I: "Yeah Mick, new role! Third man so to say at Mercedes - how us it for you at such a weekend, especially working together with the drivers?"

Mick: "I try to watch as many videos as possible to see that if I notice something I can immediately share it, but my job above all is inside the simulator, to try the (different) setups. Mick: "Yeah, they definitely still have some things to work on, but I'm sure that we'll work on that for quite some hours now and try to squeeze out the best that we can."

I: "You certainly will! We can take a look at a lap with Lewis Hamilton. This right here now is a lap with weights, so a long run lap. What is there to say about this lap, especially with weights on board?"

Mick: "Lock ups, so standing tyres are always a big topic here. Of course you want to have as few as possible of those since the tyre degradation will increase if you have too many lock ups. First corner, you have to see to prepare this second corner well so that we can get onto the first straight well. Turn 4 (there is) pressure on the left front wing for a long time, of course that will immediately get onto the back tyre later on and of course track limits here where you have to stay in. That will of course be a(n important) point."

I: "Right here? *shows it on screen*"

Mick: "Exactly."

I: "You cannot drive over the white line"

Mick: "(It's) where race control and the stewards will have an eye on. Then we'll have (turn) 6 and 7, two very fast corners (which are) definitely very strenuous for the tyres, so we gotta see that we have a bit of tyre management here to keep the stint as fast as possible."

I: "Now it's going down into the depression (I don't know if that was the right translatio for the term). I think that one is tough as well, the 7? Or 8?"

Mick: "That's turn 8! Yeah, (in) turn 8 traction control for the foot is very important - since we don't have traction control - but here in turn 9 and 10 again where the tyre oftentimes locks up, so quite important to be gentle with the brake there. Sadly especially with DRS an eventual possibility to overtake of 15%, roughly. Overtakes have happened there. Then turn 11, quite fast, but the fastest corner is following right up, turn 12, very tough in the left side in particular."

I: "Especially the under body touches the floor quite often, right?"

Mick: "Yes, exactly. Probably a bit less than last year, but definitely an important point here."

I: "And now the kerbs here, I stutters quite a bit."

Mick: "Yeah, but one of my favourite corners to be honest!"

I: "Really? Why?"

Mick: "Yeah, because it's just so tough and because you get there right from turn 12, from this long corner and everything has to be just right to get through. The last corner, of course, really important as well to get the exit (right) there, since there is a lot of lap time in it. Yeah, so a really really nice track."

I: "I'd sign that! So let's see what's actually in it for Mercedes. Thanks Mick! And we'll talk some more this year anyway! Thanks!"

I used to be like you and panic every time I heard someone’s name in connection with the Alpine seat and not Daniel’s, but I’ve realised they’re nothing but rumours. Like even this morning or yesterday there was a rumour on twitter that Seb was going to test for Alpine and the account or article that mentioned it later on retracted that after the news that Seb would be racing in the race of champions came out. Apparently even Mick’s manager has confirmed that he was not testing for Alpine. I think Jack is also not in contention for the seat because Rossi has said they want an experienced driver and I think he was also quoted as saying that they prefer Jack debut with a team with less pressure (x). As for Hulkenberg, I haven’t heard anything else except random rumours. He’s been slated as the favourite at Haas and Alpine and god knows which is which. So realistically, Daniel’s only serious competition for the seat is Pierre but him going to alpine is dependent on herta getting the exemption so this is not as much a done deal as people are portraying.

Also the quotes about Daniel saying he’s ok about not being on the grid next year is nothing new. He’s been saying that since the beginning (and I think him saying that is just to downplay stuff just in case) and it’s just people recycling these for clicks in non-race week.

I might be setting myself up for disappointment here but I am feeling hopeful after monza because I feel like most people have generally recognised that he did good so hopefully this plays in his favour 😌

Yeah I agree there’s so many rumours it’s hard to know what’s true and what’s not. I need to just sit back and try and be patient and wait for official news from Daniel and not jump to conclusions. All these articles coming out acting like it’s brand new news annoy me so much because as u said he’s been saying this since the beginning, also if he had absolutely NO options then I’m sure he would have said something by now. My nerves are getting to me. 😊 I just hope we get some answers either before or at Singapore.

I had situations like these before where it was a little difficult at the beginning of the season, but where I ultimately won the championship. This ask might be a little bit confusing so I hope you don't mind but I wanna share my thoughts on the current situation. Right now I feel very frustrated with the whole Mick and Haas (aka Guenther Steiner) drama, but the hate Mick recieves is getting out of hand. I've heard that Sky Germany plays a huge part in it, they are very biased towards Mick while they like to hate on other drivers like Kevin, also I've heard that they don't really care about Seb and appearantly Ralf Schumacher likes to make negative comments about everyone except Mick. I don't know if it's true but since Ralf seems to be a dickhead I can imagine it. Now they criticized that there is so much pressure on Mick and that it's Haas' fault, but then they make a full drama out of guenther steiners words (I've read the translation and it doesn't sound as bad as germans made it sound like.. however still not a fan of steiner). So aren't they the ones that put even more pressure on Mick with their pre race shows? I've also heard that he gets a lot of hate from german fans, but tbh I've only seen german fans so far that like to shit on Kevin to defend Mick. Mick himself on the other hand seems to be very affected (understandable) by all this drama, you can see his laugh is mostly fake and he's being sarcastic and annoyed, also he never really answers questions he avoids them and gives basic answers to be political correct. Also in post race he appearantly blamed it on haas that kevin has a better pace? (i only read translation so I can never say if this is really the case so that's why I ask you hahha) I find it so weird because we talk about a 23 year old and his second year in f1, his first year with an actual working car, now people are saying he wont get a seat in the next season. Are people always so cruel to new drivers, or is it because of his name? I know he made mistakes, he crashed, he didn't get into the point but he gets so much hate, I am confused if this is really normal (I am watching only since last year...) what is your opinion on all of this? Do you really think he won't get a seat next year? Sorry if this was too long to read...

Hey there! 👋 First of all thank you for your ask, I always love to talk to others or engage 😊

I can understand a lot of what you said. To be clear, I have only started watching last season as well and I am not a huge expert, I can only tell you my pov poverty everything I see/read/hear. I might have been influenced slightly by watching the races in German, but Mick was an instant favourite of mine and is now my absolute favourite driver 😊 (This is why I'm doing all of this in the first place, with this blog with all the translations, to support him and spread content among fans)

The German media/TV hosts are definitely biased towards Mick and Seb/ anyone with German connections in general. They want the audience to be able to connect with drivers/Germans by their shared nationality and language, which is why they so so many interviews with Mick and Seb in the first place. I started watching all the interviews more extensively / attentively during theast past of last season and I think they always kind of had a bigger interest in Mick, but also kept a respectful distance. My brother in law once mentioned that the name Schumacher still has a huge meaning and influence in the paddock, which is also part of the reason why Mick hardly ever/never gets personal questions, especially about his dad. I think last season especially he had this 'protection' still being a rookie and basically driving a tractor, everyone was so nice to him and very hopeful. Seb on the other hand lost that years ago. They are harsher on him, ask him more dirfficult/triggering and sometimes brutally honest questions. I've noticed a change in their attitude and also questions towards Mick during the last few races. I have the feeling that now that Haas is slightly more competitive they suddenly expect so much of Mick and that might in part be due to his name. I personally don't like Ralf that much, but he does not always go down on Mick but actually defends him in equal parts. What I don't like is the fact that when the Sky Germany team asks questions that are unfair, too personal or push the drivers' (or Günther's) buttons purposely they always act so nice and smiley and laugh while asking the questions as if its perfectly normal. I was actually a bit shocked about the interview with Günther, I think he is being treated unfairly and he told them straight so their faces that they make a lot of the stuff up and put wrong words into his mouth.

I agree with you that the ones (the media) always suggesting that there might be bad blood or a lot of pressure are actually the ones creating the pressure. I hope that in the future they try to back off of Mick, he is doing what he loves, he naturally always gives his best as every driver does and doesn't need all those bad comments as a 23-year-old. Of course, it comes with the profession but people could still be nice.

Mick also didn't blame Haas that Kevin had better pace, he just said that he didn't know, since he hasn't seen any of the data yet and could therefore not answer that question. I also don't engage that much online (especially where there are no good vibes and I don't have twitter), so I don't know if Kevin gets a lot of hate from German fans, I sincerely hope not 🥺 but the German commentators rarely mention him. I do believe and sincerely hope Mick gets a seat next year! There are a lot of factors that come into play as he is still a driver for the ferrari academy and they can be part of the decision making processes who gets a seat at Ferrari, Haas and Alfa Romeo.
