Top 10 12 Daniel and the media moments of 2024

1. When Edd Straw and The Race were irrationally mad at the renaming of the team’s name to Visa CashApp RB such that Edd Straw called it the worst thing to happen in F1. Unfortunately for Edd Straw, I am now in agreement with him.

2. When Daniel was catching the plane for his home Grand Prix and a Perth journalist asked Daniel if he should be worried for his future. There were already rumours that he was to be replaced at the following race in Japan after finishing right next to his teammate in the first two races of the season.

3. When Mat Coch revealed on the Pit Talk podcast at the beginning of the season that there were journalists in the media room who very personally wanted Daniel out of the sport.

4. When Crofty point-blanked told Laurent Mekies that they probably would rather a lighter driver in the car.

5. When Jacques Villeneuve continued his one-sided vendetta against Daniel at the Canadian GP because he was especially triggered by Daniel’s special helmet celebrating the 10 years of his first win

6. And all of the motorsport media went on to make cute graphics of his comments because why not 🥰

7. When the media pushed him to the point of a menty b in Singapore

8. When he was specifically asked why he was still smiling after his qualifying didn’t go well

9. When he joked about being found face down in the water and no one went ‘damn dude let’s take a step back’

10. When Daniel had said menty b and cried in front of Lawrence B and then Sky sports proceeded to show him a montage of his career (that he couldn’t even hear) after one of the most gruelling race of the season.

11. When Daniel was pictured wearing a hat in a photo posted by a friend and this somehow led to a 500 words article.

12. When an FIA accredited journalist decided to quote tweet a fan’s video of Daniel smiling to plug his own article and to somehow intimate he is 100% right about what he believes Daniel’s mental state is.

You’ve worn the crown for a long time now and have led the way and given opportunity to so many of us, and we know it ain’t been easy. Looking back through my camera roll with a smile almost as big as yours. From life changing weeks in Vegas, to riding bikes in Amsterdam then you predicting to me in the lobby of your hotel that you were going to win Monza, then doing it! It’s been a freakin ride man. Thank you. Thank you for being you, for giving so much, for being so resilient under pressure and facing challenges with such Grace (and Joe ;-)), for all the last second paddock passes, for being a great sport in all the weird scenarios we’ve asked you to do over the years, entertaining all my positivity bullshit after tough races and most of all for making the whole damned world drink from their shoes and smile more. We all need to take a page out of the DR book. Congratulations on a phenomenal F1 career, and now an ENTIRE UNIVERSE of possibility. You now literally get to do ANYTHING in the world you want, including go back racing should you so desire 😀. You sure you don’t want to do some endurance racing?? lol

The most enraging thing is that the whole thing has been so horribly managed that it has successfully diverted everyone’s attention from asking for what reason he was let go. Is it based on some concrete performance metric that he failed? Is it based on the fact that he failed to score points when his teammate has also not scored any points since the summer break? Is it based on his qualifying gap to his teammate because at least it’s not 8 tenths off?

Maybe this was always the plan because it allows them to not have to answer these questions

What did Daniel do to get involved besides point out the obvious, which is that Max would not have been enthused by it? Lando and Max have jabbed eachother before, they'll both be fine I promise

+Also Lando has been threatening to do this for years now lol he just got to live out his fantasy of making fun of a celebration in Zandvoort, I was here in 2019 when he made fun of Sebastian's "grazie ragazzi" and Bono's "get in there" (and a more disrespectful jab by one of them about lewis calling a race hard suggesting he doesnt actually win difficult races) on the same iRacing stream with Max incidentally. AND he started snickering with his friends, he just seems to think other people's celebrations are funny and it's certainly a choice but it's not anything new bb
