The Lion and the Angel

Back in 1999 (when I was the ripe old age of 14) I collaborated with my best friend, Evi, on several novel length Aladdin fanfics centered around Aladdin and Jasmine’s firstborn, Ali, and his eventual love interest, Azul. We plotted them together, Evi wrote them, and I illustrated them. It was the first time I ever illustrated a story, so it was pretty monumental as far as my young artistic development went. Our joint pen name was Nevi Publishing, which I recently created an Ao3 account for (NeviPublishing) as a new home for all of our old fics because it’s been a minute.

Five years ago I redesigned Ali and Azul for my updated art style at the time and made this as a gift to Evi for our 15th anniversary. She now has the original with her in Mexico, so when the PSD file corrupted the layer data I was unfortunately unable to re-scan it to use my updated watermark. :\

So… yeah. This is Ali and Azul. In one of our major stories, Azrak’s Legacy, Ali was given the title “The Lion of the Desert” in the same vein as Aladdin’s “Diamond in the Rough”. His most common term of endearment for Azul is his “blue-eyed angel”.

Ah, nostalgia.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, my best friend Evi and I created Aladdin fanfics together that were centered around their firstborn, Ali, and his love interest, Azul. We went by the name Nevi Publishing, which was a combination of our screen names back in 1999.

This fall it will be 20 years since we released our Quest trilogy: Quest for Freedom, Quest 2: The Voice of Fate, and Quest 3: Azrak’s Legacy. To commemorate, I thought it would be nice to upload all of our old work to Ao3 so it could be easily accessed again by anyone who might still be interested in reading it.

There’s nothing here yet except for the account itself because Evi needs to dig to find the original story files, but if any of you are interested in novel length fics loosely based on Mexican mythology written by a published author (Evi is a fascinating woman who is a professor, historian, archaeologist, and works with the Mexican government in preserving the country’s historical sites), please consider subscribing to our Ao3 account to be notified when we are able to start uploading all of our old stories again.
