paracosm drabble, magpie sunflare & precipice, 308 words, mostly dialogue lol
"Wait. Oh no. Is that Magpie? Is he back already? Oh no. Precipice. Precipice, you have to hide me." "Who are we hiding from?" Magpie asked from behind him.
Sunflare froze. He looked to Precipice desperately, but she just shrugged at him. Traitor. Sunflare squeezed his eyes shut and slowly turned around. "Hi, Magpie. I've been informed you might bludgeon me with a pipe." "...Why would I do that." Magpie asked flatly, mask giving no indication to his current emotional state. "Ronan said you were mad." "He exaggerates," Magpie waved his hand dismissively, then tilted his head, considering Sunflare with his disturbingly perceptive gaze. "Are you hurt? Don't answer that. Precipice, hand me his medical report." "You think I have that on hand?" Precipice asked, which slightly redeems her. Sort of. Maybe. No, actually. He takes it back. He's still mad, he decides. "You knew I was coming." Sunflares muttered, "Traitor," goes unacknowledged. "Ugh. I did. I hate how you have all of us conditioned to have exactly what you need on hand," Precipice said, disgusted. "I did nothing," Magpie objected, offense leaking into his voice. She rolled her eyes and handed him Sunflare's medical report. This was a mutiny of the highest degree. He'd have to think of some dastardly plot to avenge himself. This cannot go unpunished. Magpie flipped through the pages of the report, skimming for a few moments before moving on. Eventually he looked up and pinned Sunflare into place with a glare he could feel behind the goggles. "Sit down. You have a fractured ankle," he commanded. Then, addressing Precipice, he asked, "Why is he standing up? Who allowed this? Where is Ronan."

"Enid and Wednesday's Day Apart"
Part 1 - Prologue
Written by: "Konge" and "Fun But Shy Girl"
Wednesday and Enid are taking a stroll one morning before classes start outside the grounds of Nevermore. As they come around a corner of big hedges, they see three male students with spray cans making graffiti on some stone walls. The students look back at forth, looking surprised, and then turn around and run towards both Enid and Wednesday. Two of the male students push past Enid, and Enid does nothing to stop them, but as the last male student is running, Wednesday suddenly grabs hold of his hand, twisting it and gets him down on his knees so she has his arm in a firm grip and he yells in pain.
"Ow... stop, please...!" The male student says.
"You will get reported, and you will clean this graffiti up after class, understood?" Wednesday says looking at the two other male students while she holds their friend in a tight hold, and they all nod.
"Good... now go to class." Wednesday says and lets go of the male student who looks at Wednesday with a disapproving look. Wednesday looks at him with a stern look, and he gasps and runs along with the other students around the corner. Once they are gone, Wednesday turns to stare at Enid.
"Enid?" Wednesday says.
"Yes Wens?" Enid says.
"Why did you do nothing to stop those vandals? You need to be stronger when dealing with your enemies." Wednesday says looking at Enid with her typical deadpan face. Enid however gives Wednesday a disapproving look at she stares back at her.
"Wednesday, these students are not our enemies. Sure, they need to experience consequences to their actions. But when they do small infractions, we need to respond to them with more love and understanding, probably because they don't have a lot of that in their lives at home."
Wednesday scoffs and shakes her head a little. Enid crosses her arms and looks at Wednesday with disapproving eyes. This causes Wednesday to respond to Enid.
"Enid, when one encounters injustice, one must attack against it like a warrior. You're supposed to be a werewolf warrior deep down. I've seen you attack your enemies like one many times in the past. When did you become so soft?"
"And when did you go back to having no feelings?" - Enid angerly says.
The two women stare at each other frustrated for a moment... and then turn their backs to one another as they head to their respective classes to teach.
The next morning after breakfast, Enid is holding a big basket in her and Wednesday's room on campus. A smiling Enid approaches Wednesday as she says, "Wens, it's a beautiful Saturday morning outside today! Do you want to come with me into the woods to help find some cool flowers and plant life? I was thinking of displaying some new flowers on my side of the room."
"No. I have a great deal of papers to grade." Wednesday says looking at Enid, and then sits down on a chair next to her desk, with four big piles of papers.
"Wow... that is a lot of assignments..." Enid says as she looks at Wednesday's big stack of work. Enid then kisses Wednesday on the cheek as she says some final words to her before leaving.
"I'm sorry we argued yesterday. Also... I don't think you have no feelings. You just have difficulty with empathy sometimes... but that doesn't mean I still don't love you. See ya tonight Wednesday."
Enid then walks out of the room and soon heads outside towards the woods. However as Wednesday begins to work on the papers she has to grade, she begins to look annoyed. Then Wednesday stands up, walks out of the room, and heads outside towards the nearby town.
Part 2 - Enid's Day
Written by: "Konge"
Enid steps into the woods, heading towards a clearing as she carries a bag with her.
"What a beautiful day... the sun is out, the birds are chirping... it's perfect..." Enid thought to herself, skipping along into the woods, humming a happy melody.
After going further and further in the woods, the tree branches thicken, making it darker. Enid finds some strange looking flowers on the ground, and she carefully digs them up with her hands, and puts them in small containers with a little dirt and water.
"Hmm... so pretty... huh?" Enid says and hears what sounds like a high pitched scream not far from where she is.
"Is someone in trouble?" Enid thinks to herself, and leaves the big basket on the ground and runs over in the direction of the sound she heard.
Enid runs through some bushes, and over a little hill and then she stops, her eyes widening. A little boy is laying on the ground, tears running down his eyes and five big scary creatures that are snarling at him, looking like a cross between gargoyles and panthers, all of them black as coal. The boy catches a glimpse of Enid, looking over at her.
"H-help!" the boy says.
"Hey, leave that boy alone!" Enid says in a serious tone and the creatures all turn their heads and looks at her.
"Stay out of this, human girl... we are going to eat this little brat for waking us from our slumber!" The creatures say, their eyes glowing red.
"I am no mere human girl!" Enid says and wolfs out, her clothes tearing off her body as the creatures look surprised; their eyes widening and then they change their expressions.
"Oh... a werewolf... we will enjoy killing you too... and plant your head on display in our lair..." The creatures says and Enid snarls and runs in front of the little boy as she stands between him and the five creatures.
"Don't worry... I will protect you..." Enid says and five creatures circle around her, sizing her up, looking at her with their sharp teeth bare, growling and their eyes glowing red.
Suddenly one of the creatures attack from behind, lashing out at the boy, but Enid is quick, and parries the blow with her own front paw and as her back is turned, another creature lunges at her, but she turns around lightning fast, and grabs the creature by the throat with her jaws and swings it around, tumbling into two others, so they stumble and fall to the ground.
One of the creatures then lunge at her and Enid evades and it smacks into the others in a pile.
"How hard can this be? Attack all at once!" one of the creatures say in a angry voice, and Enid shoves the boy away, and is tackled by all five of the creatures at once, all laying on top of her. Enid resists, and uses every ounce of power she has shaking them off of her.
"I can't keep up like this... they are too many... it's too risky... I got to run, and take the boy with me..." Enid thinks to herself, and runs past the creatures, and stops, looking at the boy.
"Jump on... we're getting out of here..." Enid says and the little boy with brown hair, and brown eyes nods, and jumps on to Enid's back, holding on to her long blonde fur, and she runs off as fast as she can.
"After her!" one of the creatures yells, and all five of them runs after the two, very fast.
Enid runs deeper into the forest, with the little boy on her back, and after a while, she can feel her feet getting heavier, her muscles starting to ache, but she can't stop as the creatures are not that far behind her.
"Listen sweetie... I gotta stop... we have to hide... we have to be very quiet... can you do that for me...?" Enid says.
"Y-yeah... okay." The little boy says and then Enid stops in a clearing, and she hides the boy in some bushes, and looks at him.
"Stay quiet, okay?" Enid says and the boy nods.
Enid hides in another bush not far from him, and the creatures emerge, and then stop and look around.
"Where did they go? Fan out!" One of the creatures says, and they split up, going in different directions.
As one of the creatures come near Enid. She sneaks behind it silently, and in a quick movement she hits the creature from behind with her front paw, smacking into a big rock, knocking it out.
"Good night". Enid thinks to herself.
Suddenly the little boy sneezes and one of the nearby creatures snarl, turns its head and quietly walks over to the bush. The creature sticks it's head inside the bush, and sees the boy looking terrified into its glowing red eyes and it growls, showing its sharp teeth and the boy gasps and covers his eyes.
Suddenly the creature head plops down, as Enid from one of the nearby trees jumped on it, using her whole body weight to stomp on the creature, knocking it unconscious on the spot and the boy smiles big as he sees her. But doing this, Enid is exposed, and the remaining three creatures spot her immediately.
"There! Get her!" The creatures say.
But in swift move, Enid uses her snout to flip the boy up in the air, and on her back.
"Hold on, we have to move again!" Enid says and the boy grabs hold of her fur tightly as she runs off with her pursuers right behind them. As Enid keeps running as fast as she can, the creatures keep up, right behind her and are snarling and growling loudly.
"Oh no... I can't shake them off... what if this is it? What if I don't make it? No, I can't think like that... Wednesday, Harmony, Ana... I won't leave them, not like this." Enid thinks to herself, and then suddenly Enid's paw get stuck on a tree branch and the little boy flies into some bushes and Enid hits the ground hard with a big thump.
"Ah... easy pickings..." two of the creatures say as they jump on top of Enid, biting and hitting her and she yells.
Suddenly a big rock hits the head of one of the creatures, and stunned they then stop and both look up.
"Leave her alone!" the boy says with an angry look, and has another rock in his hand.
Enid uses this opportunity to shake the two big creatures off of her, and she knocks them both unconscious on the spot in a swift move.
"Thanks kid." Enid says and he smiles and runs over to Enid holding out his arms, signaling he wants a hug.
Enid smiles and then, out of nowhere, she is tackled and hits a tree, whimpering in pain.
"Forgot about me?" the last standing night creature says, looking furious, it's eyes glowing bright red.
"Y-you're not that memorable..." Enid says with a sarcastic smile, and it seems to get the creature very angry as it roars loudly and lunges at her. Enid barely avoids getting hit, and the claws from the night creature almost snap the tree in half, and Enid gulps.
"That was too close..." Enid thinks to herself.
The creature looks at Enid, and then at the little boy.
"You're tired, hurt, and not able to protect this little snack anymore..." The creature says and lunges at the little boy, and he takes his hands up covering his face screaming.
"Noo!" Enid says and jumps in front of the creature, just before it reaches him, and the creature now has a firm grip around Enid's throat.
"Got you." The creature says mumbling and slowly closes it's jaws, and Enid can feel's it sharp teeth boring into her skin.
"Let her go... monster!" the little boy yells and tries hitting the creature, but it backs up, still holding on to Enid's throat in a tight vice grip.
"Stop that, or I will snap her neck." The creature says.
"N-no... don't..." the boy says looking scared and sad.
"R-run..." Enid says looking at the little boy.
"W-what?" the little boy says looking confused.
"Run... and don't look back... it will be okay..." Enid says and the little boy turns around and begins to run, tears running down his eyes.
"W-wait... you little brat!" the creature says and lets go of Enid, and feeling she can breathe again, she get a newfound strength and she grabs hold of the night creatures throat in a firm grip with her jaws.
"Let's see how you like it... you jerk!" Enid says mumbling and she tightens her grip around the creature's neck. Then she slams the creature down on the ground hard, knocking it out instantly with a big thud.
"Serves you right!" Enid says and runs off, catching up to the little boy.
"Stop... it's okay... you're safe now." Enid says. Realizing he's safe now the little boy hugs Enid, tears running down his face.
"T-thank you... good doggy." The little boy says and Enid giggles feeling relieved the boy is smiling and seeming okay.
"That's right. Now sweetie, where do you live?" Enid says and the little boy makes a thinking face and then he points in a direction with his finger.
"Over there, somewhere..." the boy says looking a little uncertain.
Enid carries the little boy out on her back, with him holding on to her fur and as soon as they leave the woods, they see a big red house and the boy smiles.
"I live there." The little boy says.
Enid then lets the boy down as she grabs a backpack she had been carrying with her the entire time. She gets behind a tree and gets some new clothes on as she transforms back into human form. As she emerges from behind the tree, the little boy gasps and looks at Enid with great admiration in his eyes.
"Good doggy? Pretty girl..." the little boy says and Enid giggles and can't help but smile big.
"T-thanks... run along now... go home... what's your name? I'm Enid, by the way." Enid says and the little boy looks like he is processing it.
"Enid? My name is Victor." Victor says with a big smile.
A man and a woman comes out from the nearby house, looking worried as they spots Enid and Victor.
"Victor? Where have you been?" The woman says running towards Enid and Victor.
"Mommy!" Victor says and the woman hugs him tightly.
"Hi... I'm Enid... I found Victor roaming around alone in the forest... I just wanted to make sure he got home safe." Enid says and the woman smiles, getting teary-eyed.
"Thank you so much... I'm Geraldine...and this is my husband Miles." Geraldine says and Miles approaches Enid and takes Enid's hand, shaking it.
"Thank you Enid... Victor means the world to us... thank you for bringing him home safe." Miles says with a big smile looking so relieved.
"You are so welcome... bye, Victor... take care." Enid says and waves at Victor.
"Bye good doggy... I mean, Enid..." Victor says and Enid smiles big.
"Take care." Enid says as she waves and then walks off, beginning her long journey back to Nevermore Academy.
Part 3 - Wednesday's Day
Written by: "Fun But Shy Girl"
Wednesday was walking down a sidewalk that was perpendicular to a raging river. Wednesday then began to walk up a hill towards a bridge that was built over the raging river. However as Wednesday began to cross the bridge, she saw a teenage girl sitting on the railing of the bridge, tears in her eyes as she was looking down at the raging water far beneath her. Wednesday then approached the teenage girl, and with an emotionless deadpan face Wednesday said, "Do you need assistance at being pushed?" The teenage girl yelped in surprise for a quick moment, but then grabbed the bridge railing tight as she said, "Don't mess with me whoever you are! I'm going to jump, and there's nothing anyone can do to stop me."
Wednesday meanwhile slowly and casually approached the teenage girl as she said, "I wouldn't dare take anyone's freedom to end their life. Can I assume though that you already wrote your last will and testament, and left a note of your impending departure to your next of kin?" The teenage girl looked confused as she said, "I... no, I didn't." Then as Wednesday casually stood several feet from the teenage girl, she said, "Then you may as well identify yourself and your reason for ending your existence, in order for me to give a proper and thorough report to the authorities when they discover your remains. You wouldn't want your last act on this planet to be making the work of our local law enforcement and coroner more difficult, would you?"
The teenage girl took a long breath, looked down, sighed, and then said, "My name is Julia Kaiser... and I'm jumping from this bridge because the world hates me. I failed all my classes my first year of college, and got fired from my only job. Also... the girl who I thought was my best friend... I... I came out to her, saying I loved her... and then she suddenly went all homophob and said she never wanted to see me again. Then when my mom saw me crying, I tried to explain what happened by coming out to her... and then my mom said she never wanted to see me again. So basically I'm useless, no one loves me, and now I'm going to jump... and don't stop me, telling me the world is gonna get better. I see the news. The world is just turning into a big freaking mess now, and I don't want any part of it!"
Wednesday then took one more slow step towards the teenage girl Julia as she said, "And I don't blame you. We do indeed live in a world where crime and corruption are becoming more abundant. The rich keep getting richer while the poor keep getting poorer, and yet no one can see the inevitable point where politicians will eventually have to step aside and let the elites rule the entire planet due to the ultra wealthy owning nearly all the property and resources in the world. In addition, we are to inevitably reach a point where some form of slavery will be put back into place, as the result of all forms of currency being controlled by the upper class will likely result in us having to work non-negotiable wages for the wealthy and elite; with all basic human rights being discarded due to those in power seeking to take supreme dominance over all life."
Julia had a confused look on her face as she said, "Wow. You are so not talking to me the way I thought someone would if they encountered me right before I was going to jump." As Wednesday leaned on the rail next to Julia, she said, "Accepting the truth is the only way to face what reality truly is. Now then, if you excuse me, I have to go to my favorite restaurant in town for my ideal choice of sandwich. Can I assume you already had your ideal last meal before you came here this morning?" Julia continued to look confused as she said, "Well... no. I just... woke up and came here." Then Wednesday suddenly took some money out of her pocket as she said, "Well, if you are about to end your existence, you may as well enjoy eating whatever your preferred choices of consumption are in any quantity of your choosing. You do realize calories don't go with you to the afterlife, correct?"
Wednesday and Julia were sitting across from each other at a booth in a restaurant. As Wednesday was eating a small sandwich, Julia was chowing down on a burger, fries, and milkshake. In between bites, Julia said, "Oh my gosh. I haven't been here since I was kid. This food is amazing." As Wednesday stopped eating her small sandwich, she said, "Well, everyone deserves a satisfying last meal. Now then, can I assume that once you've finished your meal, you will have achieved all obtainable goals you wished to achieve for your life before ending it?" Julia looked down for a moment as she said, "Well... I'm never gonna have my dream of marrying my former best friend and having a family with her... however... I did always want to see Hamilton before I died. But tickets to that show are crazy expensive and hard to get." Then Wednesday raised one eyebrow as she said, "I believe I can take care of that."
A young bearded man in colonial clothes stood on a stage surrounded by other men while singing, "I am not throwing away my shot. I am not throwing away my shot. Yo, I'm just like my country. I'm young, scrappy, and hungry, and I'm not throwing away my shot." Meanwhile as the song continued, Julia was sitting by herself in a balcony seat with a big smile on her face. Then from behind Julia, Wednesday stepped out as she softly said, "I assume you're enjoying the show?" Julia had an amazed look on her face as she said, "Yes! This is amazing Wednesday. How did you get these premium balcony seats?" Wednesday then raised one eyebrow as she said, "There was a last minute vacancy that opened up. Enjoy the show." Then Wednesday stepped out of the building where two well dressed people were tied up with ropes and gagged in an alley. As the two individuals tried to get free, Wednesday rolled her eyes and said, "Stop trying to break free. You won't be harmed. Also, your ten factories you both own... start paying your workers something better than minimum wage."
As the sun was slowly beginning to set over a large mountain range, Wednesday and Julia were sitting on a set of tree branches belonging to a very tall tree. Julia's eyes widened as she said, "Wow. This sunset is so beautiful. Thank you for taking me up here Wednesday." Wednesday nodded her head, and said, "It was no problem. I often come here myself anyway when I need to seek refuge from the stressful factors of everyday living." The two women sat silently for a moment as they watched the sun set. Then tears began to appear in Julia's eyes. Wednesday had a slight look of confusion on her face as she said, "Why are you crying?"
As Julia wiped away her tears, she said, "It's just... I was ready to give it all up this morning... but if I did... I wouldn't have been able to experience all this. However... the world that gave me all this beauty is still the same world that gives me so much pain. How am I supposed to deal with at all?" Wednesday then starred blankly at the sunset, and kept a simple expression on her face as she said, "Julia, the world is indeed a chaotic mess full of contradictions. It is full of good and evil. I cannot guarantee to which degree you will encounter which of those two elements throughout the rest of your life. However... the future is indeed an unknown. You may encounter unbearable hardships with whatever time you have left... or you may encounter opportunities that will bring you joy, happiness, and a sense of purpose. Either option is possible."
Julia looked down, made a little sigh, and then looked at Wednesday as she said, "So what should I do?" Wednesday simply looked at Julia with an emotionless face as she said, "Julia... if you are certain there is zero probability of you having a fulfilling life, I will take you back to the bridge where I found you. However... if you believe there is just the smallest probability of having a life filled with joy, happiness, and a sense of purpose... I am unable and unsuitable to help you with exploring that... but I know who can."
A short time later, Wednesday and Julia walked towards the doors to a building that had a large sign on it that said: Crisis Center. As an older adult female stepped outside from the building with a smile on her face, Wednesday held out her phone as she said, "I sent a message to the head of the center on the way here. They're expecting you." Julia nodded her head as she had a look of uncertainty on her face. Wednesday stopped walking as Julia began to walk on her own towards the Crisis Center. But then Julia suddenly stopped, turned around, ran over to Wednesday, and then hugged Wednesday with tears in her eyes as she said, "Thank you Wednesday." Wednesday stood still and silent for a moment... and then reached out and hugged Julia back.
Part 4 - Epilogue
Written by: "Konge" and "Fun But Shy Girl"
Late in the evening, Enid walked into her dorm room at Nevermore Academy where Wednesday was sitting in bed reading a book.
"Honey, I'm home." Enid said with a big smile, and then quickly gave Wednesday a kiss on the cheek. Wednesday looked curious as she responded.
"Obviously you are home. Announcing it doesn't change that fact. With that being said... how was your day today?"
Enid made a coy little smile as she said, "Oh, just living the life of a typical non-violent and non-confrontational girl, like I always do. How was your day?"
Wednesday kept a deadpan look on face as she starred back at her book while saying, "Just living the life of a typical woman who has difficulty with understanding empathy, like I always do."
Enid made a little smirk as she said, "Sure you did."
Then Enid and Wednesday got into bed together, the two women silently looking into the others' eyes as they slowly began to drift to sleep together.

Part 18
Battle and Spoils
Jaune thought the battle was going well. His lack of range had him sprinting from downed creature to downed creature, helping the much shorter Bor warriors finish them off. They were about the size of a medium Nevermore, but with leathery wings, and like Nevermore they also had sharp beaks, serrated to rend their prey so they were not harmless once grounded. Most of the wall around the city was manned by riflemen and archers. The guards at the gate had let them through, easily recognizing Autumn’s green cloak.
Since his three companions had gone to the wall to relieve those poor souls, Jaune had decided to stay on the ground. He wasn’t exactly regretting his decision, but these creatures were nimble fliers and hitting their wings was much easier. As he lopped the head off of one of the creatures about to strike at an unarmored…WAS THAT A FAUNUS?!? Sadly another creature crashed beside him before he could ask the cat-like person. He turned to defend himself only to see a highly recognizable crossbow bolt had punched almost all the way through its skull. When he turned back the faunus had disappeared.
*************
The Bor knew how to celebrate a victory! Roast pork with potatoes and carrots. Fresh baked bread and pies. Jaune had eaten his fill as casks were dragged outside and tapped. Ren, unsurprisingly, declined choosing instead to sip his tea and cider mix. Autumn had taken a mug of a pale yellow brew and was drinking it while sharing news with some of the town’s leadership.
Nora, however, had taken the large metal stein that she was handed and poured it full from a large black cask. Then she lifted it to her lips and gulped it down with gusto. The entire town fell silent. Even the few musicians that had started an impromptu drum circle stopped cold and every eye was now on Nora. When the Huntress noticed the attention she slammed her stein down on the table. Some townsfolk tried to cautiously approach her but the ones who had witnessed her fighting quickly pulled them away. Nora glanced around the town square, making eye contact with as many as possible, but throwing a wink towards Ren and himself.
Nora then climbed up the small pile of casks, lifted Magnhild above her head and declared to all, “I’M THE QUEEN OF THE CASTLE!”
The people of Denning’s Rock let out a triumphant cry. Then the party really got started..
**********
Aura didn’t help with hangovers. Qrow had warned both teams about that, and Jaune was learning first hand that the man knew what he was talking about. The only blessing was that he was warm. At least everywhere the person cuddled up against his chest was touching. The naked person…cuddling his naked chest…and everything else.
“Oh, Brothers.”

First Character of the world of Nevermore: Sven the Mayor
Pre mayor, he was just a simple half orc (50% human) who just so happened to be born in a town called Dergun: where the tradiornal orcs are born as strong warriors and bring honors to their names, family and overall elders.Of course, he never was that strong nor interested in violence as he wanted to give encourage and inspire people with music. However, realizing he would never be safe to make music in the town (with his childhood friend also in it), he had to flee the town by the time he was around 10 to be safe. He traveled on his own, from the forest and across the land until he safely arrived to a small town called FaeHaven where he was able to not only craft his own talent in music, but be able to perform them and live a stable life out of town to Farm and grow. Though it didn't take long for his town to be under attack, where he and many citizens did their best to fight it with great success, but without many falling and the town in ruins. Having to pick themselves up, Sven had to step up to be the next mayor as he was willing to do anything to be safe.Eventually, with the trust of the citizen, he was able to help raise money and rebuild the town to be more stable as a town of "Nevermore": where it's a haven for those in need. He did have to overcome his past of being in a strict environment, and make up with his childhood friend that reappeared as his partner to support this new town, despite having sven help them relearn peace in the world, and protect any sorts of wrong doings and sanctuary for those in need (And raise their daughter in)
That's the sum of it, I'll be sure to make a new character explanation @ next week to motivate myself.

"On Good-Friday that event happened in Caithness that a man whose name was Daurrud went out.
He saw folk riding twelve together to a bower, and there they were all lost to his sight.
He went to that bower and looked in through a window slit that was in it, and saw that there were women inside, and they had set up a loom.
Men's heads were the weights, but men's entrails were the warp and weft, a sword was the shuttle, and the reels were arrows. They sang these songs, and he learnt them by heart:
"See! warp is stretched For warriors' fall, Lo! weft in loom
'Tis wet with blood; Now fight foreboding, 'Neath friends' swift fingers, Our grey woof waxeth With war's alarms, Our warp bloodred, Our weft corseblue.
"This woof is y-woven With entrails of men, This warp is hardweighted With heads of the slain, Spears blood-besprinkled For spindles we use, Our loom ironbound, And arrows our reels; With swords for our shuttles This war-woof we work; So weave we, weird sisters, Our warwinning woof.
"Now Warwinner walketh To weave in her turn, Now Swordswinger steppeth, Now Swiftstroke, now Storm; When they speed the shuttle How spearheads shall flash! Shields crash, and helmgnawer On harness bite hard!
"Wind we, wind swiftly Our warwinning woof Woof erst for king youthful Foredoomed as his own, Forth now we will ride, Then through the ranks rushing Be busy where friends Blows blithe give and take.
"Wind we, wind swiftly Our warwinning woof, After that let us steadfastly Stand by the brave king; Then men shall mark mournful Their shields red with gore, How Swordstroke and Spearthrust Stood stout by the prince.
"Wind we, wind swiftly Our warwinning woof. When sword-bearing rovers To banners rush on, Mind, maidens, we spare not One life in the fray! We corse-choosing sisters Have charge of the slain.
"Now new-coming nations That island shall rule, Who on outlying headlands Abode ere the fight; I say that King mighty To death now is done, Now low before spearpoint That Earl bows his head.
"Soon over all Ersemen Sharp sorrow shall fall, That woe to those warriors Shall wane nevermore; Our woof now is woven. Now battlefield waste, O'er land and o'er water War tidings shall leap.
"Now surely 'tis gruesome To gaze all around. When bloodred through heaven Drives cloudrack o'er head; Air soon shall be deep hued With dying men's blood When this our spaedom Comes speedy to pass.
"So cheerily chant we Charms for the young king, Come maidens lift loudly His warwinning lay; Let him who now listens Learn well with his ears And gladden brave swordsmen With bursts of war's song.
"Now mount we our horses, Now bare we our brands, Now haste we hard, maidens, Hence far, far, away."
Then they plucked down the woof and tore it asunder, and each kept what she had hold of.
Now Daurrud goes away from the slit, and home; but they got on their steeds and rode six to the south, and the other six to the north. A like event befell Brand Gneisti's son in the Faroe Isles."

Yang: (Watching TV with Blake) So, how'd the date go?
Ruby: (Slumps onto the couch) Awful! I can never show my face in town again!
Weiss: (Drinking tea) Oh, I'm sure it wasn't that bad.
Ruby: It was.
Yang: Was Jaune that bad?
Ruby: (Head in her hands) It wasn't Jaune.
Blake: Who was it?
Ruby: (Covers her face) It was me! I ruined the date!
Yang: Whoa! Slow down, Rubes! Just tell us what happened.
Ruby: Okay...
He picked me up at eight. My heart is racing because I'm on my first date. He looked so valiant as we walked into the restaurant. He started to talk, and I just smiled and nod~.
Yang: So far so good.
Ruby: We haven't gotten to the bad part yet.
Weiss: Well, what did he talk about?
He told me about his life, but I was lost inside his oceanic eyes. Our hands touched briefly as the light reflected off his golden hair. A strong electric charge was in the air~.
Yang: Ooh, spicy!
Ruby: (Blushing) Sh-Shut up!
Blake: How was the meal?
Ruby: Really good! I'm glad you recommended it.
Yang: What happened next?
It was ten o'clock, and the meal is done, but our conversation had just begun. He's fascinating, and I feel blessed, but I have to be honest~.
Weiss: What'd you do? Did you say something wrong?
Ruby: (Blushing) I don't know.
Blake: Why not?
Ruby: (Sheepishly) Well, that's the thing...
I don't know what we were talking about, and I hadn't for a while~!
Yang: Oh, no...
Ruby: Mhm...
I don't know what we were talking about, and I hadn't for a while~!
Yang: Oh, Ruby...
Ruby: I couldn't help it! His stupid, pretty boy face distracted me!
Blake: Really?
Ruby: (Blushing) Yes, shut up!
Weiss: So, what did you do when you realized you screwed up?
Ruby: Well, what happened next...
My eyes were open wide. He spoke with passion, but I was panicking inside~!
Weiss: What could distract you, a trained Huntress and warrior, from something as simple as dinner conversation?
See, I was daydreaming about a Nevermore named Tyrone. When he's by himself, he sings alone~.
Weiss: Of course you did.
Blake: What did Tyrone do?
Weiss: Are you seriously indulging this?
He has to get to work on time, his let's play job is on the line! His boss is always on his back. Why can't he cut Tyrone some slack~?!
Weiss: You were distracted by childhood fantasy.
Blake: I've been there.
Weiss: What do you mean?
Blake: Yang, do you remember our date last week?
Yang: Yeah?
Blake: Well...
I don't know what we were talking about, and I hadn't for a while~!
Yang: (Chuckles) That's fine, Blake, because you see...
I don't know what we were talking about, and I hadn't for a while~!
Weiss: Do you remember anything about what he was saying?
Ruby: Well, he was pretty distracting, but...
I'm pretty sure he was telling me about his new job~.
Weiss: Stop trying to make yourself look good!
I'm not absolving anything~!
Yang: What'd you do for the conversation?
Smiled and nod~!
Weiss: Of course you did.
I was thinking about ladders. If I tell him, is it odd? It was my turn to talk, but he was looking at me~!
OH GOD!
Focus!
Focus!
Yang: What distracted you that time?!
Uh, penguin in a costume~!?
Blake: Anything else?
How many Geists are hiding in this room~?
Weiss: ...Any other stupid thoughts?
Ozpin must have been so very handsome in his prime~.
Weiss: (Gets up) I'm out!
I'd make an awesome cop if I could stop committing crimes~!
Yang: Weiss, where are you going?!
I don't know what we were talking about...
Weiss: I'm totally at a loss for words for all of this...
I don't know what we were talking about...
Yang: I- Blake, what's going on?
I don't know what we were talking about, and I hadn't for a while!
Blake: (Takes Ruby's scroll) Salvaging this ship!
Ruby: Hey!
Tyrone had to work overtime! AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO CARES ABOUT THIS?!
Ruby: (Scroll buzzes) It's Jaune!
Blake: What did he say?
Yang: Let me see!
Jaune: (Text) Hey, sorry if I was boring tonight. To be honest, I felt like I talked more than you, so I must have not heard anything you said. Y'see...
I don't know what we were talking about, and I hadn't for a while!
Ruby: (Texts) Second date?

Time Does Not Heal (find a new hobby)
ao3
Ozpin might be a fiend, a monster, a mad man. He is not a bad father. ------------------------
It was repulsive, how Salem continued to pretend to be the hero.
Only the two of them were alive to remember the argument that had started it all. Ozma, the second one, the reincarnated one, had told Salem about his mission given to him by the God of Creation, of uniting humanity. About the relics that would summon the Gods back to Earth, about how they would destroy humanity if they were divided.
About how Ozma didn’t want the Gods to return at all.
The Gods had taken nothing from humanity that they would miss. What was missing? Magic? Magic had only allowed humans to make more atrocities than they did now. Humanity was divided even before the Gods left; Ozpin still remembered the war between his people and the Nome King, the Sacking of Emerald City, the Battle of the Poppy Fields. He had faced a million and one tragedies created by man and man alone and the so-called Gods had done nothing.
Salem hadn’t seen it that way. Even after all their travels together, turning the first humans against the Gods, years of isolation, she was still the girl in the tower. The girl who was raised alone, innocent to everything in the world. She had no idea what humanity was truly like, she didn’t know how foolish it was to try to bring the Gods back.
But Salem… wanted to die. Even with Ozma back, she’d spent so much time alone that it was second nature to seek death.
When Ozma had bundled up their children in an escape, she had found them. She took it as a betrayal and destroyed everything they had shared, had loved. But Salem couldn’t kill him.
No, instead she had thrown him into the Grimm pits in hope that they would rob him of immortality.
Blistering hate surged through Ozpin at the memory. She had been foolish; instead of robbing him of his life everlasting, the pit had corrupted him. He had evolved to a higher plain of being, into a beast that wanted nothing more than to torture Salem for all eterenty. And he couldn’t torture her if she wasn’t alive.
Ozma sent armies against her. First the Grimm, who he controlled ever since his corruption. Then his Maidens, the souls of his first four followers granted magic and the ability to transfer their power after death. Admittedly, their transfer was far too close to his own and too random for his Maidens to always be on his side - sometimes Salem got to them first and claimed she had made the Maidens, taking credit for his work - but they were usually easy enough to convince. After all, what mortal doesn’t want to stop a woman from destroying Remnant?
Unfortunately, Salem is a good liar. She had convinced her allies that he wanted to see humanity suffer for eternity - which wasn’t too far off the mark, actually - and that he needed to be defeated. Bold of her to assume he could be defeated, but every silver-eyed warrior on her side believed he could. The silver-eyes were firmly in Salem’s pocket; they were her most beloved and trusted allies, so Oz destroyed them.
Which was why Ozpin was on this small island named Patch in Vale. All but one silver-eyed warrior had been murdered by his subordinates, assassins and bounty-hunters that he paid handsomely for each head delivered. He had decided to kill the last one himself: Summer Rose, a persistent thorn in his side. It felt only fitting to prune such a rose himself.
Ozpin approached the home that contained his target. With him came an early-morning storm, to darken the sky and set the mood. One of his Nevermores had spied on the woman for the past few days, reporting that she lived there with her family. Evidence of a child was all over the lawn - toys thrown about, a bicycle leaning against the house, a swing set visible from around the back. He frowned. He hadn’t wanted to get a child involved. It wouldn’t stop him, but he didn’t want one involved.
Hiding himself from all eyes with his magic, Ozpin infiltrated the house, the early morning darkness covering his entry. He left the backdoor wide open. The inside, a kitchen, was as messy as the yard, with more toys, and a flash of an old memory - a playroom in a castle, little hands pulling on his robes, Daddy, Daddy! - steals his attention for a moment. He shakes his head. There was no time for old ghosts now.
The kitchen led to a living room and Ozpin stepped around a medley of toys and weapon on the floor. On the couch snored a man with dark hair; Qrow Branwen, if he remembered correctly. The twin brother of one of Summer Rose’s partners. Another person who wouldn’t leave the house alive.
The stairs creaked under his weight. No sign of movement, no sign of anyone awake. The bedroom he was looking for was at the end of the hall- He paused. Ozpin could just barely hear it, even with his Grimm-enhanced hearing. The smallest whimper of a baby about to wail.
Automatically, Ozpin entered a room that wasn’t the master bedroom, throwing up a quick silencing spell so the rest of the house couldn’t hear him. It was a nursery, with a crib by the windows - a safety hazard, Ozpin thought idly as he approached. The whimpering belonged to a little baby, no more than six months old. It was clearly the child of Summer Rose; the infant looked just like its mother, down to the same, detestable eyes.
Well, that explained why Summer Rose had stayed still long enough for Ozpin to track down her residence.
His invisibility dropping, Ozpin picked up the baby. It stared up at him with watery, silver eyes and Ozpin cradled them against his chest, hiding his face lest he scare it. His fall in the Grimm pits left him pale and scarred with black veins that reappeared with each reincarnation. He swayed to soothe the child back to sleep, humming under his breath.
Ozpin wanted to move on, but his memories wouldn’t let him.
Ozma scooped up his youngest daughter, cradling her to his chest. The toddler babbled about anything and everything, and Ozma kept nodding along as he took Dorthey back to her room. “You need to go back to sleep now, Princess.” He and her mother were gods; of course their children would be princesses.
Dorthey pouted, but didn’t argue. “Kiss?” she asked.
Ozma smiled. “Of course,” he said and kissed her forehead.
“Toto kiss too?” She offered him her stuffed dog and laughed as he kissed Toto too, her silver eyes glittering.
Silver eyes. Like his daughters’.
Salem always used their daughters’ eyes as a weapon against him, he realized as he held one of the silver-eyed warriors.
The child didn’t feel like a warrior. She was fat and squishy, like all babies should be at her age. She wasn’t a weapon against him, not yet anyway. But she would be one. He might be able to avoid her silver gaze for now, but sooner or later…
Still, he found himself reluctant to waste the child.
Their sniffling stopped and looked up at him, no trace of fear in his eyes. Distantly, he recognized the sound of someone getting up and walking down the hall, but ignored it.
He had come here to kill Summer Rose, but found himself suddenly reluctant. Not out of any sympathy for the woman, but because he would have to kill her child as well, permanently eradicating his daughter’s eyes from the planet. He held the child closer to his chest. He’d killed many silver-eyed warriors, but never a child…
Oz had raised children before; a few of his medley of souls had children before he assimilated into them, though he never raised a child once Oz fully incorporated himself into his consciousness. It had been several lives since he’d even held a child.
The baby cooed softly, reaching a little hand up to touch Ozpin’s face. They looked like a copy of Summer Rose, with red highlights in their black hair. They were dressed in a red onesie too; a ruby-red rose, ripe to be plucked.
Such a sweet baby, he mused as he prodded one chubby cheek. Too sweet to be his enemy one day, too sweet to die with their family.
It was their eyes that made his decision for him. Kind eyes without a trase of fear, just trust. Like his little Dorthey.
Well, it wasn’t like he was below a little kidnapping.
Ozpin placed a hand over the baby’s head and whispered a spell in their ear. The child went limp in his arms, sinking into sleep. They were young enough not to need a memory spell, thankfully; Ozpin didn’t know if he’d be able to case one anyway with his limited magic.
He’d have to redecorate his castle, he realized as giddiness rose in him. There weren’t any rooms suitable for a nursery. It must be close to his own quarters too, so he could look after them. He could try to make a nanny-Grimm, for when he was too busy? But Grimm were instinctual creatures; even if he ordered them all not to harm the child - which he definitely would - there was a chance for error. Besides, he didn’t want to lose a valuable creature if their silver eyes activated.
Maybe he could have Watts create a robot nanny? Hazel could babysit while he got it done…
The door behind him slammed open. “Ruby!!” Ozpin stood calmly as Qrow Branwen and his sister, Raven Branwen, rushed into the room.
So, his new daughter’s name was Ruby. A pretty name. It suited her.
It took the Branwens a second to comprehend what was in front of them. He was sure it was rather shocking to them, being slaves to Salem’s whim, seeing their worst enemy not only in their house, but holding one of their children. His heart truly went out to them.
But, they were between him and the exit…
Raven’s face twisted with fury, drawing her katana. “Put her down,” she snarled.
Ozpin cocked an eyebrow. “No.” If anything, she should be grateful that he never set Ruby down. If it wasn’t for her, everyone in the house would be dead by now.
The twins didn’t seem to like that answer. They readied their weapons, with both Raven and Qrow about to-
Raven and Qrow…
Raven and Crow…
Ozpin smirked and a wave of magic erupted from his body and slammed into the Branwens. Lightning flashed through the window as the two collapsed, coughing desperately. Raven’s face was a mix of pain and hatred as her bones crunched and grinded against each other.
Qrow Branwen collapsed to his knees, holding his throat. “What- What did you do-!?” He spat out a mass of feathers.
Ozpin smiled. “I thought it funny for you two to… resemble your name-sakes a tad more.” They couldn’t stop their screams as their bodies contorted grotesquely, though Raven certainly tried to keep silent. Within minutes, the Branwen twins had been transformed into birds, a raven and a crow, he thought with sick delight.
Raven tried to dive-bomb him, screeching, but she was easily avoided. Ozpin tsked as he swatted the bird away and cuddled the sleeping Ruby closer to his chest. He ran his fingers through her fine hair. “Come now, dear. Let’s go home.”

A Semblance of Reasoning (Part 1)
Let’s take a look at Semblances, the unique power each person in RWBY (The show) has; What is a Semblance, exactly? well, as Ren said in “Lighting the Fire”
Ren: A common philosophy is that a warrior’s semblance is a part of who they are. Some say your personality and character can define your Semblance while some claim that it is the other way around. Of course, there are still many who don’t see a connection at all.
In short, a Semblance represents their user’s personality…except when they don’t. I feel that sometimes Semblances aren’t completely shaped by the character, and are equally formed around their specific needs and experiences. Let’s take a look at some characters’ Semblances, what kind of background they had, and guess how their Semblances were shaped by the first two. We’ll also look at how those powers have evolved or changed over the course of the series and why.
Given the large cast, we’ll be splitting this subject up among multiple posts.
Team RWBY Semblances
Ruby Rose: Ruby’s Semblance, at the beginning of the series, was just speed…and leaving rose petals behind her. Typically, characters with speed powers are characterized as impatient, and Ruby…isn’t as bad as most. Of course, she has this tendency in the beginning to just rush in, as shown when she tries to 1-v-1 a Nevermore. Luckily, she learns to outgrow this, but is still “rushed” into Beacon two years ahead of schedule. When Beacon falls, her first instinct is to head to Haven, while the rest of her team are split up and delayed by their own issues. So, moving ahead quicker than others is what her Petal Burst represents.
The first thing we know about Ruby’s combat background is that, prior to being trained by Qrow, she was “complete garbage”. In Volume 5, she admits that her Semblance kicked in while training. Possibly, Ruby was bottom-tier in a lot of ways, not just combat. It’s possible that track was also something she was garbage at. So, maybe just being tired of being the slowest, she gained the power to zip ahead of the other kids. Of course, after Volume 3, her Semblance shifts from just being “speed” to “flight and bursting into flower petals.” And what does she use this for? Getting around obstacles. What could have provoked such an evolution? Well, let’s think back on the events of Volume 3; She realizes that Emerald is going to use her Hallucination Semblance to make Pyrrha destroy Penny, but before she can stop their match, Mercury gets in her way. He delays her enough so that the evil plan goes off without a hitch. But now she has the power to bypass obstructions and move about with more freedom.
Weiss Schnee: Weiss’ Semblance is her Glyphs, which, prior to the reveal of the Maidens and Silver Eyes, the closest thing to magic the series had. But Volume 3 reveals that the Glyphs are a hereditary Semblance, passed on by bloodline. So, they don’t really represent her character in of itself. But, how she uses it is what reflects the growth of her character. When Weiss first appears in the main show, she’s your average Mean Girl- Looking down on our Main Girl Ruby and being quite vocal about it. For all her scorn for her father’s ways, she’s just as attached to her status as a member of the Schnee Family. “I have a legacy to uphold.” And as we later learn, her mastery of her Glyphs are average at best, and she’s notorious for losing fights. However, there is one aspect of her Glyphs that Winter has that she does not have; Summoning good versions of the monsters she’s crushed. Despite how hard she tries in the first three Volumes, she cannot do what Winter does.
But as she slowly starts to push herself away from the elitist mentality of the Atlas upper class, Weiss’ skill with Glyphs improve as well, mostly as a form of support for others. And in the latter half of Volume 3, she does get a hang of Summons. Where? When she saves Velvet, a Faunus who are normally looked down by the elites. However, when she fights Vernal in Volume 5, her reliance on her Summons nearly gets her killed. At the time, though, she was only fighting for herself (“I’m more than just a name”) and that tied into it. When she’s brought back into the fight by Jaune, it’s because he’s using his Semblance to heal her (Or, technically, amplifying her aura with his), and she fights much better with the Lancer summon. In short, Weiss’ evolution comes not just from helping, but from being helped. When she uses her Summons against Marrow, it has full autonomy; She has given her former enemy the trust to act on its own for her behalf.
Blake Belladonna: Shadow, that’s Blake’s power to create illusionary duplicates, a diversion to draw a foe’s attention. Blake herself describes this as a manifestation of her self-professed cowardice; “I was born with the ability to leave behind a shadow of myself; an empty copy that takes the hit while I run away!” However, it may also represent loneliness. Blake was once a member of the White Fang during its ‘peaceful protestor’ phase, and we even get a visual in “Black and White” of lil’ kid Blake waving a sign. Moving around with her parents, it’s possible that she didn’t have time to make friends growing up. When the WF became terrorists, she joined that as well, but given how uncomfortable she was with Adam’s increasingly fatal methods, it’s just as likely that she was ‘odd woman out’ and just as alone in the new WF as she was in the old. As such, her Semblance became the ability to make more of herself, which she uses to escape from danger.
Much like Weiss, the Semblance itself has not changed much, but how she uses it does, representing her change in character. Through Volumes 1-3, she used her Shadow solely as diversions, for escape. But in V4 “Of Runaways and Stowaways”, she uses to move closer to the Grimm she’s fighting. This is perhaps to foreshadow her eventual decision to stop running from the White Fang and start fighting against them. And in Volume 7, during Team RWBY’s fight against the Ace-Ops, Blake allows herself to be briefly captured by Vine she could trick him into catching a Shadow loaded with bombs. This further demonstrates Blake’s willingness to put herself forward to win the battles.
Yang Xiao Long: Her Semblance is Burn, which is basically a limit-break; When she takes enough hits, she’s able to use that accumulated force to increase her strength and hit back with all of it at once. Also, her hair sets on fire. But that might be a visual effect. It’s pretty easy to understand the events that caused her to develop this Semblance. With the death of her step-mother Summer, Yang was left to pick up the pieces of her broken family, effectively swallowing her pain and be the one strong enough to carry on. And as the “RWBY: World of Remnant” data book explains, she has a lot of suppressed anger from her birth mother Raven leaving, which is where the flames symbolize, I think. It reflects how a warm candle can easily become a wildfire if fed and provoked thoughtlessly.
But as her father Taiyang points out, it’s used as a temper-tantrum. Her power is, effectively, “I’ve taken all I can stand and I can’t stand no more!” If things aren’t going her way, she basically explodes in a rage that ends things. It’s a useful power, but Yang uses it so often that she becomes predictable, especially to foes that specialize in evasion, or are strong enough to take it, as proven with Neo and Adam. Once Tai instructs and dresses her down, Yang begins to control herself more and more, she starts relying on Burn to win fights with it, reflecting that self-control. So far, it hasn’t really changed, she’s just using it less, just like she’s not throwing fits so often. When she does, (use Burn though,) it’s in more tactful ways, like blocking Adam’s Moonslice in “Seeing Red” and inhibiting Elm’s root Semblance in “With Friends Like These” by destroying the floor. Brute force, yes, but with purpose beyond destruction.
And this is only up until Volume 7. Stars (And broken moons) know what will happen further down the road.

How The JRY/Ace Ops + Winter Scene In RWBY V8E7 Could've Been Done Better
From the RWBY Volume 8 Midseason Trailer: ......................................................................... Winter and the Ace Ops are, presumably, heading towards the whale with that bomb. It looks ridiculous to me considering she’s all “CHARGE!!” and they’re shuffling along with this massive thing. But the size does tell us that no, this can’t be a quick in-and-out mission like some of us hypothesized before, nor will it be an easy stealth mission (which is perhaps off the table entirely given Winter’s yell). Whether Team JRY has gotten Oscar out yet, given the Ace Ops information about the whale layout, or if they’re still inside is unknown.
. In regards to the JRY and Winter + Ace Ops scene from RWBY Volume 8 Episode 7 "War", I think it could've been done better. Like, what we got was alright, but a little more thought could've made the whole scene a whole LOT better. This is what I mean. . I think it's cool that Ren's Semblance is evolving to where he can sense emotions in general. It fits. Plus, it gives him some more versatility with his Semblance. . My real issue with the whole Ren's speech scene is that I easily thought up of an obvious way that whole scene could've been improved. Like, it's so freaking obvious, so why didn't the writers think of it? The components are right there. Anyways, here's how that whole scene could've been improved. . I kind of like Ren's whole "no one is replaceable" speech, so I think keeping the "muh feelings" aspect is fine but it can be improved by adding some rationality and strategy to it. If the writers would allow Jaune to be competent (for once instead of always relegating him to inept cringy comic relief) , he could've come up with a brilliant plan that could've turned the tide like this. He could first ask Winter to patch him to Ironwood, saying that he has a plan that could save all of them. Winter reluctantly agrees and gets Ironwood on the line. Jaune explains his brilliant plan that could turn the tide: . Jaune: "General Ironwood, I've come to make a bargain, so that we can both get what we want. We want to save Oscar who's in that Grimm Whale and retrieve the Lamp but you're not going to let us go without a good reason. Ace Ops' mission is to get into that huge Grimm Whale and deliver a bomb so that it can hopefully kill it and save Atlas. But how are they going to get through the hundreds of Grimm surrounding the Whale while also carrying the heavy Bomb? And even if they could get past all of them and make it inside the Whale, we don't know what type of Grimm or who else could be inside the Whale or if the Whale could be able to sense them inside it. They don't have any clear shot of going through those Grimm undetected while carrying the Bomb. That's where we come in. Ren here has a Semblance that allows him to mask negative emotions, allowing him and those under his Semblance to be completely invisible to Grimm, walk right past them. Thing is, he can only use it on 2 people by himself. That's where I come in. My Semblance allows me to amplify Aura and you know that I can do a whole lot from there. I have lots of Aura and you know how strong my Amps are. I've tanked a hit from a Colossus mecha head on and kept on walking. I healed Weiss from nearly dying to a flaming spear to the liver and lungs from Cinder during the Battle of Haven. Ren, Yang, and I are low on Aura but with a few minutes of intense concentration, I can regenerate my Aura and subsequently their's as well. From there, I can Amp Ren and his Semblance, allowing him to mask dozens, even over a hundred. With Ren and I, we can mask the Ace Ops and get them through the Grimm and into the Whale undetected. With Ace Ops backing us, we can fight our way through Salem's forces inside the Whale, retrieve Oscar and the Lamp of Knowledge, and plant the Bomb with some boosting on my end for good measure. In order to get what we both want, we have to work together, in order to save Atlas and Mantle. So do we have a deal?" . There is some silence on the other end as Ironwood contemplates on Jaune's deal before making a decision. . Ironwood: "Very well Mr. Arc, we have a deal. Ace Ops, coordinate with Arc, Ren, and Xiao-Long for the Payload Mission. Ren and Arc are the only real vital assets we need to pull this off but Xiao-Long should be useful as extra muscle, provided she doesn't just betray us like last time. But keep this in mind. Whether you escape from the Whale with Oscar and the Relic or not in time, this Bomb WILL go off. I will not put the lives of thousands of Atlesians at risk for the sake of 4 people. So be prepared to take responsibility for your own lives." . Jaune: "Understood." . From there, everyone gets to work, preparing for the Mission. Ren uses his Semblance "Tranquility" on himself and Jaune so that Jaune can intensely focus on meditating and utilizing his extremely fast Hazel-level Aura Regeneration Factor. The other Ace Ops don't put up a fuss, because they've been there during training with Jaune and his friends, so they know that he's being truthful and accurate in his and Ren's capabilities and how they can help make their suicidal mission an actual success. I may have been a bit overly detailed with all that Jaune said in that but I wanted to avoid CRWBY’s tendency towards annoying vagueness and not have Jaune repeat his stupidly vague "Hit them harder" thing, so I kept it a bit detailed so that both Ironwood AND the audience can know exactly what Jaune is proposing and how it's plausible enough to be effective. So in that scene, Jaune was persuading not only Ironwood but the audience as well. Ironwood and Ace Ops know that they would need the help of Ren and Jaune in order to make the Bomb Mission a success and if that means helping them with finding Oscar and the Lamp, then it's an acceptable risk/compromise that works for both sides' favor. Given that the Grimm Whale "Monstra" (that's the official name for it by the way) is several times bigger than the previously largest shown Grimm, the Leviathan, there's not a strong possibility that whatever Dust Nuke that Ironwood and the Atlas Army was able to cook up at the last minute would be powerful enough to take out the Grimm Whale. Jaune using his Semblance to drastically Amplify the Dust inside the Dust Nuke would act as a logical action to take as his Semblance can be the lynchpin to making sure the Dust Nuke would be powerful enough to destroy a colossal size Grimm like the Monstra. Plus, this serves as payoff to all the set up with the Training Scenes in Volume 7, especially the one in RWBY Volume 7 Episode 6 "A Night Off" which showed Jaune training his extremely fast Hazel-level Aura Regeneration rate. Not only that but it more logically connects JRY's goal and Winter + Ace Ops goals together, which also helps from a screentime perspective. . Anyways, after Jaune has fully regenerated his Aura, he uses his Semblance to Amplify the Aura Regeneration rates of Ren, Yang, and even Winter and the other Ace Ops so that their Auras are more than full. From there, they pick up the large heavy Whale Killing Bomb and then disembark from the Bullhead when they reached the closest they could come. From there, they get out. Jaune touches the shoulders of Marrow and Winter, Amplifying them. Marrow uses his Amplified "Stay!" to freeze the Grimm Horde attacking Atlas, with hundreds of avian Grimm dropping from the skies due to paralysis. An Amplified Winter Summons hundreds of full sized and Giant sized Beowolves, Ursi, Goliaths, Gryphons, and Nevermores, with her army of Summons tearing through the paralyzed Grimm Horde. This serves as reinforcements to the frontlines of Atlas soldiers and Mechas who were struggling against the Grimm, with several of the avian Summons entering the city to tear through the Grimm that made it through. This continues for a few minutes before Jaune, Marrow, and Winter have to stop, with Winter's Summon Army dissipating. Tearing through those Grimm would only be good so far as the Grimm Whale wouldn't stop producing more and more Grimm. By this time, the reinforcements have given the frontlines enough breathing room that they can relaunch the offensive with a second wind. . From there, Yang, Elm Ederne, and Vine Zeki (with his Aura Vines) lift and carry the large, heavy Whale Killing Dust Bomb while Jaune stands with Marrow and Ren in front, touching their shoulders and using his Semblance to Amplify the both of them, so that Marrow could Paralyze any enemies they face and Ren could mask everyone's negative emotions along with using his new Emotion Sensing ability to keep track of Grimm and even provide some protective fire with StormFlower. Jaune, Ren, and Marrow act as vanguard while Yang, Elm, and Vine act as middleguard with carrying the Bomb, and Harriet Bree and Winter Schnee cover the rear, with each using their Semblances to quickly and stealthily take down any paralyzed Grimm or enemies that they encounter, both in the front and rear. With this formation, the group ventures forward through the belly of the beast. Anyways, other stuff happens, blah blah blah, Oscar and the Lamp are retrieved and the Bomb is planted and Jaune uses his Semblance on the Bomb itself, Amplifying the Dust inside. (If he can Amplify Aura and Semblances, then it only makes sense that he can also Amplify Dust which can enhance both Aura and Semblance as well, with the function of Jaune's Amps being akin to a more potent version of Coco's Semblance "Hype") . Meanwhile, Ruby somehow arrives inside the Whale as well. Salem is pissed and is ready to dish out her 5-Maidens-worth of Magic against them but Ruby uses her Silver Eye Burst. It doesn't really hurt or kill Salem, as she's probably faced hundreds of Silver Eyed Warriors in the past who were much stronger than Ruby, but it does succeed in distracting Salem enough to prevent her from instantly annihilating them all with her Magic. Using that distraction, Jaune grabs on to Ruby and Amplifies her Semblance, with Ruby using it to grab all of their allies and very quickly flies out of the Whale at Mach speeds, before depositing everyone outside near the frontlines. We then see Salem watch the Bomb detonate at ground zero, with the Amplified Dust Bomb utterly destroying the Whale and causing a massive shockwave to spread throughout the air. And that's how they could turn the tide. . Anyways, I'm not the only one who was thinking something as obvious as this, right? . To conclude, these are the reasons why this rewritten scenario of how the JRY and Winter + Ace Ops scene in RWBY Volume 8 Episode 7 "War" would've been a logical and obvious improvement over what we've got in the show...... FIRST, the additions here make it clear that JRY, Winter, and Ace Ops are teaming up together. This not only gets around splitting the screentime between JRY and Winter + Ace Ops by having it so that they're both together instead of splitting off. SECOND, it gives a logical reason for why JRY and Winter + Ace Ops would both try to go inside the Grimm Whale and more naturally facilitates a team up rather than them going separately. Also, in my scenario, I had it where Ironwood is actually contacted (instead of being kept in the dark) and is offered a logical plan that allows JRY and Winter + Ace Ops to team up so that they can both get what they want. Even with saving Atlas and Mantle being his foremost priority, Ironwood could recognize the importance of retrieving Oscar and the Lamp of Knowledge, and the fact that Jaune's offer of an alliance is not only logical and beneficial but also is one that is being offered to him straight rather than being done behind his back, makes the offer all the more enticing. Not only that but Ironwood and Ace Ops would already know that Jaune's claims are true and accurate because they've spent weeks training together. THIRD, everything I've pretty much outlined in the scenario not only payoffs what's been set up before in Volume 7 and 8 but also serves as a natural and logical solution for the Good Guys to net out a victory and save Atlas and Mantle without requiring an Ass Pull or Deus Ex Machina. All the components are there to make it happen. FOURTH and finally, this would show JRY and Ironwood/Winter/Ace Ops putting aside their differences and working together to save Atlas and Mantle, which is a FAR contrast to Ruby "Sipping Tea While The Apocalypse Is Happening" Rose and her compatriots'' irrational irascible refusal to work together with Ironwood which only makes things worse for everyone.
. What do you all think?

8th Doctor - Season 4
4x01 Death in Blackpool - The story was great, but Lucie’s farewell was really rushed. There needed to be more build up to really show her feelings. They have been through way too much together to just be done after a like 2 minute talk. Made it seem forced.
4x1.5: An Earthly Child (I read a timeline suggesting to listen to it here, so I added it in.) This was so good, and honestly everything I needed after losing Lucie. Finally seeing the Doctor reunite with Susan was perfect.
4x02: Situation Vacant: I really liked the idea of a competition to be the Doctor’s new companion- really wish the competitors had been more interesting.
4x03: Nevermore: Interesting concept revolving around Poe’s works. Probably would have been 100% more enjoyable with Lucie. Tamsin is pretty boring so far, but maybe she just needs time. With so much poetry, I expected the Doctor to have more fun in this adventure- guess he must not be super excited about Tamsin either. Maybe once I get used to Tamsin I’ll listen to this one again and give it another chance.
4x04: THAT ENDING THOUGH. Most of the story was pretty boring, but knowing that ending, I actually went back to listen to it again and it was much better. Also, when are we getting the adventures of The Monk and Lucie Miller?
4x05-06 (Deimos and The Resurrection of Mars) The overall plot with the Ice Warriors is pretty basic, but at least we get the 8th Doctor doing an Icccce warrior impresssssion. That was gold. There are also some great philosophical questions about the greater good and how the Doctor has changed since being #7 (I think? I’m actually not sure what he was referencing when he was talking about traveling alone and getting out of hand. Hell, maybe retroactively they will have this refer to the Time Lord Victorious? More likely though, it is a reference to some EU stories with 7.) It also features the Monk and we finally get Lucie back! Honestly, the 8th Doctor sounds so much happier just to have her back. It’ll be really interesting to see how he is with other companions in the special box sets.
4x07 Relative Dimensions: Domestic family Christmas with Susan, Alex, Lucie, and the Doctor? Yes, please! I love it.
4x08 Interesting bottle episode, robot Lucies are no substitute for the real thing though. Still, really telling how he used her voice to keep himself sane. This whole season has really cemented just how much she means to him.
4x09-4x10 Holy shit. In the show, it’s usually the Cybermen who get to kill important characters, so I guess it’s about time the Daleks caught up, but wow way to do it all at once. Absolute chills at the end. I really wonder how this is all going to affect the Doctor moving forward. I know Dark Eyes is next and it’s a whole separate thing, but I really hope we get some info or connections to see where the Doctor is at emotionally after all this.
Overall, good season with a lot of interesting plots all coming together for a very epic ending. It was hard not having Lucie around for all of it- but having Susan around was great. On to the further adventures with Lucie Miller!
Then...I can either move forward to Dark Eyes...or backwards to the stuff I skipped like Mary Shelley and Charley... decisions decisions...

📌🏳️🌈💎
Ahhh, thank you so much! Defaulting to Teen Titans. So....
It’s about to get Rambly.
Media Hyperfixation ask game --> [x]
📌 how did you find your hyperfixation?
It all started with the cartoon! Saturday cartoons were kind of a thing in my family, and my dad was always big on superheroes. So naturally, if a superhero cartoon was on, we’d watch it as a family. I wasn’t especially invested in superheroes as a genre, I just liked the plots better than a lot of other kid shows.
I remember watching Nevermore in the dark room, and mostly just being Vaguely Confused, not really caring what was going on (because someone was brushing or braiding my hair, and I liked that a lot better at the time). I specifically remember seeing Pink!Raven and just kind of being like: “...okay? Weird.” I remember the watermelon Loreal Kids shampoo from that night better than I remember the episode because I legitimately just Was Not Paying Attention. I don’t even remember the first time I watched the Apprentice episodes.
But then I remember LOVING Fear Itself from the first viewing, the whole thing with Pretending Not To Be Afraid and the line “I’m afraid, but that doesn’t mean I can’t fight back” REALLY struck a chord with me, and by the time Aftershock pt. I aired, I was SUPER emotionally invested in the Titans’ well-being. I was so surprised they’d survived! Terra had to be stopped and I was FURIOUS at her for what she did to them! I couldn’t WAIT for next Saturday!
Now, I don’t remember quite WHEN I started reading the comics, definitely before Haunted aired, because I recognized Raven’s soul-self IMMEDIATELY. (It’s Kind of a Big Deal in the comics.) But whenever it happened, that same dad that loved superheroes was a comics collector, and when I started enjoying the show, he started letting me read the comics. At first it was just the trade paperbacks, started with Terror of Trigon and Judas Contract (what a way to start off, huh?), and also the trades from the ‘00s Adult Comics (Teen Titans v3, as we call it). A Kid’s Game, and Family Lost. (Family Lost made a big deal about Raven’s return, and elaborated on Raven’s backstory via Arella. Take a wild guess which one I read over and over again.) He also gave us the Beast Boys and Girls trade, but my sister was much more of a Beast Boy fan and adopted that one the same way I adopted Family Lost.
(I’d put a Read More here if I could, but Tumblr isn’t giving me that option? So let’s hope the mobile trick works.)
:readmore:
Eventually he asked me if I wanted to read the comics they first appeared in, and naturally I was like “YES!” So he pulled the box of New Teen Titans (etc.) comics out and set it near the living room, and he made the rule that I could only take one issue out at a time, and had to return it before I read the next one.
I visited that box ten times a day sometimes.
I would take the issues with Azarath out time and time again, staring at the pictures, reading and re-reading the discussions there, taking in every single little detail. The rainbow stars. The triplicate moons. The architecture. The clothing. I’ve always been especially fixated on Azarath, and Marv’s habit of casual lore-drops fed my fandom-thirsty soul so WELL.
And when I read Tales of the New Teen Titans #2, Raven’s origin story? I never wanted to put it back in the box! I was ENAMORED.
The more I learned about Raven from the comics, the more I related to her, and the more I fell in love with the Raven in the show too, appreciating her backstory and filling in the blanks of things I desperately wanted to know about her. (Which was EVERYTHING!)
Raven was the sole point of entry for how hard I fell in love with the franchise, but the older I got and the more I learned, the more I grew to love everything else about it, too.
🏳🌈 do you have any headcanons (lgbt, race, neuro, etc) that are important to you?
I headcanon Raven as both aspec and POC! I mean, canon doesn’t color her much at all; the cartoon gives her eerily pale skin and the comic artists tend to color her a deep peachy “white” skin color.
But if you look at the profiles George Perez draws, things like her nose shape and eye/brow structure look like It Could Be. Especially this silhouette from the GAMES graphic novel:
And, I mean, Marv Wolfman considered making her black from the start. So it even works on a meta level.
I don’t know what nationality she could be, because nationality comes from the parents, and, well, Trigon’s a demon, and Arella’s drawn a lot more classically-European looking. Small nose, big eyes, pale skin. Arella was also a foster child, so it’s probably canon that she simply doesn’t know her national origins?
And about asexuality? It’s lifted straight from the comics. There was literally an entire storyline that focused on her and sexuality. And she just DID NOT WANT sex. Now I might be projecting a little, because Marv made it very clear that the reason she’s so apprehensive and avoidant about it is because of her mother’s r*pe. And for the longest time, I was apprehensive and totally avoidant of sex because, for me, I was a sex-repulsed ace, and let’s just say I had a sort of social-learning trauma from several close friends. But you can be afraid of sex and be sexually attracted to someone at the same time. This was CLEARLY not the case with her. When they were getting ready, she’s clearly bracing herself, forcing herself into it, only going along because Eric forced it on her, and she’s like “If you must, just get it over with”, and that’s only BARELY paraphrased. She had no desire for it! No heat, no excitement! Absolute zero! Just straight FEAR.
Not to mention, as much as I despise that storyline, the closest thing she has canonically come to ever Getting Down with someone was that weird astral “child” thing with the Wyld weirdness, and if I remember correctly, that was a complete accident with No Body-Unifying Prerequisite.
(Clearly she’s romantically active in both the comics and cartoon, but hey, I’m also a lot more romantically engaged than sexually too. I haven’t decided yet if I headcanon her as demi, gray, or what, but I definitely get Very Strong Ace-Spectrum Vibes from her.)
As for other characters, I’m honestly Really Intensely Hyperfixated on Raven In Particular, so I’ve never given as much thought to the others, but in running teentitansheadcanons, I’ve seen submissions that Beast Boy is autistic or ADHD, and I like that interpretation! I legitimately Can Not Comprehend how his mind works, I just can’t grasp how things Operate for him at all, but from his outward behaviors, I can definitely see it.
I also heavily, heavily headcanon that all the Titans have PTSD, both from their pre-hero days and the fact that they’ve all faced near-death scenarios. Different events impacted different Titans differently, so it’s from different things for all of them, and they all have their own individual ways of coping with it, but it’s There.
I also headcanon Really Hard that they ARE each others’ support group, because Found Family means the WORLD to me, and I imagine it does to all of them too. Wait, screw “imagine”-- that’s canon as HELL.
💎 are there any fun facts or trivia that you would like to share?
Hmmm.... I have too many to easily choose just a few! So! More Rambling!
~ Raven wasn’t named as such due to her heritage or prophecies of doom; rather, Marv Wolfman just really liked the name Raven. If anything, she was named after a character, Raven Winters, Marv had written in an earlier project!
~ The Azarathean word “Arella” meaning “messenger angel” is a DIRECT derivative of Hebrew, as well as the word “Azar” (meaning “aid”) and the suffix “-ath”, as I understand it, means... something I can’t remember now, like providing or bringing or something. But it’s all very parallel to Hebrew!
~ The New Teen Titans crew nicknamed Trigon “Hot Stuff on steroids”, referencing a blood-red mischievous and child-shaped demon character from Archie Comics. He’s not very much of a threat. This never fails to amuse me.
~ Tara Strong still wants to know what happened with Terra and Trigon. (At least, she did when I saw her at Indy PopCon.)
~ Back in 2003ish, there used to be RAGING debates over whether the Robin in the cartoon was Dick Grayson or Tim Drake. Yes, even after he was shown to become Nightwing in the future. Because of how his costume looked, I think? And his personality. Even though the cartoon Titans were CLEARLY waaaay different from their comic counterparts.
~ Cyborg’s metal body parts are a molybdenum steel alloy! This was stated in the 80′s comics, but as I understand it, molybdenum is still used today in the medical field for prosthetics and skin-contact technology.
~ Starfire says one of my favorite meta lines in the comics: “I know what I look like and there’s nothing wrong with being pretty. But if that’s ALL that I am I’d be pretty boring.”

~ Wonder Girl’s origin story has been retconned almost as many times as there are DC Crisises. I can hardly speak any further on it, because I thrive on continuity and retcons just Throw Me Off.
~ Red Star’s original name Way Back When was actually Starfire!
~ Marv Wolfman took the name “Nightwing” from a Kryptonian story! Yes, Dick Grayson’s alias was named after a Superman thing. (Marv’s a huge Superman fan though, so are we really surprised?)
~ Starfire and Raven, a fierce warrior and a timid pacifist, were created to be Polar Opposites! Like, INTENTIONALLY. (With Donna Troy as the balancing act between them.)
~ When Beast Boy/Changeling transforms from a large creature into something smaller, according to the New Teen Titans letter columns because a fan asked about this, his extra mass goes to Cleveland. This was probably a joke and never explained, but maybe that’s why there’s so much green stuff in Lake Erie!

Review
This novel -- and series -- is the perfect mixture of the thriller and comedic genres. Nick is trying to survive and save the people in this apocalyptic world, and all the while he has so much sarcasm and witty humor that you can't help but laugh along. I honestly couldn't stop laughing the entire time was reading this book. This is on my suggestion list, and one of my favorites.
5 out of 5 stars.
