The Song Boy Division from MCR is very Janis Ian/Sarkisian coded. Especially if you see it from Janis' pov targeted towards Cady.

this is just my opinion but i think any good media needs obsession behind it. it needs passion, the kind of passion that's no longer "gentle scented candle" and is now "oh shit the house caught on fire". it needs a creator that's biting the floorboards and gnawing the story off their skin. creators are supposed to be wild animals. they are supposed to want to tell a story with the ferocity of eating a good stone fruit while standing over the sink. the same protective, strange instinct as being 7 and making mud potions in pink teacups: you gotta get weird with it.
good media needs unhinged, googling-at-midnight kind of energy. it needs "what kind of seams are invented on this planet" energy and "im just gonna trust the audience to roll with me about this" energy. it needs one person (at least) screaming into the void with so much drive and energy that it forces the story to be real.
sometimes people are baffled when fanfic has some stunning jaw-dropping tattoo-it-on-you lines. and i'm like - well, i don't go here, but that makes sense to me. of fucking course people who have this amount of passion are going to create something good. they moved from a place of genuine love and enjoyment.
so yeah, duh! saturday cartoons have banger lines. random street art is sometimes the most precious heart-wrenching shit you've ever seen. someone singing on tiktok ends up creating your next favorite song. youtubers are giving us 5 hours of carefully researched content. all of this is the impossible equation to latestage capitalism. like, you can't force something to be good. AI cannot make it good. no amount of focus-group testing or market research. what makes a story worth listening to is that someone cares so much about telling it - through dance, art, music, whatever it takes - that they are just a little unhinged about it.
one time my friend told me he stayed up all night researching how many ways there are to peel an orange. he wrote me a poem that made me cry on public transportation. the love came through it like pith, you know? the words all came apart in my hands. it tasted like breakfast.

Looove all your art. While rebrowsing through your tag again, I realized what yout style reminded me of! It would definitely fit the vibe of the comic The Department of Truth (Highly recommend btw)
Sick as hell. You only make banger after banger 🗣️🗣️

Thank you, here’s a drawing of Dirk mimicking the style of the comic. I see the resemblance a little with the texture, but even further so and a little more comic booky. It’s kind of hard to replicate digitally actually.
I gave it a read, it reminded me of inside job if it had better art direction and no comedy “adult humor show” element.
I really don’t read comics largely at all so thank you for introducing me to this. I used to as a kid but only stuff like I kill giants and any manga I could afford, so I’ve read a lot of trashy manga and that’s about it. A lot of my friends talk about superheroes and stuff and it totally goes wayy over my head, haha. I only really watch movies.

PLEASE tell us your Opinions
oh noooo, aagh ooogh twist my aaarm Now excuse me while i ramble on about Wicked, ahem, Okay so really my musical opinions arent even bad mostly, it's very cute and catchy and popu-UUlar, and is kind of like....a nice little fan fiction compared to. the book. the two are Very different My main thoughts are: 1. Fiyero. Poor sweet Fiyero. Who keeps selecting these mayonnaise men when one of the first things ever described about him is the fact he has dark skin. Like...hello....he's from the desert/savanna region with nomads and elephants.... 2. Fiyero again, why GOD are we doing the same ancient "ohhh a boy between the giiirls, he like her not meee" schtick when it should actually be Glinda and Fiyero playing tug of war with Elphaba, if anything. They're both in love with her, this is textual, there is precedent for this. She's also very very focused on other things and keeps trying to wriggle out of affections tender touch even though she wants it so bad, you see. the big scaredy baby. 3.I actually like that the madam Morrible thing is a Little more...subtle. In the book its VERY in your face, but I like baby elphie being keen to injustice while also having a more vulnerable side that can be personally manipulated. All the more reason for her to be even more bitter and defensive about it Later 4.Nessarose...now this one i understand may have some caveats for the stage, but I don't really like that they put Nessa in a wheelchair. Spoilers if you haven't read it, but in the book she was born with no arms. Which I think is a unique choice, though I do have some criticisms on how it was handled in the book too. I'm curious if the new one about Elphie's childhood will go into it, but the thing about being born armless is that humans are VERY adaptable, and if anything fancy slippers would be something of a hindrance for someone who relies a lot on their feet. Nessa being sort of herded into functioning a certain way that forces her to be extremely reliant on everyone around her though...that'd still be interesting. Slippers of a well-meaning sort that only further lock her into a very specific expectation of existence, oh my 5. Accepting the the musical for what it is, my god it loses a lot of the fact that elphaba is a radical anti-fascist struggling against the wizard gestapo, and that's not even slightly an exaggeration dfhjdfhj. So in summary! I dont mind that it's a happier retelling, but I think it cuts out a little too much of what I like about the book to fully appreciate it. AND it makes Fiyero annoying to me, which is a shame because I like him in the book

really warms my heart to picture little eleven year old ponyboy going with his mom and dad to see the sound of music in theaters (because his dad loves movies and his mom loves music and they would just so enjoy it) and it’s one of his favorite memories of them as he gets older

Been thinking a lot about how, when it comes to theatre, different casts can create a completely different experience of the same show. The first time I saw Wicked the actress playing G(a)linda was extremely flat. The character came across as vapid, self-absorbed, and annoying, with little added depth. I know now from seeing the show a few times that G(a)linda is all of those things, but she isn't just those things. She is nuanced and flawed and can be played with an incredible amount of depth.
But that first portrayal the character will always influence my interpretation. I'm never gonna be a G(a)linda stan. I can see and understand the richness her character can have, but first impressions are forever. My reading of the character is always gonna be a little skewed and biased against her.
On the flipside, the actor who played Fiyero was the most dynamic performer on that stage (Elphaba was a close second) and portrayed the character with so much care and did so much in his delivery and choices to give the character all the depth he could possibly have. I have since seen Fiyeros who are far more boring, like the G(a)linda I first saw. But my initial impression and interpretation of the character (and his relationship with Elphaba) remains.
"Did we even watch/read the same thing?" is a common rhetorical question when coming across an interpretation you disagree with, but I think it can be extremely true with theatre. Depending on the production, the cast, even the night, you can see a completely different show, and I think folks discoursing about Wicked characters and ships would do well to remember that.

I don’t think Andrew and Neil watch TV except for Exy games and maybe game shows
They might not sit down and watch a fiction/drama show but I do feel like Andrew secretly enjoys shitty reality TV and watches thing wayyyy more than Neil does.
Watching TV is probably just a form of escapism that Neil doesn’t really care about at all, but Andrew? While I could see him opting to play video games over watching TV, I think on a day where he needs to switch his brain off, he’ll put on a movie or watch some reality TV. Neil doesn’t understand what Andrew gets out of watching rich middle aged white women arguing about nothing at all, but Andrew will pretend he’s working on something on his laptop while intently watching the drama go down. He doesn’t try to get Neil into the movies that he watches because he knows he won’t care, but also, him putting something on the TV just stops Neil from putting on another exy match when Andrew can’t be bothered with it.

i love chansaw as a ship name because its so similar to 'chainsaw' which is HChandler's most iconic line arguably ("well fuck me gently with a chainsaw!")
