SURPRISE! I'm NOT dead! Long post ahead, but TL;DR, I'm not dead, and for the first time in 3-4 years, I finally feel like I can freely work on projects for myself again. Like this AU! I'm trying to pump out update 1 ASAP, evidenced by this sneak peek right here! I don't have a timeframe yet, so bear with me- I'm working on it far more actively right now, the backgrounds are by far the hardest part of what I'm doing with this ask blog. That being said, this van interior background is the backdrop for many of the images in this first update, and will be the backdrop for many updates in the future, so this was a big hurtle to jump! It feels a lot easier to sink my teeth into the rest of this update as a result, so definitely keep your eyes peeled for more stuff soon. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask, and I'll answer them! Or, if you still have questions for the characters, feel free to ask those too! (As always, none of this was traced! All of it is freehand, and yes, I bust my ASS trying to make these backgrounds as close to the original as possible! Yes, I am absolutely insane for doing that!) (further, more personal explanation on where I've been for literal years below the cut)

Unfortunately, these past years were spent being deeply manipulated, lied to, and then ultimately abandoned after discovering the truth, which has been an incredibly difficult experience. It's been the thing that's stood in the way of many of my personal projects, as I put my passions and happiness aside for the benefit of others. This AU, unfortunately, was a direct victim of that. Now, however, in the wake of things, I'm slowly regaining everything that I had lost to this manipulation. I'm regaining a deep desire to revisit the things I loved doing, and the last thing I really worked super hard on for myself was this AU, right before everything went to shit. Finally, though, I'm here. This time, I plan to stay. If you're here, reading this, all these years later, thanks for being here. MSA X Danny Phantom: The Ultimate Enemy Chapter 2: Present Day of High Schools/Clockwork with Two Ghosts/Danny's Homework 

Meanwhile in Present-Day High Schools: Casper High School and Mighty Falcon's High School. In the Auditorium, Mr. Lancer and Mr. Jerry Sanderson are on stage at a podium, Jazz, Jane and Irving sit in chairs on either side of them. They are told that C.A.T Tests (Career Aptitude Test) to Students of Danny, Sam, Tucker, Dan, and Susan, Henry in the Audience hearing

Mr. Lancer: Your future is not carved in stone, people, but it may be carved with a No. 2 pencil *Holds one up*

Out in the auditorium, Danny and Tucker are sitting next to each other, Sam right behind them with her crossed arms propped on the back of their seats. Danny is sitting up and listening intently, whereas Sam and Tucker look bored out of their minds. Dan and Susan, Henry are sitting next to others

Sam and Tucker: Oh, please.

Danny: Quiet, this is important!

Susan and Henry: Aw, not good...

Mr. Lancer: As most of you have probably forgotten, you will be taking the Career Aptitude Test [the letters C.A.T. and the words spelled out on the projector screen behind him as he speaks] on Saturday. [Brightly] Do well, like Ms. Fenton and Ms. Turner here [gesturing to Jazz and Jane] who got -

*Danny speaking dully along with Lancer* - the highest score in the history of the C.A.T. -

Mr. Lancer: [an image of two obnoxiously rich people flinging money around clicked onto the screen, followed by a fancy car, a mansion strongly resembling Vlad's, and a yacht] Fail, like [we pan to Irving, who is sleeping with his mouth open and drooling] Irving "Third Degree" Burns here, who [he wakes up with a start] got the "lowest" score in the history of the C.A.T., and you will be doomed to a career at the Nasty Burger [an image of the burger joint displays on the projector].

Irving: *Standing angrily* Hey! Working at Nasty Burger takes brains, you know! If those 42 Nasty Secret Herbs and Spices in our Nasty Sauce are overheated, [Advancing to the edge of the stage] it could cause an explosion that could take out a whole city block!

Crickets chirp as the students stare at him, unimpressed

Irving: Oh, who am I kidding. [Slumping off the stage] My life is over.

Mr. Lancer: [holding up the answer booklet] These aren't just the answers to the test. They're the answers to your future. So study. [He holds up a briefcase and puts the booklet inside, then closes it and handcuffs it to his wrist.] Remember, it's your future. Do you want fries with it?

Mr. Jerry: Soon, coming back to answers to me and him, alright.

Lancer marches offstage, briefcase in hand. Jerry leaves off stage.

Tucker: Dude, you ok? Danny?

Henry: Dan, you are right? Dan?

Danny and Dan are staring ahead, looking like someone just kicked his puppy. We zoom out to see him on Clockwork's viewscreen, adult! Clockwork looking at it. He turns away as the Observants address him with Present Ghost and Past Ghost

Present Ghost: Wait... Three Normal AU Timeline? Not good... What happened to Dark Future?

Past Ghost: Not right... Now need to help them.

Observant 1: What are you waiting for? It's the perfect chance to take him out!

Clockwork: That's the problem with you Observants. [He switches to child form.] All you do is observe.

Observant 2: You know our oath. To watch -

Clockwork: [Getting up in his grill] - and never act. Which is why [He switches to his old form] you bring me in to do your dirty work. [He raises his staff and it flashes, the viewscreen turning to Danny studying at his kitchen table. We see Clockwork again in his adult form.] He turns evil because he's under pressure [he switches to child form] for some test? Fine. Then perhaps it's time for a test of my own.

Present Ghost: Not good, they have turned evil bad? Not right, but do they need to help them? Right?

Past Ghost: Right... See it...

We sink through the viewscreen to the Fenton kitchen. Danny is surrounded by books and working through a C.A.T. sample test. He taps the paper with his pencil for a moment, then drops his head into his hands despairingly. Jazz comes up behind him, peering over his shoulder with both hands on the back of his chair. None of the bubbles have been filled in. She frowns quizzically. Smiling a little, Danny lowers his hand to mark his first answer as A.

Dan: Hmm... I think... A, B, C? Hmm...

I’ve read many msa fanfics (both in the past and now) with a lot of “the trio shielding each other from bullies” kind of plot points. It always aches whenever i compare these headcanon-flashbacks with the actual lore of the current official videos- And I refuse to suffer alone :) 

Sketching was a lot of fun for this one!  I wanted to be mindful with the two’s position and space in each panel to portray the passage of time... if that make sense? Such as always placing Arthur on the left while Lewis on the right. (And also having Arthur slowly fade into the background and getting smaller while Lewis is taking up more and more space) These decisions definitely wasn’t  obvious and I’ll try to convey this concept better in the future :)

Saw @teenageukulelescreamo‘s never sleep again au where lewis was wearing a letterman jacket and the idea has suctioned itself to my brain (thank you for this blessing ;-;)

MSA: Mushi sealed in Vivi ficlet

I have no idea where this was going but it's based on @answrs ‘s "shit's fucked AU' plot-shell thing from a few weeks back. So go read that if you want better context. 

It was supposed to end with Mushi sealing herself back up and leaving Mystery alone to deal with the fallout of the cave. But I ended up making her more sympathetic so a guess she would probably stick around and try to help maybe. Figured I’d post it now I’ve had some time to go back and edit stuff.

Summary: It’s the cave but Vivi gets possessed and Mushi is there as well.

Mushi is shocked from her stasis to the sound of mental alarms ringing as the wards, carefully constructed it protect her host’s mind, crack. 

A mental attack? For where? Who would dare?

The seal holding her in place shatters like glass, its built-in fail-safe releasing her to defend her bloodline. The invading threat has wormed its way downward, sinking in deep, hooking itself onto the human soul to which Mushi's own essence is tethered.

Angry, she lashes out at the poisonous creature, slicing through its connection, forcing it to shy away least it be shred to ribbon. It takes a few more targeted strikes before she has it in full retreat. Around her is the sensation of fear and apprehension. The fear is from her host, panicked and confused, and the apprehension is from the invader, surprised and equally irritated to have its plan foiled.

/Well, this is unexpected./ It voices, skittering away, attempting to hide. /I don't suppose you would consider a timeshare arrangement?/

/You dare intrude here./ She snarls, following, chasing it back to the point of infection. As she goes, she increases her control, wrapping herself carefully around the human girl- bundling her up to protect her from further harm.

Suddenly, there is light, and she can see, hear, touch and smell. The area is cold stone. She is balanced on a rock shelf with a steep drop on either side. She slips forward, feeling out the body that is not hers. Before her stands a familiar seven tailed kitsune, and it has been a day and an age since they parted. Her relief at seeing him after, what she assumes to be, several centuries, is tempered by the circumstances.  Now is not the time for reunions. The evil, though contained to her right arm, is still very much present. Mushi may have successfully forced it away from her host's fragile soul and quarantined her mind, but it remains too strong to simply banish without a proper ritual. For the first time in a long while, she draws on her connect to divine power. A cold frost gathers over the infected arm, hardening till its surface is coated in a layer of thick ice.

/NO!/ She hears the invader screech but pays it no mind, continuing with a grim determination until it falls into a silent stasis. The arm goes completely numb, and she breathes out in a long exhale. This temporary seal would hold for the time being. Her exhale mists in the ethereal chill now surrounding her.

"It has been too long, my old friend. Now, tell me what folly has led to my premature awakening."

She doesn’t get a response because her Kitsune leaps off the rock shelf in a bust of bright red which carries him down among the many tall stone spikes dotting the cave floor. Perplexed and realizing that perhaps the danger has not entirely passed, Mushi summons her blade to her remaining hand. It will be tricky balancing and fighting with one arm encased in heavy ice, but she would be a poor example of a swordswoman if she let it slow her down. For a moment, she examines the drop, contemplating whether she should follow and jump. Maybe, if this were her own body, hardened from years of training, she would make the jump and channel ice to maneuver more safely. Unfortunately, this body is soft and unused to such magic, so she quickly decides to find an alternate route.

It takes her longer than she would like, as she is forced to backtrack up a stone tunnel, searching for a separate entrance, but, eventually, she makes it to the stone floor. What she sees is no danger, but two humans dressed in brightly coloured clothing. The one with blond hair is obviously dead and the other, purple one, is unconscious. Uncertain, she watches, scanning the area for threats. After several seconds she concludes that they are alone. Mushi moves closer, examining the two humans’ more thoroughly. The cause of the blond one’s death was most likely partial impalement on the stone spikes. Not a quick death by any measure. It is also not the result of any attack. She lets her sword turn to mist and ice crystals which scatter and hang in the air, catching the red light.

Slowly, she approaches, reaching to place a hand against her friends’ shoulder. It is a gesture intended to comfort and never had she imagined using it for him who's poor opinion of humans had remained constant even after several decades of their friendship. It appears that much has changed during her rest. Silently, she waits for him to mourn.

/Vivi? Is she okay?/ He speaks after his period of silence, voice subdued and pained. No indicators of respect or deferral to what was definitely one of her direct descendants.  No, there is only worry and concern. Odd. Things really have changed.

"I assume Vivi is one," She motions to herself, keeping her surprise contained. A nod of confirmation.

"She is well. In shock, but not in any danger. I have put her to sleep for the time being. When she is no longer in danger, I shall relinquish control."

She looks to the two humans again, “I am sorry that I did not awaken sooner. Perhaps I could have been of greater use.” Her condolences are met with more silence. Mushi wants to mention that they should attend to the exorcism of her arm post-hast but holds on account of how heartbroken the other looks. They still have a little time. She releases a sigh. What has she gotten herself into?

In this case though, you have done a really good job displaying why he doesn’t want to use this option, as well as what it takes for him to be willing to use it, that I mostly feel sad for deku that he was forced to let Eri’s spirit possess him, instead of getting caught up in the hype of an awesome moment

Honestly though, that’s also my reaction to the chapter as a whole. It was full of interesting world building and was generally an awesome chapter, but it was also well written enough that I also feel Izuku’s emotions and mostly just feel melancholy now.(Seriously, when I look back on it, “I invite you in” opened the gateway to an awesome and well deserved ass kicking, but it’s mostly just heart breaking. Why can’t I just enjoy Izuku kicking ass? Why?)

ahaha yeah, i try to have good reasons for why characters do or don’t take certain actions, and this whole fusion thing is something he keeps REALLY close to his chest... i’m glad that carried across well! it is very sad though that he feels cornered into using this ability.

at long last, im so excited to announce that this ask blog is officially open! many people know I’ve been working on this intro for roughly five weeks, and I’m very excited to finally share it- possibly as excited as I am to FINALLY begin telling this story!!!

first of all, tumblr completely ruined the quality of that last panel- if you wanna see the full sized gif (warning you now, it’s enormous), you can find that here! And, if the gif is hard to read/hard to view, there’s a static version of this panel below the cut! 

There’s also a ton of extra information that could answer some questions you might have, as well as a list of potential triggers to watch out for in the future! However, it is really long, and when I say really long, I mean it’s chapter-in-a-book-long so please don’t feel obligated to read it unless you have extra questions/have some bad triggers you wanna make sure to avoid.

Otherwise though, I can’t wait to see what kind of questions you guys send these two! One has to wonder… where in the world are they headed off to in the dead of night… 

First of all, here’s the static image of Panel 8, as promised!

And now for some extra info on things going forward.

On every single canon update, there will be a description of themes in this story that could unsettle or discomfort some viewers. I’ve included tags to blacklist, and explained exactly how these situations might arise so folks who are sensitive to this kind of thing can prepare themselves accordingly! 

I would recommend at least skimming this list if you know you have some bad triggers! This story will never get too dark or intense, as I’m attempting to stay true to the original spirit of MSA, but this doesn’t mean it won’t touch on those themes at all.

also, in regards to how much of this art is hand drawn by me- the honest truth is 99% of this is entirely freehanded. I took colors from the videos, but otherwise only used them as reference. However, if I ever used a canon asset to help me, I will always specifically say what exactly was borrowed directly from canon in a way that was more than just using images as reference and taking colors. for this post specifically, I’ll word it a little differently, but this will all be much tidier in the future.

the van asset is 97% freehanded by myself- I did take measurements of the canon asset, and marked my canvas so I’d know the width and height of the van, and vaguely marked where the tires would be. 
I did trace the antennae ontop, as well as the cloud decals, one of the curves on the right side of the windshield, part of the door window at the very bottom lefthand corner, and the rear view mirror. The logo was not recreated, I directly took that and just altered the colors to fit the van.  Other than that, everything you see on that van was freehanded. The van was also the only thing I used a canon asset to help me with for creation of it, meaning that the rest of the art in this introduction is entirely freehand.

moving on from that- updates will not take an entire month like this did. i will not be doing eight full color illustrations for every single update, and for right now, at the minimum, they’ll happen weekly!  i can provide more information going forward once I work out how I’m going to go about things a little better, since things won’t be as huge as this introduction was. don’t worry though, the quality of the art itself will stay the same throughout the whole story!

and yes, lewis and vivi are in this too! there’s a big cast of characters, and lew and viv are just as much at the center of this story as arthur and mystery are- don’t worry, you’ll see them plenty soon enough!

finally, before we get to the content warning stuff, if you ever have any questions about how I’m running things, or need clarification on anything, please let me know! I’m happy to explain things in more depth if needed!!! and now, here’s the last chunk of this INCREDIBLY long introduction. ~~~ WHAT FOLLOWS IS A VERY LONG (!!!), IN DEPTH LIST OF THINGS VIEWERS MIGHT ENCOUNTER IN THIS STORY THAT COULD TRIGGER THEM. If you are not super sensitive or have very intense triggers, you don’t really need to read what follows unless you want to. Otherwise, I would at least skim this, so you know what tags to block so you won’t have to see this type of content.

Don’t let any of this worry you too much, by the way! This story is very likely not ever going to get extreme in any manner, I just like to be very cautious, just in case!

Also keep in mind that you can always ask me to add tags to a post, and it’s highly unlikely I will refuse said request. If I do, it will be for a very good reason, and I’ll explain it thoroughly, as well as remain open to any discussion about it. With that in mind, here are things to be aware of:

CHARACTER DEATH/REMOVAL FROM STORY: There may be characters in this story that you will get attached to that end up dying or not being in the story at all or as much as they were before. This story has chances for different outcomes depending on asks, but there are some things I have set in stone and a few of them involve these themes, so please be mindful of that. The tags to blacklist to avoid updates that touch on this specifically are #character death or #character removal.

DISTURBING CONTENT: This is vaguely worded because it is a bit of broad umbrella. There may be themes of body horror, gore, violent/upsetting/disturbing depictions of death (not any worse than Lew’s death, if it ever is I’ll be sure to specify ahead of time), creepy/unsettling designs and environments, so on and so forth. The tag to blacklist to avoid updates that include anything I consider to be disturbing to view is #disturbing content.

ANGST: This story will get sad, and broach on themes of abandonment, loss, trauma, depression, paranoia, self-hate, and things in this nature. What I can immediately promise is this story will NEVER have themes of suicide or self-harm. I do not feel this story needs to go there, nor do I wish to take it there. Also, while there is angst, I do not believe in beating characters up mercilessly- the angst is for the story and their development. This is not going to be a story that is only angsty. However, if any sort of angst upsets you, the tag to blacklist to avoid updates that include heavier, angstier themes is #angst.

PARANOIA: A few of the characters often get a sense of being hunted or followed, or something lurking around the corner, which can be upsetting to some viewers. A few characters may occasionally have moments where they express their anxieties in depth. The tag to blacklist to avoid updates that include heavy mentions of paranoia/depictions of it/make the characters (and potentially audience) feel paranoid is #paranoia.

UNREALITY: Lewis has some powers that can warp space and create illusions, and potentially will be in situations where he uses them in ways that could mess with people’s perception of reality. This can be very uncomfortable for some people to view, so in updates where this may happen, the tag to blacklist is #unreality.

SUGGESTIVE THEMES: This story will NEVER be explicitly NSFW, and will rarely ever feature these themes at all. It is mainly for the occasional joke here and there, but absolutely nothing more. However, if any implications of something slightly more adult make you uncomfortable, the tag to blacklist here is #suggestive themes.

ANIMAL HARM: Mystery may enter situations where he ends up getting hurt during this story, though he will never endure any kind of situations that mimic real life animal abuse. If seeing an animal be harmed in any way remotely upsets you, the tag here to blacklist is #animal harm.

After five weeks of work, my computer crashing and erasing every single file off of it, art block, and some general life stress, I can finally safely announce that my Never Sleep Again MSA AU ask blog will be opening tomorrow (1/20/19, 4 PM EST)! Many of my friends have called me a masochist for how much I’ve put into this project, and while they may be somewhat correct, I have nonetheless had so much fun planning this out, and I am so unbelievably excited to start telling this story!!! so, holy... cow, thank you guys so much for a response that is just... far bigger than I could have ever expected, I’m so happy so many of you guys are excited about this story!!! so, I wanted to do a very quick little thing to thank you guys for the support and 150+ follower count in the first week of this blog opening! (please ignore how badly i drew lewis here, haha, this was kinda quickly done :,D) i know i’ve been rather silent and many of you might be wondering where the next update is- that’s gonna be on sunday (1/31). while i wouldn’t usually talk about any personal stuff on this blog, I had a bad panic attack a few nights ago that rudely interrupted everything in my life and left me with crippling anxiety- however, that’s slowly begun to improve as the week carries on, so I’m sure by next week or the week after I’ll be feeling a lot better! and going forward, once I build up enough of a buffer, I’d like to be able to release updates twice a week- I’ll let you guys know when I’m able to start doing that! in the meantime, thank you so much for your patience, and thank you so much too for your questions!!! I’ve gotten some really great ones that are gonna make this story VERY interesting, and I can’t wait to answer this first batch over these first couple of updates!!! :D

I'm curious, why is it called the "Never Sleep Again" AU?

It’s called the Never Sleep Again AU because one of my favorite Mystery Skulls songs happens to be a SUPER unknown one called Never Sleep Again, and the lyrics fit most of the characters in this astonishingly well, and thus! Alright guys so I’ve been trying to keep this under wraps but I now need to explain what’s up. On Saturday night, my computer crashed, and we took it in to someone who could fix it.

I was unfortunately informed today that all of my files may have been lost- including the NSA panels. I do have the first seven, but the eighth one was- well, the background was done, and I was basically on the last leg doing the van.

This, as you can imagine, sucks pretty hard. I thankfully actually have a somewhat low res version of the panel 8 background, and the lines to the van asset- so I could still salvage this with the things that I sent to friends if it turns out I’ve lost the original panel 8. But it’s also possible I did not lose it- so here’s my question to you guys.

Would you rather I wait (a few days possibly) and see if panel 8 was saved, or would you rather I start working on salvaging it and finishing it up so NSA can finally be released? You can vote here on what you’d rather have happen.

There’s pros and cons to both options, and I’m willing to do either (although I’m leaning more towards just trying to finish this thing with what I have). Ultimately, I’m leaving it up to ya’ll! I’ll check back later and see what came out ontop! Thanks for being so patient the past month and a half, regardless of anything that does happen, we are very very close to the finish line. im so sorry i keep fucking making new aus for msa but. this one. this one... this is brand spankin new, and- i jokingly call it the flex tape AU in my server but the real name is the Never Sleep Again AU, and it asks a very simple question: what if Lewis somewhat survived? I say somewhat because... as you might have guessed, he’s still half ghost! there’s a lot more to this AU, but I’d rather not spoil it just yet because, well, I’m planning to open an ask blog for it, hooray! Vivi and Arthur are also going to get redesigns, and Mystery will get a bandana, because... I yearn for it. But, yes, more on this is coming!!! Stay tuned!
