Okay so I just managed to finish watching the new live action ATLA series and all I see is people getting mad about changes and this and that but I’m here to talk about my FAVOURITE change made.
The 41st division that Zuko saved being his crew on the ship. I L o v e that to no end. Just the fact that Zuko saved their lives entirely and yeah they’re kinda banished with him but they would be dead otherwise and ahhhh my gods it’s amazing. I think it’s an amazing addition to the story and I’m glad it was put there.
Sure I didn’t agree with some of the other changes but keeping in mind that it’s difficult to adapt cartoon to live action and that a lot of the original episodes when the show was coming out were fillers I think they did well including as much as they could even if it was put in the background. Like that one pub scene you can hear a patron mention that the avatar defeated the canyon crawlers or something along those lines.
Cabbage man was incredible as always 🥬✨

ugh the parallel in 1X04 of iroh telling zuko that everything he needs is on zuko's boat and then the scene cutting to zuko and iroh paddling away in their small canoe, only for zuko to temporarily put off the chase for aang because his uncle is injured and everything he needs is in this boat as well

One thing i loved about natla
They made Zhao such a fucking dork. Like he was a dork in the og show but they really leant into it in the live action.
Absolute doofus natla zhao >>> creepy, weirdly intimately obsessed with the kid characters of the show atla Zhao

Something that I haven't seen anyone else talking about when it comes to the live action Avatar show is that they changed the fact that Zuko/Ozai agni kai. In the original show, Iroh tells Jee that the reason Zuko got burned is specifically because he would not fight Fire Lord Ozai. It was a scene wherein Zuko is shown to be prone to making mistakes and trying to fix them in ways that (in this case literally) blow up in his face. It is a microcosm of one of the biggest lessons he still needs to learn.
Cut to the new show and Zuko is out here doing an entire action sequence with a Fatherlord Ozai. It doesn't necessarily change his character all that much, and it's a great moment in the show to see some choreography, but it feels weird that they made that change especially combined with all of the other changes. Idk what they were going for.

There’s something inherently “cringe” about live action i think.
Luffy stretches in anime and he’s a silly little guy. Luffy stretches in live action and it’s uncanny.
Aang jumps in animation and it looks natural. Aang jumps in live action and there’s obviously wires.
There is physically no way to film the Potato Chip scene from Death Note, shot for shot, without it just looking absolutely Weird
Whats the point of “live action remakes” anyways? What’s the point of remakes? We should reserve remakes for things that weren’t really good to begin with. And if we’re going to remake anything, we should make it animated, not live action. Suspension of disbelief is so much easier in animation, weird camera angles look so much nicer, slapstick lands so much easier, cute animals don’t look like hellspawns, I am BEGGING everyone to just stop “hate watching” these remakes. You already know they’re bad. Just don’t do it. Don’t even pirate it. You really want to lose that many hours of your life?
I realize all of this stems from the “animation=kids” mentality but, given the growing popularity of anime, I’m really hoping mainstream gets the memo

What do you MEAN you're going to remove one of the most important aspects of Sokka's character arc in the first season? What do you MEAN you're going to remove Sokka unlearning misogyny, accepting change and embracing his role as a fighter and protector of the Avatar in order to end the war? What do you MEAN???

I liked it better when Katara released Aang from his 100 year slumber through the pure unfiltered rage of a feminist rant at her brother

Big cousin Lu Ten helping the kids on a hard level
I like to think that he was a lot like his dad, spending time with them and showering 'em with affection.

I feel like so many problems people have with tv at the moment could be solved if we just went back to the good ole days of 20 episodes a season that’s just sixty percent filler and character development. Give the people what they want- less condensed story and more meaningless shenanigans

Katara 🌊!!!
This urge to draw her probally came from the new atla live action. Idk if it's going to be good becuse my expectations are lowering with every new information we get. And i hate the whole art direction of the series. And don't even get me started on the costumes.
But putting that aside, ever since i watched atla 2 years ago, i couldn't wait to draw all the characters in digital medium ( : And here I am, finnaly doing so.
The patterns, tattos and jewerly are inspired by inuit coulture ( i know its not really accurate).
Anyway, I hope you like this piece
