I refuse to read the new book but what I'm hearing is that it's okay when the IC want to impulsively steal from another court which results in a death sentence, it's okay when both Feyre and Rhysand want to impulsively form pacts with ancient death Gods without consulting one another and treat it as a weird flirty gift???, it's okay for Cassian to impulsively murder the entire village where his mother was or whatever that was about, it's okay for them to impulsively tear down an entire apartment building to teach a lesson, Feyre and Rhysand made a life/death pact without consulting anyone- AND SO MUCH MORE because the IC is literally all impulse and no self control, but they're livid and hateful towards Nesta because she "did something impulsively". Okay Janet.

Feyre gets with Tamlin, but she leaves him for Rhys who happens to be her actual mate.

Nesta leaves Cassian, her actual mate for someone else. Someone of her choosing, someone who loves her for who she is and someone who actually stands up for her.

It’s kind of sad when the fanfiction for a book series (and relationship) is better than the book series itself. No author is perfect, but SJM has absolutely butchered the characters in the last few ACOTAR books (Feyre and Cassian in particular) all in the name of making Rhys the most perfect, infallible, and can-do-no-wrong character for her own narrative. To her, every character that doesn’t think like or submit to Rhys in any way, is the villain.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that she doesn’t write objectively. She lets her own biases influence the characters.

Nesta becomes the villain for not agreeing with Rhys and not submitting to their to their happy little family

Feyre is no longer independent. Rather she is just subservient to Rhys, and the few times they don’t agree, they just make up after fucking

Rather than Cassian being supportive to his own mate, he constantly antagonizes her even though he’s 500 years old with patience of a 4 year old

Nesta’s “healing” arc. SJM could have written Cassian being supportive, Nesta receiving counseling and addiction treatment, and her family recognizing what she’s going through. Instead, she’s given a choice between death or imprisonment, forced to train when she never wanted to be a warrior, and is fucked by her jailer while she’s still extremely emotionally vulnerable. Cassian tells her everyone hates her because god forbid anyone ever criticize Rhys rather than worship him.

Nesta is still despised by Rhys even after helping in the war (and saving his brother), getting physically and sexually assaulted by a kelpie getting the mask, and locating the harp. It took her having to give away her own power before Rhys ever acknowledged that she significantly helped their court even when she had absolutely no reason to.

Nesta was never given a fair shot because SJM hated her character to begin with. The writing was always subject to Sarah’s blatant biases and by doing so she ruined half the series.

I’d like to give a thank you to the fanfic authors who have written the series better than SJM herself.

Something about most art of Nesta being sexualized makes me so very sad for her. She's reduced to a sex object by a lot of fans and her own mate. Yeah you can be sexy and empowering at the same time but there's just this undercurrent that feels very much like she was hated when she was modest and private but now that she's a sexy hellcat she's badass. Nesta deserved to be courted properly with gifts and books and flowers and chocolates.
