Cinderella’s Castle Song Rankings
Rankings might change with the proshot - and I’m aware some people might have just had off days vocal wise! Generally I loved the songs in CC, just some more than others!
1. Ash to Ash
Honestly 1 and 2 are interchangeable, but the ethereal quality and the combination of Bryce and Kim’s voices just tipped this one to first.
2. Step on Your Grave
A couple of interesting lyric quirks made this one slightly below Ash to Ash (namely the whole lawyer line), but Bryce kills this song and it’s such a great character song for Ella. Let black women be rightfully angry!
3. Cursed Crazy
I love this song lyrically, for story progression, and also just the music is great. Jeff’s vocals weren’t the best (I assume he was having a bad day), but he’s not as big of a part in this as he was in Castle On A Hill. I don’t actually think the narrator was that necessary in this song to be honest.
4. Ever After
Bryce Charles solo, with great ensemble backing. This song honestly sounds like an end of Act I song and so the placement makes you wonder what on earth is gonna happen next.
5. Neon
James kills this song. It’s a moment of “maybe this prince could be charming?” before he ruins it immediately after lol.
6. Ash to Ash reprise
Again, Bryce Charles. What else is there to say. This is mostly this low since it’s so short.
7. Last Forever
Bryce, Mariah, and Lauren have great harmonies in this. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I was not so certain of what would happen right after this scene.
8. Trappings of Starlight
I like this song, but it hasn’t stuck with me as much as the others. Bonus points for Tadius dad-dancing, and for Ella getting a moment to mourn her friends.
9. Facade
I did not enjoy Facade as much as I thought I would - something about the audio was off. Not sure if it was intentional dissonance or what. I also felt all three were deep into character voices so not as vocally impressive as they normally are, specifically noticed this with Mariah. Hoping I’ll like it better in the pro shot.
10. Watch/Watch reprise
This is mostly so low since I struggle to watch this scene with Ella crying out in pain the whole time. Looping in the reprise as it happens so soon after and isn’t much different.
11. Castle On A Hill/Castle On A Hill Reprise
Linking these two together also since they’re essentially the same song. I really want Jeff to stop writing himself so much falsetto. This song could have been amazing if it was fully ensemble or if Jeff was singing in his low tone. I also got the impression he had strained his voice and I’m well aware he sounded better on the demo. I was just really disappointed as I was so looking forward to this song and it was hard to sit through. It also feels disjointed from the rest of the show as it has no plot relevance.

Eddie Munson + potential Iron Maiden references
because I'm hyperfixiating and desperate. Also apparently not everyone was raised on 80s metal, so this might be new to some people and gatekeeping is lame. None of this is confirmed obviously and I'm probably reaching but here we go
Tumblr media
let's start with the most obvious one: This is Iron Maiden's mascot. His name is Eddie. He's been on every single album cover, most single covers, merch, posters... He looks a little different every time, but he's always undead.
Tumblr media
This is the cover artwork for the 1982 album The Number of the Beast. It features A huge version of Eddie, controlling the strings of a red, devil-like creature, which in turn holds the strings of a tiny version of Eddie. The Devil (Vecna, there I said it) is not shown to be aware of Big Eddie controlling him. It's all very double agent, The Spy parallel. Also if you take just the frame of Big Eddie's hand and the devil, it looks A LOT like Eddie Munson's puppetmaster tattoo. With a little fantasy and even more reaching there's also some vaguely mindflayery shape in the background of the image.
(probably irrelevant but still fun fact: This album was released on March 22nd 1982 - EXACTLY four years before Eddie Munson became the main suspect in Chrissy's death)
Tumblr media
This one speaks for itself. We've all seen the Eddie prequel book that's gonna come out later this year with literally the same title as this 1983 song.
Interestingly, Eddie has batwings here, aka KAS THEORY CONFIRMED?
Tumblr media
This one, holy shit. This is the artwork for the 1986 (!) album Somewhere in Time, and if the year and title weren't enough, there is so much more.
1. Again starting with the most obvious: There is a graffito on the wall to the very right that literally says EDDIE LIVES.
2. Under the graffito we see a hand reaching up from the ground (grave?). The version of Eddie that we get here is a cyborg, and the hand on the ground looks very cyborg-esque as well. The band members are seen a little towards the left as normal humans, so it's not like everyone's just a cyborg in this world. Ergo the hand belongs to a second Eddie, which is very in line with the whole "there is another timeline with shadow selves"-theory.
3. The red clouds in the background are very vecna-y.
4. The little winged figure from the Flight of Icarus cover is seen left of the big tower in the middle.
5. The neon sign of the movie theatre to the very bottom left contains the words "Live After Death" (illegible here, but it's there!)
6. The lyrics on this album! In particular Wasted Years, featuring the lines "But now it seems I'm just a stranger to myself
And all the things I sometimes do, it isn't me but someone else"
- again, very much in line with shadow selves. And even more Stranger in a Strange Land:
"Was many years ago that I left home and came this way
I was a young man full of hopes and dreams
But now it seems to me that all is lost and nothing gained
Sometimes things ain't what they seem
No brave new world, no brave new world
No brave new world, no brave new world
Night and day I scan horizon, sea and sky
My spirit wanders endlessly
Until the day will dawn and friends from home discover why
Hear me calling, rescue me
Set me free, set me free
Lost in this place and leave no trace
Stranger in a strange land
Land of ice and snow
Trapped inside this prison
Lost and far from home
[...]
They found his body lying where it fell on that day
Preserved in time for all to see
No brave new world, no brave new world
Lost in this place, and leave no trace
What became of the man that started
All are gone and their souls departed
Left me here in this place so all alone"
Does that sound like someone left for dead in the Upside Down or is that just me?
7. idk a fuckload more in the cover probablay because it's wild.
Bonus Metallica fact: Master of Puppets was released on March 3rd 1986. Eeven if he bought the album the day it was released (he would) that would have given him under three weeks to rehearse it so much that he could give the most metal concert ever on March 27th.
Anyway that's just from the top of my head; I might add on to it if/when I think of more. PLEASE spam me with your theories I beg you.
Side note: Contrary to popular belief, if you got into metal because of Eddie: That's awesome! Welcome! Again, gatekeeping sucks; we've all had our minds blown by a Metallica song for the first time at some point, so let's be nice to the newcomers.

hello fall out boy fans who sim and simmers who listen to fall out boy, i have a build for you all:
i spent the last few days creating a little home where every room is a different album or ep (soul punk and truant wave included, as i made too many rooms. oops), even the exterior has a theme. i did use a cluster of packs but it’s limited to six, and none are expansion or game packs, so hopefully everyone can place it fairly easily.
Tumblr media
ea id: stumpymatic lot name: 412 Phoenix Valley RD
everything is based off visuals and vibes, but i do believe a large chunk of rooms will get the point across. the common thread between them all is that this is a home for plant lovers! every room, minus the basement and kid’s room, have at least a couple plants.
a breakdown of the rooms + their themes and additional photos below the cut:
Tumblr media
basement (take this to your grave): this one was a bit hard for me because tttyg isn’t one of my top albums, so i ran short on visual references, but i do believe i got the vibe down just enough. the general basement atmosphere helped significantly. ironically i added the boneyard fish tank without any thought to the theme.
MAIN FLOOR
Tumblr media
living room (american beauty/american psycho): this is arguably the most normal room in the house. abap to me is very bright with warm yellows and cozy greens, its summer. tried to tie into the lyrics of “the kids aren’t alright” with the bear chair and photos of (what i presume) those long gone.
bathroom (pax am days): the thing about pax am days is while it’s fall out boy going back to their hardcore roots, they are in a mature state as individuals and an band. so this one ties back to the brick walls of the basement, but classier. it’s also just straight black. because i love dark bathrooms lol
kitchen (mania): this one was hard, and i erased everything i previously typed because i had a different idea and reworked the entire room. the new version is more cohesive than the original and spacious. small references are the obvious purple wall, but also a glass ceiling over the breakfast nook for "i hope the roof flies off."
dining room (soul punk): this one is definitely more stylized and i actually love it a lot, probably my favorite room. i just picture parties where the attire is formal but fun happening in here. if you place this lot for any reason whatsoever, please let it be because i spent at least 20 minutes making the boxes off the album cover out of individual neon lights.
SECOND FLOOR
Tumblr media
main bedroom (folie à deux): this was like mania in as much as it was kind of a bad decision, but i think i made it work. references: color (obviously), butterfly photo ("disloyal order"), baseball bat ("headfirst slide"), mirror ("pavlove"), black dress ("tiffany blews"), and of course, the gnome in the bear outfit (which i affectionately call the "folie gnome" and try to remember to place in most of my builds).
master bath (truant wave): this is all color palette vibes. i just kept picturing the cover and love a brown toned bathroom with pops of green. but also the lights over the sinks, so you can have your own spotlight.
hall bath (so much (for) stardust): again with the black bathroom theme, but this time with pops of pink and touches of yellow. plus dog art! gotta have dog art. used the string of pearls light fixture again because a) love plants, and b) bubble-like.
kid's room (infinity on high): was absolutely bless with the photos that came with this album. it's not exact by any means, but it's similar. no sheep or grasshoppers in basegame, but we have a couple llamas and some ladybugs for replacements.
teen's room (from under the cork tree): to be honest this was a struggle to find the right vibes with the wallpaper and paints, but i ultimately like it. references: made sure to use a bed with proper bedposts, yes there are 16 candles on the dresser, postcards, and more!
shared bathroom (lake effect kid): this one is like the master bath, color vibes more than anything.
EXTERIOR
landscaping, etc. (save rock and roll): of course i saved my favorite album for my favorite part of building <3 lots and lots of red, layers upon layers with the flowers. apple trees to tie back to the videos for "young volcanoes" and "just one yesterday," as well as the pickup truck, and of course a fire pit*. all tucked away within a classic picket fence – which is the entire reason i created this, had "miss missing you" in my head then thought to myself, "i do love the picket fence in the sims.." and here we are!
*the fire pit that should be functional (it's one i pulled from another build i made and it did work), just have you sims light the tiny fireplace in the middle.
(the halls are very generic, to give the illusion that this is a normal house lol)
just a photo of the dining room because i need you all to see the boxes aksjfs
Tumblr media
a few final notes:
• place with move objects ON • packs used: – my first pet stuff – backyard stuff – romantic garden stuff – desert luxe kit – blooming rooms kit – holiday celebration pack
info again, for those who made it this far: ea id: stumpymatic lot name: 412 Phoenix Valley RD

Ain't Nothin' to It - Phillip Graves x Reader
1,159 words, fem reader with she/her pronouns. a bit suggestive but no warnings! My first time writing anything like this so please be kind. Thanks for reading!
Tumblr media
Read under the cut!
You nervously fiddled with the lace waistline of your sundress. It hit your mid-calf, a gorgeous navy blue in breathable cotton, with lace on the waist and along the sweetheart neckline. It was one of Phillip’s favorites, and you couldn’t think of a better way to surprise him.
He was coming back home to you for the first time in a few weeks, where he’d been you had no idea. However, he suggested that you go out and have fun, get a few drinks at his favorite hole-in-the-wall before ending the night in your soft king-sized bed.
You swear you sensed him before you saw him. The scent of his spicy cologne, the sharp thud of his boots on the wooden floor, his firm hand on your shoulder before he slid in between the stool next to you, offering you a wink and a smile. Oh, how you had missed this man.
“No hug for your best girl?” You pouted teasingly.
“More than a hug, if I get my way,” he pulled you into his arms, holding you tightly against his larger frame.
He released you, only to hold you by the wrists and step back, taking a good look at you. He sighed, pushing you gently back onto your stool before taking a seat himself. He motioned for the bartender to come over and ordered a whiskey for himself and your favorite drink for you. With the social lubricant, you felt your emotions even harder. The joy that leapt in your stomach when he flashed that big smile, laughing freely at a story you were telling him. The flush in your cheeks as he told you for the millionth time about how much he missed you when he was gone.
When Phillip noticed you were good and soused, he grabbed your hand and pulled you out onto the dance floor. You had two left feet, but Phil, he was a dancer from way back. He could whirl you around with the best of ‘em. But tonight, he just pulled you close and swayed you to the old country love songs humming from the speakers. He hummed the lyrics lowly, leaning into you. He exhaled a breathy laugh when your feet got confused, but only held you tighter.
“Do you have any idea how much I love you?” He said it in almost a whisper as he pressed soft kisses onto your neck.
“I think so, how much?”
“A whole sky full. Probably more,” his eyes shone the most beautiful blue in the hazy neon lighting. You couldn’t help but kiss him, and if you could’ve melted into a puddle then and there, you would’ve.
He had one hand pressed into your back, the other cupping your face, as your arms rested on his shoulders, and you let yourself fall into the kiss. You were almost numb now, in a good way. The smell of that cologne, something cheap but one he had loved for years, the Zach Bryan song tumbling through the speakers, his lips against yours, his stubble scratching against your face.
When you broke from the kiss, you swore you felt like a kid all over again. You rested your face on his chest, and you swayed there, where it felt like just the two of you, for what felt like hours.
He climbed into the drivers’ seat of the old blue pickup, after buckling you into the passenger seat. The old radio was playing the classic country station, Phillip’s favorite. He hummed to the George Strait song that was crackling through, and placed his hand in yours. He squeezed it tightly.
It reminded you of when you were kids. It was maybe your fifth or sixth date, and time had escaped you both. There you were, racing down those rural Texas roads, praying that time would slow down, just for a few minutes. You both knew well that breaking curfew would spell a grounding for you, and your dad’s displeasure towards Phil. You swear that you can still make out where you began playing with the lose threads of the fabric seats, nervously tugging at the string as a cloud of dust rose behind you.
That time, much like this one, Phil had grabbed for your hand. He ran his fingers over your knuckles at the red light, cursing quietly to himself.
Now, all these years later, at the red light, he pulled your hand into his, except this time he gently rolled the wedding band on your finger. Instead of damning the light for not turning fast enough, he hummed contentedly to the song on the radio. The city lights slowly turned into the occasional street light as he drove out of the city. Finally, you were heading home.
The drive home felt quick compared to the drive from there to the bar earlier. He opened your door like a gentleman, only getting slightly maimed by your border collie, Maple. He walked you carefully up the porch steps, and you rested on the cool wooden planks as he unlocked the door. You had your hair pushed up, cool summer air brushing the nape of your neck, and had kicked off your shoes. Phillip thought you had never looked more gorgeous than you did at this very moment.
Upon making your way into the house, you made a drunken beeline to the comfort of your bedroom. You had made the bed this morning, and you cursed yourself. You had been proud of the fresh sheets and pressed duvet, but it only made it more complicated for your inebriated self. Still yet, you were snug as a bug by the time Phillip reached your room, shirt off, pajama pants on.
“Wanna get out of your good clothes before you get too comfortable?” He said, yawning midway through. Your only response was an annoyed groan that sounded half you, half Chewbacca. Not getting the hint, or not caring, Phillip gently lifted the duvet and laced his fingers in yours, coaxing you to sit upright. He fumbled through your bedside dresser before finding one of his old shirts. It didn’t take too much begging to get you into it, and you thought about how you’d thank him for his kindness in the morning.
He tucked you back in as sweet as he could before climbing under on his side. When he proposed drinks before coming home, he didn’t exactly imagine this outcome. Then, he looked down. You looked sweet in a silly way, mouth slightly agape, breaths even. He listened for your breathing, that soldierly part of him that he could never quite turn off. You were asleep, he could tell by the gentle cadence of your inhales and exhales. He tried to match it. In the end, he settled for wrapping his arms around you, knowing they’d be asleep in the morning. He pressed a kiss to your head. He had missed home. He had missed you.

so i used to say vide noir was my favourite lord huron album because it is the most atmospheric of their albums and this is obviously a big part of it because vide noir is atmospheric as shit but honestly now i think it is less vide noir’s atmosphere and more its brilliant and uniquely insane batshit intensity that makes it such a special part of the lord huron discography.
can you imagine if you were listening to lonesome dreams and you heard a lyric like “cosmic ash and blackened brain i call you by your ancient names” youd have a heart attack lord huron have always been very emotionally intense but the way they took their gentle folk inspired melancholic beautiful cowboy sounds of love and heartbreak and strange happenings and turned it up to the raging neon scream into the darkness that is vide noir is quite possibly the most iconic thing any band has ever done. i know we have setting sun in lonesome dreams and that song is gorgeous and intense but it is just not the same kind of intense. you get your heart broken in strange trails and its “i dont know what to do haunted by the ghost of you” and how do i break the curse you left on me and runes on my skin and shit thats bad gang but you get your heart broken in vide noir and your soul gets hurled to the edge of the cosmos then plummets back into the ocean through a fucking hole in the fucking sky what the FUCK guys what the FUCK. i love playing vide noir all the time because this is my favourite framework through which to view my lived experience everything is so heightened and bright and loud and dramatic and imagining the world around you that way is just so magical. we start vide noir with “if i don’t find her i’m gonna tie that noose” we are promised a depth of love that stops at nothing and is no holds barred and bloody and raw and god does the album deliver on that promise every fucking second that follows. its the feeling of following your heart through its deepest darkest most twisted strange and unfamiliar paths without having any idea where its going, just to know what it has in store for you, because thats how committed you are to following it. there is no equivalent. sorry to say something a little sacreligous but vide noir makes the world ender look like skipping in the park like the world ender is pretty metal when the world ender comes baby run for your life and whatever but in vide noir we are trying to outrun the fucking pure black void im sorry but thats horrifying.
going from the ethereal, dreamy vision of the unknown in the yawning grave and frozen pines to vide’s something escaped when you opened the gate and now the unknown is everywhere and we’re drowning in it is just. its everything. this is not to disrespect the world ender or strange trails or any of the other songs and albums because the day i take any of that for granted i will cease to exist (esp the world ender that song owns my entire heart and soul). all of the albums and songs have something so unique to them and special about them which makes them completely irreplaceable. i only aim to argue that in the realm of intensity and insanity, vide noir is king. i am also intense and insane and i am its subject. hence irresistible fave

TITLE: 할시온 (Halcyon) ARTIST: 쏜애플 (Thornapple) ALBUM: 동물 (Animal) - 2023
LYRICS (Korean + English)
그들이 주는 슬픔을 받아먹고 나 홀로 보았던 밤하늘의 네온
feeding off the sadness they gave me i alone watched the neon of the night sky
푸르른 마음 내 안에 녹아들고 무덤가에 깔았던 이부자리 밑에 나를 묻네
a blue heart melts into me and below the bedding i laid by the grave, i'm buried
그들이 주는 희망을 받아먹고 나 홀로 멍들었던 꿈도 이젠 안녕
feeding off the hope they gave me i say now to the dreams i alone was bruised by, farewell
떨어질게 뻔한데 날 수 있을 것만 같아서 일어나 너에게 전화를 걸어
it's obvious i'll fall but it feels as though i just might fly so i rise and make a call to you
아직 거기 있나요? 난 대체 어디로 가면 될까요? 만날 순 없어도 부디 날 잊어버리지는 마요
are you still there? where should i be going? even if we can't meet, please don't forget me
나가지 말아요 내 안에 있어요 하루만큼 더 견뎌낼 수 있게 나와 섞여줘요
don't leave stay inside me so that i might survive another day merge with me
나를 버려줘요 아침엔 사라져줘요 그대가 있으면 난 아무 데도 갈 수가 없어
please abandon me in the morning, disappear for me if you're here i can't go anywhere
재가 돼버릴 세상일 것을 난 알고 있지만 어두워지길 기다려 오늘도 난 너를 삼키네
although i know this world will become ashes i wait for it to become dark i swallow you today, too
그들이 주는 슬픔을 받아먹고 나 홀로 보았던 밤하늘의 네온
feeding off the sadness they gave me i alone watched the neon of the night sky

HANDLING THE UNDEAD - Review
DISTRIBUTOR: NEON
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS: In the sweltering heat of a summer in Oslo, the deceased unexpectedly awaken, plunging three families into disarray as their beloved departed ones return. Questions arise about their identities and intentions. One family grapples with the resurrection of their mother, a sudden revival before they had the chance to grieve her tragic passing in a car accident. On the same day she buries her soulmate, an elderly woman is reunited with the love of her life. In a desperate attempt to alleviate his daughter’s depression, a grandfather rescues his grandchild from the clutches of the grave.
REVIEW: John Ajvide Lindqvist's literary career took off with the publication of his debut novel, "Let the Right One In," in Sweden in 2004. This acclaimed work was later adapted into a film with the same title, released in 2008. In 2010, an American remake of the film was produced, followed by an American television series that premiered on Showtime in 2022.
John Ajvide Lindqvist's second novel, "Handling the Undead," was released in 2005, followed by a short story collection in 2006 entitled "Let the Old Dreams Die." One of the tales in this collection was set in the same universe as “Let the Right One In” and one in “Handling the Undead.”
As a fervent admirer of the film "Let the Right One In," I was immediately drawn to the novel when an English translation became available. When I learned that English translations of "Handling the Undead" and "Let the Old Dreams Die" were released in the United Kingdom, I promptly acquired my personal editions.
As someone who grew up on the George Romero zombie canon and its subsequent impact on the genre, I found John Ajvide Lindqvist's take on the subject to be both engaging and refreshing. The narrative was primarily driven by the experiences of various families and the government's response to the unfolding crisis. He crafted a new contemporary metaphor in relation to what the undead represent to social structures and family dynamics.
The film's narrative is significantly less substantive from the novel, focusing more on the reactions of three families to the reanimation of their deceased loved ones. The cause of the undead rising is altered, and much of the dialogue and character development is simplified. The first 8 ½ minutes of the film features no spoken dialogue, except for musical lyrics, and little throughout the entirety of the film. A key element of the novel is the silent return of the dead to specific locations, presented in various states of decay. The film briefly explores the living coming to terms with the undead, their actions and little else. While the novel's events span several weeks, the film portrays them as occurring over a couple of days. Having read the novel, I noticed significant omissions in the adaptation that diminished its impact. Certain changes made to the storyline were a disservice to the novel and, consequently, weakened the film's overall effect. By the end of the film, the living characters appear as lifeless as the undead.
The film primarily relies on ambience created by masterful cinematography, sound design, and score. It employs a dark, cold visual style with a limited color palette. Tight framing dominates, except for a few wide shots that showcase the cemetery and hospital after the undead arrive. The film features few costume changes, which contributes to its lack of sense of passing time. The score is sparingly used and is often integrated with the sound design. I found the makeup design for the undead particularly impressive, as it achieves a realistic and organic look. The editing instills energy into the film, maintaining viewer engagement throughout its 97-minute runtime.
The cast was remarkable, conveying emotions primarily through facial expressions and body language due to limited dialogue. Bahar Pars, a talented actress, delivers a memorable scene toward the film's end, leaving a lasting impact with its intensity. Dennis Østby Ruud, a promising young actor, shines in his performance, as do the actresses portraying the elderly couple. Despite the limited material provided, the entire cast showcased their abilities admirably.
In her feature film debut, HANDLING THE UNDEAD, director Thea Hvistendahl presents a meditative exploration of grief and loss, capturing the impossible desire to turn the past into the present. The film immerses us in a profound sense of sorrow right from the start, and by the end, leaves a lingering feeling of hopelessness. While the film attempts to convey the emotional weight of the story, it falls short in comparison to John Ajvide Lindqvist's original novel. The film lacks depth in terms of character development and emotional range, making it difficult to fully appreciate the author's achievements in the novel. Despite its limitations, the film may still pique your curiosity, leading you to seek out Lindqvist's compelling and complex novel.

Video

Hello hello NSR Community, I’ve finished an animatic(? Lyric comic?) in time for October 10th- 10/10! This is the first time I’ve done anything like this, I hope people enjoy!
Warnings in the video as well, but a warning here too for Injury, Blood, and War
A few single frames I really enjoyed under the cut as well!

[Image ID: Neon J with a slightly different design than usual is looking out away from the camera holding a sword. The whole image uses only shades of green on a black background, and where he’s looking to is grainy and blurry. There is text on the screen that reads “Young men standing on the top of their own graves”]

[Image ID: An image of Neon J looming over blueprints on a table. He is holding a camera, and there is a part of the image in color based on the position of the camera, the rest is black and green. An upside down number can be partially seen in the coloured view, and there is text that reads “He’s never going home” along the bottom of the image.]
Tumblr media
[Image ID: An image of all of the members of ten ten standing next to each other. It has a black background, and each of the ten ten members are drawn with exclusively their respective colours. There is text that reads “Welcome to the Soldier Side,” with Soldier Side also being written with ten ten′s colour scheme]

I don’t think there will ever be a song that makes me as emotional as Neon Gravestones.
I’ve never had a song full on make me cry. I’ve teared up to plenty of songs but never to the extent of Neon Gravestones.
I just wanted to highlight the specific lyrics I think of:
“Communicating, further engraving, an earlier grave is an optional way”
“They say ‘how can he go if he’s got everything/I’ll mourn for a kid but won’t cry for a king.’”
“Promise me this/if I lose to myself/you won’t mourn a day/and you’ll move on to someone else”
“To life they were dedicated/now that should be celebrated”

Album Review
Dark Sun by Dayseeker
Tumblr media
If I were to keep this review short, I would simply say that Dark Sun has to be Dayseeker’s best work yet. This album comes from an obviously very emotional place. A place of grief and trauma, and Rory captures these feelings so well in his lyrics and his delivery. All this done on the top of distorted guitars, gentle pianos, gentle electronic touches, and atmospheric synths taking you to a dance floor to let all emotions out.
Crying While Your Dancing, while being one of the albums stand out tracks, feels like the albums major theme. Neon Grave, Midnight Eternal, Crying While your Dancing: all tracks that simultaneously capture that emotion of wanting to dance and wanting to curl up in a ball.
The stand out track on this album, however, simply captures all of the sadder half of this equation. Paper Heart. I honestly don’t think I could put in words all that I feel about this song. Anyone with depression, or anyone whose ever had to struggle can latch onto this song so easily. I’ll leave it to Rory to spell out the meaning of this song.
Tumblr media
Dark Sun beautifully begins heavy, pulling you in, and slowly eases down on the gas, so by the end, all that’s left is an emotional catharsis. Such an amazing album that I will go ahead and rank it:
10/10
Certainly an album of the year contender.
Thank you Dayseeker for an amazing journey.

Pierce the Veil - The Jaws of Life Tour
With a slammed house (of blues), the lights dimmed and the Destroy Boys came out. Alexia Roditis first hit the stage and turned up the energy. Destroy Boys reminded me of why bands were formed in the first place, to play music and have fun. There was no shortage of jamming out, nor a shortage of smiles. Even once Violet Mayugba dropped the guitar, Violet was all smiles while screaming into the mic. The Destroy Boys is a band that is taking over the scene and I’m pumped to see them soar to new heights.
If you’re looking for a band with some powerful vocals combined with heavy lyrics that move you emotionally, then search bo further than Dayseeker. The whole set was full of a feeling that’s difficult to describe. It moved me. When Rory began discussing how the song “Neon Graves” was about his father who passed from cancer, it really resonated with me. My father had also passed from brain cancer a few years back and the performance of the song gave me a new sense of peace about it. Needless to say, Dayseeker has been playing nonstop around the house and is especially perfect for late-night drives.
Dayseeker is a post-hardcore band from California that formed in 2012. Their sound reminded me of when rock meets a small amount of synth wave, but only in the best ways. Dayseeker definitely has a bright future ahead of them!
L.S. Dunes wasted no time coming out swinging. With being a supergroup comprised of members from the gnarliest bands of the early 2000s, Coheed and Cambria, Saosin/Circa Survive, Thursday, and My Chemical Romance, it’s no wonder why they’re a true supergroup. Anthony Greens’ energy was never-ending, I assume he drank some of Frank Iero’s Hallowed Grounds coffee from La Paisa Bonita Coffee before the show. He was bouncing left and right and never slowed down. If Frank wasn’t burning down the house shredding, then the other members were. It was nonstop action delivered by each band member and a true success story of why supergroups are called such. These veterans of the scene were one of the best bands that I’ve ever seen.
Although the bill was stacked full of talented acts for support, once Pierce the Veil took the stage, it was obvious that’s who the crowd was pumped to see. I honestly wasn’t sure if I was in the year 2023 anymore, because the crowds attire was that of 2005. Your MySpace top 8 would have been proud. It was pretty awesome seeing young faces dawn on the emo/scene kid styles of the Millennial youth. Kicking off the show with confetti cannons and CO2 blasts, Pierce the Veil wasted no time giving the fans what they wanted. High kicks, high jumps, and a sold-out crowd made an unforgettable night. Even after a few songs had played there was still a veil, or curtains, draped over half the stage until a mid-song pickup dropped them down revealing the band’s banner and unleashing a newfound excitement from the crowd!
Pierce the Veil is an American rock group that was formed in 2006. Their sound has been widely described as metalcore, scene, post-hardcore, and about everything else under the sun. Today, they are still jamming hard and don’t appear to slow down anytime soon with the remaining tour dates below and accompanying Blink 182 next year on tour as support.
Don’t forget to check out the rest of their tour at these remaining dates and locations!
