Summer Lovin’ - A Splatoon Selfship fanfiction 🍉💕

hi hi hi! this is my first ever (decent) fanfiction :] please tell me if there is anything i can improve on in my writing!

also, here’s a picture of my self-insert in case you don’t know what he looks like ^_^ (also he has an australian accent :p)

Condensation clung onto the sea-bunny’s hand as he made contact with the cold glass, filled with a mix of pineapple, watermelon and lychee juice. As the cool touch of the glass hit his lips, he lifted his arm and head to take a big swig of his cocktail, wiping his mouth with his arm afterwards with a big sigh. 

Big Man watched Carrot with lovesick eyes, adoring each and every cocky, yet comically dorky action the sea-bunny made. 

He and his husband were basking in the aftermath of Splatsville’s second Summer Nights event, two whole nights full of music, dancing, lights and turf wars. Some ink from turf war battles remained ingrained in the sand that surrounded their two beach towels. It was as the world wanted to clutch onto the excitement and joy that came from Summer Nights for a little while longer.

Staring into the vast night sky, Carrot smiled as he reminisced the event. The adrenaline which rushed through his veins much like pink ink spraying from his Splash-O-Matic Neo, watching his husband and his bandmates perform an endearing cover of their hit single, and of course, drinking to his heart’s content. Meanwhile, Big Man’s highlights were spending time with his friends, as much as he loved being on his lonesome. Seeing Shiver and Frye’s bright smiles as they poked fun at each other’s silly, fruit-themed outfits warmed his heart; he loved seeing his friends happy.

He also loved seeing his husband happy, too.

“You’re so cute.” The large manta ray muttered, watching his husband’s already flushed face flare up. Carrot put a hand to his face to hide the fact that Big Man’s subtle mumblings made him flustered; Big Man always got to him, no matter how hard he tried to pretend he didn’t. 

“No I’m not.” Carrot replied with fabricated iciness, initiating a playful back-and-forth.

“Yes you are.”

“No’m not…”

“Yes you are~!”

“I’m not!”

They continued suggesting and retorting until they burst into giggles, taking in their surroundings and warmth.

The ray had subconsciously wrapped his fin around Carrot adoringly, resting his head on the sea-bunny’s soft shoulder as the waves of the beach began lulling him to a state of tiredness, his prolonged inhales and exhales dragging Carrot into his sleepiness as well. 

Carrot took another sip from his drink as a little ‘slap in the face’ so he could free himself from his husband’s infectious sleepiness, abruptly standing up and brushing the sand off his butt afterwards. 

“We should probably get goin’ now.” Carrot stated reluctantly, folding his arms and looking at the moon that shone brightly in the sky. “‘s gettin’ pretty dark and you look pretty knackered.” He added, looking at his pouting husband who had clung to his leg with his supple fins. 

Looking at the sea and then back up to his beloved, Big Man let out a childish groan as he stood up and brushed off all the sand from his body, using his tail to wipe the back of his short, flat legs. “I guess we should…” He sighed, picking up both of their beach towels and giving them a shake before holding them in his tail. 

After leaving a trail footprints on the toasty beach sand, they finally arrived in their cool, comfortable home, free from the humidity of the outdoors. Despite the humid air lingering ever so slightly, the two were closely cuddled up on their broad, shared bed. Skin was stuck together, but not uncomfortably. Their intimate cuddling position was perfect for a scorching summers night in Splatsville, Big Man had his flexible pectoral fins loosely wrapped around Carrot, tight enough for the small sea-bunny to be close to him, but also allow for breathability within their proxemics. 

The manta ray adored his husband’s groggy face. His white, fluffy cheek was comfortably smooshed against Big Man’s fin, and his purpley-pink *rhinophores were beginning to droop over his face - sickeningly adorable. Carrot’s **eyelids began to grow heavy, his tiredness warping and blurring Big Man’s handsome face. Letting out a final yawn before succumbing to the land of vivid, tipsy dreams, an “I love you” subconsciously escaped his lips, his husband replying “I love you more” before following him to a sweet, summer slumber.

What are your Agents main weapons?

YES YES YES FUCK YES I LOVE THE WEAPON QUESTIONS

Agent 3 - Dynamo roller/E-liter. Three is better at rollers and chargers, shooters aren’t really his strongest class. When younger used to play more weapons like octobrush, carbon roller and cherry h3 nozzlenose. Three has very good upper body strength and solid mass, so using the Dynamo isn’t a struggle for him at all. (I like to headcanon that using a Dynamo can require being being heavy and fit enough to get anything out of the weapon).

Agent 4 - A lot of shooters + dualies and brellas. Four is more used to shooters, most used being splash-o-matic, n-zap and potentially the squeezer. Four likes to use dualie squelchers and tetra dualies, and he sometimes plays the splat brella just for fun. Three tried to teach him how to use the dynamo but Four likes to stick to more fast pace combat. Doesn’t really like the semi-automatics much though.

Agent 8 - Hydra Splatling/Ballpoint splatling. Eight always enjoyed getting a splatling weapon on a station, he liked having the range of a charger but not have to aim too precisely. Fun fact: when 8 was an octarian soldier he was in a group of splatling users. By now, Eight is very good with his movement, I like to think that splatlings take some time learning to properly move with the weapon.

Neo agent 3 - Out of not being able to stick to a weapon for too long he doesn’t really have mains. But, his most used weapons include blasters, Neo isnt the type of guy to have good aim, so he’s that one blaster main that mains the weapon because their aim is mid and just rely on the blast radius. Neo prefers the vanilla blaster, but sometimes uses the rapid ones.

Interesting bonus facts:

3 and 4’s mains are actually based on their games’ metas. Four is a shooter main because splatoon 2’s most dominant class are shooters, and Three mains E-liter and Dynamo as they were quite famous and threatening back then

Three uses E-liter 3k, not 4k

Three can fight pretty good up close even with an e-liter

Eight has a goal of 5starring all splatlings

Four started using brella after becoming an agent

Neo likes to play the same weapon as Three whenever they play together. Unfortunately he is tall, but not very strong, so he can’t exactly keep up with a Dynamo

Three and Eight like to swap weapons for fun

Eight tells Four things he remembers from an octarian army, like certain techniques and how some weapons are different from the ones on the surface

Location of Boss battle: A colorless Octo Valley, the place where the storymode of splatoon 1 took place.

Normally you’d be 8 but, now you’re 3 as you now play as Kamau the captain of the new new squidbeak splatoon wearing a colorless but, tweaked version of his old agent uniform but, still bared his captain hat and main weapon now tasked with the objective to take down 8 taken over by bleached coral sticking out the side of her head.

The boss battle has 5 phases against 8 with her using two of the six maxed out power chips in each phase. Which includes Power, Range, Mobility, Drone , Support & Lucky.

During the fifth phase 8 is slower since she has progressively gotten tired out trying to use different chip combinations to help. The end of the fight finally getting the coral off her face though it left a mark it was a victory.

Extra Fun Fact!- Since the boss battle takes place in the digital version of octo valley after every phase the background always changed to a different area when 8 super jumps to the boss kettle of that respective area

And when you finally defeat her it goes back to the Octo Valley. The music of the boss fight is probably like distorted remixes of the splat 1 bosses, boss music

Some random info about my take on beta/octo Pearl, Opal:

28 years old

She's a glowing sucker octopus-type octoling (mentioned this in the tags for the post with her art on it); her hair and fingertips glow in the dark in humanoid form (sorta like Acht during the credits for Side Order, which is why I headcanon Acht as a glowing sucker octopus-type octoling) and her entire body glows in octopus form.

Opal simply uses her last name, Faux, as her stage name, as people keep comparing her to Pearl (ergo why I named her Opal Faux). These constant comparisons has lead Opal to try to top Off the Hook's music, only to come up a bit short.

Her music tends to revolve around themes of cheating, love, breakups, and making out. All of Opal's music are from the pop genre.

She tends to just stick to turf wars and tableturf.

Her main weapons are Splash-o-Matic and Splash-o-Matic Neo.

hello! am ranked battle struggler. any specific advice for neo splash-o-matic/heavy splatling? any help is v appreciated:)

Woah two very different weapons I see! Both good choices for ranked battles tho.

Neo splash:

this weapon paints super well and is very fast! Make sure you're always painting the map in areas where your team wants to be. As tempting as it is to fight people, paint is super important for your teammates to be able to move around and do what they need to do, so as a neo splash it's good to focus on supporting them. It makes so much of a difference, trust me

If you get into a fight with this weapon, remember that you're very fast and usually faster than the opponent. move around a lot (both running and swimming) and play around cover so it's harder for your opponent to hit you. Make sure to paint the area around them so its harder for them to move then go for the kill when the moment comes!!

Sub: suction bomb is great for keeping enemies out of an area since it lasts for a while and is very threatening and has a big explosion radius. Throw it where the enemy is trying to go to slow them down, and throw it to clear enemies out of areas you want to gain control over! When your team is down on members you can throw suction bombs from a safe distance at the enemy (most importantly where they're trying to push through) and stay alive while your teammates respawn! Very very useful sub weapon, one of the best in the game

Tri strike: really good for cleaning out an area your team wants to move into since it forces people out of a lot of space and paints it so your team can move in quickly. Throw these where your teammates are trying to go! You can also use them to push the enemy away on defense, but they're more helpful on the offensive. Try to use these while all 4 players on your team are alive so people can play off of the space they make - if no one is able to move in with the strikes it's usually a waste of them (not always but usually)

Heavy splatling:

I'll be honest I don't play tons of backlines and am not the greatest at splatlings. My advice is pretty basic but very key: remember that you don't always have to be killing someone. (Maybe you know this already but many players I've coached don't so I figured I'd say this anyway)

As a backline your presence on the map creates a lot of space the enemy can't move through. Take positions where you can see a lot of people and are behind your other frontliner teammates. Try and be active and painting most of the time, it makes a huge difference. The splatling player for my team says half his kills are just people running into his shots because they got within his range, you don't have to be going for the kill all the time to get them!

As a backline you're also responsible for giving jumps back in to your team since you are usually a safe place to jump to being further from the action. When your teammates go down make sure to stay alive and give them jumps back in before you start fighting again!

That's all my advice for now - sorry if it was a lot. There's probably even more I could say I could talk about it forever, but this is the most important stuff.

you know i think the worst kit in all of splatoon 3 is the neo splash-o-matic

not because it's bad. it's far from bad! it's the same kit as the tentatek! of course it's good

...

it's the same kit as the tentatek. like, yeah it has suction instead of splat bomb, but like. it's the same kit. they do the same things. they just do them slightly differently.

i feel like one's just always going to be better than the other, and it's always going to be the one that spams triple inkstrike more.

this is such an astronomical failure of kit design imo. such a simple thing. you could fix this by giving it any other special or sub. how do you do this

so listen theres no real BIG plot here, again its still very slice-of-life, very "mostly here for the interactions and happy life stuff", so think of it a bit like a sports anime or smth!

Full Spectrum (FS) is Ozpin's League Team, with James, Glynda, and Leo as his teammates.

Stark Damage (SD) is Summer's League Team and is made of herself, Tai, Qrow, and Raven

Stark Damage are very new to the Anarchy Battle scene. this is Summer's first official team and shes unfortunately paired with two ex-teen soldiers (Octarian military stuff if you know you know) and Tai :) who is VERY new to all this Turf War stuff. hes just here to be stupid and cute and we respect it but its not very helpful on the field

Ozpin and Summer have a bit of a rivalry goin, tho its mostly one-sided in Summer taking a bit too seriously while Ozpin just thinks its very friendly and casual. just a bit of bickering between leaders :)

Ozpin comes from a LONG line of League Battlers, starting with great great grandpa Ozma and participating in the first official Turf War over who'd get the land all those years ago, so hes got a bit of an expectation to live up to. hes the highest rank on his team and gets very into his role during battle, be it Turf or Ranked. he takes it a lil seriously when hes got his scope ;>.>

Meanwhile, Qrow and Raven were members of the Octarian Army before hearing that ✨ heavenly melody ✨so all this normal living and "fun" battling is still very new to them. they both sorta make up for Tai's terrible kill rate, but Raven's usually playing hunter while Qrow's picking off whatever she leaves behind

however it does explain why Qrow knows how to repair so many weapons, so he and Summer get along well after learning the shared interest in weaponry :) (this doesnt get him out of a scolding for repairing Ozpin's e-liter for free tho)
