I'm dusting off this (very, very old) blog because I've been obsessing over royai literally the last 2 months straight and I need to scream about them into the void somewhere. I've been a fan since like... 2007/8? Kind of forgot about it for a while. then rewatched fmab with my husband and was like. "ohhhh nooooo". You know a ship is good when you loved them at 17, and now you're 32 and it's still hits. 💖 So come hang out with me if you like fma, royai, or Mustang and Hawkeye! 😉 i'll be posting some fanfics soon as well! The more I think about Reiko and his relationship he has with General Shao, the more sad I get.

Theory time:

When we're first introduced to Reiko, we are told that he was orphaned during a war, that Shao took him in and raised him to his image - someone who loves war and fighting - the things that took Reiko's parents.

Shao's father put him trough a program to mold him into a perfect soldier and Shao molded Reiko into the perfect soldier well reserved in the ways if war - repeated cycle.

And Reiko doesn't even realize what he was roped into (case and point neither does Shao), that he was robbed of his childhood for good, just like Shao.

Reiko is so loyal to Shao because (we can poke fun at it all we want) this is a traumatized child, who clings to the only father figure that he has after losing his parents. He will follow his father figure, no matter where, because he will not lose him again.

And perhaps, Reiko is forcing himself to love what took his parents, what made him an orphan because it is what General Shao loves(I'm saying if because of how much Reiko blabbers about it)

Which makes Reiko quite the tragic character if you think about it.

what really fuckin does it for me about zac oyama’s killer fucking roles in the last stand is that PRIOR to this fight, and this whole season if we’re being real, his luck? honestly mid as shit.

his BEST nat 20 moment that most people remember is as lapin with sir keradin which happened FOUR FUCKING YEARS AGO (longer actually bc thats when the season aired not when they filmed it).

some updates:

- I finished my big bang fic at like 9pm last night. I'm pretty happy with it, but it's also crazy long, so I had to rush some of the editing at the end. After it's posted on Oct. 3rd I may go back and re-edit it at some point, but not for a looooong time because I've literally looked at that thing for nine straight months lmao. 🙃 that fic was literally my magnum opus.

me, before I started writing: *calculates the minimum word count of each chapter, worried I won't be able to reach 100k, excessively plans out all the outlines for each chapter*

me, now:

like... it's a monstrosity. 💀 I wrote ~400 pages in nine months. what the actual fuck. super crazy, but it's doneeee! ✨️😌

- I started a new job today (very conveniently, the day after the due date of the big bang). It's actually related to my degree, full time, and I get to SIT all day - it's amazing (and it's better pay than my previous, shitty retail job). The people there are really nice and I'm really excited, and I feel like stuff is clicking into place now, kind of??? Writing overcome honestly got me through a pretty shitty time in my life, and it's weird that I submitted it the day before I started the new job. spooky. anyway.

- I was really busy in July, and then August was me writing/editing like a mad woman, so I wasn't on here much. However, I'm going to start promoting my big bang fic for October 3rd, and thus posting snippets for wip wednesdays again (especially now that I have a more normally work schedule and will actually know when wednesday is! 🎉)

- really excited to write other stuff now that my other massive fic is done! I definitely have some new stuff cooking in my brain that I'll start working on soon. 🍳

Let me theorize a wee bit:

As far as I've seen in the Story Mode, your opponents have no problems getting up, although they are in pain - they get up with some difficulty or none at all - unless they are knocked out cold or k*lled.

Then there's Shao.

He looks to be in pain to the point he grunts in pain and seems to be unable to move until Raiden comes over and wants to assist him - even after Shao rejects Raiden's help and Liu Kang comes to congratulate Raiden, he still sits there. One would think such a prideful general would want to get away as soon as possible but no. He continues to sit there.

I rematched the scene for the sake of this:

Once defeated, Shao sits on the ground and moves in such a way that it psychically hurts, positions his arm in such a way that it looks like he wants to hold his head but gives up and it falls on his knee.

We all know that Shao was a sickly child and that his father ignored Shao's physician and put him on a program that would make him into the soldier he is now.

But I got the feeling that it had long terms effects on Shao as mentioned above - perhaps if he overexerts himself, he is in so much pain to the point he can't move and perhaps even gets headaches - which can lead to quick irritation and anger.

I also think Shao despises his father a bit, perhaps for his views or treatment of him, I don't know but when Sindel mentions Shao's father, he makes this face:

It gave him the ick.

god i know this is an unpopular opinion but i wish mike flanagan had just made his stupid show and called it something else. i hate that people associate the haunting of hill house with that show, and i’m not even saying that i think the show is bad. i don’t think it’s poorly made but it’s just not….the haunting of hill house. it rearranges the characters it strips so many of them of their personalities it just fundamentally changes so many crucial aspects of the story! and shirley jackson was a genius she was a major voice that informed the horror genre we know today and it’s so bizarre to me that someone took her story, rearranged it into something barely recognizable, and still used her title. and now it’s what people think of when they think of hill house and mike flanagan goes on documentaries and says stuff like “when i created the haunting of hill house” and he has a character named shirley but she isn’t even the one who wrote the titular novel within his show, they gave that to a man, and i hate it. i hate it so much. just make your thing and say it’s inspired by the haunting of hill house fuck me
