I took these pictures myself. some are old, some were just poorly handled over the years, and all were thrifted across the second-hand stores of Dublin.
favourite thing in the world is when the pages of a book go all soft and yellowy and the edges are slightly fuzzy and rounded. these books couldn’t give you a papercut if you tried they’ve been loved too much. they love you too much

“The library in summer is the most wonderful thing because there you get books on any subject and read them each for only as long as they hold your interest, abandoning any that don't, halfway or a quarter of the way through if you like, and store up all that knowledge in the happy corners of your mind for your own self and not to show off how much you know or spit it back at your teacher on a test paper.” ― Polly Horvath, My One Hundred Adventures

With August comes the end of summer and the beginning of autumn, what better way to celebrate the change in seasons than to set this month's 'to be read list' with books that look like the green summer but reflect the cold autumn.
Monster, She Wrote by Lisa Kröger & Melanie R. Anderson. Tess of the d'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy. Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin.

“I love them, they are so nice and selfish. Dogs are TOO good and unselfish. They make me feel uncomfortable. But cats are gloriously human.” ― from Anne of the Island by L.M. Montgomery.

I reblog bookish content and since I have a home library I also make some of it myself. On my blog, you'll find pictures of books I've taken, book reviews, book recs, favourite quotes shared etc.

When you are organising your books you may encounter the curious behaviour of cats.
Books and cats are two complementary beauties.

Bag full of backwards Penguin Classics.
These books that I have thrifted come with various peculiarities that give them character. Some have sunburnt pages that leave them brittle and orange while others are waterlogged along the edges leaving the pages wavy, some are heavily annotated with highlighters and different coloured pens while others are lightly annotated with a pencil, some have cracked spines and others have never been opened before, some have pages that have been heavily dog eared, some come with a personal inscription on the first page and others come with a postcard or letter between its pages, some have coffees ring stains and others have foxing marks.

A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan
There’s no wifi for the two days it takes the ferry to go from Ireland to Spain so I got to spend hours of uninterrupted reading time with one of Lady Trent’s Memoirs.

“When I got to the library I came to a standstill, - ah, the dear room, what happy times I have spent in it rummaging amongst the books, making plans for my garden, building castles in the air, writing, dreaming, doing nothing.” ― from Elizabeth and Her German Garden by Elizabeth von Arnim.

“Book collecting is an obsession, an occupation, a disease, an addiction, a fascination, an absurdity, a fate. It is not a hobby. Those who do it must do it.”
