at least in terms of what they do for others: i love the idea that shuichi+all the protags are gift givers because that's just what they do in the games to make friends hehe (and i wanted to draw a bunch of kaede's favorite monomono machine gifts bc they're such a fun character insight) and kaede's love language is touch!!!! shoutout to tox and i think shuichi likes words of affirmation and kaede likes quality time (which they will both give each other)

i have drawn ethan with a full back tattoo of a sword and scales! i think out of the whole TA he would be the one with the most tattoos just because that fateful taking of his eye (as well as his general outlook on life) would make him more... blasé? libertine? about his body specifically wrt the damage it takes. hand in hand with that, i've been on a catholic!ethan kick lately, so it's all about the "suffering has a purpose" mindset. he could also have a bible verse scrawled down his forearm. maybe the kanji of nakamura on his upper arm, too

luke would probably be the competitor for most tattoos in the TA bec i suppose hes just a rebel like that lol. i'd say a very smoky, minimalist tattoo of thalia's pine over his heart, then he might also have something of the cyclops (an eye) over his fist just to remind him what his wrath is for. he also def has at least one greek letter/language/symbol tattoo somewhere on him because his divine heritage drives a lot of life decisions he makes lol but i just cant think of what specifically right now. and finally ... maybe a tramp stamp. /hj

chris definitely also has tattoos, but probably just the one or two. i'd love for him to have a beautiful intricate maze tattoo on his shoulder just as like a symbol of him having overcome his insanity during his time in the labyrinth. i also like to think that if he and clarisse ever made a lifelong commitment (idt they get married, theyre not conventional like that), they get matching ring or wrist tattoos <3

silena i think is an indecisive girly SHJDSHKJSHD this is partly taken from her inconsistent appearances in the books (though we know thats because rick is ass at continuity and doesnt have a series bible) but in general i just think she changes up her appearances a lot, so she'd be apprehensive to get something as permanent as a tattoo. i could see her doing temporary tattoos though, like those cutesy little hearts across the collarbone like a necklace, and little sparkly wings and betty boop dotting her body. she'd also be probably into face paint you know the ones you see from birthday parties 🥰 if you hc her as south asian like i do, i could also see her and other aphrodite kids practicing henna on themselves and each other, since the patterns have a lot of cultural meaning and just look gorgeous and intricate in general!

alabaster im super torn between him being clean cut and having tattoos JAHJAJAKAKS because on one hand magic users with magic tattoos = absolute baller concept (say what you want about the shadowhunter chronicles but the aesthetic is peak im afraid), and on the other, i think it's also fun if al just draws on himself what he needs at the moment, so he always leaves himself as a blank canvas. either way though, most if not all his tattoos would be for magic utility purposes, though i could also see him getting a tattoo of his deceased siblings' and friends' names... i also think that he'd make a habit of Misting his tattoos invisible more often than not if they were permanent, just to keep a more lowkey profile.

- tsukasa is like. the one of maybe two openly gay people in your highschool and Knew early on that he only liked guys, where as akito i could see as either gay or bi, but tbf i dont think he gives a shit #marriedtothegrind

- everyone hears about the relationship from tsukasa but Noone believes it, it takes akito accidentally mentioning them going on a date for the rest of their friends to be like. wait for REAL? the news spreads like wildfire

- akito fell first and fell hard. cringe! tsukasa probably heard someone homophobic-ly joke about them dating after they kept having lunch together and was like "HAH HAH HAH thats crazy.... or is it...?"

- it takes them a while to get used to being a bit more up close and personal with it, but once they do they tend to give and take affection pretty equally - tsukasa tends to sprawl when they nap together so does that make him the big spoon...?

- every day akito wakes up to like three paragraphs of a good morning text and it makes him simultaneously shrivel up and also kick his legs n blush n shit. an sees one of the texts and makes fun of him for like a week straight

- tsukasa goes all in on the crazy romantic gestures both because he believes akito deserves the princely treatment but also feels like hes Supposed to do that in a relationship a la plays and musicals - he eventually settles and gets more comfortable with the idea of a everyday romance and enjoys it even more (still does crazy bs sometimes for funsies tho!)

- hc that tsukasa had like a 1 week (okay maybe like 5 days) long middle school relationship, probably in the middle of his gay realisation too lol. hes also kissed before, though only on stage. hes probably (platonically, Professionally) kissed almost everyone in wansho except nene lol

- akito tho, he honestly wouldntve even bothered with dating bc he was too busy Attaining His Goals tm. only now when hes more secure in his place in vbs does he think about it so hes still a bit behind, but honestly, not by much when compared to tsukasa

- i think the flood gates would open for akito (in terms of falling first) when tsukasa would talk about saki in response to akito mentioning ena, talking about his role as a big brother and how ena would feel the same way. as annoying akito thinks tsukasa is, tsukasa talking genuinely about something like this would probably strike a chord with him

- a lot of people (read: classmates, ppl who dont know tsukasa especially) thought they wouldnt really last very long - they only saw their loud silly antics and boke/tsukomi dynamic but they probably last for a good while. they end up having a very strong understanding of eachother and are both fiercely motivated and know what its like to have their goals feel unattainable. eventually akito starts getting what touya meant whenever he'd talk about tsukasa when they were kids, much to his dismay

- though, at some point i think they Do break up for practical reasons. honestly its the hardest for kohane to deal with because shes like. can i still go to pxl and watch him perform or do i have to be a Bro for akito

even though im very happy to be sharing them im also very nervous aswell. i was rlly overthinking my hcs how to word them, which ones to add cuz there are a lot of micro ones, throughout my time writing this, hence why it took me so long to respond. however i think its just best to kinda bite the bullet cuz youll never know how ppl will feel ab them if u dont talk ab them.

tried to keep these hcs more generalized and keep some of the more basic ones, alongside throwing in some more fun ones. any details or other hcs that arent here will prob show up in future content

Trans! (love how this is a universal hc in the fandom lmao) he/him

Dyslexic, Stompin' Bob is mainly the one who lends him a helping hand when he's having a hard time

When he's stressed or nervous he'll pick at the feathers on his flippers (kinda like picking at nails/skin)

He can be very self conscious about his appearance/body (this was especially heavy during his first years in the band). Ofc his bandmates and Cadence are always there to reassure him and comfort him whenever it bothers him

so sorry for send like 4 asks but i have Thoughts. so many thoughts (this one is a little sad but sappy)

thinking rn about current era ybctrick (thinking he has his hand but its like frankenstein-ed on him, stitches and everything, so in his brain it doesnt feel real [issue] and its cold like its dead but obv it isnt), and the rest of polyfob have pretty much healed from their traumas but they all have bad days, esp when the demon side of ybctrick comes out

i have my own hcs that the demon takes on a more protective/"these are my mates, i cant hurt them" role in patricks brain after the vixens have been disbanded (bc what else was he, if not a guard dog for them?), but his overprotective natures can srsly conflict with joes fears and andys standoffish nature when it comes to being cornered and crowded by their bear of a bf, just in a different headspace

like for example, i think the demon side of ybctrick is more in tune to body language and whatnot and can like... smell their emotions basically, like hormone releases in their sweat when theyre nervous, scared, stressed, etc (fun fact stress sweat smells different than normal sweat), so he can tell that hes making joe nervous when he grabs him rough by the waist but the demon doesnt know how to communicate that the guy joes conversing with is setting off all the bad alarms in his head so he just stands there and glares with those yellow eyes and teeth slightly bared and it freaks joe out so bad he has to sit in his bunk alone for the rest of the day:((

i also think that andy is the only one whos able to like. actually go head to head with the demon, strength wise, (playing off that one ybct ask that talked abt andy domming ybctrick w jete) and hes just always been kinda headstrong in general, which leads to a lot of andy wrestling demontricks hands off of him/demontrick to the floor (like scruffing him basically) and telling him to back tf off, he can handle his own (which has also led to andy fucking him abt it but thats another topic)

pete being the only one whos fully able to handle the fear he feels around ybctrick (years of therapy pre-ybc hallelujah) and realize that demontrick isnt scaring them on purpose, he just wants to protect his mates so bad:( yes waking up to those freakass glowing eyes at 2am crawling in your bunk is fucking terrifying but demontrick just wants to listen to his heartbeat and once its calmed back down to normal he lets him, petting his long hair until they both fall asleep again........and maybe pete wakes up to demontricks morning wood pressing on his thigh and those golden eyes looking at him like he just needs it So bad and who is pete to deny his mate some pleasure?? so he wraps a hand around him under his sweats and kisses him off, letting demontrick scrape his scruff alllll over the side of his neck to scent him while pete licks his fingers clean<3

and ofcourse polyfob (nix patrick) have a nice sitdown to explain what the Fuck is up with demontrick and that rejecting him like that isnt very good emotionally and they all need to work on handling their fears better/communicating ways to put demontrick down gently when theyre having a ptsd episode and cant handle him crowding them like that. then they all kiss and have nasty sex ok im DONE

Explanation: starting off of the parents I think that Tim would absolutely find you attractive and he would think that you’re one of the cutest people he saw all day. He would love your heart shaped face and love your curly hair with the red tips at the end and think that it made you stand out from other people, and I feel like his eyes would just be subtly on you as he walked by.  he’s also pretty short and I feel like it would be kind of a running joke between the both of you if you weren’t insecure about being short, of course. He’s not super clumsy, but he thinks the fact that you’re kind of a klutz is utterly hilarious and he will laugh at you a bit before helping you up with a smile. Explanation: starting off with physical attraction I think that Steve would be very attracted to you and think you’re extremely beautiful. He would love your heart shaped face and the way you look like some sort of animated character just popped right out of television and in front of him and he would think that your hair is super cool, but he would never tell that to you until you were way further in the relationship. Giann brainrot but hear me out

What if Giann was like really good at music? Maybe at playing an instrument (like the guitar, which Marius couldn’t bring himself to play because it reminded him of his mom) or singing or both idk.

Mama Von Hagen was very talented in both music and arts (this is canon), so what if each son took something from her??? Besides from Giann being (also canonly) more similar in personality to Ms Von Hagen while Marius is (in Austin’s words) “colder(!)” just as him

HELLO, I LOVE THISSSSS!!!! i need to know tho, where is that latter detail in canon about austin saying marius is colder omg, i havent seen it before and i Must know!

that aside tho, YESSSS, GIANN GOOD AT MUSIC. that is hugebrained idea, esp since canon doesnt really give us anything more on his character aside from "really great CEO during his term" and "marius loves him to BITS" and "protective shithead, i am always thinking about that flashback scene in SSR Will Of The Trees". so this hc adds nice flavor to the free real estate that is giann von hagen

i now like to think that giann deffo took up guitar. not as a “serious” venture but he just picked it up in his teens and got pretty good at it casually. and while hes no concert level vocalist, he sounds really great whenever he and marius went for a dumb karaoke hangout whereas marius just misses EVERY BEAT, GOES OFF EVERY KEY, it’s a genuinely fun time for both of em since karaoke isnt about sounding good, more just yelling into a microphone for the Vibes Of It All

another reason why i love this is cuz marius is shit at anything musical, canonically. twice now in current global cards (SR Overture, little scene in SSR In The Darkness) and here and there in official art (that one beach chibi? marius playing the guitar and the notes are viSIBLY SHAKY LMAOOOOOO), this dude cannot do anything musical

but he keeps trying anyway.

at first, i chalked it up to marius' tendency to dive headfirst into anything, even stuff he isnt good at, because effort and intention matters!! which i still think is true but i got another layer added when i remembered SR Twilight Beauty. theres this bit in there where marius is trying to understand his mom's musical compositions, trying to Truly Grasp how it felt like creating that music in the moment, trying to see how or what she was thinking when she had created her music

phrased a different way: marius does not understand music, but he tries to in order to understand someone who is no longer here

mama von hagen passed away shortly after marius’ birth, but i figure austin had told marius a bunch about her. her personality, what she loved to do, and maybe a hummed lullaby she’d always hum to put marius to sleep. marius cant remember melody of that lullaby coming from his mother herself, he was too young. so he just hums it himself based on how his dad told him it sounded like, going through the tune over and over again as a way to connect with someone he never got to truly meet. 

art is a lot about communication, and marius, of all people, would know that. i feel like trying to understand a person’s art to understand the person themselves is an avenue he’d gravitate to. he didnt get to meet his mother, but he can try to connect with her through what she left behind.

but shes not the only one whos gone now too

so marius often has a bunch of songs stuck in his head, and theyre not songs hes personally into. theyre giann’s go-to songs back in their dumb karaoke hangouts. marius will idly find himself humming them while working or painting and he doesnt let himself forget these tunes or the melody of the lullaby from his mom. because even if he hums off tune and cant manage to do anything musical one bit, music is a language his mom and giann used. 

for his mom, keeping her music in his mind is a calming way to stay connected to her even if he never got to meet her. 

for giann, memories of his singing is something that grounds marius in reality so that he doesnt ever give up on finding giann and bringing him back.

- you always steal his sweatpants even if they're like 4 sizes too big

- they're always a little worn and soft and smell like him

- slipping them on when you wake up and starting to make breakfast, dick will come out of your bedroom and his heart will melt on sight

- Wally is a jacket king, he's constantly in different colors and sizes and types of jackets but he is very attached to them and often won't let you steal them

- but there's a secret to the jacket lifestyle, the t-shirt he wears under said jackets

- the t-shirts are slightly worn and unbelievably soft and they smell so strongly of your lovely boyfriend theyre your all time favorite steal

- often they might have a little hole or stain so you'll wear them around casually or sleep in them

- he makes fun of you when you both go to bed because you walk straight to his closet to pick out a shirt

- it makes his heart melt seeing you wear his t-shirts while he's away on missions, and having his warm and comforting smell on you 24/7 makes you miss him a little bit less

- they're ginormous, soft, and beautiful

- the sleeves are way to long and when he sees you standing in one of his hoodies waiting for him after patrol he can't help but laugh

- gar's love languages are affection and giving so you always let him shower you in his clothes and cuddles

- this kid has at least 20 different colored shirts and you're pretty sure he wasn't even a baseball player, while he looks undeniably handsome you like to steal the shirts because of how soft they are

- he loves how the shoulders are too big and a little droopy, the sleeves are a little too long making you roll them up to your fore arm to get anything done, and he can feel his heart flutter noticing how you're always bunching up the material or trying to tuck it into your waistband

- this boy really goes through at least three a month if not more so he doesn't mind you snatching a few for your own closet

- he likes to grab on either side of the unzipped jacket and tug you into his embrace, his lips meeting yours while he toys with the fabric

- you take his jackets everywhere, he loves that you're rarely caught without one - he thinks it's adorable that you don't like to be without him

Literally all of it is gold. Fight me. I was going to write “especially [piece title]” but I LITERALLY CANNOT CHOOSE ONE. Your Bokuto nightmare piece. Your Kuroo angsty fight. Your Tendou dealing with S/O with parents who yell piece. Your Kinktobers. Your Futakuchi and Mattsun pieces. And your Terushima pieces. Ugh. I CANNOT CHOOSE. OH AND YOUR STREAMER KENMA!!!!!! OKay just… all of it. I can’t choose. I tried, and I failed, and I’m willing to admit failure.

What’s a story I’d love to see you write? I don’t want to say this… because it hurts me… but I just KNOW you’d write brilliant angst. Some of my fav pieces of yours are pained beginnings with happy endings. That fight with Tsukki after a bad day at work. The pieces I mentioned above (nightmare pieces and fighting pieces and angsty home life ha.. ha.ha.ha.). That Oikawa one where the reader wakes up in bed without him and thinks he left. You write these gorgeous atmospheres and descriptive, visceral feelings, and if you chose to use it for evil…. You could get evil shit done. You’re SO powerful. So I want to read it… but also…. I don’t. I’d love to see you write ABO like you mentioned a while back or just see you explore a cutesy soulmate AU or something. I think you’d be really good at writing an AU where you hear what the other person’s listening too. I feel like you’d be so good at making me feel something for someone who was in another city. (think this would be cute with Tsukki cos he’s headphones boy, OR terushima because I like the dynamic of someone flirty, who clearly cares about looks, falling for someone he can’t see) ANYWAY….

Favorite pairing you write for?/fav reader insert? Tsukishima x reader. It’s my fav self-ship. (but also Mattsun, Bokuto, Oikawa, Tanaka, and Akaashi because you write them SO WELL!!!!)

Have any of your stories helped me through a hard time? Of course. Your self-harm piece came at a time I needed it. Iwaizumi’s in particular saved my life. But also your Tendou dealing with S/O parents who fight… came right when I needed it. Also starting college… was hard.. And reading and rereading your fluff really pulled me through it.

Do I genuinely like your blog, it’s aesthetic or posts? It’s overall feel? It’s content? Yes. The aesthetic is, ngl, a wee bit basic. But I kinda love that. And the feel? It feels like home. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Your blog is my safe space. So, yes, I love. It’s content? YES. OF COURSE. Your personality probably could have kept me here even if your content was kinda shit, but I follow you RELIGIOUSLY because of your content. So yes. I adore.

Is English my first language? Kinda??? I grew up in a trilingual household so I kinda learned three languages at the same time while growing up. But no, I don’t need to translate it in my head. Because English was one of the three.

This isn’t a lov one but it’s really funny so I thought I’d put it out there:

-when bnha was first gaining traction on tumblr, it was all art of Tsuyu. I have no idea why. People were talking about the funky frog lesbian superhero anime. Maybe it was just the people I was following, maybe it was a general trend, but I LOVED her design!!! my fav color and frogs r super cute!!! And I already loved superhero media, so I was like. I’ll watch it. For Her. SO. FROPPY IS THE REASON I WATCHED/READ BNHA. I went in thinking she was the protag and I was sooo confused when Izuku was... tbh I still think it’d be more interesting if she was lmaooo aus where? ...seriously if anyone has good aus where this is the case send them LOL

-I don’t actually feel that bad abt what Shigaraki’s doing. I still feel bad for him. I’m this post. yes im an apologist. its not my fault hes sexy and has been running around shirtless. hes a lesbian icon like thor is. I want to touch his hair. hes never done anything wrong in his life. he could kill all might, deku, bakugo, whatever, I’d still be sayin this. I don’t feel bad for gt. like. was anyone genuinely attached to him? lmao

-well u know how spinner’s quirk is just sticking to things? We haven’t seen him use it in canon except like, (1) time iirc?? I think this is probably bc he’s embarrassed about it even in front of the league... I loooove the idea that he gets more comfortable with it around them :”) and also how shigaraki. um. does that falling asleep thing while standing up with his eyes open, canonly? (which I still love lmfao) Imagine someone in the league walking in a dark room, turning on the light n just seeing. Spinner upside down, stuck to the ceiling asleep bc heat rises and its Warmer Up There. (cold blooded thing like tsuyu?? come ON give him a big fuzzy coat and scarf...) and Shigaraki in the center of the room, slouched but still standing, eyes open and motionless. Theyre both sleeping. Whomever sees it just...slowly walks out. LMAO

-Toga roller derby au. No deep thoughts I just think she’d be good at it. 

-Toga 100% is a social butterfly and could befriend anyone if they didn’t just judge the fact she was trying to stab them smh :/ (ok but seriously anytime I see cute friendships with her n the other kids im like :) aw. I feel like her and Camie...would be good friends. Camie feels chill enough to be like ‘ok whatever thats totally fine I forgive you!!’ LMAO we love airheads here)

-HOW DID TOGA GET SO GOOD AT FIGHTING? We know she’s been on the run since middle school or so, but good enough to pin Deku down after he’s been formally trained at a ~hero school~ for a while? (she pinned him TWICE I think, once when his arms were messed up, but, the other time as Camie, so? AND THEN WAS ONE OF THE 100 PEOPLE TO GO THRU TO THE 2ND ROUND OF THAT? even tho she didn’t bc she had to leave) good enough to beat Aizawa in a fight and stab him? A professional hero and teacher for YEARS? Is that seriously just street training??? Can people acknowledge how amazing her combat skills and reflexes are??? More Toga appreciation when?? Also her backstory??? SO subversive and incredible, hate when people reduce her to just a ~typical anime yandere~ :/

-Tomura doing stuff with his hands/fingers to train his quirk!!! And to learn to be careful with it!! obv I’m a Big Fan of him playing piano to do this and video games are prob the canon answer, but like, guitar or any stringed instrument that requires Hands would work too. Or knitting/sewing? EMBROIDERING? ??? Please, let me give you the mental image of him knitting aggressively while mentally scheming, watching a twitch streamer or smth too while doing it. (Doing stuff with your hands is a great way to let your mind come up with creative stuff, that’s how I come up with writing/drawing ideas 70% of the time)

-Tomura actually PREFERS cutesty, relaxing games. I mean, he does fighting and bloody stuff irl, games are a way to relax...he’ll play shooters and gta type games with The Lads, but. on his own?? animal crossing. pokemon. kirby games. mario. zelda. BIG ZELDA FAN (not saying this bc I, personally, am biased, but,) slime rancher, stardew valley, funny simulator games... he really enjoys those :”) God forbid he has a kid bc they’re 100% getting named after a viddy game character unless someone can talk him out of it LOL. Toga and Tomura are that animal crossing /doom meme where she’d be asking for doom and him asking for animal crossing :”)

-Bits and pieces of Before are kinda stuck in Kurogiri’s brain, but like. mostly useless stuff the doctor didn’t care about removing. Like, types of clouds. So Tomura kinda picks up on stuff like that. He can just look at clouds and tell you what type they are because Kurogiri used to take him up to high places in the city and point them out to calm Tomura down from a panic attack when he was younger. He can tell you if the sky looks like it’ll rain with a 80% accuracy rate too. 

-Kurogiri left food out for kitties in the alley beside the bar. They weren’t allowed in for Health Reasons (it IS a bar with sanitation standards!!) And Tomura really wouldn’t stop it or encourage it either way so long as Kurogiri did his job, but occasionally would stand outside with Kurogiri and just watch the kitties from a distance. If any approached he’d go back in (lowkey afraid he’d hurt them by touching them :( ) They kinda kept that between them tho, bc they both Know AFO is a big bag of dicks and no fun

-people have pointed out how similar aizawa and tomura look. this was 100% the intention. tomura has a hatecrush on him. THIS IS SO FUNNY AND HORRIBLY AWKWARD FOR KUROGIRI LMAO

-Sako??? Mr. Dramatic?? Opera fan. Drama kid. Like, obviously, but. Really. He is. I feel like he can speak a dozen languages. I also feel like he used to be an overachiever but got too ambitious. He was def some kind of leader at one point of a diff Group or something that fell apart. I LOVE how creative he is with his quirk and the magician theme??? incredible. I don’t show him enough love but I Love Clowns :o)

-I don’t care what their canon heights are. Spinner and Dabi? short kings. My height hcs are (tallest to shortest) Kurogiri, Twice, Sako (who also has heels on his boots and a tall hat, keep in mind), Tomura, Magne (Tomura and Magne are about the same height imo) Toga, Spinner, Dabi. LISTEN. Dabi has short energy. Sorry. it’s true tho

-This is a semi-popular hc I think bc I KNOW I’ve seen it before, but Dabi having Terrible Vision and needing glasses is so so good. (seriously, with burns THAT close to his eyeballs, how could he not?) 

-he tries to be a tough loner coolguy. you’d think he’d smoke, but I hc his ‘weak constitution’ comes with weak lungs (esp from years of a flame quirk?? inhaling smoke over so much time is SO bad for you, most people who die in fires actually die of smoke inhalation...) so he’s got like, an inhaler, can’t smoke, actually gets carsick, needs glasses, overuses quirk to save friends constantly, likes napping, a little awkward and rude. Tomura put him in charge of the vanguard so he’s smart, and good with strategies too, like a nerd. this is the Dabi I wanna see, not the popular fandom version of him tbh also step on hawks one more time sir :”)

-I wish all the lov fics weren’t?? villain!deku like I said earlier, but also, chatfics? I have nothing against them but most of them are just a bombardment of Memes with NO PLOT!!! Listen. text/chatfics CAN have plot and be an interesting way to tell a story. I almost want to write one just to show what I mean...

I know I’ve said I like spinaraki and blackmagic, but I am a multishipper, so a few ships I don’t talk about that I like that involve the lov in some way:

-toga/any of the 1A girls??? or Camie??? super interesting. ALSO in the radio drama, bakugo’s voice actor said Toga was his favorite girl??? so?? bakugo/toga ?? I WANT TO SEE IT. but specifically my fav dynamic with her is when someone ELSE is the one to like her first, it’s what she deserves.

-Kurogiri/aizawa/mic?? any variety of that is also 👌🏻 I also kinda wanna see kurogiri/all might bc. Dads. COME ON. they bond over ‘well, I raised him, and you want to have a part in his life now?? ok. earn it. prove it. I’ll screen you first’ or something LMAO they’re both genuinely concerned for the boy, and SOOO biased. let them bond.

-I’ve also seen shiganatsu and shigafuyu and I’m like. these are cute, but also Dabi’s reaction always makes me cry laugh. so good.

-MOST EVERYONE IN THE LOV IS LGBTQA+!!! heres my personal headcanons:

Toga: pan or bi (CANON BASICALLY)

Magne: transwoman (CANON BABEY) bi, leans towards men. (her crush on dabi in bnha smash... uwu content where)

Shuichi: gets sooooo flustered canonly, I think he’d go for the first person Who Hit On Him (I can see him being the target of those mean pranks where someone says ‘my friend likes you!!’ and the friend is like ‘eww!!’ :(((( ) he’s super hesitant for romance, lots of repressed stuff. gay but takes sooo long to realize it bc he thinks most women are conventionally pretty Aesthethically, feels obligated to Like Them, but has bad self esteem so never goes after them, then only likes (1) guy so hes like?? is this allowed?? is this allowed???? (HES LIKE. IN LOVE WITH SHIGARAKI)

Dabi: bi but rly hasn’t ever gotten to date anyone, so he’s actually more reserved about it and while he’ll tease, he absolutely is absent and kinda oblivious (again, I KNOWWWW bnha smash isnt canon, but. my god. when magne is hitting on him and he Just Doesnt Understand.) also hes ace

Tomura: doesn’t care. (just prob says ‘its whatever’) trans/nonbinary (i’M NOT PROJECTING, BUT. :’/) probably goes with like, the label queer if any but doesn’t care much for labels

Kurogiri: bi??? kind of??? I say kind of bc well, I hc U Know Whom as bi, I feel like thatd carry over but he’d be really avoidant to date anyone bc hes gotta Watch His Kid u know? this is gonna sound surprising but I think he’d be the type to be like ‘ok we can have a one night stand/fling BUT it cant get personal bc I have a Job to Do for my Son so don’t get up in your feelings’ and act a little coldly at first or very ..not personable... depending on who it was he’d prob turn around eventually, esp if that person valued his feelings/job :”)

mmmh usually i just crank out a random meta when i feel like it, which i havent had the energy to do in a while. so have a lot of hcs about gem language, gem society and how it resembles a totalitarian system cause why not, this is already a dystopia.

Gem Vocabulary

gems have no gender, they dont age, they dont reproduce. the whole vocabulary about relationships, aging and sex must be completely different in gem language. they probably lack a lot of words we commonly use, and have unique words for things we dont have (like winter duty, patrol duty... i wouldnt be surprised if gem language had unique grammatical features for those)

this is one of the reasons why its so unfair of aechmea to call cairn ‘wife’ and ‘princess.’ the gems have no concept of wife-ness, we dont know if a gem equivalent of marriage exists, but its definitely much, much different from what the lunarians (and us) perceive as one.

do gems have anything akin coming of age? this could be weird bc gems can potentially live forever, but they can also be abducted by the lunarians at any time, so who’s to say how long a lustrous will live? how do you calculate being ‘of age’? is it by calculating the average life-span of a gem? 

how do they measure time and seasons? we know they have winter and summer and phos mentions ‘spring’ in chapter 20, but what about months and lunar phases? do they have words for that or are months just too small a timeframe for the immortal lustrous to utilize? how do they measure time? in hours and seconds? weeks? different units altogether?

Gem Relationships

similarly, gem relationships are codified in a completely different way. we know they have a concept of romance bc dia ships phos and shinsha and makes comments here and there about other gems being in love. 

at the same time, the relationships btw alexandrite and chrysoberyl, padpa and rutile, ghost/cairn and lapis etc are little different from ‘pure’ sibling/sibling relationships or senpai/kohai relationships.

this is not to say that they’re all romantic in nature, but the way they’re codified in canon (especially in the way the characters grief for their partner) makes me think that even if the gems have no blood/physical kinship with one another they have a very articulated system of establishing family bonds.

dia and bort are clearly siblings, but the same can’t be said, for example, for rutile and padpa, even if they were partners and even if they display a similar junior/senior relationship. this means that relationships are predicated on something else in hnk, and kinship, family and romance are all codified in a different way.

think of vulcans in star trek: physical contact such as two fingers touching, holding hands and kissing is unknown of (save for very specific circumstances). and vulcan people have a completely different way of expressing intimacy and romance than humans. 

this makes me think: just how many canonically romantic relationships are there in hnk (if any) that we’re simply unaware of bc the way gems codify and express romance is so different from ours? is romance even common? rare? perceived as weird? useless? 

what about other relationships? the gems use ‘little brother/ older brother’ but what if this is just japanese approximations? what kind of relationships can lustrous language really express and how different are they from ours?

Imagination

as @ruddy-rutile​ pointed out some time ago, the gems lack a concept of fantasy. thats why i posted that panel about alex’s original lunarian designs. sure, it’s funny, but it also makes you think: these gems are not raised to think outside the box and they can do it without being told so only under exceptional circumstances.

of the vast library of texts that ghost (and lapis) used to take care of, just how many are novels and fiction? none of them? a small amount? a decent amount? in a society thats as focused on practicality, efficiency and conservatism as the lustrous’, how is fiction perceived if perceived at all? 

is there art? red beryl’s craft comes very close to art when they express their feelings about ‘fashion for fashion’s sake,’ but it’s an exception that the other gems find hard to grasp.

phos is often told to stop fantasizing about the world and get things done, the only tale we know the gems are told is the actual story of how their world came to be. the gems always talk about real things, stuff that happened, and make and do things that have a practical use. 

even bort’s jellyfish diary is just made up of a recollection of what happened when they tried to feed them. still, the fact that bort names the jellyfish makes you think that these rocks do have potential for fantasy, theyre just not used to it

Totalitarianism and Privacy

to make this even more shady, here’s your gentle reminder that:

- gems’ rooms have no doors. the only door ive been able to find is the one in shinsha’s room (ch 2) and that is because shinsha’s room is closed off to other people and full of mercury. its like putting a patch on smth you dont want to deal with (much like shinsha’s whole character arc tbh)

- the gems have little to no free time. or their free time can be revoked any time in case an emergency occurs, sensei is napping etc. the gems’ time is rigorously managed by jade, euc and sensei. each gem has a place to be and a time to be.

this means that a missing gem can be found at all times and slackers can be identified very easily. they all have a job and they have to follow it. this is not to say that they have no fun ever, but leisure time is rare and (at least as far as we know) its not contemplated when tasks are assigned each day.

the mere fact that there is a morning assembly and tasks are assigned each day makes you think. is this communism? is this totalitarianism? but most importantly, is this a scary dystopia that hits you in the face like a brick the third time you reread ch 2?   

- sameness > equality. i already went over this in the past. gems society underlines sameness and conformity over anything else. the gems think theyre equal but theyre actually ‘similar.’

a system based on equality emphasizes differences so that every individual can do the best with what they have got and get back what they need, according to their personal needs. 

these gems emphasize sameness: everyone is upheld to the same standards, even when those standards dont match with a gem’s unique characteristics (ie phos cannot be a fighter, no reason to keep saying stuff like ‘if only you were stronger/you’re useless’ etc. they’re a rock with an imagination in a world where dull reality is the rule. just make them write theater plays and play with slugs with shinsha, wth)

It’s real 1984 hours:

all of the above means that:

- your sense of self is subordinated to the group. if you dont belong you’re simply a nothing. at times, the gems almost display a collective consciousness (a pretty hostile one too): everything must be decided together and done together

- you are what you do. gems identify completely with their job. thats why a job is so important, thats why this system is so fucked up. self worth is not inherent, it depends on what you can do. talk about a breeding ground for mental health issues 

- you dont have a saying in picking your career or deciding for you future. thats up to sensei (and maybe euc and jade). unless you have a very strong affinity with a certain task (like red beryl and alex)

- youre expected to follow orders all the damn time. no matter how much sensei wants his gems to exert free will, they still prefer to do what theyre told. ill admit, its much easier than taking your life in your hands and decide what youre gonna do with it, but damn if it isnt depressing. and childish

- euclase and sensei are the authority. sensei and euc are the powers that be. in the sense that they assign tasks, they decide on times and battle plans, on purpose etc. lets not forget that euc was the one to take on sensei’s role after he ‘resigned.’ 

i wonder what would happen if euc were abducted and the gems had no one to follow anymore, no orders. who’d be the new leader? would there be one? lets not forget that no matter how gentle euc is, phos is shit scared of them.

- thought police is a thing. to end this meta on what is probably the shadiest note: surveillance is a thing. the gems report on each other, it’s thought police, no sugarcoating this. 

there’s no privacy, no secrets. even antarc reads rutile’s diary. this goes from cute and childish (’you did this one wrong thing, im gonna tell sensei’) to absolutely fucked up (’you did this one wrong thing, im gonna tell sensei’)
