Henry (standing outside the suddenly burning building): hey Joe, can you and your brother get on a plane RIGHT FUCKING NOW?

I’m putting everyone in teams of two. Frank&Joe, Henry&Ned, Bess&George

F&J: handle Alexei & Brenda. Alexei loves Frank. The sentiment is returned. Brenda loves Joe. The sentiment is not returned

B&G: handle Toni. George is bad cop, Bess is good cop.

George is a pro at picking locks. Bess prefers rummaging through the back counter storage.

H&N: handle Deirdre. Although it’s mostly Ned doing the talking. They even go on a little date. Henry totally isn’t jealous. Iggy keeps him company.

Ned: I can’t get up there, it’s too high.

Henry: Ned Nickerson you are six foot two

Ned: I'll give you a boost.

Henry stopping by the police station to drop off Deirdre's fingerprint when he stumbles on Nancy and Frank talking through the evidence dropoff box like weirdos

After Nancy is out, Henry joins her to confront all of the suspects, but not before she asks him how it was working with Ned.

"Listen Nance, I… have to tell you something." Nancy nods, walking up the front porch steps of the Drew home. "I have a crush on Ned."

"And?"

"'And'? That's your ex!" Henry exclaims. Nancy shrugs, pushing open the door.

"I have… other priorities now," Nancy says carefully as Henry closes the door behind them.

"Nancy!" Frank leaps to his feet from the couch where he was sitting beside George. He gathers her in a big hug. Nancy gives Henry a raised eyebrow from where her nose and lips are buried in Frank's shoulder before her eyelids flutter closed contentedly.

Henry rolls his eyes, but can't help the relief that courses through him - Nancy's moved on.

Alexei greets Nancy with open arms. She and Henry make quick work of discovering the tunnels and Brenda's scheme.

Ned doesn't even bat an eye when Frank is the person Nancy goes to hug first after the case is solved. Ned also doesn't seem to mind that Henry immediately goes to him for a hug. (Nancy and Henry are not subtle.)

TMB:

Henry’s in Cairo doing a little solo vacay but he rides out on a camel the second Nancy calls him about Jon Boyle’s injury - the same caravan that Dylan happens to be with as well.

Henry refusing to hear Abdullah out and giving Lily the cold shoulder but absolutely destroying her at Senet

Dylan flirting with both Henry and Nancy… sometimes at the same time

Henry, watching Nancy leap across the columns: my best friend is a closeted American Ninja Warrior

Henry actually finds the tomb comforting and not eerie? He's familiar with the dead thanks to dear Uncle Bruno.

Henry can't stand Professor Hotchkiss' rambling phone calls but he excels at the puzzles hidden in the tomb.

DED:

Henry and Nancy sharing the bunk bed gives me summer camp vibes

Henry punching Gray on instinct when he startles them in the hallway.

Maybe I’m projecting but Henry doesn’t have a sciencey brain so Nancy handles most of the science stuff while Henry hands her parts or pieces or whatever and stands around saying “what the fuck”

GTH:

Nancy (to Savannah): What time is it?

Henry: wakes up in a cold sweat in the Nickerson guest bedroom with his mystery senses tingling

When Wade seems to threaten Nancy by stepping closer to her, Henry steps in front of her because Summer used to be confrontational like that and there’s no way Henry is letting someone treat his bestie that way

SPY:

I imagine this game going mostly the same except Henry is the one sneaking into Nancy's house and trying to help her figure out what happened to Kate. 

Henry does catch a flight to Ireland but struggles to catch up with Nancy. Henry's code name can be Raven bc that's adequately emo

MED:

Henry taps in instead of Bess but is just about as thrilled about it as Bess was ("I'm going to die here.")

Nancy asks Henry to talk to Sonny because he's been super cagey with her. Henry ends up trying to flirt his way around this and actually succeeds? 

Sonny invites Henry into the producer area and just as they're about to kiss Sonny is called away for show running stuff. Henry goes through his shit and gets the hell outta dodge

Nancy: how did you get into Sonny's tent?

Henry: I think I accidentally seduced him?

Nancy: :O

Henry: Don't act so surprised!

Nancy: Not surprised, just impressed.

Sonny has a soft spot for Henry after that but doesn't make it weird

LIE:

Henry’s phone was busted by Thanos, so he and Nancy are sharing. 

“I just wanted to tell you that I’ve always-” 

Henry glances over at Nancy, chatting with the Greek police, and quietly saves the message.

SEA:

Henry totally bonds with Soren and gets upset when Nancy suspects/accuses him of anything. Henry feels betrayed at the end by Soren, but asks Nancy to take mercy on him as she leaves the ultimate decision up to him.

Ned asks Nancy for permission to date Henry and she says yes:

“Nancy, I love you…”

“I’m not sure how I feel.”

“...as a friend.”

“Oh. Well, I love you too then!”

“Awesome. I wanted to know… would you be comfortable if I tried to date Henry?”

“I thought you’d never ask."

Henry and Nancy pooled their money to get Ned the sword. 

He loves it.

Upon their return to River Heights, Ned takes Henry on a date to the zoo.

Nancy & Henry Solving Mysteries: An Unfinished Timeline

My HCs for Henry joining Nancy in cases after cry. Features/alludes to my myriad of ships, possibly including: ned/henry, frank/nancy, deirdre/george, joe/sonny, frosty/chase. I might update this when more inspiration hits.

Henry totally crushed on Ned when they first met in college and he got a little irked and disappointed when he found out Ned had a girlfriend, so he tries to date Summer to get over it, which is why he kind of acts cold to Nancy when they first meet, because Ned literally sent her to his house lmao (courtesy of lauren)

HAU:

Nancy talking to Ned in the phone booth with Henry awkwardly hovering outside the phone booth because car-crashed banshee late-night the-weird-guy-in-the-den-with-the-bruise-kinda-flirted-with-me-and-idk-what-to-do-with-that separation anxiety

And Ned's being a weirdo because of the party side plot going on, only sounding interested/relaxed when Nancy mentions henry and how Iggy won't let go of Henry's neck due to being spooked in the crash, how Henry made friendship bracelets on the plane to calm his flying nerves, how thrilled Kyler is that nancy brought a plus one, etc

Nancy mentions Kit and Kyler's weird dynamic but how he hinted at sleeping with Henry or something and Ned gets very quiet

Like the "..." In the chat in these games

"...Guess he's over Summer then?"

"Oh, Henry's just outside if you want to talk to him!"

Cue Ned loudly protesting while she forcefully shoves Henry in to talk to Ned because shes the least tactful person ever

And they have an awkward conversation about Kit and dating and Ned's like,, "Hey, love who you love, man. As long as you're happy, I'm happy."

BUT HIS VOICE BREAKS ON THE SECOND SYLLABLE A LA FRANK TALKING TO NAN IN CAP

anyway. when they're trudging around the grounds Nancy and Henry have a discussion about Kyler and Matt's unhealthy relationship and Henry's experiences with unhealthy relationships

and at the ceremony Henry and Nancy are lowkey side eyeing each other because this marriage won't last lmaooooo

But anyway, Henry asks Kit to dance at the reception because he is growing beyond his past yay

RAN:

Henry is very anxious even before arriving at dread isle

Because he's gonna meet some of Nancy's besties and THE PRESSURE

But he and George hit it off pretty quick

Henry: "I'm literally begging you to do anything else."

Henry just has a plethora of Edgar Allen Poe knowledge stored away from his EMO emo phase in high school

Nancy saying, "but what was the deal with all those glass eyes?" In the bathroom is her on the phone with Henry lmao

Chase reminds Henry of Ned because he's so wholesome and kind

When Henry mentions it, Nancy remarks that frosty reminds her a bit of Henry

Henry uncovers that Frosty and Chase are a couple thanks to the flash drive

Nancy mentions Ma to Pa every 5 seconds and Henry elbows her every time but she just. keeps. going

Henry tries to calm Frosty down with the mice thing but fails and then Chase comes in and Frosty is fine is 2.5 seconds and Henry is exasperated and Nancy is all-knowing

Debbie adores Iggy and pet sits him while Nancy drives Henry around to photograph clouds bc Henry is far more artistic and Nancy is more logical

Henry and Ned have been texting since wac

Nancy also intoduces Henry to Frank and Joe over the phone

Joe wont stop texting Henry ab random shit but its okay

Henry's phone has been blowing up between Bess and Ned and George and Joe and occasionally Frank and Kit a couple of times

So he's becoming more confident and feeling loved!

"Who are you texting?" Nancy asks

"Hm?" Henry asks, pausing while posing for a selfie. "Oh, Joe wanted another pic of Iggy." Iggy blinks at Nancy from his perch on Henry's shoulder. "C'mon." Nancy crowds in and he wraps his arm around her. They're both wearing plaid, mostly as a joke. They grin.

Iggy croaks, smiling as well.

Henry sends the snap, laughing to himself.

Nancy catches his eye. "Joe's single, you know," she says mildly.

Henry raises his eyebrows. They've never really talked about his sexuality, or his dates, Kit notwithstanding. "So is Frank," Henry replies.

Is she - is she blushing?

"Yeah." She bites her lip. "It's hard to know -" she sighs.

Henry doesnt know how to break it to her. How do you tell your best friend you have a thing for her ex-boyfriend? "Joe's awesome, but... he's not my type."

"And that's okay," Nancy says. "You know you can tell me anything?"

"I know." Henry pauses. Holds his breath. Lets it out. "Almost ready."

Nancy laughs. "Just tell me when."

After Scott blah blah blah....

"It's too bad, yknow." Henry says. The team looks at him, Debbie with tears in her eyes, Chase gripping Frosty's hand, Nancy with her hands on her hips, defiant. "He was kind of a DILF."

Chase roars in laughter, Frosty fake gags, Debbie giggles, Nancy is yelling in delight.

Henry snaps Scott's arrest to Joe and Bess with the caption "rip scott's career he was a dilf". Across the country, Joe cries tears of pride and Frank sighs, long-suffering. Bess' skin has cleared, her crops are watered, Henry has reached his full chaotic potential, all is right with the world. George looks at Bess' phone over her shoulder and scoffs.

you sighed as you sat next to your husband's half packed bag on your bed.

"what?" he asks, stopping after he places a t shirt into the bag.

"i just...why the suit?" you frown, and he just smiles, sitting next to you.

"hey, it's just in case. i'm literally going to defend my suit tailor from a vigilante. i might need it." he shrugs, leaning forward and pressing a quick kiss to your pouting lips.

you just groan, throwing yourself backwards onto the bed and flopping your arms dramatically above your head. matt laughs softly, shaking his head at your antics. he places the last item of clothing into his bag and pushes the bag off of the bed before laying right on top of you.

"you know i love you, yeah? and that i'll always come home to you?" he asks, leaning up on his forearms and pushing a few stray pieces of hair away from your face.

"yeah but-"

"no but's. you know that, right?"

"yes." you sigh, and matt smiles, placing his hand softly on your cheek.

"i'll be okay. it's just a week, my love." he says, your heart fluttering at how softly and delicately he spoke to you.

you closed your eyes, leaning your face onto his hand and letting out a soft breath before opening your eyes and smiling up at your husband.

"i love you"

"i love you more" he smiles, leaning down and pressing a gentle kiss onto your lips.

liar. liar liar liar.

it's all that ran through your head as you looked down at your phone, seeing pictures of daredevil and she-hulk flood your timeline. edits of them together and a video of your husband leaving an apartment building early in the morning with his shoes in hand. clearly doing the walk of shame.

you'd seen enough.

you throw your phone to the opposite side of the couch and just sit there, staring at the blank wall in front of you. you weren't really sure what to do. scream. cry. call him and yell. leave and never speak to him again.

you genuinely didn't know what to do.

your phone violently began to vibrate and ring, and you just sat there, letting it ring. letting the texts and calls pile up. undoubtedly foggy and karen calling you after seeing the news all over their timelines. but let's be honest, even if you did pick up the phone, you'd have nothing to say. what could you say?

your husband just cheated on you.

what in the world could you possibly say?

your thoughts were interrupted by violent knocking at your door. you took a moment to breathe before making your way to the door and slowly bringing it open, and you're face to face with your best friend, leanne. she stands there, slightly out of breath and her eyes fixed onto you, seemingly waiting for you to say something.

"what do i do?" you breathe out, your eyebrows furrowed as you stand there in front of her, still in disbelief.

"you do whatever you need to do. and whatever it is, i support you. need to leave? i'll pack your things. do you need to stay? we'll get comfy and we can talk through it. wanna set his stuff on fire? i'll grab the matches. need to disappear and change your identity? i know a guy. you tell me whatever it is you need right now, and we'll do it." she says firmly, walking into your home and shutting the door behind her.

for a moment, you just stood there, still in the hallway. everything around you felt like him. hell, you were wearing his clothes. and even in his betrayal, you'd never felt safer than when you were surrounded in these pieces of him. knowing that made part of you angry, but it also made part of you break more than you thought it could. the place where you felt safest is a place you didn't belong. a place you weren't sure you ever belonged in the first place. deep down you always kind of knew. you knew that you weren't really his...type.

you almost wanted to laugh at yourself.

a type. what a small menial thing in comparison to falling in love. who cares about an archetype when you're in love.

but deep deep down, and every now and then, very sparsely, the thought came into your head. you'd considered the women he'd loved. the hard headed type, fighting the world in their mini skirts and heels. the bold type. they were so outspoken and strong. physically and mentally. when they spoke, everyone turned their heads to look and listen. they captured the attention of a room full of people simply just by walking in. you'd admired it. admired them. but you also knew, that just wasn't you. and even though you knew that, you'd always figured it was dumb. it wasn't an insecurity so much as it was just....a known fact. you were his type breaker. but that didn't really matter because at the end of the day, he married you. he built a life with you. why would something as dumb as a type matter when he chose you to spend forever with?

but now, suddenly, types mattered. and while he was always yours, it's clearly evident that you were never his. wether he married you or not, at the end of the day, you just weren't his type.

"what's going on in your pretty head, huh?" leanne asks softly, coming up behind you, wrapping her arms around you and laying her head on your shoulder.

you didn't bother to answer. not wanting to burden her with everything going on in your head.

he was supposed to come home tomorrow. you'd counted down the days. but now, you weren't sure you wanted to be there when he got home and yet you couldn't imagine being anywhere else.

matt murdock didn't think it was possible for him to run this fast. as soon as the plane landed, he'd run out of the terminal gates about to flag down a taxi when he'd heard foggy shouting.

"HEY YOU GIGANTIC IDIOT GET IN THE CAR!"

for a moment, he'd considered walking instead. he'd rather suffer walking 20 miles back to his apartment than a 30 minute car ride with foggy, who was beyond pissed.

matt walked towards the car and foggy snatched his suitcase from his hand, quite literally throwing it into the backseat and slamming the door shut as he walked over to the drivers side.

"i'm not opening your door"

matt opened his mouth to speak, but he decided it was best not to. he slid his hand across the door before grabbing the handle and sliding into the passenger seat before sinking into himself. all he could think about was getting home to his wife. hoping and praying that she'd be there when he got back.

"why'd you do it" foggy asked, his voice cold and angry.

his tone was harsh and he was short with matt. rightfully so.

"i...i don't even know."

matt wasn't even sure why he did what he did. he'd just...slipped into his old ways, he guessed. he loved his wife. he loved you. you were everything he'd ever dreamed of in a woman. you two fit like a glove. complimented each other. your lifestyles complimented each other. so he didn't even know how it happened. he just knew that he was sorry, and he'd do anything to fix it.

foggy scoffed, shaking his head.

"you don't know? you don't know. great. that's just great, matt. so you did it for no reason then?"

"no. not for no reason i-"

"then what? huh? what fucking reason could you possibly have to cheat on your wife, matt? the woman who makes you elaborate lunches to take to work and- and- brings the entire office coffee in the mornings on the way to work? the woman who re-sews the buttons on your shirts with silk thread so they're more comfortable for you and who planned an elaborate beach honeymoon so that for once in your life you'd be able to experience silence? that's the woman you deiced to cheat on?"

matt didn't have an answer. he wish he did. any answer, even if it was an awful one. but he really didn't know why he did it.

"i just...got caught up in the moment. the adrenaline of it all-"

"the adrenaline of it all. okay. right. so do you just have sex with everyone you fight with out there? that a normal occurrence for you?" foggy sarcastically spit out.

matt almost physically winced at foggy's coldness. never in their many years of friendship had foggy been this angry at him. never had matt ever felt like foggy would give up on him. except for right now.

"fog i-"

"no. no you don't get to speak. you're gonna sit there, and you're gonna think about what you're gonna say to her."

and that's what he did. matt sat there, thinking about you. thinking about if you'd be there when he got home. how he'd fix this. he opened his mouth as he turned to foggy and dared to ask

"how is she?"

the question almost made foggy want to laugh. like...maniacally laugh.

"i dunno. her husband just cheated on her. i'd say not very good."

"is she...did she-"

"leave? no. but if you ask me, she should have."

deep down matt wanted to argue that face, but he didn't. he knew better.

"so she's still-"

"i said yes, matt. she's still at home."

matt sunk further into his seat, if that was even possible. and while he and foggy sat in silence, so did you. you were sat at the living room table, a cup of tea in your hand, your leg bouncing up and down in attempt to release your anxiety.

you looked down at your phone, and part of you didn't want to do it. you were sure you wanted to stay here. work through it. but the next thing you knew, you were running across the apartment, stuffing clothes into a bag with your phone tucked between your shoulder and your ear.

"y/n? are you okay?"

"no. i can't be here when he gets here. i need to go."

there was a moment of silence and then lianne's voice came through, harsh and determined.

"i'll be there in five."

[MONDAY AFTERNOON]

Her smooth silk brown skin glistens

under the sunlit illuminated windows

as the water trickles

down her broad shoulders

to her god-crafted muscles,

flexing with every step they take

ever

slightly

out the pool.

Their chest heaving,

a slightly tired

yet heavy gaze

as they skim around the room at their peers,

eyes landing on one particular figure

with a similar look in their eye.

Her stoic demeanor is slowly replaced

with a playful smirk as she eyes...

wait…

SHE’S LOOKING AT ME-

SHIT!

Shuri snaps out of her internal monologue, jumping from the huge glass that peered into the school’s aquatic center, and quickly bolts through the double doors that lead to the hallway. When she’s out of sight, she slumps over, catching her breath. “Wow, Ms. Nakia would have either granted me an A+ or sent me to the principal’s office with the type of words I was thinking,” Shuri chuckles to herself.

After a brief pause at her words, her face heats up as she quickly facepalms in shame.

“What the hell am I saying?”

Reluctant, she trudges down the hall in embarrassment, making her way to the place she considered her third home: the science building computer lab (her second home was chemistry lab 2b).

In there resides Peter Parker and Ned Leeds, sitting around a desktop clicking away at some first-person shooter game, with an unwavering MJ Watson sitting a couple of seats away from the boisterous boys, head in a book per the usual. All three teens lined up in typical geeky fashion. Shuri slumps her book bag over a computer table, the sudden noise breaking the immersion of the boys who then looked up from their game, spotting the presence of their purple-clad friend.

“Dude, what have you been doing all this time?” Ned scowls. “We didn’t have any clubs today and we’ve been waiting for you for the past twenty minutes to walk to that new milk tea cafe MJ’s been telling us about.”

Not lifting her head from her book, MJ snarkily remarks, “She’s probably been too busy ogling the crap out of that poor girl over at the aqua center.”

Shuri’s face heats up as she’s quick to defend herself. “Cut it out! Of course I wasn’t!”

MJ smirks, still not looking up from her book. “Sorry, lemme rephrase that better: she’s probably been too busy eye fucking the crap out of that poor girl over at the aqua center.” Blood rushes through Shuri’s cheeks as she sputters incompressible excuses from her mouth, MJ giggling at her discomposure from her book.

“You’re such a mess, Shuri! When are you gonna finally buckle down and rizz her up– or at least go up and talk to the girl instead of borderline stalking her almost every afternoon?” Peter playfully pokes the purple-clad.

Shuri sucks her teeth, swatting him away. “One: the word ‘rizz’ sounds extremely uncanny coming out of your mouth. Please refrain from using that word around me again.”

Collective snorts bounce off the embarrassed white teen whose shit-eating grin twists into a poker face.

“Two: I don’t eye Y/N almost every afternoon.” Shuri pshaws and waves everyone off.

“Oh, my bad!'' Peter dramatically gasps, slapping a hand over his chest. “It’s every morning, lunch break, assembly, dinner break, class transition, and EVERY afternoon.” Collective snickers break out as Shuri backhands Peter, not harshly, but hard enough to derive a strained “ack!” out of him.

“But seriously, Shuri, it’s about time you try and get this girl’s number.” MJ goes on, finally looking up from her book and putting it on the table spine up. “It’s no use for you to keep on hopelessly pining after this girl from afar and not putting in the effort to actually pursue her.” Shuri slumps into a chair and releases an exasperated sigh.

“I do, but what would a versatile and talented girl want with a one-trick pony nerd like me?” MJ visibly cringes at the purple-clad’s words. “Ewww man, this isn’t the 80s! We are NOT living in a Disney Channel sitcom. There’s a lot of people would go for somebody as smart and intelligent as you, you know that.”

“Yeah, maybe to do their homework for them,” Shuri retorts. MJ pauses. “Hmmm, now that claim, I won’t completely disagree with...” “MJ!” Ned dramatically gasps as he lightly slaps MJ on the shoulder.

“Don’t listen to her, Shuri. You are perfectly capable of winning Y/N over just the way you are.”

The purple-clad snickers. “Now THAT was something you could’ve sworn was straight out of a Disney Channel sitcom.”

About 15 minutes later, the eccentric group of teens close up the computer lab and continue down the hallways with milk tea on their minds… except for Shuri. She trails behind the bunch, head hung low, peeping at Y/N’s Instagram.

As her walking gets slower as she’s gaping at her phone, the coil-haired nerd brushes her shoulder against what she thinks is just a wall. She lifts her head to notice the shorter, dark, and gorgeous swimmer— the same one on her phone that she still had in open view.

“Oh! Whassup, Miss Shuri!” Y/N’s eyes light up as he greets the taller.

Shuri’s breath hitches at the lovely emphasis put on her name, blood running cold as she quickly checks her peripheral to make sure the gang wasn’t around to humiliate her more than she already was.

Meanwhile, the teens heard what was going on behind them, but chose to continue on their merry way, intentionally leaving the two alone in the middle of the hallway.

She looks back at the short athlete and returns the greeting with a bashful smile. “What brings you here, Y/N?” The nerd quickly asks in a desperate attempt to carry the conversation, forgetting that people don’t need a reason to just roam the halls, something she mentally facepalms herself for right after.

“Nothin’ much,” Y/N chuckles at Shuri’s nervous efforts. “I’m just coming out of my swim practice. Mr. Namor was runnin’ me dry today.”

The athlete pauses as if she’s recalling something, the corners of her mouth slowly curling into a knowing smirk.

“I saw you peeping me over at the center earlier,” she drawls, “figured you wanted to speak to me about somethin’?” The athlete’s tongue subtly swipes across her bottom lip, as she gazes up at Shuri with a particular look in her eye, irises occasionally shifting down to the open Instagram page still on her phone, waiting for an excuse.

It was enough for the poor nerd to melt into a puddle, knees buckle and collapse, and lay sprawled across the hallway floor right then and there, but luckily for her, she still possessed a pinch of dignity left within her. With fleeting composure, gripping her backpack strap with strain, Shuri gives a weak pshaw.

“Me? I was just passing by! I just really like watching the team…”

You…

“...practice.”

As Shuri desperately attempts to form more words that can potentially save her, her eyes flicker to a *very convenient* bulletin board behind the shorter athlete. There, plastered on the brown surface was a poster: “CALLING FOR NEW MEMBERS! Swim Team Tryouts This Thursday at 5 pm! Swim Your Way To Success!”

Oh, Bast…

“In fact, I’m thinking of trying out for the swim team myself,” the nerd straightens up and states proudly, hoping she masked the way she winced at her words.

Y/N, who was expecting a different answer, gapes at the helpless girl in slight shock. “Oh, for real? That’s crazy! I never pegged you as a swimmer, Shuri.”

The nerd’s mouth forms a goofy grin. “And why is that?” She dramatically slaps a hand on her chest. “Is it because I’m of the darker persuasion?”

This derives a hearty cackle out of the shorter athlete, Shuri’s stomach fluttering from the fact that she made the girl laugh.

“Negro, please,” Y/N catches his breath and straightens up. “It’s because… I mean…” The shorter athlete trails off, eyeing Shuri up and down, the nerd’s cheeks heating up in the act.

“You know what? Nevermind. I can’t blame you for wanting to try. Hell, I’ve been swimming since 4 years old, the feeling’s exhilarating.” Y/N sighs off into the distance, as Shuri internally gushes at the shorter athlete’s passion.

Suddenly she snaps out of her trance and backtracks on the words of the other girl.

“Can’t blame me for wanting to ‘try’? Are you still assuming I can’t swim?”

Y/N waves his hands in defense. “No! I’m just saying–”

“Well I’m GOING to try out, I’m GOING to swim like a pro, and I’m GOING to get on the team!”

After a brief pause at her sudden outburst of competitiveness, Shuri reels it back in with a small “...respectfully,” and a cheeky smile.

Amused at the nerd’s sudden wave of confidence, Y/N clasps their hands together in accord. “Sounds like a plan then! I guess I’ll be seeing you Thursday then.” The shorter athlete readjusts the duffle bag strap on her shoulder and starts to walk closer to Shuri, laying an encouraging, yet, knowing hand on the taller’s shoulder, and leans into her ear.

Shuri could have sworn she was imagining what was rasped next.

“Word of advice: work on that backstroke… I know I will.”

Y/N then pulls away with an innocent grin and brushes past the appalled nerd, continuing on their merry way, but to suddenly turn around to yell one last thing:

“And your phone’s still on!”

Frozen in place, the girl slowly peers down to her cellular (one she made the mistake of changing the display settings to go into sleep mode after 5 minutes) still on Y/N’s Instagram page.

Once the athlete was out of sight, Shuri’s knees buckled as she grips the nearest wall, releasing a sigh of relief, quickly washed over with a wave of anxiousness.

“Y’know a backstroke is a type of swim move, right?”

Riri chuckles at Shuri as she clicks away on her calculator, doing her homework on her bed. The young prodigy lifts her face from it being buried in her pillow and whines.

“But she said it so… sultry like… and her voice was so… raspy… it felt INTENTIONAL!”

“Or maybe your horny ass misconstrued her words and heard ‘backshots’ instead of ‘backstrokes’!” Riri giggled as Shuri proceeded to throw a pillow at the girl.

“Regardless, either word could be used as an innuendo, she did it on purpose,” Shuri retorts.

“Okay, okay, whatever. Sooo, what are you gonna do?”

Shuri flops back on her bed with a sigh. “I will try out for the swim team, like I said I would. I mean, she sounded so intrigued when I mentioned I was interested, and the passion in the way she speaks about it— I should at LEAST try.”

“Aww, I guess that’s fair,” Riri begins to coo. “If you knew how to swim.”

“Huh?”

“Shuri, I have never seen you TOUCH water unless it was for drinking or an experiment, let alone be EMERGED in water outside of taking showers and baths in it. We’ve had campus water activities and pool days before and each time you’ve said ‘I’m busy, I’m busy.’”

“Well I was, you know I have school work as my top priority.”

“We have them during school breaks, Shuri, you don’t work on a school break!”

Riri releases an exasperated sigh. “Shuri, can you swim or not?” The prodigy gives her friend a hesitant look. “I mean, I’m not the worst at it…”

“Shuri, just say you’re shit at swimming.”

“Fucking hate it.” Shuri blurts out. “Haven’t stepped foot into a pool since I was 6.”

“Damn it, Shuri!”

“You wanted me to be honest!”

Riri chuckles in disbelief, shaking her head. “That’s not even it, Shuri! Swim team try-outs are on Thursday, that’s in THREE DAYS! You barely know how to swim, what makes you think you’ll be ready within the next three days?”

“I’ll figure it out, okay?” Shuri stresses, trying to calm herself down. “I mean, you seem to know how to swim. Why don’t you teach me?”

“One: you dug this silly lil’ hole yourself,” Riri wags her finger at the prodigy, “I’m not helping you with shit. The most I’ll do is braid your hair back the night before so it can fit better in the swim cap you’ll have to put on. Two: I couldn’t teach you even if I wanted to because I wouldn’t have time, I’m stacked up on homework for the next few days.”

Shuri groans in her pillow, flopping back down on her bed once again. The young prodigy felt hopeless with no more ideas left… except for one last hope.

“No.”

“C’mon, brother! This is my love life on the line!”

T’Challa chuckles, crossing his arms. “You got yourself into this mess when you knew you couldn’t swim.” He raises is hands in defense. “You have a death wish, I am not helping you.”

“But that’s what Riri said!” Shuri whines.

“Well Riri is a good friend, keep her around. As for me, I have a gym to organize so I am going to continue what I was doing.” T’Challa does just that as he starts to pick up idle weights off the floor.

“I’ll pay you!”

“I have a job, and you’re a broke college student.”

“But with an internship!”

“An unpaid internship.”

“I’ll be your very best friend!”

“I’m your brother, and I already have plenty of friends.”

“Oh, like that old brute that works alongside you?”

“I heard that, you oversized midget!” A snarky coach M’baku scowls from the connected office.

“I’m 5’5!”

“And I’m 6’5, midget!”

Shuri rolls her eyes waves him off. “You work with that oversized man baby,” she sneers to T’Challa.

The older chuckles as he continues to tune out his sister’s persuasions while he tidies around the ring.

“Brother, please!” Shuri drops to her knees dramatically, rubbing her hands together in impatience. “I’m becoming desperate, I REALLY need your help!”

The younger continues to plead as the older man begins to cringe at the pathetic display, checking his peripheral to make sure she wasn’t causing a scene for unwarranted pedestrians that may walk past the gym.

“Okay okay, I will help you! Just stand up, PLEASE! You’re embarrassing me!” T’Challa quickly reassures the girl on the ground.

Shuri’s pleas quickly halt as she jumps to her feet, showering her brother with “thank you”s.

“Ahh, don’t thank me yet,” the older waves the girl off. “And I’m only going to be RE teaching you the basics. Any extra stunts you want to pull for your little girlfriend besides that will be on your accord.”

“Deal,” Shuri clasps her hands together.

“Now will you please leave me be? I have a gym to attend to.”

“Whatever,” Shuri remarks as she starts to head for the exit, “But just know I will be at the gym pool, bright eyed and bushy tailed tomorrow morning!”

The girl slaps the doorway wall and points at her brother, who both chuckles and cringes at her enthusiasm.

Once the bubbly teen was out of sight, M’baku wheels himself to the office doorway in his rolling chair.

“You know she’s going to drown herself.”

A reluctant T’Challa sighs. “Yep.”

There is not even a single fanart of callie x frank. At best, maybe 2 fanarts of them. Ned has more fanart than her.

Callie "gets in the way" of self-shipping via Francy or just Francy. Also plenty Nancy Drew Games fans don't give a shit about the Hardy Boys franchise. They'll never make fanart of Frank and Callie. Somehow she's the "other woman" despite dating him first, being his age, and existing in the same universe as him.

Hulu hardy boys captured the dorky high school romance they originally had well. Although I wouldn't include Chet. I think they would just be that dorky high school sweethearts thing. He's terrible at flirting, but he loves her compassion and fire. She may not understand everything he experiences as a detective but she's there to call him an idiot when he's acting like one (it's more often than not justified) and help him out when he needs her.

Joe and Callie need to combine their Ariesness to torture Frank. They'd be so powerful together. Not a single decision that isn't impulsive.

my shameless hot takes! (please don’t hate me):

fiona was the best character on the show, and it was always intended to focus on her pov. that’s why the show took a dramatic nosedive in quality after she left.

lip wasn’t a horrible person for yelling at her a few times. he wasn’t always considerate or kind, but fi made mistakes and deserved to be called out. being a fiona stan doesn’t mean i ignore her flaws.

debbie was the worst character on the show season four onwards. she was annoying, selfish, and often unnecessarily cruel. she was also a subpar (if not straight up bad) mother. also we don’t talk enough about how she is literally a rapist???

fiona and jimmy-steve should have been endgame.

gallavich is cute and mickey is such a wonderful character but ian is the most annoyingest guy ever.

speaking of which, the gay jesus storyline was literally the worst thing to ever happen to shameless and literally makes me cringe every time i think about it.

mandy was a legitimately compelling and interesting character and deserved better. lip and mandy honestly should have been endgame.

on that note, tammy is the most annoying person on the planet oh my fucking god. lip should not have stayed with her, she was an annoying, controlling, stuck-up bitch. they should’ve had split custody of freddie and gone their separate ways.

fiona was the kids’ mom. and they never appreciated her for everything she did.

sheila was a hugely important and delightful part of the show and her loss was genuinely devastating. however, her relationship with jody was weird af.

carl’s growth and storyline was impeccable; one of the best in the show. however, it weirds me out to think of him as attractive because we watched him grow up!

liam deserved better! he was always treated as an afterthought in the later seasons, and the others never accepted or encouraged his attempts to connect with Black culture. also, fiona should’ve taken him with her when she left since she was his legal guardian.

kev and v were the best couple on the show! however, kev was in the right during the whole argument after the girls were born; v wasn’t the most attentive or caring mother at first.

none of the age difference / power dynamic couples were okay or hot or romantic or whatever. ian x ned and ian x kash was abuse and statutory rape. lip x that teacher in s3 was statutory rape. lip x helen was an abuse of power. debbie x tommy was weird on his part and also rape. the woman at the shrimp place sexually harassed carl. fiona x mike was an uncomfortable power dynamic. karen x frank wasn’t funny, it was predatory behavior that culminated in rape. none of this was funny or hot or okay.

lip was at his best in college, and should’ve gone back at a different school when he got sober. the bike shop was a weird turn.

frank was abusive and neglectful. monica was emotionally manipulative and neglectful. grammy was abusive. it’s okay to feel bad for them as characters (i definitely felt bad for frank when he had dementia) but they are child abusers first and foremost.

frank probably would have been successful and happy if he’d never met monica.

seasons 1-3 was the golden era of shameless. as soon as it ventured into more of a comedy/weird ass political commentary show, it really veered away from what made it special: its gritty, honest, and vulnerable look into a family in poverty, bound together by love. that’s what made it so, so good.

Pickles x Smoke Reversed Selfship AU

I picked Pickles for this one because out of all my f/os, she seems like the most likely to ship herself with fictional characters XD

In this AU, Pickles, ever since she was a pup, is enamored by a character from an animated sitcom called The Dog House. The characters name is Smoke The Xoloitzcuintli, and he is kind of a minor character who appears throughout the show and is an ally to the main family, kinda like Ned Flanders in the Simpsons. Smoke is a good hearted dog with a rather dry and witty sense of humor, and Pickles can simply not get enough of him. She has a whole collection of merchandise of him, but her absolute favorite is her lil plushie, whom she cuddles every night. I just hope she knows that he loves her so much back :3

Eugene x Smoke Pirate AU

The reason why I chose him for this one is kinda obvious XD..

In this AU, Eugene is the captain of his very own pirate crew, with Smoke being his first mate and lover. Other crew members include SpongeBob (Sailing Master), Squidward (Gunner), and Pearl (Boatswain). They do gain more crew mates overtime however (Patrick, Sandy). Their ship is called the Krusty Krab, and their main goal is to find what every pirate wants to find. Buried treasure! The treasure in question contains the secret formula for the most delicious food in existence…Krabby Patties. After they find it, they plan to settle down and start their own restaurant. However, Sheldon Plankton, Captain of the Chum Bucket ship, ALSO wants the secret formula, so the whole things kinda a race to see who can get it first. The end is up to interpretation!

Frank x Blake Coworkers AU

Chose this for them because my Simpsons S/I canonically does not work at the power plant, and I think it would be funny if he did.

In this AU, Blake works at the Nuclear Power Plant along with Homer, the two are best friends and inseparable. One day, a guy name Frank Grimes arrives, and he and Blake immediately hit it off. Blake shows him around the power plant and everything, and he along with Homer become the main people Frank trusts at the power plant. Blake and Homer get into all kinds of stupid shenanigans which can tick Frank off (Think The Office type shit), but Frank has a secret that prevents him from losing his marbles…and that secret is that he loves Blake. How will he confess it to him? Once again, interpretation!

Sadly I couldn’t decide who to use for the Pokémon AU, so I may have to come back to that one later!

Movies I watched this week (#176):

6 new Romanian films:

🍿 After listening to the angelic voice of Maria Coman, I wanted to re-visit some Romanian films.

Acasă, My Home, a raw, unexpected gem! A quiet documentary (with no music score!) about a family of feral Romas (9 kids and their stubborn parents) who live isolated from society, in a nature reserve just outside Bucharest. Filthy, proud, tight-knit and independent, they are eventually chased out of their shack and subsistence living, and struggle with their integration into the system. With a surprise cameo by Prince Charles (WTF?) who shows up for a UN ceremony to plant a tree. Sublime 💯 score on Rotten Tomatoes. 9/10.

🍿 Betisoare rock n'roll (2010) a moving short about a deaf woman who goes to a concert, to find the singer. She's his mother who gave him up for adaption 35 years prior. 10/10.

🍿 Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn, an absurdist, post-modernist riddle by infant-terrible Radu Jude. A history teacher at a secondary school films a sex tape with her husband, but the video leaks on the internet. Everybody around her is scandalized and she has to attend a raucous free-for-all parent conference, where they get to vote if she should be expelled or not.

It's a wild, uneven film. It boldly opens with and features several hardcore pornographic scenes without any excuses. It also uses experimental / structuralist tropes a-la-Godard, which makes this into a jarring experience; The first act basically follows the teacher as she keeps walking through the noisy streets. The second act is a provocative pastiche of images and thought-bubbles which criticizes the schizophrenic, reactionary Romanian society today, dealing with ignorance, sexism, xenophobia, the trauma of history, as well as misinformation during the Covid years. The third act, of the 'trial' against the teacher, offers three different outcomes, including a surprising dream-vision where the teacher turns into Wonder Woman, and she fucks the mouths of all the attendees with a giant silver dildo.

🍿 I was planning on exploring Radu Jude's complete works, but (after that ^) I will continue another time. Instead, I just saw his first touching film The Tube with the Hat (2006). A village boy convinces his dad to take their broken TV set to a repairman in the city. Show, don't tell.

🍿 The dictator and his servant, an odd, experimental short from 1967. Found on 'Cinepub', a free YouTube channel with over 900 Romanian films. [*Female Director*].

🍿 2 Lottery Tickets (2016), a lighthearted and sweet comedy about 3 hapless, bumbling losers from a sleepy provincial town, who win the lottery but lose the ticket. Low-key, but assured directing style, follows wretched situation without condemnation. 8/10.

Waking Ned is a 1998 feel-good Irish comedy that was the inspiration for '2 Lottery Tickets', the Romanian film above. The plot deals with Ned Devine who dies from a heart attack, when he hears on the telly that his numbers match the big lottery winning numbers. And with the whole tiny village which conspires to claim the big prize money. The simple, rustic wholesomeness is being excessively idolized, but it ends on a surprising twist. 5/10.

🍿 Meet John Doe, Frank Capra's wholesome, politically-naive tale. An average Joe Shmoe, an "Everyman", (but one who looks just like Gary Cooper), becomes a lightning rod for a populist 3rd party candidate. An ordinary citizen vs. money and corruption in government. 'Come together' and be 'Nicer to your neighbors'. (Screenshot Above).

🍿 "Use men - to get the things you want!"

Baby face was an extreme pre-Code story of a young woman using sex to advance in the world. Stanwick goes from a 14-year old daughter, sexually-abused by her pimp-father, to a serial seductress who heartlessly ends up with the president of the bank. No wonder The Hays Office was able to clamp down on morality and filth in the movie business around that time. Blatant whoring and early feminist sentiments, mixed with motivation born of reading some Nietzsche philosophy. Too much for the poor plebeians suffering from The depression. With a 2-line cameo by John Wayne. WOW! 8/10.

🍿 "Once I watched my big brother shave..."

Ball of Fire, a 1941 Howard Hawks screwball comedy with a ridiculous premise. A group of stodgy "professors", all bachelors except of one widower, live in an old-fashioned boarding house while writing an encyclopedia. The old men, all foreigners but Gary Cooper, know nothing about sex, but are all titillated when a young woman takes refuge there. They are anti-intellectual, creepy and infantile, and the whole story was difficult to swallow. 💯 score on Rotten Tomatoes, but only 1/10 on mine.

(Not to be too personal, but I feel quite melancholic recently, what with the looming end of the world, destruction of all life, etc. So, the only remedy is to lose myself for the 15th, 16th, Nth time in Palm Springs, and forget that soon we'll all be dead too.) Another (very) frequent re-Watch ♻️.

The slender thread was Sydney Pollack's first feature film, and also the first film featuring Dabney Coleman. A mixed bag social drama, with young Sidney Poitier working at the then-new suicide prevention hotline, and trying to save the life of Anne Bancroft, who had just ingested a bunch of pills. With a fantastic score by Quincy Jones, and evocative locations of 1965 Seattle. But the psychological play between the the two is dated and ham-fisted. Nobody today would treat her as clumsily and unprofessionally as it was then. 4/10.

RIP, Dabney Coleman!

Challengers, the new Health and Wealth soft-core porn-drama for bi-curious teenagers. Tennis and Threesomes, served in a slick, non-linear package. Lush cinematography (and irritating tecno-score by the otherwise always-outstanding Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross). Surprisingly (or maybe not), it's the latest from Luca Guadagnino, but doesn't compare to his so much better 'Desire Trilogy'. I wish he would just stay in Italy! 4/10, mostly for the initial seduction scene.

🍿 My first by Carl Franklin, Devil in a Blue Dress, a 1948's LA Neo-Noir. It's obvious that they were going for a Chandler style 'Chinatown' clone, but with a black hero, Hunky Denzel in his white undershirt. There was a moment where they even say nearly verbatim "Just find the girl, Mr. Gittes" but without Noah Cross's deep, guttural voice, and definitely without his gravitas. 5/10.

🍿 The Equalizer, a re-watch ♻️. I felt like a silent vigilante movie, and this was is actually pretty good, especially the meticulous, quiet build-up. The violent action portions I could do without. 7/10.

Shut the Door. Have a Seat, one of Mad Men's greatest episodes, Season 3 finale. A perfectly-perfect 47 minutes of pure economic drama. Concise dialogue, compact story telling, classic build up. Everybody's invited to hear unexpected news, by being told to 'sit down'. And it ends with all the suffering characters, from the glacially-beautiful Betty Draper, to Sally, her 10 yer old daughter. moving on with their lives, while Roy Orbison sings 'Shahdaroba' in the background. "When a dream dies... And a heart cries... Shahdaroba Is the word they whisper alone..."Another regular 10/10 Re-Watch ♻️.

🍿King sausage (2022) is a weirdly-animated musical about love among the offals. 2 butchers duke it out in a small town sausage competition. The descriptions of the meats are not for vegetarians. The language sounds extremely harsh. 7/10.

🍿 In Goodbye mister de Vries, a 93 year old man receives a package with his childhood skates, and tries to go skating on the ice one more time.

🍿In the weird Pregnant (2015) a guy pisses up on a pregnancy test thingie, to discover that he's expecting a baby. [*Female Director*].

I only decided to give the new horror film For sale a try because it looks like the world I knew so well. Shady salesmen and dirty real estate tricks. I knew I would probably hate it, but maybe it will be accurate? However, the actor who played the sleazeball piece of shit Realtor had as much charisma as the character he played, and as soon as the standard "horror" tropes appeared on screen, it was time to pack it in. Couldn't finish it.

I still would like to find some realistic new real estate movies [besides '99 homes', 'The big short', 'Glengarry Glen Ross'...?]

🍿 The Man Who Couldn’t Miss Screenings an imaginative agony of a on obese, middle-age cinephile, sitting at home on his computer, being hen-picked by his nagging Chinese wife, who doesn't appreciate his love for the art of moving pictures... All that played against Pink Floyd's 'Comfortably numb'. It hits too close to home. man! Made in 2023, which means that the A.I. is very passé, so this is nearly an historic document. Astounding 9/10!

🍿 The Sleeping Audience, another early onset nightmare fuel about mass scare, audiences sleeping through real messages about the end of the world, but waking up when the 'fake' movie starts. [Terrific, but the audience is all black for some reason- ?]

Apparently this guy had been making indie movies under the rader for 40 years. Many more of his new A.I. shorts can be found on his YouTube channel. (Including the nightmarish Welcome to the machine, which is based on the famous photo of Roger Waters riding the subway...)

When did you start shipping Frank and Nancy Drew and why?

Hiya Anony,

Growing up I was a DIE-HARD Nancy x Ned shipper. It was only after watching The Hardy Boys & Nancy Drew Mysteries that I wavered. Especially during the Meet Dracula episode and even more so in Arson & Old Lace. Sure. The episodes are a little corny, but there is CHEMISTRY between Parker Stevenson and Pamela Sue Martin.

But what really got me is--- Arson & Old Lace X

(its a different Nancy Fc, but--- Frank Hardy goes out of his way to keep looking for Nancy after she's been abducted by a guy named Rathbone. He refuses to believe she's dead even after six months and makes it his personal mission to save her)

That said: I still am open to ALL the Nancy ships: Nancy x Ned, Nancy X Frank, Nancy X Joe, Nancy x Male oc (as long as there is chemistry)
