Just stopping by to tell you how much I absolutely LOVED Necessary Arrangements and I was wondering...

Will we get a little story about Benny finding his true love? My boy Benny deserves a happy ending too and I'd love for all the boys to just live happily ever after in Freidlyn ❤️

(I know the story is on hiatus, just thought I'd ask and thus let you know at the same time how much I loved it 🥰🩷)

Soooo yes. 100%. Benny is absolutely also going to have a Freidlych love interest. We completely believe in happy endings in this house and everybody deserves them. Especially Ben Miller, whom I adore. When @steeevienicks and I come back to the story of the beautiful little kingdom we will be just about to meet her!

@orangerosebush's post here, with my comment and @fowlblue's tags today got me thinking.

Artemis Senior has been teaching his son matters of business from a young age. Not only was Artemis, at 11 years old, discussing stocks with his father, but Fowl Senior had been imparting his wisdom onto his son for years by that point, discussing the ever-increasing value of gold with him before tucking him into bed. Even outside of pure monetary value, Sr. had tried to go legitimate with his business dealings, leading Artemis to have a few legal ventures of his own.

We also see very early on in the books that Artemis has been regularly using Butler as a resource for his plots: bouncing ideas off him was apparently a fairly common tactic when he was scheming.

Both Artemis Senior and Butler are interested in (or at least, not opposed to) educating Artemis on the ways of their lifestyle(s). It would be Artemis Senior who would have taught his son the value of banks and safety deposit boxes and hidden safes but it was Butler who was actively working with Artemis to rob those safety deposit boxes.

In the same vein of breaking-and-entering, TLC also gives us the fun little moment where Butler hands Artemis his own lockpicks, to get into the workings of the bomb.

With one line we learn that Artemis knows how to pick locks, but does not have his own set of lockpicks. Butler, on the other hand, has both the tools and knowledge how to use them. Partnered with a brief mention in TTP of some the specific trades of those previously employed by Artemis Senior (including such things as crime lords, insider traders, and cat burglars), we can extrapolate that Artemis Senior would generally hire someone to pick a lock for him, rather than do so himself.

It's pretty logical to conclude then that Artemis learned big-picture management from his father, and day-to-day skillsets from his bodyguard.

Essentially, Artemis Senior taught Artemis how to run a criminal empire. Butler taught Artemis how to be a criminal.

just a few random thoughts on The Arrangement Astarion (cw: mentions of past abuse and trauma)

The way abuse can warp someone for life is often overlooked. This isn't just a journey about him dealing with intimacy (in all its forms) but also how to do it in spite of everything he went through. Putting up walls and not letting her in, but feeling the need to resort to sarcasm and to being snarky cause the vulnerability that comes with it is just too much to handle. She has already seen the ugly yet he keeps doing it, because when you've doing it for so long it becomes second nature and it's hard to unlearn this behaviour. How can people stay when they've seen the ugly? Well, some people do stay because they have seen the ugly and their love for you surpasses that. They'd ve damned if they allowed that to change their opinion of you.

However, this doesn't have be a life sentence for him. He can learn and better himself alongside her if he so chooses. There will be good days. There will be bad days. But the constant will be her by his side. And this isn't about anyone getting fixed. There are other ways to heal. Are those healthy, though? But still, no matter how uncertain things are, he can count on her love as a constant that can help him love the parts of him that he has grown to hate.

Is it easy? Does it happen overnight? Probably not. But there's always hope. There is always a way out. Even when he dissociates. Even when he's fearful of getting more intimate with her. Even when he remembers that she chose friendship over something else - it's never easy to be shown what you need to see instead of what you want to see. Astarion falls into this constant dichotomy and I think it's worth exploring 🫂

First WIP Wednesday of the year!

Another snippet of the gentlebeard arranged marriage AU that's still somehow coming along at a steady pace?

Here's Ed, the morning before he's supposed to meet Stede for the first time.

Ed fills the basin with water and carries it over to the brazier. The fire went out overnight, but the tent is still comfortable thanks to the layers of insulation. He lights the fire again thinking about warmth and wool and watching women work with it. The felt of the slippers that keep his feet warm. The felt of the blankets that keep his bed warm. The felt of the tent itself, which his grandmother, mother, and sisters have all put their hands to at various times to protect family members, guests and even animals from the cold. One of his earliest memories is of watching them make tent felt. Or maybe “make” isn't the right word, since each new fleece is worked into a layer of felt that already exists. He remembers the four of them, when they were all still alive, singing and laughing as they rolled and beat the fibers together. Reckons it must have been a warm day because he recalls bronze arms bare to the sun. Remembers that wet wool smell and the pounding sound of their tools and later, his mother's lanolin-softened hands.  While his water heats Ed takes his knife to the bottom edge of the tent, cutting off a palm-sized section of felt before he can talk himself out of it.

(FYI I don't not recommend going on a traditional crafts youtube spiral, it can be very soothing and good for worldbuilding besides.)

Necessary Arrangements: A Review

I have to start this off by thanking Siri ( @stargazingfangirl18 ) for sharing this wonderful story with us. I wasn’t around when this was originally on Tumblr but being able to discover this now after having read some of the brilliant writing on her page….it has been a gift!

I also want to thank Siri for being kind enough to let me blow up her inbox as I progressed through NA. 😅 It has made reading this a true joy of being able to not only share my thoughts and confusion, but to spiral with someone there to endlessly mock me. (I kid, she was right there hoe-spiralling with me😂)

Full review below the cut incase I accidentally give away any spoilers for those you who haven’t read. Seriously, what are you waiting for?!?!

First of all I went into this expecting to read some shameless smut, I wasn’t expecting to become so invested in the characters and the reader inserts! At the end I found myself shamelessly rooting for all of them in completely different ways.

I told Siri at one point that I had to put it down because I was too close to finishing it and I didn’t want it to be over.

There’s big emotions, lots of smut (thank you Siri!) and beautifully written plot.

My favourite part of the whole story is watching all of these wonderfully characters grow. From Declan growing from a trust fund prick, to Oli’s reader letting down her walls.

Most of all I loved that Aiden made it his life’s mission to be everything for Mrs. B. She is perfect and must be protected at all costs!

All in all this is something I know I will read over and over again. Maybe different parts at different times, but this is something that I think everyone can enjoy at least once.

And one last time: thank you Siri for sharing this with all of us. You have made something incredible and shared a piece of yourself with it. The love and care you have taken with these characters warms my heart and tells me everything I need to know about you! ❤️ I love you my sweet hoe!
