I am rereading Nebuchadnezzar's Dream again (great fic btw, Carlisle's existential despair is just 😘👌) and I came at the point where Renata muses about crafting with the children of the moon's pelts. She gives the thought up since they turn back to human but it made me wonder.
What do you think happens to their corpses? Do they keep turning every night even after death? Do they turn back to human once and then never again? If so, does it happen at dawn or a certain amount of time after death no matter where the sun is? And is the change dependent on the absence of sunlight i.e. if you bury them during the day they turn to their wolf form and stay that way until they're decomposed?
Also the thought of Renata in this huge, imposing wolf pelt cloak is so funny especially if it turns to a weird thin human skin flap during the day.
Thank you for praise!
I had the Child of the Moon turn human again hours after death for plot purposes: once you're dead, the tissue in you is no longer living tissue and decomposition begans within minutes. Just because a person is still people-shaped a few hours after death, doesn't mean his insides are.
By that logic (and, well, science) I don't think a dead Child of the Moon would react to the turn of night and day the same way he did when he was living, simply because his body is busy decomposing.

What if Aro told Carlisle that he suspected him to be gifted back when they were together in Volterra all those years ago?
Anon's talking about Carlisle's hypothetical gift, TL;DR people like Carlisle.
Caveat
To me it's not unbelievable Aro wouldn't have done so (if we take my gift theory as fact). He doesn't get to see Carlisle in action enough, with people who should be hostile and not simply annoyed, to have any kind of meaningful proof or anything beyond mild suspicions (if he in fact has those).
What pushes him over the edge in @therealvinelle's Nebuchadnezzar's Dream (where this gift is a large plot point) is seeing things from Edward's perspective as well as what Carlisle has managed to make of himself.
Carlisle has become a doctor to humans who are terrified instinctually of vampires and people like him. Esme as a human didn't just think he was great but idolized the idea of him for years. We know that Elizabeth felt confident and comfortable on her death bed to ask Carlisle to turn her son into an alien (granted, Elizabeth could just be and likely was a very interesting person, but still). Charlie Swan notes to Bella how he really likes the Cullens, primarily Carlisle who he sees the most of, and thinks they're a great family and only seems to become concerned about Edward after the New Moon fiasco.
Add onto that that Carlisle wasn't murdered by any suspicious covens along the way even with funky yellow eyes and a weird sales pitch, that he was able to negotiate with the wolves, and that he has friends everywhere who will all risk their lives not just for his sake but for the sake of his weird baby thing that his adopted son made with a human, and a record of every thought Edward has witnessed surrounding Carlisle and how they all approach him, and that's getting Aro on board with the hypothetical gift meta idea.
But when Carlisle was in Volterra, Aro didn't have that. He might have wondered "man, how is this guy so hot and charming?" but it could just be Carlisle's hot and charming.
So, I could see why he wouldn't consider it deeply or bring up even suspecting it if he did. Gifts are rare, he's probably wrong, and even if he is right--this one's a doozy.
But Alright, Let's Say He Does
Carlisle leaves to become a hermit.
At first Carlisle doesn't believe him. What Aro's saying is nonsense. Of course Carlisle interacts with the world the way normal people do, and isn't secretly using demon mind control, Aro's the one who told him there's no such thing as Satan.
This is ridiculous.
However, some way or another (perhaps involving ye olde pyramid schemes, 17th century David Bowie and glam rock, and pilgrammage for the Ziggy Stardisciples) they manage to prove that what's happening to Carlisle is not normal. This is not how the world works for ordinary people.
Upon being convinced, Carlisle realizes not only is every relationship he has a fraud, but he's taking advantage of everyone around him (worse, of course, if he had romantic interactions with them). Everyone has to like him, everyone has to agree with him, everyone has to listen to him even when he could be wrong.
"I must become a hermit and seek solitude in the mountains"
Aro, of course, is devestated and think this is ridiculous. "CARLISE, I READ MINDS AND MURDER PEOPLE ALL THE TIME AND IT'S FINE! YOU'RE FINE!" (this is not a compelling argument)
It's made worse that Aro takes the opportunity to try to get Carlisle off the diet again. Look, Carlisle, if by nature you're a mind controlling demon you might as well eat people. Right?
I imagine Carlisle leaves Volterra and seeks solitude in the mountains, contemplating the deep secrets of life/universe and writing theological treatises. Aro asks Demetri to check in on him every once in a while and see how he's getting on/if he's ready to be reasonable.
He never is.

Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream
1 In the second year of his reign, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams; his mind was troubled and he could not sleep. 2 So the king summoned the magicians, enchanters, sorcerers and astrologers to tell him what he had dreamed. When they came in and stood before the king, 3 he said to them, “I have had a dream that troubles me and I want to know what it means.”
4 Then the astrologers answered the king, “May the king live forever! Tell your servants the dream, and we will interpret it.”
5 The king replied to the astrologers, “This is what I have firmly decided: If you do not tell me what my dream was and interpret it, I will have you cut into pieces and your houses turned into piles of rubble. 6 But if you tell me the dream and explain it, you will receive from me gifts and rewards and great honor. So tell me the dream and interpret it for me.”
7 Once more they replied, “Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will interpret it.”
8 Then the king answered, “I am certain that you are trying to gain time, because you realize that this is what I have firmly decided: 9 If you do not tell me the dream, there is only one penalty for you. You have conspired to tell me misleading and wicked things, hoping the situation will change. So then, tell me the dream, and I will know that you can interpret it for me.”
10 The astrologers answered the king, “There is no one on earth who can do what the king asks! No king, however great and mighty, has ever asked such a thing of any magician or enchanter or astrologer. 11 What the king asks is too difficult. No one can reveal it to the king except the gods, and they do not live among humans.”
12 This made the king so angry and furious that he ordered the execution of all the wise men of Babylon. 13 So the decree was issued to put the wise men to death, and men were sent to look for Daniel and his friends to put them to death.
14 When Arioch, the commander of the king’s guard, had gone out to put to death the wise men of Babylon, Daniel spoke to him with wisdom and tact. 15 He asked the king’s officer, “Why did the king issue such a harsh decree?” Arioch then explained the matter to Daniel. 16 At this, Daniel went in to the king and asked for time, so that he might interpret the dream for him.
17 Then Daniel returned to his house and explained the matter to his friends Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. 18 He urged them to plead for mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery, so that he and his friends might not be executed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. 19 During the night the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision. Then Daniel praised the God of heaven 20 and said:
“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. 21 He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. 22 He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him. 23 I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors: You have given me wisdom and power, you have made known to me what we asked of you, you have made known to us the dream of the king.”
Daniel Interprets the Dream
24 Then Daniel went to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to execute the wise men of Babylon, and said to him, “Do not execute the wise men of Babylon. Take me to the king, and I will interpret his dream for him.”
25 Arioch took Daniel to the king at once and said, “I have found a man among the exiles from Judah who can tell the king what his dream means.”
26 The king asked Daniel (also called Belteshazzar), “Are you able to tell me what I saw in my dream and interpret it?”
27 Daniel replied, “No wise man, enchanter, magician or diviner can explain to the king the mystery he has asked about, 28 but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries. He has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in days to come. Your dream and the visions that passed through your mind as you were lying in bed are these:
29 “As Your Majesty was lying there, your mind turned to things to come, and the revealer of mysteries showed you what is going to happen. 30 As for me, this mystery has been revealed to me, not because I have greater wisdom than anyone else alive, but so that Your Majesty may know the interpretation and that you may understand what went through your mind.
31 “Your Majesty looked, and there before you stood a large statue—an enormous, dazzling statue, awesome in appearance. 32 The head of the statue was made of pure gold, its chest and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze, 33 its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of baked clay. 34 While you were watching, a rock was cut out, but not by human hands. It struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay and smashed them. 35 Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver and the gold were all broken to pieces and became like chaff on a threshing floor in the summer. The wind swept them away without leaving a trace. But the rock that struck the statue became a huge mountain and filled the whole earth.
36 “This was the dream, and now we will interpret it to the king. 37 Your Majesty, you are the king of kings. The God of heaven has given you dominion and power and might and glory; 38 in your hands he has placed all mankind and the beasts of the field and the birds in the sky. Wherever they live, he has made you ruler over them all. You are that head of gold.
39 “After you, another kingdom will arise, inferior to yours. Next, a third kingdom, one of bronze, will rule over the whole earth. 40 Finally, there will be a fourth kingdom, strong as iron—for iron breaks and smashes everything—and as iron breaks things to pieces, so it will crush and break all the others. 41 Just as you saw that the feet and toes were partly of baked clay and partly of iron, so this will be a divided kingdom; yet it will have some of the strength of iron in it, even as you saw iron mixed with clay. 42 As the toes were partly iron and partly clay, so this kingdom will be partly strong and partly brittle. 43 And just as you saw the iron mixed with baked clay, so the people will be a mixture and will not remain united, any more than iron mixes with clay.
44 “In the time of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever. 45 This is the meaning of the vision of the rock cut out of a mountain, but not by human hands—a rock that broke the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver and the gold to pieces.
“The great God has shown the king what will take place in the future. The dream is true and its interpretation is trustworthy.”
46 Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell prostrate before Daniel and paid him honor and ordered that an offering and incense be presented to him. 47 The king said to Daniel, “Surely your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings and a revealer of mysteries, for you were able to reveal this mystery.”
48 Then the king placed Daniel in a high position and lavished many gifts on him. He made him ruler over the entire province of Babylon and placed him in charge of all its wise men. 49 Moreover, at Daniel’s request the king appointed Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego administrators over the province of Babylon, while Daniel himself remained at the royal court. — Daniel 2 | New International Version (NIV) Holy Bible, New International Version®, NIV® Copyright ©1973, 1978, 1984, 2011 by Biblica, Inc.® All rights reserved worldwide. Oh my god, it's beautiful! I have no words, it's simply gorgeous,
To recover from the stress of med school (exams in September are a sign of Satan's influence on the world) I've been re-reading some of @therealvinelle and @thecarnivorousmuffinmeta 's brilliant fics (seriously, I spent whole afternoons laughing like an idiot).
To have it set in the muffinelle-verse I used these for the casting:
Carlisle
Renata (with a charming fur hat)
Aro
Here's a some quick paintings of a scene from Nebuchadenezzar's Dream, as screenshots form an hypothetical movie.
(Luckily all other characters don't have any close up shot and can have vague and blurry features.)
Overall it was a fun exercise in working fast and loose and not getting bogged down in the details as I usually do when I work digitally.

Why does the devil have three names?
We have no idea what the Devil's name is.
Satan is a title, from a Hebrew word that means resister, adversary. Devil is also a title, from a Greek word that means slanderer. The is a determiner used to point forward to a qualifying word or phrase. Lucifer is not and never was the Devil's name, that rather was a translation of a Hebrew word that means shining one.
Jerome, who translated the Hebrew scriptures into Latin, didn't speak Hebrew and his knowledge of the language was passable but not great; he inserted a Latin portmanteau, derived from two Latin words, lux and fer, light bringer, to make Lucifer, which is also the old Roman name for Venus, the morning star.
The Shining One in question was actually the king of Babylon, an ancient city in what is now Iraq, most likely Nebuchadnezzar II. (Isaiah 14:4, 12)
God did not see fit to record the name of the angel that came to be Satan.

I want to talk about the antichrist persona for a few minutes.
I pay a lot of attention to conversations about eschatology (end times events as they relate to scripture.) Everything going on around us is related to biblical end-times events; this includes Israel at war, the breakdown of our governmental systems, the collapse of global economies, and the coming of a man – the antichrist, that will shortly step up to take control over practically everyone and…

Oooooh, color me very impressed (and wondering just how long it took you)
Not taking constructive feedback at this time. I reached a little too high with going from editing photos to gifs. Learned a lot in photoshop though - including not to start with a dark hair color when going lighter (we’ll all pretend its blonde OKAY?.) I need to move on from this one depsite it not looking how I want.
ANYWAY, was watching I am number 4 for Carlisle imaginations and he looked in the mirror and I immediately connected it to " Nebuchadnezzar's Dream"/"A Statue of Iron and Clay" by @therealvinelle and @thecarnivorousmuffinmeta when he mentions seeing his new eye color in the mirror.

The Handwriting on the Wall
1 King Belshazzar made a great feast for a thousand of his lords and drank wine in front of the thousand. 2 Belshazzar, when he tasted the wine, commanded that the vessels of gold and of silver that Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken out of the temple in Jerusalem be brought, that the king and his lords, his wives, and his concubines might drink from them. 3 Then they brought in the golden…

How do you go about foreshadowing?
Whimsically.
Most of my fics haven't been mapped out in detail when I start, and if they have then I always deviate from the plan. When I do foreshadow, it's usually as a wink-wink, nudge-nudge to the readers or clearing my throat loudly at them.
The point of foreshadowing, as I see it, is that you want to point the reader towards where things are headed. They don't have to know specifically how the story will end, but they should be given an indication that something bad is going to happen to character A or that something is brewing with character B.
There's also what I can only call author's Easter eggs in this category, that is to say, the little things the author leaves in for their own sake that the readers might catch, might not, but I don't really consider that foreshadowing in the same way.
I think I'll explain using Nebuchadnezzar's Dream, as it has several bits of foreshadowing. A few that come to mind:
Carlisle has been sent away so he can't interfere with his family's plan to overthrow the Cullens. He doesn't know this, he bought the excuse they gave him, but in chapter 5 I include a flashback to a talk he had with Edward where he not only made it clear he won't support open rebellion, but also unknowingly comes across as brainwashed by Chelsea. Edward, rather than try to dissuade him, quietly says "I see", and Carlisle notes that Edward never broached the subject again. The scene's inclusion (as I could have found another way to show the readers how Carlisle feels about the Volturi, but chose this scene with Edward), Carlisle's refusal to believe Edward could seriously be considering it, and the fact that Edward openly says "I think we should overthrow the Volturi" were all meant to set off the readers' alarm bells.
More on the symbolic end: my determination to have Carlisle, Jane, and Alec fake their deaths by drowning, and Carlisle getting an ominous feeling about it, was because they'll very soon have no choice but to live underwater indefinitely.
Renata's talk with Carlisle about Bella Swan, where she confides she's been terrified of the Cullens and what they might be capable of. The specific fear of an army showing up to murder them all is brought up, in the context of her expressing how happy she is to not have to worry about it anymore.
Aro's warning to Carlisle that he has misjudged Edward's character and this may have disastrous consequences, specifically "I think (...) that all I can do is let this happen. Whatever it will be."
There have been other fics I wrote that had foreshadowing in them, but at the moment the only ones coming to mind are incomplete fics that I don't wish to spoil.
Generally, though, when deciding if something could use foreshadowing, identify if the event you're wanting to foreshadowing is something that's being built up to and will be important to the fic, and from there determine how it can be foreshadowed. The conversation with Edward in Nebuchadnezzar's Dream was meant to be a glaring red flag, as I all but told them what was going to happen, Aro in the chapter immediately afterwards saying "Edward's going to do something, Carlisle", Renata bringing up her fears of an attack, were all me shouting as loudly as I could at my readers. It worked for that fic because there were so many indicators the Cullens were up to something.
Ultimately, my unprofessional advice is to have fun with it. If there's a place in your fic where you can put a clue for the readers, then go for it and if your readers don't pick up on it, that's fine too. They probably won't.

Nebuchadnezzar’s Letter
1 From King Nebuchadnezzar:
To all peoples, nations, and languages that dwell on the entire earth:
May your peace and prosperity increase.
2 It seemed good to me to declare the signs and wonders that the Most High God did for me.
3 How great are his signs! How mighty are his wonders! His kingdom is an eternal kingdom, and his dominion extends from generation to generation.
Nebuchadnezzar Seeks the Meaning of His Dream
4 When I, Nebuchadnezzar, was carefree in my house and prospering in my palace, 5 I saw a dream that frightened me. The images I saw while I was on my bed and the visions in my head alarmed me. 6 So I issued a decree to bring before me all of the wise men of Babylon so that they could give the interpretation of the dream and make it known to me. 7 Then the magicians, the spell casters, the astrologers, and the diviners came, and I told them the dream. However, they could not make its meaning known to me. 8 Afterward, Daniel came before me (whose name is Belteshazzar, like the name of my god, and a spirit of the holy gods dwells in him), and I told him the dream.
9 Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, because I know that a spirit of the holy gods dwells in you, and no mystery is too difficult for you, take a look at the dream I saw and interpret it for me. 10 I was seeing visions in my head while I was on my bed:
There was a tree standing in the middle of the earth, and its height was great. 11 The tree grew and became strong. Its height reached to heaven, and it was visible to the ends of the whole earth. 12 Its leaves were beautiful, and its fruit was plentiful. On it there was enough food for all. Under the tree the wild animals had shade, and the birds of the air lived in its branches. All living creatures fed themselves from it.
13 I was on my bed, watching the visions in my head, and I saw a watcher, who was a holy one, come down from heaven. 14 He called out loudly, and this is what he said:
Chop down the tree and cut off its branches. Strip its leaves and scatter its fruit. Let the animals flee from under it, and the birds from its branches. 15 However, leave the stump with its root in the ground, with an iron and bronze band around it. Leave it with the grass of the field, and let it be wet with the dew from the sky. Let its place be with the animals among the plants of the earth. 16 Let its mind be changed from that of a human, let the mind of an animal be given to it, and let seven times pass over it.
17 The proclamation is a decree of the watchers, and the matter is a command of the holy ones, so that all the living may know that the Most High rules the kingdoms of men. He gives them to whomever he wishes, and he appoints the lowliest men over them.
18 This is the dream that I, King Nebuchadnezzar, saw. Now, you, Belteshazzar, tell me what it means, because none of the wise men of my kingdom are able to make the meaning known to me. But you are able, because a spirit of the holy gods is in you.
Daniel Explains Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream
19 Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was horrified for a moment, and his thoughts troubled him. The king said, “Belteshazzar, do not let the dream and its meaning trouble you.”
Belteshazzar answered, “My Lord, if only the dream were about your enemies and its meaning about your foes!”
20 The tree which you saw grew and became strong. Its height reached to heaven, and it was visible to the whole earth. 21 Its leaves were beautiful, and its fruit was abundant. On it there was food for all. The wild animals lived under it, and the birds of the air lived in its branches.
22 You are the tree, Your Majesty. For you have grown, and you have become great. Your greatness has increased and reached to heaven. Your dominion reaches to the ends of the earth. 23 And you, Your Majesty, saw a watcher, who was a holy one, coming down from heaven, and he said, “Chop down the tree and destroy it. However, leave the stump with its roots in the ground, with an iron and bronze band around it. Let it be with the grass of the field. Let it be wet with the dew from the sky. Its place will be with the wild animals, until seven times pass over it.”
24 This is the interpretation, Your Majesty:
It is a decree of the Most High that has come upon my lord, the king. 25 You will be driven away from humans, and your dwelling will be with the wild animals. You will have to eat plants as bulls do, and you will be wet with the dew from the sky. Seven times will pass over you until you know that the Most High rules the kingdoms of men, and he gives them to whomever he wishes. 26 Because they said to leave the stump with the roots of the tree, your kingdom will remain yours when you acknowledge that Heaven rules.
27 Therefore, Your Majesty, let my advice be pleasing to you. Break away from your sins with righteousness and from your guilty deeds by showing mercy to the poor. Perhaps your prosperity will be extended.
Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream Is Fulfilled
28 All this happened to King Nebuchadnezzar. 29 At the end of twelve months he was walking on top of the palace of his kingdom in Babylon. 30 The king said, “Isn’t this the great Babylon that I built for a royal residence by my mighty power and my majestic glory?”
31 While the word was still in the king’s mouth, a voice came down from heaven. It said, “It is announced to you, King Nebuchadnezzar: The kingdom has been taken away from you. 32 You will be driven away from humans, and your dwelling will be with the wild animals. Grass will be fed to you as grass is fed to bulls, and seven times will pass over you until you know that the Most High rules the kingdoms of men, and he gives them to whomever he wishes.”
33 Immediately the word was fulfilled against Nebuchadnezzar, and he was driven away from humans. So he ate grass as bulls do, and his body was wet with the dew from the sky until his hair grew long like eagles’ feathers and his nails like birds’ claws.
34 At the end of the set time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my reason returned to me. So I blessed the Most High, and I praised and glorified the one who lives forever, because his dominion is an eternal dominion, and his kingdom lasts forever and ever. 35 All of the inhabitants of the earth are considered to be nothing, and he does as he wishes with the army of heaven and the inhabitants of the earth. So there is no one who can hold back the hand of the Most High and say to him, “What have you done?” 36 At that time my reason returned to me, and my splendor and glory returned to me for the honor of my kingdom. So my advisors and nobles looked for me. I was reinstated over my kingdom, and I became even more majestic than I was before. 37 Now, I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, exalt, and honor the King of Heaven, because all his works are true, and his ways are just. All those who walk in arrogance he is able to humble. — Daniel 4 | Evangelical Heritage Version (EHV) The Holy Bible, Evangelical Heritage Version®, EHV®, © 2019 Wartburg Project, Inc. Daniel 2:28 Give God The Credit
But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the later days. Your dream, and the visions of your head upon your bed, were these: Daniel 2:28 Every person likes to receive credit for what they did.
