In many instances, the physician who treats your baby within emergency room er the ER will contact your primary care physician afterward. If your youngster is admitted to the hospital, the emergency room doctor will let your doctor know. In some cases, it is a true medical emergency and the ER (also known as the emergency department, or ED) is the best place to get care. The difference between pressing care and emergency rooms is the severity of the health problem.

Urgent Care Treatments: ER Alternatives for Immediate Care
When you're suddenly feeling unwell or experiencing an injury, you want immediate care. But when is it best to go to an emergency room (ER) and when should you visit an urgent care center? While each situation is unique, urgent care treatments offer an effective alternative to the ER for non-life-threatening conditions.
Discover the Advantages of Urgent Care Treatments
Urgent care centers provide quick and efficient care for a variety of medical needs, from minor illnesses to fractures and sprains. Here are some of the benefits of visiting an urgent care center:
Convenient Hours and Locations
Urgent care centers are typically open seven days a week and offer extended hours, including evenings and weekends. This means that you can get care when it's convenient for you, without taking time off from work or school. In addition, urgent care centers are often located in easily accessible locations, such as strip malls or shopping centers.
No Appointment Necessary
Unlike visiting a primary care physician, you don't need an appointment to get care at an urgent care center. Most will let you walk in without an appointment and will treat you on a first-come, first-served basis. This makes it easier for you to get care when you need it most.
Lower Costs
The cost of urgent care treatment is typically lower than the cost of a trip to the ER. This is because urgent care centers are staffed by medical professionals such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants, who can provide the same quality of care as doctors, but at a lower cost.
Wide Range of Services
Urgent care centers are equipped to treat a wide range of medical conditions, from colds and flu to more serious illnesses and injuries. In addition, some centers offer on-site laboratory and X-ray services, so you can get the tests you need without having to go to a separate lab or radiology facility.
When to Opt for Urgent Care Instead of the Emergency Room
It's not always easy to know when to go to the ER and when to go to an urgent care center. In general, you should go to the ER if you are experiencing a life-threatening condition such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, or severe bleeding. If you are experiencing a minor illness or injury, such as a fever, sore throat, or sprain, then an urgent care center may be the best option. Urgent care centers are also a good option if you need a quick test or X-ray, or if you need treatment for a chronic condition that is not life-threatening.
Find Quality Healthcare Near You
When it comes to your health, it's important to find the right care. Fortunately, there are many quality urgent care centers in the United States. To find one near you, start by checking with your health insurance provider to see which centers are in-network. Then, you can use online search tools to find the nearest center and read reviews to learn more about the center's services and reputation.
The Bottom Line
Urgent care treatments offer an effective alternative to the ER for non-life-threatening conditions. From convenient hours and locations to lower costs and a wide range of services, urgent care centers provide quick and efficient care when you need it most. When choosing an urgent care center, be sure to check with your health insurance provider and read reviews to ensure that you are getting quality care.

Where’s Your Nearest Defibrillator?
People are having cardiac arrest within 50 meters of a defibrillator yet still many people are dying because no one knew it was there.
Shocking figures show that an automated external defibrillator (AED) can increase someone’s chance of cardiac arrest survival by up to 90% if applied immediately. This significantly increases the survival chance of tens of thousands of people in Australia every year.
Defibrillators can be easily accessed by bystanders when a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) occurs in a public place. If a shock from an AED is applied within the first minute of collapse, chances that the victim will not sustain any brain damage or long-term disability. While victims who do not receive defibrillation drops their chances of survival, leaving a 10-minute' window of opportunity’
There are a lot of publicly available Defibrillators in Australia and people only need to know where they are.
Where are the Defibs?
Thousands of defibrillators are installed in different locations across Australia. Some of them are easy to spot in public areas, while others are private and are not easily visible. It is crucial to know their locations, because in an emergency, finding the nearest defibrillator and getting it to the victim quickly can be the difference between life and death.
The location varies in different states, but AEDs are most common in large public areas, such as:
Hospitals / Care Centres – defibrillators in hospitals are mostly found in the emergency department (ED), admission wards, operating rooms, the radiology department, the cafeteria, and as well in elevators.
Schools and Gymnasiums – both locations are high-risk areas and usually have high concentrations of people during school and after school events. AEDs are usually located at the main office or the staff room.
Public Parks – Defibrillators are often placed in bright-colored boxes in prominent positions on the park.
Health and Fitness Clubs – this includes golf, football, soccer, swimming, hockey, and cricket clubs. Defibs are usually found behind the bad or function rooms, where the center of the club is located.
Shopping Malls/Centres – central locations in the mall such as information desk/centres or in cinemas.
Business Offices - ground level next to the evacuation plan
Airport – nearly every major airport in Australia is equipped with one or more devices in every terminal.
Arenas, Concert Halls, Event Venues - most of these venues attended by hundreds, if not thousands of people. It is a requirement to have defibrillators installed in all visible areas.
How Defibrillators Work
This device often comes with verbal instructors to help its users.
First, turn on the device and follow the voice prompts. Some AED devices turn on automatically once the lid is opened. Attached the electrodes or the two sticky pads on the chest of the person in cardiac arrest. The electrodes will then send information about the person's heart rhythm in the AED processor, which will analyse the rhythm to find out whether an electric shock is needed.
If a shock is needed, the AED voice prompts will instruct when to press the release button to deliver the shock.
First Aid Training to Use AEDs
AED devices are not difficult to use but training in the use of AED is highly recommended to everyone. This training, in connection with CPR and First Aid, is offered by registered training organisations (RTOs) in Australia.
First Aid Classes will teach you how to recognise the signs of a sudden cardiac arrest when to call an ambulance, how to perform CPR, and how to use an AED. These also include the role of Defibrillation in DRSABCD.
DRSABCD is the foundation of first aid training. It stands for Danger, Response, Send, Airway, Breathing, CPR, and Defibrillator. This first aid acronym will help you have an action plan on how to respond in a medical emergency.
Learn More
The initiative to improve awareness of AED use and its whereabouts could potentially save thousands of lives. Learn more about sudden cardiac arrest and defibrillators in our First Aid Training Course.
We conduct training at many locations Australia-wide and our key locations are in South Australia, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales, Northern Territory, and Western Australia.

Hey this is one of the least informed posts I have ever seen on this godforsaken website, but I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you’ve been fed a shitload of propaganda re: Planned Parenthood and have no information about the actual services that they provide. Just so you know, PP does literally ALL of the things you mentioned in this post. Here’s some information for you:
FERTILITY AWARENESS:
https://www.plannedparenthood.org/learn/birth-control/fertility-awareness
They have a whole page about this birth control method on their website? Where they clearly lay out what it is and how to use it and its effectiveness rate? I’m not quite sure why you think they refuse to talk abut it when the Planned Parenthood website is literally the first thing that comes up when you google “fertility awareness birth control”, but hey.
PRENATAL CARE:
https://www.plannedparenthood.org/learn/pregnancy/prenatal-care/where-can-i-get-prenatal-care
https://www.plannedparenthood.org/planned-parenthood-hudson-peconic/patient-resources/prenatal-care
https://www.plannedparenthood.org/planned-parenthood-rocky-mountains/patient-resources/prenatal-plus-program
http://www.snopes.com/planned-parenthood-prenatal-care/
“If you don’t have health insurance, you may be able to get low-cost or free prenatal care from Planned Parenthood".
“You may be eligible for FREE prenatal care through the Medicaid for Pregnant Women program offered at PPHP medical centers”.
“In California alone, we found 13 Planned Parenthood clinics that advertise prenatal services. Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic (PPHP), which operates health centers in Suffolk, Westchester, and Rockland counties, New York, provides prenatal care in 6 of their 10 health centers. We also found that many of the Planned Parenthood clinics that do not provide prenatal care services do nonetheless state they offer resources to assist those in need of finding such care: ‘If you choose to continue a pregnancy, we will provide you with a list of resources to help you obtain prenatal care.’”
ADOPTION SERVICES:
https://www.plannedparenthood.org/learn/pregnancy/considering-adoption
“Many family planning clinics (including your local Planned Parenthood health center) have specially trained staff that can give you accurate information about all your options and other resources. The staff at your local Planned Parenthood can also refer you to adoption agencies or other resources in your area”.
MAMMOGRAMS:
http://www.politifact.com/georgia/statements/2015/aug/21/alliance-defending-freedom/numbers-right-mammogram-claim-missing-context/
Planned Parenthood cannot administer mammograms themselves, as mammograms are required to be administered at a licensed radiology facility (this is true, just, like, across the board – you will need to go to a radiologist for a mammogram regardless of who your primary care physician is or where you get your breast exams). HOWEVER, saying that Planned Parenthood doesn’t help people get mammograms is a lie, given that they provide breast exams, referrals to mammogram specialists, and financial assistance for mammograms to people in need:
“Planned Parenthood provided 487,029 breast exams or breast care services in 2013, the most recent year available. Based on those clinical exams and a doctor assessing risk factors, the group refers patients for mammograms and/or specialist follow-ups for procedures such as biopsies and, in some cases, financial assistance”.
INFERTILITY:
http://plannedparenthoodfertility.org/index.html
Planned Parenthood LITERALLY has a program called Fertility First Steps for people who need help identifying the causes of their infertility oh my god did you even bother googling these issues, like, at all:
“Fertility First Steps is a program for women and men who’ve been trying to conceive for at least 6 months. We evaluate possible reasons for infertility with initial diagnostic services, including: consultation with a nurse practitioner fertility specialist; testing for both women and men, including evaluation of fallopian tubes and semen analysis; referrals to partnering physicians specializing in advanced fertility treatments; All test, labs, and office visits are offered at Planned Parenthood’s discounted rates. If you are uninsured, you may qualify for state funding to cover a portion of the testing.
BREASTFEEDING:
http://www.getwic.org/breastfeeding/
Planned Parenthood has a program called WIC (women, infants, and children) that provides education and resources for those who are pregnant or who have recently had a child.
“Services provided:

“Medical care is important after a sexual assault. You can go to the emergency room or go to your nearest Planned Parenthood health center.
The doctors and nurses who take care of people after sexual assault are usually specially trained. They know how to be gentle, caring, and sensitive. They will:
-Examine you to see if you were harmed in any way -Give you medical care that may include emergency contraception (if there is a risk of pregnancy), tests for STDs, and medicine to help prevent HIV (post-exposure prophylactics). -Collect evidence, so you have the option to press charges if you decide that’s right for you. Evidence might include semen, hair, or skin cells from the person who assaulted you”.
“Planned Parenthood Mohawk Hudson offers free and confidential help for Sexual Assault and Crime Victims Services and their families. Call our 24-hr hotline for crisis counseling and advocacy. We can give you support at the hospital, police station, throughout police and court proceedings, and your recovery. If you or someone you know is in need help, call our 24-Hour Hotline. All hotline numbers listed by county below. Whether the assault was 10 minutes or 10 years ago, we're here to support you.
As for being pregnant, Planned Parenthood can help in any of the ways I’ve already mentioned in this post, as well as by offering safe & legal abortion procedures! Which yes, a 14 year old may not want to have a baby!!!! Believe it or not that might not be safe, physically or mentally!!

“For the past 20 years, PPNC's prenatal program has provided low-income, uninsured women with general health education, information about childbirth and parenting, one-on-one counseling from certified social workers and nutritional guidance, as well as free prenatal vitamins, flu shots and Lamaze classes--all at no cost”.
“Our prenatal program services include:
-family planning counseling -well-woman exams -preconception counseling -prenatal care -education on nutrition, exercise, labor and birth, parenting, breast feeding, and baby care -labor support and management -assistance during your baby’s birth -care after your baby’s birth”
It’s true that not every planned Parenthood Clinic will provide all of these services, and that services provided can vary from clinic to clinic. That’s a direct result of: 1) the clinics being underfunded and overworked, and 2) restrictive state laws that limit what Planned Parenthood can do. It’s no surprise that clinics in California, a state that has historically supported and funded Planned Parenthood, lead the pack in terms of consistently offering these services. The solution is to give PP MORE funding and legislative support, not less!
I know Planned Parenthood is a convenient boogeyman for you, but they really, truly do help hundreds of thousands of people each year. Please try to look past the fear-mongering and do some research into the actual programs and services that they provide.

Immune check-in may lead to a flu vaccine that lasts
Researchers have developed a new approach to assess whether a flu vaccine activates the kind of immune cells needed for long-lasting immunity.
Using this technique, the researchers showed that the flu vaccine is capable of eliciting antibodies that protect against a broad range of flu viruses, at least in some people.
Their findings could aid efforts to design an improved flu vaccine that provides protection not only against old influenza viruses but also new ones.
Flu season comes around like clockwork every year, and sooner or later everyone gets infected. The annual flu shot is a key part of public health efforts to control the flu, but the vaccine’s effectiveness is notoriously poor, falling somewhere from 40% to 60% in a typical year.
A growing body of evidence suggests that a history of exposure to influenza virus might undermine the effectiveness of the annual flu vaccine. Partial immunity developed during prior flu seasons—either through natural infection or vaccination—might interfere with the body’s response to a new vaccine, such that vaccination mainly boosts the recognition of prior influenza strains but does little to create the ability to fight new strains.
“Every year, about half of the US adult population gets vaccinated against influenza,” says senior author Ali Ellebedy, assistant professor of pathology and immunology at Washington University in St. Louis.
“It’s necessary for public health, but it’s also incredibly expensive and inefficient. What we need is a one-and-done influenza shot, but we are not there yet. Anything that helps us understand how immunity develops in the context of prior exposures would be important as we try to make a better vaccine.”
Getting the immune system up to date
The key to long-lasting immunity lies in lymph nodes, minuscule organs of the immune system positioned throughout the body. Easy to miss in healthy people, lymph nodes become swollen and tender during an infection as immune cells busily interact and multiply within them.
The first time a person is exposed to a virus—either by infection or vaccination—immune cells capture the virus and bring it to the nearest lymph node. There, the virus is presented to so-called naïve B cells, causing them to mature and start producing antibodies to fight the infection. Once the virus is successfully routed, most of the immune cells that take part in the battle die off, but a few continue circulating in the blood as long-lived memory B cells.
The second time a person is exposed to a virus, memory B cells quickly reactivate and start producing antibodies again, bypassing naive B cells. This rapid response quickly builds protection for people who have been re-infected with the exact same strain of virus, but it’s not ideal for people who have received a vaccine designed to build immunity against a slightly different strain, as in the annual flu vaccine.
“If our influenza vaccine targets memory cells, those cells will respond to the parts of the virus that haven’t changed from previous influenza strains,” Ellebedy says. “Our goal is to get our immune system up to date with the new strains of influenza, which means we want to focus the immune response on the parts of the virus that are different this year.”
Steps toward a universal flu vaccine
To get decades-long immunity against the new strains, the flu strains from the vaccine need to be taken to the lymph nodes, where they can be used to train a new set of naïve B cells and induce long-lived memory B cells specifically tailored to recognize the unique features of the vaccine strains.
To find out what happens inside lymph nodes after influenza vaccination, Ellebedy enlisted the help of coauthors Rachel Presti, associate professor of medicine, and Sharlene Teefey, professor of radiology.
Presti led a team at the Infectious Disease Clinical Research Unit that coordinated the sampling of blood and lymph nodes from healthy volunteers before and after vaccination.
Using ultrasound imaging, Teefey carefully extracted so-called germinal centers that hold immune cells from underarm lymph nodes of eight healthy, young volunteers vaccinated with the 2018-19 quadrivalent influenza vaccine. Scientists had designed that vaccine to protect against four different strains of influenza virus. Researchers extracted the immune cells at one, two, four, and nine weeks after vaccination.
Ellebedy and colleagues analyzed the immune cells in the germinal centers to find the ones that had been activated by vaccination.
In three volunteers, both memory B cells and naïve B cells in the lymph nodes responded to the vaccine strains, indicating that the vaccine had initiated the process of inducing long-lasting immunity against the new strains.
“Our study shows that the influenza vaccine can engage both kinds of cells in the germinal centers, but we still don’t know how often that happens,” Ellebedy says. “But given that influenza vaccine effectiveness hovers around 50%, it probably doesn’t happen as often as we would like. That brings up the importance of promoting strategies to boost the germinal centers as a step toward a universal influenza vaccine.”
The findings appear in the journal Nature. Additional coauthors are from Yale University School of Medicine, Scripps Research Institute, and Washington University in St. Louis.
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the National Institutes of Health and the Collaborative Influenza Vaccine Innovation Centers supported the work.

What is sciatica? What are the symptoms and treatment methods?
The sciatic nerve, the largest nerve in the body, starts from the lower part of the spine and extends to the leg. The sciatica, which provides the regulation of the sensory and motor functions of the leg, exits the 4th and 5th vertebrae, which are the last vertebrae of the waist, and passes through the hip and extends from the back of the knee to the bottom of the foot. Squeezing this nerve, also known as the S1 nerve, is called sciatica or sciatica pain. Sciatica pain usually begins with mild intensity and increases with intensity over time. The pain typically spreads to the leg area. It can be felt from the hip area to the calf, under the knee, to the side and front of the leg, and finally to the heel. Generally unilateral pain is more common in young adults, heavy workers, and people who are not exercising. Sciatica is a treatable disease, characterized by pain sensations in the leg, loss of strength and sensation. "What is sciatica?" It is necessary to answer the question.
What is sciatica?
The longest and thickest nerve in the body, sciatica or medical terminology, nervus ischiadicus, comes out of the last vertebrae of the waist and ends just below the knee. In other words, the sciatic nerve, which is formed by the joining of the L4, L5, S1, S2 and S3 nerve roots in the lower region of the waist, passes through the perforated area in the pelvis, which is located in the hip and defined as coxa, and extends to the back of the leg. It forms motor and sensory functions in this region by dividing into branches and reaching to the foot in the knee joint. Sciatica is actually the name given to the pain caused by pinching the nerve. "What does sciatica mean?" The answer to the question can be given in this way. Tightening or stretching of the roots of the sciatic nerve in the lumbar region causes pain in the leg. In some cases, causes such as vertebrae, inflammation, tumor and cyst can also cause sciatic nerve pain. Sciatica pain, which starts with low back pain radiating to the hip, spreads along the nerve from the groin to the back of the leg and from here to the foot. In severe cases of sciatica, the leg becomes weak, knee and wrist reflexes decrease. The more the person raises his leg, the more severe the pain.
What are the symptoms of sciatica?
Sciatica pain, characterized by pain extending from waist to foot, makes the person feel that he is pulled from his hip to the heel. Pain, which is exacerbated by movement, causes loss of sensation and strength along the area where the sciatic nerve passes in the leg and foot area. The severity of pain can sometimes limit a person's movements. It is difficult to bend the upper part of the body, or the movement of rotation can be limited. Often the person cannot stand upright and bends to one side. The problem of dragging feet can be seen on the side where pain is felt during walking. In addition to pain, numbness and tingling in the lower part of the feet and toes, a feeling like a needle sting can also be felt. In severe cases, loss of motion may occur. In addition, due to the inability to control the bladder and intestines, complaints that require urgent intervention such as urinary incontinence are among the symptoms of sciatica. If the disease is not treated, thinning and shortening may occur in the muscles of the painful leg.
Why does sciatica happen?
Sciatica pain can occur for many different reasons, although it is mostly caused by a herniated disc. Sciatica pains examined in three different groups can be seen as a result of compression in the lumbar region, compression of the sciatic nerve in the hip muscles, traumatic injuries in the back of the knee joint or in the foot region. The factors causing sciatica pain are listed below: Inactivity: Being inactive and sitting for a long time can lead to sciatic nerve pain. Sciatica is more common in occupational groups that require a long sitting and driving vehicle. Lifting Heavy: The sciatic nerve complaint is more common, especially in people who work in some occupational groups and who need to constantly lift heavy loads. Obesity: Being overweight or obese causes body weight to cause stress in the spine. Therefore, this situation can trigger the formation of sciatica. Diabetes: Diabetes, also known as diabetes among the people, can cause damage to the nervous system. Advanced Age: Due to aging, sciatic nerve pain may occur due to weakening of the muscles, bones and tissues around the bone. Trauma: Sciatic nerve pain may occur due to damage to the sciatic nerve and surrounding tissue after accidents and injuries. Pregnancy: The sciatic nerve may be suppressed due to the increased weight and widening uterus during pregnancy. In addition, enlargement of the abdomen and breasts during this period may also cause the center of gravity to change and thus pressure on the sciatic nerve.
How to protect from sciatica?
It may be recommended to keep the back and waist muscles strong to prevent politics, which greatly reduces one's quality of life. A good posture is effective in preventing sciatica formation. In addition, it is among the measures to be taken in order to avoid sitting incorrectly, to support the back, waist and arms while sitting and to protect against sciatica. Avoiding standing for a long time, standing still and lifting heavy can also prevent sciatica. When should a doctor visit for sciatica? Slight severe sciatic pain that occurs during the initial period may disappear spontaneously over time. However, if the severity of pain increases or the pain persists for more than a week, the physician should be consulted. In addition, if there is a sudden, severe pain in the back, hip, leg or foot area, numbness in the legs, weakness, difficulty in control of the intestine and bladder, the physician should be consulted for diagnosis and treatment. The complaint of sciatica pain that starts after traumas such as falling from a height or a traffic accident must be examined by the physician.
How is sciatica diagnosed?
When a person applies to a physician for sciatica pain, the physician first takes the patient's anamnesis. Therefore, pain description and history are very important. The presence of numbness, pain or tingling sensation, mostly from hip to heel, is important in the diagnosis of sciatica. The physician checks whether there is weakness in the muscles and the current state of reflexes by physical examination. He asks the person to lift his leg up while lying in a flat position. It measures the intensity of pain by performing some movements such as stretching. Likewise, it investigates the severity of complaints such as lethargy and loss of sensation. When necessary, the physician checks whether there is an abnormality in the sciatic nerve with nerve stimulation tests. In some cases, the physician may want to view in which area the sciatic nerve is suppressed by radiological imaging methods such as CT and MR. After understanding what caused sciatica pain, diagnosis is made and sciatica treatment is started.
How is sciatica treated?
Different types of treatment are applied depending on the patient's complaints, general condition, severity of sciatica, and why the sciatic nerve is suppressed. In some cases, analgesic drugs such as pain relievers and muscle relaxants are used, while in others, methods such as epidural steroid injection can be used. In addition to physical therapy methods such as spinal manipulation, traction therapy, applied by the physical therapy and rehabilitation department, surgical intervention may also be necessary for sciatica treatment. Sciatic pain can be treated with lumbar laminectomy by reducing pressure on the nerve, removing hernia formation, or partial or complete removal of the disc, known as discectomy. If you think you have complaints related to the sciatic nerve, do not forget to have your checks done by applying to the nearest health institution. We wish you healthy days. Read the full article
