Top Reasons to Choose a Calgary Chiropractor for Natural Pain Management
When it comes to finding effective, natural pain relief, visiting a Calgary chiropractor can be a life-changing decision. Calgary chiropractors specialize in providing personalized care, utilizing non-invasive techniques that focus on restoring the body’s natural balance. These professionals offer services that not only address pain but also enhance overall wellness and mobility, making them a go-to option for anyone seeking comprehensive healthcare solutions without relying on medications or surgery.
Holistic Approach to Pain Management
Chiropractors focus on treating the whole body rather than just alleviating symptoms. Chiropractic in Calgary addresses the root cause of pain by improving spinal alignment, which plays a critical role in the body's nervous system and overall health. By correcting misalignments, chiropractors help the body heal naturally, providing a sustainable approach to pain management that supports long-term wellness.
A visit to a chiro wellness center provides more than just adjustments. Here, patients can receive a variety of treatments, including relaxation massages that help relieve muscle tension and reduce stress. These massages often complement chiropractic adjustments, allowing the body to better adapt to changes made during treatments and improving the overall impact of care.
Personalized Care Plans
Every patient is unique, and so is their journey to recovery. Calgary chiropractors offer personalized treatment plans designed to cater to each individual’s needs. By taking into account your medical history, lifestyle, and specific concerns, chiropractors create a plan that focuses on your unique challenges. This tailored approach ensures more effective results, whether you're seeking relief from chronic back pain, neck discomfort, or headaches.
Chiropractors often incorporate advanced tools such as Kinotek into their treatment plans. This technology enables precise motion analysis, providing real-time insights into your body's movements, strengths, and weaknesses. With these insights, your chiropractor can adjust treatment strategies to enhance mobility, reduce pain, and improve alignment.
Chiropractic Treatments for All Ages
Chiropractic care is a safe and effective treatment option for people of all ages, from infants to seniors. Pediatric chiropractic care can help alleviate common childhood issues like colic, ear infections, and sleep disturbances. For adults, chiropractic treatment can address a range of conditions such as sciatica, migraines, and sports injuries. And for seniors, chiropractic care can help manage age-related issues like arthritis and mobility challenges, contributing to a better quality of life.
A Calgary chiro is trained to modify techniques to meet the specific needs of each age group, making chiropractic care a flexible and adaptable form of healthcare. This versatility allows families to rely on chiropractic care throughout their lives, as the care grows and changes to meet their evolving health needs.
Natural Pain Relief with Minimal Side Effects
One of the primary reasons people turn to chiropractic care is to manage pain naturally. Unlike pharmaceutical treatments, chiropractic care offers a non-addictive, drug-free approach. This makes it especially attractive for individuals who want to avoid the side effects and risks associated with pain medications.
Chiropractors are skilled in techniques that provide immediate relief, such as spinal adjustments, soft tissue therapies, and posture correction. For patients seeking additional relief, many chiro wellness centers offer services such as relaxation massage, which enhances the body’s natural healing mechanisms. These therapies work together to create a comprehensive pain management solution that doesn’t rely on invasive procedures or synthetic medications.
Proven Benefits for Athletes and Active Individuals
For athletes and active individuals, maintaining peak physical condition is essential, and chiropractic care has become a popular choice in this community. Chiropractors understand the physical demands of athletic activity and are trained to treat sports injuries, improve performance, and prevent future injuries.
Using Kinotek technology, chiropractors can assess an athlete’s body mechanics and identify areas of strain or weakness. By addressing these issues early on, chiropractors can help athletes improve flexibility, strength, and resilience. Many professional sports teams and athletes rely on chiropractors to help them stay in top shape, reduce recovery times, and enhance their performance.
Improved Mobility and Flexibility
Poor posture, prolonged sitting, and repetitive movements can lead to stiffness and a reduction in mobility over time. Chiropractic care effectively addresses these issues by restoring spinal alignment and balance. Adjustments and other chiropractic techniques promote flexibility and range of motion, making everyday activities easier and more comfortable.
For people who struggle with chronic pain conditions management, such as arthritis, chiropractic care can be an invaluable tool for improving movement and reducing stiffness. With each visit, your Calgary chiropractor will work with you to help restore optimal movement in your joints, so you can enjoy a better quality of life and maintain your independence.
Enhanced Nervous System Function
The spine houses the central nervous system, and its alignment is essential for proper nerve function. Misalignments can create pressure on nerves, leading to pain, numbness, and a variety of health issues. Chiropractic adjustments correct these misalignments, improving nervous system function and allowing the body to operate at its best.
Chiropractors in Calgary are trained to work with the delicate structures of the spine to relieve this nerve pressure, leading to improved health outcomes for many patients. Whether you're dealing with a specific issue like sciatica or simply want to boost your overall wellness, chiropractic care offers a powerful means of enhancing nervous system health.
Stress Relief and Improved Mental Health
Chronic pain and discomfort can take a toll on mental health, leading to increased stress, anxiety, and even depression. Chiropractic care not only alleviates physical pain but also helps manage stress and improve mental well-being. Regular chiropractic visits promote relaxation, balance, and emotional stability, which are essential for mental health.
At a chiro wellness center, treatments such as relaxation massages play a key role in reducing stress levels. Massage therapy complements chiropractic adjustments by calming the nervous system, easing muscle tension, and helping the body release endorphins, which improve mood and promote a sense of well-being.
Boosted Immune System
A healthy nervous system is directly connected to a healthy immune system. By ensuring proper spinal alignment, chiropractic care supports your body’s ability to fight off illness. This is especially beneficial for individuals with compromised immune systems or those who are frequently exposed to viruses and bacteria.
Regular visits to a Calgary chiropractor can strengthen your immune system, providing you with an added layer of protection against seasonal illnesses and common infections. The chiropractic approach to health fosters a resilient body, ready to face whatever comes its way.
Accessible and Affordable Care
Compared to other forms of healthcare, chiropractic services are often more affordable and accessible. Many chiropractic centers in Calgary offer payment plans or work with insurance providers, making it easier for individuals to access the care they need. The cost-effective nature of chiropractic care allows patients to receive ongoing support without facing financial strain, making it a practical solution for pain management and wellness.

Okay here’s the hard part.
I think a lot about that guy, so called Jesus, and his philosophy of radical forgiveness and empathy. For a long time I thought that was just a line abusers use to force their victims to forgive them (AND IT IS)
But! I also think about Lucifer and the things he taught me regarding the concept of hell. If I was the ruler of hell and I had to manage all these terrible people, what would I do? Torture them? Give them endless suffering so they feel guilty? Do to them what they did to others so they can understand how bad it feels?
Latinos who voted for Trump, oh you disappoint me, but no, I don’t want you to be deported. Women who voted for Trump, *sigh*, no, I don’t want to see you get an ectopic pregnancy or carry your dead baby. No I do not want all those conservative gays to lose their right to marriage. And no, I don’t even want all of those fucked up fascist nazi racists to die.
It would be SO satisfying to see them get what they deserve, right?
God, I’m so sick of being apart of a species that loves to conquer. We bleed, they win, they bleed, we win. I’m sick of patching wounds. All I see is hellfire.
My friend Taylor Mcnallie is facing fraudulent charges because of an altercation that happened while she was protesting in Calgary. The bitch of a cop who assaulted her not only received no punishment, she got a fucking promotion. I remember during one of Taylor’s speeches someone said something like “I hope she gets arrested and goes to jail,” and Taylor said, “I don’t hope she goes to jail. Jail shouldn’t exist. I just want her to get fired and apologize. That’s all I want.”
Pacifism, true pacifism, like the kind that guy preached about, doesn’t mean laying down and accepting every terrible thing assholes do to you with a smile. It means taking away their ability to harm without harming them yourself. Eliminating the evil without becoming evil. Punching nazis does not make you a nazi, but praying for the death and destruction of people, human beings, because you hate them as much as they hate you? *sigh*
The hardest part about this whole radical empathy thing, is the fact that I cannot even wish harm upon those who want me dead. Isn’t that funny? That literal neo nazi, yeah, I hope he has shelter. Fuck I hope that rapist still eats tonight. I hope he feels shame until the day he dies, but I don’t hope he gets raped in prison. I don’t even want him in prison to be honest, I want him to be cared for, and I want his ability to do harm stripped away.
“Even if he hurts a child?”
God damn it, yes. I can’t add more suffering into the world, even if it is inflicted upon the people I’d love to hate most. I want to take away his power to do evil, I want everyone to know what kind of person he is and the terrible things he does so they can keep themselves safe… and then I want him to be safe.
I want all those terfs to have clean drinking water. I know they hate my guts, ugh, it is what it is. But praying that they experience the pain they’ve caused me, hoping that they die or suffer only makes me more like them.
WHICH SUCKS. This way of thinking is NOT satisfying AT ALL!!! Being vindictive and petty is FUN and it FEELS GOOD!!! That’s why it’s so fucking easy, and that’s why we keep eating each other over and over again.
Having said all of this, we should definitely bring back the guillotine lmao. I’m not saying that we should be super nice to people who are trying to kill us, do fight back. If the people need to kill their oppressors to be free then, hey, I’m not going to tell them they’re wrong for that. This isn’t a “we should all hug and sing kumbaya together! Kindness is always the way!!!” take. If the only way to bring death to the empire is to bring death to its owners, then so be it. Do so in the way that produces the least amount of degradation to your soul.
But wishing natural disasters on Texas, hoping that that racist woman’s parents get deported, out of spite and hatred… what are they doing to you? What are you doing to yourself?
Humanity is disgusting, truly truly abhorrent. I want to be able to look at us and embrace us with acceptance of that. Every single fucking terrible person on this earth deserves liberty, life, and freedom. Even when you spit in my face and hurt the people I love, damn it, I won’t hurt you. I see you as a rabid animal that needs to be sedated and slowly acclimated to compassion. And I will keep trying, even if you never learn. I can’t give up on humanity.
This is the most important and the hardest part. I’m not telling you to forgive, forgiveness is for you. If it doesn’t serve you, don’t forgive. But don’t let people without humanity kill the humanity that exists within you. Don’t let hatred fester in your soul. You’re allowed to be mad, hell, you should be furious. Let that fury keep you warm, but do not become a monster too.
To all you stupid fucking fascist pieces of shit, I hope you get exactly what you deserve. And what you deserve is not death, pain or suffering. It’s self reflection and growth, guilt and humility. As much as I would enjoy seeing you hurt, I refuse to become like you. And damn it I love you, I love every human being on this planet. I love you so much that I cannot become you. I love you so fucking much that I will continue to fight for your rights even when you’re trying to take mine away. and I hate that I love you like this, but I can’t stop.
So I will stop you.
- James Baldwin

A man from a First Nation in southern Alberta has filed a human rights complaint against the provincial health agency and a local hospital, alleging anti-Indigenous discrimination led to the death of his wife.
The complaint filed by Benedict Crow Chief of Siksika Nation says his wife, Myra Crow Chief, died in April 2022, because staff and doctors at the Strathmore District Health Services hospital failed to disclose to them that she had active abdominal bleeding.
The complaint alleges doctors knew about her condition but she was not given medication to manage her pain and was ignored by nurses.
Crow Chief wiped away tears Thursday as he described the ordeal at a news conference on the First Nation 100 kilometres east of Calgary.
"Clearly my late wife's condition was urgent. Her death was preventable. Why are our hospitals taking in patients when they're just going to discharge us without proper care and attention?" he said as he grabbed a tissue. [...]

Meet cute with bowie for leon and matthew
Bowie is the secret ingredient at least 75% of the time.
50. Meet cute
It's not like they don't get snow in St. Louis, but Matthew was woefully unprepared for the reality of Calgary winters. And somehow he always manages to forget about said reality during the summer and then be surprised by it all over again. Not so much "we're going to Disneyland!" surprised as "we thought you just needed a cleaning but you actually have three cavities to be filled" surprised.
It's not actually actively snowing right now, but the remnants of last night are piled high and the sidewalks are slippery as hell. Matthew is cursing himself for the dozenth time for being stupid enough to think that he didn't need to wear his heavy-duty boots when a frantic voice rises up behind him.
"Bowie! Bowie, STOP!"
Things happen too quickly for Matthew to really process. He turns around in time to see a dog come bounding up the sidewalk, slip on the same ice that Matthew's been battling, and start to skid toward the street where a car is just starting to turn.
Matthew doesn't think. He just dives for the dog, catching it before it can go into the road, and lands flat on his ass on the sidewalk.
"Fuck." That's about all he can manage. The wind has been thoroughly knocked out of him and there's a stinging pain radiating through his tailbone. The dog is nosing curiously at his face, apparently completely unaware that Matthew just saved its furry little butt.
"Oh my god," the frantic voice says. "Oh my god, are you okay?!"
"Yeah," Matthew answers through a wince, carefully pushing himself up to sitting. When he looks up, he’s greeted by an extremely worried, extremely attractive face.
“Thank you so much,” the owner of the face says. “And sorry. Shit, I probably should’ve said that in the other order. Sorry. Again. Are you okay? Again?” It feels a little incongruous that someone who looks like that could sound so awkward, and Matthew is automatically charmed.
“Yeah, I’m okay,” Matthew assures him. He’s pretty sure it’s true — he didn’t hit his head and the literal pain in his ass is subsiding. On the other hand, he wishes he didn’t look like such a hot mess in front of a guy with such nice eyes and such good hair, but that’s really a separate issue.
“I can’t believe you did that,” the guy says. The worry is being replaced by something like admiration. Matthew definitely does not mind having that directed at him.
“All in a day’s work,” he says. “Yesterday I climbed a tree to rescue a kitten. The fire department was furious.” That gets him a laugh, a very nice-sounding one. “Uh, here’s your dog.”
“Really, I don’t know how to thank you,” the guy says, pulling the dog close. “The leash just slipped and I couldn’t catch him…”
“It’s no big deal,” Matthew says.
“We’ll have to agree to disagree on that one,” he answers. “I’m Leon. And this little devil is Bowie.”
“Matthew.” He moves to stand up and Leon puts a hand on his arm to help him. Jesus, his hands are big. Fuck it, Matthew’s going to go for it. If it’s weird, he can always dive back into the snow until Leon leaves. “If you want to thank me, how about you buy me a cup of coffee?”
Apparently it’s not weird, because Leon breaks into a wide grin.
“I can do that.”
Matthew is really looking forward to finding out what else he can do to make Leon smile like that.

;; Something Blue Chapter Four of Just Me & You for @wyattjohnston
Table of Contents Chapter Three «« 🤍 »» Playlist
Summary: The big day has arrived, Daphne will officially be Mrs. Heatherington, but Charlotte must navigate it all while dealing with the aftershock of her night with Adam. Word Count: 4,500+
The sunlight filtering in through a part in the curtains was enough to render Charlie’s alarm useless, but it didn’t leave her any less groggy as the light pulled her from her sleep. There was no shrill chime of her alarm, only birds chirping, and yet her mind was heavy. Her temples throbbed with the reminder of just how much she had to drink during the night - even if she had crawled into bed feeling on the verge of sobriety - and her mind was swarming with all that had happened in the night. From the shots of vodka and Red Bull to crawling into bed with tears streaming down her cheeks she remembered it all. It left her slow and sullen as she reached for her phone to check the time, only to freeze when she caught the figure of a man sitting at the end of the bed with a coffee in his hand and bags pack at his feet.
Her tired eyes blinked twice. Once to try to rid them of the semblance of sleep that continued to hang over Charlie. Then again as they focused on Wesley as if she thought he was an illusion - but his form hunched over at the foot of the bed was far from a figment of her imagination. Slowly, she moved out from under the blankets, baring her legs along with her loose sleep shorts and the pink long-sleeved shirt she had pulled on before crawling into bed late in the night after coming in feeling frozen from her still-wet slip dress.
Her legs came down to hang over the side of the bed as a hand came to her face to push her hair back, and before she could focus, his strong words hit her with such intent it felt like she had been hit by a truck: “This Adam, he’s just one of Dillon’s old teammates?” His tone was enough to tell Charlie that he had been thinking about what to say long before her body had even considered waking up.
“Yeah,” Charlie shrugged her shoulders, her head lulling to the side as she looked down the length of the bed and to Wesley who had yet to look directly at her, “in Swift Current.”
“That’s right, you would go with Daphne to the games there. Drive all the way from Calgary to fucking Saskatchewan to watch hockey,” his tone was strained, uneven. Wesley was holding back, his teeth gritting as if the conversation he was forcing on her pained a part of him, “the two of you. You spent a lot of time out there?”
Charlie shifted uncomfortably in the bed, her hands coming together in her lap so she could wring at her own fingers. It was only with that comfort she found herself answering his question, “Almost every weekend.”
“But you’ve never brought up Adam,” Wesley spoke pointedly, the bed shifting as he stood up to pace at the foot of the bed, his eyes still cast down towards the floor. “Which is funny, you’d think you’d bring up the fact that you were friends with someone so,” Wesley paused, struggling with his words, “so strongly recognized in his field.”
“We aren’t friends-” and it wasn’t a lie, not really. Could you really consider yourself friends with someone you were seeing for the first time in seven years?
“Aren’t friends?” Wesley scoffed, the semblance of a laugh creeping into his words. “That’s funny Charlotte. Real funny."
Reaching into his pocket Wesley drew out his cell phone and threw it face up on the bed. The screen was still bright with life, the Instagram post Daphne had posted the night before clear to see. But Wesley wasn't admiring the way she looked in her dress or the candid smile Daphne had managed to capture. Wesley was looking at the comments.
Picking it up slowly, Charlie cradled it in her hands and let a single thumb scroll up. Most comments were about Daphne and how beautiful she was in her dress. Others went on and on about some of the player's girlfriends, but then the occasional comment had been about her; Charlie and just who she was, what her Instagram handle was and how she happened to know Daphne. Charlie gripped the phone a little tighter, impressed and nervous all at once. The women of the internet never failed to find what they were looking for, and if they didn't have the information it only took one message to a friend and suddenly they were like the top detective of a crime drama - and not only had they successfully identified her, they had brought up Swift Current and some speculated that she was now finally dating Adam.
Placing the phone back down Charlie looked up at Wesley with a nervous gaze. He wasn't asking because he wanted answers, he was asking to test her. To see if she was going to be honest with him.
"You know, I was coming back down to the dock last night, but then I saw you. Half naked and hanging off of him in the water-” Charlie’s stomach fell, her skin going pale as she squeezed her hand tighter to keep it from trembling. Just how much had he seen? She would never know. Wesley didn’t care about the details, not when he was so close to reaching the conclusion of the point he was trying to make.
“-and then this morning, I was talking to Dillon in the kitchen. Do you know what he told me? He told me that he had Adam to thank for meeting Daphne because if he had never played for Swift Current, you would have never brought Daphne out to the games.”
Charlie didn’t try to meet his gaze any longer, her own eyes dropping to her lap as her teeth came down to bite at her lower lip. There it was, the one thing she had been trying so desperately to keep from him came to light - and she couldn’t even be mad about it. Dillon didn’t know the secret that she had been keeping from Wesley nor would he have known why she had worked so desperately to keep that part of her life so vague but it was all for not now as it was coming undone all around her.
Wesley’s heavy footsteps echoed as he approached, the floorboards squeaking and his shadow consuming her as he came to stand in front of her at the side of the bed. It was then he spoke, his voice low and firm, “So, what is really going on here, Charlotte?”
“It’s nothing,” she was too quick to answer, her words a weak yelp, “we just grew up together-”
“And you didn’t think that was something I should know?” Wesley scoffed so aggressively she knew his eyes had to be rolling without having to look at him, “what else haven’t you told me-” his words broke as he lowered down to kneel at her feet. Her wrist failed to have the attractive glimmer of her bracelet - the delicate piece of jewellery forgotten on the floor of the treehouse - and it had him reaching out for her wrist before she could pull away.
His touch was rough, his fingers less than gentle as they squeezed at Charlie’s wrist to pry her hands away from one another. The action left her gasping, his hand twisting her arm as he examined every inch of skin he hadn't been allowed to see. It was as he exposed that inside of her wrist that the dainty tattoo met his gaze and his words fell into a growl, “he’s your ex, isn’t he?”
Charlie was quick to counter, her words a desperate plea, “No, no, Adam and I we never dated-”
But Wesley was quicker to interrupt her with the harsh reality of it all, “But you’ve fucked him.”
The statement reduced her to silence, her gaze cast aside for a moment before letting them rise to meet his eyes for the first time. There was no denying it. It could be seen all across her face as it softened into a sullen stare that told him more than words ever could. She had slept with Adam - and for a time maybe she had regretted it and would have tried to deny it, but she wasn’t going to deny it now. Not when she knew Wesley would have never believed her. Not when she didn’t care what happened now that he knew about the nature of the relationship she and Adam had once shared.
Wesley didn’t speak another word as she watched his features harden at the realization that his accusation was in fact a true statement. She had fucked him, and he didn’t need any further confirmation than the look in her eye. Whether it had been years ago before they had started dating or the night before - one time, or many - he didn’t care. There would be no forgiving her now that he knew he had been keeping this secret from him for so long. So his grip on her wrist weakened and he fell into a full retreat with no explanation of where he was going or if she should be going back to the condo they shared once the weekend was over. He said not a single word as he abandoned his coffee cup on the bedside table, retrieved his bags and left Charlie alone in the bedroom with the door wide open.
Charlie made no effort to chase after him and didn’t make a single plea for him to stay. Instead, she arched over, rested her head in her hands, and listened as his heavy footsteps echoed through the hall, down the steps, and disappeared as he left out the front door. Then, came the engine of the rental car coming to life, and the crinkle of the tires against the dirt road as he made his leave. It should have reduced her to tears - the apparent end of any five-year relationship should have - but Charlie only found calm and peace.
A peace that was interrupted by light, hurried steps as they moved through the summer home and up the steps. Footsteps that only fell silent as Daphne came to stand in the doorway with her makeup already done and her hair a mess of blonde curls that had yet to be completely set. She had surely abandoned her salon chair at Wesley’s loud exit as her features were caught somewhere between perplexed and concerned.
Charlie offered her no explanation, no clarity. She couldn’t. Not when she hadn’t told her the reason she and Adam had lost touch all those years ago because she had slept with him. Maybe there could be a time when Charlie could tell her the truth, but her wedding day was not the day to do it. Instead, Charlie managed a smile, let herself stand up from the bed, and when she spoke her words were light, and free from any sadness that one would think would be consuming her, “Now don’t you look beautiful. A little silly with your hair like that, but beautiful.”
She watched as Daphne’s brows furrowed, a little taken back from the tone in her voice before she was consumed by a smile that crept up onto her features. A smile that had been fueled by Charlie’s compliment. “I really do don’t, I?” Her tone had been chipper as Daphne spun in place, giving Charlie a look at her from all angles before her face fell again. Her eyes narrowed and her lips pursed as she looked at Charlie as if to silently tell her, your flattery isn’t going to distract me from why I came up here.
Hands came up to the rest of her hips, her head cocking to the side as she spoke, “What happened with Wesley.”
“Oh? He left-” Charlie didn’t get to finish, Daphne was already rolling her eyes.
“Oh, he left,” Daphne parroted, “dammit Charlie, you’ve been keeping things from me since the moment you arrived here and I just want to be here for you.” Daphne was defeated as she stepped forward to sit down beside Charlie on the bed. “You didn’t trust me enough to help you through whatever went on with you and Adam, and you’re keeping things from me now and I just watched your boyfriend take off down the drive as if he had just committed a crime! I get it, maybe it’s my fault that we aren’t as close as we used to be but-”
Daphne was rambling, her worry lines clear on her forehead and Charlie only knew one way to shut her up - because the last thing she wanted was to have this consume her wedding day. “I kissed Adam.”
Then the air was silent, the blonde’s eyes going wide in disbelief. Then, she finally spoke out her words hesitant as if her tongue was unable to speak them, “You kissed Adam?”
Charlie could only nod.
“When?”
“Which time?”
“More than once?” Daphne couldn’t believe it. Her head was in her hands her fingers smudging her makeup that would undoubtedly need to be redone - or at the very least touched up, “and I’m just finding out now?”
Charlie sighed, it wasn’t the full truth, but it was enough of the truth to ease Daphne’s frustrations, “We didn’t exactly advertise it.”
“Is that why you and Adam-”
“Yeah, that’s why.”
“Shit, Charlie if I had known-”
“You wouldn’t have invited him?” Charlie challenged. She knew Adam would have been involved one way or another. He was one of Dillon’s longest friends, and Charlie would have never asked them to make such a sacrifice just to have her in attendance.
“I wouldn’t have been so insistent,” Daphne sighed, her head still in her hands. “I could have done something, like sit you at opposite ends of the table or something! I was so caught up in having everything the way I wanted it that I didn’t even consider the two of you. I’m so sorry Charlie, I am. Is there anything I can do? Anything I can say to Wes to try to make this better?”
Looking away, Charlie bit down on her tongue. There was no mending of her relations with Wes, and even if there was she didn’t want it. With him gone, there was a weight lifted from her chest and shoulders. Now, she just had to survive the wedding and put her night with Adam behind her. “It’s okay, Daph, really. I think this is exactly what needed to happen,” Charlie managed a smile as she stood up from her place on the bed, “Now, let’s get you back downstairs so they can finish getting you ready,” Charlie spoke pointedly, her chin nodding back towards the door so Daphne could fall back into the path she had taken in a rush.
Charlie took a quick shower before she followed in the path Daphne had undoubtedly taken to return to her preparations. Her strides were slow and quiet as she eased herself into the wedding day festivities that had begun without her. She was greeted with mimosas and coffee, and breakfast was a buffet similar to that from the day before. Charlie didn’t hesitate to indulge in the sweet fruit or the salty bacon - Wesley wasn’t there to hold her back anymore. She enjoyed every bite and soon became lost in the rush that was the final preparations for the ceremony that was only hours away.
There was hair and makeup to be done and pictures to be taken. The flash of the camera was seemingly all she could see as the day became a blur of events. From the pictures before the wedding where she posed with Daphne and the bridal party to the moment she was walking down the aisle with one of Dillon’s groomsmen on her arm, Charlie had been on autopilot. Not once did her composure slide. Not even when her mind fell on Wesley and how he had left her for she was not all that sad. For years she had been telling herself that he was the one. That he would be her forever, and yet she was never fully convinced. Wesley had just been convenient, filling up a hole in her she had been desperately trying to fill. Then, he had been consuming. Inviting her into every part of his life, even if that meant giving up parts of her own. She discarded her dreams for a career she hadn't wanted. She let go of friendships to assure her time could be spent solely with his friends and their partners. He had become all she had, and she should have said goodbye long ago before so much of her life had been wasted.
It was that thought that was on her mind when she found herself sitting alone at the head table during the wedding reception. Dinner had long ago been served, and the dancefloor was brought to life with music as Daphne and Dillon took to its center for their first dance as husband and wife. Their song was something cliche and heard at many weddings before theirs but Charlie couldn’t judge she wouldn’t be married any time soon, if ever. The dull thought almost left her laughing as she took hold of her champagne glass and gave it a long sip. She very much intended to get so drunk she wouldn’t remember her friend’s wedding night, but the scrape of the chair against the ground beside her was quick to put that thought to rest.
Beside her, had once been Daphne’s seat - her plate still half full from dinner - but now, it belonged to Adam. Charlie watched out of the corner of her eye as he shifted the chair just right, turning it so he was facing her and not the dancefloor and so that his knee was pressed up against her leg as they sat at the head table. Then, he was leaning in. With the pink tie he had dawned all day lost, and his shirt collar relaxed so that his dress shirt was falling away from his neck as he leaned into Charlie. The top few buttons of his shirt had since worked free of their buttonholes and she had to fixate her eyes back on the dancefloor to keep herself from staring at the angles of his collarbone as they were exposed to her. Yet, the music alone wasn’t enough to distract her from his words as his hot breath spread over the shell of her ear:
“I heard about what happened, for what it’s worth, I’m sorry.”
Charlie’s lips curled up into a smile as she pressed them firmly together. It was the only thing she could do to keep herself from laughing as she shook her head slowly from side to side. She was far from convinced as she turned her head just enough for their eyes to meet, “Oh, yeah,” she hummed out, “I’m sure you are.”
“I am, I mean, you guys seemed happy-” With his words, Adam’s soft concern had been lost. His face was quickly consumed by a smile that he tried so desperately to suppress, but there was no hiding it from the brightness of his eyes. Adam couldn’t keep a straight face, not while he was trying desperately to maintain a facade of compassion. “Okay, that was a lie,” he admitted, a chuckle in his words as he leaned in a bit further, his hand dropping down to rest casually against her thigh, “You looked fucking miserable. You weren’t yourself while you were with him, Charlie-”
Charlie let out a soft, unimpressed HA that was punctuated with a long sip of her champagne. “Says the man who hadn’t seen me in seven years.”
It should have meant something to have not seen each other for that long. For their contact to have been nothing more than a few late-night phone calls and social media stalking sessions during quick trips to the bathroom, they should have become strangers in that time. She shouldn’t have been able to recognize him yesterday morning. He shouldn’t have so easily been able to find his place back in her life at the table during brunch. She shouldn't have been so eager to fall back into his arms and welcome his sweet kiss the moment they were finally alone together. Yet, they had come together so flawlessly as if no time had passed between them since that New Year's Eve. They would always know each other better than anyone, and she both loved and hated that.
But what she hated more was what Adam had to say, “That wasn’t my choice Charlie.” And he was right. She had been the one to force him away when her schedule had become too hectic to maintain any semblance of a relationship between them - but at the time, it had just seemed easier.
“What are you trying to say, Adam?” Charlie nearly yelped out, her words unsteady as his hand left her thigh and found her wrist, and stroked over the tattoo over her pulse point.
Adam didn’t hesitate to answer, “I’ve missed you Charlie and I-” but the DJ was quick to cut him off with a quick announcement that called the bridal party to the floor. It was their time to dance.
Slackjawed, Charlie abandoned her drink on the table and began to stand. Unsteady hands smoothed her gown over her curves, and her shoulder shook with a heavy breath in an attempt to find her composure as her eyes sought out the groomsman she had walked down the aisle with - but Adam had other plans. He muttered out a quick, “Not a chance,” as the groomsman approached, and pushed passed him just enough to move to the end of the head table, his hand reached out for Charlie to take. The conversation wasn’t over.
Offering the groomsman an apologetic look, Charlie took hold of Adam’s hand and let him guide her out to the dancefloor. He towered over her even with the heels she still wore on her feet, her neck having to lean back so she could look up at him as he guided her into a slow dance. His hand rested on the small of her back, her body pressed to his - closer than people who were just friends would comfortably allow - and he leaned in, his back arching so he could speak into her ear as they danced; “Letting you push me away was the biggest mistake I’ve ever made.”
His words left her heart aching as she considered pulling away. Was this a conversation she was willing to have? Could Charlie accept that pushing Adam away was a mistake? That maybe, even after all this time, Adam had been the one? The thought had tears building in her eyes, the threat to her mascara imminent as she met Adam’s eyes. “If we’re going to have this conversation tonight. I’m going to need you to tell me what we are-”
Adam failed to hesitate as if he had been waiting to say these words for years, “You have been my best friend, my biggest fan. My biggest mistake was not making you mine - and this if you want this the way I want this, it’s not going to just be for the night. It’s going to be the way it should have been a long time ago. You and me forever, Charlie.”
“Adam I-” Charlie was at a loss for words, her lips parting in an uneven breath as her eyes flickered over Adam’s features. His eyes were soft as they gazed down at her, his expression on the edge of regret as he spilled his heart out to her. Adam was trying to say one thing without having to say it at all, and she didn’t blame him. They had only just reconnected after so many years apart, and she had only been single for mere hours - and while she hadn’t been happy, there was a great risk in losing each other all over again if something too bold had been said. But it needed to be said. He needed to say it, and she needed to hear it.
Yet, Charlie much like Adam, couldn’t just say it in return. That wasn’t who they were, not before and not now, and instead she just smiled as she looked up at him her tone teasing as she spoke, “I don’t think you’re supposed to make those kinds of promises at-”
Adam was quick to cut in, his smile splitting, she wasn’t saying no, “At what? A wedding? I’ll get down on my knee and make a scene Charlie, you know I will. I know I didn’t make an effort back then, but I will spend every day trying to show you that I have loved you and that I will never stop loving you for as long as you let me.”
It shouldn’t have shocked her that he said it. That he had actually said it without finding something else to say that could maybe mean the same thing if you heard it just right. The shock had reduced her to silence, her eyes going wide as her hand squeeze a little tighter around his hand that had once guided them in circles on the dance floor but now they both stood still. Wedding guests had since joined the wedding party on the floor, creating chaos around them but it was all lost on them as they only stared at each other.
Adam waited, his eyes patient as he was met with nothing but silence from Charlie, the shock of hearing those words consuming her still. It sent her lip quivering, the words on the very tip of her tongue but it wasn’t until Adam began to lower himself down onto one knee that Charlie was pulled from the trance he had sent her into.
Her hands left his hold and lurched for the breast of his suit jacket and she clutched the fabric firmly in both hands to keep his knee from hitting the floor. Charlie wasn’t going to let him cause such a scene. Not when their parents were out there somewhere in the crowd of guests. Not when Daphne and Dillon were dancing so nearby and had undoubtedly seen the scene he was trying to create. Not when they all had not one inclination of what had really happened between the two of them eight years prior at Christmas. Charlie wasn’t about to let him propose to her in the middle of the dance floor, as a joke or not, in her heart she knew she would say yes and she would not be the person who got engaged at her friend's wedding.
Instead of letting him cause his scene, Charlie was drawing Adam in, her smile splitting wide to match his that was on the verge of laughter. Their lips met in a kiss, one that was far from simple as she spilled every ounce of feeling into it. Every ounce of longing, the pain of losing him once and the love that had always been there, longer than she had even realized, it could all be felt there as they stood at the center of the dance floor with her fists clutching his chest as his hands found their way into her hair to cradle her head in his hands. Even when they both drew back, his hands remained there, his thumbs stroking over her cheeks as she looked up at him. Charlie could only smile. Things would be complicated, but she was willing to try again - but first with all the attention they had drawn out on the dance floor, the bride and groom included, she and Adam had a lot of explaining to do.

Senior men SP results and Stephen's protocol from 2024 Nationals.
I want to start off by acknowledging that Stephen gave his best for this skate. He's clearly not in a condition where he should be competing. It almost looks like the back injuries which kept him out of competition in 2020-2021 have returned. Coach Barkell is saying he's had a flare up
Following Stephen Gogolev’s laboured short program performance to “The Sound of Silence” by Distributed-Immortalized” in which he managed no successful triple or quadruple jumps, his coach Lee Barkell advised that the 2023 Autumn Classic bronze medalist is nursing a “flare up in his back” which started four days ago. Gogolev did not practice today and only landed doubles in the warm up. Barkell said they are assessing his health “minute by minute” and “the intention is to keep going” and “keep him in a good mindset.” He scored 53.80 in the SP and sits in 13th place. Gogolev is reportedly getting ongoing physiotherapy in Calgary.
Seeing him cry breaks my heart. Someone go cheer him up, please.
Considering his condition the fact that he even tried a quad Salchow is crazy. He still got a level 3 step sequence and level 4 spins. He's shown so much progress in committing to the choreo even when things have gone wrong. You can tell he was in pain, especially after the 4S, but he kept going.
I would like him to withdraw and go heal. I know a lot of things were at stake at this event, but all of that is a moot point. He does not need to make his injury worse for some non-podium finish. And none of us want a Stephen who is too injured to live his life away from this sport. It was enough to see him show up and try his best. And he had a beautiful costume as well. I have always wished to see him in green, a colour that complements his eyes, and he gave us that. Maybe he can keep his programs for next season and we can enjoy them again. For now what's most important is getting better. I know he's ultra competitive and the last thing he wants to do is WD but you have to look at the bigger picture right now - if he gets even more injured and misses another entire season it's going to be a nightmare. We love Stephen and wish him the best. So please go and take care of yourself. We'll be excitedly awaiting your return.

Hometober Day 3
Today's prompt was "a vision of home", based on the 3 months of living with my aunt Lossie [yes she's my godmother] in her big mansion-like house. Her bedroom was one of my favourite places to be, it was the ideal master bedroom in the early 2000s and it was quite hard to pick a colour for it, but the soft yellows from the morning light made it look like heaven to me as a kid. More detail under the read more, but otherwise hope you enjoy!
My aunt was a co-CEO of a law firm with my uncle, so they lived very comfortably and supported all of her kids through school and extracurriculars. My cousins had the coolest bedrooms, the basement was massive and decked out [you might see it in a later entry] and her backyard was large and ornate, and had a fancy gate that led into a forest trail. A large portion of my time in Calgary was spent idolizing her and all she had, she was the pinnacle of success to me. She fed me the large double chocolate chip muffins, gave me fancy vitamins and her home was so huge it was like discovering a new city to explore. But as stated, her bedroom was my favourite. It started with an inside balcony with a fancy little desk and chair that led you to a beautiful ensuite where she placed my daycare projects. [I felt like I won a gold medal in life when I saw them there]. Then these giant white double doors led to the bedroom, very spacious and brightly lit, and the slanted roof ceiling was the coolest thing ever to me. She had gorgeous decorations and fancy throw pillows, and it led into the biggest bathroom and tub I have ever and still have ever seen. The entire area was like a princess' castle and I felt spoiled when she let me walk around and sit on the bed to watch TV. I wore fancy dresses and lace-trimmed socks [any Latino will know what I'm talking about] and I battted my lashes at everyone I spoke to because I thought it made me more ladylike and I wanted to fit in with the fancy lady vibes of the house.
Looking back on it, those 3 months were very important to my formative years, learning manners at the table and how to speak English very quickly [to specify these 3 months took place right after Christmas from the last picture so I had just turned 4] so I'm thankful she was able to cater for us and keep us above water while my parents managed immigration stuff. However, I recognize as well that these memories while precious to my childhood, were built on a painful falsehood. My aunt married my uncle and assumed her position at that building through the marriage, a building my mom and dad were hired to clean while I sat in one of the break rooms reading or staring at the jellybean jar in a glass stand down the hall. My aunt used her kindness and goodwill to keep my parents in her favour, and especially bent my dad's thoughts to her side of things. While I loved going to her house for parties and family reunions and playing with my cousins, she continued her guise while talking down my mom and sister. She used my idolizing of her against them, and the whole house was a beautiful glass present wrapped in fancy antiques and overcompensation for the children she did and didn't bear. I loved that house, and the good times I had. But if I ever visit it again, I know for sure it'll be in a brand new light. It was the last sense of "home" I felt before I moved to Ontario and sometimes I feel a small little piece of myself still clinging to the deep brown doors of her home and the upper-class vibes of the neighbourhood I still look back on fondly. Who knows, really.
#october prompts#october 2023#drawtober#monochrome#calgary#bunart#estoy la#hometober#hometober 2023#hometober day 3#tia lossie's house is a very gray space for my memories#its one of the most confusing and conflicting memories I have#ive had many long and sad talks with my sister about it and even now i know i don't have the entire story#i sometimes get the urge to hop on the next plane there and kick her door down and confront her#but a girl needs time and patience and plan#maybe one day ill tell her how I feel and finally cut it off for good#she didnt have a perfect life being the second oldest of 9#but i dont think any of it excuses what she did#im sure theres many reasons she wasnt there for her sister's 50th this past may#sorry this was a downer#but Im happy honestly to finally start expressing these feelings I've been humming and hawing about for years and years#thanks if youre reading this#your memories are yours to make of it#but dont let them consume the day to day joys and wins of now#or the love of those around you and yourself#have a great day!

15 years of disability
Here we are, on the an anniversary I never wanted, March 24, 2008.
15 years since acquiring tardive dystonia.
Let’s catch up a bit then, shall we?
First thing; still happily married to the same person, who has also became my primary caregiver.
Which leads me into, yup, I still very much have tardive dystonia and it hasn’t gotten any better. I have good days and bad days. But I’m safe and taken care of.
I also found out that I have an inoperable osteochondroma (bone growth) on my right tibia that has given me no end of acute chronic pain from apparently my early teen years onwards.
I smoke 120g of cannabis a month to manage both the tardive dystonia and acute chronic pain (and the accompanying depression, or whatever having no functional dopamine to speak of is, that goes with such things)
We currently have one cat, her name is Mystique and we’ve had her for a while now. Both Poptart and Charlie passed.
We live on the western end of downtown Calgary, in the Beltline. Great place to be.
COVID-time has compelled me to pretty much stay inside (aside from vaccinations+boosters, doctors appointments, voting and rare time of eating outside or in very well ventilated areas) and while she has to go out to work and deal household related activities, she (and we) both wear masks when we’re not in the apartment (including the hallway to the elevators). We’ve never had COVID and if we continue to be careful, then we may get through this without acquiring it. We’ve forsaken a lot in order to not get sick. We’re getting updated boosters on Sunday!
For my particular point of view, I’m back to living like I was up in Falconridge. Stuck.
We moved, in large part, to the Beltline to not be stuck. At least we’re staying safe.
And if you want to reach out and say hi again, you can ask for my email...

How Physiotherapy Helps with Road Accident Treatment in Calgary
Motor vehicle accidents (MVAs) often result in physical injuries that can have long-term effects on your body. Whether you’ve suffered a soft tissue injury, a broken bone, or a more serious injury, physiotherapy can play an integral role in your recovery. For those living in Calgary, finding the right physiotherapist to guide you through road accident treatment or motor vehicle accident treatment in calgary is key to regaining your health and mobility.
What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a type of healthcare treatment that helps patients recover from injuries, manage pain, and improve their physical function. After a road accident, physiotherapists focus on treating musculoskeletal injuries, restoring movement, and strengthening weakened muscles.
In Calgary, physiotherapists have the training and experience to treat a wide variety of road accident injuries, from whiplash to spinal injuries. They assess your specific condition and create a tailored treatment plan to address your unique needs.
Common Injuries Treated by Physiotherapists After a Road Accident
Physiotherapists in Calgary often treat the following injuries resulting from road accidents:
Whiplash: Caused by the sudden jerking of the head during a collision, whiplash can result in neck pain, stiffness, and headaches.
Soft tissue injuries: Damage to muscles and ligaments can cause pain, swelling, and reduced movement.
Fractures and sprains: Physiotherapists help with rehabilitation following broken bones or sprained joints, focusing on regaining mobility.
Spinal injuries: In cases of more severe accidents, physiotherapists assist in spinal rehabilitation to reduce pain and improve posture.
Physiotherapy Treatment Techniques
The specific techniques used by physiotherapists will depend on the nature of the injury. Here are some common treatments you can expect after a road accident in Calgary:
Manual therapy: Hands-on techniques to manipulate muscles and joints, relieving pain and improving range of motion.
Strengthening exercises: Targeting specific muscle groups to restore strength and prevent future injuries.
Stretching exercises: To improve flexibility and alleviate stiffness.
Electrotherapy: Devices like TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) are used to reduce pain and inflammation.
Posture and body mechanics training: To prevent future injuries by promoting proper movement and posture.
The Role of Physiotherapy in Long-Term Recovery
Physiotherapy can be essential in helping individuals recover from road accidents in Calgary. Beyond immediate pain relief, physiotherapy focuses on long-term recovery, ensuring that patients regain full function and reduce the risk of long-term disability.
In many cases, physiotherapy continues even after a patient is discharged from the hospital, with follow-up sessions designed to address ongoing rehabilitation needs. Regular physiotherapy appointments allow patients to track progress and make adjustments to their treatment plan.

How a Spine Doctor in Calgary Can Help You Overcome Chronic Pain
Chronic pain can be incredibly debilitating, affecting every aspect of life, from work to personal relationships. Fortunately, there are specialists equipped to manage and alleviate chronic pain conditions. If you’re experiencing long-term discomfort, visiting a spine doctor in Calgary may be the solution you’ve been seeking. This article will explore the ways in which a Calgary chiropractor, especially those associated with a chiro wellness center, can help with chronic pain, highlighting the roles of family chiropractors, personal training, and innovative technologies like Kinotek.
Understanding Chronic Pain and the Role of Spine Doctors
Chronic pain is often defined as pain lasting longer than three months, affecting the body's nervous system and sometimes leading to physical limitations and emotional stress. Common causes include injuries, nerve damage, or conditions like arthritis. A spine doctor in Calgary specializes in diagnosing and treating spine-related issues, aiming to alleviate pain by addressing the underlying cause rather than merely masking symptoms.
In Calgary, spine doctors and chiropractors offer a range of treatments to address chronic pain effectively. From manual adjustments to physical therapy, these treatments can target pain at its source. Calgary chiropractors provide holistic services in a chiro wellness center, focusing on comprehensive health solutions that go beyond treating symptoms.
The Benefits of Visiting a Calgary Chiropractor
A Calgary chiropractor can provide extensive benefits for chronic pain sufferers, incorporating various strategies to address both immediate pain and long-term healing. Here are several ways they help:
1. Pain Relief Through Chiropractic Adjustments
Chiropractic adjustments are among the most common treatments for chronic pain. These adjustments involve carefully aligning the spine to reduce pressure on nerves and restore natural body posture. When the spine is properly aligned, it can significantly reduce pain in areas affected by misalignment, such as the lower back, neck, and shoulders. These adjustments are particularly beneficial for those suffering from pain related to posture, overuse, or old injuries.
2. Improving Flexibility and Mobility
Poor spinal alignment and pain can limit physical mobility and flexibility. Through a series of adjustments and exercises, Calgary chiropractors work to restore natural movement to the spine, allowing patients to regain flexibility. This increased mobility can help with daily activities, reduce muscle tension, and improve overall quality of life.
3. Holistic Treatments at a Chiro Wellness Center
Calgary chiropractors often work from a chiro wellness center, which promotes a holistic approach to health. These centers may offer a range of treatments, including acupuncture, massage therapy, and physical rehabilitation, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive body care. By working on the entire body, wellness centers help to achieve a balance that relieves chronic pain, improves mental well-being, and promotes long-term health.
4. Personalized Care with Family Chiropractors
Family chiropractors focus on treating patients of all ages, from children to seniors. They understand the unique needs of each family member and provide tailored chronic pain care plans accordingly. For example, they may use gentler techniques for elderly patients while using more active techniques for younger, more athletic family members. The family-oriented approach promotes a supportive environment where everyone can benefit from chiropractic care, making it easier for families to manage chronic pain together.
5. Incorporating Kinotek and Personal Training
One innovative approach that some chiropractors use to enhance their treatments is Kinotek, a technology-driven solution for movement analysis. By observing and analyzing how a patient moves, Kinotek enables chiropractors to develop more targeted treatments that address specific pain points caused by improper movement patterns. This data can also guide personal training plans tailored to improve movement efficiency and reduce pain.
Personal training is often incorporated into chiropractic care to further support healing and prevention. For example, personal trainers in Calgary can design exercise routines that strengthen core muscles, improve posture, and reduce strain on the spine. These exercises contribute to long-term pain management and overall wellness, helping patients maintain results after their chiropractic sessions.
Conditions Treated by Spine Doctors and Chiropractors in Calgary
Chiropractors and spine doctors in Calgary can help with a wide variety of conditions that lead to chronic pain. Some of the most common include:
Lower back pain: Often caused by poor posture, repetitive strain, or injuries, lower back pain is a leading cause of disability. Chiropractic adjustments can relieve lower back pain and restore alignment.
Neck pain and stiffness: Whether from prolonged screen time or poor sleep posture, neck pain can become a chronic issue. Adjustments to the cervical spine help alleviate this discomfort.
Headaches and migraines: Misalignment in the upper spine can contribute to tension headaches and migraines. By adjusting this area, chiropractors can reduce headache frequency and intensity.
Sciatica: Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve is pinched, leading to radiating pain from the lower back down to the legs. Chiropractic care can reduce sciatic pain by relieving pressure on the nerve.
Sports injuries: Athletes often experience chronic pain due to repetitive movements and high-impact activities. Chiropractic treatments, along with personal training, can help athletes manage pain and avoid future injuries.
The Integration of Personal Training and Chiropractic Care
Personal training complements chiropractic care by strengthening muscles that support the spine, thereby reducing the likelihood of recurring pain. Personal trainers, often working closely with chiropractors, design routines that target weak or imbalanced muscles, contributing to a comprehensive recovery plan.
In Calgary, many chiro wellness centers partner with personal trainers to ensure patients receive well-rounded care. By incorporating both chiropractic adjustments and personal training, patients are not only able to relieve existing pain but also take proactive steps toward preventing future discomfort.
