28. fav dancer for sure ten!!!! his crazy skill and his flowy style and is amazing stage presence makes him so captivating to watch and i am SO EXCITED for his upcoming solo

29. fav leader this is ?? so hard /?? a majority of my biases r leaders help LOL hmm as amazing as bang chan and scoups and taeyong are, i think my personal pick is DKB d1 <3 his leadership is the reason i got into DKB when he was helping lead the unit B round in peak time. it was a rare opportunity to see how he helps rookie idols who didn't know him get to feel comfortable and cared for in a high pressure survival show situation. also i love watching him choreograph their blockings for a dance and clean the group during dance practices hehe.

also can i be a hater for 5 seconds but new nct 2023 teasers are not moving me one millimeter like sorry but i’ve lived through nct 2018 through yearbooks through empathy pictures like. We used to have it all being nctzen in 2018 was so fun it was hit after hit after hit. Being nctzen in 2016 was a slay too but i will never forget how i used to get blocked by ppl bc i liked taeyong i #REMEMBER .. alas i am only talking about their nct projects bc that’s a whole other story.

I listened to the on my youth album last year and I loved it kinda made me cry so I am interested in getting to know them but I am extremely lost in where to start :( any advice?

i'm kind of insane about wayv its what i used to be known for on tumblr before i deleted my nct blog so, i'm gonna ramble below the cut

FIRST OF ALL. wayv is my favorite nct unit. just some basic overview:

they debuted in january of 2019 as a cpop group completely separate from nct, under label v (sm entertainment but in disguise and in china)

the connection to nct was always there -- winwin was a member of nct 127 since debut (even before johnny and doyoung was added, and jungwoo was added to 127 to "replace" him) and was never removed from 127 on paper. ten debuted with t7s unit, which was nct's overall debut. kun performed without you (chinese version) when he was a trainee

they debuted with regular (chinese version), which was initially a 127 song. they also had come back (chinese version) on their debut mini, which was also originally a 127 song. technically their first song was dream launch

wayzennies don't consider regular their real debut because fucking sm couldn't be assed to let them debut with their own song smh we hate sm here

their first comeback and their debut in wayzennies' hearts was take off

after that, moonwalk, love talk, turn back time, bad alive, kick back, then they went on a cursed haitus, then they broke hiatus with phantom and now, omy

dream launch, take off, moonwalk, and turn back time are their lore music videos. wayv is the only nct unit to have lore btw!

resonance (nct 2020) was a huge era for us because that was the first time they were officially acknowledged as a unit of nct. before that, fans had to put together compilations of nct members mentioning wayv members, renjun got in trouble for mentioning winwin's name in a vlive once, and taeyong once had a vlive where he said "wayv members are here" (but he had to whisper) and showed them in the distance and waved and everything and the fandom went wild

you really had to be there, all nct units (including wayv) changed their profile pictures for 2020 at the same time and the teaser for the resonance project included shots of wayv. i almost cried.

now. lemme talk about music

wayv is one of the music units, definitely. 127 and wayv both have very distinctive musical identities that are reflected throughout their discography

btw, nct units used to have interludes on their full albums. it's more of a yearly full nct thing now, but it was used in regular (127), neo zone (127), awaken the world (wayv), and then resonance (2020) to kind of pull their entire concept together with the signature nct chime. nct interludes are also just some good music !!!

wayv as a unit has a very dramatic sound, the take off/moonwalk/turn back time holy trinity definitely is very consistent in sound and has prominent rock/orchestral elements in the instrumental plus the signature guitar dance break

a lot of their songs are produced by ldn noise and moonshine

on my youth is actually a departure from their old sound. moonlight sounds most wayv 1.0 in their album. the rest of the album is definitely wayv 2.0, which is great because it kind of signifies their transformation and renewal post-dozen

they have iconic pets. they even have pet merch. my little friends bias is bella, obviously. just look her up on youtube, she peed on livestream more than once and also has pooped on the sm practice room couches before, also is afraid of her own reflection

they had two seasons of wayvision on seezn but it's a korean show and, while certain parts are fun, it was a little awkward. right after debuting they had a show called wayv's dream plan which was filmed in china and a lot more fun

of course because i'm me, if you're chinese speaking you should check out their huya lives. i'm not sure that they're subbed in english tho

for translations i'd recommend bun bun, wayv china station, and faith (she's actually my favorite, she does a great job at translating colloquial language and remaining faithful to the 'vibe' of what was said in chinese)

so… they spilled. mind you, this is how they feel! it's a perspective, not the full reality. still, if you keep up with them and know the company's history, i'm sure you'll be able to put the pieces together and kinda figure out what might be going on. and, you know: everything is alleged and for entertainment purposes only. no facts. what do i know about anything lol. btw... this is a looong one.

Taeil → SM || eight of swords rx, the moon: He feels like they would do anything to save their ass, while throwing others under the bus. They're good to those they feel like being good to and when they feel like it, so it's really hard to know what kind of treatment you're gonna get. Basically, he just feels like it's not easy to trust them fully. Things are never what they seem, even for those who work there.

SM → Taeil || eight of cups, five of wands: He's feisty and pushes for what he wants, but lacks enough strength or focus to carry out with his plans and ideas, so it just ends up leading nowhere. Also, they might be scrambling to come up with something for him to do before he leaves to the military. However, he's very aloof? and unfocused (for lack of a better word) and they just feel like they have to keep poking him in the ribs to get him to move and complete his tasks. There's potential, for sure, but lack of structure and direction.

Johnny → SM || seven of pentacles, two of wands: He actually enjoys being there and working with them. They're giving him some great opportunities (which he's thankful for), and because of it too, he's seeing them build a great future together. Plus, I think they have finally figured out a work system that works for both parties, and that makes them excited to continue on this path together. They're working as a team to figure out which way to go with his career, and he's (overall) feeling optimistic about it.

SM → Johnny || ace of cups, two of swords rx: Again, there's a feeling that they have finally find a good middle ground between their visions and desires. Both sides are much more open and excited to work together right now than they ever were before. They see great potential in him, too - it's only a matter of them getting him to stay active, agreeable and open minded.

Taeyong → SM || judgement rx, seven of wands: He feels like they refuse to recognize/face the obvious issues they have going on, and ignore everyone who tries to warn them or call them out. They're stubborn with their ideas and opinions, and no one can convince them otherwise. He's holding up strong against them, but it's always going to be a battle to make this partnership work. He can never let his guard down.

SM → Taeyong || seven of cups rx, six of wands rx: They think he lost all passion for performing and experimenting (if that makes sense? like, with concepts and music, for example). He keeps cutting them off, rejecting offers and never really engaging in discussions anymore. It's almost as if they feel like he has lost passion for the idol life or that he's being ungrateful for what they did for him by refusing to cooperate. (To be fair, I think they're mistaking his exhaustion for lack of passion, but that's just me… lol.)

Yuta → SM || seven of pentacles, the hanged man rx: Even though he sees a future with them and is thankful for the work they are putting into his career, he still thinks they're rather selfish and close minded, which bothers him. They're unwilling to listen to different opinions and change their ways, plus temporary favoritism might be a big issue with them. In that sense, while he sees/thinks that they're only nice to people when they need them (which might be the case with him right now), he also recognizes that it would be impossible for them to give the same attention to everyone at the same time. I guess he'd just like them to be a little more consistent and fair towards everybody.

SM → Yuta || ten of pentacles rx, seven of cups rx: They feel like he's not giving them enough material to work with. They put in lots of money, but he's not putting in the work (?). I also think they had great plans for him at some point, but things just didn't work out and now they don't know what to do… It's a little like Jaehyun: they're not agreeing on how to move forward; one's vision is not the other's vision. It's also possible that Yuta thinks and moves at a slower pace than them, and they mistake that for him not caring about the projects, which then leads them to lose interest and move on to something/someone else.

Doyoung → SM || seven of cups rx, the empress rx: He feels like they have lost the magic/the touch/the shine. They're too focused on appearances and on looking powerful and innovative, but they're forgetting to take care of the artists/workers who bring everything to life. The environment just isn't all that great… things seem perfect, it seems like a look of money and thought is being put into these projects, and that everybody is very excited, but what goes on behind the scenes is kinda depressing (?). He thinks they're wasting their ideas and resources with dumb stuff, basically. They have it all, but don't know how to use it. The work environment is dull and cold.

SM → Doyoung || two of cups rx, three of cups: The trust between them has been broken, somehow. They still get along, but, at this point, they are aware that he's not willing to play their game anymore; he's not a "yes-man" anymore. So, because of that, I think they're a little more watchful and avoid telling him too much. The partnership just isn't as close as it once might've been, and so the company isn't looking at him or treating him like an "insider" any longer. They're cousins now, not siblings lol.

Ten → SM || seven of wands rx, three of cups rx, the chariot: Ten feels like the company has completely forgotten the real meaning of "unity" and "family", even though they keep on using those words to talk about themselves + the artists under them. They also have the tendency to bite off more than they can chew, and then they are forced to leave things unfinished or put people/projects on the backburner for a long time because they can't carry out their plans as they thought they could.

SM → Ten || knight of pentacles, the sun: They not only see him as a very talented artist, with great potential, but also a very a reliable, honest and hardworking person. He never fails on his commitments, does everything diligently and consistently puts in the work to get his rewards (be it money, promotions or even more work opportunities). Even if they aren't super vocal about it, I'd dare say that he's one of their favorite artists to work with, to be honest… he's a very positive and patient individual; doesn't complain or whine; is responsible and determined… he's just a great guy, all around!

Jaehyun → SM || the fool rx, eight of cups rx: This is pretty much the same as before… he still feels like he has no direction to go on with them. They're just running in circles. Things have gotten dull, repetitive, boring… even to the point of making him lose all excitement to create and explore his artistry. Also, he thinks they still care more about appearances than substance, and never really end up improving anything. Their issues are exactly the same as they were a year ago, two years ago, five years ago… things haven't changed.

SM → Jaehyun || the fool rx, six of swords rx: Same thing, basically. They're stuck. He's not budging and neither are they, so they're just going over the same issues again and again. They still can't see eye-to-eye and agree on a plan to follow. It also feels like someone is holding a grudge? It was either Jaehyun who said/did something that they didn't like or the one way around… but this is definitely hindering their progress. [I've done some others readings on the Jaehyun/SM thing, which kinda explains this a little bit better: X, X]

WinWin → SM || three of cups rx, five of pentacles rx: He's kinda tired of pretending that he likes them and what they're doing (?? lmao). He just doesn't want to act nice and go out of his way to please them anymore. They clearly don't get along, and there's no point in pretending they do - from his pov. He may also feel like an outsider, in a way - moreso like he's not part of the "cool kids club", not that they're putting him aside necessarily. He just never found his way in, and now it's kinda late.

SM → WinWin || high priestess rx, queen of pentacles rx: They can't understand him. He's always keeping secrets and when he does communicate, it always feels like he means something else and they have to figure out what it is. The company doesn't know how to make him more comfortable or, really, get him into the "cool kids club", if you will. He acts like an outsider - just like how he feels.

Jungwoo → SM || six of swords rx, queen of wands rx: Another one who feels a little stuck… Things just aren't moving the way/in the direction he had hoped. He feels like he can't really express himself or his creative vision, and, due to that, he can't improve as an artist. On top of that, their line of communication just isn't all that great, it seems. The company has a hard time understanding him, and he has a hard time understanding the company and communicating his desires and ideas clearly.

SM → Jungwoo || king of pentacles, six of wands: Oh? This is actually really good. They see him as someone with lots of potential; someone who has the "IT" factor and will be able to build a solid career in the industry. I also think they are looking to invest a lot more on him; they want to put him more out there. At the same time, and going back to Jungwoo's feelings, this reads to me as SM having a plan already in place for him and that's what they're moving forward it. No changes will be made because they truly believe this is what is going to lead them to success. So, essentially, this would explain why he feels "stuck"; why he can't seem to express his wishes and seek real improvement - THEY are deciding everything for him.

Mark → SM || five of pentacles rx, the world: They have been through a rough patch, but he found a way out of there. He's not accepting less than what he deserves anymore. They have the resources to provide him with good material and work conditions, and he's gonna push for it from now on. I do think he's willing to forgive them for their past mistakes if they agree to treat him more fairly as an artist and human being (too, yes). Also, he thinks SM has had better days lol… It's like "you're old, get over it".

SM → Mark || eight of wands rx, seven of wands rx: Mark stood up for himself, I'm telling you… They're not being able to move forward with their plans for his career the same way they were before. Things are moving much slower and it seems like they can't push forward with their ideas as easily as before. This is either him asking for a well deserved break (or breaks, here and there), or him taking charge of things and not letting them push him around as they wish. He messed up their plans, basically.

Haechan → SM || judgement, ace of wands rx: Like Mark, he definitely recognizes that things are changing and they're being forced to look at the mess they have made. Like some others, too, he thinks the company has lost its touch and needs a complete restructure (projects wise, but also staff wise?). He's still hoping that things change for the better and that they're able to have a great future together, but it might take a while.

SM → Haechan || the hermit, queen of swords: They see that Haechan has matured a lot over the past few years. He's very wise, grounded, smart. If they say something, they know he'll understand the message right away. They could also be looking into getting him more involved with the background work, such as songwriting or producing. He's got great ideas and has a lot of knowledge, and they see a lot of potential in that. Additionally, they also see him as a clear communicator - not always kind, but always honest… which they still appreciate, I think.

hellooo today's reminder is remember how i predicted that the nct solos would be t7s unit in age order? i am a genius and correct about everything bc jaehyun is releasing an album later this year. and before that, let us all join hands and beg him not to think he's done too many r&b numbers and wants to change things up because i still want to inject forever only right into my bloodstream

also after mark I've got my fingers crossed for taeil it is insane they haven't (to my memory) given him non-ost solo songs

Hi, oh yay, jaehyun's solo I have two friends who are gonna love that and are just waiting for the day. Jaehyun has many directions he can take it and it could be exactly what we expect or he could surprise us. And yeah Mark shouldn't be too far behind. I would love a Johnny solo. He's one of the members who hasn't done anything alone or even just in duo or trio. I would love to see what he could give us. Or or Hendery & Johnny duet for my own personal selfish reasons. I hope once taeil is healed enough for service we'll get something from him before he leaves. The world needs it.
