Candy's Poem, from the movie Candy (2006)
youtube
Once upon a time, there was Candy and Dan Things were very hot that year All the wax was melting in the trees. He would climb balconies, climb everywhere, do anything for her, oh Danny boy Thousands of birds, the tiniest birds, adorned her hair Everything was gold One night the bed caught fire He was handsome and a very good criminal We lived on sunlight and chocolate bars [It was the afternoon of extravagant delight] Danny the daredevil. Candy went missing The days last rays of sunshine cruise like sharks I want to try it your way this time You came into my life really fast and I liked it We squelched in the mud of our joy I was wet-thighed with surrender Then there was a gap in things and the whole earth tilted This is the business This, is what we're after With you inside me comes the hatch of death And perhaps I'll simply never sleep again The monster in the pool We are a proper family now with cats and chickens and runner beans Everywhere I looked And sometimes I hate you Friday -- I didn't mean that, mother of the blueness Angel of the storm Remember me in my opaqueness You pointed at the sky, that one called Sirius or dog star, but on here on earth Fly away sun Ha ha fucking ha you are so funny Dan A vase of flowers by the bed My bare blue knees at dawn These ruffled sheets and you are gone and I am going too I broke your head on the back of the bed but the baby he died in the morning I gave him a name His name was Thomas Poor little god His heart pounds like a voodoo drum

"We have mixed marriages and gay and lesbian characters in abundance throughout the game," Slavicsek tells TheGamer. "It just makes sense to us that all possibilities exist in Tamriel. We treat it as a real and living world. You just might not notice because we don't shout it from the rooftops or put signs proclaiming it everywhere. And you know why? Because in Tamriel, this is just the way the world is. No character in the world blinks an eye or thinks there's anything unusual about meeting the baker and his husband, the serving woman and her wife, or to have Naryu and Jakarn flirt with you, regardless of your character's gender. And that's not even mentioning Alchemy, the three Living Gods of the Tribunal, or the Daedric Princes who can appear as any gender they so desire! It's part of the world and so it's no big deal."
(link) (cw transphobia- article is a response to dorks who are butthurt re: the new nonbinary companion.)
This! This is what made me write ESO fanfic, when I’d never written fic with original characters before.
Because as a nonbinary bisexual ~woman on T? I fucking noticed! I noticed ESO’s Tamriel is a world I could exist in without friction. Where no one cares about your gender presentation or who you’re attracted to—where it doesn’t even occur to anyone to care about it. Where there wouldn’t even need to be pride, or queerness at all, because there is no one thing that’s seen as normal or correct. I love my queerness of course, but ultimately, I want to live in a world where I don’t need it, because the way I am is simply one of infinite ways a person can be.
It also means there is no sexual shame. People aren’t weird about sex or the things they enjoy sexually. There’s nothing strange about polyamorous relationships and nothing kinky about men who like being dominated by women. Sex work is not stigmatized or dangerous. No one feels shame about being horny or wanting sex. Sex is a private thing but it’s also not particularly taboo to discuss. I want to live in a world like that, too.
They don’t say it in the article, but the major reason the world can be this way is that they’ve done a thorough and meticulous job of deleting structural misogyny from existence. And as the quote says, you don’t even notice a lot of the time, but once you see it, you can’t unsee it. It makes me feel like a world without patriarchy and gender oppression could exist, and we wouldn’t even miss it.
RPGs are all about making you feel like you fit into the world. I’m tumblr-old; I’ve been playing video games for longer than some of my mutuals have been alive, and ESO’s Tamriel is the first RPG world I have encountered where I could actually feel myself fitting in. This is why I’m really hopeful about TES VI: don’t care where or when the game takes place, or what the Hero Mythology is; if they keep doing this? I’m in.

Queer women are the main culprits of fetishising mlm relationships (both real and nonexistent ones), and I think we’re all scared to admit that.

how was the 13th doctor robbed ?
Well. This is gonna be a long one anon.
For starters, she had a shorter episode count for each of her series (two consisting of 10 episodes, her last only had 6!!! SIX!!! and even with the ending specials that's 3 more, but they did not deal with the third season much at all. That story barely had anything.) Each season since the start of NuWho has been 13 episodes plus Christmas specials, give or take extra specials depending. (10th Doctor had FOUR extra specials after the end of his last season. Plus he showed up in Day of the Doctor, so he's been extra spoiled). Just think of how much more could have been done with more episodes!
She was also robbed of the traditional Christmas specials, which was a staple of EVERY NuWho season before her, and GUESS WHO GOT ONE RIGHT AWAY when RTD came back? (13 got a couple New Years specials which are fine, but she will be the ONLY multi season NuWho Doctor to not have a Christmas special, and that's just wrong. The Christmas specials are iconic and holiday time classics and always focus on familial bonds the Doctor makes and 13 is missing that).
The 13th Doctor's tenure also had to endure COVID, which isn't on the BBC or the showrunners obv, but it still detracts from what she could have had that the past Doctors had and what the future Doctors will have.
The 10th and 11th Doctors particularly had oodles of extra content like shorts and mini features that was nowhere to be found for the 13th Doctor. (In fairness, 12 didn't get as many extra bonus things also, but 12 had full seasons and Christmas specials, including one of the best ones with River Song).
And one of the most egregious forms of theft was from Jodie Whittaker herself. She is an incredible actress and she was hardly given the space to fully go as hard as she could. If you've ever seen the Antigone performance she gives...it's stunning. Legendary. Raw. She is a brilliant actress so she was able to bring some of that into certain moments of the 13th doctor's tenure, but there are painfully few epic moments of 13 in the same way there are so many of the 10th, 11th, and 12th doctors.
Also she was robbed, again with the shorter episode count, of breathing room and development with her companions. Short season runs (10 or less episodes) are So So Lean, and they really hurt so much not just from Doctor Who but the Netflix ATLA, Percy Jackson, Marvel and Star Wars shows, etc. We could have had more development time with Yaz, especially with her feelings toward 13, have them properly shown a lot more, rather than having Mandip and Jodie carrying everything on their backs with little add ins and crumbs. Plus Graham and Ryan! And poor Dan got shafted as the new Flux companion. He got so much less time to really get fleshed out and form a bond with 13. The show even makes a point of that! He's closer to Yaz than anyone.
And 13 was also robbed of one of the most important things of all: passing on her wardrobe to the next doctor.
RTD can say what he likes but he was a coward and an asshole for not having David wear Jodie's costume. He can't in one breath claim to be treading lightly about crossdressing to be respectful (when it's Perfectly Fine to have the POC male villain rock the wardrobe not a half hour before, weird) and in the same breath have Rose Noble's deadname used multiple times in the first TenThree special.
Apologies about the ramble, anon, but more or less, those are many of the reasons why I feel 13 has been robbed in ways her predecessors and her successors were/are not. (I've said these things before and I have said them again, and I'll probably keep saying them.) I genuinely hope this helps you understand some of the lingering feelings of disappointment.

Patreon Gone Public: Voice Actor Dreamcast
This was a treat to put together, and I spent too many hours pouring over different voice actors and their roles to catch a golden nugget of what I really think embodies each character. I'm pleased to say that the voice clips are not only canon for their voices, but also in actual dialogue, what they say in those clips.
Swap some names or locations, and it's them. Yes, I am absolutely being normal about this! Why won't you let me chew on your arm? ...Just a little bit?
Pre death Leith:  Adam Lazzare-White as Jacob Taylor in Mass Effect
Pre death Leila: Maggie Baird as Samara in Mass Effect
Yor: Keith Ferguson as Lord Saladin in Destiny 2
Yana: Claudia Black as Morrigan in Dragon Age: Inquisition
M!Auryn: Richard Armitage as Trevor Belmont in Castlevania
F!Auryn: Yvonne Strahovski as Miranda Lawson in Mass Effect
Sene: Anthony Howell as Gaspard De Chalons in Dragon Age: Inquisition (but also voices Morgott in Elden Ring which is... fitting)
Selene:Corinne Kempa as Leliana in Dragon Age: Inquisition
Idren: Brandon Keener as Garrus Vakarian in Mass Effect
Ida: Cree Summer as Exo Female in Destiny 2 (also the voice of Kida in Atlantis which is JUST *chefs kiss* perfect but I couldn't find a line that fit Ida's personality. This is more showing of their...path within Ouro.)
For Leith/Custom's voices post death and as they are in the present, you'll find those on my Patreon.
Hope you enjoyed :>

so for oyhs, if ash can use they/them pronouns... why can't sky??? genuinely curious. is it something to do with their reputation or public image?
I mean yeah…. Sky is an actor they have different expectations on them than an eccentric director. They don’t have the luxury to be strange, also add to the fact that they have pressure of them from their mother who is super famous it is not the same thing. Directors have more freedom cause they’re behind the camera, their image isn’t what they’re selling while actors are
And reminder Ashley isn’t using they/them as an identity, that wouldn’t fly. They are still called by male pronouns sometimes by people who don’t care and even though they don’t like it they also can’t truly explain why they don’t. They already made a huge hit so they’ve earned the right to be weird, think of it a bit like Howard Hughes, strange man but was allowed to be so cause he was believed to be a brilliant man

i don’t know how to feel about the fact that i’ve started to see several people use they/them for taash.
like on one hand, i kind of get it. written by trick weekes, voiced by jin maley, both of whom are nonbinary. and taash is the only character whose pronouns haven’t officially appeared yet (to the best of my knowledge?) because harding, lucanis, emmrich, and neve have previous canon appearances, and bellara’s and davrin’s have appeared in promotional material, and maybe people are just trying to play it safe
on the other hand, the qunari have a long and unfortunate history of racial coding and i can’t help but feel like this is similar to the way women of color are seen as Less Feminine, combined with echoes of the weird remarks from da2 where people called aveline a man because she was a warrior
maybe i’m reaching a little. i guess we’ll see
