What the fuck did I just read. Since when were we a bunch of warring tribes?
There were wars between different countries. Like that is documented, but to either state or imply that within our own there was wars is just false.
Like is this trying to say that wars that in the Tanach in the Naviim section is really about Shevat against Shevat or that the other countries that Eretz Yisrael fought were actually other Shevats.
Like just wtf did I read. It makes no fucking sense.
It is not even grounded in anything remotely historical.
I came across this post and it's really rubbing me the wrong way but I'm having trouble fully articulating it. There's a lot to unpack, but in particular the second post's wording of ancient Judea "appropriating" ancient Israel just reeks of thinly veiled "Jews steal other peoples' culture" to me.
I am not taking any notes from the Stalinist tankie Rabbi that tried to strip Jews of Judaism to solve antisemitism like making Sukkot a labor day and moving Shabbat to Sunday.
^ the tankies of Wikipedia saw fit to leave this is btw āthe suffering of Russian Jewry is goneā, laughs in descendant of Holocaust survivor to gulag prisoner pipeline.
and Ritabees the person that Claimed Israelis were just Judaist rapture cultists that wanted to kill all arabs to bring about the messiah and cites noted Self hating Jew Scholmo Sand who wrote historical revisionism tomes to spite his holocaust survivor parents
yāall sit on a throne of academic lies that command Jews to kiss the boot pressed on their neck so bad because you actually like the taste

Life is strange right now. Most of us arenāt actually sick, but we must self-isolate and social distance ourselves. Some people are really upset by this. And I will admit to being annoyed at times. And yet, I canāt help but to think of Jonah.
Jonah knew that if he proclaimed a disaster and everyone repented they would be spared (which is good) but then he ran the risk of looking like a liar, a false prophet. And right now, some people think that if we self-isolate and no one else gets sick, that means it was never that dangerous. But Jonah was flattening the curve too! The city of Nineveh was not too far gone yet. They could take the proper precautions and gain Godās mercy. Right now, we too can take the proper precautions and gain Godās mercy. I donāt mean we should fast, wear sackcloth, and sit in ashes. I mean we need to listen to the science and medical communities as they offer their warnings, and follow their instructions.
I donāt believe that God sends us instructions the way God did in the time of Jonah. I believe that we have to use the reasoning abilities that God gave us, and listen to those people whom God has inspired to be doctors (and nurses, and other healers) and scientists.
So, itās time to be like the citizens of Nineveh. We might spend a lot of time at home, and isolated right now. And it may seem like it is all for nothing. But I promise you, it is not. Every time we stay home, or limit our interaction, every time we social distance ourselves, or sanitize things, it is helping to save lives. Every time we limit the spread of COVID-19 we help to āflatten the curveā of infections, and that helps to keep our hospitals under control.
The bible doesnāt say if the people of Nineveh thought Jonah was a false prophet when the wrath of God did not come. Perhaps they knew that their actions mattered, just like ours do now. Do you think they didnāt also have plans? Celebrations cancelled? Of course they did. But it didnāt matter. It was life or death, just like it is now.

8th grade at orthodox Jewish day school
Day 1 of Navi class (Naviim is the book of prophets, we called the class Navi)
Rabbi: *walks in*
Class: *sits there, expecting to be instructed to open up our copies of Naviim*
Rabbi: so you know how people donāt know if Elvis is really dead? How they canāt prove he is or isnāt? Thatās how I view G-Dās existence.
[and thatās when the class went from good to great]

Quote
For behold! I am creating a new heaven and a new earth; The former things shall not be remembered, they shall never come to mind. Be glad, then, and rejoice forever In what I am creating. For I shall create Jerusalem as a joy, And her people as a delight; And I will rejoice in Jerusalem And delight in her people. Never again shall be heard there The sounds of weeping and wailing. No more shall there be an infant or graybeard Who does not live out his days. He who dies at a hundred years Shall be reckoned a youth, And he who fails to reach a hundred Shall be reckoned accursed. They shall build houses and dwell in them. They shall plant vineyards and enjoy their fruit. They shall not build for others to dwell in, or plant for others to enjoy. For the days of My people shall be As long as the days of a tree, My chosen ones shall outlive The work of their hands. They shall not toil to no purpose; They shall not bear children for terror, But they shall be a people blessed by the Lord, And their offspring shall remain with them. Before they pray, I will answer; While they are still speaking, I will respond.
Isaiah 65:17-24
(This was one of the readings for a comrade's ordination, which I attended tonight. And a damn fine indication that the new earth doesn't run off capitalism.)
