2025 Tile Trends with Expert Insight from Tile of Spain

At the forefront of upcoming trends and innovation, this year’s Cersaie show in Bologna showcased an incredible collection of exciting new ceramic tile designs for 2025 from the Spanish tile industry. 

From sensory, calm textures to dynamic dimensions, María D Arráez, Director of Tile of Spain UK, and Clara Vicedo, Marketing and Communications executive at ASCER, round up their top five trends from this year’s show that will be leading the world of tile design in 2025:

“Tile dimensions are becoming more tactile and more adventurous. Three-dimensional tiles are expanding to include more shapes and designs, creating interiors that are all about unique character. From multi-coloured fluting to different shaped tile reliefs, we have seen a significant shift in the dynamism of the dimensions in the latest tile collections, extending far beyond a simple 3D structure, but instead showcasing a wide range of dimensions and styles that will bring structure and striking statements to residential and commercial spaces.”

“Texture in tiles has developed further than a simple structure in the surface. Thanks to continued developments in manufacturing technologies, tile designs are increasingly presenting more depth in pattern and structure, exuding a calming, sensory effect through a very subtle sense of movement. From beautiful veining in restorative tones to sanded stone, rough wood and brushed concrete effects, tiles are injecting a soothing aesthetic through a stunning palette of neutral yet textured designs.”

“Tiles lend themselves perfectly to creating unique and striking visual statements. From mixing and matching different colours of the same tile, to eye-catching geometric designs, homeowners and designers have started to exude even more abstract expression through their surface choices. In some cases, tiled surfaces will become almost kaleidoscopic in appearance, delivering a new elevated level of creativity when it comes to interior design.”

“A trend for more ‘out of this world’ finishes and colourways has started to make itself known through tile design. Otherworldly iridescent effects and decorative overlays that go beyond simple colour are set to show a significant increase in popularity in the coming year. From metallic, layered hues to shaded variations, this trend can be beautifully represented through wall tiles, offering designers the opportunity to inject a touch of ethereal beauty into schemes.”

“Blending the past with the present, historic influences are increasingly being showcased through tile design. Whether through retro-inspired palettes or pattern clashes and combinations, a nod to nostalgia can be seen through the latest modern tile collections. Combined with shapes, finishes and accents that bring a nostalgic interior scheme together, tiles are set to take centrestage within this past-meets-present trend era.”

Now if you move to Spain and wish to drive you will have to take both the theory and the practical aspects of the Spanish driving test from scratch in order to secure your Spanish driving license.

International Driving Permit

If you’re living in Spain and you already have a Spanish driving license. Then you won’t need an international driving permit Spain to drive in the country. Or in any other country in the EU. However, you will need one if you plan to take a trip and drive in a country outside of the EU. The good news, if you’re wondering how to get an international driving permit, is that it is now surprisingly simple. As of August 2021, it is possible to apply for the permiso internacional de conducir (the Spanish name for the International Driving License Spain) online. Without any need for a face-to-face appointment.

Where Do I Need an International Driving Permit?

Your Spanish driving license can be usable across the European Union and European Economic Area. It is usable in the following countries, which accept Spanish driving licenses without the need for an international driving permit: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Morocco, Nicaragua, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Paraguay, Uruguay, Venezuela, Brazil, El Salvador, the Philippines, Guatemala, Serbia, Turkey, Tunisia, the Ukraine and North Macedonia. If you intend to visit a cuontry which isn’t on this list then you will be need to get an international driving permit to drive there.

With doubt, it is worth getting in touch with the embassy or tourist information office of the country you intend to visit, so that you can ensure you have exactly what you need in order to travel.  If you do need an international driving license, you should allow enough time to secure this before your trip.

Driving in Spain With UK License and Securing an International Driving Permit

There is currently no options for non-EU/EEA driving license holders to apply for an international driving permit whilst they are in Spain. Because they do not have Spanish drivers licenses, the DGT cannot issue international permits. If you are a UK driving license holder then driving in Spain with UK license is perfectly legal, but at this point you will have to apply for your International Driving Permit in the UK. This may change in the future, as post-Brexit talks around driving regulations between the UK and Spain evolve.

It is worth emphasizing that you do not need an international driving permit to drive in Spain, provide you have a photocard driving license that has been issue in the UK, or anywhere else in the EU. The focus of this piece is if you reside in Spain, and hope to travel to a non-EU country so an international driving permit will be require to drive your vehicle.

When it’s time to collect your driving license. You need to take a passport size photo on a plain background with you. Which will be adde to your license to ensure that it’s valid. You will also need to take a valid form of ID. So that you can be identified and your license can be issued to you.

If you’d rather not apply for your international driving permit online. You can also do so by visiting your local DGT office. This is a more time-consuming process. However, as you will need to request and secure an appointment. In order to process this application in a face-to-face setting.

Once you have secured your international driving permit Spain, it will be valid for a period of one year. This cannot be extended, so if you still need an international driving permit once that year is up. You will need to apply for a new permit. The good news is, this process is relatively easy. So you shouldn’t be put off driving when you take your next international trip!

The King, ruler over all kingdom decisions - the highest royalty one can be. He has a daughter, named Jay, and hides a large secret. What is it? However, it's said he has a very strong connection to every magic court, and seems to be able to master the magic almost immediately. No one knows why.

He's partially cyborg due to an accident when younger, and simple birth defects- but he didn't want it to drag him down. He had the issue limbs amputated and replaced, and it's simply become part of his identity. He appears to grow older a lot slower than others, and an explanation is varied from what it truly is. Not even he knows- or, he simply doesn't speak of it.

Pixeti Necrobra

He's gonna lose his ice cream. And he's gonna cry, despite his bad boy™ reputation. He is the husband to Semik Tergem, and works for the Ophiuchus court.

Shiwra Warfang

A peculiar girl, no one knows where her family surname originated from, as it is not a common name- nor even heard of. She's a known wrestler- often said to be way too aggressive. Her sister, a blue-caste, says she's "as if bigotry was nebulified into a single nebulae", vastly hypocritical in her actions. But, she has good intentions in her heart.

Theogal Aquittarus (creator; @slimescrutiny )

A large boy, he's quite known for being a security expert in all fields. He's been moved up to exploring space, and so, has had his tail docked. Everyone knows of his annoyance towards Daniol Pyeo, green-caste, and his metalloid-earth abilities. It's said he has a crush on his teammate, but which one?

Kai Natucer

The personal bodyguard of Jay Pyicorn- much more active after the Incident. He is a snarky charmer, able to charm the pants off of almost any nebuli he comes around. His tail has been amputated to a point, due to Jay's pet coral snake, appropriately named Koral, and it's said his odd blood mutation is due to blood-drinker or cave-dweller relations. Unfortunately, he never has confirmed any of this, and in fact avoids it.

The Red-Caste of Nebulae refers to the red-skinned Nebulae, the ones who are often more aggressive and more buffier than other castes. There's the accepting among them over pink-castes or neon-castes, in which they're okay to be called a red-caste due to pink or neon red simply being a different pigment of red. They derive from Cave-Dwellers, and it's common when a nebuli gets turned to a blood-drinker, that their skin will turn red and maybe even splotchy or rough. The difference in them and Cave-Dwellers is their resistance to the cold, instead of the very high temperatures of where the Cave-Dwellers live.

In the past two weeks I have watched The Terror, Hornblower, Master and Commander, and started rereading Temeraire. In honor of this hole that I have fallen into, I’ve made a drinking game:

Drink every time:

- There is a long shot of a ship that slowly zooms out

- Something terribly nautical and fascinating happens (drink twice if you have no idea what part of the ship that word refers to)
