Genshin 5.3 Impressions
Just finished the Genshin 5.3 Archon Quest, here are my thoughts:
I don't remember half the names used in the final battle and I don't quite remember why Ronova is there, why a Dragon of Erosion is the final embodiment of the Natlan Abyss enemies, why he is named Gosoythoth....I vaguely remember Vichama and Mallko, Nepecha, and Bona and Coco....
Wait if Coco is there is that functionally Och-kan there in the Night Kingdom/afterlife helping us out?
Did they refer to Och-kan as the embodiment of Death?
Who is Olaya? What a foreboding set of dialogue. For a while i thought she was that crazy mom from Xilonen's SQ and that she'd died off-screen or something...
I think I need to watch/look up an explanation of the Natlan final arc. I did try to play as many of the quests in Natlan as I could, but I feel there was too much I didn't understand....
I like the Fontaine Archon Quest, storywise, a lot more.
I like the Natlanese a lot more than the Fontainians.
I do feel like there is a bond between Mavuika and her people, especially her Six Heroes, more than any other Archon. Of course we know why the other Archons don't get that bond, and Zhongli and the Adepti have something similar.
Who is Thrain? Did I miss a quest discussing the Captain's former identity?
I loved that the people we met in Natlan did all play a part and the chiefs and heroes could be interacted with before the big final battle.
Is the Traveler's words for their Ancient Name a reference to the Book of Genesis? Who is the "someone" who set themselves alight? And that wasn't just for Teyvat but for the universe?
Wait are all the Pyro Traveler's Constellations only valid for fighting against Gosoythoth?
Is Mavuika's sister at all related to Kaveh? I think she has no descendants but who is that family with her book she refers to?
I have so many questions. Not only in a good "Oh wow my imagination is on fire" kinda way but in a "I constantly feel like I'm missing the context" way.
Mavuika still has her Gnosis....it would make sense that the Fire Archon is the one who the Ice Archon finds hardest to snatch the Gnosis from.
Who is Ajaw really?
I don't think this will be explored but if Natlan is really "no longer at war", uh, won't their warrior culture run into issues adapting? And, I mean, there's still fighting to be done....
Are Mondstadters still going to be scared of the Mare Jivari? I was kinda wondering if we'd run into Stanley's spirit in the Night Kingdom....
#genshin impact#genshin spoilers#genshin 5.3#I'm sure some of my questions are because I didn't explore Natlan 100percent but i feel as if I made a good effort....#literally just finished the quest so if some of my questions are answered later on#that's why i don't know about it#natlan final battle#spoilers

The Gnosis Can Wait
Requested By: No one. Original work.
CW: 5.0 spoilers below this line!!! 5.0 spoilers below this line! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!
Summary: After his battle with Mavuika, Capitano was left injured. He retreats wanting to replan his strategy when he runs into you, the Creator, who had just descended to Teyvat.
Note: So how are you all liking Natlan? As of right now I think it’s okay only because I want to return to Fontaine 😞
Capitano wasn’t used to the taste of defeat.
As number one in the Fatui harbingers and the strongest amongst them no doubt, he is used to winning every match he partakes in. Or for his opponents to concede before the battle even begins.
Yet he doesn’t take it to heart, he knows the outcomes of every battle can differ in many different ways and he isn’t arrogant about his strength.
Mavuika was a God after all. Even though his power rivals hers, he knew he would have to best her with a foolproof strategy and it seemed barging in wasn’t the right one. She was a worthy opponent.
Capitano returns to his camp, the pain in his chest still burning from the small wound Mavuika left on him. He can wait, once his wound heals then he will strike her again, only this time he won’t miss. At least he has an ally in his pocket keeping him up to date on all the politics within Natlan.
“My lord,” Capitano’s right hand, Rezanov begins while bowing. “We found footprints nearby. We believe someone might stumble into camp soon…”
Capitano lets out a sigh underneath his mask, “how many people?”
“We believe only one, there’s only one track of footprints.”
Only one person? Nothing really to worry about. Unless this person is returning to tell the Archon his location.
“Find them and bring them here.” He orders and Rezanov nods and quickly takes off.
———
Okay… don’t freak out. Don’t freak out…
You just woke up in Genshin Impact.
You remember waiting impatiently by your PC for the newest update to the game, but you must’ve fallen asleep while waiting. Now you were dreaming about the it? Jeez, even in your own dreams you thought about the game. You really needed to touch grass. (lol jk jk luv you all)
You were dreaming about Natlan… a nation that you haven’t even played yet. You couldn’t have had a dream about your favorite nation? Or meeting all your favorite characters?
But everything felt so real. Even after watching the trailer and the leaks you’ve seen online, there’s no way you could know such detail about the nation. Maybe it was just your mind filling in the gaps…
“Stop right there!”
You turn around and your blood runs immediately cold. It was two fatui skirmishers and one fatui agent. You don’t even know the amount of times you’ve killed these enemies for their drops or just for the fun of it.
So this is how you die… at least this is better than falling into the claws of Childe, who you’d beat up anytime you built a new character.
“Our lord the Captain will deal with you, come with us with no fight.”
Scratch that. This was much, much worse…
“Wait… isn’t that…?” One of them whispered.
They put down their weapons, looks of remorse on their faces.
“Your Grace… please for give our imprudence we had no idea it was you…” Rezanov. “Please come with us, the Captain would be delighted to see you.”
Right… you’ve read fanfics like this before. Believing you’re their Creator… you wonder if your blood was gold. Perhaps you could check later. For now, you were going to follow them, it’s not like Capitano has appeared in the game you can get a first time look at him.
You follow the trio deeper into the forest, a small fireplace in the distance, you could only assume the Captain would be there.
“My lord, we found who was trailing around camp. Their Grace has decided to bless us with their presence on Teyvat once more.”
Capitano turns around and say nothing for what felt like forever. Even with the helmet, you knew he was staring intently at you.
“Your Grace.” He finally says, his voice much softer than you ever expected. “I am honored to be in your presence.”
He approached, towering over you.
“You three. Fetch Their Grace some food—“ he looks down at you once more. “And a change of clothes.”
You feel embarrassment creep up your neck. What’s wrong with your pajamas? Could he tell they weren’t from this word?
He holds out his hand, and you take it being able to feel the warmth underneath the glove. This dream was much realer than you thought…
Capitano leads you to his large tent holding the flaps open so you could enter. “We weren’t expecting your arrival so I apologize for the lack of preparations…”
You shake your head, “everything is fine.” Not like you’d be here forever…
“You can have my tent You Grace, I will camp outside.” He adds.
You furrow your eyebrows, “this tent is big enough for two people, can’t we just share it?”
Capitano doesn’t say nothing for a moment, you fear you’ve might’ve offended him with your offer but it was the complete opposite. Capitano felt as if he was on top of the world, to share a camp with the Creator? To be able to protect you? To see your sleeping face…
He feels his cheeks grow crimson and he is eternally grateful for his helmet. “Of course, if that’s what you wish Your Grace…”
The flaps to the tent open and Rezanov enters the tent. “My lord, we've received word that the Pyro Archon has lost much of her power.”
“Although your injury complicates things, this is most certainly the opportune time to seize the Gnosis...”
Capitano was slightly irritated with his subordinate’s unwarranted entry but he wouldn’t do anything yet, not while you were right in front of him.
“The Gnosis can wait, we have more important matters…” he replies, his focus never leaving you.

Note: Capitano was the highlight of Natlan for me. Sorry but i’m a Fatui Harbinger glazer 😞 why’d they make them so fine? It’s not fair… Now here’s to hoping my man is playable, saving all my primos for him so he better not disappoint.
Edit: I know Mavuika isn’t a God but I’m thinking Capitano wouldn’t know that since she’s the only one of the Seven that isn’t a one which is where I went with this fic

Can I request a fic for Kinich x fem reader please? during the archons quest IV (spoiler‼️ for people who didnt do the archons quest) reader almost died in one of the bases but traveler and Paimon (doesn't matter who tbh I love the twins) was able to save them just in time and Kinich hugged her not letting her go until he knew she was real and safe in his arms
Not a huge fan of angst but I'm okay with angst with comfort (happy ending)
From the Edge of Darkness

The Abyss Order had been relentless in its attack on Natlan, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. With the nation in ruins, every base became a battlefield, and the resistance fighters were pushed to their breaking point. The Traveler and Paimon, desperate to help in whatever way they could, had been moving from one war-torn base to another, always hoping to arrive in time to save someone—anyone—from the onslaught.
This upcoming base felt different, though. As they neared the next base, an eerie silence filled the air. No sounds of clashing weapons, no cries for help. Just silence.
Paimon’s voice quivered as she spoke, “Traveler… something feels wrong about this place.” The suffocating tension in the air made it hard to breathe.
When they finally reached the base, the scene that greeted them was nothing short of horrifying. Destruction had torn through the camp like a hurricane. Blood stained the ground, mingling with the ashes of burned tents and scattered debris. Bodies lay strewn across the battlefield, broken and still. Each life extinguished in a brutal fight to protect their homeland.
The Traveler moved quickly, scanning the area, their heart sinking with each step. Please, let there be someone left alive. They silently begged the universe, their steps quickening with each heartbeat.
And then they saw you.
Amidst the carnage, there you were—barely alive. Your body was crumpled against the remains of a wall, blood trickling from a wound on your side. Your skin was pale, your breath shallow. You were hanging on, but only just.
“There!” the Traveler gasped, rushing toward you. They dropped to their knees by your side, frantically checking your pulse, their hand trembling as they felt the faint, uneven beat beneath your skin. “She’s alive, but not for long!”
Paimon’s eyes widened in horror. “We need to get her out of here! Now!”
The Traveler didn’t hesitate. With great care, they lifted your fragile, unconscious body into their arms. They could feel how weak you were, how close you were to slipping away. Every second counted. “We’re taking her to the stadium!” the Traveler barked. “That’s where the medics are.”
Paimon nodded furiously, her tiny body flying ahead, guiding the way. “Hurry! We don’t have much time!”
The journey back to the stadium felt excruciatingly long, each second a battle against time. But the thought of losing you—of arriving too late—drove them forward.
The stadium came into view, its towering walls offering a brief sense of relief. Inside, it was the last haven for those who had survived the Abyss Order’s attacks. It was bustling with medics, warriors, and refugees, each one desperate to protect what little was left of their world.
The Traveler barely made it through the gates before shouting for help. “Medic! We need a medic!”
The closest group of medics rushed over, their eyes widening when they saw your condition. Without wasting a moment, they took you from the Traveler’s arms and laid you on a stretcher.
The Traveler stood back, their chest heaving with exertion, watching helplessly as the medics tried to save you. Paimon hovered close by, her hands clenched tightly in front of her. “Traveler… do you think she’s going to make it?”
The Traveler swallowed hard, unable to answer. “I don’t know, Paimon… I don’t know.”
---
Not long after, the stadium doors burst open, and Kinich, the man you loved, stormed in. His usually calm and stoic demeanor had crumbled, replaced by pure, unfiltered panic. His eyes scanned the crowd, searching desperately for you, the woman who meant more to him than anything in the world.
When he finally spotted the Traveler, his heart lurched. He saw the exhaustion in their eyes, the grim set of their jaw. He knew something was wrong. “Where is she?” he demanded, his voice shaking.
The Traveler’s expression softened with sorrow as they pointed toward the medic tent. “She’s there. It’s… not good, Kinich. I’m sorry.”
Kinich’s breath caught in his throat as he turned toward the tent. His heart pounded in his chest, each beat filled with dread as he rushed toward you. When he reached your side, his worst fears were confirmed. You were pale and still, your chest barely rising with each shallow breath. Bandages covered the wound on your side, but you looked so fragile, so close to death.
“No…” The word came out as a broken whisper. He fell to his knees beside you, his hands trembling as they reached for yours. He grasped your hand in his, holding it tightly, as though if he just held on hard enough, he could pull you back from the brink.
Tears filled his eyes, blurring his vision as he bowed his head over your hand. “Please,” he whispered, his voice cracking with emotion. “Please don’t leave me. I can’t—I can’t lose you.”
His body shook with the force of his grief, the tears falling freely now as he pressed your hand to his lips, praying for some miracle, some sign that you would wake up and tell him everything would be okay.
Hours passed, but Kinich never left your side. He couldn’t. The world outside the stadium continued to burn, but nothing mattered to him except you. He sat by your side, holding your hand, watching for any sign that you would wake. Every breath you took felt like a lifeline, fragile but present.
The medics came and went, their magic stabilizing your condition, but Kinich’s heart remained heavy with fear. He whispered to you the whole time, his words soft and broken. “I love you… please come back to me…”
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, you stirred.
Your eyes fluttered open, and the first thing you saw was Kinich’s tear-streaked face hovering above you, his hand tightly gripping yours. You blinked slowly, your body heavy with pain and exhaustion, but you were alive. You were still here.
“Kinich…” Your voice was a soft, rasping whisper, but it was enough to break through the haze of Kinich’s grief.
His eyes widened, a sob of relief escaping him as he surged forward, pulling you into his arms. His grip was tight, almost desperate, as though he feared that if he let go, you would disappear again. His body trembled with emotion as he held you, his face buried in your hair.
“You’re awake,” he breathed, his voice shaking with disbelief. “You’re really awake…”
You nodded weakly, your arms coming up to wrap around him, though the movement was slow and painful. “I’m okay,” you murmured, your voice soft but reassuring. “I’m going to be okay.”
He pulled back just enough to look into your eyes, his gaze filled with love and relief. “Don’t ever scare me like that again,” he whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
You smiled, though it was weak and tired. “I’ll try not to.”
For a long moment, neither of you spoke. Kinich simply held you, his heart finally beginning to calm as he felt the steady rise and fall of your chest against his. You were safe. You were alive.
And as long as you had each other, nothing else mattered.
“I love you,” he whispered again, his voice softer this time, but no less sincere.
“I love you too,” you replied, your words filled with warmth and gratitude.
The world outside was still in chaos, but in this moment, as you lay in Kinich’s arms, you knew that everything would be okay. You had survived, and you had each other. And that was enough.

Kinich x Reader
Where he realizes that you are more valuable to him than the Mora
(0.6k words. I hadn't dared to write about Kinich, but after reading his story and playing with him, I felt like it! Remember that I appreciate every comment, like or repost, they make my day! Also, I accept requests! Enjoy <3)
The air in the mountains of Natlan was harsh and wild, like Kinich. The silence between the two of you, after weeks of roaming those inhospitable places, had become almost comfortable. You both knew the other was there without the need for words, but that day something was different. The tension was felt in every step, in the way his hands tightened the straps of his equipment.
"Why do you always accept the most dangerous missions?" You dared to ask as you followed his determined walk. Kinich, with his gaze fixed on the horizon, did not answer you right away. You usually received direct, raw answers, but this time it seemed that he was meditating on the words.
"Because it is what will bring me more Moras." His answer finally came, as simple as you had imagined.
You stopped, feeling a lump in your chest. Of course, he always talked about Moras, about the tangible rewards he longed for. It was his way of seeing the world, of understanding value. But you knew there was more behind those words. The Kinich you knew, though sometimes cold and calculating, had shown himself to have a much deeper spirit, one that perhaps he himself did not fully understand.
“Is that all that matters? The Mora?” You tried to keep your voice calm, but you couldn’t stop a hint of frustration from creeping in.
He stopped as well, his green eyes meeting yours. A spark of something indecipherable crossed his gaze before his expression returned to that familiar hardness. “What else should matter? We are not born heroes, and no one gives anything in return for nothing.”
You moved closer to him, each step driven by a mix of need and curiosity. He had been by your side in battles, had saved you more times than you could count, but you had never been able to fully decipher what drove him beyond that desire for material rewards. You were so close that you could see the tension in his jaw, the slight flicker in his eyes as he lowered them, perhaps avoiding your scrutiny.
“And me?” you asked quietly, your heart pounding. You weren’t just an adventure partner to him, and you both knew it. But sometimes, Kinich kept you at a distance, as if the price of letting someone get close was too high, even for him.
Kinich raised his head, surprised. For a few seconds, his usual composure seemed to waver, but he quickly regained it. He took a step toward you, his presence as strong and overwhelming as ever, and held your gaze intently. “You’re not a transaction,” he murmured. “You’re…” He swallowed, as if the words were a heavy weight to bear. “You’re important.”
The confession hit you hard, harder than you’d expected. In his own world of Moras, bounties, and contracts, you had found a special place. You weren't just another job, you weren't a goal to be fulfilled. You had gone from being a simple spectator in his life to becoming someone who could break through his defenses, even if it was just for a moment.
"Does that mean you're staying by my side for more than Moras?" You gave him a half-smile, one that Kinich only reserved for you in special moments.
He didn't respond immediately, but instead of words, he let his actions speak for him. With a calculated and agile movement, like the hunter he was, he enveloped you in an unexpected, but firm hug. It wasn't soft or delicate, but it was real. Like everything Kinich did.
"I'm staying because you're someone worth fighting for," he whispered, his voice rough but sincere.
You felt the warmth of his body next to yours, the weight of everything unsaid between the two of you. In the silence of the mountains, you knew that the future of both of you was far from easy, full of challenges and dangers. But at that moment, it didn't matter.
You were with Kinich, and for him, that was more valuable than any reward.
Here is my masterlist, in case you are interested in any more of my work or want to send me a request <3

Read my Yandere! Capitano fics first ૮ ྀི◞ ⸝⸝ ◟ ྀིა
Aahh hello, Capitano nation……how are all of you?? At first, I had no plans to write an angst fic about his “death” in 5.3, but I kept getting ideas for Damsel! Darling’s reaction </3
With that in mind, I figured I’d write just one story where his death is final. This is only an alternate timeline in the Herbarium series, and I hope you all cry enjoy this tragic ending to CapiDamsel’s dark fairytale .°(ಗдಗ。)°.
Tw:: YANDERE, Stockholm Syndrome, blood, offscreen death, implied self-harm, mention of abuse from darling’s backstory
Note:: Fem reader who is smaller and weaker than Capitano, takes place after 5.3 story
♡ 4.8k words under the cut ♡
On the day of your husband’s death, you were preserving flowers.
Just the common flora that grew around your home. It was a frigid day in Snezhnaya, and your morning stroll had been bountiful. As you pressed each flower between the pages of your notebook, you thought of the Captain miles away in Natlan.
His last letter was written before his battle with the Pyro Archon. The words of his past self had brought tears to your eyes, though you made no mention of that in your response.
How is he? What has happened in the days since he sent his letter? Has he read yours?
You added the last flower and closed your notebook.
All of the flowers were for him, to be enclosed in your next letter—assuming that his mission had to be extended. Your gift would make for a nice reminder of Snezhnaya.
Of you.
The flowers were still fresh on the night of the messenger’s arrival.
✿ ⚘
You don’t believe it.
This must be a joke. Another betrayal, even.
As usual, your guard speaks to him first. But when they come inside, the messenger’s hands are empty of letters and parcels. You are asked to take a seat on the sofa.
The messenger repeats what he told Cyane.
“The Captain has departed from this world.”
No.
You stare at him, eyes wide.
Despite his mask, his sorrow is evident. He doesn’t stop there, rambling about battles and souls and a god who presides over death.
Capitano…someone like him wouldn’t go down without a fight.
There is the sound of glass shattering—are the servants listening in? Cyane stands next to the messenger, a grim expression on their face.
He won’t stop talking.
Why is he saying that your husband sacrificed himself? That death is the end he had been trying to reach all along?
No, no, no. He wouldn’t do such a thing. Not when he has you. Not when he knows that you’re here, waiting for him to come home.
Your vision blurs.
The room closes in on you.
The messenger’s mouth is still moving, but you can no longer tell what he is saying. There is a different noise—your own voice?
But what makes you think you are more important?
“My lady!” Cyane rushes to your side but you slap their hand away.
Dizzily, you stand up. You rush past them, out of the living room, through the front door.
You have to leave.
How long has it been since your husband’s sacrifice?
Which direction is Natlan?
The sky is dark.
There are no flowers in sight.
But there are traces of the messenger’s footprints, leading the way out of the woods.
In your haste, you trip and fall into the snow.
Cold. It’s so cold.
Hands wrap around your upper arms. That is when you panic and struggle in the grasp of your unknown assailant, fear overriding all of your thoughts.
“Don’t touch me!”
“My lady?” It’s one of the Fatuus who guards the estate. Private Herkyna tries to help you up but you flinch nonetheless.
Cyane runs outside. “Unhand her! Lady ______ is not to be—have you forgotten the orders of the late Captain?!”
The late…why are they already calling him that?!
Private Herkyna lets go of you. Now she is bowing and apologizing profusely. You don’t see the messenger anywhere—is he still in your home?
Cyane walks over to you and crouches to your level.
“Lady ______, please.” The pity in their gaze is unbearable. “Come back inside.”
“N-No.” Your voice comes out in strained whispers. “You’re lying. Let me go. Let…”
Cyane holds out their hand but you turn away. The snow is numbingly cold yet you grip it with both hands, if only to ground yourself to something physical.
When you look up, the sky is empty of stars.
“Let me see my husband!”
This can’t be true.
Yes, that’s it. This must be a dream, just another nightmare crafted by your fears and memories. Soon enough, you’ll open your eyes and see the stars in your husband’s gaze. And when that happens, he will comfort you, pull you into the warmth of his embrace, tell you it was all a dream that will never come true.
✿ ⚘
Ideally, you’d be in Natlan by now.
But there is only so much authority you hold as the wife of the First Harbinger, so you are still awaiting approval. From who, you don’t know.
Until then, you refuse to believe in the rumors.
You have to see Capitano with your own eyes. Only then can you believe that he is truly gone.
In the meantime, you are incapable of waiting.
Time passes slowly in the manor. It has always felt too big, too quiet in Capitano’s absence. But back then, you could sustain yourself with the promise of his return.
Come to think of it, did he say anything about coming home?
He always made that promise, before his missions and in his letters, but on the day he left for Natlan…his last words to you were a prayer for your everlasting happiness.
It’s not just that. The servants have gone into mourning. They don’t know how to act around you, with their piteous gazes and fruitless attempts at comfort.
You don’t talk to any of them. You keep to yourself, drowning out their words, drifting from one room to another in a disoriented haze.
A family portrait hangs in the living room, depicting you and Capitano. He’d kept his mask on, of course, to conceal the abyssal rot consuming his body. As for you, your lacy gown made you look like the princesses in your storybooks.
His face is still vivid in your memories, along with his loving expressions. But when you stare at your husband’s painted imitation, all you can see is the black void of his mask.
✿ ⚘
Three days later, Cyane brings you to Capitano’s office.
“Cyane,” you whisper, “why are we here?”
They speak carefully. “When I was selected for this job, the Captain gave me access to special documents. I was told to only open them if we received news of his…absence.”
Absence. That is the word they use around you these days.
Well, they aren’t wrong. From what you heard, your husband is still in Natlan.
Cyane unlocks the door, stepping aside so you can enter.
The office is familiar. In the past, you avoided that room and only went there if Capitano called for you. But later on, you became a frequent visitor of your own volition.
The desk is empty. So is the chair behind it. On the days he worked from home, Capitano would be here, signing documents and speaking to subordinates. Whenever you visited, he’d adjust his sitting position so you could make yourself comfortable on his lap.
Cyane walks over to his desk and takes out a set of keys. They unlock the leftmost drawer.
Inside is a leather folder engraved with Capitano’s insignia and two names—yours and Sergeant C. Naiad. That, too, has to be unlocked.
It is filled with several documents written in familiar handwriting. A few words catch your eye, and that is all it takes for you to step back.
“What…what is this?”
“I opened it as soon as we received the news,” Cyane explains. “The Captain left this behind to ensure your welfare in the event that he died in battle.”
Died. But he technically isn’t…
“Cyane.” Your voice comes out in a deathly whisper. “Did you know?”
Just how long has he been planning this?
They shake their head. “I knew nothing. When the Captain gave me the key to this drawer, he phrased it as a contingency plan, not…an inevitability.”
Cyane explains the documents to you. There is a signed will. A pension that ensures all of your needs will be met for the remainder of your life. And many other considerations.
One document provides options for your living situation. If you want, you can stay in Capitano’s estate; you have sole ownership. Otherwise, you can return to Mondstadt or relocate to another nation entirely. Wherever you go, the Fatui will permit it and your servants will follow you.
It’s funny, really. Had your captor died a few years ago, you would’ve felt relief. Joy. Freedom. But at this moment, your chest feels hollow.
Has Mondstadt changed?
It should be safe, seeing how Capitano brought justice upon your tormentors. Mondstadt Library will still be there, though you doubt that your coworkers missed you. As for the meadow…it was never yours to begin with.
You have nothing to return to, really.
How can you return to your days of barely living? What is waiting for you in the nation you once called home?
The last document is a sealed envelope.
Cyane gives it to you. “I didn’t read this. It’s for your eyes only.”
Wordlessly, you accept it. The envelope is thicker than any of Capitano’s previous letters. Your name is written on the back, the handwriting still familiar.
With that, you leave the office before Cyane can say another word.
You don’t read the letter, however. It is slipped between the pages of your notebook, joining the flowers you’d saved for your husband.
✿ ⚘
The condolences are insufferable.
Thankfully, you don’t receive any visitors or official summons from the Fatui. But sympathy gifts begin to pile up in your estate, all from your husband’s colleagues.
You’ve overheard the servants predicting a funeral in Zapolyarny Palace. It will likely happen, seeing how all of the Harbingers gathered to “mourn” La Signora.
Hopefully, you won’t be invited. From what Capitano told you, the meeting will only be a clash of egos, insincere pleasantries, formal discussions in which your husband’s death will be referred to as a necessary step in the grand scheme of the Tsaritsa.
There are also rumors that there is more to Capitano’s plan than his sacrifice. But you’ve yet to receive any official confirmation.
There is a vase of lilies from a long-forgotten acquaintance. A maid asks if you’d like to preserve it, and your response is a blank stare.
The flowers are left to wilt.
✿ ⚘
Your hobbies are your only distraction.
A week later, you continue your morning strolls. Cyane escorts you as usual, but there are more Fatuus in the distance. They are likely here to stop you from running off to Natlan.
…Snezhnaya feels colder. At this time of the year, most of the flowers have shed their petals and returned to the earth. Those that remain are all picked and passed to Cyane.
You can give them to your husband when the two of you reunite.
To think that the last time you walked around the woods, you were picking flowers without a care in the world. Though your morning strolls are more enjoyable in Capitano’s company.
The rosebush is still there. But its flowers are gone; all that remain are frost-covered thorns.
A year ago, you learned that the rosebush was artificially planted in the estate. It’s just like your husband to perform these quiet gestures for you.
Back then, you were still afraid of him. Nonetheless, he remained patient with you.
Your hand wraps around a barren stem.
The thorns are sharp, just the way you remember them. Capitano always told you to be careful when handling the roses. He’d even offer to pick them and remove the thorns for you.
He was gentle with you, too, the first time you pricked yourself on these flowers.
But it’s different now. These thorns are pricking your palm in different places. There are no white petals to absorb the blood. It is Cyane’s hand that catches your wrist, their urgent tone that breaks the silence. It is a healer, not Capitano, who treats the wounds.
Later, you flip through your notebook. Capitano’s last letter included several Natlanese flowers. Even during his most important mission, he’d taken the time to pick them for you. It was always your favorite gift, not just the flowers but the knowledge that he was constantly thinking of you.
Cyane hands you the flowers you’d picked earlier, newly thawed.
Your notebook has run out of blank pages, but you refuse to get a new one. You stack layers of flowers and parchment paper between the final pages, then you slam it shut and press down on the cover. The flowers flatten.
Still, your notebook won’t close fully.
✿ ⚘
These days, you hide in the library.
In the beginning of your captivity, there was a single stack of books in your room. As the months passed, it expanded to a floor-to-ceiling bookcase, followed by a personal library. Your husband had always been supportive of your hobby, so long as it wasn’t used “as a means to avoid him.”
The entire library is yours. Every time you receive a new book, you write your name on the front page and place it on a specific shelf. Unlike the books you handled as a librarian, your books are arranged according to your own system of classification.
A week before the messenger’s arrival, a set of books was delivered to the manor. In addition to sequels, there were new titles which you expressed interest in but never mentioned to Capitano. You assumed that it was Cyane who told him.
One of the books was written by a Snezhnayan author, but he’d purchased a translated edition. Thus, you were able to read it on your own; there was no need to wait for Capitano’s return.
The Snezhnayan titles take up their own bookcase. Unlike their newest addition, the books are all printed in their native language. As such, you couldn’t read them without Capitano’s help. By now, your proficiency has improved but you haven’t touched those books ever since he left.
What was the last book he read to you?
It was a love story about a cursed dragon and a captive princess. In the end, the dragon’s curse was lifted with true love’s kiss. And they all lived happily ever after.
But that was an adaptation of a fairytale. The original story ended in tragedy.
✿ ⚘
One night, you dream of your husband.
In your dream, you reunite with him in a meadow of dandelions and Inteyvats.
He wears a pristine uniform with an eight-pointed star over his chest. His mask is off, revealing a face free of scars and abyssal rot.
His cursed appearance had never bothered you, at least after you got used to it.
His eyes are the only part of his body which remain the same. And yet those deep blue stars are gazing at you with indifference. The same emotion that you’d seen, time and time again, in the eyes of your foster family and caretakers from Mondstadt Orphanage.
He doesn’t acknowledge you. Is it because he doesn’t recognize you?
Perhaps that is it. After all, just as Capitano’s old body has been preserved, so has yours. Every inch of your skin is covered in old bruises and wounds, along with the pain of each memory.
Your voice is audible, restored to its original state before you began speaking in whispers. When you call out to him, there is no pain in your throat.
But he doesn’t respond. Behind him, you can make sight of a war-torn battlefield.
You run towards him but the meadow stretches, widening the distance to him. Capitano turns around and walks in the direction of the battlefield, leaving crushed flowers in his wake.
Is it because he doesn’t know you? Or has he simply tired of protecting you?
In the end, even this imaginary version of your husband didn’t hesitate to discard you.
✿ ⚘
Your trip to Natlan is finally approved.
A group of Fatuus, including Cyane, make preparations to escort you. An official report confirms that you will be welcomed by the Captain’s remaining soldiers stationed in Natlan.
You don’t pack much. You are only traveling to reunite with your husband, after all.
This is different from the trip you had in mind. Before, you’d envisioned Capitano bringing you to Natlan for a vacation after his victory. He only had good things to say about the nation.
It was a year into your marriage when he told you about his battles in Natlan, his previous life in Khaenri’ah, the souls he’d carried in his heart for the past five hundred years. What he didn’t tell you was the sacrifice required to grant salvation to his fallen comrades.
Sometimes, you forget that he has lived a whole life before you.
It’s nothing to be jealous over, not when the same can be said for you.
But in those moments…it becomes clear that you were only a short chapter in his life.
You tell the servants to prepare clothes suitable for Natlan’s climate. When you check your luggage, you are pleased to note that they didn’t pack mourning attire.
You still wear your wedding ring, with its little flowers sculpted from gold and jewels.
There was no romantic proposal or wedding. A few days after your abduction, Capitano simply slipped it onto your finger. From then on, he began calling you his wife.
It was a perfect fit. Capitano had his own ring, and you rarely saw him without it.
Similar to him, you wear it around your ring finger. Other times, you hang it from a necklace chain, keeping it close to your heart.
✿ ⚘
In Natlan, you introduce yourself with Capitano’s family name.
Until now, you aren’t used to hearing a surname after your first name.
In Mondstadt, only your first name is registered in official records. When you were part of your foster family, you had no opportunity to use your new name; you only know that “______ Maier” was written in adoption papers long reduced to ashes.
In contrast, your name is registered with Capitano’s family name in Snezhnaya. And when you began accepting his love, you were all too happy to use it in conversations.
It was a significant decision. To him, who had lost his family in the Cataclysm. To you, who never had a family before him.
You also know about Capitano’s true name, though you rarely use it out of respect for his past. But whenever you dared to call him Thrain, his reaction was one of affection.
Now, in Natlan, you hear his true name spoken in reference to a legendary hero. But you don’t ask for those stories, and instead focus on your husband’s soldiers.
They are visibly somber, eroding what is left of your hope. Worse are their thoughts of you.
Prior to their mission, you were mainly known as the mysterious wife of Il Capitano with your frail countenance and melancholy gaze. But now there is a different tone to their whispers.
“The Captain’s widow is here.”
“Was her gaze always this dim?”
“Poor thing…you can tell that something has broken in her.”
Rotchev brings you to a monument honoring those who lost their lives in the war. The Captain’s image is sculpted on it, and it isn’t just his soldiers who visit it. An elderly man named Munay offers to host you in his home, out of gratitude to him.
…The nation seems lovely, and you can see why it never left your husband’s memory. But grief plants persistent seeds of resentment, and you have little reason to enjoy Natlan in solitude.
In the end, you are introduced to Ororon, the Natlanese hero who worked closely with Capitano.
He is awkward around you, if not surprised by the revelation that the Captain was married. He does recall a few instances when he spied on him picking flowers; when he gives the names, you recognize those flowers from his last gift.
He agrees to bring you to him.
✿ ⚘
Here he is.
Your husband sits upon a throne surrounded by dark ice. A stairway leads up to him.
He looks like a character straight from a fairytale. A dignified ruler. A lonely warrior distanced from those he saved. Or perhaps even a sleeping beauty waiting for his beloved to wake him.
Cyane guides Ororon away from the Throne of the Primal Fire, far enough to give you privacy but close enough to come to your aid if anything happens.
With that, you walk up the steps. You don’t stop until you’re right in front of him.
Up close, your husband looks the same. His chest rises and falls with steady breaths.
Your voice is barely above a whisper. “Capitano?”
Silence. He remains seated.
You reach out to him. “It’s me, ______.”
Cold. His body is so cold.
Still, you don’t let go of his hand. The muscles are relaxed and when you check his palm, you find his wedding ring under his gauntlet. But the warmth of his touch is gone.
You look up. “I’m sorry for making you wait. I tried…I really did try to come here as soon as possible.”
The silence is stifling.
Carefully, you kneel on the space between his legs so you can face him. Up close, you can peer into his mask. But no stars gaze back at you, only darkness.
Why would he do such a thing?
“This…isn’t the end, is it?” You speak louder, as much as your voice permits. “You didn’t get the Gnosis, after all, and the Tsaritsa…there must be another phase to your plan.”
Why did he save you if he knew your story would only end in tragedy?
Your vision blurs.
“Please. Tell me you aren’t gone.”
Blinking back tears, you shake him by his shoulders. But the only sounds you hear are the clink of chains, your unsteady breaths. The cracking of your voice.
Why have you been holding on to false hope?
Desperately, you tilt his head and bring your lips to his.
…They’re just as cold. Unresponsive.
When you pull away, he remains asleep.
“Thrain, wake up!”
What made you think that life would play out like a fairytale?
That is when you give up.
The tears won’t stop.
It’s so hard to breathe.
“Could…Couldn’t you have at least told me?” you shout. Your voice breaks again, coupled with a familiar ache in your throat. “Why…?”
What is left of your future?
How could the gods be so cruel as to deprive you of love time and time again?
For once in your life, couldn’t you be less selfish?
You cover your mouth but incoherent noises continue to spill from your lips. It’s too loud, all distinction lost between your words and your sobs. So noisy.
But Capitano’s response is nonexistent. This body doesn’t hug you; neither does it carry you out of this horrible place. It remains still, cold as a corpse, indifferent to your grief.
You bury your face into his coat and continue crying.
✿ ⚘
At some point, you cry yourself to sleep.
When you wake up, the sky is dark. You’re still clinging to Capitano’s body but a blanket covers you—did Cyane check on you? Nothing else has changed.
By now, you’re exhausted. Your voice has reached its limit, and your tears have dried. Numbly, you change your position so you can sit on your husband’s lap.
For the next few minutes, you just stay there. Taking in the silence, the familiar shape of his body, the ambience of his final resting place.
Here, the sky is foggy. There are no stars in sight.
Finally, you turn around to face him.
“Thank you for everything,” you whisper. Your throat hurts but you force out the words. “Capitano…I’ve missed you. I hope—”
I hope you come back.
But you dare not say it, thinking of your time in Mondstadt Orphanage when such words were a cruel wish. Back then, goodbyes meant that someone was leaving for a happier place. Why would anyone want them to return—discarded, faded, like you?
So you don’t say it. Your husband has suffered enough.
Instead, you take your notebook out of your bag. “Here, this is for you.”
You flip to the final pages. Then you take out all of the flowers you’d preserved from the beginning of his mission—the Natlanese flowers from his gifts, the Snezhnayan flowers picked since the day of his death.
You slip each flower into his coat pocket, close to his heart. When you touch his chest, you feel the steady rhythm of his heartbeat.
Well, there’s no denying that he loved you. Not as much as his comrades, but enough that he made room in his heart for you.
You stand up and fix the creases on his clothes. Another kiss is given but again, no reaction.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be back,” you tell him. A ghost of a smile makes its way to your face. “I still have so many flowers to offer to you, after all.”
With that, you walk down the stairway. Before you head in the direction of the exit, you turn back to look at your husband.
…He looks tranquil. Preserved in death, just like your flowers.
Wherever it is, may his soul rest in peace.
✿ ⚘
Cyane says nothing when you approach them, eyes red and voice hoarse.
Neither does Ororon, though you can tell he is resisting the urge to ask questions. Before you go separate ways, he asks if you are leaving soon.
“...No,” you whisper. With the pain in your throat, you are barely audible. “I’d like to stay longer. I still have so much to tell my husband, after all. Thank you for showing me the way.”
Cyane brings you to the Fatui encampment. The soldiers look even more concerned when they see you, but you walk past them and enter your husband’s tent.
It’s still furnished. When you go through his things, you find your letters, including the last one you sent him. A locked box containing every flower you’d gifted him. Reports written in Cyane’s handwriting. A Withering Purpurbloom that didn’t make it into his letters.
The flower is added to your notebook. You can give it to him when it is fully preserved.
Sighing, you lie down. Now that you’ve seen your husband…what’s left to do?
There is the matter of your future. You don’t want to move out of Snezhnaya; the manor has too many memories you can’t let go of. Maybe you can arrange for regular visits to your husband’s body. You don’t know if it’s grief or hope that makes you unwilling to leave what remains of him.
For now, you might as well honor his wishes and read his last words to you.
You wrap yourself in his blanket; if you close your eyes, you can pretend the warmth is from his embrace. Then you take his letter out of your bag and open the envelope.
…There are so many pages. A past version of your husband awaits you, preserved in paper and ink. And this certainly won’t be the last time you read his message—you’ll read it again and again, as with his other letters, until you can memorize it by heart.
“My beloved flower…”
✿ ⚘
The night before your husband’s departure, you stayed awake to enjoy your remaining time together.
He told you not to force yourself but you were stubborn. This would be his longest mission and for just one night, you wanted to spare him of the voices within his heart.
You helped him pack his bags. Capitano read one last Snezhnayan story to you, then he shared anecdotes from his past. The two of you went outside to view the stars and when you found none, you turned to him and said that his gaze would suffice.
Before dawn broke, the two of you cuddled in bed.
“Will you miss me?” you whispered. This time, you didn’t hold back your yawn—you made Capitano promise to wake you up in a few hours.
By now, that question had become part of your routine. His answer was always the same.
“I will.” He pulled back to look at your face. But his arms were still around you, caging you in his embrace. “From the bottom of my heart.”
There was a soft light in your eyes as you met his gaze, committing his face to memory—his scars, his abyssal rot, his loving expression, those deep blue eyes that held the stars.
Your hand moved lower to his chest, feeling the rhythm of his heartbeat. “I’ll miss you too.”
His kiss was warm. He felt your smile against his lips.
With that, you closed your eyes and fell asleep. There were so many more things you wanted to tell him, but you decided to save it for another day. For your future letters. For your inevitable reunion. For the happy future in your delusions.
As for Capitano, everything had already been said and written.
“May you thrive in the peaceful world I leave behind to you.”
♡
Happy Ending coming someday!! ヽ(;▽;)ノ
…And then Capitano got resurrected and they lived happily ever after hahahaha /deranged.
Just to be clear, Capitano isn’t dead in my I Love You, Darling universe. This fic doubles as an alternate ending AND a prelude to my next fic, which is a canon-divergent happy ending. If Hoyoverse resurrects Capitano later on, assume that this fic + the continuation are both canon to the Herbarium series (*≧∀≦*)
Fufufufu so what did you think of this tragic ending?? *evil laugh* Like I said earlier, I’m not into angst but I had fun writing this fic. I even slipped in a few parallels to Herbarium for eagle-eyed readers. Also, a big thank you to my long-time beta-reader @diodellet <3
Lastly, I want to say thank you to everyone who has expressed their love for CapiDamsel!! Capitano and Damsel will always occupy a special place in my heart and don’t worry, this isn’t the last you’ll see of them. For now, do share your tears and reactions with me >:’3

Succulent - Kinich
Spiderman AU, where Kinich is Spiderman and you are the Gwen Stacy.
Kinich unknowingly explores the same suspicious temple as you, saves a few Saurians, saves you a few times, confesses his love to you. The basic stuff.

Notes: I have had major Kinich brainrot, especially with the sunflower edits of him on tiktok. So I took it upon myself to make a spiderman AU where he's spiderman! Yay! He's definitely OOC but I tried my hardest so please try to enjoy :3
(P.S. this stuff was written before he was released so this is not cannon!)
You were a simple researcher, wandering into the depths of Natlan. There was some elemental disturbance in some uncharted land underground, not wanting anyone else to get ahead of you, you embarked on your journey alone.
“Maybe I should've hired a mercenary.. Kinich would’ve been great.” you mutter. Kinich, a great mercenary, has such a cold demeanor yet he always stares at you and gives you such a warm gaze. You shake off the thoughts of your tiny crush as you slowly make your way through rough terrain. There were lava geysers all around and a hint of evil in the air, perhaps it was the abyss order.
You carried on, almost slipping into the multiple geysers all around. Thankfully you finally reached a safe point and decided to set up camp, just a simple tent and some traps in case enemies attack.
“Just a simple salad today, I have to preserve the meat for the hardest part of the adventure.” You say to no one aloud.
You decide to mark down some observations of the cave you're in. So far you haven't come face to face with any enemies which is quite odd for an area with a highly condensed elemental energy. Perhaps someone has come before you. You mark off any important landmarks, different rocks, ancient markings. Sighing, you place your notebook down and shake your sore hand.
“Time to sleep.” You stand up and stretch before heading into your tent for the night.
.
“Log number 18. I've still been searching for the cause of the elemental disturbance. Many enemies have appeared so I've done the reasonable thing and wiped them out. I do see a temple in the distance that radiates high elemental energy, so I will be checking that tomorrow but, right now it's time for me to rest.” Click. Kinich places down his recorder.
“I’m not even getting paid for this gig. Why am I even doing this?” He sighs, leaning up against a nearby wall.
See but Kinich knew exactly why, it was because of you. See Kinich had two jobs, one as a mercenary, one as a hero. He was known as Spiderman in Natlan, the way he would effortlessly swing with his grappling hook, and kill enemies of Teyvat as quickly as a black spider. He wore a mask in this identity, nobody knew who he was. Yet as he was weakened from an enemy far too strong and there he laid on the ground. You walked up, and instead of finding out who this mysterious Spiderman was, you kept his mask on, only pulling it high enough to wipe blood off his mouth. From then on he continued to have encounters with you, it always occurred whenever he got injured in battle, you were there by his side to patch up his wounds.
“I still don't even know your name.” Kinich reminisces about the moments spent together. “I'll get rid of this and protect you.” His promise fades away in the giant cave, nobody but himself to see it true. Kinich sets up a small sleeping bag, finally deciding to get some rest.
.
“New day, new adventure!” You say, trying to be optimistic. Although the truth is you could be farther from it. The elemental energy feels even more condensed than before, and there's this feeling of impending doom following suit. You quickly pack up your supplies not wanting to waste anymore time on this research trip.
After what feels like hours, but in reality was probably no longer than 30 minutes, you see a temple in the distance.
“This…” You stare at it from afar, shocked to even say a single word. The elemental energy that is pouring out from there is outstanding, there is definitely something suspicious going on. This is the first time in this adventure where you had second doubts, you definitely should've hired a mercenary, maybe Kinich. It's far too late for that now you decide as you begrudgingly step towards.
.
“These puzzles are definitely different from the ones we see around Natlan, right Ajaw?” Kinich looks at the strange mechanism.
“You really do suck if you can't get us through here. Wanna impress your lover researcher right? Right? Also why are you wearing that stupid mask, nobody is around.” Ajaw teases and questions the poor Kinich as he starts to get pissed.
“One I don't have a lover, two, this is for Natlan’s sake, something you must not understand, and three, I’ve gotten used to wearing it.” Kinich shoos away the now red Ajaw. “Finally figured out how it works though.” As he says that a door that was previously locked opens up.
“I see you've come to stop our plans once again traveler- ergh?!” A flame welding abyss lector pauses mid speech.
“Traveler? Do you mean the blond haired saviour going around helping people?” Kinich asks, recognizing the famous traveler.
“You're kinda totally ruining the plan I had dude.” The abyss lector says in defeat.
“What do you mean ruining the plan, huh!?” Ajaw yells, still upset about earlier.
“Well, the traveler and I were supposed to fight. After all, I totally ran away from our fight last time, heh. Just didn't wanna die you know?” The abyss lector laughs off his misfortune. “Nevermind that now I have to kill you, after all I can't have you leaking our information out and about.”
“Let's win this Kinich!” Ajaw says, trying to pump up his dear servant.
“Whatever you say I guess.” Kinich responds.
.
“These puzzles.. They're complete, someone had to have been here before.” You conclude. When you arrived at the temple you saw numerous doors open. There were many unfamiliar marks covering the temple head to toe, you only recognize a few as abyss symbols. Through careful observation you notice an odd placing brick on the wall, not wanting to inspect it with your own hands, you opt for a nearby stick. You take a deep breath in and push against the suspicious brick, allowing a secret passage downwards to open.
“Thank god that wasn't a trap.” You breathe a sigh of relief.
After finishing writing down all the information you need about this current room you decide to explore this secret passage, it's basically just a bunch of stairs leading downwards.
.
“Shit you're one slippery guy, and what the hell is with that skill you're seriously like a spider.” The flame bearing abyss lector complains, definitely aggravated from the injuries inflicted on him.
“Yeah I tend to go by Spiderman, don't let the name wear out.” Kinich says, quickly using his skill to cover his eyes with his grapple, reducing his eyesight.
While covering the abyss lector’s eyes he uses a secondary grappling hook to start to spin himself, effectively wrapping the enemy up.
“You damned brat! You'll pay for this!” The abyss lector yells while using his pyro skills, effectively destroying the web like wire that blocked his vision and disabled his movement.
“Too bad you weren't paying attention.” Kinich mutters, slicing his claymore against the back of the abyss lector, leading to its defeat.
“Ajaw, find anything of interest on his body, I'm going to check this machinery out.” Kinich orders Ajaw around, to which Ajaw complains but compiles.
In this room there's multiple computers showing different results, many different files of interest, and… a tube? Leading to where. Kinich is left to wonder. He takes a closer look at the tube to see a purple substance flow through it.
“Ajaw, find out where this tube leads, we'll switch jobs.” Kinich says, shoving Ajaw away from the flame abyss lector's body.
“Meh meh meh meh. Mr. Bossy-pants.” Ajaw mocks but goes right to finding where the location of the purple substance is coming from.
.
“I should've turned around.” You can't help but complain. You had been walking down these stairs for god knows how long, with barely any light, and no clue if there's enemies at the bottom.
“I'm so dead aren't I.” You cry. In the middle of you trying to accept your fate you see a brighter light. Hopeful that it's the bottom you pick up your pace only to be met face to face with, prison cells?
There were glass cells, no, chambers filled with Saurians, a purple substance being sucked out and pushed into a hole in the middle of the room. You take careful steps forward, heartbroken, shocked at the sight you're seeing. The dragon's that inhabit the lands of Natlan, being sucked dry of their elemental energy. This has to be the work of the abyss order, you conclude. You look at the seemingly bottomless pit in the middle of the room.
“This is… despicable. How could they do this to innocent creatures?” You mutter, looking down into the pit with sadness.
“Oh? What's my number one fan doing here?” A familiar voice echoes in front of you.
“Ah, Spiderman-!?” You look up only to be met face to face with an upside down Spiderman.
“I'm not surprised you're here, but why are you here alone? You don't have a vision so this place is draining you of your energy.” A slight bit of concern covers Spiderman's voice.
“I had to explore. This cave was uncharted and I wanted to resolve this issue as soon as possible.” You answer his question, “Not to mention you're hurt yourself. When did this happen?” He just scratches the back of his head.
“Just had a fight just now I'm alright though. Had to win to see you once again.” Spiderman admits. “It looks like I'll have to have another fight though. Please stay back alright.” He says while pulling down his mask, just enough to show his mouth. He moves forwards enough to give you a light kiss against your lips. He gives you a smile before putting his mask back on and jumping right into the fight.
You stand there for a few seconds processing what just happened. Not only did the Spiderman just say he wanted to see you again, but he also just kissed you? You hear the noise of abyss mages getting hurt and remember what Spiderman told you to do, so you try to walk over to the other side, away from the fighting.
You watch in awe as the amazing Spiderman uses his webs to his advantage, dodging the attacks from abyss mages and using them to weaken the shields so he can do heavy damage with his claymore. You’re so enamored by his performance you don’t realize how close to the edge of the pit you get too.
“Finally done with these abyss mages.” Kinich mutters, turning to you only to see you dangerously close to the edge, with abyss mages behind you. “Watch out-!” Kinich tries to call out to you but it’s too late, the abyss mages push you into the pit.
Kinich is quick to react, quickly using his grappling hook to connect and grab you, which ends successfully. Only problem now? He had two electro abyss mages in front of him, his grappling hook unusable at the moment. The panic that Spiderman was going to lose his battle, and someone he holds close to his heart.
No, he thinks. He can’t let it happen again, he can’t. The few times Kinich opened his heart it was left broken, with the death of his father and now soon to be you. He can start to feel his arms weaken and-
“How did you beat me here!?” A scream comes from up top. Kinich’s eyes open in surprise, then his lips curve into a small smile.
“Ajaw, could you please get these mages out of their shields, I need to get our friend out of this pit.” He orders, no, commands Ajaw, to which he slowly complies. Ajaw begins to attack the abyss mages, holding his own as Kinich quickly pulls you up to the top, hoping you were still alive in his grappling hook.
“It’s funny really, I don’t understand why a simple researcher like you caught my eye.” Kinich mumbles to himself seeing your body appear from the purple smoke filled pit. Admittedly Kinich was scared out of his mind when you weren’t moving, but a simple pulse check let him know that you weren’t dead, but unconscious. A huge wave of relief flooded Kinich knowing you were safe. That’s when he swiftly grabbed his claymore which he had disregarded and landed the final attack on the abyss mages.
“We’ll report this to the warriors in Natlan. They’ll free the surviving Saurians.” Ajaw suggests which Kinich agrees.
Kinich reaches up and removes his mask, his face covered with scratches, blood, and sweat. Yet even so, he smiles warmly knowing that you were safe.
.
Your head is spinning. You can’t see anything. You’re asleep. You have to just wake up. Wake up.
“Ugrh.” You groan, slowly opening your eyes to a recovery room. “Where am I?” You manage to speak out loud.
“You’re awake! I’m glad. See Kinich here found you in a temple and apparently you were all passed out, if he were later you might’ve died.” The doctor explains to you. Kinich? He found you but the only one who was at the temple with you was- oh.
You quickly sit up surprising Kinich and the doctor who was at your side. You smile, “Thank you for the update doctor, but I need to speak with Kinich alone, if that’s alright.” You say weakly, nonetheless the doctor understands and leaves the two of you to your business.
“So, you’re Spiderman.” You state, waiting for him to deny, after all it can’t be true the the mercenary Kinich can also be the amazing Spider-
“Yeah.” He answers. Your thoughts pause, you freeze, and you just stare at him in shock.
“Why?” You ask, and he just tilts his head in confusion. “Why would you tell me your secret? I'm just a regular researcher, I don’t even have a vision.” You question, confused on why he would reveal his identity.
“It’s simple. Out of every fan I meet, you’re the only face I can remember, if I see you in a crowd I always tend to go into that direction. I may not even know your name but you show me with such care despite not knowing who I am.” Kinich confesses, a slight blush covering his cheeks.
“It’s right to be nice to everyone, even unknown identities.” You say.
“I guess you’re right, so will you humour me for a while and go on a date with me?” He asks you, looking at you with a warm gaze and a loving smile.

With Natlan's AQ coming to a close and I had time to really think about it and see other's perspective of it. I have some thoughts. And its gonna discuss the entire AQ as a whole and not just Act 5.
In short
More consistent action and flare than Fontaine
Way too much 'waiting for the right moment' and no other preparations are shown because of it.
The blind trust to said moment. Noone vetoed this, noone was worried about this, noone doubted this. So everything felt weightless.
Mavuika is a mary sue. Her hardheaded and blind trust to an event that may or may not happen just so happens to go right. She's so confident it'll work out she spent the days leading up to the final battle painting. So everything she does has no weight to it when it's blatantly obvious they're gonna win and ruined anything hoyo tried to do to create any tension.
Capitano is the goat and it's a shame he had a fraction of the screen time but alot more impact.
I have to say the level of action and flare they used in the entire AQ is alot more consistent than Fontaine.
We all should admit that we came into an AQ expecting interaction and action from playable characters and not NPCs unless they built them up enough to care for. Fontaine's evidence searching and crime solving part is understandably slow for some people and it can really hinder the pace, especially Meropide's part where it fully focuses on NPC's instead of actually figuring out Wrio's and Lyney's plans (which is sidelined until the very end)
The action scenes and AQ specific domains are great. I like that they aren't making us watch still images or summaries of events and actually let's us play through certain scenes, especially the Act 4 war and Act 5 making our way to the eye of the Abyss part. I love that it gives us choices and consequences based on our choices and ACTUALLY shows that consequence instead of telling us. Makes it feel like they're putting effort into the story telling.
The actual weight of the plot...? Not so much. I think it is very cliche with not alot of active impact from playable characters. The ending falls flat compared to what was set up.
In Act 1-2, it felt cliché for Paimon to point out 'oh look it's time for us to solve this nation's crisis', pointing it out doesn't make it any better but this is just a pet peeve and pretty neglegible.
I was sceptical about Natlan from the start, I admit that, but I like how the characters had an active choice and struggle during these acts. Kachina chose to stay in the tourney and train, Mualani chose to switch teams, they didn't wait for a thing to happen to do thing, they initiated it first.
Mavuika and Capitano fight still doesn't make sense to me. It's alot of needless flare with no substance to me. It feels like Capitano just waltzed in there with no other plan than to fight Mavuika for the gnosis. Like he didn't even plan his escape, he just so happened to be saved by Ororon.
Act 3-4 while had character interaction, feels tonally wrong. Like are Mavuika and co. NOT doing anything else but to wait for the 6 heroes to show up? Mavuika FOUGHT against Capitano's methods because she believes her way is better but it feels so... shallow? She just trusts that the 6 heroes will show up on time without any doubts or Plan B's at all...? Also in the beginning Mavuika told us to be careful when sharing the news that a war might break out but the first thing we do is... tell people...? Out right...? Sure.
The war was done well, I like that we have choices and consequences. The end sequence literally is a My Little Pony clone but it does fit with the consistent theme of solidarity in war and nationalism. Still felt cheesy to me.
Act 5. ACT 5 is the worst tonal shift of all time to me. So we spent the first half celebrating when we know something else is there, no preparation or doubts. Even Mavuika is like 'ah yes let me paint to pass the time :)', it feels... arrogant, it feels as if it's absolutely undisputed that we are gonna win. So there's no tension at all even when they finally try to make the final battle feels important. Even the stadium bit feels off, there's literally NO signs that we are losing but for some reason the Sacred Flame goes out...?
While I like that they brought out memorable NPCs from world quests, the part about the 6 heroes feels so extremely tacked on. Like wow the 6 first heroes gave us blessings randomly in the middle of the sequence even though the actual power up sequence to get pyro traveller is still... way after that so it felt... useless? The entire boss battle even feels so weightless because yeah, you're gonna win, what is there to root for lmao.
Don't get me started on the celebration afterwards, the long awkward section where you allegedly spend a while giving out autographs and taking pictures. It feels like Hoyo is popping a party popper in our face and going CONGRATS YOU DID IT! CELEBRATE NOW! THIS IS A CELEBRATION. If they were trying to divert our attention from Mavuika's death then it's a shit attempt. Because the final battle didn't feel like it had weight, so it feels not worth celebrating.
Capitano is the only saving grace of this AQ and even then he's been sidelined for the entire act so while the logic for his sacrifice to Ronova was great (hell even more hyped about this than the entire final battle), it didn't have the impact it probably should've had. It felt like he had an entire side quest that we didn't get to see or hint at unless you count the very first dream opening Act 5.
Now my biggest issue with this nation is WHY IS THERE SO MUCH WAITING FOR THE RIGHT MOMENT????
Kachina deserved to be one of the 6 heroes instead of Xilonen. We literally don't know what Xilonen and Iansan even do to earn that title but they just... are??? We atleast see Kachina fighting for a spot in the Night Wars and we hear about Mualani and Kinich's wins but Xilonen and Iansan???
Mavuika vetoed Capitano's plans that actually had substance and logic behind it because she just.... trusts that it'll happen. Does she not worry they won't show up?? Does she not have Plan B's?? She had absolutely 0 worries at all so she just... feels so flat. Then in the final battle she just... doesn't worry at all, like I understand as an archon and a leader it's best that you act like it, but there's like... absolutely zero signs that she's worried. Even when she's talking to her LONG LOST SISTER SHE'S JUST... FINE??? MOVES ON??? ARE YOU NOT GONNA TELL YOUR WORRIES TO YOUR SISTER??? OR DO YOU JUST NOT HAVE WORRIES AT ALL????
Man idk, the ending flops for me. Rip capitano one of the only good thing about this nation and he isnt even from it. But we SEE HIS STRUGGLE, HIS DOUBTS, HIS FAILURES, AND HIS SACRIFICE AND SUCCESS WHILE WE GET SHIT ALL FROM MAVUIKA SO LIKE????? WHAT WE'RE THEY DOING???????
#head in hands#idk what to feel anymore#im so willing to forgive the shonen anime cliche because natlan is all about solidarity#but literally what the fuck were they doing for that ending#lyssten to my rambles

The only gift 🎁
aaAAA I rly wanted to draw a comic this year but ended up rushing it due to not having time so excuse the messiness I tried even if I finished late...
anyway to the point; HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Wanderer I can't believe he's been out for 3 YEARS??? 🎉💕
little explanation;
the Traveler is off to Natlan for the final battle (5.3 update) and Wanderer is worried in his own stubborn way, yet the Traveler thought ahead in case they couldn't make it back - asking Nahida to deliver the gift but Wanderer just wants them to be okay
(also yes, my Wanderer's name is Rei ❤️ )

Her Champion - Mavuika x Kinich's older sister!Reader - Part Two
First Part Next Part
request: do you think maybe you can do another one which talks about how the reader is Kinich’s older sister and having an affair with Mavuika?
Warnings: domestic violence, childhood trauma, abandonment, child abuse, neglect, death, alcoholism, gambling, Ajaw being rude still trying to figure out how to write Kinich and Ajaw, so characters may be ooc - I read Kinich's lore a lot to write this…
Fic under the cut, don't repost my stuff on other platforms, i have ao3 which my fics are also available on.
Winning the Pilgrimmage and gaining the attention of the Pyro Archon, 'Kiongozi' Mavuika, wasn't what you anticipated however. You scraped through the team stages with whoever approached you each time. Kinich was always busy or had another team lined up. One year, he decided to participate in some Saurian Relics Association survey instead of take part. He came home with K'uhul Ajaw, an almighty headache- dragonlord, and you went on to participate in the Night Warden Wars.
Mavuika watched over the battle from the Speaker's Chamber, watching as you never stopped fighting, not even when you saw the other members of your team fall to the abyss. You brought alone brought them victory, but the celebrations did not interest you. Again.
Mavuika wanted to know why. Why did her champion refuse any acknowledgement of victory in the every Night Warden Wars you participated in?
She ended up asking her 'Hot Spring Buddies' about you, after realising that you had failed to come to the People of the Springs to celebrate, even after Atea's personal invitation.
"Honestly, I'd never seen her before her first Pilgrimmage." Atea admitted, a frown on her face as you disappeared from the stadium far too quickly.
"Kinich's older sister. The two were living with Elder Leik up in the mountains, but now… I'm not sure." Vichama elaborated, but it left Mavuika with a lot to wonder.
Why not get some answers from the source?
///
She knew Kinich well already, he inherited the ancient name 'Malipo' from her childhood friend, Burkina. But she hadn't had the opportunity to speak to you, and Kinich didn't talk about his past at all, he barely mentioned he had a sister to her in fact.
When she sent the team to the Night Warden Wars each time, you barely looked her way, instead staring at the entrance like it was calling to you. Had she ever heard you speak?
"So, this is how I finally get to congratulate my champion in person." Mavuika found you staring at a large plot of land, from the looks of it, multiple different crops had been planted and were growing well.
"Archon? Is there something you need?" Kinich approached her first, Ajaw kept quiet by the grapes you had thrown at him earlier, while you watched the woman from the corner of your eye.
"Hello Kinich, how have you been?"
You could feel her eyes drift over you, but you didn't say a word as you headed inside, telling yourself that it was snack time just to avoid talking to the archon.
You didn't worship her like most people in Natlan, you were completely uninterested, which made Mavuika's intrigue for you even worse.
"She called you 'her champion'. Did you skip out on your reward for winning again?"
"Wasn't in the mood." That was your excuse, but Kinich knew better. He only nodded, folding his arms and looking over to where Mavuika was waiting on the two of you to join her.
"Servant! Fetch me more- ah! How dare you throw grapes at K'uhul Ajaw, the Almighty Dragonlord, you, you wench!" Ajaw screeched, gaining everyone's attention as you stared icily at the pixelated creature, "stop- stop looking at me like that!"
Mavuika watched as Kinich slapped Ajaw into a time out, while you disappeared into the mountains, taking your weapon with you. Mavuika's gaze remained on you until you disappeared out of sight, smiling at Kinich as he said nothing but the look on his face was laced with confusion. What business did the Archon have with you, he wondered…
You weren't the first to win the Pilgrimmage, Kinich having won and gone to the Night Warden Wars last year, getting his dendro vision in the process. The one year you didn't participate due to getting injured while fighting him… the look on his face after that still haunted you as you didn't even wince at the pain.
The Pyro Archon wasn't someone who gave up easily however, as she found you as you were training, watching you carefully as you practiced over and over.
"My champion, may I have a word with you?"
"Forget the pleasantries, just tell me what you want." you turned your head to look at her, twisting your weapon away from her as she approached. Mavuika knew the craftsmanship immediately, one of Xilonen's creations, but she had no doubt that you had influenced the design.
You cleared your throat, waiting for Mavuika to speak, but she only blinked and met your eyes with a smile that felt so warm it was almost uncomfortable… had anyone ever looked at you like that before? Could your mother have, before…

NATLAN SPOILERS PLS DON'T READ UNTIL YOU FINISH THE 5TH ACT
Here me out on Ororon finding out he's pregnant after Capitano passes and having to give birth with out telling anyone who the father is
pretty please mpreg angst feeds my soul
I haven't been able to stop thinking about this...I'm never going to forgive them for taking Capitano from us.
TW: general angst of dealing with grief
The distant sound of celebration causes Ororon's head to pound. The music had been ringing out for days at this point, warriors and their families shouting thanks and praises, misty-eyed with relief, the war was finally over.
Ororon knows he should be with them, joining in on the cheer and celebrating the end of their long, weary battle. Part of him wants to stand beside the others, partake in a drink or two, and lose himself to the overstimulation of a hard-won victory celebration.
Instead, all he can bring himself to do is huddle further under his blankets, tears soaking his pillow as grief chewed through every fiber of his being.
A knock at his bedroom door,
"Young ones like you shouldn't be wasting their time in bed." Citlali chastises, "Everyone is asking where you are."
He swallows hard, emotion thick in his throat,
"Maybe....tomorrow."
~~~
He ignores it.
As his hands dig into the warm soil, the roiling nausea in his gut grows stronger. It had been weeks since it started, but Ororon stubbornly refused to acknowledge it as anything other than a lingering side effect of his grief.
Chasca hadn't faired much better once the adrenaline of battle had worn off, and the weight of her loss finally began to drag her under. Granny had spoken about how she'd vanished from everyone's sight for weeks before finally turning back up, red-eyed and much thinner than when she'd disappeared.
Its no different for him, except, his battle was private, and no one knew just how deep the cut had run.
Tossing his soiled clothing aside, and letting the water run down his aching body, Ororon closes his eyes.
Perhaps he was going mad.
The phantom feeling of Capitano's large hands trailing down his chest, over his thighs and belly, the weight of his body pressed against his back...
Ororon stumbles forward, barely able to grab hold of the sink before his stomach turns and the measly breakfast he'd managed splatters against the porcelain.
He shutters, feeling too cold for the Nataln heat, and stands up, wiping the back of his hand over his mouth.
His eyes lock onto his reflection, and that chill grows stronger as one hand slides up slowly from his side before his fingertips graze over the gentle swell starting to form under his navel.
Granny wouldn't be by that day, and Ororon is grateful for that, or else the scream he lets out would have shattered her peaceful view of her odd, but quiet grandson.
~~~
Everyone knows, but no one says a word aside from Citlali.
The months ticked by, and his belly continued to grow until it sat round and heavy against his slender frame. People stare, and he knows there's rumors being whispered when he's out of earshot, everyone quietly assuming the father must have died in the war, but how had no one known there was someone?
The midwife doesn't seem to care, offhandily remarking that the father must have been a large warrior, as Ororon's middle was already pushing full term at only seven months in.
Granny was furious, raging about how irresponsible he'd been, how foolish it was to risk a pregnancy during a war, how could he not have said something? Why hadn't he told her? Why wasn't he telling her more? Was the father so shameful, Ororon didn't want to claim their heritage?
A crib and a barrage of other newborn items had shown up on his doorstep days later, though she insists they weren't from her.
~~~
The stars are glittering in the sky, a peaceful calm settled over the land, while Ororon sobbed inside the side of his bed. A mess of blankets are thrown haphazardly over the floor, his nude frame glistening with sweat as his belly tightens like a drum.
Labor had started nearly a full day before, and Ororon is left cursing Capitano for putting such a stubborn child into his womb and having the gall to leave him.
It wasn't fair.
Why him?
Why was he left alone, carrying a child that would never be able to know just how wonderful a man their father was?
Ororon sobs, gripping the sheets as he deepens his squat, his waters bursting as the baby gives a particularly harsh kick.
Would Capitano even have wanted this?
Would he have hated him?
Would he have been happy?
Would they have been a family?
His belly quivers, another contraction finally forcing his stubborn child into crowning. The burn is instant, unlike anything he'd ever felt before, and he screams.
One hand reaches down, gasping for air as their head begins to bulge. He can't see them over the crest of his heaving middle, but his fingers gently trace the shape of their eyes, nose and finally, he feels their head pop free.
Blood and fluid trickle onto the blankets, one last desperate push sending his child tumbling into his waiting hands.
The midwife was right, the child is large, all chubby cheeks and hearty squawls as Ororon brings them to his chest. They flail for a moment before settling, snuffling and whimpering as Ororon all but falls to the ground, careful to keep them safe.
"My baby...my son." Ororon can hardly see them in the dark and through his tears, but his little boy has a mess of dark hair, and a delicate pair of ears matching his own.
"My baby boy..." he cuddles them tight, breaking down.
War Bonds
[stadium]
Mualani:Looks at you, eating like a king! Here I thought you might be losing your appetite when I invited you out.
Aether:I’ve come to learn that even when you’re nervous, eating is a must. To this day I think the worst part of Inazuma was fighting the Archon on an empty stomach.
Mualani:The fact that you can say that so casually is proof enough why our archon wants you in the final fight. I’m honestly surprised she hasn’t approached you yet.
Aether:There’s still time before final preparations for tomorrow.
Mualani:Yeah of course, but if she was going to make a move on you it’s tonight or nothing.
Aether:….*puts mug down* What?
Mualani:Hmm? Oh right! Sorry. It’s common practice before warriors go to war to bond with their comrades the day before. In most cases when it’s possible, bonding is…rather intimate. After all, tomorrow is never promised.
Aether:Are you pulling my leg?
Mualani:Haha, no I’m serious. Just ask Kinich. We’ve participated in a Night Warden War and planned abyss attack together. The night before, nothing was left to the imagination. *sips ale* It’s not like a concrete rule or anything but tension and stress run high. It also strengthens ties. You and her are the only ones going to final battle sooooo.
Aether:I am….fairly certain none of that is happening. I mean- pfft, me!? No. That’s crazy.
Mualani:Is the man who fought dragons shaking in his boots over the idea of Mavukia’s advances? Hehe, you were pretty steadfast against me. Although admittedly, I don’t scream “imposing” or tower over you.
Aether:Oh you made me nervous, but you weren’t made of flames or punched a hole into the sky.
Mualani:Yeah she’s a tall order. Personally, I’d go for it.
Aether:You’re insane.
Mualani:It’s the pyro archon! I’d bed her if she asked to war bond. That’s not only an honor, but she’s gorgeous!
Aether:Kinda sounds like you want to take my spot.
Mualani:If I had it my way, I’d be fighting alongside the both of you without question. You know that. Anyways, if you had any reservations on my part or anything, don’t. Believe me when I say plenty can tell you stories of war bonding and moving on with life. It probably would’ve happened during our last attack if it wasn’t a surprise.
Aether:I think we’re jumping the gun here. I really don’t this tradition of yours is even on her mind with all the chaos happening.
Mavukia:What Archon of War forgets bonding?
The speed of which the blonde boy’s head whipped around was comical. Mavukia was right behind him, casually waving.
Mavukia:If I didn’t know any better, I think I might take offense haha.
Aether:*red* Ummmm.
Mavukia:Relax. I’m merely joking, and Mualani is emphasizing a certain aspect a little too much. *smiles*
Mualani:What? I mentioned it was optional and only a way of bonding.
Mavukia:I was indeed going to bring up War Bonding to you, but the essence of it is in the name. As long as it’s the two of us bonding before the final battle, the activity can be anything. What’s important is we’ll feel closer, discard regrets, and feel ready for what’s ahead.
Aether:That sounds way more…casual and less surprising as a tradition.
Mavukia:That’s the idea, but to be clear, I wouldn’t have hid any options from you. I was thinking a nice ride around all of Natlan on my cycle. Long drives can be relaxing and it would be a nice experience to share. That being said, I’m no stranger to the other aspects of this particular tradition. I’m comfortable with whatever you are and more than one thing is allowed to happen.
Mualani:People wouldn’t really have the stamina or strength to run into battle if all they did before was have sex. Kinich wouldn’t have faired too well in battle if that were the case.
Aether:Hasn’t he died before?
Mualani:Unrelated.
Mavukia:Anyways, I have a few more things to check over. In an hour, I will be free for the rest of the day. Aether, regardless of what we do, we should take the opportunity to hangout together the rest of the day. I wouldn’t have asked you to join me if I didn’t trust you with not just my life, but the lives of my people as well. Hopefully I can return that level of trust so tomorrow holds no doubt in our hearts. Enjoy your meal. *walks away*
Aether:…I’m choosing the motorcycle.
Mualani:Multiple things can be ridden in a day.
Aether:You’re ridiculous.
Mualani:I am an achiever! Just ask Kinich! This is normal thinking.
Aether:I don’t think he would agree?
xxxxxxx
Kinich:War Bonding with the archon? I’d lock up Ajaw immediately and make the most of our time mentally, and physically. If she desired me, I’d act without question.
Mualani:*smirks*
Aether:….
Kinich:…*red* What? I’m calm and rational, not blind. Mavukia is the second most gorgeous woman I’ve met in Natlan.
Mualani:*red* Oh hush. What are you trying to do? Earn a discount at my shop?
Kinich:I’m only speaking my mind.
Aether:(How is this more stressful than facing Raiden? The civil war was far less exhausting.)
Mualani:Anyway, don’t over think this. Do whatever you’re comfortable with. Besides, it’s not like Kinich and I have our hands full.
Aether:Wh- Mualani, what angle are you working here!?
Mualani:I’m a guide! I’m just giving all the information!
My thoughts on act 6 of Natlan;
- this is the final act. The previous act was filler, despite being the act that should've been the final act. And how does this final act start? It tells you to skip forwards 2 days. Then Paimon says that Mavuika wants to meet them TOMORROW. Not to the day you were told to skip forwards to, TOMORROW. Then you have to go to the inn and sleep. Then you have a vague dream about Capitano because why not. Then you go to Mavuika's office. She says that the final battle is... in 3 days. This is an awful lot of useless days we are uselessly skipping.
- we then insert MORE filler into the final act by having a huge feast. Here, characters talk about dreams to segway into Traveler talking about their dream, which segways into Ororon doing a ritual with them to figure out wtf it was. In the final act. At least we aren't literally walking around talking to Paimon for 20 minutes like in Fontaine act 5?
- I'm still not a huge fan of Mavuika, but she gets a point from me for saying that it's better to actually talk to Capitano than to stand around debating his intentions.
- I'm really sad that Iansan is turning out to be a nothingburger character :(. She has the best design in the cast, and she's a travail trailer character, and you just made her a random... coach?? With none of the personality her travail appearance was showing?? You can really see the difference between how they wrote Cyno (who has much lighter skin) and the pale skinned travail characters to be important + with actual personalities, and how they wrote her to be really boring, with her only big contribution to the story being in a filler act and Becoming A Hero off screen.
- back to how much the beginning of the act is pure meandering- after spending at least 10 minutes in the feast, we slowly travel over to Xilonen with Kachina, while reminiscing about what happened in act 1 and talking about Kachina's saurian buddy. Then you find said saurian and 'fix' his trauma with the Instant Trauma Curing Medicine from act 5. Throughout all of this, we never acknowledge that Kachina is a child soldier who shouldn't have to be a brave and strong warrior. Why couldn't we have just teleported to Xilonen?
- on a more positive note, all of the stuff with the souls was actually really cool. Or- well, the quest forcing you to spend a long time following Citlali around helping souls, while not doing anything yourself, was very boring. It's the concept itself that was cool. It further solidified Citlali and Ororon being my favorites.
- I still can't believe that act 4 ended with "Traveler and Mavuika need to go do the Final Battle", and then act 5 was a filler act for no reason, and act 6 makes you skip forwards 2 days TWICE, sleep in the inn, talk to Mavuika about taking a break, eat lunch, debate Capitano's intentions some more, and reminisce with Kachina about act 1 before actually getting to the battle. It took me about an hour just to get to Mavuika's pre-battle speech.
- Traveler's poorly established saurian buddy shows up at the randomest of times, just to remind you that he exists. I still don't get the point of forcing Traveler to have a saurian companion? It's not even like... giving us a pyro saurian and having them be a part of Traveler's pyro kit or something.
- I found it funny when, within like 2 minutes of using Mavuika, it gave me a floating motorcycle pathway to use, telling me to use her stupid motorcycle to get through it, and then I literally glided down no problem. How hard could it have been to set up the environment so that I had to use it? Lol
- the transitions between Traveler's pov and Mavuika's looked goofy. Like, why a silly cartoon trope, of all things? I hope they don't keep it...
- honestly, Mavuika doing everything by herself while Traveler needed help from npc's every step of the way did not help me already feeling like Traveler gets way too much credit. Why not just bring the so called 'chosen heroes' along instead of random npc souls? It really feels like Traveler has spent this entire aq waiting around for someone to bring them their power ups, and act 6 is when they receive them.
- I especially didn't feel like Traveler deserved all of this praise when, after Mavuika did half of the work on the weekly boss, while Traveler did nothing except find her already fighting them and look cool beside her, we got the biggest Traveler praise fest yet. Oh my god did I hate Traveler signing autographs for people. Are you kidding me. This is how far we're willing to go with praising Traveler now?
- the Night Kingdom is really pretty, and reminds me a lot of how much I enjoyed the Chasm and Enkanomiya. I wish it was an underground map that you could actually explore for yourself. You could have easily reused elements from Chasm and Enkanomiya for it. Namely, the soul npc's from Enkanomiya would've been a great basis for using the souls in the Night Kingdom a bit better. Especially with the idea that some of these souls were characters you met before they died, who only appear after a certain point in the story.
- I couldn't care less about the new weekly boss or Mavuika and Traveler sharing powers or any of that, honestly. I just... don't really have anything to say about it? Idk. It felt like generic Hero stuff like the rest of the main plotline, I guess. It is pretty bad that the big climax of the act was so generic that I can't think of anything to say about it.
-additionally, the boss itself is by far the most disjointed any weekly boss has been from the questline it comes from. Like... why are we fighting an evil(?) dragon, that is also multiple previous pyro archons, wielding double swords? Why? What happened here?
- acting like Mavuika is going to die in the update she became playable? Surely, Hoyo knew no one was going to believe that...? And after sort of doing that last year in Fontaine too...
- the actual ending really felt like it was just... suddenly sprung up on you after the cutsy Traveler praise fest. Why couldn't you just have the weekly boss be something guarding a gateway to the red area Citlali brought Traveler to, and have Capitano also show up to the fight?
- I'm also not a fan of Capitano being missing for the whole act outside of Traveler's weird dream, then suddenly showing up, giving everyone a lore dump, getting a Cool Cutscene, and dying. He was one of the best characters here, with one of the best designs in the game, and he was killed off. It's greatly annoying, especially considering that he was likely killed off instead of being playable because he wasn't showing off a conventionally attractive face. And that there are very few notable Khaenri'ahns to begin with.
- Rovona looks SUPER COOL! This is the angel design we deserve. I love it!
- I'm honestly glad that the aq didn't end with making up some bullshit excuse to have Mavuika give the Fatui the pyro gnosis. At least we're not going to be sitting around wondering why the Fatui aren't doing anything when they have all the gnosis for 1-2 years while we wait for Snezhnaya.
- what was the point of ending the aq with an npc recounting the events of the aq to a group of kids?
Natlan Archon Quest 5.1 Thoughts and Theories
Compared to the last archon quest, this was a major step up for me in all aspects. There was a sense of grandness to it all, especially with the music and animation. Also, I'm so weak for Capitano you guys. His voice 😍🥵 alright I'll stop. But my Capitano agenda is far from over.
Spoilers below
Boy oh boy did I enjoy seeing everyone rally together to fight the Abyss. And the Abyss I felt was a pretty legitimate threat. (side note: i'm glad they didn't make us wait for the next patch to see the actual battle). The map was consumed by Abyssal power, reminding me of that one Enkanomiya event. And people died. You'd get to sites with people and everyone would be gone. It was lowkey chilling and Genshin really has stepped up in terms of how dark it wants the story to be. Chasca's sister, Chuychu, didn't make it. Their final words to each other were really heartfelt and it was sad to watch them say goodbye.
On a much lighter note, the cutscenes of Mavuika and the six heroes using their powers was soooo freaking cool, especially with the music. Side note, I'm glad they didn't shove the Traveler in as the final hero since this wasn't their fight technically. I loved seeing Mavuika use all her abilities and create that giant starburst thing in the sky to fight the Abyss. It gave me major Endgame vibes ngl. I was having a blast. This quest also made me really love Mavuika. She cares so deeply about her people and home that she'd sacrifice herself to save it all. It's a heavy price, but she's willing to pay it. Aside from Mavuika's selfless nature, she also looked epic when she fought the Abyss in the sky.
The new characters in general I really enjoyed, especially Ororon. I do like his design and I love how his voice tone changes from serious to almost childish when talking to Citlali. And his lore is really fascinating since he has an incomplete soul. Citlali gives me major Faruzan energy, but she has a beautiful design and she's pretty relatable imo with her awkwardness. I liked her a lot. Xilonen had a lot of charisma imo. Although I haven't figured out how to use her on the field during her playable segments.
And Capitano. My gosh did this man become very interesting. Not only is he Khaenri'ahn, but apparently his face is rotting from living for so long AND he knows Dain. He's a lot more tragic than I initially expected, having lost everything and everyone to the cataclysm. And out of all the Harbingers, alongside Childe (maybe Arlecchino with the HoH), he's definitely one of the more altruistic ones. His methods were extreme, but at the end of the day, he wanted to save Natlan, having lost so much already. Capitano was willing to put aside his own pride with his plan and listen to Mavuika's, helping her and the others defend their home. He even gave her all his soldiers to have for reinforcements. He's not driven by evil the way Dottore is or is vengeful to a destructive degree like Scaramouche. He's honorable and driven by the pain of his past. Vengeance too probably, but he didn't wipe Natlan clean to save it.
The lore was also fascinating. To talk to the Lord of the Night was really cool and I loved getting to know more about Teyvat as a whole. Btw, the "sky is fake" claim is finally proven true.
Overall, I was very satisfied with this Archon quest and could honestly watch a whole show on Natlan trying to fend off the Abyss. It reminds me of the Long Night but significantly better executed on almost all fronts (music still slapped).
Going forward, I definitely think we will see Mavuika die but either it won't be in the typical way or she will return in another form like Furina. Given how she's playable, Hoyo will find the loophole. But yeah, Mavuika will have to pay a heavy price. And it appears Capitano will as well. He still has his "final foe" to face and Ronova apparently sent him on his journey. Of course, the price for messing with death your own life, which Mavuika will have to pay. It seems like whatever Capitano is asking of the Lord of Night also will either lead to his own demise or some sort of demise. Either way, both characters are going to be facing a heavy price. I'm really excited to see the final face off with the Abyss and what will become of both Capitano and Mavuika.
The sky being fake caught my eye specifically because the edges of the hole and the void are reminiscent of the power used by the unknown god in the beginning of the game. Could the unknown god reside out in that void? Did she have a hand in creating Teyvat? Is Teyvat even a "real" world or is it something else entirely? So many questions. I look forward to getting answers and I love the small detail of the hole being covered by smoke. it would cause mass hysteria if one moment, you were fighting for your very home and then another bombshell about the sky being fake is thrown at you.
My only major nitpick is that the Natlan archon quest is almost beat for beat Fontaine's with some exceptions of course.
You got:
big existential, life threatening event that has been steadily building up for years and years
a Fatui harbinger who offers aid because they got their own stakes in this (said Harbinger is also Khaenri'ahn)
the archon has to die because they used powers that are kinda taboo
there are minor incidents prior to the actual existential event
said event has been known about by the archon for hundreds of years and preparations have been made
the day is saved by the archon (or dragon) flying up into the sky and using their awesome power to save everyone
supporting characters die protecting others (Silver and Melus you were the real ones)
The archon quest is still fantastic, but the overall formula was very similar. (it was also weird to not hear Kinich or Kachina but I get the reason).
Anyways, what did you guys think and are you excited for the next chapter???
Kinich x Reader
Where Kinich breaks up with you before going to War, but you make him listen to you
(Oh, wow. I got excited writing this. 0.9k words, it's longer than usual! Although I liked the result, I think it could have been a little more angsty :( I dedicate it to 💗, who asked me for it in a request. I hope you liked it, I hope you'll write to me again sharing your opinion <3)
Twilight covered Natlan in a blanket of red and orange hues, a cruel irony for Kinich, who felt the heat of the fire and the weight of duty burning in his chest, almost to the point of burning him. He had spent his entire life preparing for this war, for the battle against the Abyss, but he never thought that facing danger would mean giving up what he valued most in his life: you.
The decision had been clear when the clan elders made it. The modern heroes, each a bearer of the Ancient Names, must march to the Night Kingdom, that dimension where the shadows of the Abyss were stronger, fiercer, and where Natlan's very nature was at risk. Although the Pyro Archon had returned, the Ode of Resurrection was weakened. This time, there was no guarantee of returning, not even for him, one of the promising warriors.
He waited for you under the shade of a tree, his gaze lost in the landscape that could be the last he would see. When you finally approached, he swallowed hard, his words stuck in his throat. He loved you, and that made it harder, more unbearable.
“Kinich, what’s wrong?” you asked softly, noticing his tense expression. You’d seen Kinich in battle, on hunts, in times of fighting, but you’d never seen him so dejected. He looked as if he carried the weight of the sun itself on his shoulders.
Kinich let out a heavy sigh, unable to look directly at you. He wanted to take you away from the storm, from the uncertainty, protect you from the anguish that an endless wait could bring.
“I’m going to go to war,” he said, his voice rough, his words like stones falling to the ground. There was no time for you to respond before he continued. “And I’m not going to ask you to wait for me. It wouldn’t be fair to you. It’s not safe… If I don’t come back…” It seemed like Kinich was talking to himself at this point. He focused, though, his gaze turning colder as he looked away.
"Nevermind. I'll say it straight. I'm breaking up with you."
Your silence was a blow. You knew of the war, you knew the stories of warriors lost in the Night Kingdom, trapped by the Abyss, waiting without a glimmer of hope. But the Kinich you knew was not someone who gave up so easily.
“Do you think you can decide that for me?” you asked, intense sadness coloring your words. “I don’t want you to disappear like a shadow in history, Kinich! Not after everything we’ve been through together!”
He pulled away slightly, his eyes staring at the ground, as he struggled to put into words the fear that tormented him.
“I don’t want you to suffer waiting for something that might not happen, do you understand?” he said in a whisper. There was an echo of vulnerability in his words that was rare for him, someone who had always faced adversity with his head held high. But this time it was different. This time, fear was a shadow he couldn’t chase away.
You hesitated only a moment before taking a step towards him, raising a hand to touch his face, forcing him to look at you. His gaze was a storm of emotions; fear, love, guilt, and something deeper, darker.
“Listen to me, Kinich,” you said, your voice firm even though your hands trembled slightly. “Natlan has survived because of warriors like you, but also because of those left behind, those who remember. Don’t ask me to forget you, or ask me to prepare to lose you without even trying. If you decide to leave, you will do so with the promise that I will do everything in my power so that, whatever happens, your Name will never be forgotten.”
Kinich closed his eyes, feeling the weight of your words. It was a promise and, at the same time, a plea. For a moment, he imagined what it would be like to let you go, to erase the trace of shared memories and think of you only as a distant figure, a dream he had given up on. And that thought tore at him.
“Why can’t you let me do this?” he asked in a low, almost desperate tone. It wasn’t an accusation, but a confession of his helplessness.
“Because…” Your voice broke, and you took a deep breath before continuing. “Because I love you, Kinich. Because this isn’t just a war; this is our life, and if I lose you in the Night Kingdom, then I will lose a part of me as well. If you fall, you will fall knowing that someone here will remember you. I don’t want a life without you, even if it means waiting, even if it means risking it.”
Those words finally broke through Kinich’s defenses. He felt the resolve he had built crumble, and he hugged you, a gesture that contained all the fragility he had tried to hide. The weight of the war, of his responsibilities, vanished for a moment as he felt your closeness, as he absorbed the comfort you offered, even if it was only temporary.
“Promise me that if I come back, there will be no regrets,” he murmured, searching for some certainty amidst the uncertainty.
You stroked his hair gently, whispering your words with a devotion that gave him the strength he needed.
“I promise you, Kinich.”
Discussing the Fatui and the "war"
Disclaimer: Extremely long, badly put thoughts because I'm not sure how to word this
The more I think about it, the more questions I ask about the Fatui, their strengths, their ideals, and their leaders.
In the Capitano animated short that we just got, they just reinforced that only people of Natlan were being supported by the Night Kingdom during the war. Even those without Ancient Names were fully revitalised.
On the other hand, the Fatui didn't even have a single advantage- neither during the fight, nor after. And yet, under The Captain, they were willing to give their lives. The Captain's underlings fully supported, acknowledged and admired their Harbinger. They all were willing to give their lives for Natlan's cause.
After the archon quest, my friend asked "But why did the Tsaritsa just allow The Captain to abandon the final gnosis and fight for Natlan instead? How did The Captain get the right to drop the Tsaritsa's goals for another nation's?"
Is that how the Tsaritsa shows her love for her people? "She's a god with no love left for her people." And yet she's supposed to be the god symbolising love, like how the anemo archon symbolises freedom, electro archon symbolises eternity and so on. Maybe she's no longer a gentle god, but one that is only marching towards her goal? And the only way she shows "love" is by respecting the Harbingers' individual morales?
Mavuika said that the Tsaritsa won't give up, another Harbinger is probably on their way for the gnosis. The story of Natlan is not yet over, only Natlan's war is.
Another war is coming.
Or rather, it has "already begun".
The Tsaritsa, the Abyss, are they both after the "throne in the sky"? The one that Vennessa ascended to?
Actually wait, Varka wasn't the only one forgotten during Natlan... Vennessa was too. Isn't she originally from Natlan, a child of "lady Murata, the Lady of Fire"?
But I digress, else I'll end up talking about Mondstadt, especially Venti if I start now.
Back to the Fatui...
How are soldiers appointed to their Harbingers? If they're appointed randomly, wouldn't some of them feel out of place if their ideals don't match their leader's? And if they get to choose, then how many would willingly choose each Harbinger as their leader?
There's Childe, the battle freak but with a strong morale when it comes to those he cares about (and the traveller has been added to that list too, so we know that Childe is likely to support us when we confront the other Harbingers).
There's The Captain, a man "worthy of respect" (Arlecchino) and with a great sense of justice.
There's The Doctor, a twisted scholar from the Akademiya. His "parts" live everywhere- in the past, present and the future.
There's The Knave, who raises orphans who are to join the Fatui when they're older. Does she receive recruits from outside the House of the Hearth as well? She's probably one of the few (if not the only) Harbingers to have members from outside Snezhnaya, due to her adopting children from all over Teyvat.
And so on and so forth...
Each Harbinger's ideals are respected by the cryo archon. All of them pursue their own goals, while also assisting in the Tsaritsa's grand scheme.
The Fatui members are either the most cunning, the cruellest, heatless being you'll meet, or the most determined, steadfast people you'll encounter.
Katarina, Victor, Lyudochka...
Hell even Lyney, Lynette, Freminet, and the other members of the Hearth that we met during Arlecchino's quest, the members that were allowed to leave the House of the Hearth by "dying".
Just what kind of organisation is the Fatui? How much more complicated are the relations within them? They clearly don't trust each other, so how will we trust anyone when we get to Snezhnaya? "A conflict with the Fatui is unavoidable the moment you step foot into Snezhnaya." We've both fought with (Natlan) and against the Fatui (Inazuma). We helped the Fatui in the Chasm, we helped Viktor in Mondstadt, but had The Fair Lady killed after a duel.
Will we, perchance, get to meet the Fontaine siblings + Arlecchino + Childe in Snezhnaya? Will The Captain's subordinates be on our side?
And what happened to The Balladeer's subordinates when he was erased from Irminsul? Were they randomly placed under various other Harbingers? How will they explain the absence of the 6th Harbinger?
So many questions... 😮💨
