have I somehow ruined myself for perfectly average movies? I watched both Robots (2023) and The Deer King (2021) and both of them were fine---Deer King was better, but suffered from trying to jam too much into a single film; Robots should have been more black-humored, delighting in its lazy sociopaths and their vaguely squalid world. But that's it, that's all they were---fine. Just fine.

Does this mean I have to watch exclusively Films now? I can't get into a movie unless it's black and white, or two hours of characters speaking sideways and having neuroses at each other?

random question (and apologies if it's been asked before/can be found): how many languages does 7-11 know, and to what degree?

If you ask him how many he speaks fluently, he’ll honestly say just one: English.

But if it’s how many he knows, like, enough to get by (ask for directions or the toilet lol) or only understand but can’t speak? Just a few.

Know only basic phrases to get by:

Arabic (part of Marines Spec Ops training) and Japanese (he took it in high school)

Can only understand but not speak:

Tagalog/ilocano (bis Filipina mom spoke to him in both english and a mix of both tagalog/ilocano but it never stuck 💀💀 and after her death, there was no one else in his life who spoke any filipino dialects)

A cosplayer I'm friends with on Instagram often vagueposts on his stories with complaints about other fans cosplaying Meenah or Damara on account of it being racist to do so. (None of the cosplayers in question had done any... questionable makeup choices of any sort, they just had the usual light gray body paint approximating canon. The friend in question is white himself, as am I.) Do you think there's a genuine issue with people cosplaying characters like those ones?

I'm genuinely curious on your insights; I came to your blog for this since I find your posts both about the alpha trolls and the racism especially with them, but also in Homestuck overall, to be very well written. This is a loaded question, which I am getting the sense is... A controversial one, and I do not feel equipped to give a solid yes or no answer on this as someone who is not a cosplayer and doesn't really know anything about the scene.

However, I do have to ask... Why specifically Damara and Meenah? There's an infinite amount of characters who are white, even within Homestuck. Why specifically dress up as characters who are without a single doubt not white? That is tacky to me. This isn't even an anime situation where it doesn't really matter until people start pinning their eyes back, Meenah and Damara - Damara especially - are depicted in a way that is straight up racist, and also some of the few characters in the comic who are just straight up not white. Like, you have other options. Most of the characters in the comic are white. Why them?

in the process of a recent tumblr post sending me down a mild rabbit hole of trying to figure out if where I'm from counts as Appalachia (it does not, tho it is extremely close to the portions of pennsylvania that count) I have discovered several things

specifically, the weird way folks where i live now pronounce Appalachian is apparently not just an around here thing, but is a thing in almost all of the more northern states. this is causing me some pain because they all pronounce it weird (and it's Wrong). All Of Them. I Do Not Like It. so, to the few people who will see this, I must ask:

if you do not regularly pronounce this word, which is probably the case for almost anyone who would see this, sound out the word and or just go with what feels right to you. I am Curious.
