Reykjavik, July 20-21th
Since it was raining on the 19th and we sadly didn't go out, but it became a little day off which was pretty nice. Yesterday we did decide to visit the national museum of Iceland and make the most out of our last day! We took so many pictures, I might have to reblog my own post! 😅
The things that was in the museum is very impressive I'll have to admit! They had a lot of things on display like jewelry and items of what they had found in graves. They even had skeletons of humans and a horse but I didn't take a picture, it was cool but I wasn't comfortable sharing that.
Afterwards we took a stroll through the local park, which was huge and very beautiful then we ate at loki cafe again! I even left a little message saying I was there, so try to find me if you ever visit ;3
I'm kinda sad we are leaving today technically but I've had lots of fun! I'd definitely visit again just to enjoy the culture all over again to be honest. <33

Happy Icelandic day of independence🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸 fuck you denmark♡
Fun iceland facts of the day:
The 17th of June is celebrated as our day of independence but we actually fully officially got independence on the 1st of december
We celebrate the 17th because its the birthday of the guy who was out in Denmark in 1944 and was like "hey guys, hear me out, what if you let iceland rule itself? We've kinda been asking for years and you're kinda under nazi occupation right now so they're doing their own stuff over there anyway cause you can't really intervene cause of the. The nazis."
I dont know why we celebrate his birthday. He didn't even fucking live here, he moved to Denmark when he was young and never came back, false idol that he is (Jón Sigurðsson)
Iceland was originally under Norway (thats where we came from, mostly) but then Denmark claimed us in the divorce (they invaded Norway in 1537 and turned it into a Danish puppet-state)
Iceland is bigger than Denmark in land mass but wayyy smaller in population and no one is happy about this
Why is our population so low? Why do we all live around the shores and not in the middle of the land? Well, you see, like 90% of this country is uninhabitable. It is just mountains and glaciers and ravines and black sands and fields of nothing out there. Only 2% of the country is forested, and most of it is imported
We do not have an army. And yet we have been in a war. The Cod Wars. A small Icelandic fishing boat rammed itself into the side of a huge British ship fishing in our waters. The brits got really offended because the giant hole we made in their ship knocked over a picture of the queen. America had to intervene so we wouldn't keep sending our tiny but fast fishing boats headfirst into British ships fit for war. In our defense, our pride and our fish were on the line
Pretty much all Icelanders are at least bilingual, tho they try to make us trilingual but very few of us actually retain any of the Danish they try to teach us at school, Icelandic preteens notoriously hate Danish (or maybe that was just me)
We make ourselves out to have descended from great vikings, its basically our whole brand besides puffins who aren't even our national bird we just love to show off our puffin population, but we actually weren't really vikings, we came mostly from farmers
Half of the country is located in the American continent, and the other half is in Europe, there's a mall out in the country that has a line down the middle of it because that's where the line between the continents splits and u can walk between America and Europe
We had the worlds first female president (Vigdís Finnbogadóttir🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸)
Despite our low crime rates, we have an unusually high crime fiction writer rate
I'll leave the fun facts about the phallus museum and the likes for next time, gleðilegan 17. júní góða fólk!
#hæ hó og jibbí jeij og jibbí jeij það er kominn sautjándi júníííííí#i havent been able to go out and have fun today cause ive been working so this is how i get the patriotic urge to celebrate out of my syste#i have way more fun facts i love just saying shit about my country its fun#iceland isnt just beautiful nature. its weird culture as well#ísland#iceland#17th of june#17 júní#icelandic

As modern science and better archeology methods reexamine historical sites more of women’s history will emerge
by Sarah Durn September 27, 2021

In Atlas Obscura’s Q&A series She Was There, we talk to female scholars who are writing long-forgotten women back into history.
In 1871 on the sleepy island of Birka, Sweden, Hjalmar Stolpe, a Swedish entomologist turned archaeologist, discovered the lavish grave of a Viking warrior. Around the seated body were the remains of two sacrificed horses, as well as a double-edged sword, a scramasax (a long, thin knife), a bow, a shield, and a spear—every weapon known to the Viking world. It was an astonishing find, especially since Viking warrior graves rarely contain more than three weapons. There was also a full set of hnefatafl, the board game often known as Viking chess, which indicates the strategic thinking and authority of a war leader. A thousand years ago, the site would’ve abutted the Warrior’s Hall, where a garrison lived to protect the bustling Viking town of Birka. The weapons, game pieces, location: Everything told scholars that the man buried in what is known as grave Bj 581 was a prominent, well-respected Viking warrior. No one was really prepared when DNA tests were conducted in 2017 and a new story began to emerge. This was a prominent warrior, all right, but the occupant of Bj 581 wasn’t a man. She was a woman.
Viking historian Nancy Marie Brown’s new book, The Real Valkyrie: The Hidden History of Viking Warrior Women, explores what life might have been like for the warrior woman of Bj 581.
Using more evidence from the recent tests conducted on the remains, Brown traces her journey from Norway to the British Isles to Kiev then, finally, to Birka. Brown imagines the unnamed warrior meeting other prominent Viking women, such as Gunnhild, Mother of Kings, or Queen Olga, ruler of the Rus Vikings in Kiev. She also explores the Viking sagas and contemporary sources with a new lens.
How did you initially get interested in Vikings—and female Vikings in particular?
When I went to college, I actually wanted to study fantasy writing and, you know, learn to write like Tolkien. I learned very quickly that that was not appropriate for an English major in the 1970s, so I decided to study what Tolkien studied, and he was a professor at Oxford University, teaching Old English and Old Norse. So I started reading all of the Icelandic sagas that I could find in translation. And when I ran out of the English versions, I learned Old Norse so that I could read the rest of them.
One of the things I liked about [the sagas] the most was that they had really interesting women characters. There’s a queen in Norway who appears in about 11 sagas, Queen Gunnhild, Mother of Kings. She led armies. She devised war strategy. And then I was looking at the valkyries and the shieldmaids and thinking, you know, these are really interesting people that have always been considered to be mythological.
So when I learned in 2017 that one of the most famous Viking warrior burials turned out to be the burial of a woman, that just absolutely dazzled my imagination.
Is this the first confirmed grave of a female warrior that we have?
This is the one that has the best proof. There are one or two others that have since been DNA tested and proven to be female. But in each of these cases, it’s hard to say if the person in the grave, whether male or female, actually was a warrior, or if the object that we are interpreting as a weapon was used for hunting or for some other purpose.
In this case, it’s every Viking weapon known to history. So it’s such a clear result. And the DNA was so completely female.
When Stolpe discovered the Viking gravesite Bj 581 in 1887, he assumed the remains were of a man. That assumption was shown to be wrong 140 years later. Rapp Halour / Alamy Stock Photo
What do we know about the life of the Viking warrior woman in Bj 581?
In 2017, by testing her bones and her teeth, [scholars] could say she was between 30 and 40 years old when she died. They could also tell that she ate well all of her life. So she came from a rich family or maybe even a royal one. She was also quite tall, about 5’7”. By the minerals in her inner teeth, [scholars can determine] she may have come from southern Sweden or Norway, and also that she went west maybe as far as the British Isles before her molars finished forming. She didn’t arrive in Birka until she was 16.
We also have her weapons and a little bit of clothing that were found in the grave. And these link her to what is known as the Vikings’ East Way, which was the trade route from Sweden to the Silk Road.
We can link, through the artifacts and through the bones, that she could have traveled from as far west as Dublin to as far east as at least Kiev in the 30 to 40 years of her life.
How do we know that there were Viking warrior women?
They are mentioned many, many, many times in the literature. In most cases, they have been dismissed as mythological because, of course, we know warriors were men. But we don’t know that. That is an assumption that is based on traditional Victorian ideas that because women are mothers, they’re nurturing, they’re peacemakers, and they don’t fight.
That’s not historically true. Women have always fought. And they appear in most cultures until the 1800s, when Viking studies and archaeology pretty much started. So we sort of have this problem of bias in our earliest textbooks.
But now we have actual scientific proof of one warrior woman in the Viking Age. And as the scientists who did the study say they would be very surprised if she was the only one.
This small female Viking warrior figurine discovered in Harby, Denmark, has been interpreted as a mythological valkyrie. John Lee / National Museum of Denmark
There’s this assumption that the warrior men of myth must have been based on real people, but it’s not the same for the mythical warrior women. Why is that?
It’s just an assumption based on what people think women are like. Most of the material we have from the Middle Ages was written by men, and most of the material we have until the 1950s was written by men, and women are slowly making their way into the field of Viking scholarship. But many of them are still working under the assumptions that they were taught.
I noticed when I went back and reread some of the sagas in Icelandic that there wasn’t this clear distinction between the warrior women being mythological and the warrior men being human. When you actually look at the old Norse text, there’s a lot of words that have been translated as “men” that actually mean “people,” but it’s always been translated as “men” because it’s a warrior situation.
If you’re translating, you have to make decisions and sometimes your decisions have repercussions that you don’t expect, like writing women out of the history.
By the time Hjalmar Stolpe excavated Bj 581, he had become adept at recognizing where graves could be found in the hummocky Birka landscape. WS Collection / Alamy Stock Photo
Is it possible for historians to remove all of those biases?
No, I don’t think it is. I think we all are looking through our own lenses. But we have to revisit those sources every generation to see past biases. So when you have layer after layer after layer of removing biases, you may get closer to the truth.
What most surprised you in the course of researching your book?
One of the controversies right now in Viking studies is should we really be talking about men and women at all? Maybe there were all kinds of different genders. We don’t know if there were more than two genders in the Viking age. Maybe it was a spectrum.
If you look at this one group of sagas called the Sagas of Ancient Times that are often overlooked because they have all these fabulous creatures in them, like dragons and warrior women. It’s really interesting [because] these girls grow up wanting to be warriors. They’re constantly disobeying and trying to run off and join Viking bands. But when they do run off and join the Viking band, or, in another case, become the king of a town, they insist on being called by a male name and use male pronouns.
So it was very shocking to me to go back and read it in the original and say, “Wow, all this richness was lost in the translation.”

what do you think the various countries would do for a day job in a known-to-the-public au?
ohh this is an interesting one. i'm thinking that nations probably don't have to get jobs since they get paid from their governments, but some of them might work for other reasons
- japan would probably love working at a museum and giving tours around things he personally saw being made/built and talking ab stuff he actually lived through. though he'd hate reporters trying to get him on tv and stuff
- technically not a job but iceland deciding to try high school just for the hell of it and regretting it less than an hour in. norway still teases him ab it lmao
- as much of a meme as it is i can lowk see poland being a crossdressing twitch streamer
- romania lowk gives off tv show host vibes. old ladies would probably call to ask him if he's unironically a vampire while he's trying to give away pots and pans
- veneziano would definitely sell his paintings in art galleries
- unlike iceland, i feel like sealand would thrive in middle school lol. he'd be a class clown
- lithuania looks like he'd operate a flower shop
- greece definitely volunteers at animal shelters and ends up adopting way too many cats for himself
- america would be a discord mod. his kittens probably wouldn't know his identity but he'd get doxxed sooner or later tbh
- england writes salty book reviews and got a huge following of middle aged women
- spain and turkey i can see unironically just being servers at some tiny café in their neighborhood

Portraits of Icelandic People by Daniel Bruun
The Danish National Museum has a large collection of photographs, many of which are available online. Since Iceland was a part of the Danish Kingdom until 1944, the museum contains a fascinating collection of old photographs taken in Iceland around the turn of the century 1900. Among these collections is the Daniel Bruun collection.

VACATION DESTINATIONS WITH THE SNK MEN
starring: Eren, Jean, Armin, Connie, Porco, Reiner, Levi, Zeke
rating: mostly sfw!
notes: Part 2 of my travel series! First of all, I don’t think any of the guys would ever turn down a trip with you to go anywhere!!! These are just some of the specific destinations that I think they’d love to take you to and what I think they’d like to do with you(: and these are places that I’ve been, unfortunately I haven’t been to any African or Asian countries but I didn’t want to stereotype anything about these places. Feel free to share your ideas!! What’s your dream vacation? What other travel scenarios would you like to see? Let me know, send me an ask!
Part 1
EREN:
- Okay it’s so cheesy but please stick with me okay
- The iconic “freedom” panel, with his arms outstretched? That’s him whenever you guys go to hike or explore a national park
- I don’t think he’d be one of those like intense backpackers by any means? The man still needs regular access to a shower
- But he loves as much of the untouched nature as he can get!
- So I think a roadtrip would really suit him! I think there’s something super intimate about road-tripping that you don’t get on other trips
- Imagine you fly to a place like Reykjavik (Iceland), rent a car and then explore the ring road together
- Volcanoes! Canyons! Glaciers! Waterfalls! What’s not to love, he loves the spontaneity of it, and there are times when he feels like you two are the only ones on earth :’)
- One or two nights in the city, they have a nice nightlife scene if you’re into it, otherwise just exploring cafes and cool areas around the bay
- Then you pick up the rental and hardly see anyone else again!! Lol it can be super isolated there
- The drive around can be super exciting though?? When I went we’d see a couple waterfalls every hour in some regions! He’d be impressed with each one :)
- On less-exciting legs of the trip you guys can have really open and vulnerable conversations too? Just about life and stuff
- Car sex car sex car sex
JEAN:
- I also think he would have a hard time with camping, no access to a shower or regular toilet stresses him out
- But I think he’d really love hikes and national parks? Just no camping trips (yet..)
- I think Hawaii would be a fun place he’d love to take you
- I’m thinking Oahu at least? That’s the most touristy of them all hahah. But I’d imagine that you go once and he begins to fall in love with the culture and nature
- And then he suggests you explode some of the other islands and see the more natural side of Hawaii!
- Maybe you guys book a hotel that has a balcony, and by halfway through the trip you’re out there with blankets sleeping in the moonlight
- You don’t get much sleeping done though 😉😉😉
- I think Jean needs a vacation where he can get back into nature and forget about work, and Hawaii is a great place for that
- Would probably love going to a Luau with you, a more authentic one that actually supports Hawaii natives yk?
- Is constantly putting flowers behind your ear bc the boy’s a ROMANTIC!!
- Loves markets and street fairs but is a bit gullible? He’ll come up to you with a bunch of baked goods and say “that vendor is so nice! His mom baked all of these treats fresh this morning and gave me a good deal on them!” And then you guys will walk past a different vendor with THE EXACT SAME BAKED GOODS and the same sign that says “baked by mom, fresh this morning!” and he’d be like “huh, maybe their moms are friends or something”
ARMIN:
- He’d take you to see the ocean (duh)
- But I think he would also love to take you to small towns in Europe??
- He might need some convincing to go to a place like NYC or Las Vegas
- Much prefers towns like Cambridge? So many free museums and archeological collections (I also love this town lol)
- Would be still open to going to a big city with you! I mean the amount of history in New York is insane!
- But the crowds would overwhelm him :(
- Maybe could handle a weekend there on the way to another destination?
- Or at least will need a lot of time to recoup in between the nightlife and other big tourist activities
- Honestly if you wanted to go to a big city he’d be open to go, and he’d let you explore the city while he finds a good book or explores at his own pace
- Not alone! Like imagine you went with a group of friends and Armin yk? He’d be too worried about something happening to you if you were out there!!
- Yeah Armin would probably be a touch paranoid about being kidnapped or pickpocketed
- Like you could be visiting your hometown and your sibling comes to pick you up and he’s like “are you sure that’s them???? Can they get out of the car so we know it’s them?? What if it’s a trafficker??? You know I saw this news report about…”
CONNIE:
- Okay so first I think he’d have fun with weekend camping trips? He might dabble with a longer backpacking trip, but I think his regular getaways would be camping trips with you and maybe a blunt or something 👀
- But as far as like traveling for a vacation, I think he’d actually be a lot of fun at Disney or Universal Studios
- He’ll make fun of the cringey and annoying Disney adults (the ones who would like push a kid in order to get ahead in line for a ride yk? Nothing wrong with liking Disney at any age!)
- But otherwise he’s super happy to see everyone (including the two of you) get to let loose and be kids again!
- I also feel like he’d have the best luck at finding the Disney character people?? Like you are always first in line to take pics
- He’d probably want to take pictures with the Disney characters but would always insist on doing some dumb pose? He’s just planking in front of you and Mickey lol
- He also likes Disney because he can make up the most outrageous backstories for you both when talking to cast members (he tells Peter Pan about how he rescued you from bandits, Woody that he is a toy, etc)
- Like at airports, children are drawn to him so he’s always making them laugh in lines too? Not in a weird way but he just sees them looking at him and he’ll start doing an impression (once the parents give him the lil nod of approval)
- He’ll talk to children like they’re adults about their favorite Disney things too?
- “I totally agree, Rebecca. Anna was just trying to do what’s best for her sister Elsa” (he’d just be great with kids all around)
- Would probably cry at the Avengers Campus??? Just super amazed by Spider-Man and the others
- Also I think he’d love the drinking around the world “challenge” at Epcot. You don’t want to get too drunk at a family theme park but he likes trying all the fun drinks and learning a bit about the cultures of different places!
PORCO:
- I think Italy or New York would be a lot of fun with Porco! Just any big city really
- Maybe Italy specifically just because of the weather? Idk when I think of them modern AU I end up thinking of Chicago because I’m from that area, so a hot area like Italy would be perfect
- The man tans like a god probably? Like five minutes in the sun and he has the perfect golden tan
- Also he’s being conscious about suncare and will put sunscreen on you! Buys two of the biggest goofiest tourist hats to shield your faces from the sun
- Probably has an interest in the fashion scene at least a little bit? Has one of those trench coat/duster jacket things when he’s in New York (secretly you think he’s doing a model-strut whenever you two are walking around lol)
- Likes to people watch in a cafe in Italy while discussing clothes you like
- Will buy you clothes after the trip and surprise you (can’t buy it during the trip bc of your suitcases!! But he jots down the things you like or will order it in store to be shipped back home)
- Also would love the food in Italy!! Insists on eating out like every single night because everything is just so good!
- But it’s also super rich so one day you both just lie in bed, too tired to get up. After that you guys take it easy
- Will judge you for wanting a simple slice of Sbarro pizza (“Really? We’re in NYC babe there’s literally every type of food imaginable? And you want Sbarro???”) but one night you wake up in the middle of the night you wake up and he’s curled over the sink with a Sbarro slice?? Hello??
- But he got you one too so it’s okay xoxo
- I think he’d like to get away in a city because the intensity and the energy of a city is the perfect pick me up when he’s feeling weighed down from work (plus the man’s a model he belongs in an Italian fashion show let’s be honest)
REINER:
- I feel like he’d love road trips and camping! For some reason I think he’d be nervous to fly across the world to Europe?? Down for a flight within the US though (I always imagine them to be American but that’s just my hc!)
- Places like Arizona or Utah, even Yellowstone would be perfect!
- He probably burns really easily, so y’all get the biggest floppiest sun hats and make your way through Bryce Canyon or the Grand Canyon!
- Gets all sweaty but pulls you close as you both admire the scene before you. “(Y/N), look at how beautiful it is!”
- Reiner is so hard on himself, and I think that’s still apparent as he pushes himself to rush through the trails
- You need to make him wait and pace himself before he hurts himself! Drink water you fool!
- But imagine after getting deep into Yellowstone, you find a beautifully tranquil scene and you FINALLY see Reiner’s shoulders start to droop
- He can finally let himself relax, surrounded by the beauty of the natural world (and you), and his problems literally melt away
- At Bryce Canyon they had a really nice presentation at one of the parks about light pollution
- If you guys saw something like that Reiner could be moved to tears
- When you drive back to your hotel at night, you both pull over to admire the stars
- They shine brighter than they ever have back home, where the city lights obscures them. Neither of you say anything, just staring up at them in awe and wonder. Reiner reaches out for your hand and squeezes it in his own(‘:
LEVI:
- I wanted to say that he’d like Japan (and he would!) because he’d love the peace of the temples and shrines
- But I think that’s too predictable!! Plus he’s Japanese so he’d probably already be taking you there occasionally to explore!
- I think that he’s actually get a lot out of a trip to London??
- He’d probably have a lot of fun exploring the churches? The art and the history and the tranquility
- I don’t think he’d be running to see any of the royal palaces or big tourist grabs like the London Eye or Big Ben, but St Paul’s Cathedral?? He’d love it there
- And he’d love the parks, they’re spacious and it’s a nice place to people watch
- London seems very private?? Idk I’m here now and everyone seems to mind their business hahah. Polite? I bet he’d really appreciate that
- I also think he’d secretly really enjoy football?? You won’t see him jumping for joy at pubs with any of the British men
- But if a team that he likes is in an intense game, he’s holding his fork in a first so tight it could break in half
- I don’t think Levi would ever be able to fully stop thinking about his work or get away from his regular responsibilities, but he’s really inspired by the British Museum and the British Library
- After you two explore those types of areas he might pull you towards on of the courtyards outside of those areas (they both have lovely green patches outside!) and alternate between writing (I’ve always imagined him as an editor or columnist of sorts… critic maybe?) and talking to you(:
- Also let’s be real, he goes for the tea
ZEKE:
- Honestly I think Amsterdam would be fitting for Zeke
- Amsterdam would be fun with Zeke because the whole city has a laid back vibe
- Zeke gives off a weird mix of constant ease but also stress? Maybe it’s the trauma? Who knows! But the man needs to relax
- And Amsterdam is super chill! There’s a lot of historical memorials and museums to keep you both occupied and the canals are beautiful
- Plus there’s marijuana everywhere omg
- Honestly he’d have a lot of fun in the red light district? Super polite and respectful about everything but the man’s a freak let’s be real (he’s leaving the red light district the SECOND you’re uncomfortable btw he’s super understanding)
- There are really cool markets all over? The flower markets are my favorite! A whole street full of flower bulbs and plants to buy!
- He’d probably suggest you buy some, and when you point out that they might not travel there he’d suggest you just move there together
- Idk maybe it’s the weed, but I think vacations with Zeke would just make him weak in the knees, falling in love with you all over again
- I feel like he’s pretty depressed/apathetic to the world (sorry king 💀), but seeing your eyes full of awe as you explore the large tulip fields makes his heart ache with love for you
- Big softy underneath the trauma xoxo
- Amsterdam would be packed with a large variety of experiences and Zeke would start the trip passively going along with whatever you want, but by the end he’d be dragging you around trying to see everything the world has to offer!
Thanks so much for reading! Hope you enjoyed! Please leave an ask if you want to see any other specific scenarios! I’m working on one about college majors next so stay tuned!

so lets get this straight: so first off i imagine the nations are like 96% "stereotypes of ttheir nation" (e.g. the more people think or are americans that digest too many burgers, to more likely it is America himself eats attrocious amounts of burgers. The more people say Germans are swrious, the more likely Germany is a serious dude. etc. the normal stuff we all know off.)
but the other 4%? That's the nation's "person" side, seperate from their "nation" side. It varies a little depending on country ofc but that's prob the average.
E.g. hungary and austria "divorced" but they clearly care for each other. They can't be together for literal reasons but the non-nations parts of them wouldn't mind at all.
prussia is knwon aa a great warrior so that's what he is. But his non-nation half has self doubts and the need to keep an eye on his family. Like llease, Prussia how did you know what Austria wears and eats??? I get a feeling this wasn't in the mdidle of WW2, probabky right before if i had to geuss. Austria wouldn't have moved in with Germany and by exention aprussia yet....and he waa following the dude....prussia is an overprotective helicopter parent of an older brother, canon.
France and his distaste for technology. Exhibit A: french music was consistantly the one doing the weird innovative stuff in my music history class when it wasn't Schoenberg. Besides that, i could see France not liking tech as much due to being literally a thousand. Heck, i'm pretty sure half the old nations are a bit iffy about it just because "wdym now i can't just didappear lff the grid without anyone getting cocnerned and i need passports and phones and shit?" Except maybe Denmark, China, and Japan. Those three are 100% ipad kids in old men bodies.
iceland oozes gen z. enough said. The man might be obsessed with finding tourists and his northern lights and his weird museums but the thing where his beothers are throwing plates at his door and he's like "hell noooo"? The one where he's going off to make friends over ding-dong soup with the ASEAN dudes? That's allll Iceland, the person. Far as i could find there os no iceland-malaysia embassy and closest it got was relations with indonesia. (I highly recommend checking out the iceland-diplomatics-relations wiki page. There's a very interesting factoid under the list for Asian countries i think many of you will be interested in.....but per my own doctrine, this is a Hetalia hc post and not a Politica post.)
america and his animals. That goes for estonia too. Americans are no adopting whales and aliens as pets (well maybe the donate-and-save-an-animal program but we aint keep them in the house) and i doubt estonians keep talking mochi they found randomly in a disty corner. I'm fairly certain most Eatonians don't hell "latviaaaaaa!!!!" When things go wrong either.
austria getting lost is just a him thing. That's not normal for austrians, music part is very much influenced by his people. His preference to chopin might be him though since Salzburg is in Austria and that's Mozartland. Also, Chopin is Polish.
I won't even start with the clusterfuck called Russia but Japan daydreaming about Switzerland? Yeah that was Japan's non-nation side getting really weird. Japan understandably was just as confused himswlf considering for the most part he has no prpblems being a "stereotypical japanese dude".
need i mention Italy, who has a huge crush on Germany m/hre despite him literally changing in basically everything (because that's the natire of a nation), and just likes the guy as long as he exists?
I also choose to believe Sweden can grow a beard if he really followed the stereotype (no seriously. Why os the image i get of Sweedish guys just dudes with beards? Someone has a really nice sweden somewhere ln this site where he has a lovely beard and it just makes him look like the embodiment of sweeden, no questions asked). But he doesn't like it, which fair o imagine beards aren't fun when stiff gets stick in them or whatever, so he just shaves or leaves some stubble. Def not cuz Asians and beards is just not really a thing so Hima prob just didn't draw beyond the stubble.
Latvia being a secret brainiac that plays mental chess against himself while doing other stuff, all hidden under an alcoholic who can't get rid of his past. Pretty sure his blabbermouth thie is his own personality. I did see somewhere that there's a steretype that Latvians have six toes and i kinda wanna just believe Latvia got that one too cuz why not!
theres others im sure but yeah. Those are the knes i came up with and im gonna sleep now bye lmk what you think

[IMAGE ID: a fan-made magazine cover featuring Belgium from the anime Hetalia over a blue background. She has a blue dress, black tights, and a bow of the Belgian flag. She is smiling and appears to be jumping.
In the upper left corner is the title, "Nations Weekly," and beside that is the words "Scandal and chocolate." Below that is "Does miss Belgium have a secret?" followed by "Plus: Romania's tips on avoiding the undead & inside Iceland's pallological museum." Behind Beligum and the text is orange paint splatter. /END ID]
Some of y'all thought it would be a good idea to make my own Nations Weekly magazine (the one Belgium mentioned being on the cover of). I've never designed for a magazine before, but I think it turned out all right! Who should get a spotlight next?

Aph Northern Ireland headcanons because why not
1. Youngest Kirkland brother no matter what the canon say as England being the "youngest" among them. Northern Ireland was created in 1921 he is a very young country compared with England that was founded in 927 AC, that makes a gap of 994 years of difference between England and North, North is the youngest!!.
Northern Ireland was created because the people, a huge majority wanted to stay in the UK, most of them protestants compared with the amount of catholics most counties in Ireland had and that was created after Ireland went all for it for independence in 1916 (and ignoring the fact counties of Fermanagh and Tyrone had catholic majority and were drawn into the concept of Northern Ireland) and even with the hc of Northern Ireland being the province of Ulster he would still be younger than his brothers
There is no way Northern Ireland as a country could be older than England, Scotland, Wales and even Ireland
2. He knows he can trust his brothers a lot and tell them all the problems he has but he feels like he is being unfair and shouldn't complain about his "problems". He knows his brothers didn't have it easy back then, North doesn't know how is to live just to survive, to go to the forests to get some food, to learn how to fight and use weapons because you need to survive in this world, to be able to manage to get food and clothes to keep warm from the cold.
He was born in a modern world, a world where he has everything his brothers didn't have when they were younger, he lives in a good house, a good bed, has good clothes, has food and can eat more than once per day, a lot of medicines...etc. thats why he, while he appreciates what he had, he feels left out in some way from his brothers, they have lived so much compared with him, they know easily how to survive in this world while he just doesn't so he tends to believe he doesn't deserve anything of this and he has some trouble to open up when he is struggling with something, he feels like his problems aren't that much serious compared with the problems his brothers had and I'm not referring to problems like "let me play videogames" "buy me candy please" no problems from anything related with school if he has some troubles with a teacher or classmates to political problems knowing how much fragile politics are in Northern Ireland.
3. He and teen nations have a group chat where they either complain about their older brothers or play videogames.
4. He and Hong Kong are very close friends same goes with Iceland and South Korea
5. He is really good at drawing and painting, he loves visiting museums and see the art pieces there. He loves going through the streets of Belfast and see the murals and he will always draw something if he has some free time
6. Social media addicted, his post are mostly about the s*it his brothers do which surprisingly has many likes and reviews from other nations. Ireland is happy to see he had left that house a long time ago but North will definitely bring Ireland into this
7. He is into videogames a lot, he will stay until very late at night playing, England has caught him and got angry at him for staying for so long playing and the excuse North use is that he is playing with Hong Kong and South Korea and they are awake now cause if he goes to sleep when he wakes up they will be already sleeping (no)
8. He loves playing Just Dance with Ireland but he gets angry at it cause he always loses agaisnt him. He knows Ireland is a very good dancer but there is no way he can manage to get more stars than him when North maybe knows the whole choreography of the song and Ireland probably is the first time seeing that. If he manages to win Ireland is mostly because Ireland didn't even tried to win and let North win for some time and make him happy
9. He is into Pokemon, he has played every single game, has a collection of cards and can tell you the whole pokedex
10. Besides Pokemon and Just Dance, he loves also League of Legends, Animal Crossing and Mario games specially Mario Kart. He is more a Nintendo fan, he doesn't like PlayStation games at all. Also he loves Minecraft he has plenty of worlds created
11. He likes kpop, South Korea talked about it to him a long time ago and well he got into it mostly because he find funny to learn the choreographies, also Hong Kong and Singapore are into it so the 4 of them will sometimes meet and do some dance covers, Iceland will occasionally join them because he is a closet kpop fan but he doesn't want to admit (and he doesn't want to learn the choreographies).
12. He speaks 3 languages, English, Irish and Ulster-Scots
13. He had tried to learn Irish via Duolingo until he realised he needed Ireland to learn the language
14. During the 6 Nations tournament, given the fact the Irish team is unified with people from the Republic and the North, he will support the Irish team. He indeed becomes more Irish than Ireland during this time.
If there is anyone who loved the most Ireland winning the tournament with a Grand Slam, on St Patrick's Day agaisnt England as the final match in England, that was definitely North
15. He hates History class, he just wants to cry and kick England ass everytime he heards something about history
16. He is into Gaelic football too, he will defend the Ulster teams with his life, specially Armagh and Tyrone which are the most popular currently but he will stay in the middle if that match happens just in case Armagh and Tyrone end arguing
17. He gets along really well with his counties and he between the 4 countries of the UK he is probably the one who is more close to his counties but not only his but the other 3 Ulster counties from the Republic, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal
18. He struggles with anxiety and PTSD, he will sometimes not being able to wake up from bed and just skip school, he has many days where he just doesn't want to talk no matter how good intentions their brothers concerns for him are but they remind him that if he needs to talk about it, they will listen to him. Problem here that many times it's because of his brothers specially England, he knows Wales is the easiest to talk about but he knows Wales supports England way too much so if he talks with someone it would be Scotland or he will call Ireland.
19. Given the fact he is a very young nation, his brothers have talked to him about things he as a nation should have in mind. Starting with humans, they aren't like them, like their people, the brothers know North has many human friends cause after all there aren't too many nations that has the age he has and many of them live in the other side of the world so North will mostly meet his human friends to hang out, go to the cinema, to a park, etc so he is very fond of humans and he is developing his social interactions with them. This is something that is not bad but he needs to remember his friends will grow up while he will stay as a teenager of 17 years old even if it passes 50 years, his friends will grow up, get older, start their lives... and he is afraid of this. He is very concerned the friends he hangs out with nowadays, will forget him in 15-20 years, his friends wouldn't want to be his friend anymore when they became 40 or 50 years old, what kind of grown men of 50 years old is friend with a teenager? yeah they can remember him and North will try to help them if needed but that's something North isn't really that much secure about, at the end of the day again he will left alone, his human friends will dissapear one day, the friends he has made many memories and good times together, friends he met in school and became his classmates, friends from his dance school, friends from his neighbourhood. He wants them to stay like they are now or grow up like them, North feels more human than a nation given the fact many of the things North does as a nation are supervised by England and occasionally by Ireland but there are some things that are hitting him, as a friendly reminder he is not like them, that he is a nation and he is supposed to live for many centuries.
20. Kinda related with the one above, he really means it when he say he feels alone, his brothers have thousand of years behind their backs while he is just a little more than a century old nation and his friends will grow up and he will be stucked in his teenage body. He has many problems with this because he doesn't know how to be alone, he is afraid of being alone, of losing absolutely everyone, he just can't be left alone, yeah he needs his own space but he needs to know that there is someone near him or in the house. He has 4 older brothers, lives with 3 of them and yeah they will keep an eye on him but sometimes he will just feel really bad and sad. He feels like he is just in a limbo, in the middle of somewhere where he can see his brothers and his human friends but if he goes to them, they will get more far, so close but so far. He can't be alone, he can't be left alone, the brothers will always try to make to someone be in home but there are times it's just impossible for them, they will sometimes call Ireland to see if he can come to look up for him or just have a conversation with him through the telephone which sometimes it has worked but he can't avoid to feel like he is a burdern to his brothers that why he will get pretty emotional if he sees his brothers helping him with anything
21. He hates the division his people has but he knows he just wants peace for everyone.
22. He identify as both, Irish and British
23. Name goes by William/Liam Kirkland because he doesn't want to have a name that can cause some trouble to him for being "too Irish" or "too British". He needs a neutral name to evite those problems, Connor is a good name for him but it's an Irish origin name and he doesn't want to have problems with the unionists that identify as British for his nation having an "Irish name".
William would be used by this unionist/British people and Liam being the short version of William and its most commonly used in Ireland (coming from Ulliam) so this way he has "both communities at peace"
24. He is the only brother that doesn't have a proper surname, Wales and Scotland have individual surnames when they weren't part of the UK. The Kirkland in the family its becasue of being part of the UK, which England represents both so England going by the name of Arthur Kirkland and the representative of the UK, Wales, Scotland and North got the Kirkland surname. Ireland had the Kirkland until he got independent but Northern Ireland's case its different.
He can't go for independence unlike Scotland and Wales, given by the Good Friday Agreement signed in 1998 by both the UK and the Irish government and with a big majority support of both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, it is said the agreement reached was that Northern Ireland was part of the United Kingdom, and would remain so until a majority of the people both of Northern Ireland and of the Republic of Ireland wished otherwise.
So Northern Ireland has the Kirkland surname while he is part of the UK until his people wants to join the rest of Ireland, he will get Ireland's surname if Irish unity happens
25. He wants to study something related with technology but he loves biology and psychology a lot as well. He is very concerned about mental health, sex education, bullying, drugs, alcohol, etc
