MORE FUN FACTS ABOUT 1776 BECAUSE WHY NOT:
-William Duell stayed with the show the whole time it was on broadway and did not miss a single performance.
-previews were supposed to last longer on broadway, but it was cut short because on March 14th 1969 (55 years ago today) Howard Da Silva had a heart attack. The guys got him out of the theater and they revived him, they wanted to immediately take him to the hospital but he refused, and said he wanted to open the show, and then they could do with him as they pleased. So he opened the show with everybody, and then immediately as the curtain came down, an ambulance was waiting for him outside the theater and he got in, and he had surgery that night and was out of the show for MONTHS. Thank god they still had Rex Everhart from when the show was out of town because otherwise they would have been FUCKED. The cast did not have a party because of this whole incident. But unfortunately, the main three, Bill Daniels, Ken Howard and Howard da Silva, only did 5 shows together on broadway, Ken Howard would leave 3 months into the show, and the next time they’d all work together would be for the film.
-Howard Caine was “fired” by Jack Warner from the film because he kept complaining about the heat. When Peter Hunt found out about this, he went APE SHIT and got Caine back.
-there are many new actors for the 1776 film than original broadway cast themselves. Peter hunt got this all wrong. Yes, some of the original cast was there, but no everybody. The originals include David Ford, William Daniels, Howard Da Silva, Ken Howard, Ralston Hill, Emory Bass, Roy Poole, Ronald Holgate, William Duell, Virginia Vestoff, Jonathan Moore and Charles Rule. (John Cullum was in the Broadway production, but he didn’t originate Rutledge. Same with James Noble but he had been Hancock, not Witherspoon) the new actors include Donald Madden, Ray Middleton, Leo Leyden, William Hansen, Rex Robbins, Patrick Hines, Daniel Keyes, Howard Caine, John Myhers, Blythe Danner and Stephen Nathan. And also all the silent men in congress who don’t have any lines. So yeah, a LOT more new actors then OG cast members.
-when the broadway company went to do the show for Richard Nixon at the White House, the cast were persuaded to do it by the producers telling them they’d all get pay raises. That never ended up happening, and Bill Daniels was LIVID. They were lied to just to do a fucking show for Nixon, because 98% of the cast hated him. After that performance, Howard Da Silva joined an anti-war protest outside of the White House, still in full costume. He HATED Nixon with a PASSION because of his involvement of his blacklisting from Hollywood.
-Bill Daniels missed more performances than he thought he did. In his book, he mentions he only missed 2 shows out of his entire 2 year run. That isn’t true. Paul David-Richards, the OG Josiah Bartlett, understudied John Adams, and in his bio in the playbill, it says he went on at the very last second for Bill, and ended up doing 5 shows that week because Bill got sick. And Jonathan Moore also did one show as Adams.
-The cast referred to the song “Cool, Cool Considerate Men” as “Cool Conservative Men”
That’s it for now :)

What does your Fiyero look like when you write your stories. Like Physical traits. Specific actor? Combo of a few? Vary by story?
That's a tricky question, because I've been writing Wicked fics for 15 years come September 2025, and I've seen a lot of actors in the role of Fiyero in that time so Fiyero has definitely evolved over that time.
Also, when I'm writing the characters often... don't really have a physical form, if that makes sense? I'm more focused on honing in on their thoughts, feelings, mannerisms, etc. So often when I'm planning things out in my head, the characters kinda look like:
Tumblr media
If that makes sense... I don't know, maybe that's weird?
They really only have facial features when I'm trying to picture facial expressions, non-verbal communication, etc. Similar to how I don't tend to think about clothes until it's key to the plot/scene- formal events, dates, weddings, etc.
When I first started writing, I don't think it was until the fics I wrote around 2011-2013 that Fiyero was specifically based upon an actor in terms of physical appearance, David Harris in that case, because he was my Fiyero for shows #3-7 so I had more to go off.
Tumblr media
(you may know him currently as The Duke in Moulin Rogue on Broadway)
In the years since then, Fiyero has really become a mish-mash of different elements of a variety of sources and it depends on the plot and the story as to what elements... float to the top (again, if that makes sense).
Some of these include:
Logan Huntzberger from Gilmore Girls
Prince Naveen from The Princess and the Frog
Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green Gables (specifically the novel and the 1985 miniseries with Megan Follows and Jonathon Crombie)
Jake Peralta from Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Prince Henry from Ever After
Prince Char from Ella Enchanted
Flynn Rider from Tangled
Buck from 9-1-1
Nathan Scott from One Tree Hill
Tony DiNozzo from NCIS
King Frederik of Denmark
Ashton Kutcher (this was up until a few years ago anyway. Just in the sense that I think Fiyero is much smarter than he pretends to be).
This is the Fiyero moodboard from the Canva presentation I made a few years ago for a friend who was coming to see the show with me for the first time:
Tumblr media
(yes, I made my friends a slideshow before they saw the show. I'm a nerd).

there are times where showrunners drop the ball so astronomically it's hilarious, and i'm not talking about when they actively ruin their own characters or story arcs. i'm talking about when they could have grasped some juicy character/actor and they didn't until it was too late lmao.
i am of course talking about two shows: the gilded age and turn washington's spies. i know the gilded age producers were screaming crying once they realized that tom blyth hit it big in the hunger games movie and they had wasted his appearance on a one episode, throwaway role as the would-be fiance of a protagonist's daughter just a year before. they uploaded the singular scene tom blyth had in the show on their tiktok as soon as TBOSAS came out. they knew what they missed out on lmao.
and turn...oh turn. there are so many things i like about you and so many things you could've done better. and yeah i'm biased but not having alexander hamilton be in the show from the get-go was a mistake. he was one of the rare outsiders who actually knew about the culper ring! if there's any aide de camp or figure you want to add to the relationship with ben tallmadge and washington, it's probably him. i need to find a source for it but apparently tallmadge and hamilton stood guard for andre the night before his execution, and they all talked pretty openly - nathan hale was brought up, and hamilton said that tallmadge never talks about hale because it's painful. i don't know, that's some very interesting, potentially historically accurate material right there. in your grasp! the show focused a lot on the french alliance, well who in the aide de camps spoke a lot with the french? hamilton + laurens + lafayette (to some level tilghman though i think he did translation). it was right there.
and the potential comradeship and also conflicting jealousy/contrast you could've elaborated on between tallmadge and hamilton. because lafayette is in the show, very clearly friendly with washington! how nice would've it been to add hamilton, a person who relates more with the show's tallmadge and sees the flaws in washington; and is yet someone who actively rejects/doesn't want washington's affection the way tallmadge does (but perhaps gets it more).
turn premiered in 2014 and i'm wondering if by then the producers had at least heard about a hamilton musical being made. because by mid 2015 (after season 2 premiered) it was a done game and everyone and their cousin knew about the musical. so they added hamilton to the last few episodes of season 3 and gave him some lines in season 4. i wonder if the producers sat there and remembered the conversation they had back in preproduction of season 1, like. "should we add hamilton?" "nah, he'll make things complicated. nobody cares about him anyways!"
ugh. such a waste.

A Killer Hold: A Larkspur Library Mystery Cozy Mystery 3rd in Series Setting - Wisconsin Publisher ‏ : ‎ Level Best Books (December 3, 2024) Paperback ‏ : ‎ 252 pages ISBN-10 ‏ : ‎ 1685127797 ISBN-13 ‏ : ‎ 978-1685127794 Kindle ASIN ‏ : ‎ B0DHY5Y9HZ A librarian’s rule for sleuthing: Better to be bookish than brash! Spring has sprung, and with it, a full line-up of programming at Larkspur Community Library. Director Greta Plank is preparing to host the Wisconsin Library Organization’s annual conference—and dreading the arrival of her ex-boyfriend—while also helping a local treasure-hunting club coordinate a showcase highlighting Northern Wisconsin’s gangster trail and the nearby hideouts of the notorious criminals of the early twentieth century. When Greta overhears the library board president and a larger-than-life member of the treasure-hunting club arguing about a secret discovery, her curiosity is piqued—even more so when one of the women leaves a book with a sequence of strange markings on its pages in the library book return bin. Before Greta can ask about the marginalia, the book’s outspoken owner turns up dead. At the request of the police—though against the better judgment of her new beau, Detective Mark McHenry—Greta sets to work trying to decipher the peculiar notations, and she quickly hypothesizes that there’s more to the story. Was something sketchy going on at the deceased’s jewelry shop? Did her death have anything to do with the gangster trail event she was helping to plan and the personal research she was bragging about? Greta must work against the clock to decode the dead woman’s book code. What she finds is someone willing to go to great lengths to keep a secret buried in the stacks—and the past—even if it means killing again. Dollycas's Thoughts This spring Greta Plank, Director of the Larkspur Community Library is getting ready for a slew of librarians to arrive for the Wisconsin Library Organization’s annual conference. Speakers, accommodations, and meals have all been planned to make the event a rousing success, but Greta is nervous about her ex-boyfriend/ex-boss taking part in the event. While Greta is busy with the conference, library board president Cindi Fields is working on an event with her treasure-hunting club focused on Northern Wisconsin's gangster trail. One of the members, Blythe Prescott says she has made a secret discovery and can't wait to share all the details at their event the following weekend. After Blythe leaves the library Greta realizes one of the books she returned didn't belong to the library. It was filled with odd markings - letters circled and notes in the margins. Greta wants to return the book to its owner but before she can the woman is killed. When Greta brings the book to the attention of Police Chief Sorenson thinking it may help find the killer she is surprised that he asks her to work as a consultant and try to figure out what the notations mean. This doesn't make Detective Mark McHenry. her new significant other happy but it may keep her busy while the police try to solve the case. Wrong . . . when she starts to uncover clues to the killer she realizes she could be the killer's next victim. ____ The librarians in Larkspur are a tight-knit bunch. Greta, Iris, and Josie are friends as well as co-workers and Iris and Josie are there to support Greta and try to help her avoid spending time with her ex Nathan. He really was a creepy dude trying to press himself into conversations and trying to get her alone. He also wants to insert himself into the new murder case. I was very happy that Detective McHenry was by her side and made their relationship quite clear the first time they all came face to face.  All the characters Ms. Dobrinska has created for this story/series feel very true to life. Some we can love and others easy to dislike. There were a couple that pushed my buttons but you have those in every small town. The relationship between McHenry and Greta needs more depth but it is moving in the right direction. What intrigued me was the way the author explored Northern Wisconsin's gangster trail as part of the story. Living in Wisconsin I have heard the stories many times but the way she used the history of the Little Bohemia Lodge as a "jumping off point" for her fictional story gave it solid roots that I really enjoyed. Larkspur became the middle of a hotbed of quite a mystery. The mystery wrapped around the history was filled with twists and well-plotted but it did bog down in a few places. I found myself having a hard time getting a bead on who could be the killer which always makes things fun. Greta took risks and her findings added more layers to the mystery. They also put her in grave danger but she had a plan. The identity of the killer surprised me. I liked the way everyone worked together to bring them down. A Killer Hold was an enjoyable escape full of history and mystery with likable characters in an interesting Wisconsin Northwoods town. I am ready to see what the next chapter brings for Greta and the people of Larkspur. Until December . . . I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Thank you to Level Best Books, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.
