a fun moment making diy vinyl sticker at @natgallerycan became the source of inspiration for my glow-in-the-dark stickers a month later! I’m usually not a playful person so I was upset that my partner made me sit for half of an hour to do some collage, I ended up embracing spontaneity tho🤭

What I love to do most with tulips is to showcase them within their surroundings—Whether that be in a crowded area or accompanied by an urban environment, tulips add a pop of colour wherever you need them. Their vibrant colours are enough of a visual attraction that they don’t really even need to be the centre of attention in an image. . Swipe to see them all, and let me know which one you prefer more. . #nikonambassador #nikon_canada #nikonnofilter #cdntulipfest #natgallerycan #sharecangeo #ottawatourism #canadanice #photography101 #tulipfestival #howtophotograph #flowerpower (Ottawa, Ontario) https://www.instagram.com/p/COX2stjBcGn/?igshid=1on3ktzboihj7

Peter Paul Rubens - “The Abduction of Ganymede” 1612,
Gallery National Gallery of Canada,   @natgallerycan
This Baroque painting is in the Rubens collection of the National Gallery. This perfectly made striking work, a true star in the collection, tells the story of the kidnapping of Ganymede, a young shepherd, and the son of Tros, the legendary king of Troy. God Zeus was impressed as soon as he saw the unique beauty of Ganymede, and therefore, he transformed himself into a giant eagle and took the young shepherd to Olympus, the city of the gods. Ganymedes have been servants of the gods who filled the wine glasses at Olympos. In this striking picture, Ganymedes rises to the sky between the wings of Zeus in the form of a giant eagle, and the two angels hold a golden glass in his hands. The body of Ganymedes reflects the strong light of the baroque era in the picture and stands out with the contrast dominated by navy blue. In the back there are playful gods and a silhouette of the city.

REPRESENTATION: I feel like I’ve got to know some of the characters in Barnett Freedman’s collective watercolour portrait of 32 ‘Representative Workers’ in an aircraft factory. They were drawn in the factories in December 1942 and include the likes of ‘Mrs Wavey Weeks, Fettler’ and ‘Wilfred ‘Lefty’ Mathews, Miller’ (was he a socialist or just left-handed, or both?). Their individuality makes one wonder about their lives and personalities. I couldn’t resist for example looking up the distinctively named Hiram Winterbotham, and - low and behold - I happened on an undiscovered piece of LGBTQ+ history at the heart of the group portrait. It turns out he and Alan Jarvis were lovers - but perhaps the distinctive tweed and scarf combo, and their pose, do give away a more casual intimacy. Winterbotham was a friend of Sir Kenneth Clark (Director of the National Gallery) who ran the War Artists Advisory Group, and indeed Alan Jarvis later became Director of @natgallerycan - so perhaps this couple was the reason Freedman ended up with the commission to depict this particular factory in South West England. Winterbotham was born Arthur Hiram Winterbotham but changed his name to the absurd ‘Arthur Hiram Winterbotham Hiram Winterbotham’. (One has to ask why?Inheritance? A bet?) According to the journals of the curator Roger Hincks (who encountered him at a houseparty at Kenneth Clark’s), he “sounds like an American millionaire in a novel by P.G. Wodehouse” but is in fact a “bachelor with intellectual tastes”, wearing “enormous, totally non-conducting tortoise-shell glasses” and accompanied by “a friend, inevitably called Michael, who said not a single word and contented himself with selections from his repertoire of ravishing smiles, which ranged from a slow, dreamy unfolding of the subconscious to brilliant flashes of amused recognition when one of the two American dowagers present said something more than usually fatuous”. But there they are represented together alongside all these other personnel. I shall miss Barnett Freedman’s faces and the humanity of his work when the exhibition @pallanthousegallery closes on Sunday. Thank you to @tate for loaning this wonderful work. ❤ (at Pallant House Gallery) https://www.instagram.com/p/CG1ywEOFEn6/?igshid=pxua1rewumio

Repost from @davinci_and_dapper from instagram. “Dress for the occasion. ⁣ Being back at the @natgallerycan was a great opportunity for me to break out this pocket square by @kent.wang, which is drawn from the late Medieval ‘Unicorn Tapestries.’ ⁣ It is both an homage to beautiful art and a piece of art in itself. ⁣”
