Chaos should feel like home to you as part of the 501st. But this was different. Losing another Venator from the Fifth Fleet left everyone scrambling. 
The Resolute's hallways were bustling with bodies. 501st and 327nd troopers hurried through the halls, mingling with the "nat borns" as you were called, as everyone hurried to their destination. Between debriefs, scrambling to find places for another entire battalion, as well as the Commando squad you had picked up, and putting out fires, literal and metaphorical, it was mayhem. 
You waved the smoke out of your face, letting out a relieved sigh now that the star fighter had stopped smoldering. The entire hangar smelled of burnt metal and it made your nose sting. You had been tasked with putting out the literal fires after General Secura came careening into the hangar after the star fighter's engine blew out. At least you had gotten that under control and you huffed again as you looked around the hangar. Keeping your mind occupied so you didn't worry about a certain company was harder than you had expected but the commotion around you helped a little. 
Commander Bly's lead mechanic had already started a fight with Manny, the clone that you reported to, and the sudden sound of raised voice told you they hadn't finished the fight yet. You glanced over at your workstation and realized you were definitely going to need more cleaning solution; you were drowning in carbon scouring and this was only the first ship on your list. 
It would only be a short walk to the supply lockers and there wasn't much you could do without cleaning off the carbon build up first. You let out a long exhale and grabbed a rag off your cart, scrubbing at your hands as you hurried across the hangar. As soon as the door opened you nearly plowed into a squad of troopers, barely catching yourself on the doorway before you fell into them. You prayed that the trip back to Coruscant wouldn't take long. 
You made a left, mentally mapping out the route to the supply lockers. You'd made the trip hundreds of times, meaning you let your mind wander as you walked. It probably wasn't the best idea on a ship loaded to the brim with people but it had been a long fucking day. The grease embedded into the swirls of your fingerprints didn't want to come out but the dirty rag in your hand wasn't much help. You looked down at your hands, trying to scrub at the marks as you made the next right.
Hitting someone in full armor did not feel good and it sure as hell rattled your exhausted brain. You stumbled back a step and a hand shot out to grab your arm, keeping you falling on your ass in the middle of the hallway. You opened your mouth, ready to apologize but stopped short, your eyes catching on a familiar blue hand print. An almost giddy laugh fell from your lips as you smiled. 
"Echo!" He returned your smile and it made your stomach somersault. 
"Hi, cyar'ika," he chuckled, sliding his hand down your arm. It felt like a wave hit you, the relief threatening to knock you off your feet. He's alive. 
"Are you okay?" you rushed out, eyes darted around his face. Echo's brows pinched together in concern and it was disgustingly endearing. 
"Should be asking you that," he countered, squeezing your wrist, "I'm the one in full armor." It took your brain a second to make sense of what he was saying.
"Oh I didn't mean - I know it didn't hurt when I ran into you," you huffed lightheartedly. "I mean, after the battle. Are you okay? Are the rest of the boys?" The small, fond smile that spread across Echo's face should've been illegal. He had no right being so cute. 
"We're okay, we're alive," he insisted, carefully pulling you into a hug. The armor was bulky and a little cold but you didn't care, wrapping your arms around his torso. 
This...whole thing was still new between you and Echo. Hells, you hadn't even had a minute alone to have a real date, let alone kiss. War wasn't kind to budding relationships.
You pulled back to look at him, the knot of anxiety in your chest loosening slightly. You could breathe a little easier knowing Torrent company had made it and more specifically, Echo. He smiled at you, all warm and sweet, and it made you melt. The halls around you were, amazingly, empty and you took the opportunity to wrap your arms around his shoulders. Taking the time while you had it was your only option. 
"Echo?"
"Yes, mesh'la," he murmured, wrapping his arms around your waist. 
"Kiss me." A soft, surprised laugh puffed past his lips and your heart skipped when he leaned closer. 
"I'd be crazy to say no to that." It was a chaste kiss, nothing outlandish, but it suddenly felt like a weight had been lifted off your shoulders. It felt like coming home.
The loud shudder of a camera going off made you freeze. Echo's eyes were just as wide as your when you jerked back. It was silent for a beat, your heart seizing in your chest. 
"You moron!" a very familiar voice, very young, hissed from behind you. You let your arms fall away from Echo's shoulders, turning to face the small group standing a few feet down the hallway. Commander Tano at least had the decency to look apologetic; Fives, Jesse, and Hawk...not so much. 
"Uh, hi?" you said, shifting a step away from Echo. 
"I told you," Fives laughed, shoving Jesse enough to make him sway. 
"Was it a secret?" Hawk asked, glancing over at Commander Tano. 
"It was a badly kept one if so," Fives snorted, his eyes darting over to you. 
"Excuse me?" Four heads turned in your direction, almost like they forgot you were there. "Anyone care to explain what I'm missing here?"
"Jesse didn't think you guys were dating," Commander Tano mumbled sheepishly. 
"Come on, it's Echo," Jesse offered as an explanation. "Mr. Reg Manual."
"Hey!"
"What! It's true," Jesse insisted, clearly fighting a smile. Fives knocked shoulders with Jesse before closing the distance, throwing an arm over Echo's shoulder.
"I believed in you, vod," Fives said with a grin. 
"Shut up," Echo huffed, shoving his brothers away. The chirping of a comlink cut through the air and Commander Tano lifted her wrist, checking a message with a groan.
"Come on, Rex is already mad we're late for the debrief," she grumbled. The rest of the boys groaned in unison, bringing a smile to your face. Fives moved to join the rest of the group again and you stepped aside to let Echo past but he paused.
"I'll see you later?"
"Of course," you chuckled. Your heart skipped again when he leaned in, pressing a quick kiss to your lips before hurrying after his brothers. You watched them for a moment, Fives dragging Echo closer with an arm around his shoulders, until they disappeared around a corner. The supply lockers were only a few more feet down the hall and you hurried to the door but your thoughts were elsewhere.
You decided to ask Fives to send you that holo. Not everyone got to immortalize their first kiss.

They're spooned up together in bed after cleaning up and getting ready for bed when Steve breaks the silence by mumbling unintelligibly into Tony's neck.
"Hmm? What was that?" Tony asks, turning around in Steve's arms to face him.
"I said, the rest of the team is going to be completely insufferable about this."
Tony furrows his brows, unsure where Steve is going with this.
"What do you mean? Why?"
"Come on," Steve sighs, exasperated. "You have to know that they've been betting on how long it would take for us to get together."
"Oh, yeah, that." Tony shrugs. "Well we can't really do much about it, can we? We're finally together now. I'm really, really happy about this," he says, running a hand through Steve's hair.
Steve closes his eyes at the gentle tugging, humming softly in agreement.
"So am I. But don't you think it'll be funny to mess with them just for a little bit?"
Tony pulls back, intrigued by Steve's tone that he's secretly patented as the Steve-Rogers-is-a-little-shit voice.
"Alright, I'm game. What did you have in mind?"

The next morning, they arrive at breakfast separately. Steve gets there first as usual after a run and a shower, with Tony showing up twenty minutes later just after Clint has taken a seat at the island with a bowl of cereal in hand. He sits down next to Bruce, wrinkling his nose at his science bro's cup of camomile tea as he goes. Steve sets down Tony's favorite mug filled with his favorite brew in front of him and smiles at him sweetly, softly stroking his cheek just once before turning back to the burner.
This does not go unnoticed by the rest of the team.
Throughout the rest of breakfast, the two share soft smiles between their bites of food, feet brushing against each other under the table.
At one point Steve's toes accidentally (on purpose) brush against Natasha's leg, but she doesn't comment on it.

For the rest of the week, Steve and Tony mess with the team by blatantly acting like a couple while never confirming the actual status of their relationship. As far as the team can tell without either of them saying anything, they've just suddenly become a lot more physical with their affection while still living in denial. They know that the betting pool is worth at least a thousand bucks, and they're not going to make it easy for any of them to win that money.
They show up to team meetings hand in hand and sit side by side, Steve doodling on Tony’s arm and Tony whispering in Steve’s ear, the two of them giggling softly amongst themselves. They hog the loveseat during movie night, but are snuggled so close together that another person could fit in there easily. They say goodbye in the mornings with soft kisses on the cheek or forehead, followed with “I’ll see you tonight, gorgeous” and spend the rest of their days smiling cheek to cheek.
Through it all, it’s clear that their teammates are vibrating out of their skin with the need to ask and confirm whether they’ve started dating, but hilariously enough, no one dares to actually come right out with their questions.
It all comes to a head late on Saturday night, when Steve and Tony are returning home from a date. They’re wrapped up in each other, Steve bracketing Tony against the corner of the elevator, enthusiastically making out without a care for anything else in the world. The elevator comes to a stop on the communal floor without either of them noticing, and it isn’t until they hear someone clear their throat that they stop to take a look at the person who’s so rudely disturbed them.
Clint and Natasha stare back at them with matching smirks on their faces.
“Finally!” Clint exclaims, raising both ands up in celebration. “About time you guys finally start dating!”
Steve turns towards them fully, putting on the most innocent expression he can muster, and asks, “What makes you think we’re dating?”
Clint is gobsmacked by this question, evidently confused that it’s even something that Steve had to ask. “Isn’t it obvious? You guys have been all over each other all week. All the handholding and goodbye kisses and cuddling and smiling. You were literally just making out in the elevator!”
At that, Steve’s face morphs into an expressionless mask and he says, deadpan, “People kiss each other all the time, doesn’t mean there’s feelings involved.”
He presses the door close button on the panel and just as the elevator doors slide completely shut on Clint’s dumbfounded gaping and Natasha’s narrowed eyes, Steve turns back to Tony and presses their lips together hard, drawing a moan from the other man.

Clint stares at the closed elevator doors. “They’re fucking with us. They have to be, right?”
“Definitely.”
“You gotta help me think of a way to get them to admit it, Nat. We need this for the bet.”
“Hmm.” Natasha turns towards the stairwell to head up to her room. “I think we’re just gonna have to let this one go.”

“Buchanan, you fucker!” Y/N yelled from across the compound moments before Bucky strutted into the boardroom with a roll of his eyes.
The rest of the team’s head’s turned to follow the loud noise of Y/N yelling, watching the long haired super soldier enter the room with a smug look on his face.
“Not again.” Bruce sighed softly, his head falling into his hand as he prepared himself for another bickering match between Y/N and Bucky. 
“Don’t you walk away from me.” Y/N followed Bucky into the room, her eyes fixed on the back of his head as he casually made his way over to the others. 
“Guys, cut it out.” Tony spoke sternly, trying to control the two avengers who were constantly at each other’s throats. 
“Just wait until you hear what he said.” Y/N looked over at Tony who’s palms were pressed against the edge of the large conference table. He shook his head, looking between the two is disbelief. 
“I don't ca-”
“Don’t be such a baby.” Bucky retaliated to Y/N childishly before Tony could speak. The super soldier slumped down in the empty seat next to Cap, his eyes focused on her from across the room as his elbows rested on the arm rests of the swivel chair. Neither of them cared that they’d bought the whole room into the argument. “All I said was I’d rather take my chances with spider-boy than have Y/N as my partner on a mission.” 
“This is coming from the guy who couldn’t even hold on to a train.” She growled as she pulled out the seat next to Nat, who was smiling an amusement at how well Y/N stood up for herself. Bucky scoffed at her comment, shaking his head as he thought of something to anger her further.
Peter’s face screwed up in shock after realising his name had been mentioned, his arms coming up to cross over his body defensively. “Hey! What’s that supposed to mean?” He asked as a devious smile appear on Bucky’s face. Peter glanced over at Tony for help, but he was too annoyed to care about the youngest avenger’s feelings. 
“It means-” Y/N words were cut off by a loud bang of Tony’s hand hitting the desk. The sound made everyone jolt slightly, the room immediately silencing.
“Enough!” He yelled furiously, eyebrows furrowing into a frown as he glared between the bickering pair. “I didn’t call this meeting to hear you two fight. You’re already late, now stop acting like children and listen up.” 
Y/N bit the inside of her cheek, trying to stop the laughter that was building up inside of her from hearing Tony yell as she glared over at Bucky.
“Asshole.” She mouthed to Bucky, who was already smirking at the fact that they’d been told off like toddlers. 
“Snitch.” He whispered back cheekily, secretly liking the way he knew it would make her laugh. Bucky liked being the only reason she got frustrated, wound up and tense. But he also liked being the only reason she smiled, laughed and blushed.
Bucky had this hold on Y/N that couldn’t be explained. She’d tried to reason with herself, telling her inner-self it was just her caring nature that made her feel sorry for him, even when he was a complete dick to her. He was constantly doing things to purposely annoy her or to get a reaction. It gave him a thrill. Like a power trip that sent pleasure to his brain. And he took advantage of that any chance he got.
“Now, over the past few weeks the threats from the Beyonders have increased noticeably.” Tony stood up straight, tugging his collar back into place as he clicked the button of the control he was holding. The screen changed, a mathematical graph appearing to prove Tony’s point. 
Y/N chanced a glance over at Bucky, his fingers on each hand intwined as he swivelled lightly in the chair. God, he was so infuriating. There wasn’t a day that went by without him getting on her last nerve. He frustrated her beyond belief. But for some twisted reason, she loved it. 
“Now we don’t know a lot about who they are, what they want or where they came from.” Tony continued, the room dead silent as he flicked to the next slide.
Bucky bit the inside of his lip, a frown appearing on his brows as he zoned out to what Tony was saying. He was bored already, deciding to look down at his metal hand as he wiggled his fingers to amuse himself, studying the mechanics of it.
He felt a pair of eyes burning into him, glancing over to Y/N. A smug smile washed over his face when he noticed her already looking at him. He gave her a quick wink, pouting his lips into a kissing motion as she rolled her eyes. 
“So, we’ve had to call on the help of an old acquaintance.” Tony turned to face the team again, his fingers lightly tapping on the table in front of him as his eyes darted around the room. Luckily by that point, Y/N and Bucky had both turned their eyes back to the spokesman. 
Tony’s tongue quickly darted out to the corner of his mouth, the unknown reaction of the team was making him anxious.
“Excuse me, Mr Stark. Thor and Loki have just landed. Should I send them in?” F.R.I.D.A.Y’s voice came through the intercom, immediately causing a few murmurs from the team. 
“Loki’s here?” Y/N’s eyes lit up immediately as she looked up at Tony for confirmation. Bucky’s head shot round to where she sat, eyebrows furrowing as he wondered who the hell Loki was and why Y/N was so excited to see him. 
“You called Loki?” Steve almost shot up out of his chair, a look of betrayal on his face as he stared at Tony, waiting for an explanation. “Tony, he is not an acquaintance.” 
The fact that Steve was so put off by the mention of Loki had Bucky even more concerned. If Steve had a problem with him, so did he. Especially since Y/N liked him. As the room grew louder in outbursts of resentment regarding Tony’s decision, so did Bucky’s brain. 
He watched Y/N try and fix her hair subtly, sitting up straighter in her chair as an unusual feeling flooded through him. He wasn't angry, but he sure as hell wasn’t happy. 
The beep of the boardroom door opening quickly silenced the group, Y/N’s head turning to watch the God of Thunder walk into the room. “Hello everyone.” Thor nodded with a sweet smile, pleased to be back with his friends again. “Good to see you all.”
It was almost as if a cold wind engulfed the room as Bucky watched the dark haired, chiseled faced, pale god strut into the room. Bucky’s jaw clenched, his eyes darkening as he felt a wave of overwhelming hate flood through his body. He noticed Loki’s hair was longer than his own. His eyes brighter. His smile wider. His jaw sharper. 
“Greetings, all.” His voice was slicker. He was charismatic. He was charming. He was everything Bucky wasn’t and he fucking hated him. Bucky felt his heartbeat quicken as he watched Loki greet everyone individually, stopping in his tracks as he reached Y/N’s chair. 
She’d turned to face him, her eyes lit up like fireworks as she looked up at the god of mischief who had put his hands over his mouth. “My god,” Loki gasped softly as he pulled his best puppy dog face, leaning his hands on the arms of Y/N chair to get close to her. “Y/N, you look more beautiful every time I see you, my love.” 
Bucky felt his jaw clench so tight he was sure it would break. His hands closed into tight fists as he sat up a little straighter in his chair. He was livid. Livid at the fact that this green-eyed hot shot thought he could waltz in and steal Y/N away from him. Bucky was the only one that made her smile. He was the only one that got to have her attention. 
“Oh, Loki, stop, you’re making me blush.” She giggled softly and wrapped her arms around his neck like they belonged there. Loki turned his face towards her, leaving a gentle kiss on her flushed cheek before he stood back up. Bucky had never made her giggle like that. He’d never kissed her cheek before. He’d spent every damn day with her and he never got her to blush like a little school girl.
“Maybe later you can show me your favourite spots and we can talk about what's changed since I was last here.” Loki spoke softly, taking Y/N’s hand in his as he pulled it against his chest dotingly.
A few snickers broke out from the rest of the team, not surprised one bit at Loki and Y/N’s interaction. Believe it or not, Y/N wasn’t Loki’s biggest fan. She would never actually progress their friendship to anything more than flirting, deep down she didn’t trust him just as much as Steve didn’t. But Y/N did love the attention that Loki gave her. How he treated her like a princess and devoted himself to her every word. She liked how he complimented her and made a fuss. She liked how he made her feel special in a room full of people.
But all that Bucky saw unravelling in front of his eyes was the start of one of those soppy rom-coms that he despised. “We have training later, Y/N.” His words came out a lot more aggressive than he originally intended. 
The whole room’s attention turned to him, straight faced and stiffened body. Loki stood up straight as a glimmer shone in his eyes. He noticed how on edge the super soldier looked.
“Yeah, we’ll still have time to train, Bucky.” She spoke with a level of concern, noticing the unusual seriousness on Bucky’s face. “I wouldn’t skip on the opportunity to kick your ass.” She smirked, face immediately dropping as she watched Bucky quickly divert his eyes away, not entertaining her with his usual sarcastic response.
“Bucky?” Loki’s voice was low as thoughts flew through his brain at a million miles per hour. He smiled deviously, eyes squinting as his heart jumped at the chance to cause mischief. “James Buchanan Barnes. The winter soldier.” 
Bucky clenched his jaw again as his eyes flickered up to Loki before back to the table, he could feel his anger bubbling over. Loki had been getting under his skin ever since he walked through the damn door. 
“Hydra’s most successful experiment, their deadliest weapon.” Loki made a quick move around the table to stand in front of Bucky, his eyes widening with excitement as he held his hand out in front of him. “May I say what a pleasure it is to meet you.”
Steve noticed Bucky’s metal hand grip tightly around the arm of his chair as he politely lifted his flesh arm to quickly shake Loki’s hand. Bucky smiled as he momentarily looked up at the long haired god, using all of his will power to stay calm. 
“How did it feel to know how many people you killed once you got your mind back?” Loki’s words were slow and full of deviance as Bucky’s metal arm began whirring into action. 
Y/N watched worriedly, she annoyed the crap out of Bucky all the time, but she’d never seen him so angry. Her heart sunk as she watched Bucky’s eyes darken, a soft, lost look on his face that disappeared so quick she almost thought she’d imagined it.
Steve’s eyes widened as he watched the event unfold. “I think that’s enough chit chat, Loki.” He spoke sternly, Loki’s eyes immediately glancing over to Steve. He knew the fact that Steve had to step in meant he’d done a good job of infuriating Bucky. “Why don’t you just get on with what you came here to do.” 
Loki stayed silent, pleased with his work as he flickered quick a smile, striding back up to the front of the room where Tony stood. 
“The Beyonders are a race of extra-dimensional entities powerful enough to collect planets.” Loki went straight into ‘business mode’, his charismatic nature immediately made most of the room forget what he’d just said to Bucky.
But Steve was concerned, and embarrassingly enough, so was Y/N. Yes, she loved to aggravate Bucky, wind him up until he was chasing her down the hallway or whining at her to stop being a brat. But it was never to hurt him, she made sure of that. Not like what Loki had just done. She tried to silently get his attention by glancing over at him every now and then, but Bucky’s eyes didn’t budge from the table. 
“Their nature is so alien that they are unable to leave their own dimension and for millennia were never observed by any being of the Earth dimension.” Loki continued to teach the team about the threat they were facing, the room silent as mostly everyone paid attention. “To interact with the Earth dimension they must operate through agents.”
“So basically, what Loki is saying is, it’s not just one race we’re up against here. It’s gunna be a big ass battle.” Tony interjected Loki’s speech, he’d read the room enough to know he’d lost the attention of three of his avengers already. There was no need for this to continue. “That’s all you need to know for now. We’ll regroup tomorrow for another meeting. Thank you, Loki.” 
The team stood up, casually making their way out of the room after Tony had ended the meeting. Y/N lagged behind, watching Steve and Sam mumbling something incoherent to Bucky.
By the looks of things he didn’t want to listen to what they had to say, the long haired super soldier pushed past his oldest friend with a frown on his face, not lifting his eyes even once as he left the room.
Y/N sighed as she watched Bucky storm out of the room, she’d never seen him act out so much, he was always so internal with his emotions. She didn’t like the way Loki brought up Bucky’s past in front of everyone like that. She almost felt protective over Bucky, like she was the only one who should be able to tease him about that kind of stuff.
The look on Bucky’s face when Loki had mentioned the Winter Soldier’s assassinations made Y/N’s heart ache. It was as if everything came flooding back to him in an instant, like a bad dream he couldn’t wake up from. 
Y/N and Bucky had never discussed such personal things, no way. She didn’t know that he suffered from PTSD, flashbacks and social anxiety. She didn’t know about the nights he lay awake haunted by his past. All she saw was a grumpy looking soldier who only smiled when he was making fun of her.
“Darling,” Loki’s sudden call to her knocked Y/N out of her thoughts. Her head was forced to turn to the side by the god of mischief, whose hands were on her shoulders. He smiled down at her dotingly, eyes bright as he fed her attention-needy ego. “What do you say we make the most of this alone time we’ve been so generously given, hm?”
She smiled softly up at him, although her eyes were glazed over as her mind wandered off again. “Sorry Loki, but I should go and get ready for training.” Her voice was monotone and quiet as she suddenly wasn’t so interested in the attention of the man in front of her. 
She left the room and wandered through the compound, stopping in her tracks when she saw Sam, Steve and Nat talking in the kitchen. “Hey, Steve.” Y/N called out, confused as to why she was suddenly so concerned about the metal armed man. 
As all three of the avenger’s heads turned to where she was standing, Y/N began second guessing her decision to ask if Bucky was okay. She hated Bucky, he annoyed the shit out of her. Even if she asked, the team would just think she was asking to make sure he wasn’t okay. What if they thought she’d take Loki’s side? Or worse. What if they thought she’d set Loki up to hurt Bucky? Even worse than that. What if Bucky thought Y/N had set Loki up to hurt him?

The trip out to New York is uneventful. You sleep in the car occasionally but you do stop at a couple of hotels you never sleep super well. Besides there’s something about being in a car with your Alpha that just soothes you to sleep. You wake at one point and hear him talking softly on the phone.
“Nat, I don’t want a big party. It’s going to stress her out and she’s probably going to be close to a heat so I don’t want a ton of people around. Just you, Clint, Wanda, Carol and Jarvis.”
“Everyone is so excited though.”
“They’re going to have to wait. Her well-being is my first concern.”
“Steve,”
“Natasha.” He warns lowly and you hear her sigh.
“Fine. Fine. I’ve got a few places lined up for you to look at as well as a property so if building your own place is more appealing you can do that. I don’t know how sensitive your Omega’s nose is.”
“I doubt she does either. We’re about four hours out. Thanks for doing all of this Nat.”
“I’m glad you finally found someone worthy of you Alpha.” You don’t love that she calls him Alpha, so you take a deep breath so Steve knows that you’re awake.
“Thank you Natasha. See you soon.”
“Bye.” She says and Steve hangs up.
“How much did you hear?”
“Her call you Alpha.” You admit grumpily and he laughs softly.
“Are you a little jealous?” When you grumble in response he sobers up, “They all do that Omega, not just Natasha. It’s a respect thing.”
“It was jarring. You’re my Alpha.”
“I know, I’m sorry I should’ve warned you.” He soothes, his hand is warm on your thigh when he reaches over. You trace the back of his hand with one of your fingers.
“How close are we?”
“About 4 hours, you need to stop?”
“No, I was just curious. I’m nervous too, I’m meeting your pack.”
“You’re only meeting a couple today. The rest will trickle in when you’re ready, take as long as you need.”
“Okay, thank you.”
The rest of the ride is spent in comfortable conversation and singing along to the radio. He puts you at such ease that you forget to be anxious, at least until Steve pulls off of the freeway.
“Take a breath Honey, it’s going to be fine.” He promises and you cling to his hand as he drives for a couple more minutes then pulls up to a little house. “Let me know when you’re ready to go in.”
“Can, god this is so stupid, can you calm me?”
“Oh Honey I can absolutely do that. C’mere.” He mutters before kissing you softly, his hands cup your face and you feel the sense of calm wash over you. He pulls away from you then kisses along your jaw, before covering your mouth once more. “How do you feel Omega?” He murmurs softly and you hum lowly.
“Good.”
“Ready?”
“Yes, as I will ever be.” His calm makes you feel a little drowsy but it’s better than the panic you could be in. Steve gets out of the car and you follow him, Cooper waits patiently in the back to be let out. You take his leash and he walks calmly next to you, Steve meets you at the front of the car. He takes your hand and gives it a gentle squeeze,
“I don’t think anyone is here yet.” Sure enough when he unlocks the door the house is empty.
“Oh god it smells good in here.” You mutter softly, “Can I let Cooper wander?”
“It’s your house too now Honey. You don’t have to ask.” You unhook Cooper’s leash and he wanders around the living room. “You look good in here, you belong here.”
“You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me Steve.” You tell him giving him a tight hug.
“Oh Honey.” He says gently before kissing your cheek. “Wanna see the house?” You nod and he leads you through the house showing you where things are. The doorbell rings and you tense up and the calm washes over you again as Steve presses a kiss to the side of your head. Cooper barks and you can’t help but smile at the familiarity of it all.
“Thanks Steve.” You follow him downstairs and when the door opens it’s just Sam and Bucky and a pretty blonde woman who you assume is Carol.
“Had to fight Becca to get her to stay home.” Bucky says with a punch to Steve’s arm, “thought she was gonna scream me to death when I told her ‘bout your Omega.” Carol gives you a kind smile as she follows Sam into the house, she smells like Oranges and chocolate.
“Wish she would’ve screamed you to death. Then we wouldn’t have to listen to your dumb ass anymore.” Sam says lowly.
“I see the two of you have had enough time together.” Carol says with a laugh, “Hi Fawn, I’m Carol. Sam’s much, much better half.” She doesn’t try to shake your hand or touch you in anyway which you appreciate.
“Hi, thank you for coming.”
“Thank you for spoiling Sam, he says you’re one hell of a cook.” She says kindly, “We live right next door so when the boys are at work feel free to call if you need anything.” She puts a business card down on the end table then drops down onto Sam’s lap.
Next comes a young woman with auburn hair and a tall man with purple hair. Steve introduces them as Wanda, an Alpha and Viz, a Beta. They’re one of the newer pairs in Steve’s pack but it seems like everyone was just kind of waiting for it to happen. Wanda is a calm in the storm that is the three other Alpha’s currently wresting for control of the remote on your couch.
“Enough.” Steve growls at the three of them as their scents spike and you bury your face into his chest.
Natasha and Clint come next, Nat is the one that you’d heard on the phone earlier and when you see her that little possessiveness rears it’s head. She’s beautiful. “Omega.” Steve rumbles into your ear and you feel so silly for being jealous of her using his title.
“You didn’t do her justice Rogers.” She says giving you a kind smile, one you tightly return. She and Clint are both Betas, she’s more smoky smelling and he’s more earthy but both are pleasant. She calls Steve Alpha once but he quickly pulls her aside and after they talk quietly she doesn’t do it again. Overall the night is a success, and you go to bed happy.
The next day is spent looking at different houses they’re about thirty minutes outside of the city. The first neither of you is thrilled with, the second doesn’t have a yard for Cooper, the third is off a busy street and smells terrible but when you pull up to the plot of land it all clicks.
“Would you be mad if I said I wanted to build?” You ask Steve as you stand at the top of the hill the property is on. The view here is incredible overlooking a river and some woods below you.
“Not at all.” He assures you, a hand on the small of your back, “whatever it takes to make you happy.”
“It’s going to be so expensive.”
“That’s okay. I’m independently wealthy.” You stare up at him for a second to see if his kidding,
“I’m sorry what?”
“Old money. If you didn’t want to you’d never have to do another book again.”
“Why are you a firefighter?”
“I like serving the community, and I’m good at it.” You stare at him for a moment longer then look back out over the property.
“This feels right doesn’t it?”
“Yea Honey it does.” He agrees, so you sign some paperwork and buy the plot of land. You want to get building started before your heat hits and you smell like an Omega and you do so just in time. Apparently Clint runs a very successful construction firm so you get the layout of the house done in two days.
When you wake on the third day you know you’re in your heat. You wake up feeling just as tired as you did yesterday and everything smells so bad except Steve. He goes to get up and you whimper softly, and he freezes as you reach out to him.
“Honey are you in heat?”
“I think so. It’s been so long since I’ve had an actual heat.”
“Do you want to talk to one of our Omegas?”
“You actually have those?” He huffs out a chuckle.
“Yea, not many but we do. Becca is one.” A cramp hits and you gasp in surprise. Steve reaches for his phone and you grab onto his arm.
“No, I just need you Steve.”
“Omega are you sure?”
“Yes, please Steve. I wanted to be sure that without my suppressants you were still my Alpha. You are. Please.” He rolls so that he’s on top of you, his knees between yours an arm on either side of your head and his scent all around you. “You smell so good Steve.”
“So do you Omega.” He grumbles he’s about to kiss you when his phone rings. You both groan loudly before he rolls off of you and grabs it.
“What?” Someone on the other end talks, “No, my Omega is in heat.” He says before hanging up. The phone rings again before he even puts it down so he stalks to the window, opens it and throws the phone outside.
“You know there is such thing as a power button.”
“I was going to smash it so I feel like I should get some credit for my self control.” He says stalking back toward you. This time his mouth finds yours before he’s settled back over you, his dog tags hit your chest and you cling to them keeping him close to you. Steve kisses down your jaw to your pulse point then down to your scent gland.
“Do it.” You whisper, “please.”
“You’re sure?”
“Yes.” You’ve never been more sure about anything in your life. You feel his breath on your scent gland and you take a slow breath, then he bites. The pain and pleasure are so overwhelming that you black out. When you come to Steve is still placing soft kisses to your face.
“Omega. You back?”
“That was- indescribable. Thank you Alpha.”
“Careful Honey or you’re going to trigger my rut and then I won’t be able to spoil you.”
“I don’t need to be spoiled.”
“Too damn bad Honey. You’re going to be for the rest of your life. Now, I’m gonna go make some breakfast Becca always said day two was the harder day so I want to make sure you’re up to strength.” He goes to get up but you’ve still got a grip on his dog tags. “Omega.”
“You don’t wanna? I mean I thought-“
“Oh Omega I want you, terribly, but I don’t want to wear you out for tomorrow. From what I remember day one is for lots of sleep and comfort, day two is for sex and day three is for more sleep and comfort. Do you want me to have Bucky come take Cooper?”
“Yea. But you’ll have to go get your phone.”
“Damn it.” He grumbles but he gets to his feet, grabs the shirt he was wearing before bed and passes it to you before getting a clean one for himself. You pull his shirt on and sigh happily brushing your fingers gently over his mark. Steve glances over at you and gives you a small smile then holds a hand out for yours. “Wanna come with me to the kitchen? I can kiss ya some more while we cook.” You nod and climb out of bed with a wide smile taking the hand he offers, you’ll gladly go wherever he goes for rest of your life.

Summary: you’re a terrible dancer, but need to know how for Stark’s upcoming party

“Doll? Whatcha doing?” Steve asked, walking into an empty training area, seeing you, attempting to dance. You sighed heavily, “trying to dance, I’m not really the best….” You admitted, Bucky had now joined you and heard that last part, he looked a little sad. “Yeah, I knew how much you both liked dancing so I was trying to get better at it before the party so I could dance with you both.” The men found it really sweet and hugged you tightly, “doll we don’t care that you are a dead hoofer (a bad dancer) we just want to have fun, and Bucky can help you! You know, he was a real ducky shin-cracker (a really good dancer) back in our day.” The guys laughed, reminiscing the dancing they got up to. You were also laughing, but for a completely different reason, when you didn’t stop after a second, the soldiers got a little concerned, “doll, are you ok? Nothing was that funny.” Steve asked. You calmed down enough to respond, “yeah, I’m fine, it’s just, what in the world is a ‘dead hoofer’, and should I be offended, and what is a ‘ducky shin-cracker?” The guys looked at you confused, “doll, you don’t know what that is?” “I mean, no, no one uses that anymore, I’m assuming it’s 40’s slang words, right?” Steve and Bucky shared a look of embarrassment, “yeah, it is, sorry doll, a dead hoofer is a bad dancer, and I’m sorry ‘bout that, a ducky shin-cracker is a really good dancer.” You then had a look of worry, you didn’t want them to feel bad, “no, no, no, don’t be sorry, and don’t be embarrassed, I really like it, it was adorable, please continue to use your old people slang, besides that would mean getting rid of doll, and that one is wayyyy to good to get rid of.” You added a wink to the end and the guys were relived and laughing even. “And yes, I would love for you both to help me dance, if the offer is still on the table?” “It always is for you doll.”
“Doll! You did it! You’re almost ready for the jitterbug! That’s when you know you’re a real jive bomber!” Bucky exclaimed as you completed the dance without tripping or stepping on his toes. “English please, Buck?” You said giggling, loving how his Brooklyn accent came out when he spoke in his 40’s slang. “It means you’re becoming a really good dancer doll, I’m proud of ya.” He took you in his arms and gave you a kiss, “how abouts we show Stevie and then we take our dame out on the town.” You giggled again, “I know that one.” Referring to ‘dame’ as he previously stated.
“Stevie!!” You called out, searching for your other boyfriend, Bucky right behind you. “In here doll!” You ran to him and gave him a hug, “so let me see it! Go ahead, cut a rug (to dance)!” You pressed play on your phone for the music and you started to dance, you made it through without goofing it up and Steve clapped at the end. “Looked perfect doll. Can’t wait to dance with ya tomorrow night at Stark’s party.” You all went in for a group hug and you left to go practice and make sure your dress was ready for tomorrow.
“Ms. Y/N, your presence is requested by Ms. Romanoff in her bedroom to get ready for the party.” FRIDAY called out. “On my way Fri!” You turned to your boys who you were currently cuddling with on your couch, watching a movie. “Alright loves, I’ll see you tonight,” you gave them each a kiss, “doollllll.” Steve whined, “do you have to go, we’re comfy.” Bucky added, pouting with Steve. You just chuckled, “yes, I do, I’m sorry, but you guys will see me in a few hours don’t worry, and I don’t plan on leaving your side at the dance if I don’t have to.” “Mmmm, good,” Bucky said, Steve humming in agreement.
You spent the next few hours getting ready with Nat and Wanda, you on hair, Wanda on makeup and Nat on accessories. You finally got done, and headed down to the party area, you were maybe 5 minutes late, because Nat claimed you all needed to be ‘fashionably late’ since you were so fashionable.
You walked in and every guy’s eyes, and maybe a few women’s, we’re on you. You saw Bucky and Steve and started heading over to them. Before you could reach them someone blocked your path. “Hey pretty lady, can I get you a drink, and then maybe a dance?” It was some Shield Agent, one of the arrogant ones who was a sexist asshole. “No thank you, I’m actually on my way to see my boyfriends, so if you’ll kindly move.” You tried to be sweet but stern; that was always option one. Not giving him a chance to respond you shoved past him. Walking by him, he reached out and groped your ass. You quickly turned around, “what the fuck man!” “Let me show you a real man babydoll, give you the time of your life.” You were fuming, no one called you any version of doll except Bucky or Steve. You were about to start yelling at him and probably kicking him where the sun don’t shine when you felt a pair of hands on you. You almost turned around and kicked whoever was trying to hold you back, until you recognized the rough hands, they were Steve’s. “I believe our girlfriend said no, you should’ve listened to her the first time, we would’ve counted it as your mistake, but no, you had to go and grope her ass, you sexist fucking pig!” Bucky lunged and his metal fist contacted with the guys nose, breaking it. “You asshole!” The agent yelled, and Bucky retorted, smirking, “well, you are what you eat,” He gave one last punch and security arrived to escort the now ex agent out of the building.
The guys turned their attention to you, pulling you off into a secluded corner. “You alright doll? You look absolutely stunning by the way,” Bucky was looking you over for bruises, Steve handing you some water. “I’m alright Buck, how about your hand?” “Doll, it’s metal it can’t get injured.” He chuckled, but you weren’t laughing, “I mean your real hand love, I saw the knuckles, hand it here, let me look at it, Stevie can you go grab some wrap from under the bar counter?” Steve went and grabbed it while you whipped up the blood with a tissue you’d had. You wrapped up Bucky’s hand and gave both boys a kiss. “Now that the excitements all over, I can really take in this beautiful dame standing in front of me. God, you look stunning doll.” Steve commented, taking your figure in. “You guys look very handsome, my dreamboats (very handsome man.)” The men preened at the complement, noting the new 40’s language you had used. “Love ya doll,” they both said, “love ya too Buck, Stevie, now let’s….cut a bug?” the boys laughed at your incorrect attempt, “close enough,” Bucky laughs as he pulled both his partners to the dance floor.

A young girl with dark red hair taps her foot against the tiled floor, humming a song while reading her book.
"Drove my chevy to the levee but the levee was dry. Them good ol' boys were drinking whiskey and rye, singing this'll be the-"
"Can you shut up?" She tears her eyes from her book to see you, a hateful glare on your face.
"No." She stares defiantly into Y/E/C eyes, making your resolve waver for a second before returning full force. You bristle as she returns her attention to her book.
She starts humming again under her breath, smirking subtly when you don't object. Something wet and sticky hits her neck and she flinches, glancing your way. You glance out the window quickly, a smug smile on your face.
She brushes the spitball away before returning her attention to her book. Another spitball hits her, this time on the cheek. She brushes it off once again, her patience growing thin.
Once more, a spitball hits her, this time, right in her ear. She explodes, her chair falling backwards as she launches herself at you, grabbing you by the collar.
"What is your problem!?" A teacher rushes forward as she continues to throttle you, your face turning red. The teacher pries her off of you, sending a stern look at you.
"Both of you, principal's office now!" Her voice is shrill as you grab your bag, glaring at the girl who glares right back at you, her head held high as she straightens her shirt before marching out of the room.

"So. Ms. Danvers tells me you were attempting to murder Ms. Y/L/N? Ms. Romanoff." The girl, sorry- Natasha, stares straight into Fury's eyes, her back ramrod straight.
"It was aggravated assault," she reports as you mentally sigh, preparing yourself for the punishment.
"Snitch," you mutter under your breath which causes Fury to arch an eyebrow.
"Well in that case, I guess I'll be marking the two of you as absent for the next week." He reaches for the phone on his desk. "You're suspended."
You launch yourself from the chair, leaning across the desk.
"Suspended?" You let out a disbelieving laugh. "I can't be suspended sir." Fury stares at you.
"And since when were you Principal?" You huff, grabbing your bag and storming from the room. Natasha grabs her backpack calmly, nodding at Fury before leaving the room.
She walks briskly, catching up to you in no time as you stare straight ahead, tearing through the school hallways.
"You brought this on yourself." You growl, grabbing her and pinning her to the wall of lockers. She doesn't even flinch, staring at you expectantly.
"I hate you." You release her, muttering it under your breath. She smirks, slinging an arm around your shoulder.
"You know you love me," she whispers teasingly, her breath warm against your ear. You shove her away, jumping onto your bike and pedaling home. She watches you go, shaking her head with a smile as she turns away.

You push open the door of the ice cream shop, licking it as you plop down on the curb.
Your mother had taken the news surprisingly well. You had a record for being, well as your mother liked to put it, troubled.
Humming a tune from a musical you loved so dearly, Hairspray. It's a jaunty little song, 'The New Girl In Town'.
"Can you shut up?" A husky voice rings out and you look up, your eyes squinting before landing on a familiar, lean yet muscular figure. Her silhouette is outlined by the sun towering about you. Her red hair looks like it's aflame as she sits down next to you. You scoot away a little.
"Can't I sing what I want to sing without being harassed?' You quip and she snorts.
"Hark who's talking." She laughs as you square your shoulders, turning away from her. "Oh don't pout. You look cuter when you smile." You blush faintly, hiding behind the ice cream cone which doesn't go unnoticed by the redhead who bursts out laughing.
"I hate you," you mutter into your shirt sleeve at a poor attempt of hiding your flushed cheeks. She wiggles her eyebrows at you, wrapping an arm around your shoulder which you shrug off almost instantly.
"You know you love me."

Your nights are plagued with visions of the fiery haired girl with eyes as green as the forest, a smile as bright and white as the snow.
Could it be? No. You hate her. Right? Yes. Without a doubt.
You sigh, flipping your pillow back over in an attempt to go back to sleep.

When Natasha asks you out, you want to throw up. Your heart throbs as you watch her hopeful expression, proffering the bouquet of orchids to you.
The way her smile falls when you say 'no' nearly breaks your heart. Nearly. She gives you a small, sad smile, getting back up and walking away but not before promising you that she wouldn't give up.
"I hate you."
"No you don't."
"Yes I do."
"You know you love me."
You beg her not to but she turns a deaf ear to your pleas, kissing the palm of your hand before leaving.

4 times.
It takes 4 more tries before your dams finally break and you agree. She jumps up, whooping for joy. You shriek as she picks you up, spinning you round and round.
You'll never forget the smile on her face as she stares into your eyes breathlessly before glancing down at your lips nervously. Giving her a slight, subtle nod, she surges forward, capturing your lips with hers.
You sigh, leaning into her hold as the icy walls around your heart melt under her love.
As long as you had her, you felt like you could take on anything.

The next few weeks felt like a dream. A moment stolen from someone else's life.
The happiness is never ending, like a never ending tunnel full of love and hope for the future.
But deep down inside, a dark feeling tugs at your gut.
It won't last.
She won't be here forever.
Shut up, you think and the monster quiets down, delving back down into the darkest parts of your mind.
"You okay?" Natasha asks, noticing your sickly appearance.
"I'm fine." You smile queasily at her. She opens her mouth as if to protest but after a firm smile, she closes it, wrapping her arms around you and returning her attention to the movie.
You relax at the reassuring touch.
Even if it does have to end, you'll at least have the memories.
Hearts are meant to be broken in the end.

Natasha's fading away.
Slowly but surely.
The cheeky, smug girl you'd met years before was gone, replaced by a shell of her former self.
Everyday she'd wake up, pour herself a cup of coffee, down it and leave the house for work. All before you wake up.
You never confront her.
Always hoping that the next day will be different, that maybe she'll return to her chipper self.
The cycle is painful, watching as she comes home, collapsing on the couch and flicking the TV on. The bright screen illuminates her pale face. Her once vibrant green eyes, full of life are now dull, replaced by an emptiness that scares you.
You shake off the feeling, returning your attention to the dishes in the sink.

"You know, when we first met, you always told me-" she chokes, blood spilling forth from her lips. "You told me that you hated me. I didn't believe it." You sob, attempting to staunch the gaping hold above her heart, the knife lying at her side.
"Please, no."
"I hate myself." You sob even harder at that, abandoning any attempts to stop her from bleeding out, caressing her face.
"That's not true."
"It is. I know you've noticed it. And I'm sorry." She wipes the tears from your face, her hands shaking. "You deserve so much more than a person like me. Someone whole. Not broken."
"No, you're not broken, you-" you stammer, your brain failing to find an answer. "You just need some help." She lets out a pained laugh.
"Be free. Don't worry about me. This is a gift." Her eyes flutter shut for a moment before returning, even more pained then before. "Remember I love you okay? Live for me."
"Okay. I will." You sob uncontrollably, burying your face into her neck.
"It's okay. It's okay." She shushes you quietly. Her voice dies and you look up. Her eyes are wide open, empty, void of anything. You grab her by the shoulders, shaking her frantically.
"No no no no!" You press your lips to her bloodstained ones, attempting and failing to steal one last kiss from her. "No..."

"Hi Nat. It's been a while huh?" You chuckle weakly, kneeling down in the dirt. "I've been arguing with myself lately. Internal struggle, whatnot. And I've come to the the conclusion that you're right." You inhale sharply. "You know that I love you." A small tear rolls down your cheek, landing in the soil.
The words echo throughout the empty lot of land.
You know that I love you.
Pressing one last, lingering kiss to the cold headstone, you pick yourself up and walk towards your car, glancing back at the grave and waving one last time as if expecting to see Natasha standing there, waving back at you.

"And I guess that's about it." You say as you finish telling Agatha about your last few weeks. She smiles as she shakes her head.
"I have to say I am proud of you." She comments gesturing briefly with her hands. "Are you sure you don't want to add anything else?"
You shrug, unable to remember anything relevant that you haven't mentioned.
You told her about writing again, about trying to drive again. About helping Wanda to stay home without having panic attacks, and to go back to work. You had only managed to drive in the supermarket parking lot, but it was still progress, and Stephen was very happy to hear it about too. The only thing missing to get your life back to normal was your apartment. And you had already arranged with Wanda to visit later that week.
"I have two questions for you then." Agatha says when you confirm that you have nothing to add. "Don't you think it's time to try to reconnect with your friends?"
You hesitate, thoughtfully. 
"I don't know." You said slightly uncomfortable. "My friends weren't just mine. They were Nat's friends too. And then she died, and I isolated myself. And well, I guess they were in their own grief too, because none of them tried to look for me anymore."
"You took your time to heal." She says. "Maybe they took theirs too. And now might be the time to reconnect."
You sigh, looking away.
"Yeah, I'll think about it." You speak. You look back at Agatha a moment later. "What was the other question?"
Agatha hides a small smile.
"A sensitive topic for patients who lose their beloved lovers." She says and you frown in confusion. "Well, dear, I need to ask if you are trying to date again?"
You gasp in surprise, feeling your face heat up.
"W-what?"
Agatha lets out a giggle.
"I know this may seem insensitive at first, and that's more because of the sexist socioeconomic construct that treats widowed women as violated property that must belong to their lover for the rest of their lives than anything else but I need you to understand that it's perfectly natural to move on." She narrates and you just stand there with a shocked expression and your heart racing. "You are a single woman now, and you have sexual and emotional human needs. I'm going to help you work through any kind of guilt, because judging your progress, you seem ready to be in a relationship again."
"I...I don't..."
"Don't worry, honey." Agatha interrupts with a giggle. "I'm not telling you to go around fornicating." She jokes. "Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course. But I don't think it's really your style at all."
You feel your face heat up, frowning at Agatha, but she continues to speak.
"Anyway, I'm saying that it will be good if you get back into romantic relationships with other people. Casual encounters, that sort of thing. You are allowed to love someone again, there's nothing wrong with that." She explains getting up toward her own desk, and then gives a mischievous little smile in your direction. "Not to mention that orgasms are great stress relievers."
You choke in surprise, but Agatha just smiles, turning to write the appointment report.
Your face is still very red when you leave her office.

"I'm going to make a gardener out of you yet, huh?" Monica joked as you finished composting, making you laugh lightly.
"Well, I had a good teacher." You joked back as you stood up.
You were at Wanda's flower shop again. It became routine for you to help Monica with the garden and the flowers. And as the days went by, you got used to being in the greenhouses while she was attending to customers and Wanda was working in the office. It took two weeks for Monica to start joking that you had become a staff member at the flower shop. You don't really mind helping out. Botany has turned out to be something surprisingly relaxing for you. The hours of Wanda's shift passed by quickly when you keep your hands busy with the plants and flowers, your anxiety long forgotten.
"Are you hungry?" Monica asks as soon as you return to the store's front desk, and she pulls out the " break" sign tucked under the counter. 
"Sure."
"Let's take a lunch break. See if Wanda wants to join us while I attend that boy." Monica says looking forward toward the window display. There is a boy clearly unsure about whether or not to enter the store and you exchange a chuckle with her before heading towards Wanda's office.
She is on the phone when she answers the door for you, and signals with her finger in her mouth for you not to say anything as she makes room for you to enter. As she mumbles in agreement on the call, you look around. She seems to be working on the organization of some big event judging by the whiteboard in the corner filled with notes, and you figure it's a party or some wedding, because you and Monica have been growing more flowers for this kind of thing lately.
"That sounds pretty good, actually." You listen to her speak as she jots down a few things in an agenda. " Don't worry, we have enough for the engagement party and the ceremony." 
The shelf on the side in front of the whiteboard catches your attention, and you walk over to the furniture next.
Wanda moves a little behind you, adding some stickers to the whiteboard. You keep looking at the bookshelf, distracted by the objects on it. There is a picture of the twins that makes you smile, some books, and other small pots of plants. You lightly caress the bonsai before looking down.
You run your fingers over the red flower on Wanda's bookshelf, trying to remember the name. Monica has taught you many things, but you don't know many as well.
"Anthurium" Wanda whispers behind you, as she turns off her cell phone and realizes that you are looking at the flower with curiosity. You murmur in understanding, turning to make comment that it is very beautiful, but your speech dies in your throat when you realize how close Wanda is. "What did you want?" She asks curiously and you are almost leaning your body against the bookshelf, trying to think clearly.
"I-I came to ask if you want to have lunch with us." You say while mentally telling yourself not to look at Wanda's lips.
Wanda murmurs in understanding, and you can barely breathe when she stands even closer, her hand outstretched to something above your head. She pulls out a small stick caught in your hair, and all you can do is stare at her with a racing heart as she bites back a smile, and tosses the stick into one of the vases on the shelf behind you.
"I'd like to join you, but I'm busy." She says and her gaze falls to your lips for a second before she turns her head away and walks off. You let out a breath, wiping your sweaty hands on your pants as Wanda walks toward the table in search of the notepad and pen she was using before hanging up her cell phone. "Can you please bring me something to eat? I'm starving. I just don't know exactly what I want..."
You smile as you see Wanda's thoughtful expression with pen and notebook in hand. You approach, putting the notebook down with your hand gently.
"Don't worry, I know what you like." You say simply, and Wanda blinks in surprise, smiling awkwardly. "I'll stop by that confectionery shop you like and also bring you a dessert, okay? You look stressed."
Wanda laughs lightly, her cheeks flushed. 
"Thanks, love."
The nickname slips so naturally from her lips that it takes a moment for both of you to realize what has just been said. Your gaze falls to Wanda's mouth the same minute that her pupils dilate. You are almost breaking the distance when Monica opens the door, not noticing the closeness of the two of you because she has her gaze on a piece of paper in her own hands.
You and Wanda immediately turn away, embarrassed.
"We have a big order, girls." She announces excitedly, raising her eyes to you. Monica frowns slightly at the guilty expressions and reddened faces. "Sorry, did I interrupt something?"
"No." You answer in unison quickly, surprising Monica again, who acquires an expression of suspicion and humor. You clear your throat and Wanda lets out a short laugh.
"We were just talking about lunch." You say. "And well, Wanda has a big order too. I guess you guys will need my help then."
Wanda turns to you again with this statement.
"What? No, I can't make you work for me..."
You interrupt with a laugh.
"Wanda, don't even start." You say. "I love staying here. And I'm happy to help, really. Don't worry about it."
"You sure make my shifts more fun." Adds Monica with a smile, making you laugh. Wanda looks at you intently.
"Are you sure?" She asks, and you smile as you nod in agreement. "We'll talk about it later. You can't work for free, and if you're going to help you need a schedule, and breaks and chores."
You laugh, nodding.
"Yes, boss." You murmur playfully and Wanda pats your arm, making you and Monica laugh. 
"Let's get our lunch now, I'm starving." Monica orders as she turns to walk out the door. You murmur in agreement, and quickly kiss Wanda on the cheek before following the other woman. Wanda has a foolish smile on her face until you return with her lunch many minutes later.

You call Carol Danvers the day before you return to your apartment.
Things go much better than you expected, but it's not surprising, because you usually expect the worst case scenario. 
Carol is very happy to hear from you, and you are happy to know that she doesn't hate you for not calling before. You talk for a few minutes, but she can't talk much on the phone because her shift is about to start. You are surprised to learn that she is working in a nightclub downtown now, unlike months ago when she worked in a rock bar in Queens. 
 She tells you that Bruce was traveling because of his internship, but that he would be in town for the weekend, and invites you to visit her at work. You hesitate because you are not sure if you are ready to go to a club, but you accept as you think of Agatha's words about reconnecting with your friends again.
You are the one who drives to your apartment the next day, after you and Wanda leave the flower shop. Your heart is racing the whole time, but Wanda rests her hand on your thigh to calm you down, and as the minutes go by, you can no longer tell whether you are nervous about the trauma or something else.
Parking in the small condo cluster, you take a deep breath. Wanda gives your thigh one last squeeze before she pulls her hand away and gets out of the car, completely oblivious to the way your entire body trembles at her touch. Shaking your head slightly to push that kind of thought away, you step out of the car.
Your hands are shaking wildly as you take your keys out of your pockets, just as you reach the second floor, after you have politely waved to the people who recognized you on the way to your apartment. 
"Hey, breathe." Wanda asks softly beside you. And you take a deep breath, and it helps. And then you turn the key, and go inside.
It is exactly the same as the last time you were here, many months ago, on the day of the accident.
Your mother cleaned it up, of course, but it is still the same. Everything is in the exact same place, even the shoes that Nat left lying in the corner of the bookshelf. And you felt your chest tighten when the flashes of memory began.
You walked around, looking at the surroundings while Wanda followed you. A few tears streamed down your face, but you said nothing.
You were in the kitchen when the first sob escaped your throat. Leaning your hands on the counter, you dropped your keys and tried to push away the memories that were clear in your head.
It was as if you could feel Nat in the room. Seeing her in the armchair, laughing at your jokes, or being a disaster in the kitchen on nights when you tried to eat something homemade. Her books mixed in with yours on the bookshelf, your wedding and graduation pictures on the mantelpiece. 
You moved away from the counter quickly, however, as Wanda looked at you intently, unsure whether to approach or not. Walking down the hallway, you stopped in front of your bedroom door. 
And you stood there. Long minutes staring at the wood. Unable to move.
Feeling arms around your waist, you sighed, your body relaxing considerably.
Wanda hugged you from behind, and waited. You were crying again, and you only stopped after a while. Taking a deep breath, and lightly stroking Wanda's hand to ask her to let go, you waited for her to let go of you to open the door.
Wanda waited for you outside. You just walked around the room, your face wet as you breathed with difficulty, your arms crossed as if you were afraid to touch anything.
When you came out, you took a deep breath once more. And then you said you needed to call your mother.
That's how you spent the rest of the day packing up your apartment together with Wanda, your mother, and Pietro and Monica, who came to help after Wanda said you needed more people.
You came back the other day too, until the only things left were larger pieces of furniture.
"Are you sure you're going to sell?" Your mother asked you in the parking lot as soon as you left there in the late afternoon. Wanda had just gone home with her brother and sister-in-law.
"That was her apartment, Mom." You say as you put the boxes in the trunk. "I could never live here without Natasha."
"It's a good property." She comments, making you chuckle lightly.
"I'm sure the next owners will love it."
"I don't mean to be disrespectful, dear. It's just a nice apartment, not the kind of thing you get every day and..."
"Are you wanting to keep it by any chance?" You interrupt, irritated at your mother's lack of sensitivity. She sighs, and you frown.
"No. But maybe someone else wants to."
It takes a moment for you to understand what she is implying.
"You know Nat didn't talk to her family."
Your mother looks away.
"Actually..." She begins and you close the trunk with a confused expression, "I've been seeing Melina since January."
You blink in surprise, and then let out a dry laugh.
"I am speechless." You say in shock. "You...are you serious? Wow, I...wow."
You lean back against the car, impressed and annoyed. Your mother sighs guiltily, stepping in front of you again.
"Look, I know I should have had something, but you were so..."
"Sad? Yeah mom, my wife died, I had a right to be."
"That's not what I meant."
You sighed, rolling your eyes.
"Yeah, I know." You grumble. "But it sucks that you kept it from me. What the hell does Melina want anyway?"
Your mother looks away for a moment.
"She wanted to see you actually." She says and you let out a wry laugh. "I know how ridiculous it sounds, but her daughter died and you were the only remaining connection to Natasha."
You push your fingers against your forehead lightly, thinking you are starting to get a migraine from this conversation. 
"You know what, Mom?" You say. "Since you two have become such good friends lately, tell her that her chance to connect with me was lost the moment she didn't attend the funeral." 
Your mother sighs, but you are already turning to get into the car. She follows you a moment later, sitting in the passenger seat.
You drive in silence back home.

Over the weekend, you almost canceled your plans with Carol.
Your mother was giving you the silent treatment for the way you refused to talk about Natasha and Melina, and you were very irritated by the whole situation.
Grumbling about how ridiculous it all was, you agreed to have coffee with the two women the following week, and your mother's mood changed considerably, the complete opposite of what happened to you.
But you forced yourself to smile, and got up from the couch to get ready.
Around seven-thirty at night, you arrived at the place, which was already very busy, neon lights peeking through the windows along with the loud music. 
"My goodness, look at you!" Greeted Carol cheerfully as soon as you met her at the counter. She turned around to hug you tight, and you felt your chest swell with happiness. You had missed your friend so much.
"You got a haircut" You comment in the same excitement, smiling at her. "I missed you, Danvers."
She smiles, mumbling that she missed you too. She asked you to sit on one of the stools at the front of the bar, and you did so while she went back behind the counter.
You updated each other a bit as she served some customers, and a while later, Bruce arrived.
"Banner I can't believe you are wearing a suit in a nightclub." Carol teased as she greeted her friend, making you chuckle slightly as Bruce explained that he didn't have time to look more casual.
"It's good to see you." He said to you as he hugged you, you repeated the words, then sat at the bar.
A few drinks and laughs later, Carol's shift ended, and she sat at a table with you two.
Between telling your friends about your progress in therapy, and hearing how Carol had left her previous job after punching a slacker client in the face, and learning that Bruce was working as an aspiring scientist, and lecturing around the country, the three of you had enough beers for the direction of the conversation to make your cheeks flush.
"I swear to you, she was the most beautiful woman I have ever seen!" Carol told you, making you and Bruce laugh at her excitement. 
"Now you're going to say that the next second you saw the next most beautiful woman in the world?" You teased wryly, and Carol laughed as she told you to shut up. "Are you even dating this Gamora girl?"
Carol hid a smirk, taking a sip of her beer.
"Actually." She began. "We're living together."
You widened your eyes in surprise, and then laughed.
"My god, Carol Danvers in love!" You teased making her laugh as she flashed you her middle finger. "No, but seriously, that's amazing! I'm happy for you, Carol."
"Yes, yes." She says smiling, "But what about you? I know you and Nat were like, madly in love or whatever cheesy stuff you put in your books, but it's been months. It would be nice if you met someone new."
The topic is quite sensitive, and the mood at the table changes because of it. But you are far more embarrassed than upset, and you lower your gaze to your bottle before answering.
" Oh, well, i..." You begin half-heartedly. Your stomach does a flip-flop, because you are thinking of a person. "There is someone, I think. But I don't know if we're both ready to take that on yet."
Carol makes an agreeing noise with her mouth, and then has an insinuating little smile on her face.
"Do you still remember how to be with a girl, champ?" your friend teases, and you nudge her shoulder shyly as she and Bruce laugh.
"Aren't those things like riding a bike?" The other man asked timidly, getting a wry look from Carol.
"You know, Bruce, your innocence is admirable." Carol teases making you laugh. 
"Don't be mean." You say poking her lightly in the ribs, but Bruce doesn't really care. It's been that way since college when he told you guys he was asexual. The whole thing was funny because Carol has always been very, very sexual. And they have been teasing each other about it for years.
"Ah but I won't be, I promise." She assures. "Actually, I'm much more interested in hearing about your new girlfriend."
You laugh shyly, drinking some of your beer.
"I don't have a girlfriend."
Carol laughed, her gaze running around the room before returning to you. 
"Well, that blonde girl has been looking over here for a few moments. I have a girlfriend, and Bruce doesn't like sex. I guess you're the one who's going to have to talk to her."
You widened your eyes at your friend's words, looking forward quickly.
A blond woman was indeed staring at your table.
"I don't think that's a good idea." You mumble clumsily, and Carol gives a little laugh.
"That's too bad, because now that you've looked, she's going to come here." Your friend warns, and you choke on your beer when you see the girl actually getting up from the countertop.
"Carol, help me." You awkwardly whisper but your friend just laughs, and then the stranger catches up with you all.
"Hi." She greets sensually, looking up at you. You swallow dryly as your friend holds back a giggle. "Would you like to dance?"
"I-I..."
"Use your words." Carol teased lowly next to you, making the girl laugh at your clumsiness. 
"Don't be shy, I don't bite." The girl added maliciously. " Unless you ask me to."
You feel your face heat up with embarrassment, and you spread your mouth open, not knowing what to say next. Carol murmurs impressed.
"Sorry, sweetie, she used to function better than that." Carol interrupts the interaction, taking pity on your distress. "I think she's taken. But if it's just a dance, we can all enjoy it together."
The girl bites her lips, seeming to consider. She takes one last look at you, and then accepts the invitation.
This is how you end up on a dance floor, trying to escape the hands of a stranger. 
You remember how to dance, and the drink helps a lot. But there are hands running over your body before the woman turns around and starts rubbing against you in rhythm with the music. You feel your breath catch, the excitement of having so much intimate contact after so long reaching you completely.
"Are you sure you're taken?" She whispers against your ear, and you give a short laugh, feeling your head spin.
"Yes."  You half-heartedly assure her, using all the rest of your drunken control to push her hands away from you. 
The woman didn't mind, stealing a short kiss on your cheek before dancing away, swaying her hips.
Carol threw her arms around you next.
"Wow, you really are in love!" She enthusiastically shouts to be heard between the beats of the music. You laugh with flushed cheeks, saying you need to take some air.
Your friend continues to dance, pulling Bruce close, and the man laughs awkwardly as he puts his arms around the blonde. You chuckle at the scene before turning to go outdoors.
It is easier to breathe outside. 
Your first action is to take your cell phone out of your pocket, and check your notifications. Your heart melts when you open a message from Wanda. It is a picture of her and the boys, lying together between a comforter. The caption reads "movie night, doesn't even look like they were jumping on the couch two minutes ago".
You stare at the picture for a few seconds after sending a heart emoji to Wanda. And then you gasp softly, realizing. You really are in love with her. Like in romance movies, and fairy tale books. But also like the real thing. Because you love Wanda's company, her sharp jokes, the way she talks and behaves and cares for everyone. You don't want to be in a bar, or meet another girl. You want to be wrapped in a comforter with Wanda and the kids.
Trying not to panic at this conclusion, you put your cell phone back in your pocket, deciding to go back inside to say goodbye to your friends.

You are trying to find a way to tell Wanda how you feel. The problem is that you are insecure, because you have no idea if she is ready for a relationship again. You don't even know if she likes women.
With so much suffering in the past months, you also don't want to face a broken heart. So you decide to wait and see how things will turn out.
It is something about the way your life is completely intertwined in Wanda's now, in the same way that she has wrapped herself around your heart that makes you sigh when you think about it everything.
You are distracted while you work, and Monica smiles because you have a smirk while tinkering in the gardens, which is clearly not related to the plants. She doesn't say anything, because it's the same way Wanda smiles when you bring her coffee, or when you two come back from lunch. She can only be excited to think how it will be to organize your wedding.
It is at lunch after group therapy that Wanda invites you to her father's wedding anniversary party. You hadn't met him yet, and a party was a good thing, because you wouldn't have all his attention on you, and it lessens your anxiety considerably.
The party will be at Wanda's father's country house, and you will be able to cross the "take a trip" goal off your therapy to-do list.
In the meantime, you prepare to see Natasha's mother.
It is a Thursday, and you set aside your lunch period for this, because you really don't want this meeting to last more than an hour.
Your mother and Melina are already in the restaurant when you arrive, and you nod politely to the woman when you sit down at the table, signaling that she doesn't need to get up.
"So, what did you want?" you ask snidely, earning a scolding from your mother. Melina doesn't seem to mind your aggressiveness however.
"Let's order something to eat first please." Your mother says before the other woman can respond. You roll your eyes, not disagreeing.
After the waitress takes your orders and leaves, you cross your arms impatiently.
"Look, I know it's hard for you to hear from me after all this time..." The woman begins.
"Hard for me?" You cut her off with irony. "No, Melina. I was not the daughter you abandoned. It was just hard for Nat not to have you around. I simply don't like you myself."
"Honey" Your mother warns, but you let out a dry laugh.
"No, really." You continue firmly. "What do you really want with me?"
Melina sighs, straightening herself in her chair.
"Your mother told me that you intend to sell Natasha's apartment." She says. "I don't approve of such a decision."
You stare at her for a moment, and then let out a laugh.
"I should have known you'd only show up for the money." You say feeling your stomach turn with anger. Melina rolls her eyes, but doesn't deny it. Your mother looks surprised that you are right.
"I gave that apartment to Natasha..."
" I beg your pardon?" you interrupt angrily, your loud tone attracting the attention of the next table. "You gave her the apartment? Are you listening to yourself now?"
"We don't need to get carried away." She asked with irritation in her eyes, drawing a nasal laugh of indignation from you. "You know I'm right."
"No, Melina." You retort seriously, lowering your tone. "Clarify for me how you can possibly think that putting an apartment full of debt in your daughter's name to escape the state, making her work two shifts to pay for everything, sets up like giving an apartment to someone?"
"You are manipulating the facts." She hits back and you nod in disbelief, closing your eyes momentarily. "I had financial problems, and Nat didn't object when I suggested..."
"She was 15." You cut in. "You forgot that little detail right? You also forgot about going to the guardianship board to emancipate your 15 year old daughter just so she could take on a debt of yours?" You asked angrily. "Oh, did you forget about Nat working in a diner throughout her teenage years to pay for everything?"
Melina clenched her jaw, glaring at you angrily. You really weren't in the least bit of patience for this conversation, and it was a good thing the waitress arrived with your orders, because you were about to turn the table.
"I am not hungry anymore." You grumble as soon as the waitress leaves and you look down at your food, your stomach turning. Then you look forward. "When I sell the apartment, I will talk to your lawyer and if you are entitled to anything, you can rest assured that it will come in the mail. Now do me a favor, and never look for me again." 
After saying these words to Melina, you exchange a quick glance with your mother and get up, walking to the exit.

You are pretty upset about the whole Melina thing, but your mood improves almost immediately when Wanda invites you to visit her. 
Actually, she needs help with the kids, because she's busy with a rich lady's wedding that required priority on the flower project, and the summer vacation started that week.
Monica was helping Wanda with the whole design, so you and Pietro would take care of the kids.
It was quite fun to do it, because you loved children. Pietro even had the bright idea of setting up a little lemonade stand outside Wanda's house, and while the other women were working, you and he took the kids outdoors.
"Don't you think a million dollars is a lot of money for a glass of lemonade, Billy?" you ask the boy as you watch him put several zeros on the price cardboard. Pietro laughs as he helps his daughter pin up her hair.
"I don't know." The kid tells you without stopping drawing. "I'm a kid, I've never paid anything."
You laugh, looking forward. You and Pietro are sitting on chairs placed on the grass while the children play around the lemonade stand. 
When some of the neighbors buy the lemonade, you tell Billy that a gold coin is worth a million, and he doesn't argue.
The temperature rises considerably throughout the day, and around two in the afternoon you and Pietro decide that it would be good to take the kids swimming.
"Call the wives please." Pietro says to you as you stand in the living room after you two walk back in and put everything away, and he is helping the children put on bathing suits. You feel your face heat up at the innocent insinuation of Wanda being your wife, but you say nothing and he doesn't even seem to notice.
You knock on the door, then enter the office, and smile at the two women inside, who seemed to be concentrating on their own papers.
"Let's go for a quick swim girls?" You ask, ignoring the way your stomach gets butterflies when Wanda looks up at you. 
Monica lets out an excited exclamation.
"Yes, please!" She says. "This room feels like an oven!"
You and Wanda laugh, and you make room for Monica to walk past you. 
"Any chance you have a bathing suit in my size?" You ask Wanda next, and she bites back a smile, thoughtful.
"Let 's find out."

It is only upstairs that you realize that you have never been in Wanda's bedroom before.
All the times you have been here, you were reserved for the living room, the kitchen and the office. Except for the times you were in the twins' bedroom, and well, when you used the bathroom.
You stood still a bit past the entrance, not knowing exactly what to do with your hands as Wanda searched the closets for a bathing suit for you.
"You know you can look around right?" Wanda commented with playfulness in her speech, making you chuckle shyly.
Stepping forward, you twiddled your fingers together nervously as you looked around. You smiled at the decorations, and especially at the pictures on the dresser. 
"Damn, I think I only have one pair." Wanda grumbled as she closed the closet, turning to you next, a swimsuit in her hands. "Do you want to wear it?"
You smiled wryly.
"Not if it's the only one you have." You say. "Don't worry, I'll keep my T-shirt on."
"Don't be silly, it's really hot outside. I'll lend you a bra." 
Wanda leaves her swimsuit on the bed and walks over to the dresser behind you. You step aside to give her room to open the drawers.
You look quickly away from the underwear drawer, feeling your heart race at the intimacy of this moment. It only gets worse when Wanda hands you a black sports top, which she is glad to have found.
"Thank you, Wands." You mutter as you accept the garment. 
You widen your eyes as Wanda begins to unbutton the shirt she is wearing, but before you have a heart attack, she flashes you a small smile and picks up the swimsuit from the bed, turning toward the bathroom as she uses her free hand to keep the shirt closed.
You take advantage of Wanda's exit to quickly take your shirt off, put on the top and then the T-shirt over it.
A moment later she returns, and your breath catches in your throat.
"This swimsuit has a tie in the back, can you help me with that?" Wanda asks distractedly as she tucks her hair into a bun. You swallow dryly, trying to keep your gaze off her exposed legs. 
Wanda stands facing the dresser, watching you approach through the mirror. You ignore your uncompensated heartbeat as you stare back at her, and let out a shy smile as you lower your gaze when you notice her flushed cheeks as you stand right behind her.
Raising your fingers to the height of her back, you gently touch the skin exposed by the opening of her swimsuit. The contact makes every inch of the woman's skin shiver in front of you, and she sighs softly, the sound making your stomach turn.
You risk looking forward again, at your reflection, only to find Wanda's mouth ajar, her eyes dark. You risk dragging your fingers further inside the fabric, making her choke lightly.
Completely mesmerized by the way Wanda's body responds to your touch, you raise your other hand, trailing a finger up from the length of her coccyx to the opening of her swimsuit, watching Wanda close her fists as her cheeks redden.
You can hear the sounds of her uncompensated breathing, but you can also hear the muffled laughter from the distance downstairs, and that motivates you enough to ignore the trembling of your fingers as you zip up Wanda's swimsuit.
"W-we should go downstairs." You whisper in a hoarse voice, ignoring the urge to rip off Wanda's swimsuit. 
The redhead swallows dryly before slowly turning toward you. Your faces are so close that you can feel her breath on your cheek.
"I..."
"Mommy why are you taking so long?" Billy's muffled scream coming from the backyard through the window makes you and Wanda jump in fright. 
Pietro and Tommy repeat the same sentence next, and you clear your throat, taking a step back. Wanda can't keep her gaze on you as you both walk down to the pool outside.
You can only distract yourself from the feel of Wanda's skin on your fingers because you play in the pool with everyone, and these thoughts are pushed to the back of your mind for the rest of the afternoon.
It is only when you have to leave, after the children have had a bath, and are dressed in comfortable clothes in front of the television, and you have hugged Monica and Pietro goodbye that these thoughts come flooding back when you have to repeat the gesture with Wanda.
You disguise yourself, smiling politely at the couple standing behind the redhead as you let your arms circle her waist as you hug her. Resisting the urge to close your eyes and sink your face into Wanda's neck, who has her hands on your shoulders, you hold back a sigh as you pull away.
"See you on Monday." You murmur in a husky voice, and the redhead nods, her gaze falling quickly to your lips.
You think you'd better get in the car before you lose control of your body.

Startled slightly, you opened your eyes with difficulty. Someone was calling you, but it must have been very late, because you couldn't see anything in the room but the blinking light on your dresser.
Grumbling, you stretched your arm out to reach for your vibrating cell phone and answer the call.
"Hello?" you asked in a voice hoarse from sleep, closing your eyes again.
"Hey, sorry to wake you." It was Wanda, and her whiny voice made you open your eyes quickly, worried. 
"Wanda? Did something happen?"
"Yeah." She agrees, sniffling softly. "I just... I'm so sad. The whole fucking time. Then Tony came over and started saying these things and now I'm crying and I can't stop. I'm sorry, it's not your problem, I shouldn't have called and..."
"I'm coming."
You think Wanda tried to say something to stop you, but you ended the call as you stood up.
"Where are you going?" Your mother asked as soon as you came downstairs, and you were startled to find her awake, but you didn't ask as you noticed the laptop in your lap.
"Wanda." You mumble simply, looking for your keys.
"Kitchen countertop." She informed and you muttered a thank you as you picked up the item from the mentioned spot. "You know, if you're going to start leaving the house at dawn to see her, it might be best to move in with her."
You chuckled awkwardly at the comment as you put on your shoes.
"Try to get some sleep, work will still be there in the morning." You tell her to change the subject, and your mother sighs, turning her attention back to the screen. "You don't have to wait up for me."
"Oh, I figured." She teases last making you roll your eyes in embarrassment before opening the door to leave.

You didn't have to knock on the door, because as soon as you parked the car and got out, you had a view of the outside garden porch, and you could see Wanda sitting on the rocking bench, looking at the ground.
You sighed, opening the garden gate to enter the backyard.
Making a noise with your feet so as not to startle her, you felt your heart squeeze as she wiped her tears away quickly, turning her head to the side. You sighed, taking a seat on the bench in front of her, rocking it slightly.
"Do you want to talk about it?" You asked a moment later, and from the redhead's silence, you figured not. But she nodded next, looking down at her own feet. "Tell me what happened then."
It takes a moment, but Wanda speaks. She tells how Tony Stark showed up at her door at three in the morning, saying that he blamed himself for his brother death but that this was a good thing now because it was exactly what he needed to change his life and stop drinking, and that she punched him in the nose, saying that this was always his problem, everything was always about him. Tony promised that he would be someone decent now, that he was going to change, and Wanda just pushed him away, telling him to go change somewhere else.
"I feel like the worst person in the world right now." She grumbles as soon as she finishes narrating. 
"Why?"
"Tony has been an alcoholic since he was fifteen, and he's finally getting better. I think he was in need of someone to help him."
You shook your head, letting out a short laugh.
"And why is that your problem?" you retorted, surprising her. "Wanda you are under no obligation to suppress your feelings to make others feel better. You have every right to feel angry with Tony. And to not want him in your life again."
Wanda takes a deep breath, burying her face in her hands for a moment, as if trying to believe your words.
You bit the inside of your cheek, deciding whether to speak what you wanted to.
"Wands?" You called after her, and she looked at you. "You said you were sad. Do you want to talk about that too?"
The redhead looks away from you, a weak smile on her lips. 
"I don't know how to talk about it really." She starts by looking down at her feet. "I never did."
You wait, stretching your leg out and lightly tapping your feet together with her on the floor. Wanda smiles at the movement, and then bites her lips.
"I think it started when I was a kid." She counters thoughtfully, her gaze straying to the yard around her. "Ever since mama died, or maybe before. There's this sadness, stuck in my chest. And no matter what I do, it won't go away." 
You listen intently, waiting for Wanda to finish.
"When I was younger, Papa worked all day and Mama took care of me and Pietro. But she got sick, and granny came to live with us to help. I was ten when she died, and Pietro's anxiety got worse." She swallows dryly, as if the memories are choking her. "Granny didn't know how to help my brother, so I took care of him myself. And when we were in high school, she got sick too. And well, Dad didn't know what to do really, so I took care of her at home while he and Pietro worked to pay for the medications." She adds, and sniffles lightly. "I just remember being tired. All the damn time. I'd go to school, and come home, and I'd eat, and play, and watch TV, but I wasn't really there. I started to think that's how everybody else felt, because I had a normal life, and I had no reason to feel sad."
You frown slightly, but bite your tongue to keep from interrupting.
"Grandma died just before I graduated, and I barely had time to miss her, busy with college applications, and taking care of the funeral at the same time." She counters with a wry laugh, as if realizing how unfair it was that she was left to take care of everything by herself. "And then I met Vis, and he was sweet and kind and he was everything anyone could want. The perfect boyfriend, perfect friend, and brother and husband. So I choked down that sadness, because it wasn't fair that I was with someone so amazing, and I wasn't satisfied." She recounts as she lets the tears flow. "When the twins came, everyone told me that my life was complete. That children were exactly what everyone wanted, and that I had the perfect life. So I kept that image."
Wanda raises her hand to wipe away a tear that ran down her cheek, but others kept falling next.
 "With Vis's death, everything started to fall apart on me." She says after a pause, biting her lips slightly to hold back the crying. She lets out a nasal laugh next. "But I wasn't going to let that happen, so I gathered the pieces together. I put a smile on my face and continued to be the mother my children needed. And then I met you."
You frown in confusion, but Wanda does not look at you. She runs her hands through her hair, shaking her head slightly.
"You came into my life at its worst possible moment. And all you did was make me feel better again." Wanda declared with a sigh, and you felt your cheeks heat up, looking away to your feet. "You don't expect me to be happy, or polite, or sociable. You don't care that I get cranky and irritable, that I wanted to skip work or eat junk food." She counters, wiping a tear from her cheek. "I feel like I can breathe again, because when you look at me you don't judge me like everyone else. You just listen, and observe. And take care of me."
You sigh, impacted by the intensity of the confessions. You think that if you keep quiet long enough, Wanda can hear your heart beating fast.
The redhead takes a deep breath, twisting her fingers slightly before speaking again.
"That's why I called." She counters in a sigh. Her eyes fill with tears again, but she doesn't let them fall. "You've been the only person who makes me feel this way. And when Tony came along I felt I was drowning into those terrible thoughts again. I needed you to pull me back up."
You raise your head to Wanda, but she is looking down at the floor, her cheeks flushed. You smile, rising to sit beside her.
"I will." You whisper as you interlace your fingers, looking forward. Wanda stares at your entwined hands before leaning her head on your shoulder.
"Thank you." She murmurs a moment later. 
"Don't mention it." You reply in the same tone.
You stand like this for many minutes, Wanda wiggling your fingers together. You are about to close your eyes when a childish voice startles you a little.
"Mommy?" it's Billy, dressed in adorable teddy bear pajamas, scratching his eyes sleepily. "Why are you out here?"
Wanda looks at him in surprise. 
"Come here dear." Wanda asks signaling with her free hand for Billy to approach. The boy yawns, walking over to you two. You mess up his hair as Wanda releases her hand to sit her son on her own lap.
"Why are you here, Y/N?" The boy asks sleepily, making you and Wanda smile at how cute he looks. 
"I am a friend of your mother's, Billy, I come whenever she needs me." You reply with a smile, trying not to be affected by the way Wanda looks at you.
"You should come more often, y/n. Mom is happy when you are around." Billy declares causing Wanda to let out a surprised exclamation, and you feel your heart race.
"Oh, really?" You tease with a little smile, and Wanda pushes her shoulder against yours lightly. "I promise I'll visit more often then."
"You can live here!" Billy exclaims excitedly next, making you laugh in surprise. 
"Don't be silly, Billy." Wanda adds embarrassed. "We don't have a room."
"She can sleep with you mommy." Billy retorts as if it's obvious, "Daddy's not here anymore, and your bed is too big, because it fits Tommy and me together!"
You swallow dryly, surprised and embarrassed at the way Billy is casual above all, but mostly worried that this comparison might have hurt Wanda. But she lets out a little laugh, shaking her head.
"It's time for bed, enough of this talk" Wanda warns the boy next, getting up with him on her lap.
You accompany the two of them into the house, waiting until Wanda comes downstairs after putting Billy to bed.
Billy's words in your head were still echoing when Wanda suggested that you sleep in her bed after she came downstairs, and part of you wanted to, but you figured that night wasn't the best time. So you slept on the couch, and left after breakfast, ignoring how warm your chest felt at the image of the table with Wanda and the twins having coffee.

Your first stop after leaving Wanda's house was the cemetery.
Taking a deep breath, you stared at the memorial stone in the ground. The small photograph of Natasha carved into the stone. 
"I miss you, pchelka" You whispered softly, leaving your hands in your pockets as you looked down. Your chest hurt less than the first time you came here, but the pain was still there. You imagined that it always would be. "I won't ever stop. But I want to live again. I hope you won’t be mad at me, from wherever you are, and understand that."
Part of you knew that Natasha would be happy for you. It was one of the reasons you loved her so much.
Kneeling down, you pulled out of your pocket the items you had left in the car's glove box a few days ago, planning to do this since the day of the bar.
" This belongs to you." You whispered, after digging in the grass next to the headstone, and pulling out of the small wrapping your wedding rings. You placed the metal in the dirt, along with the daffodil seeds you brought with you. Using some of the water from the bottle you had in your hands, you watered after burying the items. "Rest in peace, my love."

Summary: Everything seems to be going alright for Wanda Maximoff, but a mission gone horribly awry makes everything crash and burn.

A/N: Alright kids, you ready for angst time? My first full out angst fic, oh boy. This ones got no happy ending guys, so do with that what you will. This takes place during Civil War, so spoilers...? I guess? I’d say Happy Reading, but I don’t think you guys will be that happy by the end of this sooo good luck!
Lagos.
That’s the place where everything in Wanda’s life fell apart. Or at least fell apart even further than it had before.
Some of the team were out on a mission. You guys finally managed to track down Rumlow and his gang after about a year of searching. Everything was going fairly well, yes there was some collateral damage, and things didn’t exactly go according to plan, but overall, it looked like you guys would come out of this with a win.
And then, it happened.
Wanda and you had begun to jog up to Steve’s location, where you saw him stare Rumlow down. Something in you just told you that this wasn’t going to go well. You looked at the scene in front of you, and then your gaze fell onto the building behind it. It was too close for comfort.
“Babe, I’m gonna go check that building.” You turned to your girlfriend. “Looks like there could be a lot of people in there, I’m gonna try to get them out.” She looked at you, and then to the building briefly. Part of her wanted to question why when the fight was happening out here, but she knew in your line of work things can be unpredictable.
She nodded. “Okay, be safe.” You nodded back with a small smile, and pecked her on the cheek.
“Always am.” With that, you ran off.
It was only about two or three minutes after you ran in when things went to hell.
Rumlow pulled a pin on his vest, and Wanda reacted as quickly as she could, capturing him mid explosion in her magic. She lifted him up, trying to get him as far away from the people below as possible, but she couldn’t hold it anymore. The explosion went off.
Blowing a huge hole into that building.
Wanda stood there, shocked for a moment over what just happened. Her hand came and slowly covered her mouth, mind going over all the damage she just caused. She vaguely heard Steve calling for fire and rescue, and then it hit her.
You were in there.
“Y/n...” She whispered, still in a state of shock, but she quickly snapped out of it and sprang into action. “Y/n!” She heard Steve yell for her to wait, but she didn’t care. She took off, flying up and landed in one of the building’s destroyed floors.
She did her best to ignore the carnage around her, carnage she caused. She pushed down the bile that was rising in her throat, and continued her search for you. 
And then she found you.
You were a super soldier, so luckily you didn’t die from the blast, she could still feel your pulse. But you didn’t look good.
You were lying on the charred floor, unconscious. Half of your suit was burned off, leaving nasty burns all on your arm and torso, some even creeping up your neck and face. Blood also dripped down from an open wound on your temple.
Wanda couldn’t bring herself to care about your appearance, though. You were still alive, and that’s the main thing she cared about right now.
“Don’t worry.” She sobbed out, hand gently caressing your unburned cheek. “You’re okay...you’re gonna be okay...” She tore her gaze away from you for a minute, and looked around. Tears falling at the sight of multiple bodies, people who weren’t as lucky as you.
People who were dead because of her.
“...I’m so sorry...”
The next week was chaos.
You were brought to the compound’s medical facility immediately, doctors working fast to try and save your life. They managed to stabilize you, now it was just a waiting game as to when you would wake up. Wanda would visit you everyday, barely being able to leave your side. Steve managed to convince her that she needed to rest, saying that you wouldn’t want to see her neglecting her needs. She hesitantly complied, and finally went to her room to sleep for the night.
The next morning, the news started reporting the incident.
And of course they blamed her.
Logically, Wanda knew this wasn’t entirely her fault. Rumlow was the one who turned himself into a bomb. She was just trying to save the lives below. That thought brought her little comfort though.
She was still responsible for the lives lost in that building. She was still responsible for you, the love of her life, being severely injured and in a coma.
Maybe they were right.
Steve didn’t let her wallow in that thought for too long though, because he shut the TV off. He sat down and gave her one of his hope speeches, and she appreciated the effort, but she didn’t want to hear it.
“It’s my fault.” She whispered. “All of those people, dead because of me...and Y/n...” She trailed off, tears forming in her eyes. Steve placed a hand on her leg, trying to comfort her.
“You know...she doesn’t blame you, I know she doesn’t.”
“Maybe she should...they all should.”
Steve couldn’t get anything else out, as Vision phased in the room and told them of the arrival of Secretary Ross.
As if things couldn’t get any worse, he had told them about the Sokovia Accords. Wanda hated the idea, forcing heroes to register with the government, essentially making them puppets for them. She knew you would hate it too, you never were one to trust the government.
“Look, we understand where you’re coming from, but if it weren’t for us, there’d be a lot more blood spilled.” Sam argued.
“Tell that to the innocent civilians in that Lagos hospital building.” Ross argued back. “Oh wait, you can’t.”
“If it weren’t for Wanda, hundreds of people in the streets below would have been killed.” Steve cut in. “If it weren’t for Y/n, hundreds of more people would have been in that building.”
“And look where that landed her.”
Wanda had enough. She shot up from her chair, and stormed out of the room.
She went straight to your hospital room, your still unconscious body covered in bandages. She pulled up a chair beside your bed, hand going to grip yours. She tried to speak, but couldn’t bring herself to form the words. So she just rested her head on your joined hands and cried.
The next few weeks saw the Avengers falling apart, divided over the accords. Wanda was especially disappointed in Natasha’s decision, given that you two were best friends. 
Wanda hasn’t left the compound. Most of her time was spent visiting you and sleeping as best she could. Your burns had begun healing, but barely. They still left pretty nasty scars. Your breathing had improved, which satisfied the doctors. They had said you could wake up any moment now, Wanda just hoped it was soon.
The next day, Wanda walked into the kitchen to find Vision cooking. She found that odd, since she knew he didn’t eat, but he explained that he was making it for her. You used to cook for her a lot, and after a few disasters, you finally got the recipe down. Vision’s was no where near as good as yours, but she appreciates the effort.
After a conversation about their powers and their fear of them, Wanda volunteered to go to the store to pick up some paprika that would greatly help the dish. Vision stopped her.
“Vision...are you not letting me leave?”
“It’s a matter of safety.”
“I can handle myself.”
Vision stopped her again. “Not yours. Mr. Stark would like to avoid the possibility of another public incident.”
Wanda looked at the synthezoid in disbelief. “I’m not an out of control time bomb. It was an accident.”
“I know. I do, but...you powers are very unpredictable. You are also...vulnerable. My scanners have indicated you are, how you say, ‘on edge’. You have been ever since Miss L/n was admitted in the medical wing.”
Wanda’s gaze turned into a harsh glare. “I know that human emotion is a foreign concept to you Vision, but trust me, if your girlfriend was ever put in a coma because of you...being ‘on edge’ is the least you would be.”
Without waiting for a response, Wanda turned around and stormed off. She headed to the one place that her feet often dragged her to the last weeks. Your bedside. 
She sat and took a hold of your hand. She stared at you for a moment before she spoke. “Hey, baby. Things have been...hard without you to say the least. Not that this wouldn’t be hard anyway, but everything is falling apart. These stupid accords are ruining everything. Tony has become a government pet, Nat joining him, Steve is off doing who knows what, and now...I’m locked in.” She paused. “You know, as much as I wish more than anything that you were awake and by my side right now...part of me is glad that you wouldn’t have to see your family fall apart like this. It’d break your heart...” She stayed for a few more moments, staring at your face and taking in your features once again. She then leaned down to kiss your hand. “I love you.” With that, she left.
Later that night, Wanda was back in the main room of the compound. You still haven’t woken up, she just learned she was essentially on house arrest, so she was trying to find ways to find ways to distract herself. She was reading a book, when she heard a loud explosion go off outside. She walked over to the window to take a look, Vision joining her a few moments later.
“What is it?”
“Stay here please.”
Wanda was left alone for a moment, before she felt a presence behind her. She quickly grabbed hold of the knife on the table, and flinging it towards the new presence. She halted it when she saw who it was.
Clint.
The next few minutes passed by like a blur. Clint was convincing her to come help Steve, Vision came back in but was trapped, Wanda hesitated and Clint gave her one of those hope speeches. She was about to decline, before he said one last thing.
“You know, if Y/n was awake...I know she’d side with Steve, and she’d only hope you’d do the same.”
Was it manipulative? Possibly, but he was also right. You would have sided with Steve, no question. Doing what you could to help. She thought on it for a few more moments, before she nodded. They were about to leave before Vision broke free. The two men fought, and before she knew it, she was sending the synthezoid several floors down and into the ground. 
She went to her room, quickly packing her suit and anything else she thought she would need. She went back out to meet Clint, about to leave, but she stopped.
“Wait! I gotta see Y/n first.” 
Clint sighed, but knew he couldn’t deny her of this. “Alright, make it quick.”
She booked it to your hospital room. You were lying there, same as you have been for a while. She quickly surged forward grabbed your hand, not bothering to sit. She knew they didn’t have time.
“Alright, baby. I’m gonna go out for a bit, okay? I’m not sure when I’ll be back, but...I’m going to do what’s right. I’m going to fight. I finally ‘got off my ass’ as you would say.” She chuckled, but it held no real joy behind it. “I just hope you’d be proud of me...and I just hope that I can come back to see you-”
Wanda cut herself off when she felt you begin to move. All of a sudden your face shifted, and you began to turn your head. 
“Y/n?...”
You began to open your eyes slowly, head slowly lifting off your pillow. Your eyes looked around, trying to adjust to the brightness of the room. Before you could even look at Wanda though, you began coughing. 
Wanda rushed to poor you a glass of water, knowing your mouth would be dry from not using it for a while. She handed it to you, quickly, and you slowly raised your hand to take it. As you began to drink, Wanda couldn’t help but smile. You were finally awake. She was beyond relieved. She was put in a rough spot now, she knew she had to meet Clint so they could go, but...you were finally awake. She couldn’t leave you.
“Wanda, we gotta go!” She heard Clint yell, and without tearing her eyes away from you, she yelled back.
“In a minute! Y/n just woke up!”
She didn’t hear a response from the man, but she heard footsteps quickly making its way towards your room. 
You finished drinking your water and placed the cup on the bedside table. You began to try to sit up, but Wanda rushed to your side to help.
“Here you go, easy.”
When you fully sat up, you took in the appearance of the woman next to you. You smiled. “Thank you.”
“Of course.” She breathed out. You looked her in the eyes, smile still on both your faces. But, Wanda’s smile dropped instantly at the next words that came out of your mouth.
“Sorry, hi, I’m Y/n. You probably already knew that though.” You chuckled nervously. “Are you one of the nurses?”
Wanda froze. No. This couldn’t be happening. The doctors told her that Amnesia was a possibility since you hit your head on impact from the blast, but it never seemed like a real threat. She stared at you, jaw slacked for a few more moments.
“Um, hello?...Oh! Are you my doctor? Sorry, I didn’t mean to assume.”
Wanda snapped out of it when she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned her head to see it was Clint. You spoke up again before she could say anything though.
“Oh, hey, are you a nurse? Or doctor?”
Realization filled Clint’s face, but he held it together. He simply shook his head.
“Oh...so, is someone supposed to help me or...?” You trailed off. 
Clint looked to Wanda, who was still in shock, tears beginning to form in her eyes. He knew he had to take over, get them out as soon as possible. “Sorry, Y/n. We’ll get your nurse to come and check on you. Glad to see you’re awake.” Before you could respond, he quickly rushed out of the room, pulling Wanda with him.
Wanda finally let herself break down, and cried in the van. She barely had time to process everything before they picked up a man name Scott and flew to the airport to meet Steve.
Steve broke down the plan and the team went separate ways to suit up and get in position. Except Wanda. Steve was about to go get himself ready, but paused when he saw the witch frozen in place.
“Wanda? You okay?” Wanda simply shook her head and looked up at him, he could see the tears in her eyes. “What happened?”
“Y/n woke up.”
Steve raised his eyebrows in shock. “She did? That’s great-” He was cut off when Wanda let out a sob. He then put two and two together, something was wrong. “...What was it?”
“She...doesn’t remember anything...doesn’t remember me...”
Steve sighed. He was saddened by the news as well, you and him were very close, both being super soldiers and all. He couldn’t even imagine what Wanda was going through in this moment though, so he put on a brave face. He went over to the witch and wrapped an arm around her. “Y/n is strong...when this is over, we’ll go see her and start-” Steve was cut off again when Wanda shook her head.
“Steve...you and I both know this isn’t gonna end with us just being able to go back...” She looked up at him. He was about to speak up again, when he heard Sam in his ear.
“Cap, Tony and Rhodey are flying in now. You good to go?” 
Steve looked to Wanda, knowing she heard him too since they all had coms. She nodded. “On my way.” He turned to leave, before giving Wanda one last look. “Whatever happens, it’ll be okay.”
It wasn’t.
The fight at the airport was beyond tiresome, and they lost. Steve and Bucky got away to handle the other Winter Soldiers, but the rest of the team was captured.
So now here she was, sitting in a cell in a high security prison in the middle of the ocean...with a straight jacket and shock collar on. Wanda couldn’t even be upset about it. She was numb. She’s already lost everything she possibly could. Her parents, her brother, her country, and now...you. She couldn’t bring herself to care whether or not she wasted away in this cell. Maybe she deserved to.
But of course, she couldn’t even have that for long, as Steve broke them out a few days later.
Up on the quinjet with Steve and the rest of the team, she sat alone, staring out the window watching the dark clouds pass by. After a few moments, she felt a presence next to her. She looked over to see who it was. Natasha.
“What are you doing here?” Wanda asked, looking back out the window. 
“It’s a long story.” She answered. “Steve told me what happened, I...I’m not even sure what to say. I am so sorry Wanda.” Wanda merely nodded, not trusting her voice right now. Natasha took a deep breath and continued. “Y’know...I can pull some strings, the ones I have left anyway. Get Y/n relocated to be with us. I know she doesn’t remember anything right now, but-”
“No.” Wanda cut her off, surprising the redhead.
“Wha...what do you mean ‘no’?”
Wanda had thought about it, she’s thought about it the entire time she was in the Raft. She would love nothing more than to see you again, to hold you and help you on your recovery, but...she couldn’t. She was a wanted fugitive now, and you were only in this predicament because of her...she had to be selfless here. She couldn’t bring you into this life, not when you were missing chunks of your own.
“I mean no.” She said, looking up into Natasha’s eyes, tears pooling in her own. “She’s better off.”
And with that, Wanda got up, walking towards the back of the jet to be alone. She took a deep breath, and prepared herself. Preparing herself for a new life as a fugitive on the run. And most importantly...
Preparing for a life without you.

“Quite the party, Tones. Really one up yourself tonight didn’t you?” Nat said after everyone cleaned up. It was around one in the morning, Everyone that Tony invited to yet another extravagant party had finally left.  Leaving you and the rest of the team for a small little after party,  as per usual  according to Nat.
You joined the Avengers not long ago and you had yet to be invited to one of Tony's parties.  This was the first of many to come and boy, did those fantasies get fulfilled.  Guests dressed to the nines occupied every corner of the room, it was almost too crowded for your taste. 
But now here you were settled on the couch with the rest of your teammates laughing and giggling about stupid things that happened during the party. 
“Hey, you had fun,” Tony pointed sternly at Nat, who simply shrugged with a devilish smirk. 
“So what now? Because I don’t know about you guys but I am not tired at all,” Clint groaned.
“Truth or dare?” Nat said.
“What?” 
“Truth. Or. Dare,” she repeated.
“Dare,” he challenged.
“Lift Thor’s hammer,” she mocked, considering the last they all tried it no one succeed and a robot crashed their party.
“Alright,” he grunted, standing up.
“Tony, got any robots that wanna kill you this time?” He laughed.
“I don’t think so,” Tony looked around, making everyone laugh.
“What happened last time?” you whispered to Bucky. 
“I have no idea, I was in hiding after I almost killed my best friend,” he whispered back.
“I’m so sorry,” you had a shocked look on your face.
“It’s ok, doll. We’re all fine and dandy now,” he winked, making you feel flustered. 
Bucky had the one you felt most friendly with. Nat too but you usually spent most of your time with him. He was just so nice to you and not to mention how incredibly charming and handsome he is.
“Had enough?” Nat said.
“Bitch,” Clint grumbled before sitting down after having failed yet again to lift Thor’s hammer.
“Who’s next!”
You guys went back and forth giving dares to everyone, from making Steve and Bucky have a beer chugging contest, to asking Vision if he had a dick, you know being a robot at all, to you taking three shots of tequila with no chase, ultimately failing and almost dying.
“Ok, we’re doing too many dares; I’m running out of ideas,” Nat laughed.
“Y/n, truth or dare.”
“Truth, I guess,” you said.
“What’s… your biggest fear?” a collection of ‘ooh’s’ and ‘ah’s’ echoed.
“Oh, well uh… clowns,” you chuckled, not really wanting to reveal you real fear; you felt it was kinda stupid.
“Clowns? Bitch, please. What is it for real?” Nat scooted to you.
“Um… well, uh-”
You took a deep breath.
“Being unlovable,” you whispered.
“What? We love you, Y/n. You’re family now; we all love you,” Steve spoke up.
“Yeah we love you,” everyone chimed in. 
“I know it’s stupid,” you said, shaking it off.
“It’s not stupid if it’s your biggest fear,” Nat said rubbing your back.
“I guess what I mean is… You know that love where you just think about that person and your palms get sweaty, you start feeling hot, your stomach kind of erupts into butterflies. And it's just because you thought about them. You see their smile and you want to smile too. You see them laugh and it's music to your ears; and all you can think about for the rest of the day is how you can make that person laugh again. And when you touch them, your fingertips start to tingle. Your body turns cold and then they leave and then your body turns really hot and you get super sweaty. That kind of love is so intimate between you and that person. I've never had that and I'm terrified that I never will.”
Everyone looked at you with their full attention. They never really thought about it because they’ve all loved someone. Steve felt that way about Peggy, Tony with Pepper, Nat and Bruce felt that way with each other, Thor had Jane, Clint was married and had a family, Wanda and Vision. It was just you Sam and Bucky and it was obvious you three had never been in love like that.
“How can you say that?” Bucky broke the silence.
“What?”
“How can you be afraid you’ll never be loved? Y/n, any man, woman, anybody would be the luckiest person alive to call you there’s. You are so special and unlike anybody I’ve ever met. I see you smile and it’s like a work of art. Your laugh is the most precious thing I’ve ever heard. Everytime you touch me I can’t help but wish…,” he paused, remembering there were other people around.
“You’re perfect and anyone who can’t see that is goddamn fucking idiot,” he huffed. Bucky didn’t give anyone time to process what he said before he left the room to his own.
“I think I’m done… for the night,” you whispered walking out. 
“Yeah good night guys,” Nat followed you out. 
Everyone scattered and went to their rooms, tension still in the air. You went to your room and thought about Bucky’s words. It felt like there was something between you two but it was exactly clarified. You changed into sleepwear and decided to talk to Bucky real quick before bed.
“Buck?” you softly knocked on his door.
“Hey,” he said, awkwardly opening the door.
“Can I come in?”
“Of course,” he opened the door wider and closed the door behind you.
“I thought about what you said, tonight.”
“Yeah, I didn’t mean to upset you or make you uncomfortable,” he scratched his neck.
“I’m not upset.”
There was a moment of silence between you.
“Y/n,” he spoke up.
“Yeah?” 
“I like you,” he said bluntly.
“So when I heard you say you didn’t know if you were unlovable I got kinda upset because well,” he trailed off.
 “Really?” you asked, smiling softly.
“Yeah, I get it if you don’t-”
“No! I do, I do. I like you,” you laughed. Bucky breathed out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. He walked closer to you until he stood toe to toe with you. Your stomach fluttered like you wished it would for so long before . You felt hot and resisted the urge to reach out and touch him.
“You’re so beautiful, Y/n,” he cupped your face.
“Can I kiss you?” he asked.
“Yes, please,” you responded.
You melted ainst Bucky when his lips touched yours. You felt unsteady and reached forward to holding his waist, smaller than you originally thought. He walked slowly forward until your knees buckled and you sat on the bed. 
You fell back and pulled on top of you making Bucky’s hips settle between your legs. His rough hands felt gentle moving slowly up your body under your shirt. His hands brushed the curve of your breasts making you gasped lightly. 
Bucky lips traced your jaw line and you moved your head back giving him room to nip at your neck. Your hands instinctively went to hair and you moaned softly at Bucky's lips on your neck. 
You slightly pushed him off of your body and lifted his shirt. Bucky lifted his arms not without a chuckled and discarded to the floor. You moaned at the sight of his muscular torso, your nails lightly scratching him make his abs tighten under your fingertips.

Her cold lips pressed against the back of your neck, a firm presence in the swirling dark. You couldn’t see her, but you could feel her. Could feel her wandering hands snaking over your bare skin, making you squirm. 
You could see your breath form in the cool air around you, and you were pulled back against her front, feeling her hook her legs over yours, her dark hair falling into your sight as she enveloped you. Hints of green pulsed in your peripheral vision.
“Hela,” you breathed, clinging onto one of her hands as the other traveled lower and lower. You stared up into the darkness, falling back even further into her hold, her body and soft cushions catching you. Her voice rumbled in your ear, but you couldn’t understand what she was saying. 
Your eyes fluttered shut as familiar fingers searched and caressed your cunt, pushing between your folds and collecting your wetness on her fingertips. Your hips bucked weakly, as if you were caught in molasses, and you moaned softly.
One of your hands tried to reach back, felt the brush of her hair against your palm, but couldn’t find her head or her shoulders to hold onto. Your legs were still trapped, the fingers were still moving inside you, but your hands were grasping at nothingness and-
You sat up in your bed, shaking, eyes looking around and wondering if Hela could be in your room with you. But there was nothing, and no one out of the ordinary. 
Sweat had gathered in every crevice of your body and you clambered out of bed to take a quick shower, trying to wash the feeling of Hela off your body, without succeeding. You didn't sleep the rest of the night.

The next day you were sitting by yourself, reading a book after lunch in a small reading room away from the main offices and training rooms where you knew the rest of the team would be. 
Something crept up the back of your neck and a chill ran through your body. You tried to ignore it, but it persisted. And when you looked up from your book, Loki was standing by the doorway, looking quite unimpressed. You shrieked, your stomach dropping at the sight of you.
He raised his hand to shush you and eyed the doorway, hoping no one would come through there. You stared at him, and in a split decision, chucked your book at him.
It went straight through his form, only causing a faint green glimmer as it landed on the floor. You gaped at him and he raised an eyebrow, silently asking if you were done.  
“Do you know how hard it was to find you?” Loki said after you had calmed down somewhat.
“What are you doing here?” you hissed, “weren’t you..”
“Dead? No, not quite. Almost.”
You sank back in your seat, your hand over your heart as you sighed, “what is it with you lot and always coming back from the dead?”
“It’s an occupational hazard with what we do,” he shrugged.
A pair of footsteps walked by the room, and Loki slunk back into the shadows, fading away for a moment. You didn't move until you were sure whoever it was  had gone. 
“Look, I don’t have much time,” Loki said once you were alone again, “but we’re here to break you out.”
“Who’s we?”
Loki rolled his eyes, “who do you think? Your murderous girlfriend who unfortunately happens to be my sister as well.”
Your heart nearly jumped out of your throat, “Hela? So she is here?”
“Of course she is.”
You sat quietly for a moment; so your mind wasn’t playing tricks on you. Hela had come back for you, and she was here.. somewhere.
“I- I can’t believe..”
“Well you better, now get your things and follow me. We can get out of here without fighting.”
“Wait- what? No, wait, wait,” you got up hurriedly as Loki began walking to the doorway. You couldn’t stop him- it was only a projection of him, but you weren’t ready to just walk out.
“Why would I just leave?” you asked, making Loki stop in his tracks. He looked you over and slowly approached you, his eyes flashing.
“Because you’re being held here against your will and she’s come to bail you out? Mind you- it was her idea to come barging in and killing anyone in sight, so this is a much better upgrade from that plan.”
“No- no I know. But.. when we get out, what then? What am I supposed to do? Loki... the world’s fallen apart.”
The Asgardian was quiet.
“Yeah, sure,” you continued, pacing from where you were standing, “I don’t like being kept here but- there’s not much else out there right now. Everything here at least feels a little... normal.”
“You can’t be serious. What about Hela then, huh? You think she’ll stay here with a team of heroes who tried to kill her? Just for you? Hela hates being imprisoned, Y/N. This would be a death sentence for all of us.”
“What about you then?” you retorted, “after you get me out, and Hela and I go about our merry way, what will you do? Tour the universe until some other evil plan comes up?
“This,” you gestured around the room, “is all I have right now.”
“No, no,” Loki mocked your gesture a bit more aggressively, “what you have is a prison, and only one person in the world who will stop at nothing to break you out of it.
“I’m not the most romantic, fine,” he admitted, “but I know that the two of you should never be apart, ever again. You should have seen her when I found her, Y/N- she was broken.”
A wave of tears threatened to spill at his words and you fell back in you chair once again. You buried your face in your hands and for a few minutes nothing else happened. Loki looked at you and felt his heart -or what was left of it- break to see you so defeated. 
“I love her, Loki,” you whimpered, “I tried to deny it when Tony said so.. but he’s right. I love her, but I’m scared. This world isn’t meant for her. It would drive her mad.”
“Not with you around.”
You wiped the salty tears off your cheeks and looked up at Loki.
“Let’s get you out of here, and we can figure it out from there, okay? Perhaps we can come to an agreement with the rest of your team.”
You eventually nodded and stood up, ready to pack the few things you had when a loud crash and alarms sounded. There was a hurry of steps outside the room and when you looked, the whole team of remaining Avengers were preparing themselves, running down the hallways to the source of the noise.
“You filthy humans!” a cry came from the direction they were running towards. Your heart shattered; Hela.
Beside you, Loki’s apparition groaned in exasperation.
“I told her to wait, for crying out loud. Why would she be so reckless?”
“She takes after her family, obviously,” you said. “Can’t you get her out of here?”
“You’re a fool to think I can control her now.”
“Then get over here and help her!”
“Yes, yes, alright,” Loki huffed, “I’ll be there in a moment.”
His image shimmered away, and you hurried down the hallway, hoping to stall before anyone was killed.
One of the ground level metal walls had been torn open like it was nothing but paper. Large metal spears and knives were wedged in the edges and the opposite walls. The sun was glinting off of Hela’s horns and blinded you for a moment before you could really look at her.
She looked.. regal. Well, she mostly looked psychotic, with bared teeth and clenched hands, but it was her and she was real and oh boy was she angry. 
Hela had Steve by the throat, holding him up so his feet barely brushed the ground. Tony and Nat had their weapons aimed but didn’t shoot. They were either waiting for her to drop Steve or didn't want to kill her. You hoped it was the latter.
“Wait!” you screamed, skidding to a halt at the scene. Dust swirled in the air from the debris. There were no bodies yet, and you prayed you could keep it that way.
The moment Hela caught sight of you, her face changed. Her eyebrows unfurled and her mouth dropped open a little bit- she looked at you with disbelief, as if she couldn’t comprehend you standing there, alive and well.
Steve took the opportunity as she was distracted and lifted his leg to kick her square in the stomach. She doubled over, dropping him, and he raised his arm to land a punch, but instead, Hela grabbed his offensive arm and whipped him away from her- effectively throwing him against the rest of the team, knocking them all down temporarily.
Before you could react and rush over to see if the group of Avengers were okay, Hela was by you in a flash.
Her hands trembled as they grasped yours, and she looked you up and down, checking for wounds, checking if you were there. Then she cupped your cheek, wiping away the tears you were crying.
“Hela-,” you croaked, because the touch of her was too much, too overwhelming, too good. She smiled, though barely, and kissed you hard on the mouth.
“Stand down, sister,” Thor’s voice boomed, and she turned to see the team back on their feet, aiming everything they had at her. She snarled, pulling you behind her, shielding you from them, as if they would ever hurt you.
“You’ve taken everything from me, brother,” she spat. “You won’t take this last ounce of happiness from me.”
Something flickered in Thor’s eyes and he had to retighten his grip on his hammer, which you realized wasn’t Mjolnir, but a makeshift copy that looked somewhat close to it. 
“Y/N,” Tony said, gesturing you over to their side, “come here. Quick. We don’t want you in the way.”
Hela’s focus sharpened in on him, hidden in his armour. There was a surge of jealousy through her whole being, at the memory of him by your side, threatening to hurt you, sparring with you, taking you from her. 
She pushed you back, hurled herself at Tony with lightning speed before anyone could shoot, breaking entirely through the next wall, and landing with a thud in the next room.
“No!” you screamed, shielding your face from the spray of debris as the wall broke down.
Hela tried to punch, but Tony’s right iron hand held it in place, arms shaking from the force. They stayed there, suspended in time for a moment. Hela lowered her face to Tony’s helmet as she growled and snapped, but he could see the tears streaming down her face, the wild fear and anger in her eyes.
“You won’t steal her from me,” she cried. 
Then JARVIS finished downloading Hela’s body scan from the first day at your home way back, analyzing her form, and realizing her weaknesses. Her left side was much weaker than her right. 
And so, he kicked, jabbed, and twisted her left leg and arm until she howled in pain and dropped to the side, giving Tony the chance to get up and put some distance between them again. 
You felt helpless, not knowing how to stop it, not knowing what to do, not wanting to hurt anyone- you had no weapons on you. Hela staggered to her feet, the helmet having disappeared long ago, and she raised her hand to summon a new menacing sword, when someone hooked an arm around her neck and pressed a rusty dagger against her neck. 
“Drop it, sister,” Loki hissed, the blade pressing finely against her skin. She hissed, but slowly let it slip from her hands as she realized defeat. You were panting, every inch of you throbbing with adrenaline and dread. 
“Stand down, everyone,” Loki continued, and then with a pointed look at Thor, “please, brother.”
Thor was the first to lower his hammer, though his face was still angry and unforgiving. Then Tony, and everyone else followed suit.
Loki kicked the back of Hela’s knee to make her drop down, to which she cried out in anger.
“Sorry,” he added, the blade still pressed against her neck, “but you’ve really got to stop going on killing sprees.”
“You were taking too long,” she snapped, “I needed to take matters into my own hands. How was I supposed to know what was happening?”
“Alright, okay, anyone wanna explain what the hell is going on? Y/N? Thor? You wanna explain what your dysfunctional family is doing here?” Nat asked, exasperated.
The God of Thunder looked at you, your eyes begging and desperate. “They’re here for you, aren’t they?”
You nodded weakly, trembling.
“Well, best let her take her then,” Tony sighed. All of you turned your heads at him in disbelief. His iron armour was short-circuiting from the blows Hela had landed and he quickly stepped out of it. You were reminded once again of how malnourished he looked- and how dark the bags under his eyes were. But his tone remained chipper.
“You’ve seen what she can do,” he gestured at Hela, “and she isn’t gonna stop until she gets Y/N. And I don’t think Y/N wants to stay here either.”
He looked at you knowingly, and you felt like you could cry all over again.
Hela struggled against Loki’s grip for a moment, heartbroken as she saw your face scrunch up and your hands grasp your elbows in an attempt to shield yourself.
“Is that true?” Nat asked, staring at you with a gun still in hand. 
You slowly nodded, making eye contact with Hela and not looking away. You heard Steve sigh and groan a bit from pain as he came up to your side.
“Y/N, she’s a vicious attacking machine, we can’t just let you two run off.”
“Why not?” you asked, your voice thick. “We won’t hurt anyone.”
“Look, we still don’t even know if she knows about Thanos, right?” Clint said, but Tony shook his head, sitting down on the armrest of a cushioned chair that was practically sliced in half from Hela throwing weapons.
“I doubt that,” he said, “if she had control over Thanos or any connection with  him, I don’t think she would have come alone, let alone with him,” with a nod towards Loki.
He rolled his eyes, “you’re welcome for saving you, by the way.”
“Can you- could you all, please, just, can we please just talk about this?” you hiccuped through your words, sobs slowly growing in volume. “Loki- the- the knife, please- please let her go.”
Loki looked at you apologetically, “not if she lashes out again.”
“Hela,” you pleaded, “Hela, please. Don’t hurt anyone else? Everyone- everyone has already been hurt so much.”
Hela looked at you, now seeing the tears sliding down your dirtied cheeks, and her shoulders slumped, before nodding. Her hands that were gripping Loki’s arm around her neck let go, and dropped to her sides.
Loki removed the dagger and stepped away. Tension filled the room, expecting her to attack again.
“Y/N,” Thor said, and he tossed you a new pair of handcuffs. “Go on.”
You stared at him, “excuse me? You want me to chain her up- again? After everything-”
“This is more to keep all of us safe. She’d kill us if we came too close,” Thor said, pointedly raising an eyebrow at you. “It won’t be for long. Not until we figure out what to do next.”
You stumbled over rand dropped on your knees in front of Hela, gently holding her hands for a moment. She stared at you, deep green eyes watering.
“Just for now,” you promised. “Just like before, okay?”
You waited for long, agonizing moments until she nodded, and only then did you snap the cuffs in place. Almost immediately, Tony was on Loki and had his wrists in chains as well.
“Wh- excuse me?” he scoffed, staring at the cuffs, “how dare you?”
“Precautions, my friend,” he shrugged. “Come on, all of you, this mess is doing nothing for my respiratory system.”
He pushed Loki ahead of him and you followed with Hela’s hands clasping yours, rubbing your arms together, her trailing behind you like a lost puppy. You were thrilled to see her again, but wondered where the hell you were supposed to go from here. 
A/N; I guess I kinda made Loki the unspoken hero didn’t I? :D
so the main reason why I haven’t been updating this series as much is because we’re at a point where multiple ideas branch off into totally different directions, and I keep changing my mind about where I want this to go, effectively stumping me when writing. but after much editing and changing of plot, this is what I’ve got, and I hope you like it :)

Pinky Promises and Hugs From the Wind {Ray x Fem! Reader TPN}

I'm still figuring out tumblr so as I said in my bio, bare with me through my writing journey and me figuring out tumblr because it seems the one thing I am not advanced with is technology lol.

Who would have thought a childhood promise could be kept?
It was a sunny day at Gracefield Orphanage. Two children around 5 years-old stood under a large tree tree reading a book. This book involved something called romance or love. They didn’t fully understand the word but they were drawn to it. They read about the beautiful girl marrying the beast because she saved him in all the ways she could. That made the young, slightly sleepy, boy think of her. She was sitting right next to him, looking over his shoulder as he read the end of that chapter. Her beauty was beyond compare in all aspects of the word. She saw through how closed off he was and made a great relationship with him. He wanted to marry her. He wanted to spend the rest of his days reading to her and seeing that smile or hearing her laughter. “Ray, when we get older I want to get married and have a family.” she says a bit bashfully. “With who?” “You of course silly. Would you do that for me?”... “Yeah I think that would be nice.” He said with a rare smile. “Pinky Promise?” They interlocked their pinkies, kissed their thumbs, and stuck them together for extra strength as she called it.
Now they would finally fulfill that promise they made oh so long ago. They decided to get married at the same spot they made that promise. The big tree with the two carvings “L+I” and “R+(F/L).” They had carved their names on that tree when they were 11 and 12 just before they escaped. It was kind of like a parting gift to the place they used to call home. They also had it there because so many firsts happened there, their first time holding hands, their first kiss, everything they did together for the first time happened there. It was only fair they would have the first wedding for humans under that tree.
Ray stood under the arch of flowers, nervously straightening his tie. Norman stood in the middle of the arch waiting with Ray. He put his large hand on Ray’s shoulder and said “Your tie is straight, relax.” That did little to quell his fast beating heart and sweaty palms but at least he had a friend to reassure him.
You stood in a room with some of the other girls. Gilda was straightening up your dress, Anna was making sure your bouquet was perfect, and Emma was staring in admiration. You were stunning. You looked effortlessly beautiful and radiant. They stepped back to admire their work and squealed. “Ray will love it!” They said in unison.
You walked down to where Mister or “Yuugo” as you knew him by now stood waiting for you. (Ik he is dead but pretend he is not so he can walk you down the aisle!) You were like his own daughter so seeing you in that beautiful white dress and long veil covering your face made him shed a minuscule tear. You met him in the middle and he put out his arm for you to grab. You smiled and he smiled back. Although he would never admit it, he was proud. This was his family of sorts and he was giving away his “daughter.”
Nat started playing the piano once he saw you take a step out into the aisle. Carol walked in front of you and Mister as she threw flowers on the walkway. You still remember when she came to this exact place when she was just a baby and you held her for the first time. Now she was 12 years old and was just like what Emma was like as a kid. Phil walked behind you holding two rings on a pillow. He grew up too fast for your liking. He was 16 now and quite tall. It made you feel old seeing him so grown up when it felt like just yesterday you could hold him on your hip.
The crowd of people went silent and stared in awe as you walked down the aisle. Your hair glistened and your eyes sparked as the sun hit them oh so perfectly. Your bouquet was magnificent as well. It consisted of an assortment of white flowers and for a pop of color, (Y/F/F).
Ray tensed and his eyes widened a bit. She was more beautiful than he would have ever imagined and he had imagined it a lot. He started to tear up as you got closer. You were going to be his wife in just a few minutes. It made him look back on all the things you did together from your very first conversation to your first kiss. It felt like this all but a dream.
“You may now kiss the bride!” said Norman in an enthusiastic tone.
Ray lifted the veil over your face and looked into your eyes with all the love in his heart.
After what felt like hours of staring into each other's eyes Ray kissed you. It was filled with every emotion he could fit in it. The crowd erupted in cheers and some wolf whistles from Thoma and Lannion. Then, you both did something no one expected.
You and Ray put your foreheads together and smiled softly as you made another pinky promise. You were silently promising to follow your vows. Even though you had previously done so a pinky promise felt more real. You kissed your thumbs, stuck them together, and sealed it with another kiss on the lips.
In the night, after the reception, you and Ray were celebrating yourselves without anyone around. (not dirty stuff lol) Then the sound of water hitting the window pane interrupted your happy little hug.
It was like when you were younger. You would both go out in the rain after your escape and just slow dance. You would hug, kiss maybe, but you both enjoyed it a lot. Though you never knew, some of the little kids would spy on you two in these moments and just make quiet “aww’s.”
You dragged Ray out into the rain and you just started swaying. You didn’t care if you would be soaking wet or sick in the morning, you just wanted to stare into your husband’s eyes and never want this moment to end.
Then you heard a click. You looked up and saw Ray pulling out a picture from his camera. It was a much more up to date model that he got as a wedding gift. What would be a better first photo than one of his beloved wife?
You both just laughed.
“You know there's one thing I want to add to our vows…” said Ray “I will always dance in the rain with you. Even when I’m in my rocker.” you both finished off in unison.
As you said those words you both looked up to the gray sky and said yet again in unison “We did it Mama.”
Then you felt a gust of wind grasp both your shoulders, as if to hug you.
You both knew it was Isabella and you knew she was smiling down at both of you.

THREE YEARS EARLIER. 
You jumped at the sound of the alarm on your phone going off, it probably was the longest fifteen minutes of your life. You sighed heavily, grabbing the test off the counter, holding it upside down first, taking a deep breath you went to flip the test over, but the door downstairs slammed shut, causing you to jump. You turned and set the test under the sink and made your way out to the hallway and downstairs to meet your husband. You furrowed your eyebrows at his state, a mess in truth. You watched him pace along the living room in front of the couch, yet to notice you at the end of the steps. “Steve?” you asked softly, adjusting the hoodie on your arms, you could hear the squeak of his boots coming to a stop on the vinyl flooring in the living room. “Baby?” he sighed heavily “what are you doing here?” he asked, his voice held slight panic “I thought you were out for the night anyways” he continued. You could tell something was wrong you just weren't sure what, his demeanor was off, yes he was rough around the edges but not with you, you pulled back those layers. 
You walked towards him, tilting your head “Steve what is going on?” you asked quietly, gently taking his hand. You could see the slight sulk of his shoulders as he sighed, looking down at your connected hands, the ring on your left hand shining against the lights. You knew with what Steve did you knew you were going to be giving your husband to others but you were concerned with what was going on. Steve played with your wedding ring, his dangling between his chest. “I’m so sorry baby, I am” he whispered, his focus on your hands, you lifted his chin,noticing the tears in his eyes as you frowned, wiping his cheek gently “hey” you whispered to him noticing him close his eyes tighter. “I messed up” he whispered, licking his lips and turning away from you “how did you mess up babe? What was going on tonight?” you asked, you never knew what was going on with the guys, you always opted to never know. “I got messy” he looked at you running his fingers through his hair “I-I don’t know how it happened or what happened honestly, Buck was keeping watch and I-” “hey” you cut him off, taking him into your arms the best you could. “Baby we have to fall off the grid” he whispered against your head as you nodded “okay baby” you whispered pulling away from him “I’ll pack a back, pack you one too” you looked up at him as he shook his head “no, I have to fall off the grid” he whispered looking over your face “I’m technically a fugitive” he looked over your face as your face fell. 
You couldn’t believe this was happening, you didn’t want to know what Steve had done, or what Bucky had done, any of them really. You opted to stay the innocent wife to the most notorious biker in the whole Brooklyn area. You sighed looking at him “Steven Grant, I have no idea what the fuck you did but I can’t just let you go” you looked at him, the tears were flowing between him and you as he kissed your forehead, turning to the steps to go upstairs. After he packed his bag he walked back downstairs, you sat on the couch, sobbing softly into your hands as you couldn’t believe upstairs held the fate of your and steve’s marriage. He walked to you, lifting your chin, “I’m so sorry my love, I will know more when I can, I am sorry” he leaned down kissing the top of your head, pulling the chain over his neck and setting it in your palm, the cold metal of his wedding ring sitting in your hands. You sobbed harder as you heard the door close behind him, holding the ring closer to you. After a few hours you managed to go upstairs to the bathroom, you had to know. With or without Steve, no matter what the result was going to be, you knew you would do your absolute damndest to be good. Grabbing the test from under the sink you shakily turned the test over, as you turned the test over you were met with two pink lines. Positive. 
PRESENT DAY.
You laughed as your little boy ran across the park playground, still a bit wobbly on his feet but with having the genes he did, he blossomed fast. You smiled watching him, as you looked over your shoulder you noticed someone standing back at the edge of the park, you quickly turned back to your little man, as he babbled his way back to you, slowly. You scooped up Miles and made your way to the car, diaper bag on your shoulder. Driving from the park you couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched, it had been a long time since you had a bodyguard, let alone have someone with you. You quickly dialed Natasha, after a few rings she answered, “Hey (Y/N)!” she answered happily “Hey, I need you to stay on the phone with me” you replied as you noticed the SUV still following you, noticing the same guy in the driver seat. “Are you okay?” she asked quickly, the worry in her voice evident “I’m really not sure Nat, I took Miles to the park he was playing and I just happened to look over and there was someone watching, too intently for my liking” you replied, gripping the wheel tighter. “Okay.. Do you know what he looked like?” she asked as you bit your lip “He was tall, I think blonde? I didn’t get a good look Nat I wanted to get the hell out of the park” you replied as you slowly turned down your street. 
You looked back out the rearview mirror as you noticed the SUV still following you. You passed the house, biting your lip as you circled the block. “(Y/N)” Nat knocked you out of your daydream as you wiped your cheek, clearing your throat “yeah yeah sorry” you replied, she sighed softly “I’m sorry I know this would be much easier with him” she replied softly as you shrugged, as she couldn’t see you “I miss buck everyday” she replied again. You sighed “I’m sorry were together in this” you replied as you finally gave in and pulled into the driveway. “Okay Nat, I’m home, I’m gonna get Miles inside and then I’m gonna get some answers, I love you, If you do not hear from me-” she cut you off “I know I know fifteen minutes then I’m there to get him” she replied. You hung the phone up and quickly got Miles inside the house. Turning on his favorite cartoon and leaving him in his playpen you made your way upstairs quickly, you rummaged through your closet to grab the safety box from the back, unlocking it and grabbing the gun inside you shoved it in your back pocket and made your way back outside.
You approached the car, as a man in a grey suit stepped out. You stopped at the end of your driveway, baby monitor in hand to keep your ear out for your little man. “Ma’am” the man nodded, “Is there a reason you followed me?” you crossed your arms, jumping to the point quickly. “Ma’am I’m sorry to show up like this” he approached you slowly as you held your hand up “do not get any closer to me, what the fuck do you want?” you seethed, he looked at you as he held his hand up in defense “I’m sorry ma’am” he pulled his wallet out, the gold of his badge shined in the light “I work with the FBI ma’am” he replied. “What the actual fuck does the FBI want with me?!” you grit your teeth, “We would like to know if you have had recent contact with your husband” he replied shoving his hands in his fancy suit pockets, you laughed “this is about steve?” you asked, he nodded. You pushed your hair back and out of your face, laughing and shaking your head “no and why the fuck would I tell you?” you replied, walking back inside to your little boy. 
You sighed as you shut the door, leaning against the door and closing your eyes. You looked out the window to notice the black SUV was gone from the front of your house. You felt your phone vibrate in your back pocket, knocking you out of what small dream you were in. You walked to the kitchen, setting the gun in front of you on the counter, hiding from Miles view, answering. “Hello?” you asked, sighing “Hey!” Natasha replied “just making sure auntie nat wasn’t gonna have to jump in” she replied softly as you shook your head “no its okay i’m okay” you replied as she sighed “you don’t sound it, I’ll be over in twenty” she hung up before you could protest. You made your way upstairs to the bedroom to lock up the gun back in the safe and back into the closet, after doing so you made your way to the dresser, picking up Steve’s ring. You sighed heavily sitting down against the bed, the tears welling up in your eyes. 
You quickly wiped your cheeks, getting up off the floor as you tossed the necklace back on the bed. Making your way downstairs you opened the door as you checked the time, a quick twenty minutes went by. You opened the door to Nat smiling. “Hi” she whispered, a sad smile as she noticed your tear stained cheeks, you sniffled hugging her back as she made her way inside. You let her go and get a few minutes of auntie time before you put Miles down for his nap. You smiled as you watched the two of them, Natasha was one of the only ones who knew you were having a baby, the only person you let know, giving her the privilege of god mother. After a good fifteen minute cuddle you slipped Miles away and upstairs to his bedroom, laying him down for his nap, walking from the room slowly you closed the door, leaving a crack gently. 
You made your way downstairs to the living room to Nat with two glasses and a bottle of wine, “you look like you could use a little” she replied as you shook your head chuckling, sitting down “it’s still afternoon” you replied as she shook her head “for one more hour” she shrugged. “Okay what's going on?” she asked, adjusting comfortably on the couch, you sighed “it was the FBI” you looked at her as she choked on her wine “I’m sorry what?” you nodded as you sat back “they wanted to know if i’ve heard from steve, in which I haven’t sense he left” you told her as she nodded “that means they’ll probably get in touch with me and probably with Lily” you nodded as you sighed, you natasha and lily all lost your husbands in the same time. You sighed as you looked at her “I just don’t understand” you replied “they could've just come to me personally not creep on me and scare the shit out of me” you pushed your hair back out of your face “have you heard from bucky?” you asked. She sighed as she shook her head “Not technically, I got a random package that I didn’t order that I think was from him” she replied as you nodded “thats sweet though” you smiled as you reflected, she took your hand squeezing it gently “it’s gonna work out okay? We will be okay” you nodded as you sighed, you hoped so. 
After a few hours of chatting with Nat she decided to head home and call lily incase the fbi contacted her as well about Sam. You danced around the kitchen slowly as you fed Miles the meal of oats banana and peaches. You smiled scooping the food into his mouth as you both giggled. After dinner you got miles upstairs to get cleaned up, laughing as he played with the ducky in the tub. You gently rinsed his blonde hair, the hair he got from his father, as he looked up at you with the blue eyes he also got from his father. You smiled as you gently finished his bath and scooped him up and into the bedroom for jammies. After a long hour you got Miles down for the night and made your way to the bedroom when you heard a noise downstairs in the kitchen. You stopped dead in your tracks as you heard the commotion, in the moment you wished you had listened to lily when she suggested a dog. You quickly made your way to the closet, grabbing the gun and slowly making your way downstairs to the kitchen.
You stood against the back of the stairs,peaking around the corner to the kitchen to a figure in the back door of the house. You slowly made your way down the steps and around the corner, holding your gun up to the person ahead of you. “I’m gonna give you to the count of fucking three before I call the cops” you whispered holding the gun tighter, you were lucky steve tought you self defense, weapons included. The person ahead of you held their hands up in front of you as you made your way back to flick the light switch on to get a look of their back. “Turn your ass around slowly” you watched them slowly turn around to face you, you guessed by now it was a man, the body stature was manly. You grit your teeth as you sighed, watching them closely. “Okay, take your hood off, show me what kind of coward breaks into a house!” you replied, a little too loudly. They slowly took their hood down, you gasped, you felt like you had seen a ghost. “Steve?”.

First and foremost, I want you to know how proud of you I am. You have become the man you’ve said you become, the one I always knew you would. You have finally seen what the rest of us see.
A good man.
The soul you carry within you shines brighter than I’ve ever seen. Just for that only, I’m thankful for the time we’ve spent together. Maybe one day, I’ll be brave enough to tell you this without hiding behind the comfort of this notebook. She won’t spill my secrets, fortunate for me.
Some days you have no idea how badly I want to tell you. I think it’s on the days I discover a new fleck of green in your eyes or maybe when you show up to class with a cup of coffee for me without request.

It’s selfish of me, that much I know. More days than not, I would say you give too much of yourself away. Always wanting to appease everyone, you, Steven Rogers, the bridge to making the people around you happier than they walked in. Even when Bucky drags you into his nonsense bullshit, you say yes without hesitation.
I’ve got not a a clue on how you continue on, how you still remain you when you tend to spread yourself so thin. Who watches out for you? Who cares for you? Who loves the almighty, selfless Rogers?
For me, it’s much easier to pretend you carry too much on your plate than to deal with the rejection I would receive from you. You’re just too good, more than I deserve. More than I would be willing to take. I know I couldn’t possibly give you what you deserve but, I hope that one day you might see me differently. You would see me more than the light I’ve painted myself in.
Even though the shade is lovely, I want to be deeper. Deeper into you on a level which only seems unattainable at this point.

Tearing the page away from the binding of the overfilled notebook, dispensing it in the first empty drawer you could find, you abandoned the feelings as soon as the pen’s ink bleed out dry.
“You know it would just be easier to tell him how you feel.” You peaked up at the sound of her voice, before realizing she was looming over you, watching your write the letter.
Your supposed, secret letter.
“Nat, please. No.” Opening the drawer, she grabbed the letter but was surprised with just how many she found.
“You’ve got to be kidding me. You’ve written about him multiple times?” You sank in the soft, plush material of your seat hoping that just maybe it would begin to swallow you whole. Hopefully, fast enough were you wouldn’t have to endure the rest of the conversation. One you had been trying to avoid, for the past three years.
“It’s nothing Nat, just forget it.” Just like a Romanov, she couldn’t leave it alone. Even if she tried it was laced in her blood to see any little thing through.
“You really shouldn’t wait so long. A window might close for you, much sooner than you think.” With a curious eyebrow lifted, you felt your breath leave you.
“What does that supposed to mean?” Steve certainly deserved the best and you knew it was only time for him to figure out you would never be enough for him.
“Peggy Carter.” Peggy.
The one girl of a sea of many who had been enamored by Steve. He never really seemed to spend anytime with the women who vied for his attention, but Peggy was surely different than the rest.
Even if Steve was oblivious when it came to the advances everyone would make on him, he saw Peggy. Considering she was the most beautiful woman you had ever seen, she intimidated you. God, did she ever.
On numerous occasions she and Steve had gone out, and even though he assured you they were just friends you were starting to believe he was only trying to protect your feelings. As a friend.
He had never cancelled on you once for her and he would tell you if he had started to date someone, just like he had before.
Even though the entire three years you’d known him he only had one serious girlfriend and after eight months, the pair broke up and even now he still didn’t budge on why they broke up.
“Steve can do whatever he wants with her. He’s a single man. He’s gone out with her before and he’ll probably go with her again.” Then Sam was the next to speak up, dismissing the total bullshit spouting from your mouth.
“Can’t you see he doesn’t want to? The damn man follows you around like a goddamn puppy.” Okay, when did he even come in here?
“God, fuck, no he doesn’t. He would have said something by now, he’s had three years and it’s been nothing but radio silence.” With an all knowing smirk, Sam proposed a new concept into question.
“It has been three years. So, have you ever said anything to him?”
Shit. Fuck you, Wilson.
“W-Well, not exactly.” Sam didn’t have to say anything in response. You knew he was right and you hated it.
Your unwillingness still stood for you, there was just no way he actually would reciprocate your feelings.
“Listen, I think it would be really good for the both of you to air everything out. Peggy is sinking her claws in him and it isn’t too long before they get stuck. Just talk to him.” You nodded silently, but you weren’t sure if you’d ever have the courage to.
Emptiness.
It’s all you seemed to feel today. Following you around was a dark cloud, looming over you. Wishing you could be anywhere but your own body. Nothing in particular happened to make you deserve the feeling you were granted with. It just so happened to be one of those days.
From the moment you got out of bed — or rather stayed in bed until four in the afternoon, you felt like anything you would have done just didn’t feel enough. The feeling was fleeting, never staying for more than a day or so, but it made the day drag on. Never ending.
Your muscles sore, body aching from the lack of activity your presumed. Or maybe you had built it in your head too.
Thankfully for you, Nat was busy helping Bucky move into his new place the entire day. She asked if you wanted to help, but mentally you didn’t feel you would be useful for anyone. Simply, telling her you would hang back, claiming you had another an essay to write.
Which you did, you weren’t completely lying, but there was more than your sour mood to blame for your dismissal of social interaction.
You hated to be that girl, the one who needed the presence of men. Specifically, the company of one very beautiful, blue eyed one.
His absence in your life the past few weeks felt heavier on you than you thought it would. You knew from Sam’s intel he had been hanging out with Peggy more and more. He said the two of them were getting close, mercifully sparing you the details.
You hated it’s you’d become. A girl so damn struck over a boy who was giving his attention elsewhere. Upset you were though. Before even if he was busy between classes and his internship at the gallery, he would still text to check up on you.
Now, it was nothing but radio silence letting you draw conclusions on your own. Very, very dangerous territory for you to travel to.
Steve and you are just friends. Get. Over. It.
You thought you’d be alone the rest of the Saturday, especially since it was nearly midnight. Figuring Nat was staying over at Bucky’s and Wanda leaving earlier in early hours of the morning to see her boyfriend for the entire weekend.
Then, an incredibly drunk Steve stumbled into your quaint apartment, the thoughtfully sweetness in him blubbering out with the alcohol flooding through his system. It was like he was on overdrive. More than ready to crash at any given moment.
You had enough when Steve started shamelessly raiding your kitchen, but you remained on the couch attempting to maintain some distance between the two of you. He had a history of being incredibly handsy whenever he had bit too much to drink.
Stumbling his way over to you, almost tripping on the rug, until he was basically cuddling up to your side. His arms latched tightly around you, pulling you into him. Not spared a choice, not that you’d want one.
The security of being wrapped up to him wasn’t something you ever grew tired of. You don’t think there would ever be a time you would ever be capable of turning him away.
“I’ve missed you. It’s been too long.” His soft tone, penetrating the tiny resistance you held towards him. “Me too. I was starting to think you disappeared on me, bubba.”
“Never.” His iron grip holding so tight like he was afraid you’d slip right through.
“Is everything alright?” Trying to pull from him, but Steve seemed unable to let you go. You whispered in his ear, caressing his back.
“I think so.”
“Here, let me grab you cup of joe and some water. Okay? I’ll be right back.” Leaving him a kiss on the cheek, before heading him into the kitchen.
If you had been around him recently, perhaps you would be more in tune with how he was feeling. Then the guilt sept in.
“Sweetheart, do you know where the phone charger is? It’s not by the recliner.” You heard him shout, trying to stop your heart from hammering into your stomach.
Just make him some coffee, sober him up, until he crashes.
Steve always seemed to be a lightweight and somehow whenever he did decide to drink he always found himself routing his way into your home. You thought it was simply for accident alone. The bar he frequented at was only a few block from you.
The past few times he would just stumble into your bedroom, immediately passing out in your soft, silky sheet. Now, he seemed to have more pressing matters at hand.
“Check the drawers, Stevie. I think there’s one you left around here somewhere.” You grabbed the filters and the grounds out, brewing the coffee. Soon, with a black cup of coffee and a water bottle in hand you took note of just how quite he was being.
He was never this silent and it was freaking you out.
“Are you sure you’re o-”
Just like that.

Hunched over, practically on his knees, he read over the endless letters you wrote about him. Confessions never meant to be seen by him. You lost track of how many you had written over the past few years once realized how irrevocably in love with him you are.
He didn’t realize you had found him and you were suddenly paralyzed. Unaware of your presence he continued to read through them and his expression was unrecognizable. One you’d never seen from him before, and you didn’t quite know how to react.
No. He wasn’t grimacing nor did he seem to be elated either. He just stood there just like you, afraid what would happen next.
What did this mean for the two of you? Your entire relationship was purely riding on whatever happened next.
Softly, with a gentle hand, he sifted through them all like he was looking for something specifically. Steve let them fall to the hardwood floors as your shaking hands could no longer support the weight of the dainty coffee cup he had actually sculpted himself.
The glass shattering everywhere, several pieces making their way towards him, thankfully not fiercely enough to penetrate his skin.
Truly, you had never been more sorry than when he looked up at you with tears in his eyes. Threatening to spill over. Because of you.
You didn’t have to be told, you already knew.
Carefully, Steve stood up making his way over to you around the shattered mug. Still you couldn’t bring yourself to move. Simply just watching him until he was right in front of you — more silent than you’d ever seen him before.
“Those were about me. Weren’t they?” You nodded having no reason to lie other than to protect yourself from a rejection you been hoping to spare yourself from.
“I didn’t want you to find out like this. Or at all really.” Your resolve dropping instantly when Steve took a step further gripping by your hips, pulling you closer.
“Why not?” He questioned you, again. Almost like he needed a verbal affirmation of every secret he had just read.
Unintentionally, stealing your soul served for him on a silver platter.
“I know how you’d feel about me, Steve. It’s not how I want it to be and it’s okay.” You remove yourself from him, traveling to the other side of the living room. Suddenly, the apartment seemed suffocating with him in it. “I’m fine, Steve.”
Hearing him sigh in frustration only furthered your immense feeling of being a burden to him.
You’re just one more obstacle he has to deal with.
“One of them dated back for over two years ago. Two fucking years.” His harsh tone, piercing through you like a knife.
“I know. I should have told you.” You whispered, wishing you could disappear into any abyss that would take you. Deeply wishing you just didn’t have to endure for the rest of this conversation. Wishing you could have stopped him from opening that stupid drawer. “I tell you everything, but I just couldn’t bring myself to speak about this. Look at how you’re reacting? How could you blame me when every fear I have about this is justified?”
You really should have kept those elsewhere, not your open, public living room.
“Because it’s us. I’m always here for you.” He was still crying through broken words and you didn’t know why. Almost like you had shattered his resolve and his control leaving with it.
“Not lately. You’ve been otherwise occupied.” Suddenly find the plant in the corner of the room. It certainly weren’t trying to distract yourself from the insatiable cerulean eyes.
The breathtaking british woman wasn’t even here and as soon as she was brought up — there was a wall. Seperating, you from whatever was between the two of you.
“This isn’t my fault. You never said anything. How was I supposed to know you feel that way about me?” He tried to make his way towards you but you just stalked off in the other direction. Circling around the living room like a coward.
“It didn’t matter though, did it? You found someone perfect for you regardless of how you feel.” God, you wish he would just leave so you could let the dam break.
“No. You don’t get to do that. Since the moment I met you I only had eyes for you, but you never seemed like you were interested. So, I dropped it. Okay? You never left me a crumb to think you would ever want to be more than just friends.”
“You were my best friend. You still are. No matter how I felt, it could never outweigh the need I have for you to be in my life.” He sighed, rubbing his hands over his face. Trying to figure out what was next for the both of you. Steve always had to initiate and this time was no different.
“Peggy told me tonight she wants to be exclusive.” His confession washing over you like a ton of bricks. Crushing you.
You really couldn’t have any ill feeling towards her, she was just doing what you lacked the courage and the tenacity to do.
“But I didn’t really know what to do.” He took quiet steps towards you, not wanting to spook you. He voice not no longer held the a warmth of teddy bear, but a man on a mission rather took over.
Steve kept quiet until he had you backed up into a corner, no escape route in vision for you.
“’Cause there’s this other beautiful woman, absolutely breathtaking — and I just I really needed to know how she felt. If I had known before,  I never would have gone anywhere else.” His hand caressing your soft, plump lips. Pulling on your bottom lip with his thumb, sending you into a frenzy.
“Then, I just wanted to forget about everything until Sam called me. Three beers deep, when he told me of a drawer filled with letters I should take a look at.” You could feel his breath on you, temple pressed against yours.
“I just need to hear you say it. Just once.” Taking it a step forward, intertwining your finger with his own.
“I love you.” It was all he needed as he sealed his own affirmation with a sweet kiss, inking your lips with all of his love.

 Ever since you were a child, you had always found it strange that one’s family could determine their fates. Granted there were people who could break that cycle and choose what they wanted to do with their lives, but nearly no one around you had been that lucky, including you.
When your father had moved here decades ago, he had used up to his last penny to buy a pub and turned it into a bakery, and only after buying it he had realized that it wasn’t some kind of luck that it had been so cheap. The problem was the location and as he had been informed by two men who dropped by the next day after the opening, the bakery was built on the neutral ground, right in the middle of these gang territories. Each family ruled a different part of the city, and the neutral ground was off limits, so whenever the gangs needed to make sure that they wouldn’t get shot or ambushed, they would meet up there.
Pub served a better purpose, but even they had to admit, a bakery looked much less suspicious.
At first you didn’t even know. You were just a child after all, and your father had made sure to usher you back to the kitchen or to the backyard whenever certain people showed up, and you had never protested because as far as you were concerned when you were six years old, all grown-ups did was talk about boring things and glare at each other. But one of those days when you were sitting on the stairs at the back of the bakery, trailing the spoon in the bowl full of cake batter you had stolen from the kitchen, a boy with bright blue eyes and dark hair walked to the backyard.
“What are you eating?”
You looked up from the bowl, making him stifle a laugh at the sight of the cake batter all over your face and you looked behind you to check your father was nowhere to be seen, then held up the bowl,
“Do you want some?”
“What’s that?”
“Peach cake batter,” you said, “Daddy says it makes you sick if you eat too much but it’s delicious.”
He frowned, “Cake doesn’t make you sick.”
“It does if it’s unbaked. It gives you—“ you thought for a moment, trying to remember what it was called. “It gives you salmons you see.”
“Salmon is a fish.”
“Yeah,” you nodded, “Exactly. It – it makes fish in your stomach, so they make you sick.”
He didn’t look like he believed you, but didn’t say anything as he took the spoon you offered him and dug it into the batter before taking it into his mouth.
“Daddy says customers aren’t supposed to be here.” You said and he shrugged his shoulders.
“My dad is making a deal in there, and I got bored waiting in the car with his men,” he mumbled before he gave you the spoon back “Will you tell them I’m here?”
You smiled at him brightly and shook your head,
“No.” you said, and offered him your hand because you were sure that was what you were supposed to do when you met someone new, “I’m Y/N.”
“James Buchanan Barnes,” he shook your hand and you scrunched up your face.
“That’s a lot.”
He grinned at you, “You can call me Bucky,” he said, “Everyone else does.”
“Miss?” you were pulled out of your thoughts when the woman waiting at the door motioned at you, “Arms up please.”
Right. Of course.
Everyone had to be checked for weapons when they walked into the Barnes household, especially in times like these. You held up the tray so that she could pat you down and once she was sure you weren’t carrying any weapons, she took a look under the foil to see what was in it and let you pass. You tried not to get distracted by the huge house, that familiar pang shooting into your heart at how different it was from your small apartment, but you shook your head and walked into the living room to put the tray next to other food before pulling the aluminum foil off to ball it in your hands. The house was packed with so many people, all there to pay their respects for the deceased mob boss or get on his son Bucky’s good side, since he was about to take over the family business.  
Or to make sure their alliances continued. 
But the one thing you knew about everyone in this room? They were not to be crossed.
Out of the corner of your eye, you could see Steve Rogers sitting beside Rebecca Barnes, Bucky’s sister who was uncharacteristically silent as she stared into space. She muttered something to Steve and he nodded, heaving a sigh and squeezing her hand as if to assure her everything was going to be alright. Tony Stark was by the corner of the room with James Rhodes, speaking in hushed whispers and Natasha Romanoff looked to be in a serious discussion with Sam Wilson as they walked past you.
“I get what you’re saying but it doesn’t change anything in terms of business, Bucky knows that.”
“Doesn’t it? I’ve never had to be checked for weapons at the door until now.”
“It’s a funeral, Nat.” Sam said, “You know it as much as I do that not everyone is here to give their condolences. You’ve seen Winnifred.”
“She just lost her husband, and she’s not the person I’ll do business with, her son is.” Natasha said, “Did you talk to Bucky after the meeting?”
“You know what he’s like.”
You could feel your heart skipping a beat but you scolded yourself in your head, it definitely wasn’t the time for this. You looked around for a trashcan, but of course there was none so you turned around in hopes of finding one outside the huge living room, but crashed into a hard body. He grabbed at your shoulders to help you regain your balance and your eyes snapped up to see who it was, ready to apologize but the words got caught in your throat.
He looked as handsome as you had last seen him. You could feel your heart beating in your ears and his blue eyes searched your face, slowly withdrawing his hand.
“Bucky.” You swallowed thickly, “Hi.”
He stared at you for a couple of seconds, then shook his head as if trying to snap out of his thoughts and motioned at the table.
“Are those black cupcakes?”
Right.
Yeah, that wasn’t the best idea.
“I just,” you cleared your throat, “I figured I couldn’t bring his favorite cake, because cake is for…happier times so I figured, cupcakes—but it’s a funeral so that’s why they’re black.” You let out a breath, closing your eyes for a moment, “I’m being nonsense. I’m sorry for your loss.”
He shifted his weight as if he didn’t want to think about it which was expected because this was probably the hundredth time he was hearing this. You strained your mind to come up with something to say, but before you could find anything he reached out to grab one of the cupcakes to take a bite and nodded at the door.
“Follow me.”
Okay, what was happening?
You didn’t get to ask him as he walked upstairs with you following him closely and he entered one of the rooms in the huge hall. You looked around as you stepped in after him, it looked like some sort of an office with a big mahogany desk, a library and a comfortable couch. The room alone was probably half the size of your whole apartment but you tried to pull yourself together.
“It’s so loud in the living room, impossible to get anything done.” he leaned back to the table, “How’s your dad?”
“He has some health issues.” You said, making him raise his brows “Nothing serious, it’s just…he can’t really stand for so long, and he’s getting older, you know? I took over the bakery a while ago so that he could rest and all.”
He gawked at you, “You did?”
“Yeah.”
“Why did no one tell me?”
“I don’t know,” you confessed, “It’s no big deal, really. He sends his condolences by the way.”
He nodded slowly and you bit inside your cheek to stop yourself from laughing at the sight of the new yet intimidating mob boss holding a cupcake.
“I wanted to tell you,” he cleared his throat, “Even if my father is dead, the deal still stands between him and your dad. Nobody touches the bakery, it’s the neutral ground so you don’t need to worry—“
“Bucky, I’m not here for that.” You interrupted him and he looked almost taken aback.
“What?”
“I’m not here to ask for something or talk about deals, I’m here to pay my respects. Your father was always nice to me and I will miss him, that’s the least I could do.”
He blinked a couple of times in confusion and something told you this was the first time he was hearing something like that without a request following it.
“Oh.” He turned his head to grab the glass of whiskey on the desk which made you think he had been closing deals left and right since the morning at the same office and it probably wasn’t his first glass of the day.
“Would you want some?”
“No thank you.” You said as you watched him down it in one gulp and you shifted your weight, nibbling on your lip.
“Let me guess,” you said softly, “Business doesn’t wait for funerals to end, huh?”
He lowered his gaze, his rings tapping against the glass as he heaved a shaky sigh.
“It really doesn’t.” he murmured but something in his voice was so barely held together that your body moved before you could realize what you were doing. You wrapped your arms around his neck, pulling him into a hug and it was only when his body froze against yours that you realized what you had just done. You were just about to pull back and apologize when you felt his arms sneaking around your body, holding you tight and if you didn’t know any better, you would’ve thought he had pressed his nose into your hair to inhale deeply.
“Do you need anything?” you asked when you pulled back and a small smile graced his lips for the first time.
“No,” he murmured, “Thanks peaches.”
Ah.
That nickname again.
You had almost forgotten about it.
“How’s your uh…” he pinched the bridge of his nose, “How’s your fiancé?”
Your smile faded slightly as it dawned on you, “My-? Oh right, you don’t know. We broke up a couple of months ago.”
His head shot up, “What?”
“Yeah.” You shrugged your shoulders, “He sort of- well, not sort of, he cheated on me, so….”
He frowned. “You should’ve told me.”
“Why?”
“I would’ve sent someone around.”
A small laughter escaped from your lips and you shook your head.
“Bucky, you can’t get a guy beaten up because he cheated on me.”
“Sounds like he deserved it though.”
“No way.” you said, “It’s fine. How about you? Do you…?” you trailed off, and it wasn’t fair that your heart skipped a beat while waiting for an answer, not at all.
“Do I have a fiancée?” Bucky finished the question for you and chuckled, “No.”
“It doesn’t have to be a fiancée.” You said, “You know… a significant other.”
He tilted his head, that amused smile playing on his lips and you scrunched up your face.
“You know what, I’m prying. Just ignore me okay? It’s not a good thing to talk about at a funeral—“
“Peaches, I’ve been listening to people talk about money, deals, or their memories about my father the whole day. Trust me, this…slice of normalcy feels better than you could ever imagine.”
You looked up at into his bloodshot eyes, something in your stomach twisting painfully before you licked at your lips.
“Alright,” you said, “Normalcy then?”
“Yes please.”
“I came up with a new cupcake the other day,” you said, “I mean I’m sure I didn’t come up with it, but I tried it by myself and it’s pretty good, you know?”
“Will it give me salmons?” he asked and you shot him a look, trying to hide your surprise that he still remembered that.
“No.” you said, “It’s a bourbon cupcake, all those moms on Pinterest will worship me.”
He blinked a couple of times and held up the half-eaten cupcake,
“There’s a cupcake out there that can make me drunk and I’m eating a non-alcoholic one on my father’s funeral?” he deadpanned “When did you become so cruel?”
Your jaw dropped and you bit down a smile.
“You should be careful,” you said, “I know a guy who can send people around if someone is mean to me.”
He grinned and held up his hands, mocking surrender.
“I know a threat when I hear one,” he said and someone cleared their throat by the door, making you look over your shoulder to see Steve leaning against the doorframe.
“Sorry for interrupting,” he said, “Sam needs to talk to you Buck.”
“Right now?” Bucky stole a look at you and you waved a hand in the air,
“It’s okay, I gotta get Em from school anyway, I should go.”
Bucky pulled his brows together,
“Your sister goes to school now?” he asked, “Wasn’t she a toddler like yesterday?”
“She’s in first grade now Bucky.”
“Jesus Christ I’m getting old.” He muttered to himself, making Steve chuckle.
“You’ve just realized that?” he asked and you smiled at Bucky.
“Take care, okay?”
“You too. Thanks for…being here.” His eyes searched yours, “Send your dad my regards.”
“Will do.” You said and nodded at Steve before walking out of the room, your cheeks still burning.
All the way to Emma’s school, you couldn’t ignore the way your heart was slamming against your chest, and you bit at your lip, trying to focus on something else, anything else. You took a deep breath, and turned your head when the door to passenger seat opened and Emma got in the car.
“Hi!” she smiled at you brightly and put her seatbelt on, “I have no homework today!”
You let out a small laugh, “Is that right?” you asked and she nodded.
“Can we go and see the aquarium? Please? Please please please? They say there’s a whale there, a huge one!”
“Okay, okay…” you raised your brows, “Breathe, and yes we can go see the aquarium.”
“Then after aquarium can we have a tea party?”
“You might have to wait for that, kiddo.” You winked at her, “I need to drop by the bakery.”
“Wait, then I can come to the bakery too,” she said, “I can help, you said you would let me help if I got a star.”
“Did you get a star?”
“I will!” she insisted, making you smile at her fondly and you hmmed.
“You can help me yes, but you can’t eat what we’re making, okay? Not this time, I’ll give you a cookie instead.”
She pursed her lips, frowning. “Why not?”
You started the car, your stomach making a pleasant flip before you turned the steering wheel.
“Because Em,” you muttered, “We’re making grown up cupcakes for a friend.”

- Good morning everybody! - he says with his hands resting on his belt. - As you know we have a big job today. And if everything goes according to plan, we will be back home in a few days.
The camp lets out an exclamation of contentment, and you smile at Wanda who is at the other end.
- I want everyone to be careful when we are on the Braithwaites' property. - Steve continued seriously. - Hold the position as we have planned. If anything gets out of hand, and we have to shoot our way out, we will protect each other and not the gold.
The gang lets out an exclamation of agreement, and after going over the last details, Steve releases you all with a nod.
You walk toward the fire, wishing you could eat some before you have to leave.
Pietro jumps on your shoulder just as you are reaching for some food, and you almost knock over the bowl, grumbling softly.
- I am so excited to be rich! - He announces with a smile that makes you laugh.
- I imagine you are. - You scoff slightly as you finish serving yourself. You walk toward the fire and he follows. - Aren't you going to eat?
- No, I don't like to be on a full stomach before a shooting. - He says and you shrug. Pietro doesn't sit down, he just rests his leg on one of the logs that are used as a chair. - By the way, I can't wait to get back to New Austin. It is very cold here.
You laugh lightly as you eat, without answering. Pietro doesn't mind your silence, though. Natasha joins you next, sitting next to you, also carrying a bowl of food.
- I hear that Steve is going to buy land for us. - She announces and you and Pietro look at her in surprise, but she smiles. - Who knew we would become ranchers at the end of it all.
The three of you laugh lightly, and you are distracted as you think about the possibility. It seems like a very unlikely dream to happen.
- Can I make a comment about you and Wanda or should I wait until you finish eating? - Natasha asked ironically a moment later, and you held back your laughter because you didn't want to choke on your food. Pietro looked at you curiously, and noticing his expression, Natasha let out a wry chuckle. - Pietro, Pietro, you cannot tell me that you did not notice that your sister did not sleep in the tent tonight?
Pietro blinked in confusion, and then he understood and let out a surprised exclamation.
- My God, I'm going to be an uncle!
- Shut up, boy. - You mumbled awkwardly, while Natasha laughed. Pietro also laughed. Then Wanda joined you, accompanied by Monica, and the girls looked at you curiously.
- You guys are happy today, huh? - Monica commented with a smile. You exchanged a look with Wanda.
- Pietro is an idiot, and Nat thinks it's funny. - You clarify when they both stop laughing. Monica smiles at you before sitting down. And then Wanda is turning around the trunk, and sitting on your lap. You ignore the uncompensated beating of your heart and the insinuating glances you receive, putting the bowl down and kissing her on the cheek.
You eventually embark on a conversation about your latest heists over the next few minutes, until Steve is calling everyone out.
Your friends get up first, and when you are alone by the fire, Wanda gives you a kiss on the mouth that takes the air out of your lungs.
- Be careful, okay? - she says as she lets go, and you just smile and nod as she gets up.
Then you walk towards the whole group at the entrance to the camp. Steve signals for you all to get on your horses, and you all hurry to do so.
When you are mounted on your mare, Pietro mounts the sorrel beside you.
- What's up, partner? - He asks with a smile, and you nod.
- Care to place a bet, partner? - You reply with a certain irony and Pietro assumes a thoughtful expression.
- I bet I can find more gold than you can. - He declares after a moment, making you laugh. But before you can respond, Steve is ordering you to ride, and you just exchange a glance with Pietro before galloping off.
It doesn't take long before you reach the mansion area, and you turn your head back to observe Steve, Peggy and Nat riding at a distance, and then turning the corner, as they would enter through the secondary entrance. And then you exchanged a look with Wanda and Monica who came up behind you before putting on their masks and dismounting from the horse.
You patted Pietro on the shoulder as he got off, signaling for him to be quiet, and then you led your horses by the reins through the terrain.
A few moments later you came within a good distance of the mansion, and tied your horses to the trees in the garden area.
And then the four of you entered the house quietly through one of the windows on the side. You looked around the room, it was absolutely gorgeous. But then Monica signaled for everyone to be quiet and you heard voices. Exchanging a look with Pietro, you went off in opposite directions and then attacked the guards in the front room afterwards, silently knocking them out.
- Does anyone know where the chamber is? - You heard Pietro whisper to you, but then you heard the sound of gunfire, and turned your head quickly in the direction behind you.
Running to the door, you let out a surprised exclamation as you noticed Steve, Peggy and Natasha riding at high speed from the back grounds, their guns drawn as they fired at the guards, who fired back.
- I guess so much for the element of surprise. - You comment, and then exchange a look with the other three. - All right, split up and search every room.
The group nods and then you are running in the wide area of the mansion, doing your best not to get lost. The exchange of fire continues intensely outside, and you draw your own pistol since you no longer have to be silent.
You look at least three empty rooms before something catches your eye. It's a huge painting at the end of a corridor, the image of a stern-looking woman staring back at you. You run your fingers over the phrase "We prosper" painted at the top of the painting and frown slightly.
- Apologies to the artists. - You comment softly as you pull out your knife and stick it into the painting, tearing it apart. You eventually realize that you could have pushed the item, because when you tear the canvas, there is a false base. And you lean your fingers on the frame to pull, and you end up revealing a vault the size of the painting in the back.
The glint of gold bars makes you let out a surprised exclamation. And then you reach out, touching the items to make sure they are real. There were at least ten gold bars, along with several shiny jewels and papers that you guessed were property titles. You really had made it.
Whistling to reveal your location to the group, it took a moment for them to join you, and you smiled, making room for them to see the small inventory. Pietro let out an excited exclamation as he hurried toward you, pulling the bag he carried on his back, while Monica did the same.
While they were carrying the items, you and Wanda moved in the opposite direction, keeping watch. Eventually two guards appeared, but you shot them quickly.
- All set folks! - announced Pietro, turning to you with a smile, and then you nodded, moving toward the exit, where the shooting was most intense.
You and Wanda hid behind the entrance pillars, trying to look around. You noticed Thor at the entrance crouched down and exchanging fire with three other guards, while Steve and Peggy were further away, still on their horses and being followed by other guards. You had no view of Natasha, but judging by the sound of gunfire, she must have been in the opposite direction from Thor.
- Everything okay there, Odinson? - you shouted to the blond man a few meters ahead of you. He let out a laugh before shouting again.
- Everything under control!
And then you were shooting, and you managed to hit one of the guards who was holding Thor's position. And he exclaimed in thanks, getting up only to hit the last one.
- We need to get to the horses before the reinforcements get here! - Thor said as you ran up to him. You nodded in agreement, following him in the same direction as you had come, and Natasha joined you halfway.
When you finally reached your horses, at the moment extremely agitated because of the gunshot noise, Thor asked you all to hurry. And then you heard a gunshot, and an exclamation of pain. Turning your head quickly to the side, you held Pietro before he fell to the ground.
A guard had come out from inside the mansion, a rifle in one hand. But Thor hit him next, and then you were looking at your friend.
- Wow hey, I got you. - You said, trying to keep him steady. You didn't know where the shot had hit. He whimpered breathlessly, becoming very heavy and falling to the ground beside you. - Pietro! Pietro, look at me!
And then Wanda was beside you, touching her brother on the chest. You looked down at his torso, and noticed the pool of blood on his belly, and let out an exclamation. But then Thor was running up to you, and caught Pietro, throwing his arm around his shoulders and waving you toward the wagons at the end of the lot.
- Don't stop. - He said as you stood up, ignoring the trembling of your hand and helping Wanda to stand despite her shock, and ran toward them.
Monica and Natasha hit the last guards there, and while Thor put Pietro in one of the wagons, Steve and Peggy rode up to you.
- There is a group of them approaching from the south. - said Steve. - We have to get out of here.
- My God, Pietro! - exclaimed Peggy as soon as they got close enough to see you guys. But Thor waved.
- He'll be fine if we get him out of here. - He said, moving in the wagon to take up the rear. - Get after your horses.
He told you, but you and Wanda both denied it with your heads.
- We're going to stay with him. - You said, climbing into the wagon and helping Wanda up next. Thor let out a sigh and sped up the horses. Nat waved at you lightly before turning in the opposite direction.
The rocking of the wagon seemed to cause Pietro even more pain, but Wanda was pressing on the wound as you held his hand. The boy was pale and sweaty, but had a faint smile on his lips.
- Hey. - he called breathlessly. - Don't worry girls. I'm going to be the best man, remember? I can't miss the wedding.
You laugh lightly, holding back the tears in your eyes. Pietro let out a grunt of pain, and you asked him to stop struggling to speak. And then you turned your head to Wanda, and placed your free hand on top of hers.
- We're going to be all right, love. - You said. - We take care of each other.
Thick tears streamed down Wanda's cheeks, but she smiled.
- And you and I take care of Pietro. - She replied, looking away of you to look at him for a moment, as if begging him to get better.
It didn't take long to reach the camp again, and then Thor was hurrying to get out and carry Pietro.
Wanda followed him toward the medical tent, where Thor placed her brother on the first empty gurney, while you ran to call Tony and Bruce to help him. They looked surprised, but hurried to accompany you.
They were quick to assist Pietro, and asked the three of you to leave the tent so they would have room to work. Wanda was trembling when you reached for her hands and gently pulled her out.
- Wanda, he'll be okay. - You told her, and then she was nodding, thick tears streaming down her cheeks. You sighed, looking down at your bloody hands. - Let's get you cleaned up.
Wanda looked like she was in shock, so she just nodded. You gently pulled her toward the supply hut that had a makeshift sink. You took a wet cloth to wipe the blood from her hands.
When you were finished, she looked up at you.
- What am I going to do if... - She choked on a sob. - He can't die.
You felt your heart race, and rushed to wipe the tears from her face. And then you hugged Wanda tight, hoping she would relax. - It's all right, love. He'll be all right.
It took a few minutes for Wanda to calm down, but you kept your embrace tight against her.
- Thank you. - She whispered against your skin, and you smiled without letting go.
- Anytime.
When Steve returned to camp with the rest of the group, he ran to where you and Wanda were sitting in front of the medical tent. Bruce and Tony still had the tent closed, and you had an arm around Wanda.
- So? How is he? - he asked with concern. Natasha squeezed your hand gently as she came to your side.
- He is going to be fine. - Informed Thor who had already wiped the blood from himself. - Stark and Banner are stitching him up.
Steve let out a sigh of relief, and then he assumed a serious posture.
- We can't stay here. - He said. - Not after robbing that family. We need to move as fast as possible before-
- Everyone knows that. - You cut him off with irritability. - Can you at least pretend to be concerned about Pietro?
- That's not what I meant. - He retorts seriously, and you think about answering, but Nat is squeezing your hand gently, and you don't want to fight now. - I will prepare everything with Potts and Wilson. When he is ready, we will leave.
And then Steve walked toward Pepper's cabin, and Peggy followed him. You sighed impatiently.
Fortunately, a moment later, Stark opened the tent. He smiled at you, and you felt your body relax.
- It's okay, everybody. - he announced. - He just needs to rest now.
Wanda let out a sigh of relief, and you released your arm from around her waist as she walked toward the tent. Bruce left as she went inside. You thought it best to give them some time alone.
You decided to help the others dismantle the camp while she was in there.
In the final adjustments to stow the tents in the wagons, you heard the sound of galloping approaching. Bucky was back, and he looked happy.
- So, how did it go on the reservation? - You asked as soon as he had dismounted and walked over to you, helping you to carry one of the boxes to the wagon you were in.
- It was fine. - He said with a smile. - T'Challa sent you a thanks gift by the way.
You blinked in surprise, and as soon as he finished loading the box, he went through his pockets. And handed you a small package. But you didn't even have time to look, Steve rushed you out loud the next second.
And then you returned to the medical cabin, and Pietro was getting up with Thor's help, he was clearly in pain, but forced a smile when you walked over to him.
You helped Thor carry him by the shoulders to one of the wagons you had, where you were able to set up a makeshift bed for him. And he was grateful when you left him there.
You returned to the medical hut to help Thor dismantle it, and when you were finished, you walked toward Pietro's cart.
- I'll ride behind you guys, okay? - You told him and Wanda, who was sitting next to him. - We can't fit all three of us in there.
Wanda smiled and moved in for a slow kiss on your lips, which made your stomach turn with anxiety. But she pulled away and sat back down.
You turned back toward your mare, which one of the gang members had brought back, and mounted.
Taking one last look at where the camp used to be, you began to follow the caravan.
The caravan was riding at high speed, and at some point Maria began to sing, and it didn't take long for the other members to follow her. You smiled slightly as you murmured the song, and then you remembered T'Challa's gift.
Rummaging through your pockets looking for the package, you held it carefully in your hands. There was a small piece of paper next to the small package, and you took it first.
"This was on your family memorial. Longevity on your journey, outlaw" was written in cursive letters. You smiled, opening the package. You let out a low exclamation of surprise when you noticed the small Indian jewelry. It was a bronze ring, with something shiny, maybe a small diamond in front. It was very beautiful. You put it back on for fear of dropping it while riding. Ignoring the feeling that you would like to put it on someone else's finger.
You rode for many days towards New Austin, and it was extremely tiring. The rare moments that you caught a glimpse of Wanda were during the stops for bathing and resting, where you were surrounded by other members. You missed touching and kissing her, but you also missed just her company. You couldn't wait to get home.
Just as you were getting tired of mentally complaining about the distance, Steve whistled announcing for you all to stop. You cocked your head to the side to look beyond the wagons and caught a glimpse of the entrance to the Blackwater region. It took a few more minutes, but the caravan finally stopped in a deserted but very beautiful lowland area.
You smiled at Wanda before riding up to Steve.
- I need to talk to you. - You told him as soon as he waved the direction for the caravan to stop, and he shook his head in understanding. You rode a little way past where the wagons had stopped, and dismounted from your horses.
- What is it, child? - he asked tenderly as you walked together around the plain.
You sighed wearily, and when you reached the edge of the cliff, you spoke.
- I can't do this anymore Steve. - You told him, and he frowned in confusion. You swallowed hard before you clarified. - Seeing Pietro like that, just made me realize how tired I am of this life. I never want that to happen to Wanda. - You say. - I don't want to be in danger all the time anymore, I want to rest. And I want a home, and a quiet life.
Steve looks at you for a few seconds, and then smiles, looking away briefly. Then he puts his hand on your shoulder.
- I understand perfectly what you say. - he says with a smile. - I'll tell the gang about it, okay? If they accept, we'll buy land and live together. If not, you take your share of the blow and go live your life with your wife.
You nod, blushing slightly, and then hug Steve. He hugs you tightly back, and when you let go, he pats your arm before walking back to the wagons. You take a deep breath, getting used to the temperature of the area.
A few minutes pass while you are admiring your surroundings, and then someone hugs you, startling you slightly. You smile when you realize that it is Wanda's arms around your waist.
- Hey. - You greet her with a smile, turning your body to kiss her lightly on the lips.
- Hey. - She says back with a smile as you let go. - What's on your mind?
- You. - You tell her by placing your hands on her cheeks. She blinks in surprise, blushing.
- Is that so?
You make a noise of agreement, kissing her again. Wanda smiles against your lips. And then you pull away, swallowing your nervousness.
- I told Steve that I can't be an outlaw anymore. - You say, and Wanda looks at you in mild surprise.
- Really? - She asks and you nod, then she frowns. - Are you... Are you leaving?
You giggle, raising an eyebrow.
- Maybe... - You say and start stroking her cheek with your thumb. Wanda blinks in concern. You ignore the uneven beating of her heart. - I told him I wanted to live a quiet life. With you.
- Oh. - Wanda exclaims in surprise, blushing and then smiles, biting her lip slightly. - Are you serious?
You smile, nodding, and then Wanda kisses you. Slow and delicious. You feel your face heat up. She breaks the kiss soon after, however, and you are nervous, but you let the words escape as your foreheads are pressed together.
- Marry me.
Wanda lets out a sigh, and her hands squeeze your waist. She kisses you again, but it doesn't last long because she is smiling, and then laughing, and you follow her, feeling that your chest is going to explode with happiness.
- Of course I'll marry you. - She declares, kissing you quickly and then depositing several kisses on your face, which makes you smile and blush. And then she is hugging you tight.
You stand like this for a few minutes, and then you hear Steve calling to you from a distance. You separate from Wanda with a groan, and she laughs, giving you one last kiss as you walk back to the wagon area together.
- Y/N, I just talked to everyone. - Steve says as soon as you arrive, and he looks pleased. - We have agreed to buy land in Hannigan's Stead area or somewhere in the New Austin area. Maybe a small ranch, but big enough to fit all of us. - He told you, and you smiled wryly, feeling very happy that your family was going to be on your side. Seeing your posture, Steve walked over to you and put his hand on your shoulder. - We stay together, kid. Always.
You smiled, and hugged him. And then the other members were letting out a chorus of happiness, and joining you two in the hug.
Steve and Peggy went to the town of Blackwater to buy the land while you stayed temporarily in that area. When they returned with the certificate of purchase, you had to ride again for a few more days.
You think you were smiling the whole way, but you didn't care.
When you finally arrived in Hannigan 's Stead region, the caravan was parked in the lowland area, it was a good spot, and had a lake a few yards away.
- Okay, I guess this means that we will have to build our own personal house. - Steve commented with a smile, dismounting from his horse. The caravan was parked in the corner of the lot and you had a very large empty space.
- We had enough money to buy the materials and if we follow the pre-assembly, I think we will be fine. - Peggy said.
It took a few hours for the material wagons to get from Blackwater to where you all were but when they finally arrived, you got to work. Pepper and Monica set up a small temporary camp in the caravan area while the ranch was not ready.
For the next few weeks, you spent your days helping the gang build a house, while dividing your time between sharing a tent with Wanda, playing and swimming in the nearby lake, and spending the afternoon lifting wooden pillars and hammering.
When the ranch was up, you had a party. And you danced with Wanda all night long.
Pietro was up the day before the ranch was finished, and he made you guarantee that he would have a room with a nice view in the window. You threatened to throw the hammer down on him if he kept bugging you.
You knew it would take time for things to work out properly, but as long as you had Wanda by your side, you were satisfied.
You married Wanda in the spring, a few weeks after you built the stable area next to the ranch. She wore a wreath, and you placed your family ring on her finger while she wiped your tears with her free hand. Steve and Pietro were also crying at the ceremony. When Nat joked that Pietro was a crybaby, he said he was just thrilled at how handsome he looked in a suit, and everyone laughed. You and Wanda escaped to the lake area during the party, and she kissed you until all the air was out of your lungs.
- Are you happy? - She asked a moment later, when you two were hugging laying the grass.
- You have no idea how much, dear. - You answered with a smile, leaving your hands on her waist. - And you?
- Yes. - She confesses a little breathlessly. - I love you.
- I love you too, Wanda.
And you kissed her, you two smiling against each other's mouths. You think her hand was dangerously slipping down your back, but she was your wife now, she could do as she wished.

(Just one last note - there is one scene with a little spicy quip but it doesn’t get in any way explicit :))
“I’m home!” Finn called as he came through the door to their apartment, duffle bag falling off his shoulder and crashing into the door.
“Wow.” Logan commented, coming over to help him. “Home for less than a minute and you’re already trying to wreck the place.”
“Oh hush.” Finn said, dropping his bags and pulling Logan in by the waist. “Hello to you too.”
Logan grinned and went soft, leaning into Finn’s kiss. “How was Alex?”
They moved away from the door to the couch, Logan setting Finn’s bag aside to be dealt with later. 
“Good, Kase and Nat are going out to see him in a few days so he was all excited.” 
Logan laughed, kicking off his shoes to curl his feet under him. “Now that I get.”
Finn smiled and glanced around. “Where’s Leo?”
“He just had to pop out to the shop. We’re out of milk. He should be back soon though.”
Finn nodded, looking down at his hands, fiddling with his fingernails. “Hey Lo?”
“Yeah?”
“I was thinking about… well what if… So like, you know Cap and Loops, right?”
Logan raised an eyebrow. “Our teammates? Yeah I think I’m vaguely familiar with them.”
Finn huffed, rolling his eyes. “Wow sassy. You know that’s not what I meant.”
Logan tilted his head to the side in acquiescence, letting Finn continue. 
“I want to be like them.” Finn said quickly. “Can we be like them?”
He watched Logan frown for a moment, trying to figure out the difference between Remus and Cap and them. “Wait,” He murmured, eyes meeting Finn’s. “Do you mean?”
Finn nodded. “Yeah. I think maybe we’re ready?”
Logan opened his mouth to respond, but was interrupted by Leo coming in. 
“Hey Lo!” He said, without even looking around yet. “I got milk and that bread you like. Did Finn message you yet, he definitely should have landed by now.”
Leo reached the counter, putting the milk in the fridge before turning around and finally noticing the two boys in the room.
“I think his flight landed.” Logan said dryly, watching Leo take in Finn’s presence. 
“Hi baby.” Finn said, with a smile, truly grinning when Leo left the shopping bag half-empty and came over to kiss him hello instead. 
“Hi.” Leo said, slipping into the gap between his two boys. “I missed you.” 
Finn heard himself make a pleased noise as he leaned in to kiss Leo again. “Missed you too.”
“So,” Leo said as he pulled away, pulling Logan’s feet onto his lap. “What’re we talking about?”
Finn met Logan’s green eyes, pausing for a moment. “Um, I uh…”
Logan kicked his foot forward to nudge it against Finn’s thigh. “I got it Harzy.” He then turned to Leo. “We were thinking, maybe it’s time for us to come out? It’d be nice I think, not having to hide.”
Finn watched Leo carefully as the younger boy blinked in surprise before a small smile took over his face. 
“Yeah,” He breathed, looking between Logan and Finn. “Yeah that would be nice.” He bit his lip, looking smug and mischievous and Finn thought he might be falling in love all over again. “But I think we should have some fun first.”

Logan stumbled off the bus wearily - that four hour bus ride had just seemed to go on forever. Reporters stood outside the door to the hotel, despite the cold and the late hour but Logan leaned into Leo’s side anyways, Leo’s arm around his shoulder, Logan’s hand beneath his jacket. Photographers went wild, cameras shuttering quickly and Logan hid his smile in Leo’s jacket. This was going to be a whole lot of fun.

Leo looked up as Marlene entered the locker room, glancing around to see who might be ready and available for an interview. Leo caught her eye and waved her over. 
“Hey Leo, how about a quick video for social media? I won’t keep you longer than five minutes.”
Leo smiled, he didn’t mind, this was all a part of their plan, the team and the rest of the staff had been made somewhat aware. Plus, he liked Marlene so he never had a problem with the interviews. “Sure.”
“Okay great!” She gave him a thumbs up as she started recording. “So, just last night, pictures of you and Logan Tremblay were released as you got off the bus - have you anything to say about them?”
Leo nodded, grinning. “Don’t forget James photobombing in the background. I think he was going for a ‘bunny ears’ effect but it ended up looking like he was doing it to Kasey instead. I think I need to get a copy framed.”
Marlene laughed, moving on. “So you and Logan are close then?”
Leo looked around the room comically. “What? You mean right now? Cause He’s in the PT room so a lot of the guys are closer.”
Marlene bit her lip, her eyes sparkling. “How do you feel about this game then?”
Leo sat back, finally going to answer a question honestly. “I’m feeling good. We’ve had a great start this season and I’m pretty confident.”
Marlene gave him another thumbs up and headed off to go chat to some of the other guys. A few stalls over, Finn met Leo’s eyes and blew him a kiss.

“The media seems to have calmed down a bit.” Logan commented as they all sat at home watching a movie. “Think it’s time for our next one?”
“Ooh, yes!” Finn enthused. “I call being in this one.”
Logan laughed and pulled out of the way so he could take a picture of Finn kissing Leo’s cheek, Leo’s face all scrunched up in a smile. 
“There you go, post it.”
Finn grinned, going to Instagram and putting up the picture with the caption ‘Days like this’ before tagging Leo for good measure. 
“That should entertain them for a couple of days.” He said, satisfied as he tossed his phone to another chair and leaned back into Logan’s warmth, kissing the spot just below his ear. 
“You and me next baby,”

Logan laughed as he scrolled through the headlines and posts from fan accounts, taking screenshots of some of the art of them that had already begun to bubble up. Thomas was on the other side of him, watching a video of a fan analysing the teams interactions, trying to figure out who was actually in a relationship, laughing every few minutes. 
“Knutty,” Logan called, summoning Leo. “Look at this one.”
Leo took his phone and read the caption out loud. “Knut’s betrayal making Tremblay tremble?” He looked up and met Logan’s eyes, his face blank. “I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.”
“I do!” Finn interrupted, coming up behind Logan and wrapping his arms around his boyfriend’s waist. “Okay Lo, you hold up the article, now someone take our picture please!”
Logan ginned and relaxed into Finn as James snapped them together before posting it to his own account. ‘Doesn’t seem to be trembling to me.”

“I’m gonna go get some coffee, do you guys wanna come?” Leo said, the three of them still lying in bed. Finn shook his head, still mostly asleep, but Logan perked up.
“From the café down the street?”
Leo nodded, laughing when Logan was up like a shot, pulling on his clothes. 
“We’ll bring you back some, okay sweetheart?” Leo said as he leaned over the bed once more to kiss Finn goodbye. Finn just nodded and burrowed deeper into the duvet. 
“Love you.” He mumbled and the two boys left him to his dreams, slipping out of the room quietly. 
They walked down the street, hand in hand, going mostly unnoticed by the public. It was still early and a Sunday, so there weren’t too many people up and about, but even those that were paid them very little attention. It was easy to forget, in moments like this, that they had entire fan pages dedicated to them and many days they weren’t even recognised on the street. 
They got their coffee and drank it there, holding hands over the table outside the front door, watching the people passing by and chatting idly. Leo thought he spotted someone taking a not-so-discreet picture of them, but they didn’t care. Logan went inside to grab Finn’s cup to go and Leo lounged in the sunshine for a moment, breathing in the cool, sharp air. 
He opened his eyes to find Logan standing over him, looking down amusedly. “D’accord, mon choupinet?"
Leo smiled and stood up, stretching lazily. “Oui.”
They came back home to Finn still in bed, and joined him under the covers while he sipped his coffee.
“Oh, look we’re back in the headlines.” Leo commented as he angled his phone for them both to see. A photo of Leo and Logan from just a half hour ago stared back at them, Logan laughing at something Leo had said. 
“That’s such a cute picture,” Finn noted, putting on his glasses to take a closer look. “You should save that.”
Knut and Tremblay reunited? No news yet on how O’Hara is taking this latest blow.
“O’Hara would be doing fantastic if he had another kind of blow.” Finn grumbled, then blushed when he realised he had spoken out loud. “I mean-”
“Oh, we know what you meant.” Logan said, taking the nearly empty coffee cup from Finn and setting it on the nightstand as Leo eased Finn back, slipping under the covers as Logan captured his lips. “And that can be arranged.”

“So when do you guys think you’ll let them know what’s actually happening?” Remus asked Leo as he helped the blond boy with his stretching. 
Leo bit his lip as he thought. “I don't know? Soon maybe though, because this is fun and all but I’m tired of being analysed all the time now. At least if we tell them the truth, they’ll be chasing after us for a couple of weeks but then it’ll all settle down and be nice and quiet again, you know?”
Remus nodded, smirking when Leo took a sharp intake of breath as he pushed his legs a little further apart. “Yeah for sure. It’ll be pure chaos for a bit, but then they’ll quickly move onto the next big thing, I promise.”
Leo nodded, a little lost in thought. “Yeah, I’m ready to have a bit of privacy again. I think I’ll say it to the boys tonight.”
Remus nodded and pushed Leo a little further, laughing when Leo cursed under his breath.
“Fuck, if I’m alive after all this that is.”

“Alright, we’re doing this so?” Logan confirmed, making sure everyone was in agreement. 
“Yup.” Leo said, popping the ‘p’.
“It’s time.” Finn confirmed as they all pulled up the same picture they had chosen to post - a photo of the three of them taken at a party at Dumo’s. Logan sitting in Leo’s lap, head tilted up as he kissed Finn who was handing them their drinks. 
“Captions ready?” Finn asked and the other two nodded.  “Okay. Three,”
“Two,” Leo said.
“One.” Logan breathed and they all clicked ‘post’ at the same time. 
The next day, all the headlines were their Instagram captions-
Leo and Logan.
Finn and Leo.
Logan and Finn.
