The Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State, CP Muhammad Shehu Dalijan, has confirmed the arrest of Aminu Ibrahim, a member of the Zamfara State House of Assembly representing Kaura Namoda State constituency. Ibrahim faces allegations of involvement in banditry and kidnapping. In a recent statement, CP Dalijan disclosed that the District Head of Kaura Namoda, Jafaru Abdullahi Kumburki, and former chairman of Kaura Namoda LGA, Nasiru Muhammad, are also in police custody for similar allegations. Further investigations are underway involving three district heads from Danjibga, Bukkuyum, and Unguwar Gyauro in Tsafe and Bukkuyum LGAs, though their names have not been disclosed. The police commissioner elaborated that a preliminary investigation revealed that the District Head of Kaura Namoda allegedly collaborated with two suspected bandits’ collaborators, Bala and Hali Sidi, to kidnap nine people in Gidan Sambo village, Kaura Namoda LGA. The suspects allegedly collected a ransom of N800,000 before releasing their captives. The investigation also led to the arrest of Ibrahim for his alleged involvement in the kidnapping of 80-year-old Alhaji Ibrahim Sarkin Fada of Kasuwar Daji village. CP Dalijan detailed that the former chairman of Kaura Namoda LGA is accused of conspiring with Hali Sidi and Alhaji Bala to kidnap Alhaji Ango of Kumurya village. The district heads of Danjibga, Unguwar Gyauro, and Bukkuyum are currently facing an investigative panel instituted by the state government to investigate their alleged involvement in banditry activities. He said the police has carried out its investigations and forwarded the discoveries it had made to the state governor, Dauda Lawal for immediate action. He assured that 'the police authorities in Niger state remain uncompromising in their determination to unmask, arrest and prosecute anyone found to be linked with the heinous crime of banditry or any other crime in the state. CP Dalijan said there was an ongoing investigation on the issue, and everybody found directly or indirectly with the act will be questioned. He pledged that more efforts would be made by Zamfara State Police Command in ensuring that the menace of banditry is reduced while justice is done.

Nigeria gunmen kill at least 25 in village raid, officials say

At least 25 people have been killed and others abducted by gunmen in Nigeria’s northwestern Katsina state, authorities say.

Dozens of gunmen on motorbikes stormed Yargoje in Kankara late on Sunday, the state commissioner for security affairs, Nasiru Babangida Mu'azu, told BBC Hausa.

Attacks by armed gangs - referred to locally as bandits - in north-west and central Nigeria have become almost routine, with authorities seemingly powerless to stop them, despite claims by the government and security forces that they are working to end the widespread insecurity.

Residents told the BBC that dozens of gunmen on motorbikes rode into the community, shooting indiscriminately and looting shops before abducting an unspecified number of villagers.

“The people killed by bandits are more than 50, because some dead bodies are still being recovered from the bush," said a resident, who did not want to be named.

"They killed children, women and men, and kidnapped a huge amount of people. They injured more than 30 residents who are currently receiving treatment at the general hospital."

Another resident, Abdullahi Yunusa Kankara, told Reuters that he narrowly escaped the onslaught, which he said continued into the early hours of Monday.

“Our town has turned into a death zone. Almost every house in the village has fallen victim to this attack. More dead bodies were recovered this [Monday] morning," he said.

Surviving residents are trying to ascertain how many people have been abducted.

In December 2020, more than 300 pupils were kidnapped from a boys' secondary boarding school on the outskirts of Kankara by a gang of gunmen on motorcycles. They were later freed, a week after the Katsina state government confirmed they were in talks with the kidnappers.

In March this year, dozens of passengers were kidnapped in a broad daylight attack also in the same area of Katsina, the state where former Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari hails from.

In addition to my interests in creating object-based painting and works that blur lines between painting and textile arts, my work as an artist is concerned with xenophilia with a goal of bridging divides across cultures.

This work explores mathematics and “stick multiplication,” specifically - a method that seems to come from China. Math should bring clarity to daily living to persons of any profession and all walks of life. All around I see people who are getting by with minimal confidence in their ability to use math effectively in life, from high school graduates to university faculty and staff. After exploring a few different ways of working with multiplication, I became engrossed with stick multiplication as a simple, straight-forward method that is highly visual. Stick multiplication is array-like and focuses on place values that are typically color-coded.

In a 2020 journal article Dr. Muhammad Nasiru Hassan, a senior lecturer (1) at Sokoto State University in Nigeria, reported that quasi-experimental (2) research with Primary 5 students (3) shows a significant positive outcome with learning multiplication by the stick method over the traditional method of multiplying place values by each other and adding the answers. This research also revealed that when students are taught multiplication through the stick method girls outperform boys.
