Naruto Fan Cast: Part One

I fear the day when Netflix will attempt to create anything Naruto-related. Still, I am curious about what it would look like. So, before Hollywood lays its hands on our beloved fandom, allow me to introduce you to my personal fan cast.

Before we begin, let's agree on two points: 1. These are just subjective ideas that you might disagree with! So feel free to respond with your own suggestions; 2. In my fanon, the Naruto universe includes different races and nationalities. For example, Uchihas, Hyugas, Naras, and Sai are completely Japanese in my head. Meanwhile, characters like Tenten, Guy, Lee, and Rock Lee are Chinese. And the list goes on. In this post, I will only cover European/American actors cast for non POC characters. The POC fan cast will be posted later; it requires a bit more time and attention.

Here we go.

Naruto — Rudy Pankow

Look, he is a perfect Naruto for several reasons. He isn't overly 'Chad' nor too feminine. He has messy blond hair and exudes a chaotic energy (it radiates from him even in pictures). If you're still not entirely convinced, watch this YouTube video featuring him and his funniest moments. Those dimples! Blue eyes? I mean, hello?

Sasuke will be covered in the post with all the Asian characters.

Sakura — Piper America

Big forehead? Check. Pink hair? Yep. She has that unpredictable look in her eyes where you don't know what to expect from her.

Ino — Hunter Schafer

You might recognize her from Euphoria. She possesses this tall beauty combined with a flower-girl energy. Her red carpet look perfectly aligns with Ino's jutsu. The hair pieces are a perfect match, and have you noticed her nose? Ahhh!

Kiba — Dylan Obrien

This was the easiest fan cast ever! Just look at him! He embodies that dog energy in the best possible sense. Also, we'd hire Tyler Hoechlin for motion capture as Akamaru *winks*.

Temari — Florence Pugh

What I appreciate about Temari is her strong backbone and unapologetic character. Florence Pugh not only possesses those qualities, but she also has a broader facial structure that resembles Temari's. With her green eyes, dirty blond hair, and similar demeanor, what more could we ask for?

Gaara — Bill Skarsgård

Hear me out! We can always color his hair and do some black eyeliner as well as red tattoo, but when it comes to capturing Gaara's haunting eyes, who could do it better than Bill Skarsgård himself?Who will have such a slim, prince-like bone structure? Your honor, I rest my case.

Kakashi — Robert Pattison

We needed an actor with eyes that express this nostalgic, covered-in-ashes pain, hand in hand with melancholy and a 'not giving a fuck' vibe. Robert Pattinson or Robert Pattinson? After playing Batman, he has already learned how to portray a traumatized, tired orphan. What more do we need? I did not find his pictures with grey-colored hair, so let me include this black-and-white photoshoot.

Asuma — Hugh Jackman

Charisma, beard, and a bit of spice. Kushina — Abigail Cowen

Hollywood boasts around ten ginger actresses, and they all seem to cycle through fandoms like hand-me-down clothes. However, from among those ten, we had to choose the one who possesses a strong personality and a look that could intimidate. So, we're going with Abigail Cowen. She's already played a role with power struggles before, making her a good fit for depicting Kushina's struggle with Kurama.

Minato — Danny Griffin

Golden Retriever energy! What more can I say? He is the real-life boyfriend of Abigail Cowen (Kushina) and my personal choice for the position of the 4th Hokage.

Tsunade — Elizabeth Olsen

It was a hard choice between her, Scarlett Johansson, and Lady Gaga. But let's be fair — she has the mommy energy, she has a princes-like energy, and looks very much alike the character.

Jiraya — Anson Mount

Daddy.

I’ve observed that Harry Potter is probably pretty much the most universally crossed over fandom property. My Hero Academia is one I see a lot too in various fandoms I’m in, along with Naruto and the MCU. I find it interesting how different fandoms have different more common crossovers, and how those come about. The fandom I’ve done the most observation of this in is the DC Comics fandom. In my experience, I’ve seen it mostly crossed over with Miraculous Ladybug, Danny Phantom, and, of course, Harry Potter. I’m just gonna ramble here a bit, sorry! The way I understand it, the Miraculous Ladybug crossover phenom came about because apparently at some point in that show parts of the fandom decided the main character wasn’t being treated well, and started writing fics where they shipped her off to Gotham to get adopted by Batman or date a Robin or things like that. I took a look at some a while back, and every single one I saw was drastically out of character for the DC characters and read more like just space for people to project on them how they felt Ladybug should be treated and basically as like, spite towards the rest of the Ladybug cast or even the show itself. Not saying that’s the case for all of them, but the two properties are such different tones that I don’t think I’ll ever get it. There was also a period of time when the DC Comics tag on AO3 was flooded with White Collar crossovers, because people were fancasting the lead actor as Dick Grayson and apparently there was a discord server of some kind where people were just egging each other on or something writing a bunch, and I mean a BUNCH, of these crossover fics that were basically boiled down to “This White Collar character is secretly actually Nightwing in disguise!” And then sort of mutated into a bunch of fics that were riffs on that theme culminating in a ton of lookalike fics of “This White Collar character is secretly actually [Insert DC Character Of Your Choice Here] in disguise!” It got old really quick. Sorry for the rambling!

Now that I think about it, I can see why Harry Potter would have a lot of crossover fics. Especially with how common it was ~back in the day~ to assign Hogwarts houses to characters from other media.

Harry Potter apparently has 503377 works on Ao3, 48910 of which are crossovers. That's a solid 10%.

So I decided, why not put them all in one place.

I originally tried to do this with just Danganronpa characters but it has kinda grown bigger than just them.

I will post my in-progress casts list here as well as just little notes about me trying to come up with characters.

The askbox will be open if anyone has any suggestions for anything I'm working on.

Some rules I'm sticking to.

Video game characters only. And if it's a game based on a manga, anime or show it doesn't count. (So no BNHA, Naruto, One Piece, etc).

Video games with anime adaptions are ok but not anime only characters (Danganronpa games yes, Danganronpa 3 no.)

Yes some of the casting is based on shipping. I do that.

I'm not looking for suggestions, but if you offer any I'll take them

These are not all the OP related podcasts I listen to but the ones I love and listen to frequently.

We Are! (Watching One Piece) : This is an anime re-watch podcast where Jo and Jory watch the One Piece anime. They are caught up to the anime now.

The Nen Show : So this isn't a One Piece exclusive podcast. Craftsdwarf and Mathwiz talk about many Battle Shonen manga like Naruto, Bleach, Yu Yu Hakusho and of Course One piece. They have 23 episodes on One piece so its a sizable chunk of their podcast.

Rookie Pirate Radio : This is the official anime podcast for InbetweenDrafts.com. It is Hosted by Jon Negroni and Travis Hymas. They discuss the latest chapters of One piece and sometimes also discuss latest anime news.

Paremecia Fancast : This is the Paramecia Fancast, the One Piece Fancast where they talk about the latest chapter of One piece and have One piece related discussions every single week. It is Hosted by John and Franz. There are a lot of tangents and the podcast often opens with a discussion of the Fighting games and Trading Card games.

Piece Meal : This is a One Piece book club podcast. They read a volume of One piece every week and have discussions about it. The number hosts can range from 4 to 10. Some of them are One piece Veterans while others are reading the series for the first time. Each host brings a different perspective on the series. Right now, the podcast has read upto volume 105. If you had to listen to only one of these podcasts, this is the one.

i keep seeing that fancast of miura kota as naruto in my dash so i think this is my time to put out into the world that i've always thought jungkook would be a great sasuke: golden child vibes paired with a bad boy persona, he's athletic + has a blackbelt in taekwondo, and he's got the right balance of feminine and masculine energy/features to portray sasuke.

👓 What helps you focus when you write?

Music, mainly classical/film OST/gaming soundtracks. (I'm listening to the P5R soundtrack as I type this). A strong cup of tea and some water also helps. And having a set amount of time to write is always a good shout.

💕 What is your favorite fic that you’ve written?

Oooooo would need to be a mix between Our Hearts and my Steve Harrington/Male OC WIP (which has fallen to the wayside). Because Our Hearts was the first time I thought I was getting the voices of all my faves down pat, and I love the fancast I made for Stranger Things. And it's tapping into my heritage which I love.

🐇 Do you write for yourself, for others, or both?

Both! I find when I'm actually writing I'm doing it for my own satisfaction and sanity, but when I post I then discover it was for you guys too. So you can join in in my insanity and we can go skipping down the rabbit hole of angst and comfort together~

🥳 Why did you start writing fanfic?

Oh gosh, em, I was one of those people who started on Wattpad (cringe I know I haven't touched any of those projects ever again) and mainly because I had an infatuation with Naruto back in the day. Then I got onto AO3 and sorely into FFXV and thus the saga was born. I now do it for practice and experience for when I (finally) tackle my originals which will be soon~
