Mini-review:

I'm always up for a new Michihito Fujii film, and this one has a pretty stacked cast, so I knew I had to watch it. I can't say it's my favorite work of his, but it was still enjoyable. While I wish it had delved deeper into the social issues it tries to portray, the main character is interesting enough, mostly thanks to Ryusei Yokohama's strong performance. As for the rest of the characters, they probably would've been better off in a miniseries or something like that, even if the cast tries its best. Faceless won't be making my favorite movies list, but it's still a solidly made and entertaining crime thriller.

Episode 3 is centered on Yuu's and Saki's mom and a mysterious man in her life.

And lastly, the finale is from the perspective of Umi, the eldest member of the family.

Mini-review:

I remember reading and liking this manga a million years ago, but I actually think the drama is even better. It puts the romance on the back-burner, choosing to focus on the character development. As a result, the story doesn't feel rushed at all and the characters behave in ways that feel realistic. The writer also makes an effort to showcase the difficulties deaf and hard of hearing people face in Japan, a country that's not always understanding nor welcoming towards disabilities. I'm not saying it's a perfect drama; for example, I didn't feel much chemistry between the leads, even though their performances were solid. But still, it's clear that a lot of care went into making I Hear the Sunspot.

A simple funeral turns a man's world topsy turvy.

So many darkly funny scenes. The funeral, the Yakuza meeting, the street thief. And dancing like nobody's watching. Very much recommended.
