Y’know like ten minutes ago when I said that Megumi’s story crushed me the most? Well I absolutely lied

No character lore in this series will ever break my heart more than Nao’s

big spoilers past this point, not that anyone cares, so proceed carefully

She found a family, her husband’s family, that accepted her as their own after she escaped the neglect and abuse she faced with her blood family. She loved those people with all of her heart and soul. After she was killed (presumably by Chizuru) and revived as a Shiki, she didn’t want to be alone again and planned to turn the members of her found family one by one so she could be reunited with them. But not a single one of them came back like she did. Not her husband Miyazaki, not her son Susumu, not her parents-in-law either. This causes her to be completely destroyed with guilt, leading to her hallucinating images of these people that she loved. She was in agony and overtaken by heartbreak all the way up until Hasegawa staked her and put her to rest at last.

Hopefully once this was done she finally reunited with her family and was happy again. Wherever so this may have been.
