Personally Nana is a manga i feel you need an understanding of sapphic women's struggles to be able to read through the context and intention of the characters and their issues. Primarily the two Nana's.
Tumblr media
Nana Osaki has a discomfort around the idea of traditional feminine roles and what's 'expected' from her as a woman. The main reason she feels her relationship with Ren doesn't and won't work long term is he's fixated on wanting to have children with her.
However for Nana this'd get in the way of her desired career as a singer and also her future. She deems becoming a housewife and having to provide only for a man as 'the worst fate imaginable'. This is the main reason for conflict with her relationship with Ren.
While Ren isn't abusive in the same way as Takumi he does force Nana into doing things she doesn't feel comfortable with nor want to do. It's because of this that her relationship with Ren is so toxic for the both of them.
On Hachi's side, most of her issues seem to revolve around a clear case of comphet and struggling with her feelings for the women in her life. Hachi desires what Nana least desires (becoming married, having kids etc.) however romance with men is painful and isolating for her.
Hachi's first relationship being with Asano, where she was groomed while she was still a minor ruined her perception of how relationships should be. She only started dating Shouji after he guilt trips her into a relationship (and sex).
Hachi constantly states wanting a friendship with Shouji and how much it means to her however she starts dating because everyone around her acts like she's leading him on. So she dates him, then Shouji gets mad she doesn't act how HE wants her to act.
Shouji literally cheats on Hachi with Sachiko because she wouldn't just sleep with him all the time whenever he wanted. Hachi wasn't 'submissive' enough, Sachiko was.
Then on Hachi's part her 'liking' of Takumi was only in a way of how girls idolise a celebrity. There's no genuineness behind this because there's a fictional distance between you and them. Once Hachi actually meets Takumi she notices there's something wrong.
Hachi only got with Takumi because she was feeling abandoned and left behind by Nana who started focusing more on her career. Her entire relationship with Takumi is a cycle of abuse on making her think she needs him while he's aware she doesn't actually love him.
Takumi doesn't love Hachi, he only loves the amount of control he has over her. He literally treats her like his dog and both Nana and Hachi are aware of this. However it's not easy to break out of an abusive relationship just because you're aware.
Especially since with Takumi Hachi is able to have a child, which is something she's wanted since she was young. Obviously she doesn't love Takumi but on her mind, someone who never had a clear idea or desire for the future. It's the only thing she can do.
Especially since from her pov 'Nana doesn't need me anymore'. I'm not saying everyone needs to read the characters in a sapphic pov but none of the relationships they end up in are healthy for either of them, they both have men forcing their desires onto them.
Nana and Hachi's love for one another is the focus of the series and if it ever continued they'd definitely develop their relationship further. There's a sense of freedom in their love for one another that they can't get with men.
To conclude, Hachi has clear symptoms of comphet and she is likely a lesbian but struggles with seeing her feelings as valid. Where on Nana's side she can't achieve what she wants to achieve in life if she's dating a man because they'll always have different life desires.

Ne, Nana..
"no matter how close you are, everyone has their own life, and i know it's impossible to make someone belong to you but there are times i feel so terribly sad about it." -Nana Osaki
That was quote from Nana, to Yasu. A part of me, too large for my pride to admit, relates. I wish I had the skill to wield a pen, but my heart lacks courage for even that. So, here; my selfish desire, put into words however I can manage.
Those close to me have often heard I'm "the jealous kind", "the possessive friend", and so on and so forth. I'm known to "gatekeep", I am a coward. My insecurity commands me.
I'm told I'm easy to talk to, to open up to. Why then am adamant in the belief any knowledge disclosed to me is public? Public, insignificant, worthless.
Sometimes, I feel I cannot love properly. Gray, bleak and plain. Sometimes, my obsession is unhealthy. Painfully, wholly, strongly. Sometimes, I am too tired of myself to think I'm worthy of feeling.
Why do I so passionately wish to have a person.. my person? Someone belonging to me? Mine, someone who everyone in my world knows as mine. I want to belong. "You're my tribe", and she knew.. and he knew.., in those letters, within that fine print, she belonged. And he belonged.
"I just need her to need me..", Hachi told Jun. I don't want much else. Just have reason to keep me around. Have a reason to need me. Depend on me, use me.
Ne, Nanas, tell me, Why? Why do you deprive yourself of the one thing you most desperately need?
@kaalboisakhi I did tell you I do not know how to write, but eh, what's there to lose? Here you go, friendo. Ps: you still have to finish translating that song for me ;D

Nana ~Wait, you're what?!~
The first part of the request is here.
Tumblr media
"You're what?!" That's what Nana hears when she comes home from a tiring day at work. Closing the door behind her, she goes to the source of the noise, her friend Hachi, in her little sibling's room, and what she sees makes her feel multiple emotions: Hachi is holding (Y/N) tightly with tears in her eyes, the girl has a shocked face, and Nana is sure of seeing a bit of panic in it too, as she shakes the hand of... Shin?! What is he doing here?
"Nanaaaa! Our little sister got engaged to Shin, I'm so happy for them!"
"Hachiko, she's my sister, not yours!" The woman replies, without fully realizing her friend's statement. After a few seconds, though, having understood what she said, she stops to look first at her sibling and then at her alleged boyfriend, shocked and with her mouth open and eyes wide.
For about five minutes, there's dead silence in the room -only the sound of the fan, turned on due to the unbearable heat, and the music of Trapnest (which only increases Nana's annoyance) downstairs can be heard-, while everyone realizes in different ways what has just happened: (Y/N) is squeezing the hand of Shin, who's also wide-eyed and worried Nana will separate them, very tightly with almost tears in her eyes; instead, Hachi has just realized what she's done and, as she lets the girl go, she tries to correct her words with a confused stammer, waving her arms in front of her.
"Wait, you're what?"
"Nana..."
"(Y/N), what are you?"
"Big sister -(Y/N) starts speaking hesitantly- Shin and I love each other, a lot. Whatever you say, whatever you do, our feelings won't change. I know you're worried about me, but I'm not a child anymore: I can decide who to be with. With Shin I'm so happy, and he makes me feel so loved, so, please, don't push us away." As she finishes speaking, the girl's voice cracks and her eyes begin to fill with tears, so Shin approaches her and puts his arm around her waist, bringing her closer to him.
Nana takes a deep breath and approaches the couple, then gently stroking (Y/N)'s hair and murmuring: "You've grown up..."
She then turns to Shin: "You, if I find out you hurt her, I swear I'll kick you out of BLAST and make you pay for what you did. Have you understood?"
The boy nods and the woman gives a very small smile, holding the couple close.
"Well! Now let's go have a drink!"
Shin and (Y/N) move on, still in disbelief at the ease with which the girl's big sister accepted their relationship, so Nana and Hachi are left alone to talk.
"I'm happy for our little sister."
"My little sister." The brunette corrects.
"I'm happy for her too -She continues- although it seems to me she's growing up so fast..."
"..."
"..."
"Nana, are you crying?"
"I-I'm not crying, I just got an eyelash in my eye!"
