We’re Failing Our Children

We’re failing our children In their education The very foundation Of the survival of our race

We’re failing our children Not because they’re lazy or rude Not because they’re queer or in a bad mood Not because they’re anything, or everything, we don’t like

We’re failing our children Because we didn’t teach them We didn’t show them We didn’t help them know how to survive

They know addition before vegetables And ketchup, that counts They know algebra and taxonomy Before why mommy shouts

They know money and time Like an eternal rule As if everyone didn’t feel As if they were both rather cruel

They know i before e except after c Before they learn adults Are destroying the seas

They learn YouTube, Facebook, Snapchat, and Insta Before they know court order Or government Or why maybe the latter are run by the former

But more than that More than any issue Of failing to teach them any practical knowledge For the life in the system, the one that we built We never once mentioned Things like shame or guilt Anger, sadness, frustration, embarrassment Rejection, depression, or even content

No, we didn’t teach them about what they’d encounter From day one In this meager human life Where we think we’re the top The best and the brightest We think that we’ve won But no, we’ve only just begun

So here’s the truth I warn you It’s cold and it’s harsh But we need to accept it If we don’t, then, we’re living a farce

We’re not We’re not at the top We’re not the best We’re not the brightest or better than the rest We’re barely surviving In a system that no longer serves us Where nobody’s thriving And nobody’s heard us

We don’t know connection We bury emotion We say, it’s OK There’s no cause for commotion When inside we’re dying We don’t know who to trust So we say nothing And go on our day And fail to consider THERE’S ANOTHER WAY

We’re failing our children Because we believe in a system A system that broke us And taught us never to listen

My family I call you That’s what we are Those with eyes will see Those with ears will hear WE NEED TO MOVE ON WE CANNOT STAY HERE

We’re failing our children Because we still don’t know How to take action Responsibility Initiative

We’re failing our children Believing in a tomorrow That mirrors today As if things stayed the same Never going astray

That’s not how it works Never has, never will Mother nature moves on With or without you

Got the new Apple Watch series 5!!! 🤗 so there’s this idea out there that spirituality and materialism can’t exist simultaneously — that in order to be a “spiritual” person, you have to be a nun living in recluse, praying and meditating all day, giving and giving and never thinking of yourself, totally denouncing this physical life of evil and sin. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I disagree! Lol. My belief is that we were put on this Earth to have fun and enjoy ourselves! And yes help others and stay connected to a higher power - not getting too attached to anything physical as it is all transient - but savoring the process, the ecstatic experience of it all!
