You Felt None of it?
Okay. So this was for day 3 of angst week, but I kind of flew off track. But I’m still happy with the results.
….and then I forgot to post it. Lmao
Rating: T
Summary: She had loved him for so long, but she had moved on. She’s with Sting now, and when Natsu pays her a visit a week before her wedding drunk. She has to deal with a lot of emotions, but she refuses to cry in front of him.
There was a knock on the door. It jolted her awake from her position on a man’s chest. In the dark room, she could see moonlight reflected off his generous but lean muscles. Still drunk from sleep, she snuggled into Sting, subconsciously pretending he was Natsu.
They had been dating for a year and a half now; they’re going to marry in a week. Getting married, to Sting, the idea of being married should’ve made her happy. It’s too bad she kept wishing it was Natsu. Another knock on the door of their apartment caused both blonds to stir.
“I got it.” Lucy mumbled, rolling out of bed to stand. All she heard in acknowledgment was a tired grunt. Grabbing a shirt from the laundry pile, she opened her—their bedroom door to the living room. It was dark, but you could see dust moving around in the rays of moonlight. She stalked across the messy apartment. She heard another three lazy knocks that lacked cadence in any form.
This person was frustrating her. Who has the audacity to knock three different times at two in the morning? Once was rude; twice was annoying, but three times! Reaching the cold door handle, she twisted and opened it. Who she saw on the other side made her heart stop, and a lump formed in her throat. She held her breath as she looked at his odd appearance: his messier-than-usual pink hair, bags under his eyes, and a dull look in his usually beautiful green eyes. His clothes were wrinkled and dirty, but partially covered by his leather jacket and scarf, and his knuckles were bleeding, but were starting to clot. What really made her raise an eyebrow though, was the heavy stench of alcohol that all but oozed from his pores.
“Natsu…” She saw him scan down the shirt she was wearing and glare. She looked down at it and realized it was Sting’s. He grumbled and crossed his arms awkwardly. He was a mess, “Are… are you okay?” She stayed in place near the door frame, holding the door to her shoulder, unintentionally telling him he was not welcome he was not welcome in her—their apartment. He didn’t really notice though.
“Oh-oh yeah! Best I’ve,” He hiccupped, “felt in a year and a half.” He unfolded his arms and started babbling while he stood in the danky, hallway. The light had a slight flicker to it, just enough to make it agitating. Now he was frustrating her.
“Why are you here?” She asked in a confident tone, hardening her eyes so he couldn’t see the relief that flashed in them. He glanced at her, oddly serious. Her hand that rested on the door handle inside the apartment tightened its grip; her other hand didn’t moved, not even slightly, feigning disinterest.
“Because I needed to tell you that I will not be go-going to your wedding!” He giggled out, falling to the ground from loss of balance. She almost went to help him. Getting up quickly, he continued. “That’s why I went drinking; Gray told me it was the ‘liquid courage’ I needed to tell you, I think he told me for another reason though, but look at that! It worked!” He slurred out excitedly, bringing his hand up to do a clumsy ‘mind-blown’ hand signal. Then, he looked down, “Could’ve used that courage eighteen months ago,” Hiccup, “Maybe then… then things could’ve been different between you and me…” He whispered out, fidgeting with his fingers.
Lucy stared at him with confused, watery eyes. He doesn’t see her for what, two months? Then, he showed up and babbled on cutely, reminding her heart of the love she had for him.
What was his problem? Couldn’t he just leave her be? Just let her be happy? She loved him for so long, and now she was trying to get over him, and he shows up a week before her wedding. “Different?” What was she doing? No, Lucy!
“Huh? Oh, nothing. The same reason I will not be at your wedding!” Natsu laughed out, putting his hands in his pocket. She raised an eyebrow. “I just love ya’. That’s all.”
“What!” She asked loudly, seeing him flinch. She had been in love with him for so long, and he never showed any interest, ever, or at least she had thought he hadn’t. That’s why she said ‘yes’ when Sting asked her on a date, to move in, to get married, and this idiot had loved her too. Her eyes started to tear up because… it was too late. She had made a promise to Sting, and she won’t break it.
He leaned his back against the wall to the right of her door and slid down it into a sitting position. Putting his hand inside his leather jacket, he pulled out a metal flask and took a sip. “Yep.”
She could feel her tears, but she refused to let him see. Red-faced, she probed, “And you’re telling me this now, why?”
Leaning back from his flask, he rested it on his knee. He closed his eyes, “I had waited to tell you. I never thought I was good enough. Who’d want a stupid, ignorant orphan, who’s got no money, no looks, and pink hair!” He stressed every reason thoroughly. Lucy felt her heart drop. He never knew that he loved every single one of those things about him, and so did many other girls; that had always bothered Lucy. “I told myself when …hic… I passed my college classes I was good enough for you. And, I worked so hard to pass, and I still barely did.”
He took a break, “I don’t know… The day you told everyone you guys were together, I had planned on asking you out because I had just gotten my final grade—63% average. So, I hyped myself up, practiced in the bathroom mirror in Fairy Tail.” He moved his hands in weird motions and Lucy just stared, jaw dropping. “I just… When you walked in hanging off his arm, I just stared. Stared so hard I couldn’t feel the sympathetic pats on my back.” He ran his fingers through his hair, and took a sip from the flask.
“I was so sure it was going to end. Then he asked you to move in and you said ‘yes’, I was still hopeful, slightly worried. I thought, ‘I will tell her when they break up, because Sting’s my friend, and you don’t do that to friends’. So I waited for the day you would dump him… you never did. Then to throw vinegar on my wound, the dipshit ask…hic…asked you to marry him,” He stopped to breathe heavily; she could hear the lump in his throat. “and… you said ‘yes’…” She could hear the desperate sadness in his tone. She saw him take a quick sip from his flask to calm himself down.
He continued. “That was three months ago, and at the time I still thought ‘she is gonna call off the wedding, don’t worry’, and now, it’s a week before you get marr-married, and not to me, to him.”
She was shocked, flabbergasted. She thought she was dreaming. Lucy felt relief and dread searing her insides. Natsu faced the wall. He loved her too… He closed his flask. She quickly wiped a tear away just before he turned to her from his sitting position to the left of her. “Don’t marry him, Luce…”
Luce.
Luce.
The jerk hadn’t seen her for three months and then he came back to tell her not to get married to the man that actually treated her right for the last year and a half. The worst part though is the fact that she was actually considering it. Leave Sting, the man of her reality, for Natsu, the man of her dreams. “I have to, Natsu.”
He stared at her with anger in his eyes. The green orbs were flaring with envy. He pushed himself up to stand in the brightly lit hallway. His drunken flush contrasting with the grey walls, he asked, “why? Can’t you just say, ‘I don’t’?”
She could… no, Natsu—he hurt her, made her wait for years. And she loved Sting, right? She looked away. “But, I-I don’t want to say no.” Then, she looked at him. He appeared to be surprised, like he didn’t expect that answer. Her heart broke more and more. She felt her tears coming back, “I lov-love him.” She glanced into his eyes, and all she could see was dull emptiness.
“Wait—you mean you never, not even once, felt the same way?” His tone was laced with desperation as it quivered under the weight of the words. She could see him shaking with doubt and fear from his place on the ground to the left of her. He started to reach for his flask, and he rubbed his eyes, flinching when he touched his bruised eye. She hadn’t noticed that before; he must’ve gotten in a fight.
Yes. “No.” She ground out, biting her lip. The lump in her throat felt heavy and she averted her eyes.
“But I thought… all those movie nights, the dancing at parties, grocery trips, the sneaking out, the New Year’s kiss we had, you felt none of it?” His voice was cracking and it seemed he was trying to hide his tears too. He took a shaky sip from the shiny metal container. He was sobering up far too quickly to have this conversation.
She felt it all. Her hands clenched. “No, I didn’t.”He looked away and nodded his head distractedly, as though he was pretending to understand. Gulping down the rest of whatever substance he had in the flask, he turned.
“Alright. Good to know. Have a good life… with Sting.” He whispered as kindly as he could manage, with his back to her. He started walking down the hallway, and she felt him slipping through her fingers.
Stop him. “You too.” With his back to her she let her tears fall, unknowing Natsu was letting his fall too.
With his back turned to her he responded in the clearest voice from him she had heard all night, “It’s kind of hard to when you’re not gonna be in it, Lucy Eucliffe.” Her eyes widened.
She shut the door. Feeling the click of the metal vibrate throughout the door, she leaned into closed the door gently, shocked. She collapsed against it and started sobbing as quietly as she could so she wouldn’t wake up Sting.
She broke down; she bawled.
She was getting married.
---
She was ready. Standing in front of the mirror, she stared at the beauty her that Levy, Erza, Bisca, and Cana had been working at for the past three hours—in silence. All of her friends knew of her problem, knew she was in love with Natsu. They also knew that she was getting married, to Sting.
She loved him, but not like she loved Natsu. She stared at herself in the mirror for a little longer. Her blonde was down, and rested over her shoulders with a braided crown wrapped around her head. Her dress had lace on it almost everywhere, and the veil over her head made her look like an angel. She wondered why she would prepare herself like this for something she wasn’t even looking forward. In the reflection of the mirror, she saw Gray walk in, almost pulling off his tux jacket. He looked at her in the mirror, realized that he was stripping and stopped.
Walking towards her, he held out an arm to her, “Ready to go?” She took his arm, and he led her out of the room to walk her down the aisle. Her father had died years ago of a heart attack, so Gray had kindly stepped up to the task.
They stood expectantly just outside the doors of the chapel. When the music played they walked in. Following the white carpet slowly, Lucy subtly scanned for a head of pink hair. True to his word, he wasn’t here. Good, that made this a lot easier. Without realizing it, Lucy ended up beside Sting as the priest started doing their vows, and with everything tradition did, she couldn’t help but wish it was Natsu standing where he was, standing handsomely in a tux, staring at her as though she was his world.
Especially when she read her own vows.
Then, the priest got to the important question, “Do you Lucy Heartfilia, take Sting Eucliffe to be your lawfully wedded husband.”
She felt light-headed and sick. She knew what she really wanted. She knew.
And that was why she confused herself when she said, “I do…”

Nalu Angst Week, Day 5
Sorry this ones late, and off my phone so I can't do the "Read More" thing. Busy this weekend. Day 6 will probably be up really late tonight and Day 7 really late tomorrow cuz I work double shifts tomorrow.
Also my apologies to the Queen of Angst, @sweetmemories2606, this one is a little on the softer angst side, because I wanted to pick an unconventional response to the prompt.
Summary: Natsu is losing his mind; it's the only explanation for the dragon slayer over his behavior. The alternative is too complicated.
~
"Lost"
Flashing lights greeted them wherever they went. For all the grief that Fairy Tail had gotten over the years from the kingdom, they certainly were celebrated now. Particularly the members of Team Natsu - Gray, cool and aloof, drove the women across Fiore as a hero (something which made Juvia nearly lose her mind); Erza, a bonafide warrior princess, who had always been rather popular but since skyrocketed; Wendy, with her cheerful little girl charm, won the hearts of everyone she met. Even Natsu himself, who like Erza, had always been well-known, enjoyed the spotlight as Salamander of Fairy Tail. The one who benefited most though, was certainly Lucy.
And that was what was gripping his nerves at the moment, watching from across the guild hall as his partner was once again hounded by media personnel. It didn't matter how many times she promised she was an exclusive columnist and model for Sorcerer Weekly, every newspaper and magazine across Fiore wanted to have Lucy on their covers. Fairy Tail had to learn the hard way that some of them would do it without her permission either, and worst of all, he'd been forced to sleep at his own house after a few snapshots were taken of him both sneaking in Lucy's bedroom window and, even worse, in bed with his arms wrapped around her. His best friend had been furious, whining about her love life's reputation being crushed following rumors that the two of them were "sleeping together" (upon his insistence that they were, in fact, doing such a thing, Gray, Gajeel, and Cana had burst into laughter and Mira had to quickly subdue a fuming Erza who looked ready to kill. Lisanna and Juvia had hurriedly informed him of what "sleeping together" actually implied and Natsu assured everyone present that he and Lucy were not actually doing that).
But that whole ordeal had been his descent into the madness he currently found himself in. First of all, his brain had taken to using every dirty act he'd ever heard Macao and Wakaba talk about and imagined them with Lucy's face. And he knew that he really liked it, which sort of weirded him out. It was his best friend after all, the girl he had saved from perverted pigs dozens of times. Obviously he knew he was a boy and he knew he had needs (oh the older members of Fairy Tail had reminded him of that several times), but naughty thoughts about Lucy made him feel weird. And to make matters worse, it wasn't the only strange behavior he found himself with around her. No, it was only the beginning.
The instant that he didn't know where Lucy was, he practically lost any sense of time or space. He always sort of panicked, felt it bubbling in his throat and he didn't know why. More than once, he'd found himself wandering toward the bathroom in Fairy Tail a few minutes after Lucy had announced her need to use it, and he was pretty sure the entire guild had picked up on that by now. He'd always been protective of her since Phantom Lord kidnapped her, and hyper-aware of creeps since the first catcall he witnessed (oh the poor bastard who didn't notice the infamous wizard Salamander at her side). But something in him had changed, and he wasn't really sure when. The protectiveness had clearly deepened, so much so that he wasn't himself when Lucy wasn't near. And the moment he found her, he always had to touch her; he couldn't ever explain why, it was just reassurance he needed.
Gajeel and Wendy were certainly among the first to notice his changed behavior. Mostly because in their presence - especially Gajeel's - Natsu was about ten times worse than normal. When they were present, he always had a hand on her. Always subtly smelling her to make sure the metal mouth wasn't rubbing off on her, even when he was very clearly involved with Levy. Gray had always been a rival to him, but the one day he walked into the guild and found the two of them alone at a table, he'd burned up furiously and nearly throttled the ice wizard (probably would've too, if Juvia hadn't had the same idea toward Lucy, and the two collided before they had reached their target).
Sure he was hot-headed, but he'd never been the jealous type. Every man who looked at Lucy ignited deep anger within him, and he couldn't help but glower. He let a magazine stand on fire once because it had issues of Sorcerer Weekly featuring "Lucy Heartfilia, the Star of Fairy Tail, bares ALL!" and a group of attractive young men were discussing how they might catch her attention. Gray - bearing the brunt of most of this and it wasn't to do with his crush on Lucy when she first joined Fairy Tail at all - was the first to suggest to Natsu he might be jealous of the people giving Lucy all the attention she has been getting.
He most certainly was not jealous. No he didn't get upset whenever Lucy wasn't around, he didn't practically ignore everyone else in favor for her when she was in the room, and he didn't purposely sleep in bed with her to try and cover her in his own campfire-like scent both because he liked it with her vanilla essence and to keep other males away from her. Simply, the answer was just that Natsu was losing his mind and it seemed to revolve around Lucy.
No, it wasn't like he felt a part of him was missing when she wasn't around. At all.
He was losing his mind because of her, but she never seemed to notice that she was the reason why.
Natsu looked up when Lucy entered the room; he knew it the way his entire body relaxed, yet spurred to life, the moment that he smelled her. He had been sitting the guild hall, trying to control his impulse to run and search for her and make sure she was safe, when he'd known she had just been with Levy.
What if something happened to her and you weren't there?
Shut up, it's the library. But the voice in his head spoke what he was truly thinking.
"Natsu!" Lucy called, and his entire body reacted to the sound of her voice saying his name. He jumped to his feet and raced to her side.
"Got a job for us today, Lucy?" Any time with her was time he didn't have to be worrying about her.
Her expression deflated his elation though.
"Sorry, Natsu," she only sounded partially apologetic though. "This really cute guy asked me on a date yesterday! So I was coming to tell you not to take any jobs until after tomorrow, okay?"
"Why?" He groaned sadly, but on the inside he was prickling. Okay, on the outside he was too, as he realized his clenched fist had slightly caught fire. And he might be scowling instead of frowning based on the smug look Gajeel was giving him.
"Because I actually really like this guy and I want it to work out and you know... I want it to work out while still having you as my partner. Okay Natsu? Thanks."
He grew agitated as she walked away. Another date huh? He thought she was done with those. Oh well, there was nothing he could do if "Happy" found a job that he just had to take, because Lucy would certainly want to come if they found one.
Yes, he clearly had to just be losing his mind. Anything else was absurd.

7. Freedom/Chained
How did they always get themselves into these situations? The Oracion Seis, Tenrou Island, Tartarous, Zeref; how was it that her team was always in the middle of these world ending escapades?
A deep pitiable sigh slipped past her lips, she could practically feel her whole chest deflate with it. She shook her head back and forth violently, trying to clear it of the swirling torrent of thoughts and emotions clouding her mind. She was supposed to be on a 100 year quest with her closest friends right now, not fighting another madman to save the world. Tears began to well up in her eyes unwillingly; she couldn’t help but mourn the loss of it. She briefly wondered if her friends would still complete it after.
The 100 year quest was more about the journey than the actual mission; it was about never-ending bonds of friendship. It was their silent promise to each other that there would always be more adventures. She was sure it was also Natsu’s own special way of assuring her that she would never be alone again, that he would never leave her alone again. Natsu was always a more tactile communicator; words were never his strong suit. So what better way to prove to Lucy the level of his conviction than to drag her on a never ending quest? Well, the thrill of the challenge didn’t hurt either.
Everything until now was amazing. For the last three years Natsu, Gray, Erza, Wendy, Happy and Carla had traveled the world together with her. They were no closer to completing the quest than when they started, but every day was a new adventure. They went back to Magnolia often to visit their friends and family. Side quests were completed as required to keep money in their pockets. Last year she even found Aquarius’s key again. Life was great, and for the first time in years there was no dark dangerous cloud looming over their heads. That is, until Princess Hisui contacted their guild with a rather dire emergency; which was how Lucy found herself in this rather dispiriting situation. The Princess had contacted Fairy Tail days ago with intelligence that a dark guild was planning some sort of attack on Fiore using the Spirit World. The princess had reached out to Fairy Tail specifically because of Lucy; while Lucy wasn’t the only Celestial Wizard in the world, it was well known that she was by far the strongest. It didn’t hurt that she was supported by the strongest guild in the world either.
Team Natsu had successfully stopped the dark guild known as the Ace of Spades, but not before their leader Jax had torn open a rift to the Spirit World. His rather brash plan included using old magic and the ancient Celestial Shrine to force open a rather large “gate” to the Spirit World and then enslave the Spirit King. Lucy knew firsthand the frightening power of the Spirit King and did not wish to ever be on the other side of it again. His power was not meant for any one person to control, especially without limits. Years ago their group had seen up close what can happen to the Spirit World when the Celestial King was thrown into chaos, and this time the open gate bled the overwhelming energy of the Spirit World into Earthland as well. Princess Hisui was right to be worried, Jax’s plan was apocalyptic.
The whole ground shook as the magic power coalesced chaotically around the ancient shrine. Above her, high in the sky, midnight black clouds swirled malevolently and mixed with golden magical light. Energy from the two planes clashed in the sky and exploded creating an ethereal lightening show. Frustration welled up in Lucy’s chest; she clenched her hands into fists almost tight enough to draw blood. She bit into her lips, ignoring the coppery taste the seeped onto her tongue. She allowed the pain to stem the wail that threatened to tear itself from her lips. They had won the fight, but would ultimately lose the war.
“No. No, I won’t allow it!” A fire burned in her belly; strength welled up from the deepest recesses of her soul and flowed into every fiber of her being as though it were a living thing. She steeled her nerves for what she knew she must do.
Jax lay unconscious at Natsu’s feet, slumped against the wall on the outskirts of the large atrium which lay at the heart of the shrine. Erza, Gray, and Wendy had just rejoined the group mere seconds ago, finally finishing their own battles against the remnants of the dark guild moments before. However, for all of their success, no one had managed to stop the massive tear from being formed. “Well, at least the Spirit King wasn’t enslaved. Small miracles I suppose,” Lucy mumbled under her breath as she slowly walked into the center of the atrium. “Stardress: Aquarius!”
And it was true; they had managed to stop Jax before he was able to complete the ritual, thereby ensuring that the Spirit King remained free. However, that didn’t mean that anyone was safe. The idiot had torn open a rift so large between the two realms, it was quickly destabilizing both. The turbulent skies above her head, the quaking beneath her feet, and the magical lightening crashing around them were just the beginning. Left alone, both realities would collapse; Lucy knew she had to act quickly.
She surveyed the scene around her as she moved, taking stock of everything she wanted to protect, her friends, her home, and Natsu. Lucy wasn’t entirely sure where Carla and Happy were, but she thought she heard something about them researching the shrine for information on the ritual. It wasn’t much good now, but at least they wouldn’t be here for this. Steeling her resolve, she stopped her slow march at the center of the atrium of the shrine and prepared her mind and body for what she knew needed to be done.
“LUCY STOP!!”
She felt a strong hand grip her wrist and swing her around to face her detractor. Her heart sank at the sight; she was silently praying that she would be able to get through this without him figuring it out until it was too late. She should have known better, he always came whenever she was ever in any real danger.
“Loke.” Her voice rang true with the strong affection she held for her most loyal spirit and one of her closest friends; however, she could not completely hide the solemn resignation hidden within it either.
He had a manic look about his face; Fear, anger, exacerbation, pride, grief, and a stubborn refusal to accept the reality in front of him all vied for control creating a crazed look in his eyes. He gripped both of her wrists in his hands with such strength, she seriously doubted he entirely was conscious of it.
“You CAN’T DO this LUCY!”
“What choice do I have Loke? That gate has to be closed.”
He shook his head and dug his fingertips in even harder; they were sure to leave bruises on her fair skin. How could she act so calm about this, as though it were nothing! Surely she realized what this would do to him! He would not, could not accept this.
“Not alone!! There is Yukino, Princess Hisui, even Lady Anna, any of them could help!”
He didn’t want to see that look from Lucy, the look of pity and surrender. Loke turned his head from it tears starting to build in his eyes.
“They are days away, we don’t have that sort of time.”
“Then summon the Spirit King for help!”
Lucy’s gaze sharpened at that, fire from her eyes piercing through Loke’s soul. “No! One, there is already too much Celestial energy here; calling him forth would only make things worse. Two, only a Celestial Wizard can close the gate and you know that. Three, I refuse to ever sacrifice another spirit ever again.”
Grabbing onto her shoulders, Loke rattled Lucy back and forth, as though to shake common sense back into her thick skull. Loke screamed, “DAMMIT LUCY! THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING!”
By this point, Loke’s extreme reaction had drawn the attention of their friends. Now only a few feet away, Natsu cocked his head to the side confused. “Yo, whats going on?”
“LUCY’S TRYING TO KILL HERSELF!” Loke couldn’t keep the slight wail of hysteria from his tone.
Shock painted the face of her friends and kept them frozen in place for several moments; it was as though time itself stood still. Not surprisingly, Natsu was the first to recover. His muscles tensed, his eyes narrowed, and seething anger seeped into his voice as he growled out, “What the Hell?”
Lucy refused to shirk under his glare, “I have to close the gate. Leaving a rift like that open can destroy both worlds. I’m the only one here who can close it.”
“We have seen Lucy force gate closures multiple times?” Leave it to Erza to get to the heart of the problem with a single strike. Her simple statement was formed as a question, as though it answered itself with its obviousness.
Loke shot Erza a fierce glare, just another indicator to his emotional state. Under any other circumstance, he would never be crazy enough to look at her that way. “Look at the size of that gate! Closing a gate that large will take everything she has; IT WILL KILL HER!”
“Lucy?” Gray’s quiet voice held a string of questions within the one word. ‘Is this true?’ ‘Did you know?’ ‘How could you do this to us?’
Lucy held firm, though it broke her heart, she knew she was right. “I HAVE to close the gate. If I let this continue it will destroy both worlds. Everyone we have ever cared about, from both realms, will die. Either way I die. I might as well go out protecting those I love”
Loke sprung forward trapping Lucy in a fierce hug, as though he could keep her safe by sheer will alone. As his one arm wrapped firmly around her waist, his other gently cupped the back of her head pulling her into the crook of his neck as he laid his head atop hers. Lucy couldn’t help but melt slightly into his embrace and return the hug. She knew it was very likely the last time she would be able to show him how much he meant to her. “Lucy. Please stop. How can I just sit back and let my friend disappear right in front of me?”
Two lone tears leaked from her eyes. “Oh Loke. I can’t let any of you disappear either. Now it’s my turn to protect you.”
Loke stepped back so suddenly it was a bit jarring; then Lucy felt a warm hand grip her arm. Electric shocks raced through her body and settled in the pit of her stomach. Natsu’s grip was firm, unyielding but gentle. His entire body was tense like a tightly coiled spring, and one wrong word from her would cause the whole thing to explode. “You don’t die for your friends.”
Lucy looked at him, one of her signature mega-watt smiles gracing her face as she answered, “You live for them.”
And it was her unique smile, the smile all her friends had learned long ago to equate to the knowledge that everything would be all right. It threw them off kilter just long enough to give her the opening she needed. As her friends stood around her, startled that she could smile so fully in light of the current conversation, she unleashed her attack.
“WATER BARRIER!”
Her friends were flung back as a wall of water erupted around Lucy, keeping her in its protective shell. Natsu and Loke, who were closest to the source, flew with enough force to slam them into the shrine walls. Then her 9 other Zodiac spirit friends materialized in a line between her and her team.
“Aquarius, please give me space! Capricorn, Scorpio, and Taurus keep Natsu back! Gemini, Cancer, Sagittarius stand guard. Virgo and Ares, hold back Loke.”
“GATE OF THE SPIRIT WORLD, CLOSE!!!”
Lucy was swallowed by a pillar of golden light that erupted from her body and shot straight into the hole in the sky.
Natsu, though shaken, was the first to brush off the stunning attack, “LUCY!!” Natsu’s panicked scream cracked across the room like a whip. He planted his right hand on the floor with both feet against the wall he just peeled himself off of. Fire exploded from his feet, shooting him off like a rocket towards Lucy. Aquarius was ready for him, firing a torrent of bubbles which hit him dead on. Natsu flew back into the wall and the spirits quickly descended upon him.
A bit off to Natsu’s right, Loke’s expression moved past betrayal and straight onto rage. “How could you! You and she fought so hard to see each other again! How could you agree to this Aquarius!” Aquarius was ready for him though, and directed the torrent of bubbles at Loke before he could attack. Loke struggled against the force of her water unsuccessfully, one arm stretched helplessly towards his friend and owner.
Aquarius hung her head and looked away from his piercing gaze, “It is because of that struggle that I refuse to abandon her now.”
“Lions Brilliance!” A brilliant light exploded from inside Loke; his magical energy deflecting Aquarius’ attack. “And how is this not abandonment? You’ll all be kicked out of the Spirit World, just like I was. Do you plan to die with her?”Loke leaped towards Aquarius, fists prepared for his attack, when he was thrown back by a torrent of water.
“I will not treat her like a child! Lucy knows what she must do; I refuse to treat her as one too stupid to make her own choices. What would you have us do Leo? Would you have both worlds die with her? Would you sacrifice the Universe for her?
“I would find another way! Regulus Impact!”
“There is no other way!” Tears ran in rivers down her face as Aquarius swung her vase back, preparing to unleash her famous cyclone upon the group.
In a flash, a sword materialized holding the vase back; a blinding light enveloping Erza, “Sea Empress Armor; your water attacks will no longer hold power over me Aquarius.”
“Moshi Moshi! I am sorry miss, but that will not help you here.” A stream of arrows flew towards the female warrior with scary precision. The rate of fire was closer to one of Bisca and Alzac’s magic machine guns than arrows.
The room quickly descended into chaos as Erza fought Aquarius, and Sagittarius. Gray and Wendy reluctantly took Gemini and Cancer. Natsu was in an outright frantic brawl with Capricorn, Scorpio and Taurus. One never would have never guessed that Ares and Virgo were ever friends with Loke considering the way he was throwing himself into the fight. In the heart of it all stood Lucy, enveloped in a golden light, screaming from the severe strain to her body.
Natsu’s head reeled back after a particularly well placed punch from Capricorn and slammed into a wall, stone crumbling from the force. With a speed that rivaled Jet, Natsu recovered and threw himself back into the battle. “How the hell are you all here anyway? Even Lucy shouldn’t be able to summon 9 of your at once, not if she is using everything she has on that stupid hole!”
Capricorn was the first to answer as he evaded a particularly brutal double fire kick from Natsu. “That rift has broken down the barriers between our worlds. We no longer need a summoner to be here.”
“AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!” Lucy’s shrill screech tore through the air halting everyone in their tracks. Small tears started to appear all over as the swirling magical energy started to slice apart her delicate skin. Lucy would not be deterred though; one look at her friends was all that she needed to push through the pain, pouring even more energy into the demising gate above.
Erza, Gray and Wendy ceased their attacks solemnly; watching the amazing extent of Lucy’s determination diminished their own. Natsu though felt as if it was tearing his body itself in two; he subconsciously placed his fisted hand over his heart. “Listen to her! That is your friend, your comrade! How can you let her do this to herself?”
Capricorn, Scorpio, and Taurus regrouped during the brief lull, forming a wall between Natsu and Lucy.
“Yeah baby! That is exactly why we are here,” however, Scorpio’s smile didn’t quite reach his eyes as he spoke. “We are here to support our owner!”
“We believe in Lucy’s strong and beautiful booody!”
“If that rift is not closed, both worlds will be destroyed. Everything that Lucy loves will be lost; she is the only one here who can close it. We must have faith in her.” Capricorn’s voice rang with strong conviction.
Natsu’s fists exploded in a fiery fury from the force of his emotions. “I don’t care. That is Lucy, our Lucy. And she is in pain!”
Erza, and Gray, who had regrouped next to Natsu in the lull, placed restraining hands on his shoulders, tears in both their eyes. “Natsu,” Erza spoke, “We must trust in our friend.”
Natsu’s eyes widened like saucers, his flames extinguished from sheer shock. “Erza? You too?”
“Look around you Flame Brain! Look at their eyes! Do you think they want this? Do you think we want this? We love her too! But if what they say is true, then what choice do we have but to trust in her?” Gray’s hand dug painfully into Natsu’s shoulder, as though he was physically restraining himself. It was as though he was trying to convince himself along with Natsu. His entire body shook silently with tremors.
Natsu’s head swung towards Wendy looking for support; surely she was still with him. His chest deflated as soon as he saw her face.
Another scream escaped their friend’s lips and reverberated around the shrine, echoing in their heads long after the sound itself was gone. Erza let go of Natsu’s shoulder and dropped it to her side. She took her other arm and wrapped it around her waist and gripped her arm as though she were holding herself back. “If we don’t let her do this, everyone will die. Lucy will die.”
“I refuse to accept it! I can’t lose her! I promised that I would always protect her; I promised that I would never fail her like Karen!?” Loke’s hands were fisted in his orange mane while he shook his head back and forth in crazed desperation. Virgo and Ares stood guard before him, boxing him in. “I won’t let her die! I can’t let her die! She is the most important person in the world to me! I would give my life for her! I don’t want to live in a world without Lucy.”
“Slap” The sharp sound bounced across the room. Loke barely registered the needle-like stinging sensation on his cheek. He looked up; Virgo’s hand was still raised and fire burned in her eyes. “Princess is not a damsel to be protected, and you are not the only one who cares for her!”
“Then why aren’t you helping me!! You’ll be banned from ever returning to the Spirit World. You’ll die too!”
Virgo shook her head, “No big brother. Remember, you and Lucy changed that rule. We will not be held accountable for supporting her decision.”
Ares looked upon her friend with pity, “She may be our friend, but we are also her spirits. Even when it is hard, we will obey her wishes. It is our pride as Celestial Spirits.”
“Well I won’t! Regulus Impact!”
Virgo and Ares went soaring across the shrine, creating a crater when they crashed into the stone floor. “Natsu! Get Ready! Lion’s Brilliance!”
The shrine was enveloped in a blinding bright light, stunning all but Loke and Natsu who used the opening to run to their suffering friend. Finding his friend in the light was easier than breathing, Natsu was so attuned to her at this point that locating her with his sharp nose was like a sixth sense. She was such an integral part of his life he didn’t even need to consciously try any more. As Natsu reached her back, he wrapped his strong arms around her waist and pulled her to him firmly. His face contorted in distress as he cried out, “STOP IT!! Please!” The light entombed them both, chaotic magical energy greedily now tearing at both of their flesh instead of one. Natsu winced from the pain as he tried his best to shield Lucy from harm. However, as the light finally receded, it was Loke who first noticed that their time had run out. The rift was now gone!
The last of Lucy’s magical energy floated away into the sky, being absorbed by the remnants of the now healed gate. She stood there pale and winded, huffing and gasping for breath after the exertion. Her clothes were in tatters, torn to shreds from the magical energy. Small ringlets of blood oozed from paper sized cuts all over her delicate body. Gently her arm came up, and lightly grabbed Natsu’s which were still wrapped firmly around her waist. Breathing a sigh of relief, Natsu slowly detangled himself from her.
Loke sank to the ground before her, knees slamming onto the hard stones beneath him. Violent sobs racked his body, his hands coming up to grip his wild mane as he shook his head lightly in denial. “No, no, no, no, no, no, no…,” that one word becoming his new mantra. Tears streaming down his face pooled on the cold stone floor before his knees.
To say that Natsu was confused by his comrade’s reaction was an understatement. She was standing right there. Yeah, she looked weak and tired, but she was alive. So what was with the water works? “Luce?”
Ignoring him for a moment, Lucy leaned down, and cupping Loke’s face in her hands she placed a gentle kiss on his forehead. She caught Gray and Erza’s eyes as she stood, large smile gracing her face. “Take care of him please? Take care of all of them?” Lucy didn’t wait for a response; she trusted that they would.
“Luce? I don’t understand?” Fear, a rare emotion for him, started to seep into his heart. He wasn’t sure what was going on, but he knew instinctively that he wouldn’t like the results.
Turning to her closest and truest friend, she gave Natsu the signature mega-watt Lucy smile. Her hand stretched out and cupped his cheek, her thumb rubbing small reassuring circles absentmindedly.
Natsu reached up to grasp her hand, becoming alarmed when he only touched air. His gaze sharpened as he turned towards where her arm was only a second before, and for that one moment, time stopped. Her arm was slowly disappearing right before him, as though it was never there. He struggled to regain his breath as he turned terrified eyes towards hers. “L...Lu...Luce?”
She leaned forward, kissing the tear off his cheek. Only Lucy’s chest and head were visible now, with more disappearing everyone second. “It will be ok Natsu.”
Natsu reached out quickly, trying to grab onto her, trying desperately to hold her to him. He became more frantic as she faded before him, arms flying everywhere trying to grasp onto any part of her. “Lucy! Hold on! You have to stay with us! You have to stay with me! We’ll be together forever right?”
Only Lucy’s face was visible now and it too slowly faded from view. “Forever and always. I love you Natsu.” And with that, Lucy was gone.
This is the first chapter to a new fic I am writing. Nothing is posted except here yet because I am not far into the story. Thought this would make a good submission for Nalu week 2018. Not sure about the title yet.

A/N: Hey guys, it's your girl back again with another installment of TTDW! Fun fact: Being temporarily off work for a few weeks due to pandemic has provided some extra free time to edit and posta new chapter for this fic ( which is on account of the temporary closures of public institutions, and public spaces along with non-essential businesses/services in Ontario-the Canadian province I'm from). This isn't to suggest I'm not without fear or concern about the pandemic or potential effects on global infrastructure but at least I'm mostly coping as best as anyone can at this time. Hope you guys are all too. ( A bit more on this in the A/N at the end of this chapter .) Anyway, hope that this chapter and my other fanfics along with those from amazing writers can help you all while stuck at home. All right, that's pretty much my whole spiel for now. Without further ado, here's Chapter 4 of TTDW-Enjoy!

"Your body is full of rage.
Every sinew. It is easy to read.
You speak volumes with a clenched fist."
( Paolo Bacigalupi: The Drowned Cities)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Seriously? Luce's alive?
That…. I can't...
A wave of overjoyed relief was washing over Natsu from the spectacular news about his best friend still breathing.
"Hear that Luce?!" He sobbed, not bothering to wipe the moisture from his eyes." You're alive and gonna be okay— Thank God! Really... don't ... know what I'd do without ya…," Scarlet-red eyes remained focused/trained on the face on the motionless angel in his arms.
"Pretty sure the guild and the rest of the people we know would be just as devastated if they lost such an incredible person and wizard . Glad you're okay either way though." Natsu's hands were stroking sweat-plastered strands of Lucy's hair back from her eyes with delicate care .
Really glad she's still in fact alive and kicking…
In that very moment , it was as if the world had fallen away; leaving just the two of them. Nothing else seemed to matter then . Not cold-blooded enemies in the room, or the recent battle just moments before; Not even E.n.d's unnerving metamorphosis. Just a dragon-demon and his most precious star with those subtle breaths, the visible rise and fall of her chest that somehow escaped any kind of major notice before.
Words can't even describe how relieved I am . Digits combed through Lucy's blonde tresses from crown to tip in a physical display of tender affection.
Hmm... Lucy's hair feels really nice. Natsu couldn't help but marvel at texture of her beneath his fingertips .Don't think I've ever stopped to fully appreciate it before .
"Gotta say that your hair feels really nice, Luce." Natsu voiced this innermost thoughts aloud; though his words were coming in soft. ."Smells real amazin' too."
Damn was the appealing fragrance of jasmine with a hint of cyclamen flooding his senses beyond intoxicating."like jasmine and that other flower we saw once— cyclamen, I think. . You've been using a new scented shampoo again, I see. Not that I'm complainin'."
"Psh—Listen to me" Natsu tacked on with a rueful chuckle that was still a bit thick from all that weeping before. " Gettin' all sentimental and crap. Hell... stripper would never even let me live it down if he heard . Still be damn proud of you though just like I am for how well you handled yourself in battle. Why don't we tell him all about it once you're awake and we're out of here?. Bet he'd like that . Till then, the two of us just need to sit tight and figure out our next move, okay?"
Wait ...
The fire demon's hands continued their fond movements- only for blood to freeze in his veins when noticing an unsightly contusion on Lucy's forehead; accented by a small gash just above her brow.
When did this happen? I swear those injuries hadn't there been seconds before .. .
Crimson eyes scanned his best friend's battered frame for further damage in alarm . My God... Natsu's breath caught in his throat at the sight of that line of discolorations on her legs . Not to mention all those scratches along with the small gash peeking out through the tattered remains of Lucy's Star dress .
"Oh Luce..." He sighed, remorseful voice breaking on her name. "Can see that you're in pretty rough shape right now. I'm so sorry. Honestly don't know how or why you had a delayed reaction to all the damage. But this wouldn't have happened if I only had grabbed you and run or got your spirits to transport you to their world, Hell— Maybe we could've both escaped and I could've helped kept you safe while figuring out this new demon form means for us together. Anyways, time to put pressure on your wound."
A hand tore a loose piece of fabric to apply pressure on the hemorrhaging wound. "See? You'll be okay . Gonnal get ya' all fixed up and good as new in no time ."
Damn Luce stills looks like an angel to me, Natsu mused in reverent admiration . Even with those injuries...
"Ooh- how cute!" Jackal's dervisie voice cut through the other demon’s reverie; whose arms automatically protectively tightened around Lucy's frame out of fierce instinct-automatic without a second though. Not to mention those two pair of eyes he could sense that set him on edge."
"Aw Damn." Jackal broke in again with a gleeful taunt that bordered on sadistic."That poor, pretty girl of you is covered in ugly bruises and scratches, Dragneel."
That little ...
Natsu's head automatically snapped around to meet Jackal with a baleful snarl. Damn was that all that black rage roaring in his veins all too consuming.
"There's that growling again" Jackal cackled, clearly unfazed at by the alpha demon's bared canines ." Bared fangs and what not. Such a shame what happened to Blondie here , or is it? You really did a number on her, huh Tempester?"
"Huh," Tempester mused, bland disinterest colouring his tone."it seems I did . Kind of forgot that my curses can sometimes have o delayed side effects on people . Who knows? That pathetic wrench might even have internal bleeding.
"You goddamned bastard!" The flame- eater raged, fury boiling over. "Lucy ain't pathetic or some kind of toy to play with ... God.. All those injuries… are you fault and . I swear that You're both gonna pay for what you did to her!"
"Oh-You think so?" Jackal scoffed with let out another infantilizing laugh —beyond infuriating .
"Someone's rattled." Tempster pointed out, listless eyes trained on the stone-brick wall ahead. "Unfortunate."
"You don't say," Jackal deadpanned, with a disdainful roll of the eyes ."But Seriously Though , E.N.D, do you even hear yourself? .I mean getting all riled up over a human girl in that way —talk about pathetic. Sure said girl is extremely beautiful with a killer bod and feisty personality to boot—I'll give you that. But is she worth losing your cool over or fraternizing with? I don't think so and neither should you . God knows all that pent up rage and aggression would be far more suited for another cause. Not to mention, you'd better off without her life tainting your judgement and hindering your full potential as the most powerful of all etherious. So let's resolve this, shall we? Hand over the celestial wizard and I'll gladly dispose of her for you . Sound good?"
" 'Sound good?'Sound Good?!’ Are you kidding me?"!
Good God did those last words only serve to incense the snarling dragon further.
" There's no way in hell I'm gonna give Lucy up or let either of you touch her!"
"Come on Dragneel-be reasonable."
"No-rot in hell!"
"Oh honestly E.N.D.-"
"My name is Natsu!"
"Well okay then, Natsu— Just calm down ." Jackal's couldn't seem to resist reprimanding the fire demon; as if he were some errant child pitching a fit ."You're being ridiculous. Anyways, tell you what. I promise to make her death as qui-"
"Shut up!"
" Quick and mostly painless..."
"I said shut up!" En.d's voice rose to an ear-splitting roar that could've struck terror into the hearts of the gods themselves. "Try anything on her and I swear I'll kill you!"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To Be Continued
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A/N: Well that's Chapter 4 folks- hope you enjoyed! Now a bit more about the pandemic situation in Ontario . Like many other provinces and countries around the world,, the government of Ontario has opted to shut down/ temporarily close non-essential services, businesses, public spaces and institutions to help curb the spread of the virus for a few weeks (or more) before spring break. Such institutions include all schools and childcare centres/ services in those settings which applies to the childcare company I'm currently employed with. You know on account of most of their centres and programs being based in public schools. (Independently-run Daycares also remain closed. And yes i'm a ECE by trade for any who were wondering or didn't already). Schools and child cares were tentatively scheduled to reopen after April 5th; though the closures have been extended for another month (according to Doug Ford (the premier/leader of Ontario). Not ideal but at least it gives me some extra time for me to work on things alongside my writing(i.e editing upcoming chapters for fics and WIPS). All right folks, that's all I have to say on that subject.
As usual, please feel free to let me know what you think by leaving a comment/review , through a reblog or by any other means. Be sure to check out the rest of my writing while staying tuned for future updates of my fics and new projects along the way! (Links above, in the navigation and in bio If on tumblr . Also on fanfiction.) Anyway, take care and stay safe! Ta ta for now!

Sweet Dreams
NaLu Fluff Week 2018
Prompt: Day 3: Comfort/Blanket
Summary: He sat there on the floor near the bed, taking in her sleeping form. He could sit there, watching over her forever. He wouldn’t let anyone put even a scratch on her. Not even himself. (Contains some subtle spoilers to the manga)
Genre: Angst/Romance
Rating: K+
It was a bright sunny day and the whole guild was in a cheery mood. It was festive time. Even in broad daylight everyone drank, continued their fun banter, picked fights and made merry.
But today, Natsu wasn't making a ruckus, or breaking things, or even fighting with Gray or Gajeel. Quite unlike him, today he was the silent spectator. He didn't know what they were celebrating, but nevertheless, he was having a good time.
"Looks like Lucy is rubbing off on you," said Erza who was sitting at the other end of the table. Natsu shrugged, and then smiled as the sound of Lucy's laughter drew his attention. He watched as she clapped happily at the dance performance being put up by Mirajane and Lisanna.
But the whole world seemed to blur, and focus only on Lucy. Her flowing long blonde hair and beautiful doe eyes shining as if they had entrapped the stars in them. Her smiles biting at his heart, leaving him feel a little uneasy.
Natsu knew what she did to him. She had become the most important person to him. He was ready to do anything for her, as long as he saw her radiant smile, as cheesy as that sounds. She meant the world to him.
"You should tell her before she slips from your fingers," it was Cana this time, smiling teasingly, sitting right behind him, and taking a swig from her barrel of booze.
"What do you mean?" Natsu said, though in the depths of his heart, he knew what she meant.
"Forget it, he doesn't get it. He probably doesn't even know what he feels," Wakaba laughed it off.
"Oh but it's written all over his face!" Juvia squealed, leaving Natsu stunned.
"No way," Natsu turned to see Gray who was right in front of him, reading the paper. "I think he knows exactly what he feels." Gray looked up from the paper "After all, he isn't that dense."
As far as he could remember, Gray was fighting Elfman near the bar...
"Yep, the Salamander is no fool. Take it from me." said Gajeel who was eating a metal plate.
Natsu couldn't believe what was happening. What did they mean by it? Why were they bringing all this up suddenly? Their words echoed in his head. It continued till Lucy's voice cut through them, "Natsu! Come dance with me!" Lucy pulled him along with her and now they were in the middle of guild. Gentle music was playing in the background, and there were a few couples swaying in the background, but all Natsu could focus on was Lucy and her hands over his neck. She had done the courtesy of placing his own on her waist.
It wasn't the first time they danced. Lucy had taught him formal dancing and they did so on many missions. But this time, there was a spark in every touch, a magic to every movement.
"I wish time would stop." Lucy whispered, stealing the words from his mouth.
He looked tenderly at the girl before him. From the moment she had walked into his life, it had never been the same. Without her, his life didn't have any meaning. And he wouldn't have it any other way. She was the most precious person. The one he treasured the most. He wanted to protect her with every fiber of his being, even if it meant sacrificing himself.
He was aware of her capabilities. She was never and will never be a damsel in distress. She was resourceful, clever and powerful. She had protected him numerous times, putting her life on stake. Her kindness, stubbornness and positivity intrigued him so much. She was irresistible.
Lucy's wasn't making it easy, each passing day making it more and more difficult for him to suppress his emotions. She was perfect and deserved everything good. He knew he wasn't the perfect guy out there.
But his selfish feelings always took over him, the feeling of keeping her all to himself. An intense longing for every touch, every embrace, and every moment together, burned like fire.
"Lucy, look at me" Natsu looked at her sternly. "Promise me that you'll never leave me."
"Even though it was you who left me behind for a year?" Lucy laughed.
"That's not what I meant." Natsu was serious.
Lucy's eyes softened. "Okay, Natsu." She smiled gently, "I promise." She pulled close and melted into his arms. For Natsu the whole world seemed to fade. He closed his eyes and held her close, never wanting to let go.
When he opened his eyes, everything had faded.
"Lucy?" Natsu looked around. "Lucy, where are you?"
Natsu walked around in the darkness, trying to use his dragon senses to find any clues of where she was.
Finally, he saw her waiting, her back facing him. He ran happily towards her, "Lucy! You're here!" he sighed with relief.
"I've been looking all over! Oi Lucy-" he watched in horror as Lucy collapsed at his feet, lying still with blood splattered over her face. "LUCY!" he screamed. He shook her body, " Wake up! Lucy!"
She didn't show a sign of movement. Natsu felt tears on his face, "No, you can't do this. You promised me. You promised that you wouldn't go." he whispered like a helpless child. "That you wouldn't leave me."
"It was you, you fiend." he heard a voice.
Natsu shouted in rage, "Who goes there?!"
He ran towards the source of the voice that said the same thing over and over again, "It was you! You!"
There was a cloaked figure before him. He yanked the cloak away and gasped. It was a mirror and in it, he saw his own reflection. But what looked back at him wasn't him. It was a demon. It was END.
"You killed Lucy Heartfilia!!! END!"
Natsu's eyes snapped open. His breathing was haggard and he was sweating profusely. The next thing he knew that he was running on the streets. He was running as fast as his legs could take him.
He jumped over the window and opened the door, entering in the room. Soft moonlight was streaming in the room. On the bed, there was a lump covered by the familiar pink blanket.
Natsu slowly pulled it and found Lucy, her chest rising and falling, taking deep breaths and very much alive. Natsu collapsed on the floor with relief. He lay there till he caught his breath, the familiar scent of Lucy and her home calming his nerves.
A sudden rumbling caught his attention. Lucy's soft snores echoed in the room.
Natsu broke into a laugh. "Here you are snoring, without a care in the world,"
He sat there on the floor near the bed, taking in her sleeping form. It seemed to calm him and his running thoughts. He could sit there, watching over her forever. He wouldn’t let anyone put even a scratch on her. Not even himself. He’d rather die than hurt Lucy.
"Hmm... Natsu... “ Lucy murmured softly in her sleep. Natsu's ears perked up at this. She was sleep talking. He waited with batted breath. "I need...the rent..." Lucy frowned. "80,000 Jewels..."
Natsu couldn't believe her! Even in sleep, all she could think of was rent. He slapped his forehead and fought the urge to wake her up or draw on her face.
"I'll let you stay....so...help me... " Lucy smiled a lopsided smile.
Natsu couldn't help but smile. He sat on the edge of her bed and patted her head. "Of course I'll help you, Lucy. I'm all yours... " He softly brushed her bangs away and kissed her forehead, “Sweet dreams.” He was about to get up when suddenly, Lucy's hands gripped his arm.
Natsu tried to free his hand as lightly as possible, as he didn't want to wake her up. He didn't want to face her wrath for waking her up in the middle of the night. Or for sneaking into her bedroom. Again.
"Crap, since when did Lucy become this strong?" Natsu cursed under his breath.
Seeing no other choice, Natsu decided to slip under the blankets and wait until Lucy would move.
It was cozy and warm, Lucy's scent intoxicating his sense of smell. He wanted to stay a bit longer…the stress and exhaustion was already making him drowsy…
Sunlight shined into the room and the birds in the nest outside Lucy's window chirped their morning song.
Lucy woke up feeling warm and fuzzy. It was the most comfortable feeling in the world. The soft bed and blanket combined with the right temperature. It was one of those days when she would wake up but continue lying with her eyes closed, salvaging every moment of comfort. The feeling of staying there and relaxing forever. It was utter bliss. She also felt a strange lingering feeling on her forehead.
All of a sudden, Lucy felt a heavy weight on her body. She opened her eyes and saw a hand over her neck and a leg on hear legs. She could her soft snores and felt warm breathing down her neck.
She craned her neck sideways and found the very person she expected to see. Natsu Dragneel sleeping away peacefully. He was on her bed, with her under the blankets, and holding her. His face inches away from hers.
"What the heck! Natsu!!!" Lucy screamed her lungs out. She kicked him to the floor along with the blanket. "I told you not to sleep in my bed!" Lucy blushed.
Natsu drowsily looked up at her, "Oh, you're awake." He cooped up into the blanket and went back to sleep on the floor.
"Don't go back to sleep!" Lucy smacked the back of his head.
Natsu scratched his neck, "Ouch... That hurt! What's the big deal?"
"What's the big deal?! You slept with me on my bed!" Lucy screeched, her blush becoming heavier by the second.
"What the heck... You said I could stay over yourself..." Natsu said in an as a matter of fact tone as if that made perfect sense.
"Wha- I did not!" Lucy crossed her arms angrily. “Don’t make up things Natsu!” she puffed her cheeks, the heavy blush still dusting her cheeks.
"Good Grief!" Natsu threw his hands in the air. "She snores at night and she's so screechy even early in the morning. Who will marry her at this rate?" Natsu made an indifferent face.
"What did you say?! Natsu I'm going to kill you, I swear to God, I'm not sparing you this time!" Lucy hollered picking things and throwing at him.
Effortlessly dodging them, Natsu walked away nonchalantly, "I'm using the toilet," He put his hands behind his head.
"Don't go deciding things for yourself!" Lucy threw a paperweight for a last attempt. "Just go home!" Natsu could hear her continuous grumbling as he walked through the corridor.
Natsu smiled to himself, "I wouldn't mind taking you though."

Grey Days
read it on the AO3 at http://bit.ly/2M1q0Zx

FanFiction: https://www.fanfiction.net/~lucyydragneel Rated: T First chapter of my NaLu Angst Week 2018
A/N: Hey guys! I'm back?! Anyway I decided to participate in NaLu Angst Week 2018 and I am very excited! I really hope you all enjoy these one shots and thank you all for your continuous support! Enjoy :D!
Day One: Shadows (AU)
Lucy's POV
Ever since my mother died I started to believe in strange things. Not really the paranormal per say but something like that. I was 5 years old when she died so I didn't really understand it. I just assumed that she would come home one day; she never did.
After her death was when I started to notice strange occurrences. The time I couldn't sleep for instance, I had always been afraid of thunder storms and my mother would be there to console me. She would play this music box I owned that had a dragon saving a princess on it, weird right? It was always calm me down. Well after she died and I was afraid the music would start playing. Yeah I know what you're thinking, "that's so creepy!" Well not to me.
It reminded me that somehow she was still here. As I grew older I realized that telling people these stories would freak them out, so I kept it all to myself.
On my 18th birthday I moved to Magnolia and decided to go to university. I had gotten a job at a local club called Fairy Tail. Everyone there was like family and I wasn't sure if I was going to fit in. I found out that most of them went to Magnolia University too.
They welcomed me and I met so many amazing people. There was one person in particular that I became very close with. His name was Natsu Dragneel. I will say at first his pink colored hair threw me off but then he smiled and I felt something. Something I haven't felt since my mother died; happiness. Of course I made other friends as well. Levy, Juvia, Erza, Cana, Mirajane and Lisanna as well as Gray, Elfman, Loke, Gajeel, Laxus, Gildarts and our boss Makarov.
Loke is a flirt and is convinced we will date one day. Levy is a total bookworm just like me and she's dating Gajeel which at first I thought was strange since they are complete opposites but I soon realized that they are cute together. Elfman, Mirajane, and Lisanna are siblings and they're all very sweet. Laxus is Makarov's grandson who is actually really sweet but acts like a total dick. Gildarts is Cana's dad and fawns over her every second which annoys her. Erza is… well… scary! She's super sweet but can turn into a demon in a split second. Juvia and Gray are dating and she is obsessed with him. Gray and Natsu are always fighting but then again Natsu fights with every guy we work with.
I can't really explain why Natsu and I became so close because it just happened. He slowly became my best friend and we told each other everything. I trusted him with my life. Slowly but surely I fell in love with him and I was too afraid to tell him. I feared that he would reject me and we wouldn't be friends anymore.
Flashback
Natsu was walking me back to my apartment since we both don't own a car. He doesn't like when I walk alone in the dark… which is cute.
"Hey Luce?" Natsu said. He looked nervous for some reason.
"Yes, Natsu?" I said. He started to play with his scarf and he only does that when he's nervous. "Natsu? What's wrong? Why are you so nervous?" I asked.
"Uh… well… um… fuck! Why is this so hard?!" He shouted.
"Natsu its okay you can tell me anything!" I said. He stopped walking and turned to me. I saw that we were across the street from Magnolia Park. It's our favorite park.
"C'mon lets go sit under our tree! Then you can tell me what's wrong!" I said. A few months ago Natsu and I carved our names in a huge Sakura tree we found. He smiled at me so I went to run across the street and waited for him to follow.
I heard him yell, "LUCY LOOK OUT!" And that's when I saw the headlights of the car that was coming towards me. I stood frozen in the middle of the street not knowing what to do. As the car was about to hit me something pushed me out of the way. I heard a thud and when I looked up I screamed.
"NATSU! NO! NO! NOOOO!" I screamed. I saw his body lying in the street... not moving. I ran over to him and thankfully he was breathing.
"Natsu? Can you hear me?! P-Please o-open your e-eyes!" I yelled while crying. He slowly opened his eyes and smiled weakly at me.
"I-It's gonna b-be o-okay… I-I'm gonna g-go c-call for h-help." I said as tears streamed down my face. As I reached for my phone Natsu grabbed my hand.
"N-No L-Luce… I-I d-don't t-think… I-I'm g-gonna m-make i-it…" He said weakly.
"WHAT?! Natsu no… I need t-to call f-for h-help…!" I stuttered.
"N-No L-Lucy. I-It's o-okay…" He said trying to reassure me. "I-I w-would r-rather die here w-with you…. t-then a-alone in an h-hospital…" He said. He smiled at me and squeezed my hand. At this point I was balling and my heart was breaking.
"Lucy… I-I wanted… t-to t-tell you… t-that I-I… love y-you a-and y-you're everything… t-to m-me… p-please don't c-cry… s-smile f-for me!" He said and smiled that special smile… the one that made me feel happy. I smiled through the tears but the smile was insincere.
"I… l-love you too N-Natsu! S-So much you changed m-my l-life and I-I could never thank y-you enough f-for it! B-But I CANT LIVE WITHOUT YOU! PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME!" I screamed hyperventilating from crying so hard. His breathing began to slow and his eyes started to lose that fire inside of them.
"I-I'll always b-be… with y-you…" He mumbled. His breathing became raspy.
I leaned down and kissed him… and then he was gone. I was holding him crying and screaming for him to come back to me; but just like my mom… he never did.
End Flashback
That was over a year ago and I have been so depressed. I could never love someone other than him. Everyone from Fairy Tail tries to cheer me up but I know they are all sad themselves. I took Happy, his blue cat… yes blue. It's like having a part of Natsu with me.
Since that night there has been this shadow in the corner of my room. I thought it was from my dresser but when I moved it… the shadow was still there. It looks like a person and I'd like to think that it's Natsu.
Tonight is one of those nights when I'm… afraid. When Natsu was alive he was there to calm me down during thunder storms and now that's he gone I don't know what to do.
I still have that music box but it hasn't played in a long time. I got up to close the curtains and curled up under my blanket.
Happy jumped up and plopped down near my head. As I was starting to fall asleep I heard something… no I heard… music. I looked at my dresser and my music box was playing. And like I said before it doesn't scare me.
I saw the shadow looming over the music box and thought it was my mind playing tricks on me until it moved its arm and touched my cheek… I felt it. It's real. I started to shake because I was so scared. As I was trying to get off my bed I heard someone say my name.
"Lucy…its okay…" I heard it say… no Natsu say!
"N-Natsu…?" I whispered. I smiled as I reached for the shadow… as I was about to touch it he disappeared. I pulled my hand back and started to cry… no sob. It felt like he died all over again and I thought my heart couldn't break anymore… but I was wrong.
I heard a thud from the corner and I jumped. I looked over to see the shadow standing there and my heart started beating faster. I realized he was here and he was protecting me. The music box was still playing.
Before I shut my eyes I saw the shadow closing the music box and say, "Sweet dreams Lucy… from your mother and me.
I hope you enjoyed it! I'm sorry if it isn't that good because I am just getting back into writing but hopefully the rest of the chapters will be better.

NaLu Angst Week - Night Sky
Why did he take this job again? He’d never know. Lying there on the cold forest ground, he attempted to sit up, only to be stopped by a stabbing pain that tore through his side. “Gah!” he shouted, clutching his side with his unsleeved arm. His usually white pants have crimson seeping into them. His eyes watered up, and he knew, this was it. There was no way out this time. The normally lush green forest was dyed purple, pink, and blue from the moonlight and stars. Not that he noticed with his vision blackening more every second.
“Stupid.. so stupi-” He grumbled, interrupted by a mouthful of blood that flew through his lips along with a horrendous coughing fit. His eyes crinkled when he tasted a coppery substance, for how much he loved fighting he never enjoyed the particular flavour of blood. He looked over at the little demon-monster thing that had caused his fatal injury. Of course, that thing was now a pile of bloodied ash but that didn’t stop Natsu from cursing him out. “… Bastard... unhh.”
Not knowing what else to do, he cried. With tears rushing down his face he pushed himself roughly back to a large tree trying not to disturb his injury. Back to the cut-off large tree trunk, he rested his head against it, closing his eyes. He reminisced, and when he opened his eyes to the beautiful starry sky, he saw constellations everywhere, half that he could name because of Lucy.
Lucy.
Lucy…
Natsu’s eyes widened when he started to hyper-ventilate. “No! No, no, no.” Crying and sobbing, he reached for the stars. “Please! In Mavis’ name, let me see her again. Let me see her…” He paused to catch his breath, or at least as much of his breath he physical could. “I have so much to tell her! I have so much to do!”
Ursa Major. Ursa Minor. Obrions’ belt. Cassiopia. Each constellations he saw and named made his heart get heavier and he didn’t know if it’s from the thought of her or blood loss. He clenched his teeth as he coughed up more blood, trying to stop it from happening. He closed his eyes to rest and all he saw was her stunning smile, so his eyes bolted open. He remembered meeting her in Hargeon and how much she talked, and talked. He loved it.
Why did he take this solo job again, all the way in Stella. He was supposed to be hanging out with her this weekend. She’s probably ecstatically expecting his return while he lay here dying in the forest . He could just imagine it now; it’s how she reacted every time he came home from a long solo mission. She had always ran up to give him a crushing hug and he would just wait to catch his bestfriend, telling himself it was just a best friend hug, regardless of the fact that the hug is ten seconds longer than it should be. Oh, that’s why he took this dumb, supposedly easy job, for a hug.
Now, he stared at the sky with tears running down his face shamelessly as his breath started to shorten.
“Luce… I’m so, so sorry.” Another clench in his side caused him to yell out. He remembered their last conversation.
---
“Alright Luce, I’m leaving!” He waved, his bag over his shoulder, as he stood in the station, train patiently waiting behind him.
“Okay. Promise to use your Lacrima to call!” She said, clutching her hands together over heart nervously. Looking expectantly at him, she took a step forward and bit her lip, as though she was waiting for something.
“I will, I will!” He responded waving his arms. The train behind him whistled twice.
He stopped for a moment. This was his chance. He could kiss her, and he stared, contemplating. Then he spun abruptly, pivoting on his left foot. “See ya’ Luce!” He shouts, turning to walk backwards so he could wave.
Shaking her head, she cupped her mouth and yelled, “Remember, you’re in Stella! Look at the stars to remember me, ‘kay!” Her voice got slightly quieter the farther she got away.
He poked his head out the window—he’s fine because of Troia, thank you Wendy—and shoutd back, “Will do, Luce!” Even after she’s out of sight he stared contently. Man, he missed his chance.
Sighing, he pulled his head back in and saw an old man smiling at him warmly, and as he sat, he swore he heard the man mumble, “Young love..”
So what if he had missed his chance. There’ll be more when he gets back.
---
He should’ve kissed her! There won’t be more!
What if she finds someone? What if they get married and have kids? No. No! Lucy was his. “But, she really isn’t.” He whispered to himself still staring at the sky. Of course she wasn’t: he had always been too scared to make any move on her. He had been too afraid of rejection, of the word ‘no’, of her leaving him behind, just like Igneel did.
Their first kiss … He couldn’t even get that done. Their first time, what it would’ve been like, where he would’ve claimed her, made her truly his, and their wedding, them moving in together, her birthdays, every holiday together, every anniversary, he’s going to miss every one.
Their kids, he imagined a boy with Lucy’s blond hair, wearing his scarf, and prancing around screaming “I’m fired up now.” And he could imagine a little girl, with fluffy pink hair, and Lucy’s beautiful, beautiful brown eyes, staring up at him and extending her arms as an invitation to pick her up. In his head, he heard her say, “Daddy!”
Only in his head though, of course, because those kids are never going to exist.
“No!” He couldn’t leave that behind. Not Lucy, he could’t leave her behind. He wanted that future desperately, so he attempted to stand. First on his knees, with some heavy breathing for good measure, right? One foot, now both on the ground. He’s up, so he started to walk. He walked for twenty minutes, maybe? He saw it, the town.
But he got drowsy, and he fell.
Slowly, Natsu realised that demon thing must’ve had poisen on that stupud knife. He lay on his side, letting his tears run. “No, no, I’m so sorry. I love you.”
He rolled over and stared at the sky, thinking of Lucy.
---
As Lucy sat at her table writing, she felt a warm sensaion in her chest, so she lifted her head to look out the wndow, seeing the beautiful stars. “Natsu…” She smiled.
Then suddenly she felt her heart surge in pain (similar to when her mom died, but much, much worse). But… why?

Nalu Angst Week, Day 4
Ohhh this one is very heartbreaking. Queen of Angst, @sweetmemories2606 I know this one will make you very proud!
It’s shorter than I’d like, but im literally so obsessed with how it is right now that i physically couldn’t add anything else!
Summary: Though much of him is the same, there’s a lot about him that has changed. On the other side, he worries she’s moved past him. They both feel so close, and yet further away then ever.
“Miles Apart, Two Inches Away”
The moment the hood came off, she couldn't breathe. That smile, bright as ever. The flames, hotter than she had ever felt before as she scrambled to cover her bare chest; even high in the stadium that she was, the intense heat from his fire had melted away her shirt. That pink hair, now longer and messier, was as recognizable as ever. Happy perched on her shoulder, and for a moment her heart swelled. She was the happiest she had been in a year. When Natsu looked up and saw her, and his whole face lit up, her heart soared. Her life was coming back. Everything was going back to normal. Once she had taken him home to her apartment though, after telling him about what had happened to Fairy Tail, Lucy realize that everything was never going back to normal. He still had broken her heart. He had abandoned her. He had left her behind for some reason, and they had only ran into each other because he had wanted to fight the winner of the Grand Magic Games. If she hadn't been there, would he have ever come looking for her? He hadn't understood her anger at first, but after learning about what happened after he'd left, Natsu felt guilty. He had ran away because he'd felt powerless, but he had never once thought his friends would hurt so bad with him gone. He couldn't blame her if she hated him. He prayed and hoped that she didn't, because he didn't think he could stand a future without her. It had always been his plan to come back. But she didn't know that, and she had no reason to believe him if he said so. Hearing all the adventures between him and Happy hurt her. How they'd burned down a mountain. How he'd fought Gildarts. He trained and got immeasurably strong, just as she'd seen in the arena. And he'd done it all without her. Her heart sunk, and she desperately wished she had been with him. Being away from her had killed him, but he couldn't take her with him. Natsu wished she was fawning over him and his new strength, but he knew how selfish that was of him to desire. He watched her smile, watched her take care of him as he told her his stories, and he could see the pain in her eyes. Eyes that he had missed all along. A voice that he had strained his ears to hear. Her smell that haunted him in his dreams, teasing him, wrapping him up in her softness. He smiled to hide his intense protectiveness, something that he didn't deserve to feel. So much about him has changed in just one year. Lucy thought. She doesn't have the same sparkle in her eyes anymore, and it's all my fault. Natsu realized. They sat and talked for hours, but only the blue Exceed sitting on the shelf above them saw the things they were really thinking. What if he leaves me behind again? She despaired. What if she's moved on from me? He didn't think he could ever stand being away from her ever again. Only Happy saw both sides of the coin, of the thoughts of both the humans he cared about most in the world. The two who were his family. Neither could see the true meaning behind the other's words. I could never move on past Natsu. I could never leave Lucy behind again. Yet they never voiced their doubts, subsequently allowing the other to reassure them. Happy watched as Natsu Dragneel and Lucy Heartfilia tore themselves apart while sitting two inches away from their own salvation. I didn't tell him enough how much he meant to me. I should have told her everything. All Happy could do was look between them, at the crumbling relationship in front of him, even though on the outside they were both smiling. Can I ever trust him again? Will she ever trust me again? Can I tell him... Can I tell her... How much it hurt to be without you? Thousands of unspoken words, with dozens of unanswered questions. Two people who wanted nothing more than to be as close as they had once been, but too scared to cross the line that had been drawn. Though they sat next to each other on the couch, though Natsu's touch lingered on her and Lucy leaned into him a little more than she should, the two of them had never had more distance between them. I want to be mad at you, but I don't want to ever lose you again. I want you to be happy, but I’d kill anyone who made you happier than I can. Their thoughts converged on the same three words. Words that they both believed wholeheartedly, but knew they could never say. I love you, Natsu. I love you, Lucy. But I don't think I could ever deserve yours.

"And she's thinking of rage, like an ember or a burning acid swallowing up her knotted viscera. Blindness like the kind that leads men to perpetrate horrors, animal drunkenness, the jungles of the mind. "
(Alden Bell: The Reapers Are The Angels, Reaper Series)
"If you lay a hand on her, I will destroy you. I will rip your head off with my bare hands and watch you burn in the sun ."
(Dimitri Belikov: Vampire Academy, Book 1)
(What'd you know? Found two quotes that really fit the overall tone of this chapter again)
" You okay Natsu?"
Lucy's gentle call of Natsu's name broke through his reverie bringing his attention back to the present."
"Yeah Luce, just trying to figure out how to wrap my head around all this" came Natsu's reply, sincere words nothing but reassuring. The dragonslayer knew he mostly wasn't one to lie, but also didn't wish to run the of risk alarming his best friend any further than she was .
Besides, I am actually okay—for the most part . Just gotta try and stay positive for Lucy's sake.
Natsu did notice however, that if he concentrated just enough, he could actually will the newly-sprouted leathery wings to retract just enough until they were gone completely— a tremendous relief if nothing to say the least .
"What about you? How are ya ' holding up?"
"Not entirely well, but a bit better with you here . "
"I know, it's a lot to take in right now—believe me. But I promise we're gonna be okay."
"There's not a doubt in my mind but what're we going to do?"
"We'll figure it—"
The sound of approaching footsteps echoing on stone broke through their conversation putting Natsu's senses on high alert. It was then to the realization dawned upon the fire demon that in all the mayhem, he'd forgotten they weren't alone; mentally cursing himself for having let such a critical fact slip his mind. Not to mention the sinking knot in settling the pit of his stomach when it was the demon Tempester, Natsu lifted his head to see striding towards them with a sinister expression; which raised his hackles enough for his lips to pull back revealing a flash of canines in a savage show of teeth.
"What do you think you're doing?!" He growled, a flare of stonecold fury ticking through scarlet eyes, The sound of his warning was downright ferocious, not to mention lethal with the threat of violence if the other etherious even so much as tried to lay a hand on Lucy. "Stay the hell away from us!"
Tempester merely raised a hand in response as if to silence him, clearly not deter any of Natsu's feral growls ripping from his chest.
"Easy there Lord E.N.D— no need to be so hostile" The etherious's voice was seemingly unruffled , a chillingly stark contrast to the malicious smile gracing his lips—so much so it sent off alarm bells off in Natsu's head. "I only wished to officially welcome you to our ranks as Master for which congratulations are in order. You've finally returned home to us, all while starting to realize your true potential in the process—though we didn't know it was you at first. Still, it's good to have you back after being away so long Now allow me to be of service by disposing of the celestial wizard for you as an act of good faith."
The thinly- veiled threat kicked Natsu's already fiercely protective instincts to keep Lucy safe into high-gear, manifesting in another guttural snarl of bestial proportions he let loose when his arms automatically tightened against her of their own accord at the same time.
"Touch her you bastard and I swear I'll burn ya' to a crisp!"
If he even tries anything... I swear to God...
Something strange seemed to stirring within Natsu just then, the infinite possibilities of all the unimaginable amount of the blood he could spill if the other demon didn't heed the warning ; appealing to a darker part of him that was once dormant. His words clearly seemed to fall on deaf ears however, when Tempester took another step forward—which only served to make the dragonslayer's blood boil.
"Hey! didn't you hear what I just said? stay back—don't come any closer!" Natsu hissed, baleful voice laced with venom that bordered on lethal. "Unless you want me to incinerate you you stand." One of his hands not pressed against Lucy's back was immediately engulfed in flames to empathize his point at the same time.
Pretty sure I could quite literally roast this guy if I have to. I'm not afraid to have little blood on my hands if it means protecting Lucy.
The ominous-sounding, residual, voice Natsu heard earlier seemed to stir again ; whispers echoing in the recesses his mind of just how easy it would be to set Tempester blaze, quite literally going up in flames without so much as being touched. Thoughts swimming, tempting Zeref's most powerful etheriouswith sadistic images of sizzling flesh melting off bone, blood vessels rupturing, liquified internal organs being broiled from the inside out until there was nothing left of the worthless lesser demon- scum known as Calamity but a charred pile of ashes. Oh the demon lord thirsted for this bastard's blood, how he's—-
Wait— just what the hell am I thinking?! Natsu railed against himself. I may be a demon, but I'm not some bloodthirsty monster! Butchering people like that ain't my style—not anymore anyway. God... what's wrong with me? Still , I'm gonna keep Lucy safe regardless of who or what I am.
"Master, if you just hand the girl over me I promise to make her death as swift and painless as possible."
Tempester's coldblooded voice snapped the fire wizard out of his reverrie.
"Not a chance ! There's no way in hell that I'm giving Lucy up to you!"
"Oh? Is that you already exercising your authority I hear?" Tempester praised, words pulling the corner of lips up into a smirk as if caught was between genuine amusement and pride. "I'm impressed."
"Yeah? Well that's just too damn bad, cuz I couldn't give a crap bout being your stupid master!"
" Yes, well, you might feel that way now but you'll change your mind— you'll see. It's only a matter of time before you realize who you're truly meant to be and help restore our guild. Not to mention remake this pathetic world in our image."
It was then that Lucy finally opted to speak up who no doubt probably had been watching the tense encounter with uneasy eyes up until this point.
"You're clearly out of your mind if that's what you think Natsu is all about!" She seethed , honey-brown eyes, alight with a obstinate fire. "Don't you dare you talk about Natsu as if you know him! He's not the monster you say he is—not anymore!"
"Oh really? That so, little girl?" Tempester's scoffed , disdain colouring his patronizing tone. " Now tell me— why should I listen to pointless chatter from a pathetic human like you ?
"Cuz she's right,"The son of Igneel's words rang with steely conviction when he chimed in response to the other etherious . "And definitely not pathetic. In fact, hearing you run your god damn rotten mouth about her like that makes me want to help her bash your ugly face in." Hearing Lucy's words of faith was honestly enough for his heart to trill, Tempester's of utter contempt in regards to his best friend for his blood to boil; All in all, steeling his nerves for combat.
"Yeah? I'd sure as hell like to see that!"
"Oh, you will— trust me."
His body automatically steeling himself for battle, Natsu pledged a vow to keep his the celestial mage safe from harm.
No matter what happens, I swear I'm gonna do whatever it takes to protect Lucy and to fight this darker part of me for everyone's sake . I will prove this Calamity bastard who think he knows me wrong, not to mention make everyone I love and care for proud— especially Igneel, Lucy and Happy.
To Be Continued

A Year in Review for ship-ambrosia - Fanfiction Writers 2018
So I saw a blog I’m a huge fan of do this sort of year reflection of fanfiction writing, and since this was the first year I’ve ever posted my fanfictions, I thought it’d be fun to do!
First off I wanna thank @sweetmemories2606 @allie-and-her-fandoms and @a-fairy-tail44 for constantly encouraging me, being there to bounce ideas off of, also basically being beta readers for me and my hype men... you guys rock. I’m so glad I met all of you.
total number of completed stories
- “Completed” is kind of relative isn’t it? Lol... I have 13 stories posted on AO3, 4 that are on tumblr only, and of those 17 three of them, Heavens Bringer, A Fool Like Him, and Inherit Thunder (previously Heir of Electricity) are unfinished. Three of them are a collection of one-shots from Gruvia, Jerza, and Nalu week, but they’re all so short I’m going to count them as all together.
- There is so much unposted stuff in my backlog that you wouldn’t even believe lol most of it is unfinished though
total word count
- 81000 on AO3. I don’t even want to go and count otherwise
fandoms written in
- Fairy Tail
- My Hero Academia
- RWBY
- Persona 5
- Voltron (behind the scenes)
- Fire Emblem (behind the scenes)
looking back, did you expect to write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected?
- Let me just say that posting the first two fanfictions, Inherit Thunder (BNHA, kamijirou) and Liberation (RWBY, Blacksun), were totally on a whim. My roommate encouraged me to do it and see what kind of feedback I got on them. Boy am I glad I did. So let me tell you my motivation and progress has been absolutely astounding to me.
what’s your own favorite story of the year?
- This is so hard, because I’ve been in love with all the stories as I posted each of them, like oh yeah this is it this is my best one. Every time lol. I’d have to say though it’s probably The Droplet (FT, Gruvia). Reading my first gruvia fanfiction Four Degrees, and then going to The Droplet, you can really see not only how well my writing has improved, but also how much better I’ve done in understanding Gray and Juvia. Also I happen to find the beginning of it still really sexy lol that was difficult for me, writing a scene that was sexy that was going to be posted for the world to see.
did you take any writing risks this year?
- I think the style that I wrote A Sound Like Thunder (BNHA, iidamei) and Beauty and the Crow (P5, Akeharu) was a different style than um used to, with the story being told in chunks that didn’t quite fit together perfectly but still built off one another. Basically they could have been multi chapter fics but I wrote them like a short story and both of those stories I had to have read over a thousand times because I wanted them to be perfect.
do you have any fanfic or profit goals for the new year?
- One, to finish Heavens Bringer which I think is very plausible since I’ve been working on the last chapter a lot lately. Another is just to get more consistent with finishing and posting works, because right now it’s just like, here from me every so often and going like a month or two without posting any sort of writing. Maybe even to write less ship-focused works. I love ships but I don’t think all my writing has to be only romantic
best story of the year?
- Certainly one of my Fairy Tail fanfictions, though I’m not sure which. Heavens Bringer definitely has the most effort put in, but both The Droplet and A Fool Like Him (Ft, stingyu) have such in-depth, emotional breakdowns of Gray and Sting respectively and how I see them viewing their primary love interest that I think both of those stories have a fascinating draw. Also, I’m extremely proud of my Nalu Angst week prompts, I go back and re read them all the time. I think some of my best work resides in that collection, most notably the story titled “Miles Apart, Two Inches Away” from when Natsu and Lucy reunite after the post-Tartaros timeskip.
most popular story of the year?
- That’s easily Everything was the Same (Except when it wasn’t), my first Nalu story. On AO3 it has 755 Hits and 72 kudos, the most for both of all my stories. Which I find so funny because I wrote that story in under an hour lol.
story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
- Heavens Bringer, by far. I like to think it’s amazing, and my friends seem to love it, but it’s gotten very little recognition. I’d love for more people to read it, and it has all the big four ships and I’ve devoted soo much time to it. But the feedback I HAVE gotten has been absolutely wonderful!
most fun story to write:
Beauty and the Crow, A Sound Like Thunder, or Nalu Angst Week. I hurt so much while writing all three, but I loved it. Beauty and the Crow because Akechi and Haru’s relationship would be just as tragic as I’ve written it, A Sound Like Thunder because iidamei is normally such a goofy ship and I literally almost killed Iida and made Mei Hatsume cry, and Nalu Angst Week because well... painful feels. But I enjoyed the dark places that my writing went.
story with the single sexiest moment:
Haven’t written (read: published) a ton of sexy scenes. I think The Droplet wins for the part where Gray almost pulls off Juvia’s underwear with his teeth, only to be interrupted by their baby.
most sweet story:
- Nuclear Fusion. No angst, it’s straight up injecting Nalu parenting fluff into your bloodstream lol
“holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you!” story:
- Nothing yet?? Maybe hurting Iida and Mei in A Sound Like Thunder. I need to write a goofy fic with the two of them, honestly.
story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
- I’m going to say Inherit Thunder. I used to think of Kaminari as just a total goofball. Coming up with the idea of his parents as villains gave so many deep possibilities to why Kaminari wants to be the “trendy” popular boy or where he could come from, what his motivation for being a hero could be. I could be totally right, or totally off. But it definitely made me so much more intrigued by what Horikoshi could have planned for him.
most unintentionally telling story:
- When you read Heavens Bringer you see exactly what kind of Fairy Tail fan I am. Lol
hardest story to write:
- Heavens Bringer! Lol. Also worked on Beauty and the Crow for a long time, because I couldn’t decide what direction I exactly wanted to take Haru and Akechi - did I want to follow the plot? Did I want to make Haru and Akechi fall in love, or make it a series of moments? Did I want lots of dialogue, or did I want it to be more narrated? It was a lot of stylistic choices that went into that one but I’m totally happy with how it turned out!
biggest disappointment:
- I worked on a Baccana story for sooo long and then I ended up deleting it because it was turning into very cliche, Gildarts-doesn’t-approve-so-he-challenges-Bacchus-to-a-fight and I didn’t want to write a fic that had already been done 30 times (not that Gildarts and Bacchus fighting because Bacchus likes Cana isn’t great... it’s just that most people who like that ship have already written that).
biggest surprise:
- Uhh, Inherit Thunder being as popular as it was received? I’ve gotten dozens of messages asking for a sequel and it’s really an incredible feeling to know people want more of a story. It was originally gonna just be a one-shot, but now I’m writing a second chapter that will probably come out after Heavens Bringer is done.
some stuff in the works for the new year:
- Obviously, Heavens Bringer part 5 and chapter 2 of Inherit Thunder
- Working on several more chapters to A Fool Like Him, it’s basically just all suffering for Sting lol
- A multi chapter Baccana fic AU-ish in which Cana joins Quatro Cerberus during the Tartaros timeskip after Fairy Tail is disbanded
- Multi chapter Gruvia and Gale fic about Juvia disappearing after leaving to search for answers to her origin, leaving Gray and Gajeel desperate to find her
- Stingyu Cinderella/Princess and the Pauper AU
- A Yang x Ilia piece (FINALLY! LOL)
- May eventually clean up and post an experimental fic where I practiced writing combat with Sun and Neptune vs Mercury
- Ryuji x Ann getting together post-canon
- Future Ryuji x Ann single dad Ryuji AU
- Haru x Akechi Military/sort of Fullmetal Alchemist AU?? Idk it was inspired by fanart
- Maybe post some of my Voltron/Fire Emblem stuff eventually? Idk about those
If you read this entire post seriously thank you!! And thanks to everyone who’s read my fics, sent me messages about them, or just talked to me in general!! I love interacting with the communities!!

Grey Days( reuploadfrom dragon-shield-maiden account)
Grey Days
Vera's May Prompt Challenge 2018 Prompt(s)9when on dragon-shieldmaiden): "Don't leave me! (Sort of implied in an angsty sense of the word) Genres: Romance, Fantasy, Friendship/Family, Angst/Drama Hurt/Comfort, Tragedy(due to this being from Natsu's/E.N.D's Perspective), Gothic fiction, and Poetry
Characters: Natsu/E.N.D, Lucy , Gray, Diamara, Igneel and Zeref Pairing: Nalu/Endlu (Natsu x Lucy/ E.n.d Natsu x Lucy)
Rating: K+-T for some violence, references to death, mature and dark themes. Reader Discretion is advised for those younger than 12 or 13 years and/or anyone who may not at the level of development (maturity) to handle such heavy subject matter . Side note: Please use your own judgement and proceed with caution before deciding to read If uncertain as to whether you're comfortable with such themes.
Summary: Without his most precious star and father's light, the demon of hellfire is lost—all days perpetually gray. For the loss of his beloved really does drive the heart mad. A retelling of the events surrounding Natsu's/E.n.d's transformation (chapters 503-505) from his perspective in poem form. Title taken from the song of the same name by Chelsea Wolfe. Originally For Vera's May Prompt Challenge and Nalu angst week 2018 on previous accounts . Nalu/Endlu
A/N: Hey guys, it's your girl Millennial Stargazer (formerly known as twishadowhunter/ comsicdragonqizard/dragon-shield-maiden/star-crossed-dragon! I'm finally back under a new name (on fanfiction and tumblr as millennial-star-gazer) after months of forced hiatus due to personal extenuating circumstances (which can be explained via private message for those who already don't know why) This time it's an reupload of an installment in the wonderful universe of Fairytail—an angsty gothic little ditty retelling the events of chapters 503-505 and other related chapters mostly from Natsu/E.n.d's perspective which was originally as an entry for Vera's May Prompt Challenge and for Nalu angst week 2018 on my previous dragon-shield-maiden account (tumblr). As you may know, the title is taken from the evocative song of the same name by the lovely Chelsea Wolfe which has heavily inspired the poem.
Yes, I know there's been a lot of poems on my profiles, though I do also write other kinds of non-poetry works if my ongoing fics Tantric Flames and the Draconic Demon -soon to be reuploaded by the way- among others are anything to go by). Also partially by Within Temptation's The Heart of Everything plus the musical body of works from Peter Grundy (Bury My Heart) Brunuhville (River of Tears), Nights Amore (This Dreadful Emptiness , That Which is Called Void, Twisted Goa: Lone Deranger , and A Billion Stars Will Die Today) and Adrian Von Ziegler (Ashes, Twisted, Heaven's Touch, One, My Everything, Ethello-iel and Even in Death) who are all incredibly talented composers in their own right that you should check out! (The songs can be found by by clicking on the song titles or via google. Also see below for "Grey Days" if on Tumblr)
Anyway, I don't think y'all need me warning you that spoilers are present when it's already pretty apparent. Without further ado, here's the poem. Don't forget to let me know what you think by leaving a leaving comment/review. (Links to everything below, sidebar and bio if on tumblr plus Fanfiction profile). Enjoy!
Disclaimer: As you all know by now Fairytail does not belong to me, but the most honourable Hiro-sensei instead, for whom without this labour of love wouldn't be possible.

"Grey and holy You said it was the first time Like the morphine You take it all away Pretend it's okay The grey days" (Chelsea Wolfe: Grey Days)
“A lifeless lover was the high mountains” Where we tried to reach the stars The moon, the ways beyond It was the purest love of all”
(Draconian: Pale Tortured Blue)
“If all else perished,
and he remained,
I should still continue to be;
and if all else remained,
and he were annihilated,
the universe would turn to a mighty stranger
(Heathcliff: Wuthering Heights)
"Natsu!" The screams of his celestial maiden Oh how, they call to the dragon of fire through the darkness piercing the shadows of his subconscious Severing the ties that bind
His eyes open The Gods of Time themselves defied Damaria decimated in the blast Scorch and crimson stains through tattered remnants of fabric on skin All within the blink of an eye
Natsu's attempts to rouse the motionless angel in his arms fail when she does not stir Scarlet tears a ghastly sight No single heartbeat , nor breath of life he can hear Vital signs so pined for falls on deaf ears The perceived second loss of the brilliant star in his universe drives him over the edge enough to fully awaken the infernal power within
Flashes of the two's life together before the demon's very eyes River of tears flowing like cascading rain A grief-stricken kiss of on the zodiac wielder's forehead of farewell A piece of his soul here now dying right along with her Oh how the agony of her absence cuts right down to to the bone Soulmates , would-be lovers torn asunder The great divide all together just too much for the demon of black flames’ unholy, forlorn, heart to bear How could it not be when the iridescent light of a billion stars was blotted out from the midnight sky? Never to shine again
Oh, how the cursed fates are cruel
"Zeref, where is Zeref?" The name of the fire demon's accursed brother spilling from his lips over and like a non-nonsensical mantra as if he's a deranged mad man Onward the song of Igneel trudges Any with prying eyes from afar
may just see infernal darkness incarnate annihilate all
those who block his path fall at his feet in firey wake Driven by bloodthirsty instinct to obliterate the creator
Forward E.N.D marches on the hunt in search of his so-called dear brother Eye for an eye Tooth for tooth Raging thirst for the other's blood All in all vengeance apparent
The thought of meeting his inevitable demise just barely crosses the prince of hell's mind yet he cares not For without his the light of his father and most dear com he is lost, all days perpetually gray No tomorrow in sight Totality of his desolate existence an infinite void Devoid of meaning just the same
Reunited they all will at least be in the the golden fields of Avalon after his spirit departs
Just Lucy wait, Natsu tells himself in his arms she soon will be on the other side when he crosses the threshold Watching over those so precious together Instead of her buried along with his heart six feet underground Side by side at last Apart nevermore
A figure, there standing in the distance the son of Igneel finally catches a glimpse Is it the one he's been searching for? No, just the ice devil slayer himself Former brothers in arms , comrades in life Mortal foes now, team mates no longer Infernal hellfire and ice will clash A rift far too vast to mend Shattered remnants of a fraternal bond beyond repair All for naught Natsu's goal of sanguinary retribution clear Purging the world of the one who started it all Even it means cutting down almost any who stand in his way The loss of etherious's beloved really does drive the heart mad Delerium not overcome
Oh, but little does the demon know that his most
precious star lives
If only he could see how she still breathes Alive and well
Alas he does not
All is not lost
In the end, who alone will stop the volatile discord? Who alone will be brave enough to be up to the task? Oh, who alone will stop the clash?

A/N: Hope you all enjoyed! Just a few housekeeping notes in terms of clarification and reminders.
1. "Scarlet Tears" is one of the literary metaphors used in poem alluding to the blood stains under Lucy's eyes after Diarma attempted to scratch them out-unsuccessfully I might add (Thank God lol). The whole bit about regarding the stars being blotted out overall symbolizes Natsu's/E.N'D grief who feels that the world—or his world at least— has become that much less brighter without one of his best friend's light. Not to mention his existence ceasing to have meaning in the wake of so much loss—especially just one year after Igneel's death. Yes, he loves and cares for his other friends a great deal—especially Happy-, but losing them (with a few exceptions like said cat ) isn't quite the same as losing Lucy to death— at least not to the point as being as soulcrushing. I am by no means trying to downplay how much he values others in life—just offering my take since naturally the loss of someone is only futher magnified based on the nature of the relationship and how close you were which is no different for our favourite dragonslayer. In the end, Natsu/e.n.d ultimately would much rather be with Lucy and Igneel in the afterlife watching over their other friends in the afterlife than be without the former in the realm of the living—once he's had a chance to destroy Zeref with his bare hands (most likely using fire and whatever else he has at his disposal—Natsu I mean.) Just so you know ?.
2. To anyone who were following my other works on previous accounts , The Draconic Demon Within is a semi-au Nalu/Endlu fic in which it follows the original timeline of events from the manga and anime up until chapter 478 or so where Natsu saves Lucy from certain death by intercepting Jacob's attack just in the nick of time. After his brutal defeat is where the plot of TDDW deviates. In this fic, the original Team Natsu(Natsu, Lucy, Happy) soon gets word that the Tartaros has remerged with resurrected members and forged an alliance with the Alvarez empire they've (save a few such as Brandish)— all while overthrowing Zeref in the process now that they've gained total independence.
Natsu and Lucy are then lured to Tartaro's new base of operations (in part because said dragonslayer wasn't about to let his girl go barging in alone what with her being one of the people he's most protective of for obvious reasons and all) where they subsequently learn from Tempester that his (Natsu's) life is no longer tied to his brothers —which comes as a shock to you know who that it was mind you—; all this before an incantation is recited from a particular tome to fully awaken the demonic aspect of Natsu's identity from within now that the seal is broken. Pretty sure you guys know the rest for which the rest of the plot unfold as more chapters are posted. Just thought you guys should know in case anyone had any questions about the original timeline of the Fairytail series fits in with TDDW. I'll be sure to post this within the bottom A/N notes in the one chapters in the process of revison of said fic. Side note: I hope to start reposting while also uploading new chapters for both this fic, Tantric Flames and others in the works ASAP.
All right y'all, that's it for now. Be sure to let me you know what you think by leaving a review/comment and don't forget to give the rest of my writing a read once posted/. (Corresponding links above in this post, in sidebar and bio if on tumblr. Also on my Fanfiction profile)! Many thanks once again to all who've been supporting me thus far (including my friends/mutuals, followers and readers)! Until next time—take care!

NaLu Angst Week 2018: Day 4
So I'm posting this literally minutes before leaving for my Uncles house in the middle of nowhere, so if posts are even more off schedule, forgive me, as I have no idea how the internet will be or how much time I’ll have to write.
But anyway, enjoy Day 4: Distance
“Come on Natsu, being away from Lucy for one day is not going to kill you.” Lisanna said from her seat next to Natsu at the bar. She watched the dragon slayer pout as Lucy waved goodbye to Wendy and Erza. Lucy was going out on a small solo job, and she held the flyer in her hand as she walked out of the guild hall.
“Cheer up Natsu!” Mira smiled as she wiped down the bar. “Lucy will be back in no time, I’m sure. Besides, you can always hang out with Happy!”
Natsu glanced over to where the blue exceed was seated, chatting happily with Lily and Carla.
“Something tell’s me he’s busy.” Natsu muttered grumpily.
“Oh quit complaining, I’ll hang out with you if you’re really that bored without Lucy around.” Lisanna offered.
“It’s not just that I'm bored,” Natsu explained, “I also don’t understand why she would choose now to take a solo job. With all those Zeref worshippers attacking random villages? How she know the village she’s going to isn’t next?!”
“Awww, Natsu’s worried for his partner!” Mira cooed.
“Am not…” He grumbled, resting his chin on the bar.
“Don’t stress yourself out Natsu, Lucy’s strong, whatever happens, she can handle it.” Lisanna reassured.
“I know she’s strong! I told you I’m not worried…I just…I’m just going to be mad if she gets to have some big awesome fight against Zeref without me.” Natsu gave a confident nod, as if trying to convince himself that was truly what his concerns were.
“Right…” Mira said, not believe his lie.
“He likeeesss her.” Lisanna teased, doing Happy’s job for him, since the cat wasn’t nearby.
“I do not! I just don’t want her getting hurt!” Natsu cried, throwing his hands up in exasperation.
“Ha! So you admit, you are worried!” Mira pounced on his slip up.
“What?” Natsu gave a puzzled look, until he realized what he had said. “Ugh! You guys are impossible!” Natsu threw himself from his stool, stomping off to find Gray. A good fight was the best way to deal with his mess of emotions right now.
Lisanna couldn’t help but giggle as he stormed off.
“You saw him blush too, right?” Mira asked, biting her lip to keep from laughing. “Oh yeah, he was totally blushing.” Lisanna confirmed.
“He is so hopeless.” Mira sighed. And finally, the two sisters couldn’t keep it in any longer, as they burst out laughing. When their laughter died down, Mira took on a more concerned tone.
“I won’t lie, I’m slightly worried for Lucy too.”
Lisanna scoffed. “I’m not, have you seen her fight? Like, really fight. She’s a total badass. Besides, we both know the second she’s in danger, Natsu will be at her side, no matter what town she’s in.”
Mira smiled at the cup she was cleaning. “Yeah, it kind of concerns me how protective he can be of her sometimes.”
“He’s protective of what he loves, whats wrong with that?” Lisanna shrugged.
“I’m just worried that one day, it’s going to do more harm then good.”
