The Quest for Buddhism (36)
The family of Siddhartha (Buddha)
Devadatta - Cousin, brother-in-law, disciple and transgressor [Part1]
Looking round to see whom he could convince to honour him, Devadatta decided to approach Prince Ajatasattu, the heir to the Magadhan throne. Having psychic power he assumed the form of a young boy clad in snakes and sat in the Prince's lap, which very much impressed the prince, who became his disciple. The Prince began to send great offerings to Devadatta.
When told about the offerings that Devadatta was receiving, the Buddha remarked that all these gains were only going towards his destruction, just as a plantain or a bamboo is destroyed by its fruit.
Shortly thereafter, Devadatta further suggested that Buddha retire and take over the running of the Sangha, which Buddha retorted.
Seeing the danger in this, Devadatta repeatedly attempted to kill Buddha. He then tried to kill the Buddha himself by throwing a rock at him from on high, while the Buddha was walking on the slopes of a mountain. As this also failed, he decided to have the elephant Nalagiri intoxicated and released the rampaging elephant on the Buddha while he was on alms round. However, Nalagiri was overwhelmed by the divine power and authority of the Buddha. The power of the Buddha's loving-kindness overcame the elephant.
Devadatta regrets his actions and goes to apologise to Buddha, but the ground breaks near the lotus pond at the entrance to Jetavana and he is engulfed in fire that erupts from hell.
Chanting, "With all my bones, with all my life, I take refuge in the Supreme One, the God of Gods, the One who regulates people, the One who sees everything in all directions, the One who possesses 100 blessed aspects, that Buddha for as long as I live ", and he then fell into Avici (Infinite hell: Ref) with 500 family attendants who followed him.
Devadatta took refuge in Buddha by uttering the aforementioned verses before his death, so that after allowed escaping from the hell, he became a Pratyeka Buddha (one who has awakened alone; a saint who is quiet and solitary and does not preach for others) named Atthissara.
From the beginning, Buddha dared to allow Devadatta to be ordained, knowing that if he was ordained under him, he would eventually escape suffering, although he would temporarily fall into hell.
This anecdote about Buddha and Devadatta may be teaching us that accept even the unfavourable. You will learn nothing if you devalue what is inconvenient for you.

Happy Lhabab Düchen!
Today the Buddhists following the Tibetan tradition celebrate Lhabab Düchen Lhabab Düchen is one of the four Buddhist festivals commemorating four events in the life of the Buddha (the other three are: Losar Festival, Saga Dawa Festival, Chokor Duchen Festival), in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, that I follow. Lhabab Düchen occurs on the 22nd day of the ninth lunar month…

Đức Phật Cảm Thắng Voi Nalagiri, do nhờ Tâm Từ 🙏

Megaten Furbait compilation
A list of myth characters that were depicted as animals or animals with anthropomorphic features in the Megami Tensei series that have some level of appeal to furries.
Birds, reptiles and other species included.
Tumblr media
Now let’s start!
Garuda
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kaneko designed very, very few humanoid birds (even less featuring actual beaks) so Garuda is a big win to me. I love his playful pose from the first artwork combined with the big thigh exposition.
Anzu
Tumblr media
The curly beard and the shining brown skin really give him an extra attractiveness.
Kabuso
Tumblr media
I fell in love with this little fellow at first sight. The way he just looks down and has a “tch!” expression like he’s mocking you.
Anubis
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don’t pay much attention to Anubis since he’s depicted in essentially the same way in a lot of other media. His slender and sophisticated figure is still mesmerizing to stare regardless.
Quetzalcoatl
Tumblr media
I tend to prefer his human form but Quetz’s dragon form isn’t half-bad. His pissed face like he’s mad at you for eating the last piece of ham from the fridge.
Baphomet
Tumblr media
This goat has his horn on fire and has something sticking out of his crotch! He’s up to no good! Now that I think about it, the sword and the shield must symbolize his hermaphroditism.
Behemoth
Tumblr media
He looks at you the same way a pregnant mother would do to her lover.
Gagyson
Tumblr media
I’m not fond of demons with a lot of random features all over them. I forgive Gagyson because he’s bird-like and is cackling maniacally.
Neko Shogun
Tumblr media
Is he a demon or a toy? SO FRIGGIN’ CUTE! I LOVE YOU, DAMNIT!
Hanuman
Tumblr media
A dignified old man doing yoga. Check out the little golden monkey in his armor.
Heqet
Tumblr media
This froggie looks so happy to see you! She’s like a character that came straight from Animal Crossing.
Dormath
Tumblr media
Not very furry-like but at least she’s worth more than Nekomata. She looks comfy to hug. Be careful or she’ll hit you with a Macca Beam though.
Ose
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There it is... the most insane furbait of the list. This fucker tricks you into thinking he’s covering himself but as soon as you look at him from behind you find out he’s been walking around with his ass completely bare. It’s like he’s tainting you to look at it. Don’t even get me started at his Hallel form.
Chironnupu
Tumblr media
BABY YOU’RE SO CUTE!!! His tongue imitating perfectly the way a dog pants cheerfully when its owner is close!!!
Hecate
Tumblr media
A personal favorite. As soon as you summon her, she gets ready to push you onto the bed and peg your ass.
Shesha
Tumblr media
Shesha’s battles aren’t something exciting to remember about but I truly do like his enormous snake body. Too bad you couldn’t summon him in this state.
Fomorian
Tumblr media
If you are into hunks, Fomorian is just your dude. Remind him not to skip leg day though.
Amon
Tumblr media
This guy definitely fucks. Beware of his ridiculously long arms.
Ganesha
Tumblr media
I wanna touch his fat nipples and his bellybutton.
Basilisk
Tumblr media
Such a jolly little creature! It’s like a Pokémon!
Jambavan
Tumblr media
He seems way less scary once you realize he’s a bear.
Gryphon
Tumblr media
I wanna pull his big tail and see him screaming agonishingly. Apparently his meat is quite tasty.
Azumi
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Azumi might be JUST YOUR THING if you liked The Shape of Water. I wonder if her mouth is too rough to kiss.
Pazuzu
Tumblr media
There’s something that awakens in me when I stare at his happy trail.
Kuda, Inugami and Makami
Tumblr media
L     O    N    G
O
N
G
BOIS
Wu Kong
Tumblr media
I like his personality in the games a lot. A troublesome kid that speaks brashly.
Girimehkala
Tumblr media
I wanna touch his fat nipples and bel-oh wait, I already said this to Ganesha.
Cait Sith
Tumblr media
Look at his stupidass huge boots. I love this guy.
Nalagiri
Tumblr media
I’m not enthusiastic about elephants in general but Kaneko sure draws them in a way that makes me captivated. I like how this one feels gritty and muscular contrasting the chubby ones.
Suparna
Tumblr media
The pre-evolution of Garuda. Very majestic. I love the extension thingies from his crown.
Mushussu
Tumblr media
The little snark with his tongue while looking at the viewer. It’s the little details that count.
Mezuki
Tumblr media
I hate horses. I truly truly hate horses. I’m fond of this one for some reason however. Maybe it’s the fanged teeth? Or the cute braids?
Tao Tie
Tumblr media
You don’t wanna get on this fluffy fella’s bad side.
Kobold
Tumblr media
I like how this Kobold has quite some feminine figure. Small hips and big boobs.
Illuyanka
Tumblr media
A body of water shaped into a masked dragon. Kaneko really nailed on the execution of this one.
Orias
Tumblr media
I truly don’t care about Orias but his old artwork is funny. He’s tied to his horse as if both were a present.
Hachidaiou
Tumblr media
A rare one! And it’s a turtle! Does his shell only cover his back?
Seth
Tumblr media
Despite his major villain profile in the lore, his personality in the negotiations sums up as “big moe beast that loves lettuce”.
Mithra
Tumblr media
"Bro” “What is it, bro” “I tied myself all over you bro” “B-bro...”
Chi You
Tumblr media
I know it’s just his spear but the shadow makes it seems he’s wearing high heels.
Tangata Manu
Tumblr media
Tangata Manu is so cartoonishly weird to the point it’s adorable. Look how shitty his wings are. Poor guy.
Senri
Tumblr media
Furry milfs stretching? Furry milfs stretching, anyone?
Makara
Tumblr media
Makara in Dx2 is friggin adorable. I often forget it’s supposed to be from the Dragon race because of its little Bambi head.
Heavenly Generals
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kaneko the absolute madman designed the twelve chinese zodiac animals as boss enemies. THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME HAIRSTYLE.
Kikimora
Tumblr media
I love chickens but she doesn’t resemble one enough to be endearing on this aspect to me. I like the ‘creepy creature in domestic clothes’ image though. She even helps you with housework if she feels you’re hard-working enough!
Vasuki
Tumblr media
This one knows he’s a bastard and is fully delighted with it.
Hresvelgr
Tumblr media
His cute expression sure makes bird lovers like myself fall to our knees.
Cerberus
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Everyone’s favorite doggie! Regardless of how generic Cerberus ends up becoming in later games, his role as Nakajima’s loyal partner or our lovely Pascal the dog makes me quite fond of him.
Kamapua’a
Tumblr media
A pig with a cape! A PIG WITH A CAPE!
Fafnir
Tumblr media
I keep thinking of that mission in Strange Journey where you had to casually ask Fafnir for a piece of his body. Since he’s all made of metal, I guess letting someone else borrow your leg wouldn’t hurt you.
Samael
Tumblr media
I never got to properly use one yet in the games but I'm super fond of his design. The color palette is one of my favorites.
Yatagarasu
Tumblr media
no talk with me im angy

Where, at daybreak, the breeze from the Shipra River, carrying abroad the sweet, clear, impassioned cries of the geese, fragrant from contact with the scent of full-blown lotuses and pleasing to the body, carries off the lassitude of the women after their love-play, like a lover making entreaties for further enjoyment. And having see by the tens of millions the strings of pearls with shining gems as their central stones, conches, pearl-shells, emeralds as green as fresh grass with radiating brilliance and pieces of coral displayed in the market there, the oceans appear to contain nothing but water; And where the knowledgeable populace regale visiting relatives thus: ‘Here the king of the Vatsa brought the precious daughter of Pradyota. Here was the golden grove of tala-trees of that same monarch. Here, they say, roamed Nalagiri (the elephant), having pulled out his tie-post in fury.’ Your bulk increased by the incense that is used for perfuming the hair that issues from the lattices, and honoured with gifts of dance by the domestic peacocks out of their love for their friend, lay aside the weariness of the travel while admiring the splendour of its palaces which are scented with flowers and marked by the hennaed feet of the lovely women.

Rajgir (Rajgaha) : The place where Buddha subdued Nalagiri, the charging elephant
Tumblr media
Rajgir is one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites. This is the place where Buddha subdued Nalagiri, the charging elephant, which is counted as one of the major miracles of Buddha.
Rajgir is situated in the Indian state of Bihar around 70 km from Bodhgaya and around 100 km from the state capital Patna. The ancient name of Rajgir was Rajgaha which literally means the abode of kings. During Buddha’s lifetime, the kingdom of Magadha was ruled by the King Bimbisar who was succeeded by King Ajatasatru and both were prominent followers of Buddha.
When Siddhartha left Kapilvastu in search of enlightenment, he passed Rajgaha on his way to Uruvela. King Bimbisar of Rajgaha was very impressed with Siddhartha and offered to share the kingdom with him, which he declined but promised to visit him once he attains his goal of enlightenment.
After Buddha attained enlightenment in Uruvela, he left for Sarnath where he preached the five ascetics. He returned to Rajgaha with his disciples - the one thousand Arahants – and they were warmly welcomed by King Bimbisar. Bimbisar donated the bamboo groove (Veluvana) to the Sangha and Buddha was very fond of Veluvana where he used to live during his stays in Rajgaha. He spent several months in Rajgaha meditating and preaching at different places.
Today Rajgir is a major pilgrimage site in India which attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists from all around the world.

Karma is never destroyed
Karma is never destroyed”. He meant that Karma is never destroyed, it produces the effects unerringly, and a doer has to undergo the good or bad effects of Karma inevitably. He gave his own example of getting abused by a person named Chincha, a big piece of stone being thrown by Devadatta, Nalagiri elephant’s madness unto him, piercing of a stone in his…

Buddha’s Nalagiri elephant sculpture at Amaravathi archeological museum reminds the Gubbio Brother Wolf of Saint Francis of Assisi. Just read on the interesting message that both the legends of Nalagiri and Gubbio’s wolf tell the modern humanity. In this month of Eco-friendship, when Saint Francis of Assisi the patron of animals and ecology is commemorated (4 October), it is interesting to think of the message that his Brother Wolf of Gubbio and the ancient sculpture depicting Buddha’s great kindness that tamed the furious elephant Nalagiri.
