SPA DAY

Summary: a good day in court leads to a good night.

Author’s Note: In honour of his return I have written this lil blurb. It’s not edited and barely good but it gives me happy butterflies

It was another one of those “drink the eel” nights for the trio. High off a big win that day, they’d bar hopped from the courthouse back to Karen’s place. They stumbled in, Matt and Foggy Hanging off each other, loudly slurring out some version of a sea shanty. The door slams closed, and Karen is stumbling to the lightswitch, laughing, she kicks off her shoes and all but dives into the couch.

The boys settle down, and Foggy heads to raid the kitchen, before a dissatisfied groan fills the air.

“God Karen, I love ya but this has to be the worst Guac I’ve ever tried! Matty here” He hands the bowl off, And Karen pulls herself away from the comfort of the cushions.

“It’s not guac,” She laughed, making her way over and taking the bowl from Matt. “It’s a facemask I made. I was going to do a spa day before you two fools dragged me along after court.

“Spa Day?”

“Yes. Rom coms, face masks, nail painting.. Icecream”

“Sounds like a dream. I’m in” foggy announces, yanking the bowl back, and searching for a spatula.

Karen stood, confused, and then a smile spread across her face, and she rushed the boys to the living room and gathered her things. Foggy is first, and she lightly applies the mask to his face, and lays him back, putting slices of cucumbers over his eyes.

Matt sits by on the other loveseat, leaning back, and then Karen is over him, and applying the same to him, setting him up the same before continuing with herself, and then sitting beside Matt.

“Want me to paint your nails?” Karen asks, pulling the man’s hand over to her lap, starting to file down his nails.

“Sure, a clear coat could be good.” Matt Hums, relaxing back, a smile spreading across his face. Karen nods, and grins a sly grin to herself as she looks at the options, and selects a lovely red instead. She acts innocently, enough, painting Matt’s nails as he enjoys the relaxation. The silence in the room is nice. But is soon interrupted, by snores from the adjacent couch.

“Ah, and Foggy's out for the count.” Matt laughed quietly, pulling a giggle from Karen, as she moved to Matt’s other hand.

“Karen, I’m pretty sure this isn't the clear polish.” Matt says with a smirk. “What have you done?”

“Nothinggggg” she says, holding back a laugh, rather horribly.

“Karen.”

“Matt.”

“... it’s Red isn't it?”

“Sure is”

Giggles fill the air again, as Matt lets out a dramatic sigh. It doesn't take much longer for sleep to start pulling on Matt’s eyelids, and he is only minorly aware of Karen wiping the avocado mess from his face before he’s gone.

The next day in office, Matt walked in, still sporting the red nails, almost perfectly matching his glasses.

(903): He brought me another shot of rum, ice and my underwear when I woke up.

(1-903): What a gentleman.

(903): I KNOW, right?!

(478): I don't know what to say to you.

(814): I don't know what I said to you. Start with that.

“That's probably not what you’re supposed to do when someone’s shot and recovering in the hospital,” Max says, “Why were you missing underwear?”

“Fresh underwear, Max,” Evelyn says, prodding at the bandage on her hip, “Bull wasn’t going to make me stay in grungy underwear I had gotten blood and mud on for thirty six hours. And that’s why he’s my person. He thinks of all the little details like that. I appreciate that very much.”

“How did he get rum into the medical ward?”

“Uh. Hello? He’s the Iron Bull?” Ellana rolls her eyes as Maxwell pushes her wheelchair past the nurse’s station, “Ignoring how he’s the Iron Bull? Stitches and Dalish work here. It’s not that hard. That fire extinguisher over there? That’s just a rum cask.”

“That’s definitely a safety hazard and a violation of some sort of health code.”

“Only if there’s a fire.”

“Ellana, please do not tempt fate into setting the Inquisition’s brand new and recently built medical ward on fire. Please.”

Ellana flips off the ceiling, “Fate favors the bold but I have no need for favors from fortune.”

“That sounds so deep,” Max says, staring down at the crown of Ellana’s hair, “Why are you so deep? It’s not even drugs. You aren’t on any. Wait. Where did he get the ice?”

“It’s a hospital, Max. Ice isn’t that hard to get.”

“He snuck in a shot of rum - “

“Bottle.”

“ - ice - “

“I don’t know why this is so hard for you, Max. I really don’t. You’re acting like he’s brought me the Philosopher’s stone or a chuck of raw lyrium.”

“ - and underwear without anyone noticing the very large man carrying a bottle of rum?”

“Max you would make an absolutely awful undercover agent, please don’t let anyone ever put you on any sort of clandestine assignment ever. If they try it send them to me, I would happily go in your place.”

“Does anyone I know actually understand the functions and rules of a hospital? Including the doctors? Anyone?”

“Chill, Max,” Ellana says, “And did you bring me the goods?”

“Yes, I brought you the goods,” Max says, “Cheese chips and peach gummies.”

“The lemon drops?”

“And the lemon drops, yeah.”

“Excellent.”

“Do you just have a series of people bringing you stuff from outside the hospital?”

“You all have your specialties and I wouldn’t trust you to bring me ice if you were the ice cream man, Max. That said, I love you very much. You are a good friend.”

“What did I say to your brother last night?” Dorian asks Ellana as soon as she picks up the phone.

Ellana turns around to where said brother is giving Cole a haircut.

“Don’t tell him I’m on the phone with you,” Dorian hisses. “This is a conversation that isn’t happening. What did I say when I was drunk from my bi-weekly Scholars meeting?”

“Is that what you guys call it? I thought it was you bi-weekly shit-talking fest,” Ellana says, moving from the living room to her room and closing the door. Bull glances up from the gun he’s cleaning. “Hey, no guns on the bedspread. We had an agreement.”

“The kitchen is taken,” Bull says, “And you’ve got your projects spread out in the living room.”

Ellana points at the door, “No guns on the bedspread. Move my stuff.”

Bull sighs, collecting the gun components and heading out.

Ellana waits for the door to close and for his footsteps to retreat.

“Alright, so. Did you call him? Or did you just…meet up with him? How did you know that you said something.”

“Well. Drunk me left a note for sober me to talk to your brother. I thought that maybe we had a new assignment, or perhaps he had a message for me. So I texted him and it was hinted at that maybe I said something I should maybe be worried about.”

“So I can’t just check his phone and find out?”

“No. That would be so much easier. I need you to get him to tell you what it is and then you tell me. Or help me find witnesses. Something so I don’t fly into it blind.”

“Dorian, I think you already did now you’re just trying to figure out a way to fly out of it without leaving any vulnerabilities. That’s going to be difficult, finding vulnerabilities is my brother’s third greatest skill after fish-tail braids and deadpan humor. No matter what I say he’s going to know that I’m asking something for you. You should just ask him straight out. He’s usually nicer to people about their drunken actions than most people think he would be.”

Ellana sits at the dresser and starts playing with a bottle of nail polish that Cole had bought her. It’s a soft mossy green with bits of glitter in it. It was a really sweet gesture of him and she can’t wait to use it.

“Not on my life am I going to risk that encounter,” Dorian replies. “I need to triangulate at what stage of drunk I was when this encounter happened, where it was, and if there’s anyone who can back this up.”

“Just ask him. Trust me, as his sister, I know that it’s going to be a lot softer and easier in the long run. Even the short run. If you drag it out by doing all that stuff you’ll only make it worse. He might not be so nice if he finds out that you were being weird about it. Then he’ll make you deserve it.”

“No, no. I can definitely fix this.”

“Rip it off like a band aide.”

“You aren’t supposed to rip band aides off.”

“It’s a human expression,” Ellana says. “Look. Do you want me to get him for you right now? I’ll let him know you’re feeling really apprehensive and to go easy on you and everything.”

“No. I’m going to call Herah.”

“What’s she going to do?”

“Teach me dignity and grace in defeat, obviously.”

“You’re being ridiculous. Fine. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

When it comes to summer skin (and pool party attire!), less is certainly more.

Instead of covering it all up, aim for a natural glow. Enhance your best features and subtly disguise your problem areas. To do this, all you need are a few essentials.

Invest in a summer perfume, a new lip gloss and fun convo-starting sparking earring. You can put away (for now) your heavy eye shadows, crimson nail polishes and your contouring creams in favor of a light translucent powder, a skin perfecting anti-aging mist (that can go on-the-go) and of course a luminizing SPF. These are the products you need for the warm weather season ahead.

Beauty On Call 💅🏼

Beauty On Call. As a blogger, I always want to look clean and presentable when going to events, meeting with a client and endorsing a new product. As such, part of the look I'm trying to achieve is "put together". And for me, nail care can leave a huge impact to whoever you're talking to. A well-groomed mani pedi can not only help you look the part, it can also boost your confidence. And I'm so happy to share with you guys this newfound treasure of a salon and clinic I discovered in Manila that gives quality output at a very affordable price!

Situated in Sampaloc (you can actually search them on Waze and Google Maps!), Beauty On Call is you're new go to salon for your nailcare needs! Not only that, they also have skincare treatments and do cosmetic surgery! Doctor Owen who is a certified licensed cosmetic sugeon, is the owner of the clinic. You can have consultations with her here, but for the actual surgery procedures, she has separate clinics in hospitals.

For my session at Beauty On Call I opted to have the full service for the hands and feet. I had the Foot Spa Treatment, which includes a foot spa soak in their massage chair, getting exfoliated, a sugar scrub, a peppermint mask, hot towel steam, basic mani pedi and a foot massage (wow the whole enchilada!) for only Php 498!!! Isn't that CRAAAZY?? And then I opted to upgrade to an Orly Gel Mani Pedi which only costs Php 898 pesos for BOTH hands and feet!! Like are you guys having hearts on your eyes now like the emoji? Wahaha (If you want to have an Orly Mani only, you can have it for Php 478 or an Orly Pedi only, you can have it for Php 518) LOOOVE! For those who are unaware of the "usual" prices of Orly Gel Mani Pedis in malls, they can go up to a whopping Php 1500+ just for the hands alone!

You might be thinking, "meh baka iba naman kasi quality nung nail polish nila or yung service ng paggawa..." GIIIIRL no! The attendants who did my nail treatments were very careful with my nails and did a beautiful job in shaping them. I just hate it when in other salons some don't listen to what I say na "wag ipudpud" the clippers/tools masyado in grooming my nails or when they accidentally cut my skin. Ate Lilac who did my nails was perfect in executing her art, perfectly trimmed, polished and bedazzled ang nails ko! Also, I wanna share the fact na she triple-coated my Orly gel polish! Hindi tinipid mga besh. In some salons kasi they only do 2 or sometimes 1 pa nga.

FOOT SPA SOAK AND BUBBLE MASSAGE

FEET EXFOLIATION Not your regular exfoliation session, they sprayed a special callous remover to soften the skin and make it easier to remove those dead skin cells. Can you guys tell I'm trying my very best not to laugh in these photos? haha I'm very ticklish in my feet!

SUGAR FOOT SCRUB Doc tells me that her treatments were created with her thinking as a doctor (beneficial to the body and no harmful chemicals) and as a customer (soothing and relaxing and must be worth the price you pay!)

PEPPERMINT MASK

CLING WRAP & HOT TOWEL STEAM to relax the muscles. The cling wrap is placed before the towel so as to not it be too hot on your skin.

FOOT MASSAGE What foot spa is complete without a foot massage?? Very relaxing indeed!

PS Don't mind the "sandy" particles in the foot tub, those are the remnants of the Peppermint Mask washed off from the feet.

Now the Orly Gel Mani Pedi! I chose a translucent pearl white Orly Gel polish for my nails.

You can even have nail art added for an additional Php 50! I choses to have an accent index finger, with silver dipping powder added to make it sparkly. And we topped it off with a pink rhinestone and pearl bead. Don't fret that it'll just fall off right after, because they use a special adhesive polish! And just look at Ate Lilac's nails! She tells me that her nails have undergone intense paglalaba and washing the dishes, and they are STILL this perf! Wow!

TADAAAA!

Now the same process for my feet hehe

They also have a regular foot spa area, no bubbly massage here but you can still have a good soak, scrub, mask and massage here!

AND I'M DONE! My hands and feet are sooo happy I pampered them at Beauty On Call!

Ohh and lemme just show you guys doc's clinic for her skincare and cosmetic surgery consultations. Super light, camera, action ready here because she takes before and after photos of her clients in this office!
