If Next Class had a Season 5/6 (written by me*)

Esme Song-Therapy and diagnoses for her issues obviously. But it needs to be a different journey than we've seen in the past. There are always new ways to treat mental health and it is a continual conversation. But I do think she needs to apologize to Frankie. Also a new hairstyle, please.

Baaz Nahir-Since the actor has beefed up I think his arc will be joining a sport(swimming because iykyk) and becoming more popular and kinda wanting to be more than a nerd. He becomes friends with Saad and some other less friendly people too through the swim team. Has a cute small relationship thing with Megan. Has to learn to balance his new friends with his old ones.

Vijay Maraj-He's involved in student council again. Queer Straight Alliance president for sure. We can discover more about his home situation. My idea is that his dad left when he came out and started a whole new family. Also, he needs a love interest because he needs an actual good relationship. All around just make him a more three-dimensional character. I think his look could evolve as well. We know he's into social media but that has been explored a lot in the past.

Hunter Hollingsworth-Hunter needs to work in his bigotry and while he does he's shunned by the school. This means he is NOT in all-inclusive since well he's not very inclusive. I imagine he gets voted out. That's his whole storyline and he might beg for Yael back but they won't have him. And I want to have him and Frankie bonding and her trying to help him.

Frankie Hollingsworth-So I want her to actually have a healthy polyamorous relationship! Degrassi needs to represent a healthy poly relationship. Cause so far they haven't. I'm thinking with two new juniors and either all three get into it first and two of them and then a third is added. I don't really know all I know is that I think it would be good for her character. Also pan storyline and her going to a therapist to talk about her past and maybe how her father actually affected her. This is probably where her trust issues stem from. And her acknowledging her privilege.

Lola Pacini-Regular up and downs in her relationship with Saad. She wants him to be more involved. Maybe they break up? She goes to talk to Yael about this stuff. But Miles definitely comes back in the graduation episode and they have a talk and he tells her what he would have done if she told him she was pregnant. And just them staying in touch. Also, I'd want to see her relationship with her dad and a storyline with that. I love Lola and she's an interesting character but I don't know what else to do with her.

Yael Baron-Expanding on the nonbinary stuff. They meet others who aren't binary and learn more about all the different types of pronouns. Becoming more confident and realizing they don't need Hunter. Issues with the binder and learning you can't wear it all the time and talks about top surgery. And expanding on their style. Also I want to know why they wore the wig before.

Saad Al'Maliki-Lola encourages Saad to put himself out there more and make friends in Degrassi since it really isn't that bad of a place. So he joins the swim team and starts to make friends with Baaz. Also more of his photography. His relationships struggles with Lola.

Shay Powers-Shay for president? And then she will struggle under the weight of school, sports, applying for colleges, and a relationship. I would push her as the main girl in this new era. She had a breakdown most likely and Tiny comes back to help her through it. To Shay it just seems everything is happened at once.

Rasha Zuabi-Rasha will direct and star in the school play. Part of her storyline will deal with her struggle in her long-distance relationship with Zoe but I think they will ultimately stay together. Degrassi needs a college relationship that doesn't break up at all. She will also struggle with not having many friends at the beginning of the season and not fitting in with the trio of senior girls.

Abra Al'Maliki-I'm thinking a little crush on Baaz especially because her brother is friends with him. I don't think he would like her back just because she's Saad's sister and not like his new image but it wouldn't be creepy or weird. Also, we just see her with a friend around being teenage girls giggling k'now. Her maturing and wearing makeup and stuff.

New Characters

Imani Shaw-Abra's best friend, she becomes insecure about her body throughout the season. Social media should play a role in her insecurity. We just see her being a teenage girl with Abra in the background. Junior as well like Abra who I always think is way younger. African American.

Thạch Ngoc Erin -One of Frankie's new partners who is on the Bright Sparks team. Her shown being an actual good autistic representation. Maybe kind of a mysterious bad-girl image because Degrassi hasn't had that in a while. Junior and Vietnamese. Her parents arrived as refugees after the Vietnam War.

Koda Migizi-A new friend Yael meets in support group. Auditions for play later on. Has to contend with being indigenous and genderfluid. Freshman. First Nation of Ojibwe but I am not well versed in the indigenous people of Canada so tell me if this isn't accurate.

Adrian Qadeeh-Frankie's other new partner and on the Bright Sparks team. He's Jewish and faces casual antisemitism. Maybe Palestinian heritage because that would be relevant to what's happening today. Junior.

Josh Moore-A junior boy on the swim team. Basically, a typical jock who's stuck up, sexist, a bit dumb, and a bit aggressive. Degrassi needs one of those again just to cause issues. Maybe he vapes too cause that's something that goes on with teens now. This isn't an issue that has to be resolved but to just make him more relatable. White if that isn't obvious. He's like Degrassi's version of Spider from Heartbreak High.

Esther Chassé-A sophomore aro spec ace spec person Vijay meets in GSA. Has OCD but that isn't revealed until later and she struggles with it. Starts up the Degrassi radio show again with Jesus. The radio show would be in the background during other storylines.

Megan Chuang-A sophomore girl introduced in season 6 who has a crush on the newly popular Baaz. Her parents have been divorced since she was small. Others may think it's weird but it's all she's ever known. Involved in student council as like a junior representative or something. Her mother is Chinese and her dad is not. Has step siblings.

Jesus Botello-Sophomore is the other half of the Degrassi talk show. He would be in classes with little quips. Uses crutches as a mobility aid and sometimes a wheelchair. Maybe money problems because of whatever causes this disability. How his family's money issues seperate him from others who are more carefree with their money. Latino.

Guglielmo Iggy Brigham-Vijay's boy toy who doesn't actually go to Degrassi. The veiwer won't find out his name and he's just called Iggy throughout. He is not out to his family.

20. Frankie Hollingsworth. Almost had her second to last but. No. Klu Klux Fran?? The ZOO?? I can't even talk about her she's just so damn annoying and racist and omg. And she was being pushed as the new Main Girl which made everything all the more offensive and unbearable

19. Esme Song. Sorry but I do not think she had a single redeeming trait. She had nothing she stood for, no actual character beyond being an antagonist to every single other person on the show. Like she thinks Shay is stupid for being embarrassed about getting her period on her boyfriend's pants, and yet she calls Yael disgusting for having armpit hair?? So what's the truth? And people are like "well she's mentally ill" to excuse all she does. Well Maya is mentally ill and Esme makes fun of her too. So who's side are we on? Like I would've liked to see her get help and develop but we didn't get that so.

18. Hunter Hollingsworth. Terrorist. Not even interesting enough to be an actual school shooter. Just a waste of a character. Sexist, violent, had a plot about wanting to play video games at school. I'm so bored. Only not at the bottom bc I feel like he wasn't in my face as much

17 & 16. Baaz Nahir & Vijay Maraj. Thing 1 and Thing 2 to the would be school shooter. Clowns. They were a terrible group and I cringed any time they had a plot together. Annoying together, useless on their own. Hard pass

15. Yael Baron. The final member of the above group. Was mostly boring and annoying and especially dumb for being romantically interested in Hunter. Only gets bonus points for their coming out as nonbinary plot. After their makeover I was literally crying

14. Jonah Haak. Mostly disliked him for being in a relationship with Frankie. Like I'm sure they were only a year or two apart but he felt so much older than her. It was gross. And mostly he's just really blah. The attempt at a straight edge character at that point was. Hilarious. at least.

13. Winston Chu. Seemed harmless at first but idk all the boys were shifted high into clown mode when this show hit netflix. The incident with the geisha and Japanese soldier costumes? Defending Zoe against Esme? Then later telling Goldi maybe she should take her hijab off to cause less of a fuss? Bruh.

12. Saad Al'Maliki. Honestly I felt like he was the one with the most braincells most of the time. Probably pissed me off the least. But he was also in the least amount of episodes and didn't make much of an impression on me. Was mostly just boring. But I'll take boring over everything that came before

11. Lola Pacini. Degrassi has a knack for introducing the worst and most obnoxious characters and then eventually making you love them. Lola was not quite that. I hated her for the longest time but it decreased a bit near the end. I got emotional when she had her abortion. And when she gave Yael their makeover. And when she reached out to Saad and convinced him not to leave. I feel like I could've grown to like her more if the show went on, but again... Oh also I hate her and Miles together sorry

10. Grace Cardinal. Ugh Grace is confusing to me. I wasn't the biggest fan of her story with Zoe. I mean sure you're allowed to hook up with someone and then realize "oh that's not for me" but it was handled so awkwardly. Like she slept with Zoe just to be like "damn i hate when everyone thinks i'm a lesbian :/" like why. Idk she was fine but I'm not over the moon about her

9. Goldi Nahir. Ugh okay I feel like they didn't know what to do with her. Like she had the plotline about if she should take off her hijab or not. And she had to teach the poor whities about racism. That was about it? She was adorable and sweet and a bright spot in the show but ugh she deserved better than what she was surrounded with lol

8. Shay Powers. Again, it's not her fault she's stuck in a show written by 70 year old white people. But the black girl is completely oblivious to the racism of her friend? She has to ask her dad if a racist thing is really racist? She's never experienced racism? Ok Degrassi. They treat all their black girls like shit and I feel like I just stan them out of spite bc of that lol. But she's cool and a nice person and she's into sports so she's at least doing stuff

7. Rasha Zuabi. Another generally nice and cool character that I have positive feelings for. Also she was gay so yay. Loved her story with Zoe. I think there was just one moment where I was like "wtf are you doing" but compared to everyone else it's not a big deal

6. Zig Novak. I have to admit that all my enjoyment of his character comes from before Next Class. He was such a sweetie and then he left and came back acting dumb as hell. That was not my boy in Next Class. But ahhh he's still my boy sorry I love him <3

5. Deon "Tiny" Bell. Basically the same as Zig above. But I feel like he maybe had a few less moments of being an asshole? Also his promposal for Shay was cute <3 Wait didn't he also date Lola? Wasn't a fan of that either.

4. Zoe Rivas. She was the one dressed up as a geisha lol (: Oh boy Next Class was something else. Umm it was nice to see her process of accepting herself as a lesbian. I feel like it took forever tho. Which is understandable irl but this is a tv show lol. I didn't enjoy her sucking Zig off in the woods. Not fun. But her relationship with Rasha was one of my fave things about NC

3. Tristan Milligan. The amount of hate Tristan gets is faaaar too much. He's one of my favorites of the whole show honestly. I think he's funny and dramatic and a great addition to the show. But he gets knocked down bc I can't remember anything he did in Next Class other than BEING IN A FUCKING COMA FOR A WHOLE SEASON. He's already Owen's brother, he's suffered enough. But I love his relationship with Miles. And him helping Zoe accept herself

2. Miles Hollingsworth. Yes another character I wasn't fond of at first. Hated his relationship with Zoe and thought he was just boring. Truthfully I think I only became interested when he started dating Tristan lol. Plus omg with his family?? It's a miracle he got out at all. He went through so much bullshit and he was especially going through it in Next Class. He was kind of a hot mess but also I just care a lot about him. He deserves the world <3

1. Maya Matlin. Is Maya really my fave?? I guess so! Yet another character I wasn't fond of at first. Which is insane bc we just got to the part in our rewatch where she first shows up and I'm like !!! baby girl!! So precious!!! And I wanted to cry thinking of what she's about to go through. I feel like her character is treated with some of the most respect and care. Her motivations and mental health decline all make sense storywise. I just care a lot about her and got super emotional watching everything in her story, especially the later parts in NC

Wow this is a lot!! But I hope you enjoyed my ranking and explanations lol. Also like. Everyone was racist. Everyone was mentally ill. That was the whole show. It was a hot mess and truth be told I am not a fan. Even the characters I love, they were acting weird here. Like I said about Zig and Tiny and their character regression. And I think it was the same for like Tristan and Zoe and plenty of others too. Everyone was off, idk how to explain it. But that's my ranking for the hot mess that was Next Class!!

Feminist Talk

I can’t believe there are still women out there who think there isn’t a gender bias, that there’s no sexism out there, and that there’s no need for feminism.

So far, there are at least three types of people who think feminism isn’t needed:

1) Sexist People: those who commit the sexism itself, who take advantage of it and want to continue doing it. Those who commit rape and think they should own women’s bodies.

2) Priviliged People: those who aren’t really affected by it, and because of it, they invalidate other people’s experiences.

3) Uneducated Non-Deniers: those who thing we shouldn’t center it on gender, and it should just be centered on who deserves’s being there. Those who think there isn’t a need for more female directors, that if they aren’t being given opportunities, it’s because they aren’t as good.

And then there are those who believe in the feminist causes, but are afraid of being called feminist. The ones that are confused due to the extremist feminists, the ones that think men shouldn’t be equal to women (the term for that in Spanish would be hembrismo -sadly, there isn’t a word for it in English- since they don’t believe in equality, and I don’t think that it’s real feminism).

So to anyone that it’s invalidating other people’s experiences, or that’s confused about why should they care:

I think the passion for this subject comes after a person experiences patriarchal or sexist situations, maybe in terrible ways, maybe in more subtle scenes, and discovers that it shouldn’t be normal or natural, and that they weren’t heard.

And maybe you are lucky, or you can just ignore it, or you are really privileged and never lived through that.

Maybe you aren’t saying that there isn’t a lack of equality, or that women’s are treated equally to men. Maybe you aren’t saying that Feminist are liars in that aspect, or you aren’t denying people’s experiences, at least not mostly, even if the problem is that the reason they aren’t given chances it’s because of the gender bias, which is why it’s gender centered fight.

I think a thing I should mention, defending why there is a need for feminism and a gender centered discussion: feminicidios. Feminicides in English according to google. Though the closest I could find is this description “Gendercide is the systematic killing of members of a specific gender. The term is related to the general concepts of assault and murder against victims due to their gender”.

In Argentina, last year, there were at least 290 feminicidios (female murders) by 25 of November 2019. 290 Women that were killed by a lover, an ex lover or someone rejected by them. That is one every 29hs or so, If I’m doing the maths right. (And If no other death occurred after the date or publication, which is the last public information I could find about it).

At least 3529 women were killed during 2018 in 25 latin countries. That’s 9.6 women per day. In Italy there has been at least 15 Female-gender-centered-Murder by today’s available information (12th of February of 2020). And there is so much more information available out there, all a person has to do is do a small google research, and millions of statistics will pop up.

I never mentioned that I was an administrative assistant for over a year and a half in a domestic violence office, when I worked for a public organization. While I was there, I saw how women were treated, how scared they were, and how the media, the police and the justice system handled those cases. I saw how women got killed for being women all the time.

For making choices, for standing up and saying no, for trying to get away. The cases of men being killed by their partners were so low, when it happened that one girl killed her boyfriend out of jealousy in Argentina, it made national news and people still talk about it today (Nahir Galarza), because it generally doesn’t happen -so they wanted to use it as a point against feminism, but unlike femicidios that were so many the list never ended, the male version of that list was way shorter. There is a gender bias against women, which is why it ends up centering on gender. Why we need to center on gender talk.

While I was in my birth country, I lived in fear of being kidnapped, of being raped, mugged or killed. I was scared of sexual harassment, of being catcalled, of being followed, drugged, groped, or any other situation. I was afraid constantly. I was paranoid, and I didn’t know ho much it affected my everyday life till I moved to Denmark, saw how safe it was, and a weight I hadn’t known how heavy it was, dropped from my shoulders. I’m not gonna say rapes and sexual harassment doesn’t happen here, it definitely does, I still need to be careful, but now I can walk down the street at night and feel safer. I can go out and hope reasonably I’ll get back home.

So when I say I get sad thinking about this, It’s because I know how scary it is, how victims aren’t listened, how numbers grow every year, and there is a gender disparity. I’m quoting the most brutal thing: being murdered because of their gender. But it happens in so many other ways, there isn’t just one way in which gender bias and discrimination (sexism) affects women’s.

In Argentina it’s harder to find a job if you are a woman because you can get pregnant, or because they don’t think you are smart enough. And Men constantly deny women’s experiences. When I was sexually harassed, my superiors didn’t think it was real harassment, they didn’t agree with my views and thought that I was just making a scene, yet I was lucky that my boss still defended me, when not everyone was. I had a colleague who had to quit after reporting a boss for harassment. So I was extremely affected by patriarchy and sexism all my life.

You can’t define something by calling it by it’s negative, you can’t construct a concept and make it know and believable if you only call it by “not-this”. The absence of peace is not “not-peace”, it’s war (and this is a concept from 1984 -which I might be translating it wrong-) “In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it.” wrote G. Orwell.

Feminism is needed, for as long as women have to prove their worth constantly in way men’s aren’t asked to do. For as long that we can provide at least 8 names of women who should have been nominated for an award, where no woman was. For as long as women are told that their stories aren’t true, that there isn’t a need for them. For as long as there is a lack of representation. For as long as men are also being affected by patriarchy. For as long as equality isn’t real. We ask to be given the same chances and opportunities. We ask to be considered for stuff and not be told no because of our gender.

We want to be given opportunities despite our gender. Maternal and paternal leaves, equally shared responsibility for a kid, equal chances at a job, equal reparesentation in media for all genders of all sexual orientations. We want trans rights and lgtbqia+ rights. We want ovarian-owner’s right to choose what’s best for their bothers. And to stop xenophobia and transphobic and any other kind of gender/sexuality/nationalities related phobia.

We want equality for everyone. And if you believe that, then you are a feminist.

Romance Headcanons

NAME: Nahir Pephennas NICKNAME: White Specter, Guardian, Private Pephennas (post becoming a guardian---kinda see her as an enlisted Soldier more or less her title would be private upon return to the tower after becoming a guardian) or Corporal Pephennas (prior to becoming a Guardian) GENDER: Female ROMANTIC ORIENTATION: Asexual 

PREFERRED PET NAMES: Doesn’t have any favorites in particular, however---whatever her s/o wants to call her I’m sure Nahir doesn’t mind. FAVORITE CANON SHIP(S): Honestly Nahir’s canon ship (for my purposes outside of RP and stuff) is with Andal Brask. But aside from that Executor Hideo is like the next runner up. FAVORITE NON-CANON SHIP(S): Any OC or Canon character that want to ship with her automatically becomes my favorite non canon ship. OPINION ON TRUE LOVE: Nahir doesn’t have an opinion on true love. More or less she doesn’t have time to think about it, she is so mission focused that even if love is thrown at her head on she will dismiss it to the best of her effort.  OPINION ON LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT: Pretty much the same thing when the topic of true love is brought up. She doesn’t have the time to think about it---but I suppose if someone were to ask her about love at first sight she would say it doesn’t exist. Perhaps in fairy tales yes, but for her no. Lust maybe...but other from that no.  HOW ‘ROMANTIC’ ARE THEY?: Nahir surprisingly can be romantic when she wants or chooses to be. She does take the time to learn the little quirks or what her s/o likes more or less showing her affection in little ways. Such has making them a drink (coffee or whatever), telling them to take a break or telling them to be careful before they go on a mission. IDEAL PHYSICAL TRAITS: A soulful gaze. IDEAL PERSONALITY TRAITS: Patience, understanding, and driven (think the most attractive thing Nahir would be attracted to is seeing that her s/o has some sort of goal or some drive that keeps them going. Kinda like goals for the future or something). UNATTRACTIVE PHYSICAL TRAITS:  She doesn’t have a preference. UNATTRACTIVE PERSONALITY TRAITS: Controlling, stagnant---pretty much no goal in life and pretty much ignorance will make one pretty unattractive in her eyes. IDEAL DATE: Walking around the city at night or the tower? Cute intimate picnic at the farm. Keep it simple. XD DO THEY HAVE A TYPE?: Strong spirited, independent and a total mystery (like someone she can’t out right read in personality--like honestly keeping her guessing and surprising her with your quirks is one thing to keep her interest). AVERAGE RELATIONSHIP LENGTH: I mean her last relationship with Andal Brask lasted a while till both of them ended up kicking the bucket on separate missions. But nowadays I say her relationship lengths are either cut short (like one night) or non existent. PREFERRED NON-SEXUAL INTIMACY: Training, morning jogs, going out to the bar to get drinks. COMMITMENT LEVEL:  Honestly, once you have her she’s in it for the long run if you’ve proven to her that this thing that they have will work out. Other from that she wouldn’t be in a relationship at all. I mean I’m not going to lie Nahir has her urges but they are not permanent. OPINION OF PUBLIC AFFECTION: She doesn’t mind it but she’ll easily become embarrassed and probably tell her s/o to restrain themselves. PAST RELATIONSHIPS?: Andal lolll Well I mean besides Andal, I guess during the events of D1 and D2 is a bit of a mystery. She doesn’t make her love life public so again not saying that she hasn’t been with a few people, be it a guy or girl or an EXO is completely in the dark. She has her times of weakness, but it doesn’t happen often so more or less it probably was at least a  one night thing with only one or two people on separate occasions.

Now in his country’s capital city of Lovats, Merik stalks the streets, fighting for his starving people and trying to prove that his sister, Vivia, is the one who ordered his death to take the throne for herself. The blast left Merik almost unrecognizable, and the people have started calling him by the name of a demigod who brings justice to the oppressed--The Fury. Meanwhile, Bloodwitch Aeduan has been ordered to find Iseult. But when he finally does she surprises him by making a deal, promising to return his stolen money in exchange for him tracking Safi. But finding Safi may be harder than Iseult thinks. Safi agreed to help the Empress of Marstok, but that was before their ship was also attacked and they escaped with their lives. Now they find themselves captured by Hell-Bards and marching through the land of pirates.

This is the book that made me want to read this series, solely because the cover looked cool. Then I found out it was book two and that I’d have to work my way to it.

It seems I am still not going to get the Safi/ Iseult relationship that I was promised back in book one. They’re friends, beyond just friends, their friendship is so strong that they’re Threadsisters. Do I get to see any of this or them just being together? At all? Nope. Honestly though, I’m not too mad about it only because I got some other stuff in this book that I really like and it distracted me from not getting what I wanted with them.

Though what is with skipping over things that should have been included in the actual story? I don’t know man, I feel like Merik almost being murdered is important enough to write about instead of skimming over it as an intro. This might be something this author is going to do a lot in the future, and I’m not a fan. And something similar happens right at the end. Someone just shows up with no explanation whatsoever to move things along for the next book.

Surprisingly, I’m okay with all the POVs that are in this one. Usually if there’s more than three I tend to get a bit overwhelmed and it makes the story too jumpy, but I didn’t get that feeling with this one. Unfortunately, out of all these POVs, Safi’s is the worst, and practically unneeded. Nothing major happens with her and her story doesn’t move along in any big way. I can say the same thing about Iseult’s, but I like the relationship that’s developing between her and Aeduan, so I was cool with it.

It’s probably terrible that I like this book more than the first one because it’s an excellent example of second book syndrome. But I do. I know it says so much about me as a reader. But this doesn’t have all the things I hated in Truthwitch like insta-love or having to struggle to learn about the world since, well, I already know about it now.

This series is going to be five or six books long and I honestly don’t know how I feel about that. I’m interested in the story and I want to know what happens, but I don’t know if that interest can hold me for four more books. They can’t all be like this, you know? I mean, I did like this, but the next book can’t have mostly nothing happening with the characters.

Degrassi Next Class 5 Power Ranking

So... another reaction to @karydegrassi and his videos (Link) I’ll do my own power ranking with a brief explanation of my priorities. Because most of my reactions to the characters are... the same, I value them differently.

S-Tier - The heaviest players next season.

Lola Pacini - Sits at the top like the queen she is. She’s taking Maya’s spot as ‘well meaning and good person bad things happen to’ Lola’s overall emotional weight makes her perfect to play in Maya’s ‘try to save everyone’ space. Yes, Lola is our new Emma.

Esme Song - If Lola’s taking over as our new Emma, Esme’s positioned to be our new Paige. The whole journey to be a better self thing that is Paige, Holly J, and Zoe is clearly what Esme’s mental health plot can do for the school ecology. And delving deep into mental health issues would be good overall.

Yael Baron - They get to fill Miles’s shoes, I feel a little odd putting an LGBT character in a top slot (in a good way, trust me) as it doesn’t normally happen. But between their connection to Lola and overall unexplored space of nb/gender politics plots going forward there’s a lot of room to grow. And Jamie killed it last season on emotional deliveries in a way we didn’t see NC2-3.

A-Tier - Strong Support workers with a lot of room.

Saad Al’Maliki - So I dropped Saad a tier from where he was on Kary’s list because, quite frankly, being a guy means you get less plots. Miles was anomalous on that front. And even when a guy (Drew, Eli, Craig, Sean) gets plots they generally get less focus and weight than girl plots. Saad is this high because Parham killed last season dead. Also it means Abra (if added to main cast) is more attached to the higher points.

Frankie Hollingsworth - So another big change from Kary, I put Frankie a lot higher because Frankie is entry level. On all the gender, race, class nonsense, Frankie is ‘that girl that you dream of being’... if you ignore how neurotic and problematic she is. So even if she isn’t given a lot, she’ll definitely get something just to keep her (and that lovely Hollingshouse set) in play.

Rasha Zuabi - I love Dalia, she seems great. Rasha seems great too, but she was so hampered by having mostly seniors as scenes that she’ll spend NC5 doing what Fiona did in S11b. She’s also limited to fish out of water and discrimination plots as overarching themes because she’s still with Zoe. Unless Ana is around for enough episodes to make a few magic scenes happen.

B-Tier - These are characters who are heavily limited by how the last 1-3 seasons used them.

Shay Powers - Shay’s problem is her plots don’t... connect. Unless Frankie and Lola are butting in with romantic advice, Shay generally does her thing solo. So if Shay leads a plot, the plot has basically no connections, but if Shay is supporting her girls Shay can meet new people. And all the stuff I said about Rasha dealing with Zoe, only without Rasha’s extrovert friendly take charge of school mindset.

Hunter Hollingsworth - I cut Hunter a lot of slack? Cause he seems like if he had a better sense of self and a better sense of what advice to take he wouldn’t be the goddamn mess he is in NC3-4. But man has the show put him in a hard spot to use. He has all of Shay’s loner driven qualities without Shay’s useful circle of friends. His only saving grace, is, well... wait for it.

C-Tier - Mr. Simpson, the school sign, The Cantina.

D-Tier - Perino, the mascot costume, The Dot.

E-Tier - Goofus 1 and Goofus 2. Neither is Gallant, neither is a fully formed character, neither makes me wish to ever see them on screen and this makes me sad cause the actors are probably okay guys.

Baaz Nahir - He only got to be first cause I was too lazy to swap them around. When a character makes me miss Derek you know things are bad.

Vijay Maraj - He too makes me miss Derek.
