On October 7, militants from Gaza fired thousands of rockets at Israeli towns before scaling the strongly defended border fence with Israel and entering an important amount of Israeli land. According to Israeli police, there, Hamas gunmen killed around 1,400 people, including troops and civilians, and kidnapped 199 people.

Israel launched "Operation Swords of Iron" in response to the attack, declaring war and dropping 6,000 bombs on the heavily populated area between October 7 and 12. This is equal to the number of airstrikes carried out on Gaza during the 50-day 2014 conflict. Israel's military instructed the 1.1 million residents of northern Gaza on Friday to leave their homes right away, possibly in the event of a ground attack.

President Joe Biden came in Israel on Wednesday for one of the most challenging diplomatic missions of his term as president. Biden publicly offered Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu his support in his first public comments on the hospital bombing, using language that referred to Palestinians as "others." The situation and Biden's impromptu words made clear the difficult diplomatic balancing act he must perform.

Before Biden left for Israel, according to one US official, the government had not yet drawn a conclusion about the source of the hospital bombing, and Biden had instructed his national security team to continue evaluating incoming information.

He winked at her before collapsing down in the wheelchair. “Nothing can keep me down—you should know that by now.”

Megan snorted. “At least we know the bump didn’t do anything to your ego.”

“Of course not,” Emma agreed.

Kristi poked her head out of one of the examining rooms. “Dr. Nadeen, I need you.”

He nodded before turning to Megan. “Why don’t you show Emma to one of the family waiting rooms?”

“Sure,” Megan replied.

Emma reached up to hug him. “Thanks for taking care of Aidan.”

“It was my pleasure.” He gave them a final wave before disappearing into the waiting patient’s room. But after talking to Aidan, he definitely had a little more determined bounce in his step.

La sécurité en prend pour son grade, elle qui avait relâché l’homme croyant que son engin était inoffensif. Italien d’origine pakistanaise et âgé de 43 ans, Nadeen Muhammad a été condamné le 23 aout 2017 par un tribunal de Manchester à 18 ans de prison ferme pour détention d’explosifs avec intention d’attenter à la vie d’autrui. Le 30 janvier dernier, alors qu’il tentait d’embarquer sur un vol de la compagnie aérienne low cost Ryanair entre Manchester et Bergame, le passage de son bagage à main aux rayons X avait révélé la présence d’une bombe artisanale, apparemment faite d’un tube de marqueur, d’adhésifs, de piles et de fil de fer. Immédiatement arrêté par la sécurité de l’aéroport, qui pensait que l’assemblage était inoffensif, il avait été interrogé par les services anti-terroristes ; l’homme avait été relâché, et avait pris un autre vol vers Bergame cinq jours plus tard. Mais une analyse ultérieure de la bombe artisanale avait révélé qu’elle contenait également de la nitroglycérine et de la nitrocellulose, et était donc « potentiellement viable ». Ce qui avait entrainé une perquisition du domicile de M. Muhammad près de Milan, puis amené son arrestation en février quand il retourna en Grande Bretagne. Tout en remarquant que les motifs de l’homme n’avaient pas été expliqués, le tribunal a expliqué la peine par le fait que si l’homme était arrivé à ses fins, « les conséquences auraient été désastreuses ». Après le verdict, le juge Patrick Field a réservé l’essentiel de son courroux aux forces de sécurité, notant le « manque d’intérêt » affiché par l’aéroport (« affaire menée de manière entièrement erronée et potentiellement dangereuse, une employée avait même mis la bombe dans sa poche avant de la tester dans la machine aux rayons X destinée aux chaussures ») comme par la police : « la chance plus qu’un bon jugement » ont conduit à l’arrestation et à la condamnation, a dénoncé le magistrat.

PSI School had invited TAs to attend from Gulf English School, Hayat Universal Bilingual School and Newton International School making the training not only more cost effective but also adding a diverse mix of TAs with broad experiences.  TAs left with ideas for motivating learners using growth mindset strategies and positive interaction skills.     Day 2: Teaching Assistant Training Day -  Being a Brilliant TA: Outstanding Support in the Classroom   With the same delegates from Day 1 we could now build on the communication skills developed during the previous day to focus on the TAs role in developing consistency in teaching and learning strategies, positive behaviour management and assessment for learning. TAs left the day with ideas to improve their understanding in the rationale behind teachers’ planning, quality questioning techniques and the ability to lead powerful learning conversations.     'The presenter was amazing!'  'Thank you for giving very clear and useful tips to be a super TA' Monday & Tuesday 27th & 28th February 2017 St. Christopher’s School, Bahrain   Two Days of Audit & Consultancy   Prior to the visit key paperwork had been reviewed including Teaching Assistant job descriptions, handbooks, existing CPD programme and performance management documentation. The two days then focused on observing TAs working in the classroom, meetings with key personnel to consider how the role of the TA could be developed further, how teachers improve their work with TAs and next steps for CPD including supporting the school in delivering elements with resources they already have in house. The two days ended with a feedback meeting to present and discuss findings with the Senior Leadership Team. A full report and recommendations then followed a few days later. Discussions with Key Stage Leaders regarding the expectations of the Teaching Assistants followed by feedback and next step discussion with the Senior Leadership Team.   Day 2: Audit led Training Day   From the information collected during day one, the training day focussed on building consistency in the classroom, leading learning conversations and quality questioning. The day also focused on structuring the support given to learners, knowing how to support, when to support and the language to use to develop independence. Nadeen School invited other TAs from British School of Bahrain, Al Wisam School and St. Christopher’s School to attend to training.
