was talking with @newlondohollow about Manus' daughters parallelism which i talked about in the previous post and we've had some realizations:
Tumblr media
like i said Alsanna represents Manus' fear for the gods, and she is very similiar to Filianore, and ironically... her kingdom fell because of a creation of the gods, the Chaos Flame, created by Izalith.
even Manus' incarnation of his fear couldn't escape the thing he was fearful about, the gods.
Tumblr media
Nadalia resembles Manus' loneliness, Manus always felt alone in his entire life, he got segregated, controlled by the gods, and even at Oolacile he couldn't find peace, since he got tortured in the dungeons of it, all alone.
and yet, Manus' incarnation of his loneliness was going to marry... a torturer! the Old Iron King.
ironic, isn't it?
i don't have much to say about Nashandra and Elana since they both resembles Beast!Manus emotions more than Human!Manus'
i love Manus lore

Daughters of Dark observations
Bruh, turns out Alsanna DOES have an eye color, and it is not what I expected!
Tumblr media
This is the texture of her skin and facial features, from this ( x ) website loaded through a ZIP!
I also have a feeling as though Daughters of Dark come in pairs; so, whereas Nashandra and Elana are both blondes with green eyes, Alsanna and Nadalia would both be black-haired with ??? eyes!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean, Elana is not quite herself anymore, but her hair looks very much like actual hair still, and blonde + green eyes combo feels oddly coincidental?
Tumblr media
Nadalia's body is also not what it used to be, but black hair is distinct, and again, to think in 'pairs' sense it'd fit very well for her to be black haired even originally because Alsanna's hair is black!
When I thought what Alsanna's and Nadalia's eyes would be, I really felt maybe red or orange? It'd contrast with the other two's green nicely, since their hair already sort of does! But I suppose I had a right hunch still, because if Alsanna's eye texture gets saturation turned up, it IS, in fact, orange and red!
Tumblr media
Even the "greenish" looking edges are actually on orange spectrum, just try to colorpick and see yourself! An idea: maybe her eyes were a much brighter red/orange color, but saturation is lost in them for now? Meanwhile, if Nadalia still had her face, her eyes would be bright and glow as much as her idols x)

Placing the Smelter Wedge into Nadalia. Since I love messing with camera angles for screenshots, Seeing the camera facing him as he shoves the wedge in had a cinematic feeling. The struggle to make Fume Knight easier.

So in your canon, Ferris and Nadalia knew each other and were in love? Man, to think I couldn't feel more sorry for Nadalia. Why couldn't they be happy together and not dead/mad from loneliness? (And be in a threesome relationship with Alonne.)
Yep ! As a Daughter of Dark is istinctually drawn to strong royal souls I thought it fitting that she’d find her way into a royal family, then Ferris showed his true potential and she realized it was him she searched for. Damn politics always getting in the way !
(but my “non-canon” headcanons totally see her and Alonne as platonic bffs with a dumbass common boyfriend who gets in all sorts of troubles and needs his calm and collected dates to metaphorically leash him)

very interesting how Alsanna and Filianore looks so similiar
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this basically confirms that Manus was from the Ringed City at some point, doesn't it?
Manus being from the Ringed City was very in contact with Filianore, and the gods. he then went to Oolacile for some reason, here's what i think:
i still believe that Manus is the Furtive Pygmy, i think it's a very reasonable theory. i mean, being such an important character lore-wise related to humanity, dark and the abyss, why would he be a random human?
Tumblr media
Manus and the Pygmy Lords got segregated in the Ringed City by Gwyn, which was a beautiful city blocked in time so that the humans couldn't enter in the annals of history.
but Manus was suspicious of Gwyn and his plans, and was scared of what Gwyn could've done to him and his children a.k.a the humans.
Manus then left the Ringed City and went to Oolacile, who was a city very tied with Light and Gwyn.
either he went there to warns everyone about Gwyn's plans or maybe he just wanted to chill with the other humans now that he finally escaped from the gods. (even though they tortured him later on, my man can't catch a break lmao)
Manus' fear got more aggravated after Gwyn started using humanities to rekindle the Flame, but he knew he couldn't do nothing about it. (note: i'm not tryna demonizing Gwyn, i actually love that paranoid old man🫶)
i found very symbolic how Alsanna resemble Manus' fear and is similiar to Filianore, representing Manus' fear for Gwyn, for the gods.
important to point out how also Nashandra and Dusk are very similiar
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nashandra resembles Manus' want, and being similiar to Dusk is probably because she gifted him the pendant, the thing that Manus "wanted" from us when we picked it up.
while for Elana and Nadalia they don't look like someone in specific but still, Nadalia resembles Manus' loneliness, because hey, Manus felt alone his entire life, to the Ringed City where he was segregated, to Oolacile where he got tortured in the dungeons.
while for Elana... i actually don't know about her... other that she resembles Manus' anger when he trasformed into a reckless beast...
i just love DS details that would make DS2 haters say "they just didn't think about it!! it's only a coincidence!!" lol
(also this was very rushed so there may be a few errors...) (also merry christmas!!)

A couple more thoughts on Daughters of Dark, or Dark in general
Tumblr media
It feels consistent that they oddly prefer to wear white (mostly) clothing, despite being associated with the Dark! Flower Skirt might have been Elana's originally since she naturally has floral aesthetic and Daughters of Dark "just arrive" in the kingdoms seeking to seduce the most powerful person around... and Flower Skirt's description says exactly this, that it is cute clothing designed with attracting a potential "patron" in mind! Needless to mention it is found in Shulva!
Besides Daughters of Dark, Velka is another example of a Dark-aligned being that wears white:
Tumblr media
This all just starts to feel more intentional for me tbh! I think beings of Dark, or those heavily aligned with it, instinctively lean towards wearing white clothes to appear "safer" and more.. likeable, I suppose? They know, at least deep down, that everyone fears/hates the Dark, and it motivates them to seek "blending in" and obscuring the darkness, even if in the most superficial way x)
Some just want to have a more "inviting" look in the society that loathes Dark, others might hate themselves and let it rub onto them, some maybe were pressured to wear white (like I can picture Velka wearing white reluctantly). Also imagine Manus not being allowed to appear amongst the other Lords unless he's wearing a white dress and some people embarrassing the hell out of him and Gwyn by joking he must be yet another one of Gwyn's brides fjdhjfdfdh
Another interesting thing is like, I feel like my hunch about Priscilla being connected with the Dark was right! Alsanna is associated with ice/snow and invisibility, whereas Nashandra's true form is just a lot of death quite literally... and these things DO also manifest in Priscilla! Her element is cold and ice, she can turn invisible and she is "antithesis to all life" that also carries literal scythe, weapon symbolic of death!
Since she was discarded at birth for being seen as a threat to all life, these traits must have shown initially rather than just be something from Velka rubbed onto her I think! I still like the idea that Priscilla is a cuck child between Seath and Caitha (a God aligned not just with Dark but also with death!) while Gwyn wasn't looking though fdgsgd But at this rate the idea of Velka being her biological mother isn't that far-stretched xD In either case, Everlasting Dragons aren't linked to Death, so if Priscilla points towards Dark, that'd come from second parent 🤔 It all makes sense, too! In the world of Fire+Life+Light, Ice+Death+Dark are its opposites, everything is very balanced! Death-associated places and Darkness also always come hand in hand in Dark Souls, too!
At the same time, Elana and Nadalia are interestingly reflections of different flow in time! Elana's element is wood in the world where everything that didn't come from Dragons came from the trees! "Tame" Humanity, that isn't wild, manifests as wood (Four Kings are the quickest example), but also Giants in Dark Souls 2 are devolving back into wooden forms. Wood reflects devolution, coming back in the past! Meanwhile, Nadalia's element is ash, which is the opposite; ash is what is left after everything burnt, in the world that holds itself on a lot of burning. It is future and eventual decay it brings. Both likewise oppose what Age(s) of Fire entail, just in different ways: undoing it or exhausting it respectively 🤔 When elements of Alsanna and Nashandra (ice and death) are more directly "hostile" to it!

Hi guys this is Manus, Father of the Abyss from Dark Souls Artorias of the Abyss DLC. It is the final boss of the DLC and a very important character to the Souls series. As the father of the Abyss, it is the reason that the Abyss was created, as it oozes from his body. It is believed that he might be the Furtive Pygmy, original holder of the Dark Soul, but i’m not completely sure on that point. He is encountered in the Chasm of the Abyss. Being the final boss of the DLC, Manus is one of the hardest bosses in the Dark Souls games. He uses a lot of abyss magic, being its creator. Once defeated the player will collect his souls and 10 Humanities. He is still relevant in the other 2 games as his remnants appear in the second game. They are Nashandra, Elana, Nadalia, and Alassana, each being a character in the main game of the DLC’s. Nashandra is the final boss of the original game an is the fragment of power, being the main antagonist of the second game. Elana is the fragment of wrath, and  a boss you must defeat to reach Sinh, the Slumbering Dragon. Nadalia, Bride of Ash is another fragment, but she is split across the areas in the Crown of the Iron King DLC. Alasanna is the uniquest of them, as she represent Manus fears and anxieties. She travels to Eleum Loyce and served under the Ivory King. Of all the fragments Alasanna is the only one who helps the player. In the third game, Abyss creature are shown around the game, as well as the Abyss Watchers, who hunt it. Tell me what you this boss in the comments.I will be posting the Fragments another time, starting with Nashandra.

I always thought the Daughters of Dark in Dark Souls 2 were super cool, so imagine my surprise to know that the shards of Nadalia actually speak!
"Welcome darling. You've come! Come to me. Come quickly!"
"Let me surround you. Let me surround you. Please, let me do it.”
"I've waited so long for you. It was unbearable, my dear!"
"Where were you? Oh it doesn't matter. As long as you’re here!"
"Do whatever you want. I have a champion of the dark! It's you who have lost!"
"You've ruined us! My dear sisters will come."
"I require thy strength. I require thy ear."
"After all that?! You fool! You are blind with nerve..."
The Daughters of Dark’s story is that they are the shattered fragments of Manus, the primeval man who is the furtive pygmy, and one of the holders of the Lord Souls (massive sources of power). Since he’s also the ancestor of humans, this means that humankind were offspring of a sort of the Lord Souls (something the gods weren’t too happy about since they’re, y’know, gods). Manus was tortured and horrifically traumatized, to the point where his humanity (an actual, tangible thing that is inside of humans) “went wild” and created an endless, eternal, devouring Dark called the Abyss.
After the Chosen Undead defeats Manus in Dark Souls 1, his soul shatters and becomes the Daughters of Dark, women who would go on to become queens: Nadalia, Bride of Ash; Alsanna; Elanna, the Squalid Queen; and Nashandra, who became Vendrick’s queen and manipulated him into some messed up stuff. Nashandra, IMO, is arguably the most cruel of them all, with Alsanna being the most genuinely kind. Evanna’s pretty fucked up too, on par with Nashandra, seeing as she condemns an entire kingdom to poisonous misery, along with an innocent dragon (or does she sing to soothe the dragon? I forget. She’s a shit, regardless). Nadalia just strikes me as a woman who went mad with longing and grief. She was so eager to find her king (as all the Daughters did), but arrived far too late: he was already dead, his kingdom in ruins, and she broke herself into pieces, clutching onto memories of him wherever she could find him.
And she actually talks to you!
I think perhaps the saddest bit of it all is that she did have someone sworn to her--Raime is her Champion of Dark. But even that wasn’t enough, apparently :(
