THE DUALITY OF 'IDENTITY' AND 'SELF' IN THE SONGS OF ROCKSTAR
Lord, it would be your generosity
Please free me from myself
Grant me the sight to my true face
Please free me from myself
No matter how much you tear the wind with your wings
You can't escape yourself
Break the sky, burn the worlds down
But you can't hide yourself
Take whichever path you please, your self resides in yourself
You will but come back home.

कागा कागा रे मोरी इतनी अरज तोसे
चुन चुन खाइयो मांस
अरजिया रे खाइयों ना तू नैना मोरे
खाइयों ना तू नैना मोहे
पिया के मिलान की आस ।।
this line smears into your chest & rips the soul out of you. the way a.r rehman sir and irshad kamil sir manifest the pain of a lover who's dead inside & can see the death going to land on his chest in front of his eyes.
the lover's requesting the crow 'kaaga' - the carrier of death, the scavenger to eat the flesh with care & spare the eyes because he's waiting to meet his muse for the last time.
aghhhhhh ! the pain in the verse still sends the shivers down my spine.

Revisiting the "ROCKSTAR" Album and realising how artist, creative and versatile the music team was, like EVERY single song was composed SO differently!?!? Classical, European classical, western, kawali, Rock like HARD Rock, Dark obsessive, and wth idek atp 🤯 all the songs LITERALLY goes with movie, with situation the movie is showing AND as the character develops, the lyrical intelligence develops too like it's the character that gets inspire from different genres and implements it to his music and that's how the music develops 💕

Katiya karu (good for sangeet in my wedding with mingyu🤭😉)
Jo bhi main (from an artists perspective it's a very deep song damnn)

Mohit Chauhan’s Unforgettable Collaborations with A.R. Rahman
The Indian music industry has been blessed with many remarkable voices, but few have managed to carve a niche as unique and enduring as Mohit Chauhan. Known for his soulful renditions and emotive singing style, Mohit has become a household name, leaving an indelible mark on Bollywood and beyond. With a career spanning decades, he continues to resonate with audiences of all ages, making him a timeless figure in the world of music.
The Early Days: A Melodic Journey Begins
Born on March 11, 1966, in the serene hills of Nahan, Himachal Pradesh, Mohit Chauhan’s early life was far removed from the glitz and glamour of Bollywood. His upbringing in a tranquil environment influenced his personality and music, instilling in him a deep appreciation for nature and simplicity. However, it wasn’t until his college years that he discovered his love for music. Surprisingly, Mohit holds a Master’s degree in Geology, a far cry from the artistic world he would later dominate.
During his formative years, music was more of a passion than a career aspiration. Influenced by Kishore Kumar, Bob Dylan, and The Beatles, Mohit began experimenting with various musical styles, eventually forming his band, Silk Route, in 1996. This decision marked the beginning of a journey that would change the landscape of Indian music.
The Silk Route Era: Introducing a Unique Voice
Silk Route burst onto the Indian music scene with their debut album “Boondein” in 1998. The album’s hit single, “Dooba Dooba”, became an instant sensation. Its refreshing acoustic sound, combined with Mohit’s mesmerizing voice, was unlike anything Indian audiences had heard before. The music video, with its underwater visuals, became iconic, further cementing the song’s place in pop culture.
During this era, Mohit’s voice was synonymous with indie pop, a genre that was gaining traction in India. Silk Route’s music stood out for its poetic lyrics, acoustic arrangements, and a distinct lack of overproduction, which allowed Mohit’s voice to take center stage. Although the band eventually disbanded, its influence continues to inspire independent musicians across the country.
Transition to Bollywood: A Star is Born
Mohit’s foray into Bollywood began in 2002 with the song “Pehli Nazar Mein Dari Thi” from the film Road. However, it wasn’t until “Khoon Chala” from Rang De Basanti (2006) and “Tum Se Hi” from Jab We Met (2007) that he truly became a household name. These songs showcased his ability to convey deep emotion through his voice, striking a chord with millions.
His collaboration with composer Pritam on “Tum Se Hi” was a turning point in his career. The song’s dreamy melody, combined with Mohit’s heartfelt rendition, made it one of the most beloved romantic tracks of all time. It also established him as a leading playback singer in Bollywood, opening doors to numerous opportunities.
Rockstar and Beyond: A Pinnacle of Success
If there’s one project that solidified Mohit Chauhan’s legacy, it’s Rockstar (2011). Teaming up with legendary composer A.R. Rahman, Mohit lent his voice to almost every song in the film’s soundtrack. Tracks like “Phir Se Ud Chala”, “Jo Bhi Main”, and “Nadaan Parindey” became anthems, with “Sadda Haq” turning into a youth rallying cry.
The Rockstar album was a testament to Mohit’s versatility. Whether it was the tender vulnerability of “Tum Ho” or the rebellious energy of “Sadda Haq,” he effortlessly brought each song to life. His work on this soundtrack earned him widespread critical acclaim, along with numerous awards, including a Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer.
The Essence of Mohit Chauhan’s Music
What sets Mohit Chauhan apart from his peers is the soulfulness of his voice. He doesn’t just sing a song; he tells a story, evoking emotions that linger long after the music stops. His ability to adapt his singing style to suit different genres — be it romantic ballads, rock anthems, or indie folk — is a testament to his versatility as an artist.
Another defining aspect of Mohit’s music is his attention to lyrics. Whether it’s the poetic beauty of “Phir Se Ud Chala” or the introspective depth of “Jo Bhi Main,” his songs often carry profound meaning, resonating deeply with listeners.
A Global Icon with Roots in Tradition
Despite achieving global fame, Mohit Chauhan remains deeply connected to his roots. He frequently incorporates elements of Himachali folk music into his work, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of his home state. He has also performed at various international events, representing India on a global stage and introducing audiences to the diverse sounds of Indian music.
A Legacy That Endures
Mohit Chauhan journey from the quiet hills of Himachal Pradesh to the bustling studios of Bollywood is nothing short of inspirational. Over the years, he has redefined what it means to be a playback singer, proving that authenticity and passion are key to creating timeless music. His songs continue to be cherished by fans across generations, and his influence on the Indian music industry is immeasurable.

Rockstar: A Soulful Journey Through Music
Released in 2011, Rockstar follows the emotional and artistic journey of Janardhan "Jordan" Jakhar (Ranbir Kapoor), a young musician whose ascent to fame is fueled by heartbreak, loss, and a deep, burning passion for music. Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the film beautifully explores Jordan’s transformation from an innocent dreamer to a tortured rock star. Alongside Jordan is Heer Kaul (Nargis Fakhri), his muse and love interest, whose fleeting presence ignites a profound emotional and artistic evolution within him.
At Ruh Radio, broadcasting on 1440 AM, we are deeply connected with the music of Rockstar, as it perfectly encapsulates the struggles, passions, and aspirations of Jordan’s journey. Composed by the legendary A.R. Rahman, the soundtrack is a masterclass in musical storytelling, each track amplifying Jordan's emotional and artistic growth. Here, we explore these iconic songs, each one a testament to his transformative journey.
Kun Faya Kun
"Kun Faya Kun" is a deeply spiritual track, performed by A.R. Rahman, Javed Ali, and Mohit Chauhan. Set against the backdrop of the Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah, this song symbolizes Jordan’s surrender to a higher power and his quest for self-realization. The phrase "Kun Faya Kun," meaning "Be, and it is," is a moment of spiritual awakening for Jordan, marking the beginning of his journey toward true artistic freedom. For our listeners at Ruh Radio, this track remains a favorite, offering peace and connection with the divine through its soothing melody and powerful message.
Jo Bhi Main
"Jo Bhi Main" reflects Jordan’s inner turmoil, as he grapples with his identity and the price of fame. Sung by Mohit Chauhan, this introspective track delves deep into Jordan's confusion as he struggles to reconcile his true self with the public image he must uphold. The haunting lyrics by Irshad Kamil speak to anyone who has ever felt misunderstood or alienated. We often hear our listeners connect with this poignant anthem, making it a timeless favorite for those who struggle with finding their true voice in a world full of expectations.
Phir Se Ud Chala
A song about freedom and the pursuit of dreams, "Phir Se Ud Chala" is an expression of Jordan’s desire to break free from societal constraints and follow his musical path. Sung by Mohit Chauhan, this track combines elements of folk and rock, creating a soundscape that mirrors Jordan’s restless, wanderlust-filled spirit. For the our audience, "Phir Se Ud Chala" is a song that inspires hope and the courage to chase one’s dreams, regardless of the obstacles in the way.
Sadda Haq
"Sadda Haq" is an electrifying anthem that captures the raw intensity of Jordan’s inner rebellion. Sung by Mohit Chauhan, this song channels Jordan's frustration with societal norms and his refusal to conform to expectations. The powerful guitar riffs and intense lyrics create an undeniable sense of defiance, making "Sadda Haq" an empowering anthem for listeners who refuse to be boxed in by conventionality. This song has become a rallying cry for independence and freedom.
Tum Ho
"Tum Ho" is a haunting love ballad that beautifully captures the bond between Jordan and Heer. Sung by Mohit Chauhan and Suzanne D’Mello, this song expresses the tenderness and tragedy of their love story. The simplicity of the arrangement enhances the emotional depth, making it one of the most beloved tracks from the film. Tum Ho often resonates with listeners who have experienced the complexities of love and loss, making it a cherished song on our station.
Nadaan Parindey
"Nadaan Parindey," another powerful rock ballad by Mohit Chauhan, speaks to the theme of returning home—both physically and emotionally. The lyrics echo Jordan's realization of the emptiness that comes with fame and his longing for true connection. This song strikes a chord with listeners who seek authenticity and meaning in their own lives, making it one of the most requested tracks that delve deep into the emotional landscape of self-reflection.
Sheher Mein and Hawaa Hawaa
"Sheher Mein" and "Hawaa Hawaa" offer a glimpse into Jordan’s early, carefree days before he becomes entangled in the darker side of fame. While "Sheher Mein" captures his excitement as an emerging artist, "Hawaa Hawaa" highlights his playful, carefree spirit. These songs represent the innocence of youth and the untainted dreams of a young artist before the weight of the world begins to take its toll. At Ruh Radio, we often hear our audience reminisce about their own youthful ambitions, making these tracks a nostalgic favorite for many.
Through the synergy of A.R. Rahman’s compositions, Irshad Kamil’s powerful lyrics, and Mohit Chauhan’s emotive vocals, the soundtrack of Rockstar remains one of the most impactful and soul-stirring albums in Bollywood history. For us at Ruh Radio, this collection of songs is more than just a soundtrack—it is a musical journey that reflects the complexities of life, love, and the pursuit of one’s true calling. Rockstar continues to echo in the hearts of our listeners, connecting deeply with those who have ever loved, dreamed, or struggled to find their true self.

Thanks for the tag @ispeakmorelanguagesthanyou
Sorry, I'm a bit awkward in talking about myself😅and for the late reblog😭 I was busy with exams.
LAST SONG: Nadaan Parindey cuz it's my spirit song and well I love emo songs. Also cuz it's ✨A.R Rahman and Mohit Chauhan✨ and the lyrics hit all the right chords of my heart.
FAVOURITE COLOUR: rn it is Periwinkle Purple cuz it's soothing and is a soft colour. And periwinkle flower is also pretty so that's another reason.
CURRENTLY WATCHING: I have been watching this documentary on Disney+ Hotstar about the Tirupati temple. I'm into spirituality and sanatan a lot that's why and for a possible future trip.
SWEET/SAVOURY/SPICY: My taste buds r as moody as that of pregnant woman. It depends all on the mood. It keeps changing every hour.
RELATIONSHIP STATUS: I am in a happy relationship with myself, my phone and my charger. Yea that's it (kya matlab mere se koi patega nahi)
CURRENT OBSESSION: One and Only, million dollar guy 🧿ISHAN KISHAN🧿 and cricket ofc is my religion rn✨ Also currently simping over Issy Wong too but we won't talk about it 👀
LAST THING YOU SEARCHED: "ipl schedule 2024" for obvious reasons🙂
I don't talk to much people here so:
@bimesskaira @whimsicalfaeries @k-h-watari @miyuki7 @athena-swords
Yea that's it😅
9 people to get to know better
Thanks for the tag @kingfisherprince :)
LAST SONG : 'Govyachya kinaryava' which is a Marathi song in the konkani dialect, because I hate it when I've been surrounded by people who don't speak my mother tongue for extended periods of time so I play my Marathi playlist to just hear the language. It soothes me more than you can imagine 😊
FAVOURITE COLOUR : Ultramarine blue or sea green, because they both remind me of the ocean which in turn reminds me of home 💙
CURRENTLY WATCHING: It's a documentary called 'Bandon me tha dum' about the legendary Border - Gavaskar trophy series India vs Australia of 2020/21. My god the way we played cricket with a team at less than half capacity, countless injuries and hostile conditions, it is truly awe inspiring.
SWEET / SAVOURY / SPICY : Spicy all the way! Give me all the spice, I wanna burn my mouth 😁
RELATIONSHIP STATUS : Somehow found a guy? I don't know how it happened myself but we love him
CURRENT OBSESSION : As you can probably tell, it's cricket 😅. It seems to be the only thing I can write about these days
LAST THING YOU SEARCHED : Sertraline, which is an antidepressant drug. And no, I'm not depressed, I'm just a medical student who has to give a Pharmac in less than 10 days (which might actually be the same thing...)
Don't think I can tag 9 people for this, but...
@the-slythering-raven @madhare0512 @sleepstxtic @ronika-writes-stuff @ishuess
And anyone else who is interested! 😊

Cookie my dear! I don't know if you take requests and I'm not that great at recs but I thought I'd ask what you think of "Naadan Parindey' and/or "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil" title track for Buddie video one day??? 😂😂😂
Hi! So I'm always interested in finding new songs, 911 related or otherwise, but the thing with requests/ them turning into videos is that it's very much subject to my own inspiration and what the show provides me. So absolutely no promises made!
I've already got Nadaan Parindey as an Eddie song but I've yet to be able to make a coherent story from it (maybe something season 5 🤔). Maybe one day I'll be in the right mood.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil isn't on the list and having had a re-listen, I feel like I've already made a few videos in this vein. So it'll go on the list as a Buddie song but it's a little less likely to get made.
Feel free to keep these coming though - a lot of my videos are from song recs and getting a thought stuck in my head! But I don't officially take requests because there's no guarantee of things getting made if I don't vibe with it.
