summary: you and taeha were born to be each other's only comfort.
authors note: beom taeha is hot and everything but he also needs comfort, am i right? idk, i felt like writing this, i'm sorry if it's bad, it's been a month or something that i don't sit down to write anything, UNI HAS BEEN MURDERING ME.

word count: 2k

it wouldn't be a stretch to say that beom taeha was your friend, but he made it seem as though you were complete strangers. that was the heir's art—luring his victims into a labyrinth of deception with nothing more than his charm and influence.
you and taeha grew up side by side, a bond carefully orchestrated by billionaire fathers with grand ambitions for their offspring. in a world ruled by predatory men and money-hungry beasts, you were both caught in a twisted web designed to transform you into something beyond human.
as the years passed, the scars of your shared past became both a burden and a weapon. once victims, you had slowly morphed into the very predators you once despised. each day was a silent battle between the lingering pain of your upbringing and the intoxicating allure of power and control.
in the dead of night, when the city slept under a veil of melancholy, you and taeha would meet in secret. these clandestine encounters were a mix of bitter reminiscence and unspoken vows of retribution. while taeha's smile masked a soul tormented by old wounds, yours revealed the weight of a thousand unspoken truths. together, you navigated a fragile alliance—both partners in a game of revenge and rivals bound by a shared destiny.
at some point, your paths were forcibly torn apart. no longer useful for your parents' grand designs, you were discarded as if the bond you once shared was nothing more than a convenient tool. the unbreakable ride-or-die pact of your childhood was shattered, leaving only memories of what had been. it wasn't until years later that you encountered beom taeha again—by then, he had become a hardened man molded by betrayal and loss, while you emerged as a resilient woman, defined by the quiet strength born of survival.
as teenagers, you both navigated the same high school corridors, where memories of a shared past resurfaced like a hazy dream. the unspoken chemistry between you felt almost magnetic—a mysterious pull that defied explanation. in the midst of youthful longing, love became intertwined with taeha’s all-consuming obsession and subtle manipulation. what began as a simple childhood crush gradually deepened into a desperate yearning as the years passed.
while every other girl clamored for taeha’s attention, you maintained a quiet resolve, secretly cherishing the moments that slipped away unnoticed. furtive kisses after class and stolen glances on the walk home became the language of your hidden connection—a silent rebellion against a world that sought to exploit your vulnerabilities. these tender exchanges, born from a past marred by betrayal and control, provided a fragile sanctuary in the midst of adolescent chaos.
even as the pressures of high school and the looming shadows of your parents’ ambitions threatened to tear you apart, those secret moments stitched together the fabric of your bond. in the quiet corners of classrooms and the dim glow of twilight, you both dared to dream of a future where love might overcome the legacy of manipulation—a future where the intensity of your connection could transform pain into a promise of liberation.
and then you graduated. at graduation, taeha made you feel cherished, his every look and touch a reminder of the love you both once thought was invincible. even as you stepped into the unknown future, his presence lingered like a soft echo of your shared past.
soon after, a shift began to reveal itself. taeha, once content with the quiet rebellion of stolen kisses and secret smiles, set his sights on a bolder destiny. no longer willing to be a mere pawn in his father's grand design, he craved to become the rightful heir of the family empire—defiantly casting aside the shadow of his older brother. it was a wild ambition, as unpredictable and fierce as taeha himself.
taeha changed just right before your eyes. his gentle, familiar gaze hardened into one of steely determination, and the playful charm you once knew transformed into a relentless drive for power. in this metamorphosis, you saw the man who had once whispered dreams of escape now embracing the very legacy that once imprisoned him. every encounter was tinged with both the warmth of past affections and the cold fire of newfound ambition.
in the quiet moments between the chaos of his rising influence and the bittersweet memories of your childhood, you found yourself at a crossroads. the love you shared was still there, echoing in the secret corners of your heart, but it now danced with the shadows of obsession and manipulation.
after years of deciphering the subtle language in taeha’s eyes and the quiet signals in his every habit, you had become an expert at reading him. in moments like this, seated at a dinner with his family, you couldn’t help but wonder if meeting beom taeha again had been a mistake. the conversation had taken an all-too-familiar turn—a heated debate between his older brother and taeha resurfacing old rivalries. taehee, fresh from a long journey in korea, was livid upon discovering that his little brother was derailing his own ambitions to claim their father’s legacy. and as if that weren’t enough, taehee’s long-standing habit of hitting on you only added to the charged atmosphere.
you sat at the table, the hum of polite chatter masking the tension that knotted the air. every glance, every carefully chosen word, hinted at unresolved battles from the past. taeha’s eyes, once a safe harbor of familiar affection, now betrayed a storm of conflicted ambition and pain.
you didn't like that look a bit.
as the dinner progressed, the conversation grew sharper, more pointed. taehee’s barbed remarks sliced through the fragile calm, forcing you to confront the bitter reality of family loyalty and betrayal. in that public setting, you were caught in the middle of a feud that had outgrown youthful rivalry and matured into something far darker—a relentless clash of wills and hidden wounds.
in the midst of the tense dinner, the atmosphere had grown unbearably heavy. the table had become a battleground where years of suppressed pain and rivalry erupted into harsh words and bitter accusations. taehee’s voice, laced with venom, had sliced through the fragile calm that once lingered between you and taeha. his words, meant to wound and diminish, had finally become too much. with one final, cutting remark, taehee declared, "you don't even have real blood, start minding your own business and let me handle father's legacy."
in that instant, something inside taeha broke. his eyes, usually so composed and mysterious, ignited with a raw, seething anger. without a word, he abruptly pushed back his chair and stood up, his expression contorted by a mix of fury and despair. before anyone could react, he turned and stormed out of the room, leaving behind stunned silence and a scattering of disbelieving glances.
you felt your heart seize in protest. without a second thought, you excused yourself from the table and followed after him, your footsteps quickening as you ventured into the cool, rain-kissed night.
the city outside was a maze of neon reflections and damp pavements, the familiar hum of distant traffic merging with the soft patter of rain. you could barely see through the haze of streetlights as you tracked his retreating figure. eventually, you found him in a narrow, deserted alleyway behind a row of shuttered shops. there, under the flickering glow of a lone streetlamp, taeha stood with his back turned, his silhouette tense and rigid. his fists were clenched at his sides, and his posture screamed of unresolved torment.
you searched for jay with your eyes, but the bodyguard seemed to have gotten the memo to not bother his boss at the moment and maitain his distance. you, however, was the only one brave enough to choose to be close to the youngest beom at moments like this.
"taeha," you called softly, your voice trembling with concern. the sound of your voice seemed to reach him, and he paused for a moment, his body still but his head still turned away. you stepped closer, your heart aching at the sight of the pain etched so deeply into his stance.
"why did you leave?" you asked, your tone gentle yet urgent, as if afraid that the question itself might shatter the delicate remnants of calm you hoped to restore. there was a long, heavy silence before he finally answered, his voice a rough whisper, "i might kill that bastard, y/n, i swear."
his anger was so palpable you almost flinched.
you moved closer still, placing a tentative hand on his shoulder. "taeha, listen to me—you are so much more than what they claim. please, don't let their words drown out the truth of who you are. taehee is an asshole, you know that."
for a moment, his tense posture faltered. his eyes, glistening with a storm of conflicting emotions—anger, hurt, and a deep-seated longing for solace—met yours. "yeah, that fucker deserves death," he murmured, his voice cracking with vulnerability. "i feel so damned lost in all of it—the anger, the betrayal, the weight of expectations. it’s like i’m trapped in a cycle i can’t break. i hate being in that house."
"i know it feels overwhelming," you replied softly, wrapping your arms around him in a comforting embrace. "but you don't have to carry this alone. they made us to be each other's comfort, isn't that right?"
taeha leaned into your embrace, his body trembling as if trying to release years of pent-up pain. "i'll kill them all, y/n," he admitted, his voice barely audible over the distant city sounds. "i'll kill them and restart with you from scratch, that's my wish."
you gently stroked his hair, letting your fingers trace the lines of his face as if trying to etch the memory of his true self into your heart. "i believe you, taeha," you whispered.
and you did. sometimes you wish everyone was dead except taeha too.
maybe that’s what you both were made for: complete each other’s crimes.
the night deepened around you both, and together you began walking through the deserted streets. the neon lights blurred into a comforting glow as you recounted memories of childhood escapades—of secret hideaways and midnight rendezvous under starry skies. with every step, the weight of the evening’s turmoil started to lift, replaced by the shared determination to reclaim the dreams that had once united you.
the path eventually led you to a quiet park, where the hum of the city faded into the background. beneath a lone streetlamp, you paused. the cool night air mingled with the warmth of your connection, and taeha's eyes shone with a vulnerability that belied his hardened exterior.
without a word, he reached for your hand, pulling you close until the distance between you vanished. in that charged silence, you felt the unspoken truth between you—a truth too powerful to resist any longer. slowly, deliberately, your lips met in a kiss that was both tender and fierce, as if trying to rewrite the scars of the past with the promise of a new beginning.
when the kiss broke, taeha's forehead rested against yours. his eyes, glistening with unshed tears and fierce emotion, searched yours for reassurance. after a long, lingering moment, he spoke softly, "i don't know what i'd do without you."
in that fragile confession, every ounce of pain, anger, and longing melted away into something raw and beautiful—a reminder that even in the darkest moments, love could be the beacon guiding you both forward.
you held him tighter, your heart echoing his unspoken promise. "we'll face it all together," you murmured. "nothing can break us when we're side by side."
under the gentle glow of the streetlamp, with the city quietly stirring around you, you both found a moment of solace—a fleeting yet powerful testament to the strength of your bond and the hope of a future forged from shared resilience and unconditional love.

Ari: a realistic overview of a mistress and manipulation.
I've talked a lot about how annoying the TOAWF is but now I'll go more into the actual story.

I have noticed the plot slowly getting to a slightly faster pace along with the dialog improving but the one thing I currently like about besides the realistic aspects of moving on from a toxic relationship is the mistress you'd normally expect to hate: Ari.
Ari is a 25 year old co worker who unknowingly became Mincheols mistress under the assumption that he was single. She is often portrayed as incredibly naive and even a tad childish in certain panels. Normally in manhwa mistresses are treated with even more contempt then the man, usually justifying this by making the mistress even worse then the cheater but Ari not only has no clue Micheol is still living with Hae soo but she's really not that terrible of a person outside of him, she's just an office worker with a crush and said crush never corrected her because he wanted to get petty revenge on the woman who was doing everything for him.
When she does find out the truth Ari is reasonably pissed off and leaves on the spot but a few chapters later she runs into Micheol again and starts to tell him off and he proceeds to basically tell her "yeah I'm a piece of shit alright, go find someone better because I'm just a loser" he guilt trips her and Ari runs back to him crying for him not to leave. A lot of readers took this as proof that Ari is a bitch who deserves to die and normally I would be upset that TOAWF would ruin the chance for women supporting women but with the context I don't think that's the narratives goal.
Ari believing Micheols shit and going back to him isn't supposed to be a way to convince the audience she's a bitch, it's a tragedy because Ari is going to become Micheols next victim of abuse and before you know it she's gonna end up just like Hae Soo if Micheol can't get back with his ex. That's what really sets Ari apart from other mistress characters in manhwa, instead of portraying her as another white lotus she is portrayed as an unknowing woman who was manipulated back into the cheaters arms after he guilt tripped her, Ari isn't evil she's a person with flaws like everyone else.
So far, I have hope that this story won't pit it's women against eachother for the sake of plot and it's just the toxic side of the fanbase misinterpreting the writing. (Please let this be the case 🙏)

It's incredible how a simple gesture, like a gift, can change the course of things. Taeha, with the gifts Haesoo gave him, seems to have found something more than just a material object: there’s a hidden bond, an intensity growing between them. The kiss they shared, the second one, was a moment that shook them both, a sign that their emotions are now unstoppable.
Yet, it’s not just about affection, but also the attraction Taeha exerts with his gaze. There’s something in the way he looks that has an undeniable power, as if every action is meant to enchant and conquer. Haesoo, who thought she could introduce someone else into Taeha’s life, hadn’t anticipated that a kiss could be so much stronger than any unsaid word.
But then, shall we talk about Taeha's warrior look, straight out of the anime Princess Mononoke? 🤔😂

2 reasons I’m posting this,
1. I want the Tears on a Withered Flower fandom to grow on Tumblr
2. I need to vent cause, HOW THE FUUCCK does the greenest, green flag, now not flag, FUCKIN’ FOREST just die!! Like, Mincheol got her gifts, saved up money to get her a phone, saved her from bullies, AND took beatings from people because he saved her! I just… I can’t believe it, like I understand why Na Hae-Soo is still hung up on him after everything he’s done! God… it hurts and it’s so scary cause this is a real life situation and occurrence which is insane.

Hae Soo is a boring character+ what I do like so far about the story.

Before I start, I want to make it clear that while I do think Hae Soo is a dull FL, she is not the worst FL ever written.
This manhwa is frankly overhyped. I gave it the benefit of the doubt before since it only had around 20-30 chapters so of course it wouldn't be full of complexities right off the bat, but given how the story is going.. I predict this will just be a wattpad-esque tale.
I really don't like saying but first of all: Hae soo has all of those Y/N traits. Okay maybe that's a little exaggerating but it's still there in a way. Hae Soo is described by a lot of other characters as "aging" "ugly" and even calling her aunty/grandma depending on the translation. These are other people thinking this, not just Hae Soo and it's supposed to make her "relatable" for not being seen as totally hot by everyone.. but if you saw her body type and even her face which is just perfectly smooth with tiny lips and eyelashes that just look like eye bags, this gets contradictory.
And I'm not just saying the body type alone is bad. A lot of fans often retaliate with "your just jealous of her" (which why would anyone be unironically jealous of a drawing?) But that her body type is possible and actually yes, it is, is incredibly rare to get that body type without any modifications but it is possible. However this isn't because TOAWF wants to represent someone. Its the sexualize her.
I really dont know how to explain how the art is made to show off how sexy Hae Soo is without sounding creepy so I'll just drop a bunch of panels I found of her doing ordinary day-to-day things while her body becomes the most defining feature.

Personally, I think it's because the arms are too small for that torso. I'm sure there's more but I don't wanna be too nitpicky.
I do also want to specify that plenty of other female characters in the comic like Ari are also sexulized but most of the time with those characters, it's only when they are in inherent sexual situations. (Like all of the panels of Ari after she was either in the middle of or already finished sleeping with Micheol) wheras Hae Soo can be doing absolutely nothing at all and her clothes are drawn right as hell while all her body parts are sticking out like a sore thumb.
Another thing that makes Hae Soo dull is that she relies on how much the readers pity her. Left and right she's either being insulted or she's getting cheated on or she's getting bullied in flashbacks. Almost everything about her that is interesting is something that hurt her, not to say she doesn't have any personality at all, I can definitely see a little something in her but she still heavily relies on something bad happening to her to garner care from the audience, if it's not that it's her super sexy romance with Tae Ha.
speaking of Tae Ha, he isn't very interesting so far either. I think his reasons for being obsessed with Hae Soo are still largely unknown, hes mostly just the same "Mafia boyfriend." Archetype, he made a straight up doll to look like Hae Soo which..yeah that's creepy. He is only really liked because well, he's hot and NOT Micheol so he's already "better".
What I do like about TOAWF though is that they aren't skipping scenes just to get to the mid romance. We are actually getting chapters explaing Hae Soo and Micheols relationship before and how it used to be a sweet one until debt and miscarriage. We get to see Micheol with his new life with Ari that has hints of how much she is being manipulated. The comments might say "I don't wanna see trash. I wanna see my sexy Tae Ha with his Hae Soo." But differing perspectives and highlighting other characters is what's saving this story a little. You can't just skip all the important pieces for the "good stuff." And expect a good story.
That said I do understand the commenter's impatience because so far Micheol is leagues more interesting then the ML Tae Ha and like me, we just wanna know why this dude randomly liked Hae Soo to the point of making dolls of her. There just needs to be a middle ground between the two perspectives.
Final thoughts: I don't think Micheol should receive karma. I know, a really weird idea but here me out.
I understand the allure of these types of stories where the babe gets revenge on the loser ex but if we wanted to be both a unique and interesting story than Micheol being allowed to live on being a shitty person would work. It would be awful to think about, yes, but this is unfortunately the real world and in the real world, it is REALLY rare that a cheater will actually face karma. Micheol should be allowed his life with Ari, where she could either realize she's in an abusive relationship down the line and find the courage to nope out of there or she could stay and it would be a tragic ending and the painful truth that life isn't always fair. This could work well as long as the plot doesnt make it out as "Haha Ari! You deserve this! Haha!"
