N7 Month, 2019: Day 14 - Name
Mooooooore fluff!
++
“Shepard?”
Shepard was roused from his thoughts, opened his eyes. His head was rested on Kaidan’s chest in bed, the soft light of the Loft’s fish tank illuminating the soft expanse of skin.
“Hmm?”
“What do you think about that?” Kaidan asked, stroking a hand down Shepard’s back.
“About what?”
Kaidan chuckled.
“You didn’t hear anything I said, did you? You falling asleep?”
“No,” Shepard answered, truthfully. “Just lost in my thoughts, I guess.”
“What’re you thinking about?” Kaidan asked, his voice a sleepy rasp, his warm breath against Shepard’s head as he pressed a kiss into Shepard’s hair.
“’Shepard,’” he answered.
“I don’t follow.”
“You call me ‘Shepard,’” he let his hand linger on the expanse of Kaidan’s chest, letting himself sink into the comfort of the mattress and of his lover’s embrace.
“Guess that’s pretty informal, considering,” Kaidan laughed softly. “Should I call you ‘John?’”
“Maybe,” Shepard replied. “I don’t know. I like when you call me ‘Shepard.’”
“But you’re ‘Shepard’ to everybody.”
“I know.” This time he turned his head and met Kaidan’s eyes, “Something about the way you say it, though. Just different.”
“Different, huh?”
“Reminds me of where we came from,” Shepard remembered the first time Kaidan had called him by his name aboard the SR-1. He remembered the growl in Kaidan’s voice as he called him ‘Shepard’ as they made love earlier that evening.
“I’ve always wanted to call you ‘John,’” Kaidan smiled.
“Really?”
“Does anybody call you that?”
“No, and nobody really ever did.”
“So, wanna try it on sometime?”
“You can call me anything you like,” he kissed Kaidan’s lips gently. “But I’m okay with ‘Shepard.’”
“Alright, Shepard.” Kaidan conceded. “Alright.”

N7 Month, Day 12 - Underworld
More Allie & Kaidan - a bit angsty, though, as they talk a bit about her death & Kaidan makes a heartbreaking confession. It’s also on AO3, if you’d rather read it there (since it’s a longer one). And thanks to @freelancer-chronicles for answering my movie questions for me! . . . . . . “So, what's the movie for tonight?” Allie asked, pulling popcorn from the microwave. “I really hope it isn't another Blasto movie. I know you love those...” “Relax,” Kaidan said, shifting on the couch so Allie could curl up next to him. “I figured we'd go with something a little different. What are your thoughts on monster movies?” “Monsters as in, what? Vampires and werewolves?” “Exactly.” Kaidan took the bowl of popcorn from Allie as she settled in next to him, nestling against his chest. He popped some of their snack into his mouth, then fed her a couple of pieces, groaning when she licked the salt and butter from his fingers. “If you keep that up, though, I might have to take you to bed early.” “Don't threaten me with a good time,” she grinned, looking up at him. “Seriously, though, what movie did you pick?” “It's an old movie. A series, actually.” Kaidan stretched forward and grabbed the vid case. “'Underworld' it's called. A few of the students have seen them and said they're actually pretty good. Vampires vs. werewolves and there's a love story mingled in. Almost a Romeo and Juliet kind of thing.” “A love story, hm?” Allie resumed her spot snuggled against Kaidan's chest. “No, it's a horror movie with love elements sprinkled in. I guess that was their way of drawing women in to see a movie. The guys went for the blood and guts and the women went for the romance,” Kaidan shrugged and turned on the TV. Allie rolled her eyes. “Like women aren't allowed to like blood and guts?” she scoffed. “Well, it was different back then, you know that. There were 'girl things' and 'boy things' and it took a long time for people to break out of those ideas.” “I'm glad they did. Your gender shouldn't determine what kind of movies you like,” Allie said as the opening credits rolled. “It shouldn't determine what kind of anything you like.” When the movie finished, Allie sighed and stretched. “I think your students have pretty good taste,” she noted, squealing when Kaidan tickled his fingers down her ribs. She swatted his hand away and added, “I liked it. You said it was a series?” “Yeah,” he flipped the vid case and read the back. “There are five of them all together.” Allie checked the time. “Well, tomorrow's Saturday, but I do have a meeting with the Council in the afternoon, which means I could sleep in.” “Maybe you could sleep in.” Kaidan gave her a fiendish grin and pushed her back on the couch. “I don't have class or anything,” he nipped along her neck, “so if you're suggesting a marathon, I’m game.” “At the rate you're going, the only thing we'll be marathoning is sex,” she breathed, clutching his hair. “Mmm,” he teased his nose along her jaw. “Maybe we could do both.” Allie sighed when Kaidan braced himself above her and brushed her hair from her face. “Both is good,” she admitted, leaning up to kiss him, her tongue barely darting out to swirl with his, “but movie first.” Kaidan hummed in response and moved back so Allie could sit back up and resume her spot curled against him. When they finished the third movie, Allie sighed and stared at the TV as the credits rolled. “So, you up for number four?” Kaidan sighed and caressed Allie's arm. “Actually, I think I'm about ready for bed,” he admitted. “Oh?” Allie sat up and curled her legs under her. “Are you ok? Are you getting a migraine?” She ran her fingers through his hair and he grabbed her wrist, lacing their fingers together. “I just... Right now I just want to curl up in bed and hold you.” His voice cracked and Allie's heart broke when tears filled his eyes. “Kaidan, what is it?” “That scene where Lucian had to watch Sonja...” He pressed his lips together and closed his eyes, trying to compose himself. “When the Normandy went down, your comms were still on. I heard everything. I heard you die, Allie, and that scene just brought everything back.” “Oh, Kaidan,” Allie pulled her against him and stroked his hair. “I had no idea.” He sighed again and wrapped his arms around her, nestling his head against her chest. “It was probably the hardest thing I've ever done, Allie. I could hear you swear, then talk yourself through what you needed to do,” he squeezed his eyes shut and shook his head. “I've never felt so helpless in my life.” Allie straddled Kaidan's lap and cradled his face in her hands. “Kaidan, I'm here and I'm not going anywhere. I love you and I'm yours as long as you'll have me.” Kaidan nodded and pulled Allie into another embrace. “Say it again,” he whispered. “I love you, Kaidan. I always will.” As they held each other, Allie thought about what Kaidan just told her. In the years since the Normandy went down, she never heard anyone mention they heard her die. It suddenly put his reaction on Horizon into a new perspective – it was one thing to know the person you loved had died, but to have listened to it...? She realized that he knew she was dead. Everyone else might have doubted it, that she somehow might have survived, but Kaidan knew. He listened to her last gasps, he heard her when she muttered under her breath, fighting the rising panic in her chest. It was no wonder he had such a hard time believing it was actually her standing in front of him.
“I don't know what I'd do if I lost you again, Allie.” He leaned back and studied her face, brushing a tendril of hair behind her ear. Allie smiled at him and caressed his face. “You'll never find out. Besides, maybe there's still a Cerberus lab out there somewhere that has this virus that will turn us into vampires or something. Then we'd live forever.” Her comment got a smile from him. “I think you'd be the better vampire. With all this hair, I'm already half werewolf as it is.” Allie laughed and pressed her forehead to his. “So, what do you say to a cuddle marathon then?” Kaidan took a deep breath and sighed, his smile still on his face. “I think that's a great idea.”

Last month, we were told that Dragon Age 4 was in deep pre-production, and it wasn't going to be released until at least 2024/2025, as the game seemingly was still undergoing it's initial pre-production phases.
However, in the months prior, we had contradictory news stories stating that Dragon Age 4 had already begun its full-development stages, and pre-production had wrapped up. These stories were both the Anthem team reshuffling back to Dragon Age, and the departure of Fernando Melo who in his goodbye letter, stated that he helmed Dragon Age 4 out of pre-production and into full-swing development.
The expectation of this game's release was quite convoluted in the messages that BioWare's senior staff were sending out. But as of today, this matter can rest in ease it seems because we have an update straight from EA themselves.
Y'see, with the publication of EA's 2019 earnings call, an update has been made on Dragon Age 4's expected release. And it's actually sooner than we expected since the original release window which was aimed at 2024/2025.
As it follows, Daniel Ahmad, a senior analyst at Niko Partners, was sitting in on the EA conference call that happened. He shared on Twitter the following statement:
"EA says that new Dragon Age from BioWare is in development but likely won't be until after FY22. So after April 2022."
2022 is quite a dramatic change of time compared to 2024/2025. To gain further understanding, I took to investigating EA's earning calls myself to find the related Dragon Age tidbits, and I came across this.
Mike Hickey asked about the next Dragon Age in the works, concerning its a future release. The big man himself, Blake Jorgensen replied to him with the following statement:
"Yes. I mean you should assume that there is Dragon Age out there and we've talked about it publicly that it's in the works, and it probably comes after fiscal '22. But we typically don't give multi-year guidance this early in the year or multi-year guidance period. So I don't want to start giving '23 guidance now that I've started to hit on '22. But you should assume that it's out there and plans are underway for that product as well as some other products."
So, straight from the CFO's mouth, Dragon Age 4's initial release window is somewhere in between late 2022 and early to mid-2023. Potentially even later, there's no date set in stone here, it's more of an expected release. Basically, the game won't be coming out any sooner than Spring, 2022.
Another thing Blake touched on there was "as well as some other products." We could spend all day speculating what the heck that means, but to throw an idea out there, perhaps BioWare are still working on that rumoured Dragon Age: Tactics game? Or they could be working on a Mobile Dragon Age game, or even he could be referring to the Dragon Age Keep.
Regardless, it's EA, of course, they're going to get BioWare to make some companion app or separate thing that can have micro-transactions attached to it.
In any event, we won't be playing Dragon Age 4 up until 2022, whether we'll see trailers and other teasers is unknown. However, at least BioWare seemingly has ample time to create the best Dragon Age game possible, all we can do in the meanwhile is support the dev's as they crack on with delivering an epic Dragon Age title!
Another element within this earnings call talks about EA delivering "fan-favourite remasters." Which is mind-boggling to hear considering EA's hot take on remasters and remakes in the past. They've changed their mind it seems and we can now expect fan favs. It was stated this time last year that a Dragon Age: Origins remaster is a hopeful idea.
And we've all wanted to jump back into the Mass Effect Trilogy since the mess that Andromeda was, so what a better way for Mass Effect to make a come back then to have the trilogy remade for HD graphics, and better controls.
So, I guess we can remain hopeful right? Mass Effect and Dragon Age are both fan-favourite franchises, and N7 Day is just next week? So could we possibly have ourselves a remaster? I can only hope.
That's where I'll leave this one, all in all, the more time spent on Dragon Age 4, the better the game, it's basic math. And we want this game to be it's very finest, so to hear that EA is not rushing BioWare at the current moment, is actually quite amazing in my opinion. Let's hope it remains that way, and if BioWare needs to delay it, EA lets them do that!

Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day to OC Katniss and all of her family & friends. And, of course, to all of the non-fictional N7 ambassadors and other indigenous athletes and leaders who are making sure we know the real history of the land we inhabit and the people who preceded us. (Did you hear about the Braves' decision to curtail distribution of foam tomahawks and the "tomahawk chop" after a Cardinals' pitcher who is a Cherokee? Progress.) Oh, and also, happy Monday. -- ccb
I did hear about it. Although I don’t expect much to change too quickly. *eye roll at all the people yelling it’s tradition or that giving it up is the reason they lost the series to the Cardinals or that it’s a way of honoring NA heritage...* The fact that the Braves are actually, finally attempting to make changes is a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, they cannot control their fans entirely. *sigh* If they thought not handing out the foam tomahawks or not playing the music would 100% prevent the chant from happening, they were sorely mistaken. Gotta start somewhere, though.
Links! For those interested...Here’s the Cardinals player who spoke out. His name is Ryan Helsley, and he’s a 25 year old, rookie pitcher, born in Oklahoma, and -- as you said -- a member of the Cherokee nation. The series played between the Cardinals and the Braves was his first time pitching in Atlanta. Hopefully he will continue to grow and be a solid voice for issues facing the indigenous communities, and not only where it impacts sports. He’s got a big platform.

https://nypost.com/2019/10/14/tribal-chiefs-urge-atlanta-braves-to-end-the-tomahawk-chop/
Now this next guy’s a bit of a dick in some of his phrasing, especially the way he talks about a player from an opposing team, thus the only reason I include the link is because he also talks about the origins of the use of the tomahawk chop in Atlanta Braves games...also he mentions a mascot the Braves no longer use, which shows that the organization is not completely incapable of being culturally sensitive, even if this columnist hasn’t exhibited such a capacity.
https://www.ajc.com/news/local/torpy-large-was-about-time-the-braves-axed-the-tomahawk-chop/SKbBW32Yf0VdP5EhTTeQXK/
In other words, the use of it in Atlanta can actually trace its origins to the Florida State University Seminoles. Basically, there’s a whole other conversation to be had here about FSU as well.
More importantly!

Holiday Harbinger 2019 for @paxveraque
Hi @paxveraque ! I’m your holiday harbinger (thank you @masseffectholidaycheer for organising) I struggled a bit with what to write because I read all about your Cassandra and kind of fell in love with her and her history and wasn’t really sure how to get her tone properly because you write her so well, so I decided to write about Garrus instead who we all know and love and I really hope you enjoy this.
The air is hot, not even a speck of dust was stirring in the standardised meeting room, all grey metal and bright lights. Garrus’ feels like his plates are melting in the stifling room and he struggles to focus. Someone is saying something about the First Contact War but Garrus can only really catch every few words. He hates these kind of training seminars.
History, he thinks, is best left behind.
He wants to be on the range, practicing his shooting. He wants to be reading case files and actually doing something rather than being forced to sit in this room, with its too small chairs that don’t accommodate his talons and learn about how humans fucked up the carefully balanced system the Turians had policed for centuries. It’s happened hasn’t it? Surely the best thing to pay attention to was how to deal with it, what to manage, what to fix, where they go from here.
Garrus hates feeling static.
Finally there is a pause in their lecture for the day, and there is a scraping of chairs and tables as people shift and file out of the room into the C-Sec corridors. He goes out to grab a hot beverage, hoping that this time he doesn’t pick up some Batarian crap by mistake.
“yeah you heard their considering a human spectre?”
He overhears and that stops him right in his tracks because okay, humans are pretty courageous, he’ll give them that, but spectre status? Please. He can’t imagine any human matching up to Nihlus. He lingers a little longer, hoping to hear more, but apparently, it’s just rumour and hearsay and he doesn’t really have time for this.
He heads straight to his office, passing by a group of humans in N7 gear and that is enough to get him to keep watching. The leader of the group has this look in her eye that Garrus recognises somehow, he’s about to stop, about to follow her when someone bumps into him, making him drop his notes.
“Ah, I’m so sorry,” the Asari says, her cheeks blushing a bright pink even through the blue. Garrus shuffles together his papers again and attempts a smile, flaring his mandibles. He adjusts his subvocals despite knowing the Asari won’t get it.
“No problem, have a good day,” and it’s dismissive he knows, but it gets what he wants as she practically runs away and he turns to try find that woman – but too late, they’ve moved on. Oh well. He’s got cases to cover.
Lately, though, he can’t help feeling like he’s on repeat, one thing after another, always the same red tape, always the same forms to fill. His talons itch to dig into something real. He stares at the paperwork on his desk and sighs.
Maybe real wasn’t what he was built for.
-
The job is given to him in hushed whispers, behind closed doors, though the irony of glass partitions does not escape him.
Saren.
They’re not sure they can trust him anymore, and Garrus is handed this like some sort of prize, like investigating their top Turian spectre is a reward he’s gained, as if turning his back on a fellow Turian should make him happy.
Shit, he grew up hearing stories about Saren. He admired him.
But, he’s a good Turian, he says he’ll look into it and when he does…there’s a whole lot of information to find and it makes him kind of sick to the stomach.
As soon as he finds out about Saren it’s like opening a can of worms, he knew there was corruption but what he didn’t know was how incredibly tied his hands would be. It’s like there is a block at every turn and through it all he hears whispers of someone.
Cassandra Shepard.
Something in the way people say her name makes his heart stop, but then he reminds himself that this isn’t some fairytale. This isn’t some story where there’s a hero and they make all the difference.
He’s just a lowly C-Sec officer and she’s just some military hotshot of the week.
But, goddamn, if it doesn’t sound like she’s actually getting shit done.
-
He meets her in a whirlwind of gunfire, she shimmers into view before him coming out of her tactical cloak, a shotgun on her hip.
“Let her go,” she says.
The moment of distraction is all he needs to save the kidnapped doctor they were here for. After that, everything is fast and loud.
She’s a force: focussed, brutal, efficient.
It’s like watching a sniper rifle in action.
Something about it falls into place for him, this is the first time he really feels like something is happening. After months of twisting and stopping at every turn, of chasing Saren around in circles, she shows up and bam. Clear lead. Clear information. He needs this.
He runs after her after everything is done. She’s about to go talk to the council but he stops her before she goes in, he almost feels shy.
“I want to come with you,” he says, all bravado in his voice even though he doesn’t feel any.
When she agrees, he almost doesn’t believe it.
He watches her argue with the council and sees the quiet passion and determination in her stance. There is a calm intensity to her that he can’t take his eyes off and he wonders why the hell the council can’t seem to see it also.
His decision is so easy then, he walks away from C-Sec without any regrets, knowing he’s following the right person.
And as he steps onto the Normandy, its white and black gloss and blue dimmed lights reflecting through his visor he feels it.
The thrum of the engine, the clank of his talons on the runway…this thing here, whatever it is, him following Shepard’s footsteps as she leads the way, her smile as she turns back to welcome him aboard.
This is real.

Behold, the new and improved casual outfit converted from Mass Effect 3! It’s fitted better to the EA body and has cleaned up the textures on the arm detailing.
It’s been a good eight months since I converted this outfit for this game, and in that time, I’ve learned so much. I can align normals on neck vertices in my sleep lol. And this isn’t really a repost since there were less than 100 downloads on the first version. Not a huge loss. So I invoke my right to share a fixed and better version….. NOW.
Details:

As usual, with some poses parts of the mesh can get pointy or distorted. Mainly around the armpit. Fixable through photo editing.
The previous version had the shoes included and now it doesn’t! So no invisible shoes required. Fits a lot of base game and Late Night EP shoes, and shoes that don’t go past the ankle. Probably a good idea for your sim to wear socks.

N7 Month, 2019: Day 10 - Elevator
A visit to Diana Allers always left Shepard just a little bit on edge. She was an important asset in this war, he reminded himself often, but he hated being interviewed, he hated being cross-examined, he hated the cameras. It wasn’t that he wasn’t confident in his actions, or hell, even in his stage presence—his run-ins with Khalisah al-Jilani had proven that much. But with Diana? With the war? The stakes were so much higher. Maybe if he talked sweetly enough to him tonight, Kaidan would agree to be the Normandy’s official liaison to Battle Space. Surely the second human spectre had the clout to speak on war matters, and Kaidan’s overall look and camera presence were—as admitted by Allers, herself—the best on the crew.
Shepard couldn’t wait to ask him, couldn’t wait to see him, in fact. He stepped into the lift, only for EDI to buzz his comms as soon as he reached out to command the elevator up to the Loft.
“Commander, Lieutenant Vega was inquiring about you in the armory. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t trouble you about this. But he did seem distressed.”
“That’s alright, EDI,” Shepard sighed. He pressed the control to take the lift down a level to the shuttle bay. “Any idea what I’m about to get myself into?”
“I’m afraid I cannot say, Shepard.”
The elevator doors opened and there was James Vega, fists clenched, nostrils flared.
“Hey Loco, you mind?” He said as he stepped into the elevator beside Shepard, pressed the ‘close door’ button, followed by the ‘hold’ button.
“Something on your mind, James?”
“You talked to Joker, yet?”
“About?”
James looked down at the floor of the elevator, like he couldn’t meet Shepard’s eyes.
“He said you’re planning on off-loading my weight set, next time we hit the Citadel.”
“He said that, huh?”
“Yeah, said we needed more space for medi-gel crates. I just wanted to give you my side of why we should keep ‘em around. I don’t need to hog ‘em, either: whole crew’s welcome to use ‘em! Wouldn’t mind having a buddy spot me once in a while. Ramirez already uses them, too, and Costa’s been talking about it, too. Just the other day in the mess, I was talking to Garruss—“
“James,” Shepard held a hand up. “When did Joker tell you this?”
“Coupla hours ago.”
“You two were playing poker, right?”
“Yeah.”
“And you were winning?”
“Every time.”
“And that’s when Joker decided to tell you I was getting rid of your weights?”
James squinted at Shepard for a long moment.
“…that son of a bitch.”
“Ship’s got a full bar, Vega,” Shepard said, “I have no problem with your weight set being aboard.”
“Oh. Uh. Well thanks, Loco.”
“Don’t mention it.” Shepard pressed the button to open the elevator door and James slipped out, looking very much calmed down, though muttering under his breath.
“Uh, if you do talk to Joker...” James turned back around. “I maybe said some stuff when I thought you were getting rid of my stuff...”
“No hard feelings, James.” When the doors slid closed, Shepard pressed the control to take him to the loft.
The elevator stopped on Engineering deck, again.
“Keelah, who’s holding up the damn elevator?!” Tali exclaimed when the doors opened.
“Sorry, ended up having a surprise one-on-one with one my crew,” Shepard stepped aside, letting Tali step in. She pressed the button to be let off at the CIC.
“Hope it wasn’t James, he’s been fuming about something all afternoon.”
“Funny, that.”
Tali seemed to think for a moment, then pressed the ‘hold’ button. She turned to Shepard.
“Shepard, I want to ask you a question, but I don’t want to make a big deal out of it, otherwise I would’ve asked to see you in your quarters.”
“My quarters,” Shepard sighed, “Yes. What can I do for you?”
“How do you feel about onboard romances?” She quickly continued, “I know it’s against Alliance regulations, but some of us aren’t Alliance. Still, it’s your ship and I want to just… well, I don’t feel like I have to let you know anything. But it is your ship and you are my friend and—“
“Tali,” Shepard touched her shoulder gently. “Just slow down, okay? Honestly, I couldn’t care less about Alliance regs about fraternization, right now. We’ve all got more important things to be worried about, and if two people can find a connection in the middle of all this, I’m all for it.”
Tali nodded.
“I heard you walked in on Gabby and Kenneth the other day. Adams and I called that one right away.” She laughed somewhat nervously, “And obviously you and Kaidan aren’t exactly living Alliance regs.”
“Uh huh.” Shepard was mirthless in his reply.
“Anyway,” Tali cleared her throat. “Thanks Shepard, just wanted to… wanted to clear the air.” She hit the ‘proceed’ button. “…remember when we used to have all those interesting conversations in the elevators on the Citadel? I miss that. Except whenever Kaidan wanted to talk to me about my culture.”
“Uh huh.”
The doors opened on the CIC and Traynor was standing immediately in front of the doors.
“Oh, Commander Shepard!” She ducked out of the way as Tali fled the lift. She reached out her hand to stop the doors from closing. “I was just about to come looking for you! Save you from Diana, if she was still grilling you on something about the war. I was all set with a story that would pull you into the war room to talk to Admiral Anderson on vidcom.”
“Thanks, but I’m all done down there for today.” Shepard shuffled awkwardly when Traynor did not release the door to the lift. “Is Anderson on vidcom?”
“Hm? Oh, no! I was about this close to calling him up, though. You’d been down there a long time.”
“Well, all’s well that ends well.”
“Maybe… I’ll just pop down and see how Diana is doing, anyway?”
“Be my guest,” then he held up a hand as she started to step in. “If you don’t mind, though, I’m going to head up to bed, first. Mind catching it on the way back down?”
“Oh, certainly! Of course not, Commander.”
The doors slipped shut and the lift began to rise again. Shepard slumped against the back wall of the elevator, letting a deep breath in and out. With his luck, Liara would be waiting for him outside his quarter up in the loft.
But he was luckier than that, after all. The elevator door opened to reveal an empty hallway, and the holo-ring on his door a bright red. A sure sign Kaidan had let himself in.
“Shepard,” Kaidan smiled as he walked in. He wore a pair of loose sleep pants he had borrowed from Shepard’s drawer and a crisp white t-shirt. Barefoot in front of the aquarium, he was already sipping on a finger of whiskey. “Sorry I didn’t wait for you to crack open the bottle, but you were starting to be a while. Figured Diana had you nailed to a wall—“
Shepard stepped forward, hands on either side of Kaidan’s head, pulled him into a deep kiss.
“I’m glad you’re here.”
“Well, I could get used to a greeting like that,” Kaidan grinned, searching Shepard’s eyes. “Long day?”
“Long day. Long elevator ride.”
“Remember all those conversations we used to have on the elevator? Noveria? The Citadel? Awkwardly trying to fill the silence. Wonder how many times I offended Tali, back then.” Kaidan wound a hand around Shepard’s waist, taking another sip of his whiskey with his other.
“I remember, I remember,” Shepard held up his hands in surrender, allowing Kaidan to pull him in.
“I kind of miss cavorting around with you.”
“You wouldn’t believe how boring my Citadel trips are, these days.” Shepard buried his face in Kaidan’s shoulder. “Except when I have a date to look forward to.”
“Mm, maybe we should set one of those up, soon? You look like you could use it.”
“You may not want to see me once I ask you if you’ll handle all the Battle Space interviews from now on…”
“…what?”

N7 Month, Day 18 - Hero
More Allie & Kaidan. You can read it on AO3, if you’d like. . . . . . . HERO (heer-oh)
1. A person noted for courageous acts of nobility or character; 2. a person who, in the opinion of others, has special achievements, abilities, or personal qualities and is regarded as a role model or ideal
If anyone was a textbook definition of the word 'hero', it would be Colonel Allie Lynn Shepard. She would disagree, even after being reminded of her accomplishments – saving the colony on Elysium, taking down Saren, saving the Council and delaying the Reaper invasion, stopping the Collectors, curing the genophage, ending the Morning War and brokering peace between the quarians and geth... When someone would start to rattle off why she was a hero, she would sigh, press her lips together, and remind whomever was speaking that she didn't work alone. There were only a scant handful of times she had to do a mission solo and those were so highly classified no one knew about them anyway. Like Joker admitting he was the best pilot in the fleet, Allie could have easily said she was the best soldier in the Alliance and no one would have batted an eye. Certainly none of the hundreds of people who were gathered at the commemoration event celebrating the tenth anniversary of the end of the Reaper War. Kaidan watched from the wings with some of the Normandy's crew - Joker was with him, as was Traynor, Vega, Cortez, and a few other crew members who served on the Normandy under Allie's leadership. Allie stood right next to him, their fingers interlaced. Every few minutes, she'd give his hand a squeeze. He returned the gesture, knowing it was her way of grounding herself as speaker after speaker talked about their war experience, the small part they played in ending the Reaper cycle. Every single person, though, mentioned how Allie inspired them, gave them the determination to not give up even when it seemed like all hope had been lost. When he glanced at her, her mouth was pressed into a thin line. She really hated these types of events, hated the attention that came with them. As far as she was concerned, she had a job to do. She did it. That was it, end of discussion. She made the comment once that she only showed up to these things because Admiral Hackett gave her a standing order – the only reason she could get away with not showing up was if she was extremely ill, on a mission, or dead. When the last speaker had their say and the applause died down, Hackett started introducing the crew. Allie insisted on that part because it hadn't been just her fighting. It wasn't just her war. She was adamant about the fact she couldn't have accomplished anything if it hadn't been for the people on her crew and demanded they get the same recognition she did. When they announced Kaidan's name, he kissed the back of her hand before walking out onto the stage. Allie's name was always called last and it never took long to remind him why – the applause and cheers were deafening and took several minutes to die down. He watched her walk on stage – head held high, back ramrod straight, a smile on her face as she waved to the crowd as they chanted her name. It wasn't her happy smile, though. Not the one that followed her laughter when Vega told a joke. Not the one that came when she rolled her eyes at Joker's sass. And definitely not the one she flashed him when she caught him staring at her. No, this was her professional smile. The one she wore because she had to. The one she wore when she didn't want other people to know just how unhappy she was.
Kaidan knew her better than that, though. He knew when the accolades were done, the cameras and microphones put away, when things calmed down and it was just the two of them, she'd wrap her arms around his waist, sigh, and give him one of her real smiles. The ones that made his heart melt. The ones that made him fall in love with her all over again. He was counting down the hours until he could get her alone to get one of those smiles. In the meantime, there were more speeches, more awards, more recognition. Photographs, interviews, flashbulbs, autographs. Kaidan's head was reeling and he felt a familiar pressure start to build at his amp. He swore under his breath and rolled his neck, something that had Allie at his side in an instant. “Are you ok?” she asked, studying his face. “You're getting a migraine, aren't you.” It wasn't a question – she knew him well enough to know the subtle changes in his behavior that meant his day was going to go downhill in a hurry. “Kaidan, come on,” she said, linking their arms together, “let's get you out of here and head home.” Kaidan still felt well enough to mingle for a bit longer, but he knew if he did, the pain would be unbearable before they were able to get home. Part of him felt bad for pulling Allie away from everyone, but part of him knew she didn't mind in the least. She always told him he was more important to her than anything, especially when it came to stuff like this ceremony. He nodded his head, and they zigzagged their way across the room, saying their good-byes and offering apologies for the early exit. To her crew and friends, she promised them a get-together the next day to celebrate. Then she and Kaidan ducked into his skycar and headed back to the apartment. By the time they got in the door, Kaidan was feeling more than a little nauseous. He had blind spots in his vision and the pressure at his amp was almost enough to make him cry. He didn't fight or argue when Allie led him upstairs, helped him undress, and got him in the shower. She massaged his back and shoulders, knowing he carried a lot of tension in those muscles and she always thought easing it might help the pain. It seldom did, but he loved her for trying. She made him stay in the bathroom while she turned off the lights in the apartment, save a softly lit floor lamp in the far corner of her bedroom. She sat up in the bed and he curled himself against her, nestling his head against her chest. She played with his hair, humming a lullaby her mother used to sing to her when she was little. The steady rhythm of her heartbeat and the regular rise and fall of her chest gave him something to focus on other than the pain swelling in his head. Allie offered to get him some meds, but he refused because he hated how they made him feel once the pain subsided. Every few minutes, the throbbing would intensify and his whole body would tense. Allie paused her ministrations, nestle her cheek on his head, and make sure he was ok. “You know, you're my hero,” she whispered as the played with his hair. He hummed and nestled against her tighter. “Why?” he asked. “Because of this,” she murmured. 'You've lived with this incredible pain for most of your life but you don't let it keep you down. You would have every right to stay home, curl in a corner, and not do a damn thing, but you somehow power through. You being like this actually helped me when I was in the hospital after the war.” “Really?” he asked. Talking hurt. A lot. But he needed to know what she was trying to tell him. “Mm hmm,” she said, lightly scraping her nails along his back. “When things got really tough, when I was in so much pain I wanted to die, I thought about you and your migraines and how you just... you just did what you needed to do. My mom used to get them and when she did, she couldn't function. All she could do was stay in a dark room and try to sleep. But you... Kaidan the fact that you can do the things you do when your head feels like it's going to explode is nothing short of amazing.” Kaidan smiled and made a happy noise. There was something about hearing the woman he loved, a hero by any definition, refer to him as her hero that made his heart soar.

We used N1.5bn to take care of ourselves as COVID-19 palliative — NDDC MD The acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Kemebradikumo Pondei, has admitted that the commission spent N1.5 billion for staff as ‘COVID-19 relief funds’. He made this statement at the investigative hearing on the N40 billion corruption allegation against the commission. The Senate had on May 5 set up a seven-man ad-hoc committee to investigate the “financial recklessness” of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the commission. The lawmakers said, within the last three months, the commission has spent over N40 billion of the commission’s fund ”without recourse to established processes of funds disbursement which has opened up further suspicion among stakeholders of the Niger Delta Region.” They also faulted the IMC’s ”arbitrary use of executive power in an alleged wrongful sacking of management staff without recourse to established civil service rules and practice with the aim of allegedly concealing the fraudulent financial recklessness they have committed.” Mr Pondei and other delegates from the commission appeared before the committee on Thursday for the hearing. Part of the audit report read out by the chairman of the committee, Olubunmi Adetunmbi, said N3.1 billion was spent as COVID-19 funds between October 2019 and May 2020. In the report, the lawmaker said ”N10 million was paid to one person, N7 million to two people, N5 million to three people, 148 people took N3 million each, 157 people got N1.5 million each, 497 people got N1 million each and 464 people were paid N600,000 each.” Another N475 million was given to the police to purchase face masks and hand sanitisers, he added. Responding to questions regarding the COVID-19 Relief Fund paid to NDDC staff, the MD said ”only N1.5 billion was used to take care of staff” despite being paid their salaries. He explained that part of the fund was for the youth of Niger Delta. ”The youth were given palliatives to help cushion the effect of the pandemic on the people. The youth were idle and to avoid violence, they were paid,” he said. https://www.instagram.com/p/CCc_0TzFq7t/?igshid=mkqf92ry28o

Most Affordable Areas To Buy Studio Apartments & Villas In Dubai
Thanks to towering skyscrapers, endless attractions, and fair pay packages, Dubai has been rated as one of the best cities in the world to live in. Dubai ranks at number nine in Resonance Consultancy’s 2019 World’s Best Cities report – ahead of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Madrid, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, and Sydney.
Dubai is a happening destination that cannot be ignored! It is, therefore, the place to be if one wants to enjoy their social life and their working life in the fast lane. The climate in the emirate for eight months of the year is perfect - Long hot days dominated by cloudless blue skies and enhanced with beautiful warm sea waters. So if one is thinking to buy a studio flat or villa in Dubai and is searching for the most affordable places, here is a list of the same:
Dubai International City
Located near Global Village and Al Warqa’a, across the Dubai Central Fruit and Vegetable Market, Dubai International City is spread over 8.2 sq. Km. It is a uniquely daring architectural development. It is an “International City” in the most real sense and is also home to various tourist attractions. If one is planning to shift from their current residence or is a first-time buyer, here are some of the reasons why getting a studio apartment in Dubai International City could be a great option:
International City embraces the cultural diversity that is typical of Dubai. It caters to people coming from several places, representing diverse backgrounds and cultures in the best possible way. It is not surprising that people living in Dubai International City feel as though they are home.
Located in the heart of Dubai, it is accessible from all areas of the city.
Being close to the Academic City, it is highly accessible to the university students too. They get all the comfort they need in terms of stationery items, books, food, among many others while living in Dubai International City. The convenience factor is one of the most significant advantages of living in International City.
The public bus network is also pretty convenient for the ones who don’t own a car. Though the area is not directly linked to the metro station, it has four bus routes that can take one to popular stations. There are many metro stations near International City Dubai such as Etisalat, Al Nahda, and Al Rashidiya from where one can board respective buses to reach their destinations.
Jumeirah Village Circle
The location of streets and houses creates a unique attraction for Jumeirah Village Circle. There are almost no high buildings here, and this has its refinement since most of the residential areas are built up with high-rise buildings. All buildings are arranged in a circle, and the streets resemble sun rays. Jumeirah Village Circle boasts a broad overview, where the whole sky is visible entirely.
One can find great options at low prices. There are play areas for children to have fun. Moreover, medical centres are also located on the territory. This is an ideal place for a single or family accommodation. Well-groomed streets and neat houses, and landscaped surroundings will surely please one’s eyes!
Furthermore, there is a high probability that one’s neighbours will open a world of a new culture. Additionally, if one wants to visit any entertainment centres, it is just a few miles away. Next, to JVC, there are advanced areas such as Marina and JBR. Therefore, within 10 minutes, one can safely walk to a chic restaurant or amusement park and plunge into fun.
Business Bay
Business Bay is a mixed purpose area, close to the iconic Burj Khalifa and Downtown Area and cradled by the major roads of Sheikh Zayed and Al Khail. It was built to encompass the best of the business world by being close to DIFC’s financial hub. In 2017, with the opening of Dubai Canal, the dream of Business Bay indeed came alive as it was enhanced with the flowing waters from Ras al Khor and the Arabian Gulf blending to form a new iconic Dubai.
Business Bay has comfortable, cosy accommodation options. There are a plethora of studio apartments for rent in Business Bay, and this is clear from the many futuristic designed towers that surround the area. Business Bay has endured many long years of construction, but the results are worth it with well-designed buildings and equally well-designed apartments inside.
For the ones working in Downtown Dubai or DIFC, living in Business Bay is a logical choice. The commute is short, the rentals are more affordable, and the area itself has everything one could need. Additionally, many shops, food outlets, and other retail amenities are readily available.
It is a daunting task to buy a villa or studio flat in Dubai. One can take the help of the real estate company like N7 Real Estate. Their team of passionate industry experts perform extensive research to provide the best services possible. The company take care of all the end-to-end processes involved in selling, buying, renting, and asset management, among others.

Design Research Course Reflection
Course Material Overview
As the course title suggests, this month involved a large amount of research and exploration. The place branding exercise required a reexamination of what I prioritize when “selling” a product or idea. It forced me to stop looking purely looking at all the functional benefits of the product and showed the advantage of looking holistically at multiple facets including the emotional benefits and how, in the case of place branding in particular, the residents, what they represent and the feelings conjured up and associated with the area all combine to provide insight into how to best position the brand (IDEO, 2015).
Brand equity was another concept presented this month that immediately clicked in my mind and has proven invaluable in both better understanding the current positioning and value of my chosen location, but I have also been able to use it to better inform the work I do at my job. I was recently able to uncover valuable insights into the best target audience choices for a rebranded product by taking a deep dive into that brand’s current equity, differentiators and customer base which resulted in an effective pitch and happy clients.
The effective combination of primary, secondary and tertiary sources, has also proven a useful tool in furthering the effectiveness of my work and I will take many of the methods, both new and tweaked forward into my degree and career beyond. Interviews have always been something I have shied away from and so I fear I got caught up trying to plan them perfectly, however, one insight I did uncover, which proved especially effective, was pre-tailoring many of my questions to an array of demographics I thought would provide a fair spread of opinion and unique information (Briggs, 1986). Having differentiated question sets meant I went in more confident and was able to adapt more easily, putting the interviewee at ease and allowing me to explore deeper questions that might have otherwise been possible (Weiss, 1994).
