I’ve run a dedicated server for my site for years but everything was set up for me.

Its come to end of life now so I’ve just signed up to an IBM Cloud VPS. Most of it seems pretty OK to get my head around but i’m a bit baffled about DNS/nameservering

So my domain is held by 123-reg.

From what I can tell… its currently set to their nameservers.. but with the DNS A records pointing to the IP address of my server.

SO on my new Cloud server… I’ve been given the providers nameservers ( ns1.softlayer.com and ns2.softlayer.com )

But when I set up WHM on my server its also created me my own nameservers (Say.. ns1.myvps.cloud ns2.myvps.cloud )

Been googling but everywhere seems to throw me in different directions.

Which nameservers should I be using ?

And where do I set the DNS A record ? Does this have to be with 123-reg as the domain is with them ?

My initial idea is to set the nameservers to the IBM default ( ns1.softlayer.com ) and then point to the IP address in the 123-reg Advanced DNS panel. But would that even work ??
