Ive picked up on your love of mythology so im just gonna throw the idea of a psyche and Cupid leosagi AU and run
Okay I love this, but there are two ways this can go. I’m just going to story board for now.
#1
Leo is psyche.
Beautiful yet lonely (lives in the sewers) is told that he will fall in love with a monster. (Samurai and ninja are ancient enemies. One might describe the other as monsterous) so Leo separates himself from his brothers
He is taken to live with Usagi. (The main part of the myth is that psyche can’t look upon Eros so maybe their are disguise involved or something) any how the two end up together.
Leo’s bros show up and want to take Leo home. And maybe Leo goes to tell him good bye or maybe Leo tells them he can’t leave (will flesh out later) either way he has to go talk to Usagi’s
Cue the dramatic separation and leo being tasked to prove himself worthy of being Usagi’s husband/boyfriend.
Note: this would not be to Usagi. Psyche has to prove herself to Aphrodite, so maybe have Katsuichi or Lord Mifune in this role. Usagi is ready to forgive him right way.
#2
Usagi is psyche.
Once again beautify talented samurai. Told he will fall in love with a monster
(Samurai would defiantly categorize ninjas as monsters)
He is separated from his village and stumbles his way into Leo’s home (either in Usagi’s world or in New York. It I feel like making this all part of Usagi’s world might be fun) he is taken in and treated well but never sees his hosts (ninjas sneaking around)
He eventually falls in love with Leo, and vise versa. (Maybe Leo starts leaving notes with any food or supplies they leave for him, and Usagi starts writing back. At first it’s just to say thank you, but it soon devolves into talking. Talking turns into love letters and poems.)
Any way maybe some of Usagi’s friends come to visit him and ask about the mysterious house owners Usagi has never seen. They worry that he is in danger and encourage him to go and sneak into his host bedroom. He doesn’t like it (sneaking like a ninja! No!) but his curiosity wins and he does so.
He finds out Leo is a ninja and betrayal! How could his lover be a ninja?
Maybe some hurtful things are said but it ends with Leo fleeing.
Usagi realizes his mistake and tries to find him but instead he runs into Leo’s three brother and his father. All very upset. (And you can throw April and Casey in there as well but the original myth has four trials) each gives him an impossible task to complete before they will let him see Leo. (Again Leo has already forgiven him it’s the family that holds grudges)
Anyway Usagi has to go in an epic quest to prove his love for Leo.
I think the Usagi as Psyche works out the best. I think it lines up better as the ninjas sneaking around fills in the invisible plot point better then Usagi wearing disguise (I can’t see him doing it) it’s also fun to have all of the brothers give Usagi huge tasks.
I love the idea of Usagi showing up at their door like “I will do anything to win him back”and them responding with “anything okay here’s impossible task.” And then after they send him on his way they go inside to a heart broken Leo who doesn’t know Usagi wants him back and they go to him like “Usagi was not a good fit for you, you can do better.” And just keeping it up until Usagi shows that he means it when he says he loves Leo.
I also love that this idea works in both the 2003 style and the rise style. In 2003 Leo is a master ninja just sneaking around and in rise he’s got the portals to help him out.
Over all great au I might have to tackle when I have time.

On the morning of August 19th 1966, the merchant marine vessel Pelican unloaded its cargo into the port of Los Angeles. Recently declassified information about the Pelican’s ship manifest confirms that the ship was carrying experimental materials for a nascent project Clover. Of the 425 drums of material, only 424 were accounted for.
While government officials have not confirmed exactly what was in the lost barrel, its contents are believed to be approximately 55 gallons of an experimental substance similar to LSD.
To anyone with a passing interest in the 1970’s music scene, this will not come as news. Tall tales of a lost ship full of experimental drugs were as common as disco, though the stories have been exaggerated. The most common form of the story features a drunk crane operator loading a shipping crate onto the wrong train, though in reality it was only a single barrel that went unaccounted for. The more outlandish forms of the legend include everything from a daring heist by a crew of rocker-pirates to shadowy government entities vanishing the entire ship for their own nefarious purposes.
The reality was a simple logistical mixup, a mistake that can be tracked back to a simple addition error on an inventory sheet, an ordinary yet deeply embarrassing mistake on part of the government. Additionally, The information that revealed the lost barrel came alongside a report detailing project clovers lost asset tracking protocol. Protocol that reads as comically naive in hindsight, with guidelines including “monitoring local jazz bars” or keeping an eye out for “feminist thought.” With the benefit of retrospective, it is no surprise that agents were not able to track the barrel.
Declassification of the Pelican’s manifest prompted an unexpected crossover with another niche legend of the 1970s Los Angeles music scene: the disappearance of the Knights of Altonia.
Even today, many consider the Knights of Altonia to be a myth, but scant references to their existence can be found. According to a review from a 1977 issue of Jam! Magazine, the Knights of Altonia were a “D-List psychedelic glam metal outfit with more style than skill, known more for their disappearance than their music.” Though a 1997 retrospective from Tempo calls them “A band too ahead of their time to be properly appreciated” noting their flamboyant stage costuming and its significant influence on the aesthetics of the genre.
To the frustration of music historians seeking to separate fact from fiction, the band featured an elaborate mythology, with each member claiming to be a “Wizard-Knight of the Mystic Tower” who traveled from their world to ours “on a journey through the Nine Realms to find the secret stone.” This has been the source of innumerable urban legends around the band. A common joke among hobbyist historians at the time claimed that the Knights did not vanish, but simply “returned to the Nine Realms.” Information on the band is so muddled that many music historians doubt their existence entirely. In fact, the only confirmed, physical evidence of the band’s existence is a photograph at the bottom of the Jam! Review, it features:
Lead singer and guitarist Donald Hawkins as his stage persona “Zozimos the Wise.” He sports a mane of dreadlocks, and a classic blue wizard hat and robe decorated with yellow stars. The robe is worn open to reveal Donald’s bare chest, along with velvet short-shorts and a pair of thigh-high leather boots. The article states that the glittery bright purple guitar in his hands was named “Excelsior.”
Rhythm guitarist Jon Todachine as “Wan the Witch King.” He wears a deerskin jacket, also open at the front, decorated with what appear to be crow feathers and small animal bones. The theme of bones continues to his belt buckle, which features an as-of-yet unidentified animal skull. This figure is presumed to be Jon, although it should be noted that the broad hat he wears features a curtain of beads that obscures his face.
Bassist Riley Knox as “Chulainn the Horned.” He wears a full deer skull, along with a lit candle that appears to be slowly melting down over the mask. Most of his upper body is obscured by what appears to be a cloak of leaves. Beneath the cloak he appears to be wearing a pair of Nike Blazers.
Drummer Marcus Wilson as “Magnus Fire-Weaver.” He wears a viking helmet over intricately braided red hair, a chain-maille loincloth, a pair of medieval bracers on his wrists, and nothing else.
Most notably, a speaker on stage left is placed upon a large steel drum identical to the ones used by project clover.
Study is ongoing.

No way I just saw a divulgative channel say that in the "original" (talking about the odyssey) Odysseus has kids with Calypso and Circe.
I don't want to sound rude or anything but I'd expect you to have read the book you're making content on. Because some people that haven't read it either might take your statement as fact, and that's just spreading misinformation
Just to be clear, there are sources where those things happen, sure. They are as valid a source as the odyssey is. However, I've seen a fair bit of conflating different myths, which can help us get a larger view of the characters, for example what Odysseus does before and after the Iliad. But the thing is the Odyssey never mentions stuff like Astyanax or Iphigenia. Does this mean these never happened to the Odysseus we see in the Odyssey? Not necessarily, but it doesn't necessarily mean they did, they are from external sources.
I think it's good that we talk about mythical figures spanning many sources, but I also think when talking about a specific source we should stick to it (I'm not saying we can't fill in some blanks, but we should be conscious of what is explicitly in the text and what isn't). In a story external to the Odyssey Penelope sleeps with the suitors, but we don't say "Well Penelope slept with the suitors in the Odyssey", because that's not the case. In other stuff sure, that's as valid as discussing the Odyssey, but please if you're spreading information online be mindful of these mixups
#homer#classics#the odyssey#odysseus#sorry if this makes no sense#we can say odysseus had kids#just not that he had kids in the odyssey#if that makes sense

Since you are a purveyor of odd Hamilton takes... Came across this in American Military Biography (1830) by Amos Blanchard:
I had assumed the "orphan Alex" narrative was there from the start (and maybe this is just a very badly researched book), but that made me wonder when that actually became the default version of the story.
(Also how can you be an orphan with a living parent anyway...?)
I love my curated collection of odd Hamilton takes...some of them are printed out on a dart board so I can skewer them to hell along with the corresponding historian's picture but the ones I agree with are 100% accurate and concrete facts.
And thank you so much for sharing, this is really interesting! My first thought was maybe Blanchard was aware of Ann Mitchell, Hamilton's cousin. She lived in America for several years, may have been his major benefactor, and he singled her out in his final letters, entreating Betsey to treat her well.
From a quick search it seems unlikely she accompanied him (Allan McLane Hamilton thought they never met in America), but perhaps the knowledge of a maternal figure helping Ham was public at the time, and the author rolled with "mother"? I stumbled on a paper from 1952, "Alexander Hamilton: The Fact and Fiction of His Early Years" by Larson that addresses the popular myth that Hamilton received help from two friendly aunts; apparently there was an aunt Ann Lytton who died before all of this, separate from the actual helper: Ann Lytton Venton Mitchell, Hamilton's cousin. Not sure how far back that mixup goes, but maybe this author heard about this mother who was actually an aunt who was actually a cousin through the grapevine. Christ.
This did get me thinking about how I've never dug into Rachel's death because it seems like such a concrete incident. There is the 1768 probate court transaction available on founders online for anyone looking for easy access but now I'm having a second hand existential crisis. Maybe Hamilton was actually chilling with his very alive mother who is so confused rn.
I also assumed the orphan narrative thing was present from the start. From what I know, the "lacks good parentage, native land, and money" aspect was always subtly present (which is in itself honestly misleading, he was very privileged. but it makes sense since he's beefing with the elite who can use that relative disparity against him). but maybe the "all alone in the world with nobody to help him" aspect was not.
I'm considering the various examples of people being shady, like Jefferson writing that Ham is a man who "from the moment at which history can stoop to notice him, is a tissue of machinations against the liberty of the country which has not only recieved and given him bread, but heaped it’s honors on his head". This was a letter to Washington of all people, so maybe this indicates that there was some general understanding of Hamilton's background as lacking that allowed him to say all this even in consideration of his frustrations. Newspapers alluded to it. In 1800: "And you might find yourselves equally mistaken, in supposing, that the mode of your descent from a dubious father, in an English island would be no bar in this country to the pretensions to the Presidency."
So clearly there's some aspect of the lowborn narrative peeking through, but I think it would make sense for people to believe & say that he came from questionable, middling backgrounds, but still not see him as an orphan. His childhood wasn't happy or stable by any means, but he still had some support from family and benefactors going for him in America. And he never let go of his deadbeat dad for all the good that did him so he probably didn't refer to himself as an orphan. He didn't even like people thinking of him as lower-class, ("I have better pretensions than most of those who in this Country plume themselves on Ancestry") so I'm sure he didn't embrace the Charles Dickens characterization.
I dunno, maybe it's later historians who dug into Ham's insecurities, feelings of isolation expressed in certain letters, and his elusive background to complete the orphan narrative.
If anything, I suppose this further shows just how far back ambiguities about Hamilton's origins go. Blanchard also claims that Hamilton was born on St. Croix, and apparently there's some modern speculation that he wasn't even born on Nevis. 1830 isn't too far off from Hamilton's death; what book/person did Blanchard consult, if he even did, for this info? I also know that Adams referred to Hamilton as the "Scottish Creolian of Nevis", so Adams must've heard from a different source that Ham wasn't originally from St. Croix. So confusing.
But anyways, thank you so much for sharing this with me - I'm so bad at finding old resources, and I would've never learned that some doofus wrote about Hamilton with - gasp - a nondead parental figure.
Hope you're having a great day! :)

félix and flairmidable as pandora’s myth
because i'm thinking about parallels between them again. this started a month ago:
(plain text in alt. i'm referencing hesiod's myth of pandora in theogony and works and days both because it's the original or, more accurately, oldest surviving account and because it's the one i'm most familiar with.)
briefly, the myth is as follows. after zeus denies mortals the gift of fire, prometheus hides it in a fennel stalk and gives it to them anyway. he is punished with the classic eternal liver eagle situation, at least until herakles rescues him, while mortals are punished with our lovely lady.
hephaistos and several other gods are recruited to create pandora, the first woman. under instruction from zeus, hephaistos sculpts her divine features from clay, athene teaches her craft and weaving, aphrodite gives her grace and desire, and hermes gives her a "dog-like, shameless mind and thieving ways . . . deceits and wheedling words, the habits of a thief." she is named pandora, meaning 'all gifts.'
hermes brings pandora to epimetheus, who weds her, forgetting the warning his brother prometheus had given him against receiving gifts from the gods. pandora has a pithos or greek jar with her containing all of the evils of mankind, and she opens its lid, releasing every spirit within but one: elpis, or hope. elpis stays within the pithos, trapped by the lid pandora has once again closed.
pandora's myth is an etiology or mythological explanation of evil, sickness, human labor, and toil. in a way, to félix, the miraculous are an etiology of the same. why does he feel compelled to obey orders even when they are unfair? why are his feelings troubled whenever he finds something that brings him joy? why is he hurt, blamed, unloved? why does his life seem to be linked to a ring? for him, the miraculous are the answer.
more clearly, pandora is made in the image of men and goddesses and instilled with a devious nature. félix is made in the image of adrien, and by definition their mothers, and he surfaces with a clever, trickster-y nature as well. both are gifts, and both are punishments. the only mixup is which one comes from and goes to whom.
pandora's pithos, funnily also referred to as pandora's box, becomes the miracle box in this story. félix opens the pithos by giving all of the miraculous inside to monarque, leaving only hope, or the miraculous of the peacock. he wears the miraculous of the dog while he does this, with the dog-like thieving ways hermes gave pandora.
with this, the golden age of mankind ends, and an age of toil begins. the released spirits or kwami become the plagues of mankind, such that their concepts replace the names of akumas and sentimonsters as antagonists of paris. and hilariously, the age of toil is the fifth age of mankind hesiod describes, just as the season after félix opens his pithos is the fifth season.
(as an aside, many scholars draw parallels between pandora, made of clay, and her pithos, made of the same. with the miracle box as félix's pithos, félix as a child of magic might mean something new.)
pandora releases every spirit but hope. the meaning of this has always been unclear. was hope meant to be an evil? was its imprisonment meant to be a blessing or a curse? certainly félix wants to keep duusu with him, as elpis with pandora. hope and a weapon, a spirit like her siblings, all at once. and his exchange of the miraculous inspired as much debate about his intentions, origins, and consequences. i don't have answers to the questions about pandora, but with félix in mind, i can raise some more.
both pandora and félix were created the way they were by someone else's hand. for someone else's reasons, with someone else's guiding force, seen or unseen. when pandora opened the pithos, was this an act of free will? what about when she closed the lid? what did she feel keeping elpis inside? was it her fault for being pursued by her nature? could it have been a choice?
the same questions can be asked about félix. his narrative is one of grappling with autonomy. the threat of nonexistence dogs his every footstep. was trading the miraculous a choice or a necessity? was his deception the only natural next step of the life he was made to live? was he free for the first time when the miraculous of the peacock entered his hands? did he feel regret obtaining it? did he feel relief?
in the end, as with all stories, there is room for interpretation. there are countless versions of pandora's myth, because the story changes with the authors, with the culture, and with the meaning of hope. so too for félix's story. he writes his myth himself.

Half-seraph Watchdog of Babyls
Kenyizsu's First Law: Everything that receives my undivided attention shall be redesigned into a fantasy setting sooner or later.
Kenyizsu's Second Law: If said receiver of undivided attention is from a fantasy show.... it is still getting a fantasy redesign. Did I stutter?!
---
Normally, the term "half-breed" (or more the vulgar "tar blood") refers to a demon whose one parent is from a well-established clan, while the other is from a "No Name" family. Usually they are also born out of wedlock, bringing their clan a flood of bad PR, gossip, and an ugly stain on their family tree. Thankfully in these peaceful civilized times in the Netherworld, most such half-breed children get to live to adulthood, even if their life path aren't as smooth as those of their full-blooded relatives.
Nobody could have possibly guessed that Professor Kalego - orderly, strict, aloof and old-fashioned Professor Kalego Naberius - would be a half-breed. And his mother is not even from a "No Name" family, but straight out of legends that were on the brink of fading away into history.
After all... angels were only supposed to be stories.
---
I like to think that angels for the Netherworld of Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun are like the old gods for our world. Very few people might believe and worship them still, but the overwhelming majority thinks of them as fun stories, ancient myths, basis for fantasy fiction. The only twist is that angels are an actual thing - they just haven't been around in the Netherworld for a couple dozens of millennia, after the demons finally calmed down and started on the path of actual civilization.
Now, full disclaimer: this design is NOT headcanon! In this house we strictly operate by the rule that headcanons cannot harm the actual timeline/storyline/worldbuilding of the story they are from. Angels have yet to be mentioned in the anime, they are non-existent in the worldbuilding. From what I can tell from glimpses into the manga, Kalego clearly has a "full-blooded" Naberius family (although I don't think the mother is ever mentioned?), no mixup around his lineage.
This design is merely for fun, and to work my creative muscles after a brief artblock :) One more sheet is coming with the details.

OH I CAN TELL YOU MORE 🤭 First and foremost, someone asking to hear more of my silly ideas is like CRACK so ty. And also part of this silly little backstory is courtesy of the brilliant @dkmbookworm The premise basically is founded upon the fact there was a nymph Penelope (Pan's biological mother in some myths and in this au) and there's obviously the Queen of Ithaca Penelope, both whom Hermes would have knowledge of because one is his baby mama and the other, Odysseus won't shut up about. (In some myths, Penelope of Ithaca is Pan's mother but that conception story is extremely upsetting and it also involves her getting sent back to her father's when Odysseus returns so we just threw that out the window) This busy busy god when his son is born, goes to visit him, takes him for some 15 seconds of father-son bonding while he's running his errands, and when it comes time to return him, drops him off with the wrong Penelope. He is moving so fast that he doesn't even notice, and Penelope of Ithaca, who was just minding her own business on her balcony, yearning for her husband, feels a gust of strong wind and suddenly gets the newborn god of the wild dropped into her arms. That silly little mixup, in turn, is how we get Pan and Telemachus as brothers and also how we get plenty of juicy ✨conflict✨ between Pan existing as a buckwild nature god and being raised within the confines of a palace as a prince, expected to behave as one. I did another doodle with some added hcs about it linked here 🤭
Your honor, I am obsessed with the alternate universe where Telemachus and Pan are brothers

Chthonic kid Headcanons
(This is specifically about Nico, Lou Ellen, and Clovis bc I love them and I said so)
Also inspired by @glassamphibians post about Nico and Lou Ellen
They are all complete nerds who will never miss an opportunity to infodump and theorize
They have weekly Mythomagic game nights. Frank is invited
After BoO, Lou Ellen sits Nico down and demands to know all about his shadow magic
When she hears about the dream stuff, she gets in a frenzy and brings Clovis into it
Clovis and Nico teach her about dream magic
Once she's decently good enough at it, they switch most of their conversations to dream stuff in order to make Clovis more comfy <3
Lou Ellen also teaches the others about Mist magic. Clovis is surprisingly adept at it. Nico is not mainly because he can't gt his head around the tricking people thing
Nico teaches the other two about shadow travel. Clovis finds it very similar to dream magic and it pretty good at it, but he decides it's not for him. Too many things he could get lost in forever if he isn't careful
Lou Ellen on the other hand, is determined to get the shadow travelling thing right
She runs into a few walls. Turns into a rat once (she's still not sure how that happened). Scars a regular mortal family by tumbling out of the shadows in front of them and accidentally dissipating the Mist in her disorientation
But she finally gets the hang of it
Does she use it in battle? Never. She's doesn't believe in strategy and sneak attacks, she believes in charging forward with a battle cry and turning her enemy into very cute pigs
Does she use it for pranks and jumpscares? All the time. (Will almost stabbed himself with a scalpel once because of it. He also ruptured the stitches on Paolo's arm)
She and Clovis also insist that Nico tell them all about the Roman gods
Clovis in particular has a lot of theories about split personalities and multiple pantheons and he NEEDS to know if they are true
Little do they know, the Romans are not the only pantheon Nico di Angelo knows about
(He has definitely visited that one New Orleans graveyard. Also MCGA implies that inter-pantheon mixups are pretty common and iirc TKC says all the afterlives are connected and I am running with it)
So Nico tells them all about the Egyptians and the Norse and maybe even the Etruscans (I'm not sure where in the timeline that fits and how it goes down but whatever)
When they other two learn that there's only one remaining Etruscan god because all the others have faded, they immediately agree to help Nico dig up all the Etruscan myths they can find in order to keep the religion alive as long as possible.
They also start a mythology class in CHB that's specifically devoted to learning about gods and myths of other pantheons. They're not sure how many of them actually exist, but just in case they do, it doesn't hurt to show a little respect and keep their myths alive
(Zeus is not particularly happy about this, but Apollo, as the god of knowledge, says that the spread of knowledge is something he must safeguard and therefore he encourages their academic ventures. As the gods closest to Pan, Hermes and Dionysus support him)
Nico is particularly passionate about this little project, because seeing a god die with his own eyes, not even a year after learning that they exist had a great effect on him. Also he sort of blames himself for it in a weird subconscious way and this is his way of dealing with it
(Of course I had to include some angst, why am I like this)
Ending with fluff, Lou Ellen comes up with elaborate scenes to get Nico into the Hypnos cabin, where Clovis is waiting to put him to sleep and make sure he gets peaceful, undisturbed rest, preferably without any dreams involved

Ok, you and that anon that threw the Payche and Eros AU at you have me curious. I’m a huge fan of Greek mythology - hyper-fixated on it during MS and HS, ironically not because of the Percy Jackson series - and want to know how you’d work a Hades and Persephone AU with Leosagi? Because I have an idea of if it was a Draxum raised Leo kind of deal (and yes, I’m totally implying Leo as Persephone in that thought), but I wanted to know how you’d work it?
Hades and Persephone is one of my favorite myths.
I’m bring it in two flavored today.
2003 Leosagi
Usagi is Persephone.
He lives in a world where he can walk around and have a normal life. He is a samurai and is well known and well liked.
He meets Leo and the two fall for each other.
But they are from different worlds.
Everyone wants Usagi to forget about Leo. He is a ninja which means he is dangerous and he is from a ‘dark world’ (New York is so dark in that cartoon)
But Usagi so stubborn and goes after him any way. The two eventually start dating but Usagi can’t stay forever, he has duties in his own world.
Cue the six month arrangement.
Rise Leosagi.
Leo is Persephone.
The magic powers, the bright happy city, the loving but over protective family.
Accidentally opens a portal into Usagi’s world.
Stumbles into him. The two fall in love but Leo’s family don’t want him galavanting in another worlds.
Maybe Leo accidentally gets cursed and has to stay in Usagi’s world for 6 months.
Rise leans it self better to the boys having powers
You could also just make the rise boys into full gods with different powers and abilities.
Leo could easily be spring, Mikey summer, Donnie fall, and Raph winter. You could have a lot of fun with this very quickly.
Bonus flavor
2003 reverse
Leo is Persephone.
Over protective parent that shields them all from the world.
The brothers sneak out one day (maybe they live in Usagi’s world already or maybe Donnie built a portal machine “dad said no to the surface not other dimension.”) but they run into Usagi.
They are all extremely wary of him at first but he does a good job at trying to make them feel safe and comfortable.
Splinter eventually comes to fetch his sons and he forbids them from going to Usagi’s world again.
Cue Leo and his brothers sneaking out to see Usagi.
Leo and Usagi fall in love and Usagi starts looking for a way to allow Leo and his family to stay in his world. (Maybe their is no battle nexus and he has no way to follow them to their world) and he comes across the pomegranate.
He tells Leo his idea and of course Leo wants to stay but he would never let his brother try a potentially dangerous plan without him doing it first.
This is how Leo eats the pomegranate seeds and now has to remain in Usagi’s world for six months.
The brothers are a little peeved as they don’t like the idea of Leo being trapped but they always follow him there any way.
I have a lot of different ideas for this. But mainly it depends on the version and how heavily you want to actually base it on the myth. New York being hades is so funny to me.

Welcome to Paris, Fur-ance Ch 3: Kitsunes, Flea Markets, and Scheming
Nazuna explains some things to Kagami and her mother and gets some explanations in return.
Meanwhile, Shirou gets to do his thing and starts searching for his charge and her friend.
The staff of the Tsurugi household could be considered both exceptionally efficient, and indescribably unflappable. It was due to those traits that the servants didn’t even bat an eye at the sudden addition to the household’s occupants. It was Kagami’s posture that let them know the police wouldn’t be needed, as she lacked the degree of tension they would have expected, should this other girl have been unwelcome. Doubly so for Mistress Tsurugi herself. Blind or not, had this extra guest been a threat, Tomoe would have had her at swordpoint by now.
Which is why they did nothing to disturb the three as they sat in the living room, discussing the situation over tea.
Setting down her cup, Tomoe’s face scrunched in thought. “So, you’re from a place called Anima City, which is located just off the coast of the Japanese mainland?”
Nazuna nodded after she had a small sip of tea. “That’s right.”
Kagami looked at her ears as they twitched through the long pink hair. “And you’re a... beastman?”
“Yep.” Nazuna smiled and raised an eyebrow at Kagami. “I’m surprised you haven’t heard of us. Pretty much the whole world knows about beastmen. Or is Paris truly that isolated right now?”
Looking down at her tea, Kagami grimaced. “I am truly sorry, Hiwatashi, but-”
“Nazuna.”
Startled, Kagami raised her head to look at Nazuna again. “W-what?”
Raising a hand gently, Nazuna kept smiling. “If it’s okay with you, just call me Nazuna.”
Blushing a bit, Kagami nodded. “R-Right,” Kagami muttered before she took a moment to clear her throat. “Nazuna, I’m not sure how to tell you, but the closest thing I have ever heard of Beastmen would be in fictional stories and myths.” Nazuna’s eyes widened as Kagami continued. “I thought you were a Kitsune when you appeared in our living room.”
Nazuna’s eyes moved to her own fuzzy hands, and a melancholy smile fell onto her face. “There are days I wonder that myself.”
Tomoe raised an eyebrow as she turned slightly from her tea. “Why would you? Were you not born this way?” Kagami winced a bit at her mother’s bluntness, but Nazuna looked relatively unfazed.
Staring down at her tea, Nazuna looked like she was starting to get lost in memories as she gently shook her head. “I know this may come as a shock, but I used to be a normal, everyday human.”
Kagami didn’t know she could get more surprised. “Really?”
Tomoe’s voice carried a small hint of steel. “Those are very steep claims, Ms. Hiwatashi. Especially after having felt your hands myself.”
Sighing, Nazuna set her cup down as she looked up. “I know, so please, let me explain.”
Nazuna took a deep breath to calm herself as she picked her tea back up. “About a year and a half ago, I was meeting up with my friend on the way to school, when a bus failed to stop in time, and we ended up in an accident. My arm was shattered, and my friend’s leg was actually worse. The damage was bad enough; we needed surgery to have a chance at a normal life afterward. We both had to get blood transfusions as a result, which would be completely normal in any other situation.”
She paused to take a sip before she continued. “That was where our lives, unfortunately, took a turn. It was due to a mixup with the blood packs that we were given something other than our blood type. Instead, it was a regent of beastman blood that was being used to test experimental drugs. Nobody noticed it had even happened, and we went on with our lives as normal. Until one day, after we were better and I had managed to land an audition,” Nazuna gestured to herself and smiled sadly, “this happened, right where everyone could see. I didn’t even get through the day before I was being loaded into a van and taken away from everything I knew.”
The sight of Nazuna’s sorrow was heartbreaking, and at that moment, Kagami envied her mother’s blindness. She wanted to know what was causing such pain but wasn’t sure if she should ask. When she couldn’t think of anything else, she decided to bite the bullet. “Can you not change back?”
“I sort of can. I can make myself look human again.” Nazuna took a moment to breathe before in a pink flash that rippled up her body, she shifted back into human form; pink hair turning orange except for a red streak in the front. “But on a genetic level, I’m still a beastman. This is just a disguise I can use.”
Tomoe spoke up with a frown. “And your friend? Did they?”
Nazuna nodded, then remembered that Tomoe was blind and blushed. “Yes, she turned into a beastman too. It happened only a day or two after me, but I didn’t find out until a few months ago. Though, instead of a fox, she turned into a tanuki.” An amused giggle escaped her lips as a memory came up. “It’s kind of fitting, considering her more eccentric personality. Always rushing into situations and jumping to conclusions without thinking ahead. There was one time when she tried to transform back into a human by putting a leaf on her head doing a backflip. Everyone still teases her about that.”
________________________________________________________________
Roaming a random street in Paris, Michiru sneezed hard enough; she almost lost her human disguise. “Someone’s talking trash about me, I just know it... Probably Marie. Stupid weasel-mink hustler.”
________________________________________________________________
“I see.” A rare smile came to Tomoe’s lips as she hummed. “You sound very fond of this friend.”
Nazuna’s face sobers as she nods. “I am. Michiru is like the sister I never had. She was the only friend I had growing up, and she supported me so much, even when I told her about my impossible dream of becoming an Idol. We did everything together.” Sighing, she slumps back into her seat, turning to look at the door leading out of the room. “Which is why I hope she’s alright.”
The three sat in silence for a while. Tomoe respected the need for a break, and Kagami was unsure what to say. At least she was able to gain a name for this friend of Nazuna’s. Michiru. She certainly doesn’t sound mature from what Nazuna said.
It was Tomoe that started the conversation anew, breaking Kagami from her thoughts. “I take it this has something to do with how you got here?” She pulled out the dart that had once been stuck in Nazuna and placed it on the table.
Nazuna’s face fell as she looked down at the dart. “That’s correct. We were on the rooftop of a skyscraper when this strange man attacked us. He was wearing a full-body suit and a mask that hid his face entirely. He said he needed our ‘assistance’ for something, but when we told him no-.” She trailed off, glancing away from the dart and holding one of her arms.
Kagami looked at her with concern before putting a finger across her lips in thought. “Could this have been an Akuma’s doing?”
Raising an eyebrow, Nazuna looked over at the fencer. “Paris has demons running free?”
Tomoe chuckled a bit at that before standing. “It seems it is our turn to explain some things.” gesturing for them to follow, Tomoe led them out of the room and down the halls. “To answer your question, yes and no. We of Paris currently have a problem with a man calling himself Hawkmoth. He has been abusing power, powers he should not have, to create Akumas, which he then sends out to seek Someone with negative emotions. When they do find Someone, they give them frightening abilities and warp their mind into committing evil acts and obeying Hawkmoth’s orders.” They paused for a moment at the front door, Tomoe nodding, and one of the assistants bowed before walking away. “Our family, like many, have felt this touch before.”
Kagami looked down with a grimace as she tried not to look at Nazuna. “I am ashamed to admit that I was Akumatized twice so far. Both times, it was Ladybug and Chat Noir that had to bring my rampage to an end.”
As a car pulled up and the passenger door opened on its own, Nazuna looked to Kagami with confusion. “Ladybug and Chat Noir?”
Kagami nodded and gave a small smile. “The protectors of Paris. They use ancient artifacts known as Miraculous to give themselves superhuman power, and use that strength to protect this city. It is actually the same pair of Miraculous they use that Hawkmoth seeks, as every Akuma under his control demands them.”
Nazuna wasn’t sure how to appropriately respond, so she just looked at the city that sprawled before them and picked up her jaw. “And here I thought Anima City was lively.”
“Indeed. However, this is where I must cut our conversation short. I have business I must attend to.” Stepping into the car, Tomoe sat in the first seat but held up a hand when the two girls tried to follow her in. “Kagami, do your best to assist Ms. Hiwatashi. If her friend was with her when she was brought here, it is likely they are somewhere in Paris as well and will be unable to communicate with anyone.”
Kagami bowed to her mother and smiled. “Yes, Mother. I will do my best.”
Tomoe’s car pulled away, and the two stood looking out at the city. “You know, I always wanted to come to Paris one day. I thought any chances of that had been ruined when-” Nazuna’s face fell as dread washed over her. “Oh, no... I just remembered Michiru hates transforming into a human. Knowing her, she’s probably running around with her tail out.”
“With her-? Oh, you mean she’s still a tanuki.” As Nazuna nodded, Kagami frowned in concern. “That... might cause a panic.”
“We should find her before she gets into any trouble.”
“Agreed.”
________________________________________________________________
Whatever Shirou had expected when he tackled his perp, it certainly wasn’t this.
Shifting back down to being merely a wolfman and not a full-blown wolf, Shirou sighed. He looked over the city of Paris from a perch he hadn’t been to in almost a century. Paris... that level of distance being covered with teleportation will make catching this guy the hardest case I’ve had yet. He put a hand to his chin and hummed in thought. Worse, he did something to Michiru and Nazuna. They were alive, which means he wants them for something. But what?
A gust of wind blew by and ruffled the fur on his chest, making him sigh. “Hopefully, the flea market has trench coats.” Looking over the city again, he closed his eyes and inhaled.
His eyes shot open as he fought back a snarl. Not even a single beastman!? How!? Not even World War II was like this. Just what did these humans do to cause this?
A thump came from behind him, and he could smell the human before he landed. “Excuse me, but I’m going to have to ask you to get down. Tours are closed for the day.”
“Human. Where are the-” Shirou turned and glared, only to pause at the sight of the leather-clad boy. He looked at the kid with annoyance and noted how he was armed with a baton. He also saw how he was trying to avoid using his left hand. These humans send a child to fight when injured? Just how barbaric has France become since I last visited?
As Shirou’s eyes bore into him, the kid twirled his baton to hold at the ready, narrowing his eyes. “Look, I don’t know what kind of effect you’re under, but I’d rather not see if your bite is worse than your bark.” And he makes puns. “Besides, I need to make sure that Tanuki isn’t giving my partner any trouble.”
A growl escaped Shirou as he looked towards the boy. Eyes narrowed as he stepped closer, the wolf man’s shadow loomed over the boy. “Where are they?”
A spark of fear wafted off of the kid before he jumped back to get some distance. “Hey now, no need to bare your fangs.”
Shirou really was trying to calm down, but knowing that Michiru and Nazuna were being kidnapped right when he had tackled the perp, only to find himself a moment later dealing with some punk, was doing little to help. Shirou could feel the rage, but a flash of Michiru’s face in his memory made him calm down, if only somewhat. Still, he had a more critical matter to figure out. “I won’t ask again. The tanuki you mentioned. Where is she?”
He could tell how well practiced this boy was at hiding emotion behind a smile. “Not sure, but if you think I’m going to let you run around terrorizing Paris, you’ve got another thing coming.” With a lunge, the kid swung his baton right for Shirou’s head. Shirou didn’t even blink as he darted past the boy, got behind him, and caught the baton on the backswing. With a twist, he disarmed him, spun him around, and jabbed the staff into his gut, sending the boy sprawling onto his back.
Looking down at the kid, who was groaning as he pushed himself back up with a look of surprise, Shirou jabbed the baton into the grate beside him and sighed. “I have more important things to worry about than dealing with you. Stay out of my way.”
Shirou leaped off of the platform and landed on the ground with a thump before looking around. “If I remember right, the flea market was in that direction.”
In a few minutes, Shirou had made it a few blocks away and stalked the shadows of the alleyways. It wasn’t too hard to find the flea market, but he now had a new problem.
If he shifted back to human form, he’d be naked.
Seeing a man about his build walking closer, he sighed and waited by the mouth of the alley. The poor sap didn’t even register what had happened as he was dragged into the alleyway, and Shirou knocked him out. The dress jacket itself was somewhat tight, but Shirou put on the clothes anyways before taking enough Euros to reasonably barter himself some clothes, even if they wreaked human scent.
Even now that he was at least mostly clothed, Shirou’s internal thoughts found the whole situation oddly familiar. Reminds me of 1926. That was an eventful year. Never did catch that guy who stopped Mussalini’s assassination.
It didn’t take long for him to barter a new trench coat and some cheap shirts and slacks. He almost ended up having to buy sequin disco pants until he saw the less expensive pair he had on. Never again. And if Barbara still has that picture, I’m deleting it and her phone .
Once dressed in the new clothes, he left the borrowed pair on the unconscious guy that was still in the alley. Stepping out and heading a small way down the road, he flagged down a police officer and told them there was a guy knocked out in the alley, probably mugged. The officer just nodded to him with thanks before taking off to check on him.
Shirou sighed again and headed back to the Eiffel Tower. Once he was at the base, he took a deep breath through his nose.
The smells were still human, but now he had an idea of what scent to track.
The smell of that boy from earlier was still on the higher platform, but it trailed off in two directions. The older smell went over the roofs towards what he remembered as residential areas, while the other bounded off towards a business district.
Following the older trail, he found himself at a school that had police at the front gates, talking to who he assumed was the staff. From what he could glisten around the corner, some students were missing, and something about a demon terrorizing the students.
He took another whiff of the air and smiled faintly as a familiar scent caught his nose.
It was only a moment before he was off again, trailing after a certain Tanuki.

Screaming in frustration, a man in a dark room punched the wall, leaving cracks splintering up the concrete. “Stupid wolf! I was this close to finishing this!”
He took several deep, heaving breaths before he stalked to a computer and pulled up his chair. “Whatever. Sure, that mangy mutt managed to send all of us across Paris, costing me a crucial component, but that’s fine.” A twisted smile started to grow as several screens flickered to life. Two of which had what he wanted to be shown. In one, a young girl in a red jacket was running down the streets of Paris looking for Someone. Another showed a girl in a long skirt that was doing the same.
He paused at the sight of the second one for a moment, grabbing his chin as a third girl came into the picture. “It looks like they’ve made a friend already.” His eyes lit up with excitement as he fought back a laugh.
“Perfect.”
