welcome to the nineteenth fic rec friday! where, on friday, i rec five of my favourite fics.

1. Tidal by noero

Although Keith may not consider himself a theorist, he figures the impulse that fuels his own inertia is the only force that can stop Lance’s aimless velocity. They just fit. Far be it from him to question the laws of nature.

the best way i can hype up this fic is with the note i originally bookmarked it with:

2. Intermezzo by noero [EXPLICIT]

Their relationship had always been backward like that, needing to turn left before they turn right. They go up just so they can come back down and one step forward for every two steps back. They’d been running in circles so long that they skid the turn when they try to stop. Everything is urgent and feverish.

Alternately, the one in which Lance is handsy and Keith just really wants to kiss him.

i like this one bc these bitches are so MESSY. seriously. heaven forbid they use their words. or even their heads! but they love each other. so much. and i love how at one point keith tries to be a shit but ends up gomezing lance to the point where hes like actually swooning...that’s so them

3. Back With A Madness (Champion) by Mytay 

Lance stumbles upon a situation in which he figures that the best solution is to get in the face of a major crime boss, fight in a cage match, and be a hero for a couple of kids who need one desperately. Easy.

Except for the part where he's been forced into a week-long membership at this very hidden, potentially lethal fight club — but he can totally handle this. He refuses to be anything less than the hero these people need — and he can do that while not giving away the secret and messing up the diplomatic talks on this world. If it gets really bad, he can always call in his fellow Paladins for back-up, even if it means admitting he (maybe) screwed up.

But Lance knows he's gonna stick it out, no matter what, and moreover, he's gonna win.

i think most people int he fandom know about this gem at this point, but if not, then im ecstatic to be the one to introduce you! this is like a top three bamf lance fic -- he goes HARD here like he kicks ass! he also gets his ass kicked pretty thoroughly but still! the klance is amazing, the team dynamics are peak, and there’s even a bonus sprinkling of shatt which i have missed like u would not believe lol

4. Miles to Go Before I Sleep by smolintj

Keith, a trucker, has a favorite stop along his route. Although it may seem innocuous, Keith will make any excuse to stop off at Tom's Diner in Langston, a diner indistinguishable from any other except for a certain waiter Keith has taken a fancy to, and it seems the feeling is mutual.

i have been wanted to write a trucker au for AGES -- if there’s one thing about me i’ll romanticise working class jobs fuck all the romcoms that say otherwise lol -- and this fic is a good half of the reason why. its so cute. the fact that keith keeps lance’s picture with him on long rides has me!!!! they’re SWEETHEARTS!!!!

5. Scorch Marks That Burn The Ocean by @milkteamiku

Keith made him feel vulnerable, like a grass sprout pushing up through the ashes left by a forest fire. The words unravelling in him threatened to spill from his lips, racing against the burn of tears in the corners of his eyes. He forced them all back.

“Nothing’s wrong,” he lied. It almost tasted like the truth.

i know this fandom is huge huge huge on langst. and i know there are a shitton of fics that try to write lance as broken. but no fic has ever been successful in portraying that like this fic, i think. this fic actually made my heart hurt for him. i think the difference is that in this fic lance is struggling so bad because of the situation he’s in, and he cannot get out of it. like it feels almost hopeless. of course there is a happy ending, but the whole time i was reading this i was genuinely hurting for him!! like!!

Since you’re back on the Klance train, might I recommend a space cowboy epic “trouble’s making everything alright” series by Mytay on Ao3 if you haven’t read it already? Don’t be scared by the word count. It’s so fast paced you’ll blow through it in no time.
