The Mystery Trio aren't having a very good time, unfortunately. I'm sure it will all come out all right.

This is a sequel to a piece I did way back in 2017, an Over The Garden Wall crossover called "Wandered into the Wrong Woods". When I reblogged it earlier in the month I thought about returning to the idea, and this is what came to me; seemed sufficiently spooky. (I think I should have done a more vertical layout so that the Beast could have loomed a bit more.)

What's the story here? Heck if I know! I've seen crossovers in the past that put Ford in the role of nearly becoming an edelwood tree (for obvious reasons), but the more I thought about it, the more it seemed fitting for Stan to take that role, and for Ford to have to step up and save him (well, with Fiddleford's help, of course).

Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE the idea of Mystery Trio of Ford trying to cockblock his brother and his best friend. But ALSO, how about this: Stan being the third wheel. Idk man, the second he steps in a room where Stanford and Fiddleford are together he's all like: something's gay, I can feel it. And imagine if he caught them making out and he's like: I KNEW YOU TWO ARE FUCKING! Also I don't think Stanley would be a cockblocker because he's happy his brother found someone who can match his nerdiness and not feel repulsed by his six fingers.🫶

THE THREE TIMELINES

3. SECRET THIRD OPTION // RIGHT ON TIME TIMELINE (Mystery trio AU)

Stan gets a vision about Ford getting sucked into the portal (at the time when Fiddleford is like "Ford, this may be a bad idea") and rushes to save him.

Mystery trio yippieee!!

This could go two different ways depending on the path Stan takes when he reunites with his brother to help him.

On the first path, The Truth Route, where he tells the truth behind his arrival at Gravity Falls from the start:

At first, Ford thinks this is sketchy (mostly because of Bill) and doesn't think that "he saw him fall into his doom" is the real reason of why Stanley is here.

Fiddleford thinks this is an obvious omen and is like "See?! I told you we needed to take more security measures!". And also like "Pal, your brother came all the way here from Oklahoma just to help you from something he shouldn't know it exists in the first place. You believe in magic but him having future visions is suddenly too much?"

He's like the voice of reason, basically.

Stan is like a wet cat trying to convince Ford that he's telling the truth and there to help him. (And maybe repair their relationship, but that's a plus.)

• On the second path, The Lie Route, Stan lies to them thinking that they wouldn't understand (and wanting to keep his secret hidden):

Idk how this one would go yet though. Only that things will be very awkward for everyone, Stan will have it rough trying to fix everything on his own and Ford isn't making it easier (neither is Bill), Fiddleford is still the voice of reason (or at least in this situation, the guy still runs a cult), and that Stan won't be able to keep his secret for long.

(Fiddlestan is canon here in both routes.)
