Muse’s Witcher Fic Recs (Part II) - Immortal Jaskier

Guess who’s back, babey!  Trying out a different tag for this fandom and I like it.

Summary: "You have a strong connection to water." "I suppose I do." "Any particular reason for that?" Jaskier is silent for a moment, his hands occupied with plaiting grass blades together. Summary: After the mountain scene, Jaskier spirals into a pit of misery and self-loathing. Jaskier enters a fatal state of depression and no longer tries to stop harm from befalling him, but he just won't die. ||Nobody stays dead!||

Summary: Traders are a gossiping sort. If there was a scandal within the noble houses of Posada, you’d hear about it in Cretegor by the end of the week. So, the quick spread of a rumor about a little village in the Kestrel Mountain range was not at all surprising. What was surprising was the story that the traders wove. They said that Luibhtorrach, a sad, ghost of a farming town, had miraculously become a hub for trade, as if overnight. Their lands unbelievably fertile and brimming with crop. Even stranger, each and every one of Luibhtorrach’s people professed that their good fortune was the work of a mysterious beast they’d claimed as their personal deity. Most recent news foretold of their plans to throw a midsummer festival celebrating this newfound god. In preparation, silken blue banners were erected in every corner of the town, each bearing the symbol of their new patron: A delicate dandelion wrapping around a golden sun. - Or - Jaskier accidentally becomes the god of a village he stumbled upon after Geralt’s post-dragon hunt meltdown. Maybe it had something to do with his new look. 

[In this one, Jaskier gets tricked by Fae and his body undergoes some... changes... while in the Fae realm.  He gets out, don’t worry!  But he’s got some adjusting to do with his weird new form and his powers.]

Summary: Geralt promises himself that this time he won't fall in love with him. This time he will walk away and let him live his life in peace. This time he won’t die because of him. He’s never been good at keeping promises.

[This... this story hurts.  Jaskier keeps getting reincarnated and Geralt keeps falling in love with him, only for Jaskier to die and the Witcher keeps living, nursing a broken heart.  Decades later, he finds him again.  And he can’t seem to stop the bard from joining him on the Path.]

Summary: Jaskier is the god of the underworld, the realm of death and darkness. Then he stumbles upon Geralt, the god of spring, who’s gentle and kind and has flowers woven through his hair. Geralt chases away the chill of winter and spreads the warmth of spring across the land, bringing life and joy in his footsteps, and Jaskier is fascinated. Geralt, his warmth and his flowers and his gentleness, is so different from the death and darkness of Jaskier’s realm. As the god of the underworld, all Jaskier had known about life was the end of it, but Geralt teaches him about the beauty of life, and brings light to the darkness of the underworld. * Jaskier is Hades and Geralt is Persephone. They meet and travel together as Jaskier explores who he can be outside of the role he was given. They make flower crowns and fall in love against Visenna’s wishes, and together, they go to the underworld.

[Yanno, as much as I want to find a fic where it’s the classic Geralt as Hades, Jaskier as Persephone cos that fits their personalities, I really liked this!  It’s a sweet mixture of fluff and angst with a happy ending and I love it so much!]

- I'd suffer hell if you'd tell me (what you'd do to me tonight) by TallQueen on AO3 (9334 words, M)

Summary: When the Witcher finally woke up, he drew several conclusions rather quickly:

1) His wrists and ankles had been shackled while he was unconscious. 2) Those shackles were holding him spread-eagled across a very comfortable goose-down mattress. 3) The runes carved into the manacles left him relatively incapacitated; not even a Witcher could break through such a strong pacification spell. 4) His captors had removed everything but his smallclothes and covered him back up with an incredibly soft blanket. “Hmm.”

or

Geralt is captured by the strangest religious order he's ever encountered and offered up as a "human" sacrifice to their God of Happiness, who happens to look and sound exactly like Jaskier...

[Not gonna lie, this was not something I thought I’d enjoy, but I DID!  Fair warning: Geralt spends the majority of this fic drugged, meaning this is pretty much dub-con... but, uh... *clears throat*  This is smut.]

- And I am Time itself, I slow to let you play by PersonyPepper on AO3 (3548 words, T)

Summary: Geralt wakes with a gasp and a thought. A thought he’d rather not have. Jaskier sleeps across from him, cuddled with his lute, perfectly visible in the dull morning light. Fuck, he’s going to die. One day, Jaskier’s smooth face will grow crows feet and wrinkles, his joints will start aching and Geralt knows he’d slow for his bard, let him ride Roach, carry him up stairs of traverns. Jaskier’s eyes would still be filled with joy, shine with love at every flower and every child, that his fist would clench at every bastard talking ill of his witcher, no matter if his hand shakes too much to even flit over his lute. Jaskier’d stop traveling, move into the coast, and eventually…  Oh fuck no.

Or, Geralt realizes Jaskier’s going to die and sets out on trying to find an immortality potion. Jaskier thinks Geralt’s trying to shut him up. Cue: Miscommunication.

[The characters here are extremely true to the show - Geralt hiding his fears and insecurities behind his stoic self and Jaskier hiding his confusion and hurt behind his songs and upbeat personality.]

Muse’s Star Trek Fic Recs

Just a short list that I’ve had in mind for a little while of recent reads.

These are AOS / Kelvin Timeline fic recs... I’ll branch out into the other series eventually....

- Safe by SidSky on AO3 (293,433 words, T)

Khan has escaped, and kidnapped a member of the Enterprise crew. What Khan wants is clear: the return of what remains of his people, and revenge on Starfleet. What is the Federation willing to do to remain safe?

Parts of this story get pretty dark. Warnings for violence; torture; manipulation; suggestive threats.

[First off, this is very dark!  I thought I knew what I was getting into, but... yeah.  Physical violence, mental abuse - this is TOS Khan dialed up to 13; he is cruel, ruthless, and cunning.

ALSO.  This story has sooo many layers to it!  There is so much going on, it feels like a real universe interacting within itself instead of a clean, civilized storyline.]

- but not as we know it by spikeface on AO3 (19,839 words, E)

Two months after the USS Enterprise crashes and burns, McCoy wakes up on the ISS Enterprise and tries to find his way home. 

[Mirror!Universe!!!  I loved this romp into another dimension!  Kirk x McCoy x Spock]

- Ask Me Again Tomorrow by Darksknight on AO3 (in progress, E)

“There is no one exactly like you. You are completely unique. There are, perhaps, those similar to you. But none who are as you are. It is you whom I wish to marry. Not someone who shares your characteristics.”

[AYYYYYY, Sarek and Amanda!  Oh, this story made me feel like I was wrapped up in a fluffy blanket with a mug of tea!  It is such a sweet story of unfolding love and I LOVE IT SO MUCH.]

- Where Gods Lose Their Way by Dizzydodo on AO3 (123,824 words, E)

In a world where everyone has the name of their soulmate on their wrist, Khan's wrist was empty while he was conquering earth. But after Marcus wakes him up the name 'Leonard' has appeared. 

[I.  Freaking love.  Soulmate AUs.  Khones (Khan x McCoy) has stolen my heart and this was perfect.  I love a good, soft Khan that STID was so close to making him... this made everything so much better!]

- BetazoidBones AU by espressohno on AO3 (3-part series, E)

Living on the Enterprise, being in such close quarters with hundreds of crew members and passengers, Leonard McCoy has no choice but to come to terms with who he really is. And it sucks. He finds comfort in the last person he’d expect.

Or: Bones is half Betazoid and he’s been able to ignore it for most of his life, and then he moves to a starship and can’t ignore it anymore. Spock, for all his idiosyncrasies, seems to know exactly how he feels.

[I NEVER KNEW HOW MUCH I NEEDED THIS.  This series was warm and fluffy with just a touch of angst and I LOVED IT.  Especially the last in the series - that was frickin HILARIOUS.  Spock x McCoy]

Muse’s Witcher Fic Recs (Part I)

Admittedly, I haven’t read many Witcher fics, but these have stood out to me!

- The Wrath of Grapes by Luci_Cunt on AO3 (12,367 words, T)

Summary: “Geralt?” Jaskier called, eyes not moving from the beast that was staring him down not four feet away.  “I’m coming,” Geralt snapped. “How--um, how big do scorpions usually get?” he called. Geralt didn’t answer and Jaskier didn’t dare look away from the roughly dog sized scorpion staring him down and raising its tail up to look terrifyingly threatening. “Just, ah, just asking for a friend, a very large friend who is--charging! GERALT!” For entirely unrelated reasons, Geralt and Jaskier find themselves on the same hike up the same mountain to the same cabin. Things do not go as planned.

Summary: Jaskier is (unknowingly) a dragon and is (forcibly) adopted by Borch, post Rare Species.

Summary: Geralt has very, very faint memories of his earliest times in Kaer Morhen. Of when they were all undeniably human. There were so many of them, dozens and dozens of young boys all crowded in together with each other. They’d sleep in piles, crowding for space, seeking warmth and comfort, innocently, naively unrestrained and shameless. Grabbing at and climbing over each other without thought. And then they started taking the mutagens, fewer and fewer boys woke up and rose from the floor to eat breakfast in the morning, and all of a sudden there was enough room for all of them to have their own room. No more crowding, no more piles. No more touching.

Summary:  Maybe it was love that was stuck there in his throat, if the rambling passion he felt for his friend could be called such a thing. Maybe it was anger, or sadness, or fear. Maybe some horrible mixture of it all. After their confrontation, Jaskier makes his way back down the mountain.

Summary: “Your curse runs deeper. Animal transformation is old, old magic, and on top of that she added the bit about love. We’ll have to lift it the old-fashioned way.” “The old-fashioned way?” Jaskier sputtered. “And what, pray tell, is that?” Geralt still wasn’t looking at him. “We find your true love.”

Summary: Jaskier is weirdly silent. Geralt doesn’t like it. Jaskier gets hurt. Geralt likes that even less.

- Between Roaches by RabidRabbit on AO3 (1,522 words, G)

Summary: Witchers live far, far longer lives than their mounts. So how does one deal with having to find another Roach when the loss of the previous one left a great gaping hole in the heart many people didn't believe Geralt had?

- Coded Echoes by jaskiersvalley (connorssock) on AO3 (1,852 words, M)

Summary: Everyone always rejected Jaskier. It was about time he got first dibs on saying no to someone.

I’m a Little Excited...

I made a collage (through unconventional methods, of course) for a fic I’m working on!

I’m kind of proud of it, even though it’s a little shoddy and not as good as other people’s... but for my first round in the ring, I like it!

Don’t know when I’ll start posting it since my other WIPs are on hiatus cos Muse got distracted by other things...

I’m looking for a fic I read a long time ago and I think it was called The Lament Configuration on fanfiction.net.  It was a crossover between Labyrinth and Hellraiser where Dr. Channard is younger and in charge of a mental health facility.  He is brought a younger Jareth (who was sent to Earth for training? a rite of passage?) and becomes infatuated with - and eventually learns he is a Fae.  (There was a scene when Channard gives Jareth a puzzle to solve on a piece of paper and Jareth folds the paper - solving a two-dimensional puzzle in a three-dimensional manner.)

I remember Jareth taking a liking to a pregnant woman in the facility and he helps her by brushing her hair, tying her clothes so they support her better, and getting her to talk.

Jareth eventually escapes, but the ending is fuzzy.

I cannot find it anywhere and if it truly, truly gone, I am going to be very sad because I liked it and want to read it again.  It was on ff.net, so I don’t know if the author took down their page or what happened, but I’d like to know if anybody else had read it?

The Writing on the Wall has, unfortunately, been deleted.  I don’t know when it was deleted, but I checked it today and it was gone.

So... yeah.  Very sad, as I loved it very much, but the author has final say with what happens with their work.

   [Dang, I feel like this was my first major fic that I read - and I was on fanfiction.net when I found it the first time… it’s super long, but it’s sooo good!  Sif is strong and determined while Loki is clever, and I think that’s why I like this one so much.]

     Summary: None of this was supposed to happen. SHIELD wasn’t supposed to find Thor and Loki on Earth three years after the battle. Loki wasn’t supposed to be a silent shadow of who he once was.    [Another super long one, another one that I have read multiple times - don’t be scared of the pairing or the word count.  Loki is traumatized in this fic and he is mute.  This is his side of what happened in Avengers (2012) and the events after New York.]

     Characters: Charles Xavier, Erik Lehnsherr, Hank McCoy, Logan Howlett, Emma Frost; (Charles/Erik)

     Summary: Years later, Charles would remember that day. Sometimes he would wonder if he could have changed anything; other times he would despair over what he had since become. But he would always hold the image in his mind: Raven, laughing, and his thoughts flying alongside her on strong wings, silver-gold through the winter air. Once upon a time.

   [I want this author to come back and finish this story.  The imagery is gorgeous, the story is compelling and kept me on the edge of my seat, and I love it!  Even though it’s unfinished, it’s still a work of art.  X-Men AU.]

WELP....

I have come to the conclusion that I have not been reblogging things as much as I should because I feel like I have to tag everything into oblivion so it’s easier for me to find on my blog later.

SO... in effort to break this habit, I’m going to start minimally tagging things.  I’m probably going to stop tagging characters all the time, but I think it won’t matter in the long run.  The important thing for me is tagging the fandom and type of post (fanart, fic rec, etc.).

Well, that was an adventure!  It took me almost a year to complete Fate = Apocalypse, but it’s all done now, and completely uploaded!
