Just a section with some great fiction - Pat Conroy on the top and Greg Iles on the bottom. Both are great writers of Southern fiction. Conroy has also written some nonfiction. If you ever competed in any sport you should read My Losing Season. And if you ever struggled with forgiveness in a family relationship you should read The Death of Santini. Have you read any Southern fiction? #patconroy #gregiles #mylosingseason #thedeathofsantini #natchezburning #thebonetree #shelfie #sundayshelfie #bradshelfie #bookstagram #bookshelves #booknerd #bookhoarder #bookworm #sodacityreads #bookish #bookreview #hardcover #novel #bookaddict #bookcover #bookhaul #literarycrimefiction #homelibrary #fiction #crimefiction #southernfiction #thriller #nonfiction #memoir https://www.instagram.com/p/COFsiOSrjuV/?igshid=1y1liwpu6qusr

My Year of the Book - Day 74: The NCAA’s ultimate post-season tournament, March Madness, begins with a bracket of 64 teams. Only one comes out of it as a champion, but that doesn’t mean that the rest are losers. In honor of the first full day of this season’s tournament, I offer up “My Losing Season” (2002), novelist Pat Conroy’s moving account of his final year of playing college basketball. Conroy (“Prince of Tides,” “Beach Music,” “The Great Santini,” etc.) was captain and point guard for The Citadel, the well-known South Carolina military college, in 1966-67, a time when the Vietnam War was in full escalation mode. He and his teammates fought their way through a tough season, learning many hard-earned lessons along the way. Like the author, I’ve enjoyed a lifelong love affair with basketball, and I appreciate how he applied his novelist’s eye and heart to the task, tracking the ups and downs of his senior season all the way through his last-ever time in a team uniform and beyond. They say sports are a good metaphor for everything we experience in life, from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, and I’m sure Conway would agree. There are plenty of books out there written by people who had just “won it all,” but there is also plenty to be learned from those who didn’t. #book #patconroy #bookish #marchmadness #collegebasketball #mylosingseason #bookgeek #bookworm #bookstagram #bookaholic #booklover #mylibrary #firstedition #yearofthebook #reading #fortheloveofbooks #sportsbooks #sports #bookaddict #bookcollection
