On an Undisputed movie marathon and holy shiiiiiit
What I haven't noticed before because I was busy trying to figure out what the fuck is Scott Adkins doing spinning 3 times midair; is the actual character development. They aren't just about magnificently choreographed fights but a journey as well along with a few dialogue that has my eyebrows in the air.
Such as the American fighter Turbo (Mykel Shannon Jenkins) saying “Where I come from, shit ain't for free.” and Boyka -who's Russian- (Scott Adkins) replying “And where I'm from, everything was for free and it worth shit.” and this is the simplest yet most brilliant comparison I've heard in a long time.

The Paper Tigers (2021)
The Paper Tigers is a 2021 martial arts dramedy about three men who were once the pupils of a kung fu (or gung fu, as a character notes in this film is the correct pronunciation) master, now middle-aged adults who reunite after years of no contact when their beloved former teacher dies under mysterious circumstances. I’ve also seen the film billed elsewhere as a comedy, and while it’s certainly a…

The Paper Tigers Puts Comedic Spin on Kung Fu and Forever Friends
Middle-age comes with many things. Tight muscles, wide shaped bodies and minds telling us we are eternally 20 years-old. Do @_ThePaperTigers @wellgousa give in to that ideology? Hell Naw!!! #kungfu #podcast
Growing up Bruce Lee was my dude!  C’mon, who didn’t love Enter The Dragon or watching him do his thing as ‘Kato” on ‘The Green Hornet’ televison series.  Lee, Jackie Chan and the Karate Kid franchise (new and old) brought Kung Fu to westerners and made us fall in love with this beautifully, crafted art!  For a split second I actually thought I wanted to become a martial artist, but when I…

The Paper Tigers is a Winner!
The Paper Tigers is a Winner! @_ThePaperTigers @_tranquocbao #ThePaperTigerMovie @theAlainUy @MasterAmeriKen @RonYuan @wellgousa #ThePaperTigersMovie
The Paper Tigers is a Winner April 26, 2020 (NYC)– The Paper Tigers is a winner!  When I heard that the film’s Writer and Director, Quoc Boa Tran, opted to take The Paper Tigers off the Hollywood studio track and produce this martial arts movie project using the Crowd-Funding route I became very curious.   Before seeing the film I had very low expectations for it.  I presumed that while the story…

Reggie Interviews: The Paper Tigers
Reggie Interviews: The Paper Tigers
I got a chance to speak with the cast of the movie The Paper Tigers: Alain Uy (Helstrom, True Detective), Ron Yuan (Mulan, Marco Polo) and Mykel Shannon Jenkins (The Bold and the Beautiful). The conversation begins with Ron trying to eat a little something and we get a real laugh about his inability to share his food or his unwillingness to do so. The studio describe the film as follows: Three…

The Paper Tigers    [trailer]
Three Kung Fu prodigies have grown into washed-up, middle-aged men, now one kick away from pulling their hamstrings. But when their master is murdered, they must juggle their dead-end jobs, dad duties, and old grudges to avenge his death.
Movie has a nice set-up, with its heart at the right place. But the story is thin and for a long time barely advancing. Overall it's just too long.
The fights are also bit ridiculous. I understand their motivation, but it's still hard to comprehend why the three, old, untrained guys are so eager to repeatedly challenge superior opponents.

Miss Me This Christmas (2017)
This movie was kind of meta for me because I didn't know going in that it was in the same hotel as You Can't Fight Christmas (2017), literally a different story happening at the same time, a movie that I watched a few weeks back. Like three scenes were completely identical.
Anyway. So we have our protagonist Regina Young (Erica Ash). She has been married to Franklin (Redaric Williams) for almost 6 years, and they got married on Christmas. However they are both in the music industry, so one night Franklin doesn't come home til almost 5 a.m. (tbh when Regina was in bed in that scene, there was way too much daylight for it to be that early). She got a text from her ex fiance Chris (Mykel Shannon Jenkins) with a picture of Franklin sitting closely with his ex girlfriend Alex (Christiana Leucas) at the party. Regina confronts him, he gets defensive, and she starts to fester on it. She brings Chris around the studio to make Franklin jealous, and it works, but during the ensuing fight, she realizes she doesn't trust him and wants a divorce.
Fast forward to after the papers have been signed. Regina's divorce will be final on Christmas. She's at home drinking and smashing ornaments with a hammer (atta girl) when her friend Trish (Eva Marcille) shows up and convinces her to come stay at the Chesterton for the holiday. Once at the Chesterton, she meets Thomas (Nathan Davis Jr.) the bellhop, who pops in every once in a while throughout the movie to talk about being poor and how important love is. Then Regina meets her new neighbor, Ulysses (Allen Maldonado). He's a computer tycoon living in the other penthouse, worth millions, and is apparently a nerd (clearly a hot guy in a nerd costume). He fumbles through flirting with her, and any woman in their right mind probably would have ran because a lot of his come-on's were very rapey.
But then Trish invites a bunch of people back to the penthouse for a party and who should show up? Franklin. So Regina uses Ulysses to make him jealous. Franklin grabs the closest thing he can find, Dontrella (Alysia Livingston), a dancer from the club. They fight about divorce stuff. And for the next hour of the movie, Regina is using Ulysses to make Franklin jealous because she thinks Franklin is with Alex (he isn't, Alex just keeps coming on to him). Franklin is buying it, so he's not telling Regina how he really feels. Lather, rinse, repeat. Ulysses fucking PROPOSES even though she's still technically married and they've known each other for like 3 weeks tops, but it's fine. I'm sure tons of people do that. I only had to plug my ears and hum through his entire Shakespeare monologue.
Then there's the big Christmas Eve party. Regina goes with Ulysses, but Alex pulls her up on stage to perform a song. Regina hasn't sang in years apparently (honestly, the song was tough to get through, but I don't think it was her voice that I struggled with), but she dedicates this sad song about being heartbroken on Christmas to Franklin. IF THAT AIN'T SAYING IT ALL. But of course, she's still denying that they could ever get back together. Then she hits up the bar, has some quality drunk girl talk, and gets her shit together. Thank God.
I'm not really into Christmas songs I don't know, and none of these really did it for me. Plus, it was hard for me to root for anybody in this one because they all just refused to communicate. Except Trish. Trish told everybody what was up.
Overall, I give this one 1.5 stars.
